"Greyhound" may have come out earlier this year but it has been able to stand out amongst a crowded Oscar season for having some of the bigger production values seen in any movie this year. Its visual effects work is the kind of large blockbuster filmmaking that audiences are sorely missing in their lives right now and with tomorrow's visual effects shortlist to be announced by the Academy, we have a feeling the work from Apple's WWII submarine movie starring Tom Hanks, will make the cut. Spike Lee's "Da 5 Bloods" was released earlier this summer on Netflix to acclaim from critics and then shortly afterward, it only grew in public consciousness due to the lasting power of the film's story, the summer's Black Lives Matter movement and the tragic death of one of the film's stars, Chadwick Boseman. You probably know cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle for his Oscar winning work with director Danny Boyle on "Slumdog Millionaire," or their other collaborations on "28 Days Later" & "127 Hours." He has also worked with Lars Von Trier, Ron Howard, Angelina Jolie and his latest collaboration has been with Marjane Satrapi, on her biopic of Marie Curie (played by Rosamund Pike) titled "Radioactive." "Black Bear" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival to positive reviews from critics who praised its performances, and wildly meta storyline.
