Based on her own 2018 short film of the same name, Emma Seligman's "Shiva Baby" premiered at last year's SXSW Film Festival and then came to this year's TIFF, where it drew a tremendous word of mouth for its hilarious dark humor, escalating tension and terrific ensemble. Cinematographer Dariusz Wolski has worked with great directors such as Gore Verbinski, Tim Burton, Tony and Ridley Scott throughout his career. His first collaboration with Paul Greengrass for "News Of The World" has brought about a tremendous amount of praise. "Saint Maud" may have had a bumpy theatrical roll out due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the reviews have been heavenly for debut filmmaker Rose Glass and the film's lead actress, Morfydd Clark. Many expected the HBO Films documentary, "Welcome To Chechnya," to be shortlisted for this year's Oscars in the Best Documentary Feature category. However, what many didn't expect, is that it would simultaneously be shortlisted for Best Visual Effects. The film has resonated with many since its world premiere at last year's Sundance Film Festival due to its powerful story of activism, defiance and perseverance in the face of a corrupt and brutal regime. "Pinocchio" was one of the ten films to be shortlisted at this year's Academy Awards for Best Makeup & Hairstyling. With a staggered release that has spanned back to 2019, it's not surprising if many haven't heard or seen this film yet. However, the work by Prosthetic Makeup Designer, Mark Coulier, and Makeup Artist, Dalia Colli, is truly a powerhouse and should not be underestimated when looking at this year's crop of contenders. "Nomadland" is easily the most critically acclaimed film of the year. "Minari" has recently been nominated for 10 Critics Choice Awards and 3 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
