Optimal Thyroid Lab Tests vs "Normal" (What Your Thyroid Lab Tests Should Look Like)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Do you have the symptoms of hypothyroidism? Have you been told that your thyroid lab tests are normal? If so, this video is for you. The reason for this discrepancy has to do with how doctors look at thyroid lab tests and the results of those tests. Doctors are trained to look at a very broad reference range which includes people who are both healthy and unhealthy. A better way to look at your thyroid lab tests is by narrowing down the reference range to what I call "optimal" levels. You can use these optimal levels to tell if your thyroid is ACTUALLY working correctly. In addition, you'll also find that there are far more thyroid lab tests in my recommended set when compared to the TSH and maybe free T4 that your doctor might order. By looking at all of these thyroid lab tests (TSH, free t3, free t4, total t3, reverse T3, thyroglobulin antibody, and anti TPO antibody) you will get a much better picture of thyroid function. Hashimoto's Supplements That Actually WORK (Part #2)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ This is video number 2 in a 2 part series outlining which supplements actually help Hashimoto's thyroiditis. In this video, I go over some less conventional over the counter supplements which can seriously help patients with Hashimoto's but which are not often used by thyroid patients or doctors (for one reason or another). Learn how these supplements can help improve Hashimoto's by targeting your immune system, improving thyroid function, and by reducing inflammation. If you have not seen video #1 then I would recommend watching that first as it contains important information as to HOW and WHY these supplements should be used. Hashimoto's Supplements that WORK (Part 1)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ This is part one in a two part video outlining exactly how to use Hashimoto's supplements if you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland which results in thyroid gland destruction and low thyroid over time. The good news is that you can TREAT this condition BEFORE it completely and irreversibly damages your thyroid gland with certain therapies. One such therapy is over the counter supplements. Supplements can help hashimoto's either by improving thyroid function, reducing inflammation, or balancing out immune function. This is the list of supplements that ALL patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis should consider using. Recommended thyroid supplements to enhance thyroid function: - For thyroid hormone production and conversion: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... + https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3... - For hair loss: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... - For weight management: https://www.restartmed.com/product/gu... + https://www.restartmed.com/product/fu... - For gut health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/ul... - For energy and adrenal health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... + https://www.restartmed.com/product/po... BRAND New Thyroid Medication - Tirosint Sol (should You Use It?)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Tirosint-sol is one of the newer (perhaps the newest for now) thyroid medication on the market. But just because it's new doesn't necessarily mean that you should use it. With this in mind let's talk about this medication to help determine if it is something that you should be using. First off, what is Tirosint-sol? Tirosint sol is a LIQUID thyroid medication with very FEW ingredients. In fact, it has the fewest inactive ingredients out of all thyroid medications currently available. Tirosint sol should be differentiated from regular tirosint. Tirosint is a very clean medication but it is not as clean as tirosint sol. The regular tirosint comes in a capsule/gel cap formulation whereas tirosint-sol is a solution (or liquid). How does tirosint-sol compare to medications like synthroid or levothyroxine? While both medications contain the same ACTIVE ingredients (thyroxine or T4) they differ in inactive ingredients. Tirosint-sol has a grand total of 3 ingredients (2 of which are inactive) which you can compare to Synthroid/levothyroxine which have a 6+ inactive ingredients. And these ingredients can make a HUGE difference for certain people. These ingredients can actually cause both reactions in of themselves or they can limit absorption of thyroid medication when you take it by mouth. So, should you use Tirosint-sol? Maybe... Here's who should consider using it: - Those with intestinal issues - Those who have hypersensitivity reactions to Synthroid or levothyroxine - Those who are lactose intolerant - People who have persistent symptoms of hypothyroidism despite having normal labs - People who MUST take their medication with food or drink - People who are taking antacids or acid blocking medications for GERD Recommended thyroid supplements to enhance thyroid function: - For thyroid hormone production and conversion: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... + https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3... - For hair loss: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... - For weight management: https://www.restartmed.com/product/gu... + https://www.restartmed.com/product/fu... - For gut health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/ul... - For energy and adrenal health: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... + https://www.restartmed.com/product/po... Top 10 Iodine Rich Foods (Eat these for your thyroid)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Iodine is one of the single most important nutrients for your thyroid. If you do not have enough iodine then your thyroid will NOT be able to produce enough thyroid hormone and you will have problems. And because humans cannot create iodine they must get it through their diet. But which foods should you consume if you want to get iodine? This list contains the top 10 most rich iodine foods. If you are trying to get all of your iodine from your diet then you want to make sure you are consuming several of these foods. Also, just realize that it is difficult to get all of the iodine that you need from diet alone. This is why I am a big proponent of using iodine supplements. Hypothyroidism vs Hashimoto's: What's the Difference?
Have you ever wondered about the difference between hypothyroidism and hashimoto's thyroiditis? It's actually not that complicated but it's a very important thing to understand because EACH condition is treated differently. In addition, what causes hypothyroidism does not necessarily cause Hashimoto's and vice versa. Hashimoto's will almost always result in hypothyroidism but not all cases of hypothyroidism are caused by Hashimoto's (the list is actually more diverse). Low thyroid DIRECTLY causes high cholesterol and it's the first thing your doctor should check for if your cholesterol is out of balance. The problem? Most doctors do not do this correctly. In addition, many thyroid patients are undertreated on thyroid medication which means their cholesterol is high from that issue as well.

Is it your adrenals or your thyroid? (or both?)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ There is a strong connection between your adrenal glands and your thyroid gland. Those people who have low thyroid function, otherwise known as hypothyroidism, tend to ALSO have problems with their adrenal functions or adrenal fatigue. The problem is that there is a big overlap in the symptoms seen in both adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism such that it can be hard to tease out the difference between the two. In this video, you will learn several reasons why and you'll also find out which type of doctor I do recommend to manage your thyroid and more.

Hashimoto's Blood Tests - 9 Tests EVERYONE Needs
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a condition which causes low thyroid function but it is different from run of the mill hypothyroidism. And because it is different, you should not evaluate it in the same way that you would evaluate regular hypothyroidism. If you have Hashimoto's there are certain tests BEYOND those which are used to diagnose thyroid function that you should be aware of and that you should get. Getting these Hashimoto's lab tests and blood tests will help you figure out how well your immune system is working, which nutrient deficiencies may be playing a role in your thyroid function, and also give you an idea as to how advanced your Hashimoto's disease is. Get THESE lab tests if you have Hashimoto's and, in fact, I recommend that all patients with thyroid disease get these labs as well (even if you don't know if you have Hashimoto's). Just like there are habits that can HELP your thyroid there are habits that can HARM your thyroid. I've created this list of habits that EVERYONE with a thyroid problem should avoid. By avoiding these things, or by making changes, you can help improve your thyroid function in a natural way. I've based these habits on the thousands of comments I've read and responded to both on my blog, youtube channel, and emails. Some of these habits you may not even realize you are doing. And, by the way, this information applies to those who have ALL types of thyroid problems including those with hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, those who don't have a thyroid, and even those with HYPERthyroidism. These habits damage the thyroid regardless of your thyroid problems. Enjoy!

5 Signs of End Stage Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
End stage Hashimoto's is defined as complete thyroid gland destruction. This state is IRREVERSIBLE which is why it is such a big deal! But how do you know if you are in this stage of your disease? And what does it mean for you if you are? Once you reach end stage Hashimoto's your thyroid is non functional and it also means that you are 100% reliant upon thyroid medication. This changes how you look at treatment because you don't really need to focus on the immune aspect of Hashimoto's any longer. Here are 5 signs that indicate you are in this position:

5 Things to do for your Thyroid in 2020 (How to take control of your thyroid)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ What type of things should you be focusing on if you have thyroid disease in 2020? Here are the 5 things that I would recommend ALL thyroid patients focus on in the upcoming year. These are the EXACT things that I am having my wife focus on in the new year in order to help keep her thyroid in balance. This information applies to you if you have thyroid disease of ANY type including hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, if you are post RAI, if you've had your thyroid removed, if you have hyperthyroidism and so on. #1. Revise your diet. You should already know what a healthy diet is by now so instead of getting on a diet I want you to focus on personalizing your diet for your body. This means look at the TYPES of foods that you are consuming, how MUCH you are consuming, and the ratio of carbohydrates to fats to protein. #2. Update your supplements. Never use more than 5 supplements (or you will suffer from diminishing returns) at any given time. Also, make sure you have a clear direction and focus with your supplement regimen. #3. Get a fresh set of labs. Start now with a fresh set of labs in 2020 and get a full thyroid lab panel at least EVERY quarter (4x this year). #4. Make sleep a priority. Sleep is your number 1 priority for 2020! As you get more sleep you will notice improved hormone balance, better thyroid function, and improve efficiency in your day to day activities. #5. Focus on mobility and stretching over exercise. I want you to think of mobility as the new "exercise". Focusing on exercising will help improve your lifespan/healthspan, improved blood flow, and lymphatic drainage to your thyroid gland and so on.

Benefits Of Selenium For Thyroid Function
Did you know that selenium is incredibly important for your thyroid? Selenium serves some important functions in your entire body but it also has some very important benefits specific to your thyroid gland. Today, I am going to talk about why you should consider using Selenium if you have thyroid problems and how exactly it benefits your thyroid gland. #1. ENHANCES T4 to T3 conversion. T4 to T3 conversion is probably the single most important benefit that selenium provides to your body because your body only really cares about getting enough T3. Not enough selenium means not enough T3 and that's a problem. #2. REDUCES thyroid antibodies. Thyroid antibodies (such as thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies) cause DAMAGE to the thyroid gland. We have clinical studies that show that taking selenium can reduce these antibodies. #3. DECREASES thyroid inflammation.

Nutrient deficiencies that ALL thyroid patients struggle with
There are certain deficiencies that almost EVERY thyroid patients struggles with. And these nutrient deficiencies negatively impact both the thyroid gland itself AND other areas of your body. Leading to symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, and depression. Why are they so common? Because if you have low thyroid function it sets your body up for other nutrient deficiencies due to its physiology. If you have ANY of these nutrient deficiencies then you need to make sure you take care of them ASAP. #1. Vitamin B12. B12 is probably one of the most common (and most important) deficiencies that thyroid patients face. Why? Because B12 is a wimpy nutrient in the sense that so many things disrupt it from getting into your body. Not only that but it's also hard for the body to utilize if it's not in the right form or if you have an MTHFR defect in your body. These two things make it so that even if you are taking B12 it may not be getting into your body or being used by your body. B12 deficiency also leads to symptoms such as low energy, decreased concentration, and a decreased metabolism which all mimic the symptoms of hypothyroidism. #2. Vitamin D. Vitamin D is also incredibly important for thyroid patients! Not only does vitamin D play a role in regulating thyroid function but low vitamin D increases your risk for developing thyroid cancer and thyroid autoimmune disease. Taking Vitamin D can potentially boost your immune system and actually reduce inflammation and autoimmunity.

Stopping thyroid medication - is it safe or possible?
Is it possible to stop taking thyroid medication once you start? The answer is sometimes but not always. There are some conditions which allow you to potentially stop taking your thyroid medication or to even reduce your dose. But if you do this without the right supervision it can be dangerous. Today, I am going to discuss 3 (or 4) different situations which relate to the idea of stopping your medication. Try to figure out which category you fit into. #1. Those who need thyroid medication. If you fit into this group then you will HAVE to use thyroid medication. People who fall into this group include those who don't have a thyroid (because it's been removed), those who have had their thyroid destroyed (with radioactive iodine), and those with a nonfunctioning thyroid gland. People who have end-stage Hashimoto's fit into this category. Even though their thyroid gland is technically in their body it is no longer functioning. #2. Those who don't need thyroid medication. The next group of people are those who were started on thyroid medication but now no longer need it. And believe me, this group of people is actually quite large! These people were either incorrectly placed on thyroid medication and kept on it for a long time or they are people who needed the medication at some point but no longer do (more on that below). #3. Those who need it temporarily. There are a number of conditions that cause a need for thyroid medication temporarily but this need doesn't stay around forever. Conditions such as weight gain (obesity), high stress, nutrient deficiencies, iodine deficiencies, and early Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Why you aren't feeling better (one BIG reason)
We need to talk about one of the MAIN reasons that thyroid patients (or any patients for that matter) fail to get better. This reason has to do with how you use supplements but it also applies to prescription medications and pretty much ANY therapy available. This topic has come to my mind because I have been hearing more and more about how certain people are using therapies but not feeling better. The more I hear these stories the more I realize that most of you aren't aware of how these therapies actually work. And if you miss this important step then you risk putting yourself on the RIGHT therapy but stopping it for the WRONG reasons. So something that could help you becomes something that you stop and may never look at for future treatment again! And, again, we are talking about this as it applies to supplements because these are available over the counter but this also applies to prescription medications and other natural therapies. Here are 4 things you MUST consider before you decide whether or not a therapy is working for you. If you don't do these things then you have no idea as to whether you were on the right therapy or not. 4 things to know about all of your therapies: #1. Dose. Put simply: if you are not on the right dose then whatever you are taking simply won't work. But here's how things get tricky... The recommended dose for most supplements are a one size fits all which doesn't work for all people. Some people will need more (much more in some cases) or less than that standard dose. So if you use the standard dose and it doesn't work you might be tempted to quit the supplement altogether. But if you would have doubled your dose things might be dramatically different! #2. Duration of therapy. The duration of therapy refers to how long you are using something. If you think that taking a supplement for 2 weeks is enough time for you to fix problems that have been 10 years in the making then you have a rude awakening. You need to be thinking on the time scale of 3-6 MONTHS and not 3-6 weeks for certain supplements and therapies (especially those which target your hormones). #3. Side effects. Another HUGE problem is that many people don't realize that once they are on the RIGHT therapy they may actually feel WORSE (temporarily). This is due to a number of reasons but the biggest has to do with the detox like reaction which occurs especially when you lose weight. #4. Confounding variables. Other variables, including your current weight, how much stress you are under, your genetics, and medications that you are using can all impact your therapies and may render them either ineffective or more effective. Keep this in mind!

Thyroid testing: How to get 100% accurate results (how and when to test your thyroid)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Getting accurate thyroid lab tests is incredibly important for thyroid patients. And what you may not realize is that there are a lot of rules which should be followed if you want to get accurate thyroid lab test results. Why would you care? Well, for starters, if you don't get accurate results then your treatment will be off. Why do you think so many thyroid patients continue to suffer from hypothyroid symptoms despite having normal thyroid lab tests? Part of this problem is simply due to the fact that they are getting inaccurate tests which lead them down the wrong path. What's the solution? To ensure that you are following thyroid lab testing best practices so you can ensure that your lab tests are ACCURATE. Before you get your thyroid labs tested you should ensure that you are following these guidelines: #1. Get the full thyroid lab panel. - The full set of thyroid lab tests includes TSH, free T3, free T4, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, SHBG, and cortisol. These tests should be ordered at least the first time you get your labs tested (but are not always required on each subsequent lab test). #2. Check your labs at 8:00am. - Your thyroid function fluctuates throughout the day and reaches its peak first thing in the morning. You want to test during this time to see how well it is working. #3. Check your thyroid lab tests in the fasted state. - Consuming food can impact your metabolism and therefore your thyroid. You also want to check other lab tests at the same time and they require a fasted state. #4. Check your labs BEFORE taking your thyroid medication. - You want to check your thyroid lab tests around 23-24 hours AFTER you take your thyroid medication. #5. Don't test your thyroid on days 10-20 of your menstrual cycle. These are days in which your progesterone is high which can impact your thyroid lab test results. #6. Avoid taking Biotin PRIOR to your lab tests. - Biotin can interfere with the thyroid lab testing assay and make your lab tests less accurate and make you look more hyperthyroid.

Thyroid Nodule Treatment (Natural & Medical Treatments nodules)
Do you have thyroid nodules? If so, you have probably wondered, at least at some point, how to treat or reduce the size of those nodules. And that's exactly what we are going to be talking about today. Natural treatments for thyroid nodules and just thyroid nodule treatment in general. We will include some natural therapies as well as some medical therapies because they may be necessary for some people. But first, why should you care about thyroid nodules? The main concern is not the nodule itself but what the nodule can turn into. And, of course, I'm talking about thyroid cancer. All thyroid nodules have a small risk of being cancerous or turning into cancer at some point in the future. Because of this, it behooves you as the patient to try and minimize this risk as MUCH as possible. The good news is that MOST thyroid nodules are benign and NOT cancerous (about 95%) but you should still take care to minimize your risk of thyroid cancer. So how do you treat thyroid nodules? Here are 6 steps you would want to consider: #1. TSH management. TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone and it does exactly as it sounds. It stimulates the thyroid gland. This is a HUGE problem for thyroid nodules, though, because you really don't want to stimulate them. If you do, then you are stimulating them to grow (which is obviously bad). So a high TSH level is not ideal if you have thyroid nodules and is something that should be addressed. You can treat thyroid nodules with thyroid medication and other therapies. NDT is particularly effective at reducing the TSH. #2. Iodine management. Both high iodine and low iodine can trigger the growth of thyroid nodules. Because of this, you need to take great care of your iodine intake if you have a thyroid nodule. The recommended dose of iodine daily is somewhere between 100mcg and 12mg per day. Play around with the dose to find out what works for you. #3. Autoimmune management. We also know that autoimmune disease increases inflammation which damages the thyroid gland and increases your risk of thyroid nodules. MOST people with hypothyroidism have this issue which makes it a big concern for anyone with that condition. Treating your inflammation and balancing your immune system is critical. #4. Blood sugar and insulin resistance management.

Thyroid Supplements and Weight Loss (Which to avoid & which to use)
Can you use thyroid supplements to help with weight loss? The answer is probably not as straightforward as you might think. We will talk about WHY this isn't the right way to think about losing weight if you have thyroid problems but first let's focus on weight loss and thyroid supplements. There are really two groups of people who are interested in using thyroid supplements for weight loss. Those who are overweight but don't have thyroid problems and those who are overweight and DO have thyroid problems. The reason that both groups of people want to use thyroid supplements for weight loss is because they know that the thyroid controls and regulates your metabolism. If you can naturally boost your metabolism then obviously weight loss will be easier. When it comes to weight loss, though, (for all types of people) you want to focus on T3. T3 is king when it comes to weight loss because T3 is THE active thyroid hormone and it contros all of the functions that we think about when we think about the thyroid. T3 is in charge of your metabolism, your thyroid function, your energy levels, your heat production, and your heart rate. If you are interested in weight loss then T3 should be your PRIMARY focus (not other thyroid hormones). And what makes this a problem is that MOST thyroid medications contain ONLY T4 in them. And most people are NOT able to turn that T4 into T3 which causes problems and weight loss resistance. This is why it's so important to optimize your T3! If you have thyroid problems and you want to lose weight here are the supplements you should AVOID: - Gimmicky weight loss supplements or those which are heavily marketed. - Raspberry ketones. - Orlistat. - Garcinia cambogia. - Hydroxycut. These supplements are marketed for weight loss but are not really effective for those with thyroid problems. So what should you use instead? You will want to focus on supplements which target the following areas: - T3 levels (you want supplements which INCREASE T3) levels. - Inflammation (you want supplements which REDUCE inflammation to help with weight loss). - Appetite (you want thyroid supplements which help NORMALIZE your appetite and notice I didn't say suppress it). - Protein powder (protein powders can help balance your appetite and help you build muscle mass). - Supplements which promote T4 to T3 conversion (these help INCREASE T3 levels). - Supplements which LOWER leptin and insulin resistance. Focus on THESE supplements and THESE areas if you have thyroid problems and want to lose weight (see my recommendations below or in the comments section).

Np thyroid: Should you use this thyroid medication? (5 things to know)
Today we are going to talk about the thyroid medication known as NP thyroid. What is NP thyroid? NP thyroid is an NDT formulation (meaning it is like other formulations of natural desiccated thyroid) that is becoming more popular nowadays because it is becoming more difficult to get the other brands. Should you use it? How is it different? Does it work? these are the questions we will be going over today. Here are 5 things you should know about NP thyroid before using it: #1. It is an NDT formulation. The first thing that you should know is that NP thyroid is an NDT formulation. This means that it shares some similarities with other formulations of natural desiccated thyroid. These similarities include the fact that all of these medications contain calcitonin, T4, T3, T2, and T1. Even though they all contain these BASIC ingredients they do differ in their inactive ingredients. #2. NP thyroid vs Armour thyroid. You should know that NP thyroid is NOT the same thing as Armour thyroid. Your pharmacist may try to convince you that these are the same medications but they are not. Sometimes Armour is referred to as the brand name and NP as the generic but again that isn't true either. These medications differ in their ingredient profile and thus how they interact in your body. Armour thyroid has 1 extra ingredient compared to NP thyroid which is technically slightly more "clean" compared to Armour thyroid. If you are sensitive to inactive ingredients then you might fare better on NP over armour thyroid. #3. NP thyroid vs levothyroxine and Synthroid. These two classes of medications differ by quite a bit! While levothyroxine and Synthroid only contain T4 thyroid hormone you should know that NP thyroid contains T4, T3, T2, and T1. This means that NP thyroid has a more complete thyroid hormone profile. #4. NP thyroid and weight loss. You should also be aware that NP thyroid will be superior to levothyroxine and Synthroid in terms of its ability to help you lose weight. This is mostly attributed to the fact that NP thyroid contains T3 thyroid hormone. #5. NP thyroid cost.

6 Causes of High Reverse T3 (so you can AVOID them)
Today we are going to be talking about reverse T3 and what causes HIGH levels of this hormone. If you are new to reverse T3 then allow me to explain why you should really start to care about this hormone. Reverse T3 is an ANTI THYROID metabolite that BLOCKS thyroid function. The higher your reverse T3 is the more hypothyroid you will feel (the crappier you will feel). There are certain things which TRIGGER high levels of reverse T3 and these things can be both treated and MANAGED to help you feel better. The problem? You must be AWARE of these issues so that you can avoid them. You can easily test for reverse T3 as well (sometimes referred to as rt3) in the blood and with normal thyroid lab tests. With that in mind, let's talk about 6 common causes of high reverse T3. #1. Dieting and calorie restriction. Calorie restriction and dieting is a HUGE cause of high rt3 levels. As you restrict your calories your metabolism will drop and your rt3 will RISE. In the video I mentioned you can find more information about my weight loss guide which is here: https://www.restartmed.com/hormone-ma... #2. Inflammation. Inflammation from ANY Causes will block and limit your body's ability to convert T4 into the active T3 thyroid hormone. The more inflammation in your body the higher your rt3 will be. #3. Nutrient deficiencies. Nutrient deficiencies, if present, may lead to high reverse T3. The specific ones you should be aware of are Zinc, selenium, Vitamin A, and vitamin E. You can supplement (if you are deficient in these nutrients) to help your body convert T4 into T3. I have a thyroid supplement which helps with this exact issue which you can learn more about here: https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3... #4. Intestinal dysfunction. Your intestinal tract is the site of about 20% of T4 to T3 conversion which is a HUGE amount. If you have ANY gut issues then this 20% will be diminished and may lead to issues. #5. Stress. Stress from ANY cause can cause both high cortisol levels and drop your free T3 levels. #6. Lack of sleep. Lack of sleep is another big one and if you aren't sleeping 8 hours each night then you may be contributing to poor thyroid function. Remember: This video focuses primarily on the conditions and NOT on the treatment. I will do another video on that topic later. But if you find that you have these conditions then you will want to address them as SOON as possible as it may lead to an improvement in your thyroid function.

5 Natural Treatments for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (that don't require a prescription or doctor)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Do you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis? If so, then this video is definitely for you! In this video, I am going to walk you through at least 5 different therapies and natural treatments that you can use to treat Hashimoto's which address BOTH the immune component and the thyroid component of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. If you don't know already, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland which results in a condition called hypothyroidism or sluggish thyroid or low thyroid hormone (all names for the same thing). What people probably don't realize is that because Hashimoto's in an AUTOIMMUNE disease there is both a thyroid component and an autoimmune component that must be addressed during treatment. This is important because this is NOT how most doctors think about this condition. Most doctors will wait until your thyroid is low enough that they can put you straight on thyroid medication instead of addressing the immune part of this. But there are things that YOU can do at home (natural remedies for Hashimoto's) that can actually help. I'm going to go over these natural remedies for Hashimoto's that DON'T require a physician or a prescription to use: #1. Hashimoto's diet. Diet is probably one of the quickest and easiest ways to improve both your thyroid and your immune function. There are many ways to change your diet but I recommend starting out with a gluten-free and dairy-free diet. If you've used this and it doesn't work well then you can transition to the elimination diet. If that doesn't work then you can transition into the autoimmune paleo diet or the AIP diet. This gives you 3 basic diet plans to follow if you have Hashimoto's and they can ALL work. #2. Pine bark extract for Hashimoto's or pycnogenol for Hashimotos. Also known as pycnogenol, this plant extract is incredibly helpful at lowering inflammation and at improving thyroid function. It works by helping to reduce inflammation and may actually help reduce thyroid antibodies. #3. Using Vitamin D3 for Hashimoto's. Up to 2 billion people in the world are Vitamin D3 deficient and Vitamin D3 plays a MAJOR role in regulating your immune system. If you aren't already using vitamin D then you should consider it. Just make sure that you use Vitamin D3 and not Vitamin D2. #4. Using CBD for Hashimoto's. CBD is a new kid on the block and it works by helping balance your immune system. CBD is just as effective as certain prescription medications which means it is quite powerful. It is also available over the counter which makes it a quick and easy addition for Hashimoto's patients. #5. Using DHEA for Hashimoto's. Lastly, you also want to consider using DHEA which is an androgen. Women (and men) with Hashimoto's almost always have low androgens and low testosterone levels which contribute to their autoimmune disease. By taking DHEA (or testosterone) you can actually improve your immune status. Synthroid: 5 Reasons it isn't working for you
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Are you taking the thyroid medication known as Synthroid? By the way, the information we are about to talk about ALSO applies to levothyroxine! If so, then you should be aware that there are a number of reasons why this medication may NOT be working for you in your body. Levothyroxine and Synthroid are some of the most commonly prescribed medications in the United States with levothyroxine making the #1 spot in 2016. This means that there are a TON of people using these medications. The problem with that is that most people using them are not actually getting the benefit of the medication for a number of issues. We are going to talk about 5 REASONS that many people using Synthroid are NOT feeling well (and what you can do about it). #1. Your dose. The first, and probably most common, issue is that most people are simply taking an insufficient or low dose. If your dose is too low then you simply won't feel any better. Thyroid medication is used to SUPPLEMENT low levels of thyroid hormone in your body. You MUST be using the right dose if you want to feel better and you are most likely underdosed if you basing your dosing off of your TSH. #2. Absorption. It doesn't matter if you are taking Synthroid or levothyroxine if it isn't being absorbed into your body! You can take as much medication as you want but it's ineffective unless it makes it through your intestinal lining. Many gut-related issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, the use of acid blockers, and gut inflammation can LIMIT this absorption. If you have any of these issues be sure that you take care of them if you want your medication to be effective. #3. Conversion issues. Next is something called peripheral thyroid conversion. In order for your Synthroid to work, it MUST be converted into the ACTIVE thyroid hormone known as T3. What people don't realize is that up to 20% of the population has problems with this conversion process. #4. The wrong medication. There are some people in which Synthroid and levothyroxine simply will NOT work. This is because they can't convert the medication or they need a medication with fewer fillers or dyes. Either way, you should understand that Synthroid may not be the answer you are looking for and there are MANY other thyroid medications available. #5. You're taking it wrong. Lastly, and this goes back up to the absorption issue, many of you taking this medication may actually be taking it incorrectly. Taking Synthroid with food, or with your morning coffee, or with your morning supplements can ALL reduce absorption and render it ineffective. Leptin Resistance Medications (Prescription medications that help with weight loss)
Interesting in learning more about how to lose weight and keep it off? If so, check out my hormone balancing guide which goes into detail about how to lose weight by balancing leptin, insulin, and thyroid hormones here: https://www.restartmed.com/hormone-ma... Leptin resistance is a condition that makes weight loss almost impossible. People with leptin resistance have a high serum leptin level which can be tested by looking at your bloodwork. Treating leptin resistance can be very difficult and often includes using both diet, supplements, and even prescription medications in certain cases. These prescription medications are often used off-label because many doctors do not know how they work (or that they help with leptin resistance). But even though they aren't prescribed often by standard doctors doesn't mean they don't work to help you lose weight and keep it off by lowering leptin levels. Here are 5 prescription medications which help lower leptin and treat leptin resistance: #1. GLP-1 agonists. These are probably one of the more common and effective medications at treating leptin resistance. They were originally designed to help treat type II diabetes but doctors found that they are very effective at helping people lose weight. #2. Metformin. Metformin is a cheap medication used to treat type II diabetes but some studies have shown that it can help lower leptin levels as well. #3. Naltrexone. Naltrexone is used off-label to help treat autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and studies have shown that it does impact both thyroid hormone levels as well as leptin levels directly. #4. SGLT-2 inhibitors. These medications help prevent the absorption of glucose in the kidneys which helps reverse insulin resistance and can help with weight loss in some people. They also may have a leptin lowering effective through this mechanism. #5. Salmon calcitonin. This comes from salmon but is actually about 40-50x more potent than human calcitonin which helps target amylin and lower leptin. Adrenal fatigue testing: Which test is best? (urinary vs salivary vs serum)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Is adrenal fatigue a real condition? The answer is most assuredly yes. But that's not what we are going to be focusing on today. Instead, we are going to focus on how to TEST for adrenal fatigue including all of the current problems with modern testing. Adrenal fatigue tends to impact your CORTISOL level. Most people believe that the more stress you are under the higher your cortisol levels will become. Eventually, with enough stress, you may "poop" out your adrenal glands and end up with adrenal fatigue. There's only one problem with this idea: It doesn't seem to work as nicely as it sounds in theory. There are a number of people who can have adrenal fatigue with so-called NORMAL cortisol levels. This has lead many people to order such as tests as urinary cortisol and salivary cortisol thinking these are better than serum cortisol. They are somewhat more accurate but all lab tests have their pros and cons. Your options for testing cortisol include: Urinary cortisol - You can get either a 24 hour urinary cortisol or 4 spot urinary cortisols throughout the day. Salivary cortisol - You can get 4 spot salivary cortisols throughout the day. Serum cortisol - Serum cortisol should be taken at 8am to get the best results. Only serum cortisol is "accepted" among conventional doctors such as endocrinologists and PCP's but that doesn't mean the other tests are completely useless. There is some data to suggest that urinary cortisol tests may be more accurate than salivary and serum tests but does it actually matter? We really only care about your cortisol status if it impacts how we manage the condition. But the truth is that MOST therapies for adrenal fatigue don't depend on your cortisol. For instance, do we care if you have low or high cortisol if you should eat healthy anyway? Do we care if you have low or high cortisol if you should be sleeping more? Do we care if you have low or high cortisol if you are using adaptogens? The answer is no because you should be doing those things ANYWAYS. My recommendation is to start with a serum cortisol which is often the cheapest cortisol test and should be covered by insurance. And, regardless of the results, you should start treating yourself for adrenal fatigue if you have adrenal fatigue symptoms. There are some therapies that are specific to high/low cortisol but these are the exceptions rather than the rule. And in these cases, it may be a good idea to get the urinary/salivary cortisol tests run. Naltrexone for weight loss: Does it work?
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Did you know that naltrexone, also referred to as low dose naltrexone, can help with weight loss? It's actually an effective weight loss medication provided that it is used in the right way. LDN or naltrexone or low dose naltrexone (all names for the same medicine) is typically used to treat alcohol dependence. But it was found that it can also be used to treat autoimmune conditions. Then later it was found that LDN also seems to have some weight loss properties. LDN has very few side effects and it works through a different mechanism compared to other medications which makes it a great add-on for many people. AS ALWAYS, make sure that you use LDN with OTHER weight loss therapies such as diet, exercise, and so on. Using it in this way is obviously the best. We are going to discuss 6 ways that LDN (or low dose naltrexone) can help with weight loss: #1. Naltrexone targets insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is one of the primary drivers of weight gain and obesity in MANY people. Up to 50% of people in the US suffer from insulin resistance in some form. LDN helps to drive down insulin levels which can help with weight loss. #2. Naltrexone increases growth hormone. Some studies show that naltrexone can also increase or normalize growth hormone levels. And because growth hormone helps maintain muscle mass and fat mass in balance, it will help manage weight. #3. Naltrexone modulates your appetite. Naltrexone also helps to MODULATE your appetite. Notice I said modulate and not suppress. It actually helps to reduce cravings for foods you shouldn't be eating and it helps you to eat the normal amount of calories you should be each day (instead of overeating). #4. Naltrexone reduces inflammation. Naltrexone ALSO helps to lower inflammation. Inflammation is a driver of fat cell dysfunction and weight gain by itself. So if you reduce inflammation you will help with weight loss indirectly. This reduction in inflammation is also why LDN is often used to treat autoimmune conditions. #5. Naltrexone improves your sleep. Naltrexone has also been shown to regulate sleep cycles and to help improve sleeping patterns. Because a lack of sleep is associated with obesity, anything which improves your sleep may help with weight loss. #6. Naltrexone improves and increases thyroid hormone. Lastly, Naltrexone has been shown to DIRECTLY improve your thyroid. Some studies show that naltrexone increases free T3 and total T3 levels in the body. The more thyroid hormone you have the higher your metabolism will be and the more weight you will lose. Thyroid Multivitamin: Do they actually work? (What to look for in your multi)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Should you take a thyroid multivitamin? The answer is maybe, but it really depends on your situation. Not everyone who has thyroid disease should take a thyroid multivitamin. Why? Because there are better options. It's almost always better to take supplements that directly support your thyroid and these are not the same thing as a thyroid multivitamin. Having said that, there are people who would benefit from using a thyroid multivitamin. These people include: - Those who haven't used a multivitamin (of any kind) in a long time (more than 1-2 years). - Those who have multiple known or suspected nutrient deficiencies (a multivitamin will help replace all of these lost levels). - People who are confused about thyroid supplements! (It's better to do SOMETHING than nothing if you are confused). If you fit into these categories then it's time to figure out which supplement you should be taking. And if you do decide to use a thyroid multivitamin there are certain nutrients that you want to look for which directly help your thyroid. Make sure your multivitamin contains the following: A therapeutic DOSE of these vitamins: - Vitamin D3 (you'll want to use at least 1,000 IU's up to 2,000 IU's per day) - Magnesium (your magnesium dose should be at least 100mg per serving) - Methylated B Vitamins (make sure that your b vitamins are pre-activated or pre-methylated) - Zinc (at least 5+ mg per day) - Selenium (at least 50mcg per serving but no more than 150mcg) - Iodine (look for at least 50mcg on up to 200mcg per day) You'll also want to look for ADDITIONAL ingredients (or bonus ingredients, as I like to call them) which include things like: - Anything which is anti-inflammatory (curcumin, fish oil, etc.) - Anything which improves gut health (probiotics, L-glutamine, etc.) - Adrenal adaptogens (things which improve your cortisol also improve your thyroid) - Botanicals and herbs (these can directly improve your thyroid) You can find my recommended Thyroid multivitamin (thyroid supplement) which contains ALL of these ingredients here: https://www.restartmed.com/product/th... If you don't want to use that one, it's fine, just be sure to find one that meets the criteria listed above. Natural thyroid remedies that work and that you can use at home
Are you looking to naturally treat your thyroid? If so, then you will want to check out these natural thyroid remedies that I recommend for all thyroid patients. The best part about these natural remedies is that they can be used IN ADDITION to thyroid medication that you are taking or they can be used by themselves to help avoid the use of medication (if that is your preference). These thyroid natural remedies have been tested by me and I've used them successfully in MANY patients. Here are 5 natural treatments and regimens that you should consider if you have a thyroid problem (either Hashimoto's thyroiditis or hypothyroidism): #1. Diet (what you eat!) This is one of the biggest things that you can do right away to improve your thyroid. But what should you be eating? I've included a list of thyroid approved diets which you can follow. All of these have several things in common and should help to naturally improve your thyroid: AIP diet, whole 30, elimination diet, gluten-free/dairy-free diet, and keto diet. Just starting with any of these is better than eating the standard american diet. #2. Vitamins/supplements) Most people think they can just jump on any old thyroid support supplement and call it a day. I would challenge that way of thinking and instead focus on problems which exist in your body which also negatively impact your body. You can address things like gut dysfunction, weight loss (by taking certain supplements), and hormone imbalances. By doing this you can indirectly improve your thyroid function. #3. Meditation. Meditation is probably the most underutilized therapy. Meditation helps reduce stress, it helps clam down inflammation, and it helps with anxiety/depression. If stress is killing your thyroid gland then you MUST be meditating. #4. Essential oils. Essential oils can help improve your thyroid via aromatherapy or because of their action on your cells. The essential oils that I recommend for thyroid function include: Peppermint (helps improve exercise capacity) Lavender (helps reduce cortisol) Lemongrass (helps with inflammation) #5. Yoga. Lastly, yoga can be used to help drive down stress but also to act as an exercise (which increases your thyroid directly). Certain poses tend to work better than others, though, so stick with these poses if you choose to do yoga: Plow pose Cobra pose Lemongrass These poses help improve blood flow to your thyroid which allows vitamins and nutrients to get to your gland. If you are taking supplements then you should also be doing yoga to ensure that they make it to your gland! You can read the entire blog post here: https://www.restartmed.com/natural-th... 5 ways to get your THYROID DOCTOR to work with you (and not against you)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Are you struggling to work with your thyroid doctor? Do you know what treatments you SHOULD be receiving but you are having trouble getting your doctor to agree? If so, then this is the video for you. I will be talking about the 5 tips that you can use to help you work with your thyroid doctor and not against you on your thyroid. These strategies will be particularly useful for people who are using a primary care physician or an endocrinologist as these doctors tend to be about 17 years behind the current scientific research. 5 ways to get your thyroid doctor to work WITH you: #1. Speak their language! The first and most important step is to SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE! This doesn't mean speaking their native tongue but using MEDICAL research to get your point across. All of my blog posts have links to research and medical papers that you can print out and take to your doctor to help support your case. See each blog post for more information. #2. Have the right expectations. You should have the right expectations when you go in to see your doctor. It may not be realistic for your doctor to completely change up your medication regimen but you can take baby steps in the right direction. #3. Be polite but firm. Make sure that you are not overly aggressive or confrontational as your doctor will not respond well to this type of behavior. But make sure that you are FIRM in saying what you want to say. #4. Be prepared. You need to be prepared for opposition and SOME push back before you go in! If you don't then you may end up leaving frustrated and not able to say what you wanted to say. PREPARE before you go in. #5. Don't settle (but do try to work with him/her). LASTLY, make sure that you do NOT settle. If your doctor is unwilling to work with you and its been 6+ months then it's time to move onto another doctor. Remember, this is your health and your life. Don't let doctors determine how YOU are going to feel for the next 20 years. Take matters into your own hands. High TSH Symptoms (The complete list + what's a normal level)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Understanding if you have a high TSH is SO important because it will help you understand how well your thyroid is functioning. TSH is produced by your pituitary gland in your brain and it tells your thyroid gland to produce more hormone. A high TSH is associated with LOW thyroid hormone (which can be confusing but it's because of feedback loops in the brain). The higher your TSH gets the more hypothyroid you will become and the more symptoms you will experience. There is a difference between a NORMAL TSH and an OPTIMAL TSH. Your doctor will try to say that a high TSH is defined as anything greater than 4.5 or 5.5. But the optimal TSH level is anything less than 2.0 to 2.5 (depending on which study you look at). My recommendation is to keep your TSH less than 2.0 because MOST people will experience side effects as their TSH rises above 2.0. The symptoms of a high TSH include: Weight gain Hair loss Infertility Fatigue Muscle pain/chronic pain Dry skin Decreased heart rate Decreased body temperature Depression Brain fog Menstrual problems Constipation The higher your TSH gets the MORE symptomatic you will become. So a mildly elevated TSH is only associated with mild weight gain/fatigue but as your TSH gets higher and higher you will continue to gain weight and feel poorly. Thyroidectomy: 5 things every patient without a thyroid should know
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ The supplement I mentioned in this video can be found here (it helps levo/Synthroid work better): https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3... If you have had your thyroid removed with a thyroidectomy then there are 5 VERY important things that YOU should know! Once your thyroid is removed your body is changed forever and if you don't understand what that means for you then you may end up feeling poorly or symptomatic for a long time. This information ALSO applies to those people who have had their thyroid damaged from radioactive iodine ablation (by the way) and also those people who have had only HALF of their thyroid removed through something called a hemithyroidectomy. Here are 5 things to know if your thyroid has been removed: #1. You are now HYPOTHYROID. It doesn't matter WHY your thyroid was removed but once it has been removed you are now effectively and functionally HYPOTHYROID. This means that ALL of the information I talk about (directed at hypothyroidism) also applies to YOU! #2. T4 isn't enough by itself for you. Medical research has shown that T4 (such as Synthroid or levothyroxine) is not enough to NORMALIZE thyroid function in people who have had their thyroid removed. #3. You will probably gain weight and weight loss will be very difficult. On average, people who have had their thyroid removed gain 20 pounds. In addition, weight loss is more difficult afterward. #4. Thyroid supplements CAN and should be used. There is still a place for thyroid supplements (which can be helpful) whether you have a thyroid or not! #5. You will be on medication for LIFE. Once your thyroid is removed you will be on thyroid medication for the rest of your life! The only exception is if you've had half of your thyroid removed (it isn't always necessary in this case). 5 Thyroid Lab Patterns that Doctors miss
If you are SUFFERING from the symptoms of hypothyroidism then you should be aware that there are SEVERAL lab tests that your doctor may not be ordering. In addition, even if they DO get ordered, they may not be looking at them correctly! This video will help you understand the common thyroid lab patterns that MOST doctors miss (unless you have a really good one). Once you figure out the lab pattern that you have you can help identify which treatments would be ideal for your condition. Pull out your lab tests and figure out where YOU fit below. 5 Thyroid lab patterns that Doctors miss: #1. EARLY hypothyroidism. TSH: high (greater than 2.5)* T4: low to normal T3: low to normal rT3: normal Ab: normal #2. Conversion issues. TSH: normal T4: normal or high T3: low* rT3: high* Ab: normal or high #3. Obesity. TSH: low or normal T4: normal T3: low* rT3: high* Ab: normal #4. Low T3 syndrome (euthyroid sick syndrome). TSH: normal T4: normal T3: low* rT3: high* Ab: normal #5. EARLY Hashimoto's. TSH: normal T4: low or normal T3: low or normal rT3: normal Ab: high* As you can see from these patterns, it's VERY important that you get a COMPLETE thyroid labe panel. Getting this lab panel provides you with information to help you determine how your thyroid is functioning. If you are feeling poorly or symptomatic then these patterns may help explain your hypothyroid symptoms. Legend: * means that you should pay the most attention to this thyroid lab test. TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone. T4 stands for free T4. T3 stands for free T3. rT3 stands for reverse T3. Ab stands for thyroid antibodies.

5 Weight loss supplements that actually work (to turn OFF fat storing hormones)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Want to lose weight the natural way with supplements? If so, then you will want to check out these weight loss supplements. These supplements have scientific studies backing them and I have personally used them on many patients with great success. The key to losing weight with supplements is using the right TYPE and DOSE. This means you do NOT want to run to the grocery store to pick up these supplements as they will be low quality and in the wrong doses. Here are my lists of weight loss supplements that work: #1. Fish oil. Fish oil makes the list because it has been shown in studies to help you both BURN fat and BUILD muscle mass. In order to get this beneficial effect, you MUST use at least 2-3 grams per day. You can also use certain types of more potent fish oils which do not require these high doses. Fish oil also helps reduce inflammation. Here is my recommended fish oil brand: https://www.restartmed.com/product/om... #2. Berberine. Berberine is a plant alkaloid that helps target insulin resistance and high blood sugar. Insulin accounts for weight gain in a HUGE percentage of people (up to 50%). You'll want to use 1,000 to 1,500 mg of Berberine per day. Here is my recommended berberine supplement: https://amzn.to/2qDC8Jr #3. Probiotics. Probiotics are an undercover weight loss supplement that helps promote satiety AND help reduce sugar cravings. They also impact how many calories you absorb from your food and have an impact on certain hormones. For weight loss, you will want to use at LEAST 300 billion CFU per serving. Most standard probiotics only have around 15 to 20 billion CFU per serving so you will need a MUCH higher dose. Look for probiotics that contain: L. gasseri, L. rhamnosus, B. lactis, and L. casei as these are the most well studied probiotic weight loss strains. Here is my recommended probiotic supplement for WEIGHT LOSS: https://www.restartmed.com/product/gu... #4. Protein powder. Protein powder is another GREAT way to help you lose weight. The right protein powder can help your body feel less hungry AND it can also promote an increase in muscle mass to help improve your metabolism. I recommend using PLANT based protein powder for weight loss instead of WHEY protein. Plant protein powder is rapidly absorbed and utilized. You can find my recommended PLANT based protein powder here: https://www.restartmed.com/product/fu... #5. Caffeine. Last on the list is CAFFEINE. Caffeine is potentially great but is often abused in high doses. But if you can use a low dose right before a workout or on fasting days then you can get the added benefit of more energy without putting too much strain on your adrenals. The sweet spot is around 40 to 60 mg per DAY (at most). Using more may be counterproductive. Hashimoto's Symptoms list (how & why your symptoms change over time)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ There are 4 main categories of symptoms that patients with Hashimoto's can experience. These symptoms of Hashimoto's change based on a number of factors which are important for you to understand. You should also be aware that Hashimoto's symptoms can CHANGE and FLUCTUATE over time! It's possible for you to be hypothyroid and then hyperthyroid and then back to hypothyroid. This roller-coaster of symptoms can make it difficult for patients to really understand what is happening in their bodies. I have broken up the symptoms of Hashimoto's into 4 main categories: #1. Hypothyroid symptoms. MOST patients with Hashimoto's will experience predominately hypothyroid symptoms throughout the progression of their disease. Hypothyroid symptoms come from DAMAGE to the thyroid gland. The more damage to the thyroid gland more hypothyroid you will feel. Symptoms in this category include an increase in weight, a decrease in energy, an increase in hair loss, a decrease in body temperature, a decrease in heart rate, an increase in depression, and cold interolance. #2. Hyperthyroid symptoms. SOME patients with Hashimoto's may ALSO experience the symptoms of Hashimoto's periodically throughout the progression of their disease. Hyperthyroid symptoms include weight loss, low energy, increased heart rate, decrease body temperature, hair loss, anxiety, tremors, and heat intolerance. Patients with Hashimoto's can go in and out of hyperthyroid and hypothyroid symptoms depending on their body. #3. Euthyroid. Occasionally, but not often, you can feel just fine despite having elevated antibodies. #4. Immune system mediated symptoms. Lastly, patients with Hashimoto's can ALSO experience symptoms associated with immune dysfunction. These symptoms stem from issues with the immune system which then trigger damage to the thyroid gland. Symptoms in this category include: Rash, flu-like symptoms, mild fever, headaches, malaise, constantly getting sick, feeling run down, slight depression, and mild joint pain. These symptoms indicate that your immune system is flaring and may be a sign of a Hashimoto's flare-up. When you have a Hashimoto's flare-up you can experience the symptoms of hypo/hyperthyroidism PLUS the symptoms of immune dysfunction (listed above). TSH levels - Healthy vs Normal vs Optimal levels (on thyroid medication and off)
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ The TSH is probably the single most ordered tests by doctors and it's used to test your thyroid function. There's one big problem with the TSH test, though, and that is that it isn't always accurate! The reason for this video is to help explain some of the issues with the TSH test by looking at normal TSH ranges and values. This will help you understand where you fit on the TSH spectrum. You should be aware that the TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone and this is a test which really helps you understand how well your pituitary gland is functioning. It does NOT necessarily give you information on how well your thyroid gland is functioning (though it can give some info on that topic). When you look at your TSH level you really need to focus on the difference between being "optimal" and "healthy" versus being "normal". The standard range provided by your lab company includes a combination of people and ages which are not necessarily healthy. This can make it difficult for you to compare yourself to them because you don't want to compare yourself as a 30-year-old to an 80-year-old. With that in mind, here are the TSH ranges that I recommend: This is the STANDARD TSH range (not the healthy range): 0.4 to 4.5 uIU/ml You want your TSH to be in this range if you are NOT taking thyroid medication: 0.5 to 1.0 uIU/ml You want your TSH level to be within this range if you are taking thyroid medication: 0.1 to 1.0 uIU/ml These ranges are NOT perfect and if you look at your TSH you should also order the rest of the thyroid panel to get a complete picture. The TSH only provides about 10-20% of that picture so without these other tests you are flying blind. Levothyroxine and Weight gain (Why some people gain weight on levo and Synthroid)
Can levothyroxine cause weight gain? The answer may surprise you and it is a definite yes. By the way, this information all applies to SYNTHROID as well. So whether you are taking Synthroid or levothyroxine, both medications can lead to weight gain. How can a medication which is designed to improve thyroid function ultimately lead to weight gain? The answer has to do with how this medication is metabolized and utilized in your body. Levothyroxine and Synthroid contain the hormone known as T4 or thyroxine. Doctors give this medication to replace a sluggish thyroid hormone and assume that it will do this job without any issue. The problem is that T4 is NOT active and in order to be activated must go through a second step known as thyroid conversion. This conversion process produces another hormone known as T3. But the body also has the option of turning T4 into reverse T3 which COMPLETELY blocks the action of T3. Your body can take the T4 which is found within levothyroxine and synthroid and turn it into reverse t3 which blocks the benefical effects of T3. This is how synthroid and levothyroxine can lead to weight gain. You can actually make your thyroid worse if you use the wrong medication. So, what should you do about it? There are 2 main treatment options: #1. Naturally improve T4 to T3 conversion. Using supplements which contain zinc, selenium, and guggul can help FORCE your body to produce more T3. This product contains the ingredients your body needs to produce more T3: https://www.restartmed.com/product/t3-conversion-booster/ #2. Bypass the conversion step by using different thyroid medications. You can completely bypass the conversion process by using medications such as Armour Thyroid and T3 (Cytomel) to give your body T3 directly. You can test to see if this is a problem for you by looking at the following tests: - Reverse T3 - Free T3 Check these tests to see how well your body is converting T4 into T3! Thyroid Nodules - When to Worry? (Signs your nodule could be something more)
Do you have thyroid nodules? Are you worried that your nodule may be something more than just benign? If so, then this is the video for you. In this video, I will discuss the warnings signs that may indicate that your thyroid nodule is cancerous. The main thing that people worry about when they have a thyroid nodule is whether or not it is cancerous. And there are certain signs that, if present, can tip you off that your nodule may be something to worry about. Don't let this scare you though, because most nodules (about 95%) are completely benign and do NOT contain thyroid cancer. Only a few percentages of all nodules are worrisome for cancer. Take a look at these symptoms and see if your nodule fits any of these: Size - The bigger the nodule the more likely you are to have to worry about it. Here we are looking for a nodule which is SMALLER than 2.0 cm in size. Unexplained weight loss - The unexplained part is important here. You should NOT be losing weight with standard nodules. Unexplained weight loss may be a symptom of cancer. Difficulty swallowing - If your nodule is big enough it may cause pressure on the esophagus and alter how well you can swallow. Voice changes or hoarseness - If your nodule is big enough it may impact your vocal cords and change your voice. This is a problem if it occurs. Neck pain - Nodules that cause neck pain are definitely abnormal. Most nodules do NOT cause neck pain. Enlarged lymph nodes - If you notice enlarged lymph nodes that is a warning sign. Regular nodules should not impact your lymph nodes. Hypothyroid or hyperthyroid symptoms - MOST nodules do not impact your thyroid function even though they are in your thyroid gland. Your age - Nodules are more concerning if you are younger than 20 years old or older than 70 years old. If you are in between then there is much less risk your nodule is cancerous. If you find that you have any of these warning signs then it may be time to get an ultrasound which can give you more information. If the ultrasound comes back abnormal then your next step is to get a fine needle aspiration (or FNA) of the nodule.

Low TSH symptoms (for people on and off thyroid medication)
Does having a low TSH cause any sort of symptoms? The answer is yes but what may surprise you is that the symptoms associated with a low TSH are not universal. They depend on what caused your low TSH and how you are feeling. I've broken up this topic into 2 main categories: Those with a low TSH who are taking thyroid medication and those with a low TSH who are NOT on thyroid medication. Those who are taking thyroid medication with a low TSH tend to present in 2 main ways with 2 sets of symptoms: - Those with a low TSH from thyroid medication who have HYPERthyroid symptoms which include: + Weight loss + Palpitations + Rapid heart rate + Tremors + Anxiety + Hair loss - And those with a low TSH from thyroid medication who have HYPOthyroid symptoms which include: + Weight gain + Cold intolerance + Slow heart rate + low body temperature + chronic pain + Depression + Hair loss There are some similarities between these two sets of symptoms but you can differentiate them with close evaluation. You should be aware that having a low TSH does not automatically mean that you are hyperthyroid! Hyperthyroidism is a cellular state and depends on your symptoms as WELL as your lab tests. So it's possible to have both a low TSH and still be hypothyroid. In addition, it's also possible to have a low TSH and take too much medication. This is why you need both your symptoms and the TSH to figure out what is going on. Those who are not taking thyroid medication are much easier to diagnose. If you fit into this category then your symptoms will either be present (and fit into the hyperthyroid category) or they will be absent (in which case you just need to recheck your TSH in 2 months). These 10 things will help you to understand more about armour thyroid as a thyroid medication and whether or not it is right for you. 10 things you should know about Armour thyroid include: #1. Armour thyroid is not the only formulation of NDT. You should be aware that while armour thyroid is a great thyroid medication it is not the only (or even the best) form of NDT. #2. Armour thyroid is better for weight loss compared to Synthroid and levothyroxine. Studies consistently show that armour thyroid helps with weight loss more than Synthroid/levo. #3. Armour thyroid is the most expensive version of NDT. 1 month supply of Armour thyroid will cost you around $30 while 1 month supply of NP thyroid will run around $7. #4. It contains animal products. All formulations of NDT, including Armour thyroid, contain animal products. #5. It contains both T4 and T3. One of the reasons this medication is so effective is because it contains BOTH T4 and T3. #6. It contains additional ingredients such as calcitonin, T1, and T2. In addition to T4 and T3 Armour also contains other thyroid hormones such as T1 and T2. #7. It is preferred over Synthroid/levothyroxine by thyroid patients. Patients consistently show in medical research that they prefer Armour over Synthroid/levo. #8. It is NOT the generic of NP thyroid. Sometimes a pharmacist will try to switch out Armour for NP thyroid but they are NOT the same thing. #9. Switching from T4 to Armour thyroid can be difficult. If you decide to switch to Armour from Levo/synthroid then you should use a conversion chart to help. #10. Armour thyroid impacts your lab tests different than levothyroxine and Synthroid. Armour tends to impact your TSH, free t3, and free t4 differently from other thyroid medications.

Thyroid hair loss - How to stop hair loss & regrow your hair
Download my free thyroid resources here (including hypothyroid symptoms checklist, the complete list of thyroid lab tests + optimal ranges, foods you should avoid if you have thyroid disease, and more): https://www.restartmed.com/start-here/ Are you suffering from thyroid hair loss? If so then these treatments and therapies may be beneficial. Hair loss in hypothyroidism and other thyroid conditions stems from multiple issues and figuring out which issue is causing your hair loss is incredibly important. How do you know if you have hair loss? Thyroid patients with hair loss often experience hair fall, hair loss, and breakage of their hair. These are the MOST common causes of hair loss in thyroid patients. You may find that one or more of these problems exist in your body: #1. Hair loss from thyroid medication. - Thyroid medication can cause hair loss either DIRECTLY as a side effect or because your medication is either too low or too high. #2. Hair loss from low iron/ferritin. - LOW ferritin is a huge cause of hair loss among thyroid patients. #3. Hair loss from taking too much selenium and biotin. - Biotin and selenium can both help your hair grow but taking too much can cause hair loss. #4. Hair loss from high testosterone/DHEA. - Your thyroid can cause testosterone problems which may contribute to hair loss. #5. Hair loss from low progesterone and high estrogen. - Low estrogen and high estrogen can both lead to hair loss and thyroid function affects both hormones. #6. Hair loss from autoimmunity. - Some of you, especially those with Hashimoto's, may suffer from alopecia which is an autoimmune disease. In this case you need to focus on improving your immune system. #7. Low Zinc/B12. - These nutrients are required for hair growth and many thyroid patients are deficient in them. #8. Genetics. Use this list to find out which problem you have and then FOCUS on that particular issue. This will help you in growing back your hair quickly.

3 Stages of Leptin Resistance (and what they mean for weight loss)
Leptin resistance is probably the single most important factor when you determine how likely you are to lose weight. It's more important than any other hormone as it pertains to your ability to lose weight (and why you gain weight). When your leptin levels become too high your body can become resistant to your own leptin and you are said to be in a state of leptin resistance. This is a HUGE problem for many people. In fact, I believe that everyone who is overweight has some degree of leptin resistance and it's more important than other hormone imbalances such as insulin resistance. Understanding what stage of leptin resistance you have helps to determine how easy it will be for you to lose weight and how long it will take to get to your target goal. You can assess your stage of leptin resistance by checking your serum leptin level. You will want to check your serum leptin level in the FASTED state. Once you have your result you can then determine your stage by looking at the stages below: Stage 1 (mild leptin resistance): serum leptin between 10-19 ng/ml. - At this stage, you should be able to use diet, exercise, and supplements. Stage 2 (moderate leptin resistance): serum leptin between 20-29 ng/ml. - At this stage, you will need to use diet/exercise, leptin supplements, and leptin medications. Stage 3 (severe leptin resistance): serum leptin greater than 30 ng/ml. - At this stage you will need to use ALL of the therapies above and use 2-3 medications for leptin resistance. The following risk factors help to determine how likely you are to become leptin resistance (the more of these you have the more likely you are to have severe leptin resistance): - A history of yo-yo dieting. - Your current weight (the more you weigh the more leptin resistance you will have) - Your age (worse if you are over the age of 50) - Your hormone balance (those in menopause and those with thyroid conditions have higher leptin levels) - Inflammation (the more inflammation in your body the harder it will be to lose weight) - Genetics (some people will just be more susceptible to leptin resistance) - The presence of insulin resistance (if present your leptin will be higher) Leptin supplements include: - glycosaminoglycans - high dose fish oil - high dose L-glutamine Leptin medications include: - Calcitonin - GLP-1 agonists - SGLT2 inhibitors - Naltrexone - Wellbutrin I'm Dr. Westin Childs and I focus on thyroid health, hormone balance, and weight loss.
