"Boys State" premiered earlier this year the Sundance Film Festival where it won U.S. Documentary Competition Grand Jury Prize. An A24 production, it got picked up by Apple and is now streaming exclusively on Apple TV+. The documentary follows a thousand teenage boys attending the Boys/Girls State program in Texas. Their goal is to put their political differences aside and come together to build a representative government from the ground up over the course of a week. We have now come to Richard Linklater's 12-year- long opus "Boyhood" starring Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette, and Ethan Hawke. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014 to universal critical acclaim, the gigantic independent film (shot over the course of 12 years) could not maintain its momentum until Oscar night where it lost Best Picture and Best Director, only winning one award for Patricia Arquette in the Best Supporting Actress category.
