500 episodes — Page 4 of 10
The Measles Have Returned To Wisconsin (Hour 1)
Today, we are excited to welcome former WI Senate Majority Leader Bob Jauch (D - Poplar) back to the program! Last week, we talked about the brazen gerrymandering efforts being undertaken by Republicans in Texas. Democrats have responded by leaving the state to prevent the bill from having a vote. Senator Jauch once employed similar tactics here in Wisconsin during the Scott Walker years, so he has a unique insight on this situation. Over the last several years, we have seen a rise in anti-vaccine sentiment largely due to prominent figures like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. spreading misinformation. The measles are making a comeback, and now, there are several confirmed cases here in Wisconsin. At the bottom of the hour, Janelle Mella of Wisconsin Watch joins us to update us on the situation and what it means for Wisconsinites. This coming Wednesday, the pro-democracy organization LeaderEthics is hosting an educational event on fusion voting in La Crosse. If you’re in the La Crosse area and interested in learning more, head to leaderethics.us. The event is free, but registration is required. Physical Music and Green Bay Family Night (Hour 2)
This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: vinyl or CDs? Music aficionado Phil Nee returns for our second hour to give us his take before we take your calls and texts. Tickets to normal games have skyrocketed in price over the years, so this is a great opportunity to watch the team practice with all the fanfare and fireworks of a real game. Redistricting Has Become Political Warfare (Hour 1)
Todd has returned safely to Madison after yesterday’s excellent show with Joe Thomas at Six Springs Farm. To bring us back into politics, we welcome one of our typical Wednesday guests, Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow. Today, Pat is filing his property taxes, reminding us of the lack of transparency we often see on where this money goes. Todd and Pat talk about efforts to fix this in Green Bay and elsewhere before spending some time on gubernatorial races and gerrymandering around the nation. In Texas, the GOP is attempting to redraw the state’s maps to all but eliminate the possibility of any Democratic representatives. Californian Democrats are considering retaliation by doing the opposite in their state. Not enough news outlets are talking about how dangerous this is for democracy going forward. Today, Todd broadcasts live from Six Springs Farm in Southwest Wisconsin! Six Springs Farm is owned and operated by NFL Hall-of-Famer Joe Thomas, who joins us today to talk about his journey. Born in Brookfield, Joe has always valued a strong work ethic and felt drawn to the outdoors, so farming is a perfect fit. After his time playing for the Badgers and the Cleveland Browns, he began raising cattle for his Hall of Fame Beef. At the bottom of the hour, three-time B1G champion and former NFL fullback Bradie Ewing joins Todd and Joe Thomas on the farm to talk more about the intersections between athletics, family, and the outdoors. Gonna Make You (Corn) Sweat (Hour 2)
As we begin our second hour, Todd shares some inside Packers info from Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens. Tune in to hear the latest updates! This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: biting flies or wasps? We take your calls and texts on these annoying summer pests. Did you know that corn sweats? It really does! Todd breaks down the phenomenon called evapotranspiration, also known as corn sweat. Recently, a Venezuelan little league team qualified for the world series, but under the Trump administration, the team is being denied US visas to compete. This is completely unfair to these young athletes, and has dangerous implications for other sports. Taking Care Of Our Seniors with Sreejita Patra (Hour 1)
BREAKING NEWS: As we began our show today, we learned that rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has passed away at the age of 76. WRCO Station Manager Phil Nee joins us to talk about the tremendous impact that Ozzy has had on music since Black Sabbath’s debut album in 1969. According to reporting by our very own Lisa Hale, at least three Wisconsin Sheriff's Offices have made deals to aid ICE operations in exchange for funding. At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch Statehouse Reporting Intern Sreejita Patra joins us in-studio to discuss her latest article. It delves into a very serious topic: suicide trends in our state. One in five Wisconsin suicide victims are age 65 or older, and yet seniors are the least likely individuals to get mental health assistance. Sreejita examines this trend and what we can do to get these people the help they need. If you or somebody you know is struggling with a mental health crisis, don’t hesitate to call or text 988 for help. You are worth it. Gossip Girl(s), Colbert, and the Milwaukee Brewers (Hour 2)
This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: gossip or gaslighting? We all know gossiping is the act of talking behind people’s backs, but many people use the term “gaslighting” too broadly. It actually refers to a concentrated effort to degrade a person’s connection to reality, making them feel crazy and become dependent on the gaslighter. We take some calls and texts on the dangers of gossip and gaslighting alike. At the bottom of the hour, Todd pivots to several other topics. The great journalist Anna Kleiber has a new article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel detailing $5 million in approved funding to restore and maintain Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous Taliesin house. Todd also covers some of last week’s news on late night TV shows. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be coming to an end next year, adding another layer of complication to CBS’s settlement to appease President Trump. At the end of our show, Civic Media’s amazing Sports Reporter Mike Clemens graciously gives us some time out of his busy day to weigh in on the Milwaukee Brewers’ hot streak. Republicans Don’t Care About Local Control Anymore (Hour 1)
Todd has returned to Madison after an excellent tour around the state last week. Over the weekend, GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Berrien was interviewed by Matt Smith of UPFRONT. During the interview, he was asked if he needs President Trump’s endorsement to win the primary election. Pat Kreitlow joined Todd to ask another GOP candidate the same question at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, and County Executive Josh Schoemann had a very different answer. When Todd was a card-carrying Republican, they were the party of local control. They believed that the best decisions are often made close to home, and Todd is still largely of that mind. While the MAGA Republican party of today still bandies around with terms like “states’ rights,” their actions tell a different story. Trump’s DOJ is making moves to override reasonable gun legislation in several states about which establishments people are allowed to bring guns into. What Makes Racine Great – Kringle and Tip McGuire (Hour 1)
This Tuesday, Todd and Aaron broadcast from Radio Park in Racine! Starting today, he will be traveling across the state with Jane Matenaer and Greg Bach of Matenaer On Air. Stay tuned for more details! Over the weekend, Pat Kreitlow joined Todd at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair. Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann was present to announce his campaign for governor. He made a post on Twitter about his time spent meeting with passersby. However, new WisDems Chair Devin Remiker reposted this video with an image and caption that appear to mock Schoemann’s physical attributes and accuse him of lying about his campaign. This is not a good look for Democrats. Deriding President Trump for his personal attacks is less effective when they engage in similar rhetoric. At the bottom of the hour, we are happy to welcome Representative Tip McGuire, a Democrat who represents Racine. Years ago, he and Todd worked together as staffers for the state assembly. Rep. McGuire also talks about how he ended up involved in politics as he grew up here in Kenosha county before addressing his concerns with our new state budget. Sesame Street, Weight Loss, and Family Feud (Hour 2)
Over the weekend, Elmo’s official Twitter/X account got hacked. Yes, this is the Sesame Street friend we all know and love. Unfortunately, the account posted a slew of antisemitic rants. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: dieting or exercise? We take your calls on which weight loss method sucks more. At the bottom of the hour, Todd celebrates Family Feud! This past Saturday was the 49th anniversary of the show’s pilot. Before Steve Harvey, Richard Dawson was the host, and the formula was much the same as it is today. MAGA Cognitive Dissonance Is At An All-Time High (Hour 1)
Todd’s back in the studio, but not for long! Starting tomorrow, he will be touring the state with Jane and Greg of Matenaer On Air. Stay tuned for more details! MAGA is going through some turbulence as the Trump administration is jumping through hoops to avoid releasing the Epstein files. President Trump initially ran on the promise that he would release these files that allegedly contain records of a pedophilic sex trafficking ring. After claiming that the files don’t exist and then that the Obama family created them, the administration is losing the trust of many MAGA content creators like Matt Walsh. At the bottom of the hour, Todd shares some breaking news. In layman’s terms, the US Supreme Court is saying the Trump administration’s Department of Education staff layoffs do not need to be reversed. After touching on the courts, Todd pivots to rural news that will greatly impact medical care around our state. As we and many others reported beforehand, Trump’s new federal budget is greatly endangering rural hospitals. Many of these facilities and their patients rely on funding from Medicaid, and they were already struggling to make ends meet before these new cuts to their programs. According to NBC, an estimated 17 million people may lose coverage, and over 300 rural hospitals across the country are at risk of closure. You Never Know Who You’ll Meet At The Fair! (Hour 1)
Today, with the help of Pat Kreitlow, Todd continues broadcasting from the Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls! To kick off the show, we introduce one of the fair exhibitors: Sue the chicken, presented by her owner Kaylea! Todd and Pat ask Kaylea all about how she got into raising chickens and what it’s like. You never know who you’re going to run into at the fair! After speaking with Kaylea, we welcome Josh Schoemann, a Republican who recently announced his candidacy for Governor. He has a strong background in the military, ministry, and local government. He is striving to improve bipartisan cooperation to strengthen education and reduce the cost of housing in our state. Learn more about him and his campaign at joshshoemann.com. At the bottom of the hour, we welcome Wisconsin filmmaker B.J. Hollars and his collaborator Steve Dayton back to the program to discuss their latest project! B.J. and Steve are best known for When Rubber Hit The Road, a documentary on the closure of Eau Claire’s Uniroyal tire plant. Right now, they’re working on Kings of Kubb, a film celebrating the greatness of the Nordic sport we talked about yesterday. Head over to firesideproductionsllc.com to learn more about B.J. and Steve’s projects and support their work! Throwing Sticks At Sticks: The US Kubb Championship (Hour 2)
After cleaning up Pat’s spilled lemonade, he and Todd ask us What’s Worse: ALL CAPS or actual yelling? We take some calls and texts on which is more annoying. At the bottom of the hour, Eric Anderson joins us to talk about the U.S. National Kubb Championship taking place in Eau Claire this weekend! Kubb (pronounced koob) is an old Nordic lawn game that involves tossing batons to knock over opposing wooden blocks called “kubbs.” It’s a great way to get your family outside, and it can be played by people of all ages. There’s A Lot to Love In Northern Wisconsin (Hour 1)
Today, Todd broadcasts live with Pat Kreitlow at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls! We herald in the beginning of the show with an excellent performance from the Northwoods Quartet, a new barbershop quartet from the area. At the bottom of the hour, we are thrilled to welcome Rusty Volk back to the program! He’s retiring from his position as Executive Director of the Northern Wisconsin State Fair after this year, so we take some time to celebrate his accomplishments in making Wisconsin great. The Film Industry May Come To Wisconsin! (Hour 2)
As reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin has a new Republican candidate for governor. Bill Berrien is echoing the same talking points as Derrick Van Orden and President Trump, targeting transgender people instead of proposing solutions to real problems. Today, Todd pits two pizza joints against one another as he asks us What’s Worse: Domino’s or Papa John’s? Derrick Van Orden Has His Cake and Eats It Too (Hour 1)
This Wednesday, we catch up on the latest state news with Pat Kreitlow of the conveniently named Mornings with Pat Kreitlow! Congressman (and perennial embarrassment to Wisconsin) Derrick Van Orden has made national headlines once again for being a liar. After voting against the interest of his constituents at a national level, he is attempting to claim credit for parts of the state budget that he has nothing to do with. After the Van Orden update, Todd and Pat discuss the UW System’s deliberation on potentially increasing tuition costs. Todd ends the first hour of today’s show by beginning a discussion on what President Trump’s “no tax on tips” initiative will actually do for Wisconsinites. Defending Against PFAS with Amy Barrilleaux (Hour 2)
At the top of our second hour, Todd shares some breaking news: the Supreme Court has given the Trump administration the go-ahead on mass firings and restructurings of federal departments for the time being. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: being sore or being sick? We’re all sick and tired of being sick and tired! At the bottom of the hour, Clean Wisconsin Communications Director Amy Barrilleaux joins us to talk about the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s latest ruling on Evers vs. Marklein and how it will affect conservation efforts. Amy also hosts Clean Wisconsin’s podcast, The Defender! You can check out her work and more at cleanwisconsin.org. We Cannot Let Fear Triumph (Hour 1)
To begin today’s show, Todd addresses some listener comments. Last week as we approached Independence Day, many of you expressed that celebration felt inappropriate for last weekend in light of the Trump administration’s horrendous acts. While Todd still believes that we should focus on striving for a better America, he doesn’t want to downplay the severity of current events. This may well be one of the darkest moments in American history since the civil war. Ultimately, while policy decisions being made right now are dangerous and deadly, the rhetoric may be even more harmful to our country. The dehumanization of minorities and escalating fear may lead to a day where citizens are too afraid to vote or otherwise make their voices heard. We cannot let MAGA take away our hope. At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch Reporter Tom Kertscher joins us to share his latest fact brief on common claims about President Trump’s new federal budget. People across the political spectrum have lots to say about this new budget, and Tom is here to help us sort out the truth. We round out our first hour with a discussion on one of Wisconsin’s less-loved Toms: Tom Tiffany. His latest social media posts continue to be off-base. Apparently, he has a new one-sided beef with Canada. The Todd Allbaugh Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs live Monday through Friday from 2-4 pm across Wisconsin. BREAKING: Rep. Jacobson Challenges Sen. Marklein (Hour 2)
State Senator Kelda Roys sticks around into our second hour to answer more of your questions on the state budget. Between public education, childcare, and healthcare, this budget is likely a raw deal for Wisconsinites. This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: swiss or cheddar? We take your texts about whether you like your cheese hole-y or sharp. At 11 am, State Representative Jenna Jacobson (D - Oregon) announced that she will be running for State Senator Howard Marklein’s old seat in the 17th Senate District. This afternoon, we are excited to welcome her to the show to discuss her candidacy! State Budget Q+A with State Senator Kelda Roys (Hour 1)
After a brief recap of the holiday weekend’s festivities, Todd turns to a more somber topic: the deadly floods in Texas. As of today’s show, approximately 90 people have been marked either dead or missing. Unfortunately, many of these deaths could have been preventable. Due to the staffing cuts to the National Weather Service by DOGE earlier this year, there were not enough people on duty during this natural disaster to punctually warn the citizens of the area. Back here in Madison, Wisconsin, several homes of the members of the UW System Board of Regents have been vandalized with pro-Palestinian messages. Similarly, several businesses along State Street have been vandalized with messages stating that it’s time for “direct action” against fascists, with the “A” in action replaced by the anarchy symbol. In Todd’s view, the destruction of property and implied violence of this rhetoric is unacceptable. Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of democracy in our country, but crossing the line into violence can turn people away and harm the credibility of an otherwise important movement. At the bottom of the hour, State Senator Kelda Roys returns to the show. She provides her perspective on these acts of vandalism before taking your calls on our new state budget. We Cannot Lose Sight Of The American Ideal (Hour 2)
After some more discussion on our state budget, Todd asks us What’s Worse: firecrackers or sparklers? Todd also takes some of your questions on whether or not we should be celebrating this Independence Day in the wake of the horrific budget bill that passed today. In Todd’s opinion, the great American ideals that our country strives for are still worth celebrating. While we are potentially in one of the darkest moments for American liberty since the civil war, we cannot lose hope. The first Independence Day was all about not having a king, and this one is about the same thing. A Tale Of Two Budgets with Dan Shafer (Hour 1)
Today, two new budgets have officially passed. At about 1:30 this morning, Governor Evers signed our state budget into law with a series of line item vetoes. Similarly, President Trump’s budget reconciliation bill passed shortly before our show began today, with plans to sign it into law tomorrow. Todd begins with a focus on the federal budget and the dire consequences it will have for people all over the country. At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer joins us to cover our new state budget. He stayed up late last night with Chali Pittman and Jimmie Kaska of Civic Media News to keep up with everything going on in the Capitol building, and you can read their recap at civicmedia.us. Beer Tents, Parades, And Cheap Dates (Hour 2)
In today’s second hour, Todd updates us on the ever-embarrassing Congressman Derrick Van Orden’s latest conduct. During budget hearings today, a reporter asked him if President Trump is leading the GOP around “by the nose.” In typical bully fashion, he used foul language and belittled the reporter. Trygve Olson sticks around as Todd asks us What’s Worse: beer tents or parades? While both are amazing, we take your calls and texts on which one doesn’t always live up to Summer celebration standards. Are you a cheap date? If you ask Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) certainly is. McGovern refers to how easily Murkowski rolled over and voted with the MAGA crowd on Trump’s budget reconciliation bill, and he means it as quite the insult. The Birthday Boy Breaks Down The Budget (Hour 1)
This week, we get a double dose of our typical midweek guests, Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project! Firstly, we wish an early happy birthday to Pat, who celebrates 61 tomorrow. After that, we review the emergent details of Wisconsin’s state budget deal as it nears approval. This morning, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down our state’s 1849 abortion ban. We welcome Michelle Velasquez, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s Chief Strategy Officer, to explain how this affects women’s rights to healthcare. Ultimately, while this ruling still leaves some questions open, this is a big victory for personal healthcare rights, especially for women. The Budget Battle Continues (Hour 2)
After some more discussion on the state budget, Todd moves on to President Trump’s massive budget reconciliation bill, which has now passed in the senate. As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, Todd asks us What’s Worse: ketchup or mustard? There’s a lot more nuance to the discussion than you may expect. BREAKING NEWS: State Budget Passes In JFC (Hour 1)
Between state politics, national politics, and sports, the headlines are flying by at a dizzying rate. As we begin to unpack today’s news, Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens calls in to explain exactly what’s going down in the NBA draft. The Milwaukee Bucks have made some unexpected moves in efforts to assemble a younger team around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. After breaking down the sports news, Todd moves on to state budget news. While nothing is set in stone, Governor Evers has announced a potential budget deal that includes compromises on funding childcare and higher education while still prioritizing GOP tax cut initiatives. State Senator Kelda Roys joins us once again to share her thoughts on this deal and how she would like to improve it. You know it’s a crazy news day when our next guest is discombobulated. At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer returns to bring his perspective on the breaking budget news. During our show, the Joint Finance Committee took up a vote on this budget proposal, passing it with a 13-3 vote. State Senator LaTonya Johnson is among the Democrats voting yes, while State Senator Kelda Roys voted no.
