Ep 203203: The Seahawks are Underdogs Once Again! Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic Seattle talks wide receivers
We start off the show with some sad news this week after Chuck Knox passed away at the age of 86. Seahawks fans also got some closure on Cliff Avril's injury as he was waived from the team. But the positive news was that he'd be sticking around and joining a local radio station. The Seahawks are back! Back to being the underdogs we've known prior to their Super Bowl victory. Adam and Brandan talk about why that is while going into some of the questions that we have about the 2018 season. Among those questions has to do with the offensive line and a recent Field Gulls article has Adam musing if Mike Solari is the coaching version of Jay Cutler. In other news, after retiring from coaching, Bruce Arians may now be more of a part of our lives as Seahawks fans than he was by coaching in the division. Earl Thomas is still in the news and we expect that he is probably not going to get an extension before the season. But he is going to be a member of the Seahawks this year - so stop it with the Cowboys talk! And speaking of the things that are silly to talk about, Russell Wilson expecting a franchise tag in 2020 is another one of them. But when Pete Carroll is throwing around glowing praise for their new 7th round quarterback, maybe his agent wants to try and cash in on a new contract right now. What can't Alex McGough do? We go over some of the news and quotes from Pete Carroll from rookie minicamp and we bring you some exclusive audio that will have you hyped up for one of this year's draft picks Michael-Shawn Dugan, @MikeDugar on Twitter, joins the show to talk about what he saw at rookie minicamp. Dugar, formerly of the Seattle PI, is now a writer for The Athletic. His latest article discusses the Seahawks receiving corps and we talk about his roster breakdown and talk about if the Seahawks make a mistake by not drafting a receiver. Or should they count on the guys they brought in from recent years? The dishooplafication of the Seahawks Roster continues and this time they make a sensible decision when it comes to having a tight end with the proper number of Ls in his name. We talk about the latest Supreme Court ruling and the expectation that it will lead to more gambling on NFL games. The guys talk about several issues around that before closing out with a Do Better for some crazy shifts in the media narrative toward the Seahawks based on people they visit with and to the Denver airport for inadequate signage. Better at life honors close the show for the Electronic Frontier Foundation and a company that is bringing space age technology to one of Adam's favorite past times. Ep 202202: Grading the Seattle Seahawks 2018 Draft Class
Continuing our draft coverage this week as we eavesdrop in on their phone calls with John Schneider and Pete Carroll for most of the Seahawks draft picks. Of course the player from Montana would be the one call we'd need to censor with a catfish, and the call to Shaquem Griffin to let him know he's joining his brother in Seattle would be about as emotional as one would expect. Adam offers his thoughts on the selections of each of the picks and both of the guys break tradition and actually give a letter grade to the Seahawks for the class as a whole. With the selection of a punter in the fifth round, a lot of people were seeming to make a big deal about how the Seahawks traded up to make that selection, but the guys explain how little that criticism means at that point in the draft. In fact, they talk about how taking a player at that point in the draft may make it easier to point toward a successful 2018 draft a couple years down the road. Some cool show news: We're now on the Amazon Echo devices! You can say, "Alexa, enable Get In the Flock" to subscribe to the show on any of your Alexa enabled devices. Closing out the show with Do Better callouts to the NFL and the owner of the parrot who "delivered" one of Tampa's picks on the third day of the draft as well as a writer who continues to carry forward the idea of Earl Thomas going to Dallas now that the draft is over. Better at life honors go out to a producer of one of the greatest television shows of all time and to Doug Baldwin for a recent award for his work off the field this past year. Shaquem Griffin drafted by Seattle! 2018 Seahawks Draft recap with Rob Staton and Samuel Gold
The 2018 NFL Draft is in the books for the Seahawks and the team made worldwide news by taking Shaquem Griffin, twin brother of Shaquille Griffin, in the fifth round of the draft. Griffin was born with amniotic band syndrome and had his left hand amputated at age four. He becomes the first one-handed player drafted into the NFL. Seattle continued their push to improve the run game by being the second team to take a running back in the draft and selecting Rashaad Penny out of San Diego State. Will Dissly became the first player from the University of Washington drafted by the Seahawks since Jerramy Stevens was taken in the first round back in 2002. The full list of Seattle Seahawks players selected: Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State Rasheem Green, DE, USC Will Dissly, TE, Washington Shaquem Griffin, OLB, Central Florida Tre Flowers, S, Oklahoma State Michael Dickson, P, Texas Jamarco Jones, OT, Ohio St. Jake Martin, EDGE, Temple Alex Mcgough, QB, Florida International Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com offers his thoughts on each of the players and talks about some of the reasoning behind some of the later round selections. Jones was a player that was expected to go sooner in the draft, but may have fallen in the draft due to some of his numbers in the combine. Martin displayed a level of toughness at Temple that would be appealing to the Seahawks. Mcgough was a player who seemed to go under the radar leading up to the draft, but had a statistic that Seattle seemed particularly intrigued by. Samuel Gold of Sam's Film Room on Field Gulls also joined the show to talk about his upcoming breakdown video of Rashaad Penny. While Penny wasn't his second-favorite running back on the board, he did have him as the fourth best in the class. Sam said his criteria for taking a running back in the first round is that he wanted to see a complete all-around player or someone with elite running talent. He says pass blocking is a major area of improvement for Penny. Sam also talks about Rasheem Green and the steps Green will need to take in his game to become a top defensive lineman at the professional level. He points toward one college game in particular where Green showed that playing on the interior of the defensive line might be difficult for him in the pros and why he is projected to play defensive end with the ability to move inside to rush the passer.
Ep 201201: Carroll declares that Earl Thomas is a Seahawk, Rob Staton talks 2018 NFL Draft prospects on offense
Pete Carroll was interviewed last week on 950 KJR and touched on a number of storylines that have come up throughout the offseason. The guys listen in and comment on his thoughts about looking at Josh Allen this offseason, Pete's answer to whether or not Earl Thomas will be a Seahawk in 2018 and if there's anything we should be reading into why he's not at voluntary workouts. One of the news items from this past week was that Michael Bennett admitted to reading books during Pete's meetings. Carroll addressed that along with the reason why there have been some key departures from the team and how part of it has to do with his perception of a player's focus. At 21:48, Rob Staton is back on the show to talk about some of the offensive prospects the Seahawks have visited with. With a shift in philosophy based on the outcome of last year's top pick, Rob thinks that Christian Kirk could be a relatively safe pick for Seattle and a guy who can have an impact at receiver and on special teams. We also revisit the offensive line and some of his favorite players that could help add to the offensive line. Jumping back to the defensive side of the ball, where we focused primarily last week, Brandan asks Rob about a few players who were projected as top 10-15 picks a year ago. What may have caused them to fall back into the second, third and fourth rounds? Which one could be most likely to land with Seattle? A couple weeks back, the guys looked at some of the player's draft profiles to find some questionable strengths and weaknesses. This week, they have what might be the most baffling descriptions of a player on an NFL.com scouting report. Do better at better at life are completely non-football related, despite being just days from one of the biggest events of the NFL offseason. Adam goes off on an investment company that's more concerned about profit than curing people's health issues and Brandan calls out a billionaire who wants everyone to help him buy a bankrupt toy store. Better at life nods go out to a man who has set up a treasure hunt in the mountains and to a legendary actor who passed away recently. The 2018 Seahawks schedule and how Seattle got one of the third worst lineups in the NFL
bonusAfter taking a couple days to take in the Seahawks schedule and compare it to other schedules throughout the league, Dave Bloomquist joins Brandan on the show to talk about his breakdown and why the Seahawks have received one of the three most difficult schedules in the NFL. At first glance, the back end of the schedule set up nicely for Seattle, but when you consider the minor advantages given to opponents early on it may not make a difference by the end of the year. One advantage the Seahawks did get over past seasons is the weather. Traditionally the trip to Carolina happens early in the season but is much later this year. Dave runs through his list of teams who have the top 3 most beneficial schedules. Not surprising to him was that the Patriots were one of those teams. But one of the Seahawks rivals also landed in his top 3 most favorable schedules, but it wasn't the team one might expect. Ep 200200: Seahawks big catch in free agency, a look at defensive draft visits with Rob Staton, trending toward less hoopla
We kick off our 200th show with a big announcement. Seattle had landed what might just be the biggest catch in free agency. John Schneider has gone fishing and he landed a Seabass. It only took 200 shows for Adam to feel like the Seahawks might be tuning in to hear his thoughts on some of the most needed additions to the team. Seattle is set to make a bunch of new additions to the team in a couple of weeks with the 2018 NFL Draft right around the corner. Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com joins the show to talk about some of the college players who have visited with the Seahawks. Rob gives his thoughts on what he thinks it would take for the Seahawks to stay put with the 18th pick and forego drafting on the second day of the draft. He also discusses his philosophy around some of the players who might not have draftable grades, but are among the names Seattle is bringing in for a private visit. That may have an impact on where these players decide to go if they are among the many undrafted free agents at the conclusion of the draft. After the discussion with Rob, Brandan and Adam get into a couple of the biggest news items from this past week as Seattle reportedly cancels a visit with Colin Kaepernick who had been scheduled to come in for a workout. Is this a signal that the Seahawks are trending toward a team that wants less "hoopla" surrounding it? Dez Bryant was just cut by the Cowboys, so expect the talk about Earl Thomas to ramp up, because it has already started. Do better nods go to a meth smoking child care provider in Adam's hometown and to a fortune teller who is predicting an upcoming Super Bowl for a division rival. Better at life nominees go out to NASA scientists for an experiment that could determine the future of the human race and a co-host who many of us hope never changes.
Ep 199199: How routine scouting leads to rampant speculation at QB, and a look at eight potential Seahawks draft picks
During last week's show we discussed the logical reasoning why John Schneider might be watching Wyoming QB Josh Allen throw at his pro day. Not long after, a comment about a Russell Wilson rep talking to Schneider suddenly turned into rampant speculation of Wilson's future departure from the team. The guys go back to the comment that kicked it off to discuss what could have happened to generate this wave of terrifying stories. The guys run down some of the skill position players that the Seahawks have reportedly met with over the past few months. Quarterback Chris Streveler heads up the list and has a beard worth checking out. Of the three running backs, Ito Smith may have the best story behind how he was named, and one of the three receivers has "stick and stay" hands. They've even talked to a fullback that could help solve some of the short yardage woes we've seen from the team in past seasons. Adam's audio while on the road cuts out right before the end of the first half of the show and so we flip over to the backup audio for the second half. We talk about a reporter who wants all of the embarrassing scores posted from the combine and people who are irresponsible when it comes to eating spicy food. Better at life honors go to a former linebacker who went into an unorthodox post-career profession and a former Buccaneers center who is living the minimalist life while touring the country with a dog named after a George Michael song. Ep 198198: It's a reset! Not a rebuild, reboot or reload. The 2018 season - we'll see
Seahawks General Manager John Schneider was interviewed this past week and we now have the official term for how to characterize this offseason. We were too drastic by referring to it as a Hawkpocalypse? Maybe so, although John's son Jack shares many of the same questions we fans have. With almost half of the most highly paid Seahawks players under contract for just one season left, what kind of reset could we see next season? In the history of the team, the Seahawks have never lost more than two Pro Bowl caliber players in an offseason. But this team there will be at least three who won't return. But there were some moments in Seahawks history where the sheer number of turnover within the starting lineup was more than half from the previous season. One of those times was when Coach Carroll first arrived, another was when the team was just getting going in the late 70s. Earl Thomas wants to be a Seahawk for life and types out a note to share online about what Seattle has meant to him. Trevonne Boykin is no longer a member of the Seahawks after some gruesome allegations, and Michael Bennett also found himself in the spotlight of law enforcement this past week after an incident during Super Bowl 51. Adam shares a story in the do better segment this week that might turn your stomach and Brandan goes after an NFL head coach who sounds like he wants to bring back the 'No Fun League.' Better at life nods this week go to orange snow in Russia and a 36-year-old accountant who played professional hockey for the first time. Leading up to the draft, the guys will be taking a look at several players the Seahawks have reportedly met with in the past couple months. Send in your thoughts to the show on any of the following players and we'll share them on the show: Tony Brown, CB, Alabama Will Dissly, TE, Washington Poona Ford, DT, Texas Shaquem Griffin, OLB, Central Florida Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State Khalid Hill, FB, Michigan Natrell Jamerson, S, Wisconsin Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M Keith Kirkwood, WR, Temple Kolton Miller, OT, UCLA Nick Nelson, CB, Wisconsin Foyesade Oluokun, OLB, Yale Dante Pettis, WR, Washington Justin Reid, S, Stanford Chris Seisay, CB, Portland State Chris Streveler, QB, South Dakota State Josh Sweat, DE, Florida State Akrum Wadley, RB, Iowa
Ep 197197: No, Seahawks fans, the sky isn't falling: Kenneth Arthur of Field Gulls provides a rational perspective
The Seahawks have signed what many hope to be their most impactful free agent signing yet by bringing in D.J. Fluker. Fluker is another top draft pick from the 2013 season, and Kenneth Arthur, managing editor of Field Gulls, joins us to talk about the move along with some of his observations from the offseason to this point. One of the things Kenneth likes best about the Fluker signing - it's better than paying top dollar for the other guards who hit the market. But the best possible outcome might be finding a guard via the draft who can ultimately take over at that position. Despite all of the change this offseason, Kenneth says the direction of the team seems to be an approach toward sticking to the philosophy that got the team to a Super Bowl. Cutting Richard Sherman even allows them to keep last year's roster together as much as possible by allowing them to keep Dion Jordan, Justin Coleman, Bradley McDougald and potentially Byron Maxwell. The Seahawks were at their best when they had rookies playing at a high level with contracts that were far below the value they offered. They were able to find players in that "middle class" who were able to compete and produce in ways that led them to extensions with the team. In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better to move on from those players. We discuss the projections of the Seahawks possibly only winning six games, and Kenneth points out how a top quarterback like Phillip Rivers has been able to produce winning seasons without a lot of help around him. Even if a couple big names leave, Russell Wilson should be able to lead the Seahawks to a winning record. Clinton Bonner joins the show to talk about some of the moves from the offseason including Luke Willson's departure. He talks about what he's going to miss most from the Wilson to Willson connection. He also has a new public access show he's starting called TNT Dynamite Thursdays that launches on Thursday. The show closes with calls to do better for Cowboys fans who feel entitled to Earl Thomas and to Mike Freeman for a nonsensical take on how things will go for Russell Wilson this coming year. Better at life honors go to UMBC and their Twitter account manager and to a caretaker of an island off the coast of Italy. Ep 196196: Richard Sherman is still better at life than Skip Bayless
We didn't think it would happen last offseason, and we still didn't expect it to happen this offseason, but Richard Sherman is no longer a member of the Seahawks now. What's worse is that he's actually a member of the San Francisco 49ers. A team that he seemed to have an strong sports hate for himself while Jim Harbaugh was coaching there. Adam and Brandan talk about how difficult it is to see him go there, but also with an understanding of why it made it an easy choice for him based on the circumstances. A big cast of characters is heading out the door as we enter free agency and we give a Hunger Games style sendoff to Sherman, Deshawn Shead, Jeremy Lane, Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson and Sheldon Richardson. As all those players head out the door there's just a few coming back through it to start free agency. The guys talk about why that is and what it could mean for the upcoming season at this point. Because this was a tough week for so many of us, we read a few thoughts from listeners of the show and take some questions that came in via email. It really looks as though we've come to the end of an era of a historically great Seahawks defense and it opens up the doors for Pete Carroll and John Schneider to make a run at putting together another team that may be structured in a different way. Closing out the show, Adam has words for the state of Delaware, while Brandan takes offense to athletes who are taking issue with the thoughts from fans when it comes to fan expectations this time of year. Adam memorializes one of the great theoretical physicists and Brandan explains that even as a member of the 49ers, Richard Sherman is still better at life than Skip Bayless. Ep 195195: The Hawkpocalypse of 2018 with Danny Kelly: Michael Bennett traded, Richard Sherman could be next
Apparently the Hawkpocalypse is here and it has started with Michael Bennett being traded to the Eagles. Before that trade was announced, reports came out that Richard Sherman was saying goodbye to teammates and reports are suggesting that his release from the team is imminent. But after listening to reports that he was going to be traded last year, is this actually going to happen? Danny Kelly of the Ringer, former editor in chief at Field Gulls, joins the show and believes that this offseason will be the end of an era in Seattle and that it's time to "reboot" the defense with a younger group of players. After the Bennett trade, playing younger players is one of the main points that seems to resonate now from John Schneider's press conference at the combine. Danny was there and talks about some of the rumors he heard there and also about Shaquem Griffin and his combine performance. If the Seahawks do free up some cap space going into free agency, we talk about where to spend the money. Danny talks about the offensive line, a couple of top free agents the Seahawks could have their eye on and how change their scheme can help lead to success in the run game. Adam and Brandan continue the conversation about Richard Sherman and reasons why the team may see a need to move on and talk about two big reasons why she should stay. They also discuss some of the movement in the NFC West and how the Rams defense is going to face some similar struggles in the coming years. Brandan sides with Danny's boss at the Ringer for his "Do better" callout this week, while Adam directs his "Do better" back at Bill Simmons. Then the show closes with Better at Life honors for a Panthers running back and to Michael Bennett for his Instagram post thanking the Seahawks organization and fans. Ep 194194: NFL Combine recap with Rob Staton and analyzing potential Seattle Seahawks draft candidates
To talk NFL combine action over the weekend, Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com joins the show to talk about his takeaways from the event. Before getting to the prospects, they discuss Pete Carroll and John Schneider's press conference as well as the recent reports of the Seahawks interest to find a trade partner for Michael Bennett. We kick off our discussion about the combine by talking about running backs and offensive line, considering the weakness of the Seahawks last year and running the football. The guys look as possible picks in the earlier rounds as well as potential players on day 3 of the draft. Rob considers running backs and interior offensive lineman a strength of this draft and Adam is happy there might be some top guards who played guard in college. John Schneider was asked about Lamar Jackson during his press conference and Brandan and Adam speculate on why his response was somewhat intriguing and Rob offers his perspective on the range of the draft board Jackson should land. They also get into Shaquem Griffin's combine performance, and while there's a lot to be excited about there's also a key detail that shows up on tape that would be a negative for the Seahawks. There are some underwhelming areas of talent in the draft as well. The defensive linemen didn't perform well for the most part and the wide receiver position appears to be lacking talented players who could start right away. The Seahawks also had one of the strangest stories coming out of the combine by challenging a punter to a staring competition. Is this what Coach Carroll means when he says, "always compete"? The guys close the show with stories of an airline not honoring the achievement of some Olympic competitors and a scientist who is not a fan of sending potentially contaminated material to another planet. Better at life nods go out to a listener who made a cross-continent move recently and to a big time country singer for an incredible milestone. Follow @robstaton on Twitter and visit seahawksdraftblog.com for more detailed analysis of the combine. Ep 193193: Seahawks team needs via free agency, Russell Wilson trade talks, is P-Rich worth signing long-term
With the new league year and free agency just a couple weeks away, this week's show focuses on how the Seahawks should approach free agency. Is it best to fill needs through free agency or trust your scouting and address the biggest needs through the draft? The guys look at the various position groups for the ones that seem to be the most critical to address this offseason. When looking at the offensive line, it seems as though there's still a spot on this team for George Fant even with Tom Cable now in Oakland, but Adam doesn't want to admit it. There was a recent article by a Seattle reporter and national analyst toying with the idea that the Seahawks should consider trading Russell Wilson. With that in mind, the guys mock up a phone call between the general managers of the Browns and Seahawks. (31:57) How the Seahawks approach free agency will also be dependent on how they view their chances at getting compensatory picks in the 2019 draft. Brandan talks about which Seahawks free agents could net Seattle some compensatory picks next year if they move on in free agency. Corbin Smith, co-host of the Legion of 12 Radio podcast and contributor to The Seahawks Wire, joins the show this week to talk about the trade of Marcus Peters to the division rival L.A. Rams. With Trumaine Johnson looking like he'll be moving on, how much better are the Rams going to be with Peters? Paul Richardson and Jimmy Graham are two big names on offense who could both be on other teams in 2018. Corbin talks about some of the things Seattle would be missing if Richardson leaves, and he talks about the salary the Seahawks would want to consider to keep him on the team. If Graham leaves, he has thoughts on who might be worth an incentive-based contract to lure to Seattle. Follow Corbin on Twitter @CorbinSmithNFL. (41:50) Closing out the show, our Flock sends in some emails with some thoughts on offseason show ideas. In the do better segment, Adam talks about one airline that made an emergency landing because of a gassy passenger and Brandan talks about the conclusion of his appliance experience. Another SpaceX launch earns Adam's better at life nod, while the USA Women's hockey team and their gold medal victory has Brandan feeling as though some revenge was earned against Canada. Ep 192192: The end of the LOB, franchise tag candidates, analyzing the Schottenheimer offense
The Seahawks will have the opportunity to use their franchise tag as early as this week. Who are some of the players who the team might target? The guys look at some recent metrics on the pass rush as well as the running game. They also discuss the interest among media to try and break up the Legion of Boom as the story lines around Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman are now clear going through the offseason. Samuel Gold breaks down the Brian Schottenheimer offense after taking a look at game tape from when he was the offensive coordinator for the 2014 St. Louis Rams. Gold talks about the things he disliked from the offensive line in terms of the zone blocking scheme and ways that could improve this coming season. Sam talks about Jimmy Graham and the marginal difference in cost between what Graham could command versus bringing in another player to fill his shoes. The guys run through the top names among free agents on the offensive line, which doesn't take long. Sam also gets into some of his favorite running backs in the 2018 draft and a name that could interest the Seahawks with their first pick. After the interview, Adam explains why the Seahawks need to go fishing and how the Seahawks could fix one of the biggest problems for team in 2017. A trip to Prisco's World discusses one of the most ridiculous exercises analysists can go through in February. Closing out the show, the guys take to task a YouTube commenter for his flat earth advocacy and Trout Unlimited for promoting fake outrage after a Super Bowl commercial. Better at life nods go to a girl scout for camping out at one of the top cookie selling locations of all time and to a pair of Seattle residents for leading an effort to fight hunger in Western Washington. Ep 191191: Early Seahawks draft candidates, grading the 2017 NFC West draft classes, Wilson traded to the Yankees
The biggest news of the week seems to be the Russell Wilson trade from the Rangers to the New York Yankees. With media speculation about how this could impact the Seahawks, Adam and Brandan talk about how this will in no way have an impact and the reasons why. With the NFL Combine approaching, Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com joins us for the first time this offseason and covers a lot of ground with some of his top picks from the Senior Bowl to join the Seahawks. He talks about what it would likely take in terms of personnel moves to get the John Schneider to stick with the 18th pick overall. Considering the amount of talent among running backs this year, Rob advocates for taking a guy in the first two rounds to get a player with top tier talent. To help Seahawks fans enjoy the Combine, Rob explains some of the things to look for while watching the event to try and identify players the Seahawks might be interested in. He explains the measurements among running backs to key in on, watching the mirror drills with the offensive linemen, and the importance Seattle places on the short shuttle for linebackers. A recent article talks about the Seahawks 2017 draft and gives Seattle a C grade. The guys talk about what the criteria should be for grading a draft at this point. Seattle clearly deserves higher, but one other team in the NFC West clearly did better than the others. Prize winners for the pick'em league are announced along with their prizes. Both Adam and Brandan find out that customer service representatives from two different companies are putting off work to their customers that the companies should be doing themselves. We get into some emails before do better shots go to a rodent killer boarding a plane and the Colts general manager. Better at life nods go to the scientists behind "super wood" and to a Washington product for his level of preparation leading up to the Super Bowl. Ep 190190: Red Zone outlook for 2018, three free agency moves to sign the best available lineman, regrets with Pinterest
We look back and look ahead in this week's show. First we start by congratulating the Philadelphia Eagles on their Super Bowl title over the Patriots. Adam believes he may be living in some alternate reality. We then look back at some of the worst free agent moves in Seattle's history, especially considering how the 2017 free agency period went. Looking ahead, we talk about the red zone production for the Seahawks and how that could potentially change in 2018 with the departure of Jimmy Graham. Evan Hill from Hawkblogger.com joins the show this week to talk about the likelihood that Seattle's primary defensive players should be with the team next season. Considering Sheldon Richardson could command top dollar, there are also some significant risks and we talk about why compensatory picks could play a role. With his latest article, Evan talks about why it's important to have rookies who can fill the role of the "middle class" players teams pick up or re-sign in free agency. We talk about three moves that the Seahawks could make to sign the best available guard in free agency and how some of the details of Justin Britt's contract leads Evan to believe that trading him could make sense as part of an offensive line shakeup. Finally, he breaks down the three goals the Seahawks should focus on this offseason. In the second half of the show, we celebrate an upcoming milestone by laying out a big bet that could impact the future of the podcast. Do better goes to Pinterest and Kodak, while an organization gets credit for making things better for fans on game day and Richard Sherman saves his grandmother from a potential financial disaster. Ep 189189: Seahawks could replicate 2017 Vikings success, why establishing the run is a myth, and Mad Mike is ready to launch
As the Seahawks launch into the offseason with a clear goal of running the football better, this week we look at a team who made some dramatic shifts on offense a year ago and ended up playing for a chance at the Super Bowl this year. Adam and Brandan explore if Seattle has the same ability to make the kind of changes that can help make it so just about any running back can have success. They even explore a couple free agent prospects depending on the type of direction the team may want to go. Now that Tom Cable is in Oakland, are there any Seahawks players he might want to bring with him? Germaine Ifedi and Justin Britt would be two clear candidates and there is a relationship between the two teams to make things happen. Mock draft season is kicking off and two of the more prominent names in the media have seemed to agree on the narrative we'll be hearing from the national media on how the Seahawks should approach the draft. To talk about the Seahawks run game and a common myth held in the NFL, Sean Clement joins the show to talk about one of his latest articles on Field Gulls. Sean did a statistical analysis on running plays in the NFL to dispel the idea that teams can "establish the run" in the way that short gains early on end up turning into bigger gains later in the game. It doesn't mean teams shouldn't run the ball, but it does mean that you should be good at running the ball to have an impact at any point during the game. In the second half of the show, the guys talk about more coaching changes announced this past week. The pick'em league wraps up this coming week, but while it looks like the top spot is already locked up there is still a big prize on the table for second place. Tune in to find out who needs to 'do better' this week and why a Giants receiver and the brother of a Seahawks player are 'better at life.' Ep 188188: More coaching changes, how Cable's departure impacts the offensive line, and the worst part of mock draft season
A major shakeup in terms of the number of coaches turned over in the past week for the Seahawks, but we explore whether it really is a major overhaul in terms of philosophy for the team. Adam and Brandan discuss some of the major similarities with the new coaches compared to the former coaches who held the position. Brian Schottenheimer replaces Darrell Bevell, Mike Solari is in for Tom Cable and Ken Norton Jr. returns to the team to take over for Kris Richard. Adam explains why he is two-thirds excited over these changes. Keith Myers of 12th Man Rising and co-host of the Hawks Playbook podcast joins the show to talk about the departure of Tom Cable and the impact he had on the offensive line during his tenure with the Seahawks. He also offers his thoughts on Mike Solari and why he's excited about the Seahawks going back to the coach who held the job during two of the worst Seahawks seasons in recent history. The Seahawks have their first arrest of the offseason as Jeremy Lane expresses his surprise that people can get a DUI for substances other than alcohol. The guys discuss the idea of having toxicity brackets considering how terrible some people are at driving even when they are sober. Looking way ahead to 2018, there is already a game for fans to mark on their calendar as the Seahawks are set to take on the Oakland Raiders in Week 6 in London. The guys talk about some of the logistics associated with the game and all of the excitement among fans overseas surrounding the game. A note to mock draft headline writers and writers who express surprise over the crazy things that happen during their personal mock drafts. And how the NFL rules committee needed to do better leading into the playoffs to get away from meaningless moments after games end in spectacular fashion. The guys close the show by honoring Cliff Avril's passion to return to the field and to Vikings fans for recognizing an act of sportsmanship in their big win over the Saints. Ep 187187: Coaching changes, optimism among position groups heading to 2018, potential Seahawks OC candidates
Big news this week for the Seahawks as offensive coordinator Darrell Bevel and Tom Cable both let go by the Seahawks. This week's show focuses primarily on the change at offensive coordinator and some potential names that have been discussed immediately after the news came out. Adam talks about a candidate he likes who coaches running backs for the Titans while Brandan looks at a quarterback coach of a division rival. After venting last week, the guys come back toward looking ahead for some reasons for optimism at the various position groups with a focus primarily on younger players, but also some veterans who are at the core of this Seahawks team. Pete Carroll gave his end-of-season press conference recently and the guys reference how some of the comments from the head coach are important clues to how he seems this team moving forward. One name on defense may come as a surprise to be included in the top three, and on the offensive side of the football two names at running back were likely left off his list intentionally. Looking at some NFL and college football, we take a trip to Prisco's World this week for some of his comments made following Alabama's overtime win in the final playoff game. Adam also offers his thoughts on the latest ESPN article on the Patriots. After some talk about the Divisional Round matchups, a look at standings in the pick'em league and email questions, the guys get into the final two segments of the show. A pair of Cleveland Browns players need to lighten up and do better, and Adam explains how the Rams owner clearly doesn't know what it means to have a home field advantage. Ep 186186: A fitting end to the Seahawks season, venting the anger from what went wrong in 2017, and possible changes ahead in Seattle
Pete Carroll called this Sunday's game against the Cardinals a microcosm of the season. Because he's absolutely right the brief overview of this game ends up leading into some of the major complaints for the season as a whole. Adam and Brandan attempt to dissect where some of the major grips are, and recognizing that this team still went 9-7 shows how the situation isn't as dire as many would suggest. Especially when you consider the circumstances of injuries and 3-4 kicks that contributed to missing the postseason. Brandan recognizes that while it wasn't a "championship caliber" team at the end of the season, it was still a team that could rise up and get a win. Looking at how the team played from the first half of games to the second halves of games demonstrated there isn't an issue with talent on the team and how it must some different aspects of coaching or team mentality. Michael Bennett told the Tacoma News Tribune that he doesn't expect to be back next season. The guys offer their reaction and look ahead at the players under contract that could be salary cap casualties as well as the guys on the list who are set to become free agents. The first half of the show ends with an email from Brett in Sydney who offers some of his least favorite moves from the front office in 2017. In the second half of the show, the guys take a look at how sports hate impacts their rooting interest for the playoffs. Which teams can they potentially get behind for making a run at the Super Bowl and which are the least favorable options. They run down the pick'em league leaderboard and congratulate last week's winners and remind people to continue to make their picks throughout the playoffs. Last year it came down to the final game. Adam singles out the Cincinnati Bengals this week and calls them out to do better, and the guys honor Bills fans and an anonymous developer that makes Adam's life better. Ep 185185: Seahawks spoil Zeke's return to Cowboys, Seattle in playoffs with a win and Atlanta loss, and potential Wild Card match ups
Though the final offensive statistics weren't what we've come to expect from a Seahawks team, this 21-12 victory over the Cowboys reminded both Adam and Brandan of a version of this Seattle team from recent history. Russell Wilson didn't need to put it in the air 30-40 times to get a win, instead they kept it on the ground and grinded out 30 runs while getting takeaways from the defense to secure the win. The run defense returned to help slow down Elliot's return to the Cowboys and it successfully ended any playoff chance for Dallas this season. Yet, Earl Thomas was caught on camera campaigning for his favorite team growing up to come get him. Needing a victory over the Cardinals at home and a Falcons loss to the Panthers, the guys look ahead not just to the Arizona game but potential playoff opponents. Two options Adam doesn't want, one that he's okay with, and one that both guys really, really want to see happen in the Wild Card round. In the second half of the show the guys check in on Russell Wilson's MVP chances and look at the players who were selected for the Pro Bowl as well as the alternates. Do better nods go to retail store check writers and announcers who sound as though they're overtly cheering for a particular team. Better at life nods go out to those who helped make Santa magic happen and to a former Seahawks defensive tackle for a kind deed on Christmas Eve. Ep 184184: Seahawks can still win the West after historic loss, other playoff scenarios and Santa is a Cowboys fan
Even after a loss to the division rival, it turns out that the Seahawks can still win the division. If that's the case, why are people ready to throw in the towel, not just on the season but seemingly throw in the towel on the future potential of this team. Adam and Brandan put the loss to the Rams in historical context. With that context, it may be easier to understand why some Seahawks fans seem to be losing their mind. Brandan turns to the playoff generator to look at the scenarios out there that allow the Seahawks to get into the playoffs. The Cowboys find themselves in a similar situation. Does a win this week by either team just delay the inevitable disappointment the following week? It's a big week for Dallas, because their star running back is coming back from his suspension and he's probably going to be running angry. But will he enter the game without his top offensive lineman blocking for him? The guys look at the Cowboys injury situation. Because Santa is a Cowboys fan, Adam decided to sit on his lap prior to the game this week. Hear about where there may or may not be limitations to Santa's magic and what Adam's backup plan should be for the wishes he's asking Santa for. Closing out the show, the guys read emails and take a look at the catch rule which leads to two "Do Better" nominations. Better at life nods go out to the creator of Adam's new favorite commercial and to our members of the flock who helped contribute more than $1,000 to various charities this year. Ep 183183: Frustration among players and fans, linebackers will play a key role in the NFC West showdown, and Fox was holding Rams fan auditions
If there's any lingering frustration after the Seahawks 30-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, let's get it all out now. Adam and Brandan read through comments from The Flock following the game that hit all of the major points of frustration. But perhaps it's not the team to blame, maybe it's one of our listeners who is 0-4 when he's not able to watch the games live. No matter what happens, he's pledging to watch the upcoming game against the Rams live. Whether you're a Seahawks player or a fan, it's likely this Jaguars team was under your skin a bit. Adam says there's a specific year of Seahawks team that he compares the Jaguars defense to (and no it's not the defense that ended up winning the Super Bowl in the 2013 season). Even though this could have given the team a key game toward a spot in the playoffs, Seattle did get some help from a previous opponent. The guys talk about how small the margin of error now is for the team moving forward. Looking ahead to Sunday's game against the Rams, there are two key players we're waiting to hear the status on: Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright. These guys were a big reason why Todd Gurley was kept in check in the previous meeting between the two teams earlier in the season. But things have changed for both of these teams. The Rams defense has shown a lot more consistency and the Seahawks offensive line has improved greatly. Seattle may even have more of a running game at this point in the season. In the second half of the show, the guys talk about some of the news from Patreon that may have impacted some of our members of The Flock. Before getting into their "do better" call outs from the past week, it's important to recognize that we won't be seeing a few analysts from NFL Network on the air after allegations of sexual misconduct were reported this last week. Adam suggests a possible campaign of solidarity for men to rally around. In the final portion of the show, Brandan talks about how it must be difficult to find Rams fans in Los Angeles, with a possible explanation of how we may just not understand the culture of or NFC West rivals. Adam finds himself looking in the mirror after discovering a bonehead mistake he made while working on his vehicle. Better at life nods this week go to Doug Baldwin and to a Seahawks equipment manager who may have prevented a disaster. Ep 182182: An "unfair" rule and lateral physics help the Seahawks take down the Eagles, Russell Wilson faces the NFL's top defense, and Prisco Awakens
With the Philadelphia Eagles coming into town this past week, Seahawks fans heard over and over how their opposition put up more points in the first quarter than any other team. Not only that, but their opponents had yet to score a first quarter touchdown. Seattle put an end to that streak and got out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, which turned the tables on the Eagles who had to try and come back from a 17-3 deficit by the 3rd quarter. Timely penalties by the Eagles defense helped keep the Seahawks on the field along with a lateral pass that has stirred up some controversy (because the Seahawks can't win in prime time without it). And Seattle's defense once again forced a fumble that went out the back of the end zone to help keep points off the board. It was a tremendous defensive performance and a reminder to anyone that might consider doubting the capabilities of a team down three Pro Bowl starters. Next up, the Seahawks head down to Jacksonville as the guys talk about some things to consider when Russell Wilson goes up against the NFL's top scoring defense and a league leading passing defense. The formula for taking down the Jaguars isn't much different than the one they've used in the past in wins against the Eagles and Rams. After the break, Brandan touches a nerve with Adam when asking about his favorite Christmas carols after spending the weekend at the mall. They talk about who needs to do better after watching some dirty plays throughout the NFL this weekend. Finally, better at life nods go to an eccentric billionaire who is launching a vehicle into space and we take a trip to Prisco's World as someone unexpectedly calls for our quarterback to be considered in the MVP discussion. Ep 181181: Russell's campaign for MVP, Lacy shows his style in 49ers victory, Seahawks make up names to add to o-line depth
With the win over the San Francisco 49ers, Russell Wilson passed another big milestone as the winningest quarterback in NFL history through his first six seasons. He also became the fastest players to throw for 150 touchdowns and rush for 3,000 yards. That puts him up with only seven other NFL players in history to hit those numbers and half of the retired players on that list are in the Hall of Fame. Bobby Wagner had another big game with an incredible interception and it was also a big day for tight ends. Nick Vannett caught his first touchdown pass in the NFL and Jimmy Graham now has more touchdown catches than any other Seahawks tight end in team history. Adam and Brandan talk about how much fun the tight ends room must be at the team facility and how it compares to the receiver's room. Looking ahead to the matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, the guys talk about what the Eagles do well, including the talk of Carson Wentz and his MVP potential. The Eagles are top in the league when it comes to run defense and their also near the top with their run game on offense. Adam talks about why their team strengths match up well for Seattle considering the Seahawks strengths to this point in the season. In the second half of the show the guys talk about some injury updates and how the Jacksonville game was flexed to the afternoon. Now the Seahawks have no games at 10am PT this season. There was one questionable transaction as the Seahawks appear to be making names up of offensive lineman to the practice squad. After reading some emails and Facebook posts, Adam tells Apple why they need to do better and Brandan talks about a drone pilot arrested near the game this weekend. Better at life honors go to scientists for proving the correct way to have toilet paper on the roll and to Russell Wilson as we cheer him on down the stretch this season. Ep 180180: Climbing the ladder of accountability after the Falcons loss, records could fall vs the 49ers, and a limo driver who decides to drive a rocket
The Seahawks come up a couple feet short from tying the game at the end of regulation and end up losing 34-31 to the Falcons. Seattle has now lost in back-to-back games at home and yet they're still in position to win the NFC West. Adam and Brandan analyze all of the areas in this game where things went wrong and also look at what went right for Seattle. Russell Wilson had some more incredible plays and Tyler Lockett made the highlight reels with his kick returns. One thing we're not talking about after the Atlanta game is how the loss of Chancellor and Sherman ultimately didn't seem to be the difference to costing the game. There were so many other factors that contributed, including speculation of why Thomas Rawls has to sit out a game so Eddie Lacy can get a couple snaps in this game. The San Francisco 49ers are coming off their bye, and while many speculated how it would be a perfect time for newly acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to make his debut, it looks like Beathard will continue to start. The guys talk about some potential records that could fall this week and discuss one of the most noticeable differences between the Seahawks and the NFL's top teams. Happy Thanksgiving to all the listeners as we talk about our Thursday game picks and congratulate the top teams from the previous week. This upcoming week is going to be difficult for people to gain ground because there are so many heavy favorites. A pair of coaches get called out in the Do Better segment this week after the Bills coach shows he made a terrible mistake and Bruce Arians of the Cardinals owns a mistake only to turn right around and brag about how he made a great call and it was his players who screwed up. Finally, better at life honors go to a former Oklahoma Sooners basketball player for how she handled an interaction on Twitter and to a flat Earther turned rocket scientist who looks to make history on Saturday. Ep 179179: Russell Wilson's pirouettes highlight victory against Arizona, Seahawks look to continue big streak against the Falcons, and how Sherman's injury impacts playoff chances
Now that it's been a full week since last Thursday's game, Brandan and Adam discuss the Seahawks win over the Arizona Cardinals. The primetime game gave Russell Wilson a chance to shine in the national spotlight and he took advantage by breaking out a double-pirouette move on a throw to Doug Baldwin that ultimately resulted in a touchdown to Wilson's new favorite end zone target. The play also caught the attention of Pete Prisco, a CBS analyst who has always said Russell Wilson is "good not great," so we take a trip to Prisco's World to see what Pete thought about Wilson latest magic show. Turns out Prisco likes a metric that should have him reconsidering how he categorizes the Seahawks quarterback. Richard Sherman is out for the season and there's a big question about how the team's secondary will look without their elite cornerback. The guys discuss how the injury shouldn't have the same impact that Earl Thomas' injury did last year, but it's still no guarantee that it doesn't have an impact on where we'd like to see the Seahawks go this season. The Atlanta Falcons come to town riding high on their victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The Falcons pass rush really got after Dak Prescott, including a six-sack performance by Adrian Clayborn. What does that mean for Wilson, the Seahawks offensive line and what can the team do to slow them down? In the second half of the show, the guys continue the discussion about Byron Maxwell's return to Seattle and a listener emails in a quote from Doug Baldwin and his thoughts on Thursday Night Football. Do better shots go to the Vikings GM this week and to a fan of another team that Adam accuses of caring way too much. Ep 178178: Home loss has fans hitting the midseason panic button, players to watch rebound versus the Cardinals
Sunday's loss is probably going to be one of those games that sticks with Seahawks fans for the rest of the season. It was a game, much like a game against the Cardinals last year, where it looked like a win was imminent. The closer the team gets to the postseason, the more it looks like the game will have a big impact on how the playoff picture shapes up. This seems like it will be that game for the 2017 season. Adam and Brandan take a look at all of the areas or players fans are pointing blame toward after this game. And they react to fans who are ready to push the panic button after a game where it was clear who the more talented football team was on the field. Brandan takes a chunk of the blame for clearly jinxing the team on last week's show. With the short week, it's already time for the player to get right back into game mode and they face off against a familiar opponent. Though the Cardinals are familiar, it's going to be a much different look with Carson Palmer and David Johnson on the bench. Instead they're facing Drew Stanton and Adrian Peterson. Adam explains how this sets game sets up well for the Seahawks to bounce back after a tough loss. In the second half of the show, another listener takes some blame for the loss, although it's for a very good reason. This week Adam goes after a prominent NFL owner in the "do better" segment, while Brandan explains why Seahawks fans shouldn't be fooled about the way a stats guy says the end of the game should have played out. Ep 177177: NFL Game of the Year edition, Seahawks trade for Texans All-Pro tackle and help Watson join elite QB trio
The Seahawks make a big move at the trade deadline to get an All-Pro caliber offensive lineman as Duane Brown comes to the team. Seattle gives up a couple of high draft picks and end up keeping Jeremy Lane after he fails a physical. Brandan is baffled that the Texans would find a way to send him back to Seattle, especially considering the outcome of what may have been the best NFL game to watch this year. The Seahawks and Texans battled back and forth the entire game. Seattle was the only team with back-to-back scores and Russell Wilson accumulates another "stat." Although the Seahawks defense gave up nearly 40 points, there were some noteworthy performances on the defensive line and multiple interceptions by the Legion of Boom helped Russell Wilson and the offense to rack up enough points in a shootout nobody could have predicted. The guys talk about Deshaun Watson and how he deserves praise for the kind of performance that even veteran quarterbacks haven't been able to achieve in Seattle. The guys look ahead to Sunday's upcoming game against Washington, offer a look at their talent that Seattle fans should be aware of and discuss why the condition their opponent's offensive line has Adam wishing for the perfect weather to give Kirk Cousins something to look forward to. In the second half of the show, Brandan gives a mid-season update on the bet with the Rams Podcast. There's a new patch donated from a member of the flock to go out to podcast listeners and a new prize to offer up to the pick'em league champion. Do better nods this week go out to an Ad Council commercial that features some creepy cutaways and to the national media for not giving the Seahawks the appropriate level of attention after their latest win. To close out the show, Brandan gives a better at life award to the Texans quarterback for joining an elite trio of quarterbacks and Adam professes his love to the Seahawks general manager for doing something about an issue he's been complaining about for a while. Ep 176176: Sexy deep ball hat trick takes down the Giants, Seahawks add a Hall of Famer, top rookie QB to visit the CLink
After a 24-7 victory over the New York Giants, the Seattle Seahawks return home to Seattle for a two-game home stand. What the defense has shown in the last two road games is exactly what many fans expected from this team. Brandan and Adam talk about some of the top performances on defense and look at what happened on offense that led to a 7-3 halftime deficit. But the offense rallied in the second half, led by a three sexy deep balls thrown by Russell Wilson. Doug Baldwin hauled in one for a touchdown, which put him into the top three scoring receivers in team history. Yet, he'll probably be remembered more for pushing Coach Cable in this game instead of his big catches. The guys offer their perspective and why Coach Carroll is taking the blame. Dwight Freeney, a future Hall of Fame pass rusher was signed by the Seahawks this week. A shocker to nobody, Adam thinks the money could have been used elsewhere. Brandan talks about how he expects Freeney to be used situationally and how he can still make a difference. The Houston Texans are coming into Seattle with a quarterback who is on pace to have one of the top rookie seasons in NFL history. Brandan appears to jinx the Seahawks by mentioning a huge winning streak by Russell Wilson, but fortunately he also jinxes the Texans by mentioning a streak their coach has going for the team. Considering how the Texans have operated through the first few weeks, Brandan thinks there's one player on defense who is clearly set to have a big day. In the final segment of the show, the guys talk about their trip to New York and some of the members of the flock they came across while on the road. Do better nods go out to Arizona Cardinals fans and a guy in Adam's current town who ended up in the slammer. Better at life honors go to a Chicago Bears player who celebrated an anniversary with a new NFL record and to a pair of boxers who had an unusual pre-fight encounter. Ep 175175: Pete Carroll says it was great to see the Giants at their best, spotlight on possible o-line moves over the bye, NYC Meetup
With the Seahawks coming off their bye week, Adam and Brandan take a look around the NFC West to see how the rest of the division fared while the team was resting up. No new injuries came to light, but we did hear an updated timeline for Luke Joeckel. The guys discuss what that will mean for the offensive line until he can return. The New York Giants are returning back home after a big win over the Denver Broncos. After losing four of their receivers, including Odell Beckham Jr, their rookie tight end emerged as Eli Manning's top target. Orleans Darkwa was also a big part of the Giants win along with a big game from Jason Pierre-Paul and Janoris Jenkins on defense. Pete Carroll commented on how it was great to see this Giants team playing at its best and that there was a lot they could gain from watching it. With the upcoming game against the Giants, we highlight one of the top Seahawks bars in the country by bringing on Patrick Shalvoy. Patrick was the bartender there who helped make it a destination for all Seahawks fans on Sunday. After getting things established in 2009, he shares the story of the moment the bar solidified itself as a place where Seahawks fans will always have a home. He also shares his story about how fans and bar patrons rallied around him after a stroke nearly took his life. In the last portion of the show, we get an update from a member of the flock who has Adam's favorite catch phrase resonating through the Pentagon. Do better nods go to Skip Bayless as well as anyone crying about a play that continues to emphasize the importance of ball security near the goal line. The guys talk about a former Seahawks lineman who gets an honorary Better at Life nomination from Washington's Lieutenant Governor. Adam recognizes a former Lakers legend for doing the right thing when Skip Bayless wasn't, and Brandan recognizes a big milestone for any fans of cryptozoology. Ep 174174: Seahawks earn a road victory vs Rams, Cardinals trying to stay competitive, and Earl Thomas credits a legend
Four turnovers by the Seahawks defense helped to keep Seattle in the game and ultimately earn the victory over the L.A. Rams. But we shouldn't be too quick to call them the best performing unit for the Seahawks on Sunday. The guys offer the critique on why the defense doesn't get all of the credit and what is keeping them from being comparable to the 2013 Seattle defense that helped to win it all. It was another week where the running game couldn't get going, which has Adam thinking of other ways to move the offense. There's a running back tandem that he's interested in pairing in the backfield and neither Thomas Rawls or Eddie Lacy are involved. One running back the Seahawks showed interest in this offseason is now going to the Cardinals. What does this mean for our NFC West rivals moving forward? Can Adrian Peterson be the piece they need to stay competitive in the division? As the one team in the division Seattle hasn't faced, the guys take a look at Arizona along with the other upcoming teams and talk about why picking games in April is a wasted effort. In the second half of the show, the guys announce the leaders of the pick'em league, a listener scolds Brandan for ruining a bake sale and they talk about the latest article from Jenny Goos. One guy defending Cam Newton after last week was John Moffitt and Jenny was not impressed with how he doubled down on Cam's statement. Who needs to do better this week? CBS for their apparent problem with geography and to the Dolphins former coach who has a strange way of professing his love for a woman in his life. Better at life goes to a scientist's work toward predicting future volcanic activity and Earl Thomas shares his nomination with someone he credited for helping him master a move that is helping the Seahawks win games. Ep 173173: Russell Wilson's emotion highlighted in win over Indy, Rams offense leading the NFL, and fulfilling a HOFer's request
It's a Seahawks blowout on Sunday Night Football as the Seahawks get the 46-18 win, but it's important to remind ourselves that the Seahawks were tied with 20 minutes left in this game. It wasn't until Russell Wilson showed some emotion getting into the end zone that it seemed to propel the team in the second half. While it's a bit cliché to refer to football as a game of inches, we saw why in this game. Every inch seemed to go Indy's way in the first half, and Seattle ended up getting those same breaks in the second half. Last week, we talked about Justin Coleman's absence since seeing him take over for Jeremy Lane in game one. Now Coleman has earned a new nickname thanks to some help from Jacoby Brissett in reuniting the young corner with his family. This is the week to say CATFISH the Rams. Los Angeles is leading the NFL in points and has been very productive on offense early on this season. With injuries stacking up after last week's game, the guys look at who has been practicing and who will be out. Rees Odhiambo had a scary injury against the Colts and incredibly looks like he's on his way to play in the game against the Rams. Adam points out how this is a different Rams team this year. This will be the first time in many years the Seahawks face this team without Jeff Fisher leading the team. The defense continues to be scary, but the guys talk about one weakness that teams have been exploiting throughout the first quarter of the season this year. In the second half of the show the guys welcome some new members of the flock and Brandan talks about his experience at the game this past Sunday. Brandan calls out a member of the flock who needs to do better, and Adam has words for Cam Newton who embarrassed himself with his comments to a female reporter this week. Better at life honors go out to Jon Ryan's wife for giving us one more reason to root for a Seahawks win and to a section in the stadium who helped accomplish something that Hall of Fame safety Kenny Easley wanted to see this weekend. Ep 172172: HOF tackle Walter Jones interview, another slow start for the offense, Seahawks to retire Easley's number on Sunday
Hall of Fame offensive lineman Walter Jones joins the show this week to offer his thoughts on the Seahawks game with the Tennessee Titans and the team as the whole through the first few weeks in the season. He talks about FanCom, a new service coming online this weekend to allow fans to interact with NFL greats. Before the interview Adam and Brandan discuss what happened in the game against the Titans, what the team needs to do to get back on track and the reason why our offensive coordinator has difficultly calling a game before the last couple minutes of the first half. For the first time this year, fans had reason to be concerned about the defense, but there is a comparison to last year that should tell us that everything will be fine. Seattle returns home to take on the Indianapolis Colts who defeated the Browns last week. Andrew Luck is out, but their other quarterback seems to have a finger firmly in control of the circle button. Kenny Easley will have his jersey number retired at the game this weekend, and he's asked for fans to bring back the wave for at least one game. Adam makes Brandan promise to have words with any fan not following through on the Hall of Famers wishes. In the second half of the show, Adam's Do Better and Better at Life both have to do with his latest travels on the road. Brandan talks about how political issues mixing with sports can sometimes make political reporters sound out of touch with sports fans, while all the Matt's are 'Better at Life' this week. Ep 171171: Chris Carson flashes in victory over 49ers, Seahawks LOB vs Titans Exotic Smashmouth, and Sam Gold of NFLbreakdowns.com
The Seattle Seahawks have eight straight wins in their home opener in the Pete Carroll era, eight straight wins over the 49ers, and we've enduring eight straight quarters of football that has been difficult to watch in terms of the offense. While the issue seemed clear last week, it seems as though there's more to be concerned about after the latest win. But are we as down on the team this week if two players don't drop touchdown catches? Would we be as concerned if Carlos Hyde didn't break two big runs on the defense? Adam and Brandan sort through where some of the real concerns are and if this is just something that's normal for the start of a Seahawks season. Apart from the two long runs, the defense stifled the 49ers offense and held Brian Hoyer under 100 yards passing. They almost added a safety, but the refs ruled that Hoyer's "forward progress" kept him out of the end zone. Brandan talks about the "rule snobs" that come out on Twitter when you show any weakness in knowing the NFL rule book. The guys look ahead to the matchup with the Titans. They break down a term fans might hear a lot this upcoming week, "exotic smashmouth." But what does that mean to play that style of football? While the Seahawks defense is equipped to go up against any offense, the Titans defense offers similar strengths and vulnerabilities to the Packers team they faced in Week 1. Sam Gold, founder of NFL Breakdowns and staff writer for Field Gulls, joins the show this week to talk about two big components of the Seattle offense: the zone read and the wide receiver screens. The NFL gets a "Do Better" this week for mistakes that were made in pulling together nominees for the 2018 Hall of Fame class and Better at life honors go to former Seahawks receiver Golden Tate for reminding a fan about the reality of football and to Paul Allen who celebrated 20 years of taking ownership of the Seahawks and his role in keeping the team in Seattle. Ep 170170: Pete Carroll's defense shines even in a losing effort, Rawls is back vs 49ers, and Michael Bennett's incident in Vegas
Seattle drops its first game of the 2017 season after going into Lambeau Field and losing 17-9 to the Green Bay Packers. Despite the Seahawks remaining winless there since 1999, fans had a lot of reason for optimism after seeing how the defense performed against one of the league's top teams and top quarterback. The Seahawks defense nearly got the team its first points on an Aaron Rodgers interception by rookie Naz Jones. But the play was called back because of a pair of penalties, one that got Jeremy Lane ejected from the game less than 10 defensive snaps into the game. The ejection gave Pete Carroll and the Seahawks an long look at rookie Shaquille Griffin and slot corner Justin Coleman. Both seemed to complement a squad stacked with Pro Bowl defenders. Former Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson played like the interior defender the Seahawks have been looking for. The guys talk about the historic defense Pete Carroll grew up watching and how that might play a role in his continued pursuit toward producing an all-time defensive unit. While penalties did play a role in this game, it wasn't the reason they lost. Adam and Brandan talk about the plays that would have allowed Seattle to come away with a victory. Coming back home to play a 49ers team that also struggled to move the ball should give them a good chance to get in win column. Which team can fix their offensive line issues enough in time for Sunday will have an edge over the competition. The talent differential between these two teams is a big gap to overcome for the 49ers and first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan. Adam talks about how the vistitng coaches gutsy nature could factor into the game. After last week's show, we learned details from an incident Michael Bennett was involved with in Las Vegas a couple weeks back. The guys share some clips of the press conference from Las Vegas police and some of the stories players shared during their talks with local media. Do better callouts this week go to a team that reminds Brandan of his kids' poor habit of not listening the first time as Adam calls out a sideline reporter. Better at life nods go to a retired piece of technology and a reporter who recognizes a Spokane couple married for 75 years with names matching two devastating hurricanes. Ep 169169: Sheldon Richardson joins a stacked d-line, Packers preview, and a Jermaine Kearse tribute
During last week's show, Adam and Brandan talked about how John Schneider would look at talent across the league to make some additions. In turns out that he wanted to make a much bigger splash than the usual additions of some fringe players on the roster. The Seahawks send Jermaine Kearse and a second round pick to the New York Jets for Pro Bowl defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson. This brings in the caliber of player Seattle has been looking for in the middle of their defense since Coach Carroll arrived. That wasn't the only trade that went down prior to solidifying the 53-man roster as Cassius Marsh was dealt to the Patriots. The guys talk about the chess match that must have been going on between the two GMs in that deal. The cuts of Pierre Desir and Kasen Williams may have been the two most disappointing cuts, but it's important to not lose perspective on the relative impact those players may have had on the final roster. Looking ahead to the matchup with the Packers in Week 1, Adam talks about how critical the pass rush will be to stopping Aaron Rodgers. He also reminds us all about the energy surrounding opening games and how the Seahawks could be in danger of falling behind early. Despite the strength of Aaron Rodgers and all his weapons at wide receiver and tight end, the Packers have their own weaknesses. It's going to be on Russell Wilson to show up and be on point like he's shown in the preseason. With Jermaine Kearse heading to the New York Jets, Adam and Brandan look back at five of the biggest plays Kearse gave us during his time in Seattle. As we welcome new members of the flock, we look ahead at the potential for keeping Richardson on the roster beyond 2017. Do better nods go to the officiating crew from the past game and their slow tablets and to the Seahawks latest unveiling that has some graphic designers cringing. Better at life nods go to J.J. Watt and his efforts to raise funds for Houston and Adam brings attention to the firefighters in Montana as an extreme fire season has gotten very little national attention. Ep 168168: Russell Wilson continues preseason domination with Odhiambo at left tackle, decisions ahead with the 53-man roster
The Seahawks pick up another preseason victory, 26-13 over the Kansas City Chiefs, as the Legion of Boom holds Alex Smith under 50 yards and the offense to only 3 points. Russell Wilson has looked incredible as he dials in his game this pre-season. Explosive plays to Jermaine Kearse, Chris Carson and Jimmy Graham were a big part of his 200-yard effort. Part of the reason for his success was the fact that he was given time to throw behind an offensive line that, now with Rees Odhiambo at left tackle, looks like it may not have been impacted by the injury to George Fant. Despite Procise and Rawls sitting out another preseason game, the running game impressed with Eddie Lacy and Chris Carson. The guys talk about what that means for Alex Collins and some of the other backs on the roster. With most of the starters likely sitting out against the Raiders this week, Adam and Brandan look ahead to that game with the idea of who they want to see to help make some of the tough decisions with the 53-man roster. They also discuss how some contract maneuvering and depth at running back could leave fullback Marcel Reece off the initial cut only to be brought back after Week 1. In the second half of the show, the guys wonder what some of the foods are that you wouldn't want to drink beer with. Brandan questions Adam's prediction of Rees Odhiambo for the Pro Bowl and why that's what he's choosing to root for this year. The guys discuss an email that has a listener infuriated over Russell Wilson's placement on a recent list. Finally, Do Better nods to go to some uninformative coverage from ESPN regarding the uptick in demonstrations during the National Anthem and Adam calls out the dirtiest player in the NFL. Better at life honors go to Adam's favorite general manager in basketball while Brandan talks about an MMA fighter who provided some entertainment on his way to a big payday. Ep 167167: Doug Baldwin and Russell Wilson look set for big season, how Fant's injury impacts the Seahawks o-line plans
The Seahawks pick up another preseason victory after a 20-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin looked like they were already in midseason form as they put on a show in front of the home crowd. Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns and the Seattle defense held the Vikings first-team offense to a couple field goals. Kasen Williams had another score and appears to have locked up a job on this team in the eyes of most fans. At running back the guys talk about the potential three-man race for the final spot on the roster and who is currently in the lead. The guys talk about which of the 2017 rookies are really standing out and which ones could play a significant role come Week 1. Pete Carroll's philosophy of letting a younger and more inexperience player crack the starting lineup could mean that guys like Ethan Pocic, Nazair Jones and Shaq Griffin can be contributors right away. With two preseason games down, Brandan is noticing that his feelings on two of the free agent acquisitions are going in opposite directions than expected. Eddie Lacy had the start this week and had fewer yards than any of the Seahawks running backs with more than three carries in the game. And it was Blair Walsh providing some excitement and taunting his former team with a pair of 50+ yard field goals. The upcoming game against the Chiefs gives the Seahawks another look at a strong defensive line going into the season. George Fant's gut wrenching injury appears to allow Rees Odhiambo to move into the starting lineup, but why isn't Joeckel, a guy they've flaunted as one who can play both guard and tackle on the left side, moving over to take Fant's job? After the break, the guys remind fans not to expect roster cut downs to 75 this year as the rules changed and now the cuts to the 53-man roster will be done all at once. Brandan talks about his experience in the Bay Area and how hyped Raiders fans are to have Marshawn Lynch playing for their team this season. The eclipse this week dominates the coverage in the Do Better segment and Better at Life honors go to a little league show of sportsmanship and a former rival wide receiver who decided to hang up his cleats. Ep 166166: Seahawks showcase depth as 2nd team puts up big numbers in their first preseason game
The starters played just one drive against the Los Angeles Chargers this weekend, but the story of the game was showcasing the depth of talent the Seahawks have this season. The 2nd team offense, helped by turnovers created by the 2nd team defense, put up 31 points before halftime. The Chargers were shut out in the second half to give Seattle the 48-17 victory. Brandan and Adam get into some of the standout performances, Adam reminds everyone "he told you so" when it comes to Boykin's ability to fill in behind Russell Wilson, and they discuss their reasons for optimism with the offensive line. Brandan already feels like he may have a preseason crush on a running back. Jessamyn McIntyre, executive producer at 710 ESPN in Seattle, joins the show to talk about her takeaways from the first preseason game. She says this is the type of game to give the team its swagger back and talks about her impressions of the Seahawks rookie cornerback Shaq Griffin. While the offensive line looked good, it's still tough to draw conclusions about which players will be starting come Week 1. Coming up August 23, Jessamyn is hosting a Seahawks fan event in Seattle and listeners of the show can enter to win free tickets at homestandsports.com/seahawkers or they can use the promo code "seahawkers" at checkout to get $5 off each ticket. In the second half of the show, some of the newest members of the flock share some thoughts on the team, and the guys get one of their favorite emails they've ever received. Do better nods to go a former Packers tight end for telling one of our Seahawks to essentially "shut up and play," and Adam gives a piece of his mind to people on Twitter for abusing an opportunity to send a message to a spacecraft celebrating its 40th anniversary. Better at life honors go to Bill Gates for what may be a record-sized tax exemption and to Kris Richard for letting us all know how cold blooded he can be at the end of a preseason game. Ep 165165: 2017 expectations, former long snapper Clint Gresham talks about his new book, Easley inducted into the HOF
We're celebrating a full four years of the Sea Hawkers Podcast this week, and we have a former Super Bowl Champion long snapper coming on the show to help celebrate this week. Clint Gresham has a new book coming out called, Becoming: Loving the Process to Wholeness. He talks about some of the events that inspired him to write the book and he's still ready to play if he's called on to return to the team. Outside of the interview, Clint tells us that there's a portion of the book the team wasn't comfortable with helping to promote. Before we get to the interview, the guys talk about their expectations for the 2017 Seattle Seahawks as they go into their first preseason game this weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers. While they both expect the run game to improve, Brandan thinks it will lead to some big numbers in the passing game. While Adam expects the defense to return to form and once again lead the NFL in scoring defense, Brandan expects a former All-Pro player to drop from that level. The guys also get into some of the latest training camp news from this past week. Coach Carroll is really excited by the team's third-round cornerback and their top offensive lineman is getting extra reps this week because of a punch thrown by Frank Clark. Rounding out the news on the top picks from 2017, Malik McDowell is heading home to rest even though he feels fine. Coach Carroll explains that his injury is going to require him to rest and will likely miss the first game of the season and beyond. Kenny Easley was inducted into the Hall of Fame this week, and he has a message for the 12s when he returns to town for the Seahawks second home game this year. A listener asks which players from the Pete Carroll and John Schneider era we can expect to see in the Hall of Fame in the future. The show concludes with a group of office workers who were willing to have chips implanted into their bodies for functions normally handled by a piece of plastic and a do better for the Dallas Cowboys for cutting a player for a case of mistaken identity. Better at life nods go to the Dolphins for solidifying Adam's rooting interest against the team, and to the 12s Helping 12s group for making a special moment happen at the Pro Bowl between a Hall of Famer and a long-time Seahawks super fan. Ep 164164: Training camp opens w/contract for Kam, camp battles, and Seahawks top pick injured in accident
Seahawks training camp is underway and Brandan and Adam are jacked up and ready to go for the 2017 season. Another guy who should be fired up for the season is Kam Chancellor who just signed a three-year extension to help ensure he's with the team for another four seasons and potentially retire as a member of the Seahawks. The guys break down what Chancellor has meant to the club over the past years, some of the moments where he's changed games, and why the role he plays with the team is so important. Not only is Kam back and ready, other members of the Legion of Boom are standing out including Earl Thomas as well as early reports of Jeremy Lane making strides to securing the cornerback spot opposite Richard Sherman. Not all news is good though. Camp starts without the Seahawk top pick in town after an reported ATV injury kept Malik McDowell from reporting on time. Questions still remain over the extent of his injuries. The guys talk about the latest with the offensive line through the first couple days as Adam impatiently wants things to already be settled before going into the first preseason game and the guys close out the first half of the show by talking about a recent Richard Sherman interview. A cool announcement as we thank an anonymous donor, who says that for everyone who joins the flock at getintheflock.com for the next month at the $3 level (or higher) it will bring an additional $3 to the show. Finally, do better nods go to Andy Benoit of Monday Morning Quarterback and Dave Dameshek of NFL Network for ranking some Seahawks far too low on their respective offseason lists. Better at life honors go to Sheil Kapadia, Seahawks beat reporter at ESPN, and to Tabby's star for spurring Adam to believe intelligent life forms are out there in our galaxy. Ep 163163: Know Your Rival – Arizona Cardinals w/former Cardinals cheerleader Samantha Sanders
The Know Your Rivals series continues and Samantha Sanders, a former Arizona Cardinals cheerleader from 2011-2012, joins the show to talk about her expectations for the Cards in the 2017 season. With an aging Carson Palmer and the top two receivers under contract, the guys ask her about the direction of the team in the future and where she feels the strength of the Cardinals will be. Samantha also talks about her current effort with the Science Cheerleaders and how the group promotes education and employment in the STEM fields. In the second half of the show, Adam and Brandan take a look at the league's offensive lineman. They find that not only do the Seahawks have the lowest cap number for the offensive line, the Seahawks have the fewest number of lineman on the roster of any NFL team. An email prompts a discussion on the potential for Darelle Revis to join the Seahawks and start the season across from Richard Sherman. Brandan offers some details in Revis' contract that makes signing the veteran to a low-cost deal seem unlikely. In the better at life segment, Adam explains his latest customer service experience and Brandan talks about a former Seahawks linebacker who earned a spot in his college's hall of fame. Ep 162162: Know Your Rival - San Francisco 49ers w/Oscar of the Better Rivals Podcast
Rivals Month continues this week with Oscar from the Better Rivals Podcast as we take a look at the offseason for the San Francisco 49ers. Is this team back on track to become the rivalry that it once was? The guys kick off the discussion by talking about a seriously embarrassing move by the team in deciding who they were going to pick to lead the franchise going forward. Despite the coaching changes, there aren't high hopes that the 49ers will challenge for the NFC West title this year, but hope seems to be on the horizon with a change in the team's scheme and a philosophy for acquiring players that many Seahawks fans will recognize. Oscar says a big reason for concern in San Francisco this season is the team's offensive line. His complaints about the ranking of his team's offensive line doesn't go over well. On a positive note, Michael Bennett commented recently on a 49ers defensive lineman who he believes could be a future candidate for Defensive Player of the Year. After the interview, we get into some Russell Wilson talk after his notable appearance on two offseason lists. Wilson is on the list of most clutch quarterbacks of all time, even at this early stage in his career, and a list of the top 3 players you'd want to consider drafting if you were starting your NFL team. Richard Sherman says if NFL players want guaranteed contracts like we see in other sports, the players need to be willing to strike when the collective bargaining agreement is up for renewal. While on the side of the players, Adam and Brandan talk about the realities of how salaries are structured and how that causes problems in getting all the players on board with that idea. Do better nods this week go out to writers who are irritating Adam because they're talking about one of this least favorite coaches in the league and Brandan comes across a story that should shame all of the writers who said the playoff window for the Seahawks is closing. Better at life honors go to a 13-year-old quarterback who showed tremendous grit in leading his team and to a developer for bringing us hope about the future of the human race. Ep 161161: Know Your Rival - Los Angeles Rams w/James and Bear of the Rams Podcast
With very little news about the team this past week, apart from Russell Wilson's diet and announcement regarding his passing academy, we launch into "Rivals Month." Kicking of the series is the Rams Podcast with James and Bear. The guys get into the latest All of Nothing series launched recently and Brandan talks about some of the more interesting highlights and surprises from the series. **Note: Please go to seahawkerspodcast.com/vote and put us in the finals for the 12th Annual Podcast Awards. Just one season after moving to Los Angeles, a lot is changing with the Rams this year. Jeff Fisher is out and now they have the youngest coach in the league. Who is Sean McVay and does he have the vision it takes to build a winning football franchise? Some of his latest moves seem to suggest he does, and he also decided to keep around a coach who has helped burn the Seahawks more than once. As far as predictions for the season, Adam gets into why he believes the Rams might earn the second-best record in the division. The guys close out by talking about a potential bet for the 2017 season. Brandan thinks James' hype around 3rd round pick Cooper Kupp is overrated. In the second half of the show, Peter King gets a 'do better' for dogging one of America's favorite holiday past times and another goes to the ESPN beat writer for the Arizona Cardinals. Better at life honors go to scientists for finding a new positive use for robotics and a Seahawks defensive lineman continues to dominate the offseason with his work off the field. Ep 160160: Making the case for a 16-0 Seahawks season, early 53-man roster predictions, and problems with the NFL list season
What needs to go right for the Seahawks to have a perfect season? It's so difficult that it's only ever happened four times in the entire history of the NFL, even when you include the pre-Super Bowl era teams. But, because it's the offseason and it's show 160, errr 16-0, it made entirely too much sense not to bring up the possibility and the challenges the team would have to overcome. Ross Bell from the Pedestrian Podcast joins the show to talk about his "way too early" 53-man roster projection. The guys talk about how predicting a starting lineup for the Seahawks is incredibly difficult when you have coaches willing to make some unpredictable moves in past seasons. Also, with the flood of new linebackers in the offseason, Ross thinks he has it narrowed to just two new names you'll really need to know going into the season. In the second half of the show, the guys talk about some of the latest news, as the Bennett brothers have been recognized for their off-field work with a recent award. A top member of the Seahawks front office is being interviewed for a General Manager job for the Chiefs, and training camp tickets are almost certainly sold out by the time you hear this. Do better nods go to Bill Belichick for being part of a photo shoot without his signature attire and to Adam for bailing out on a rite of passage all mid-life Americans should have to endure. Better at life callouts go to a website that knows how to make a clickbait headline Adam can enjoy and to a Packers fan who has inspired Adam to search for a single woman with the last name Hawk. Ep 159159: Thomas Rawls storms the depth chart, Sherman sets the story straight, and another visit to Prisco's World
OTAs have wrapped up, the Seahawks mandatory minicamp is over, and now we get into a dark period of a couple weeks before training camp starts. The good news is the season is just around the corner! So far news about the heath of players has been positive as well and nobody sounds more excited than Thomas Rawls. Rawls is so excited, he feels like he needs to take up more than one spot on the depth chart. Adam and Brandan discuss why we fans should remember what had us so excited about Thomas Rawls as the team's #1 running back. The guys take a look at what has Coach Carroll fired up coming out of minicamp and his thoughts on the offensive line, Jimmy Graham and the guy who sounds like has the edge coming into training camp to take over the cornerback spot opposite Richard Sherman. Pete isn't the only coach fired up, in fact, Tom Cable says he's the most excited coach on the team. The NFL Network's Top 100 is nearing a conclusion. All the Seahawks on the list have been named, and there are a couple players who finished ahead of Seattle's top players that are really bothering Adam and Brandan. The Top 100 talk doesn't stop with NFL Network, because a trip to Prisco's World shows us that Pete can make mistakes with his player rankings as well. In the second half of the show, we check in on Marshawn Lynch and our current feeling on his situation. In the email segment we talk about a couple players going into their second year who haven't seen a lot of action and revisit a topic and potential conspiracy theory that can be put to rest. Pro Football Focus and the hoverboard marketing team get taking to task in the do better segment, while a couple of defensive lineman (one current and one former) earn Better At Life honors. Ep 158158: Sunshine and rainbows at OTAs, the drama the ESPN article missed, and the Seahawks pass on Kap
The guys kick off the show this week by talking about some of the news coming out of OTAs, and the very different kinds of stories fans are hearing from the local media vs the kinds of stories fans are getting from the national media. In OTAs, it's a lot of sunshine and rainbows particularly when it comes to George Fant and the improvements he's made over the offseason. On NFL Network they've now made it through 70 of the top 100 players and we expect three Seahawks to show up on the list in the coming weeks. Adam and Brandan run down where guys fell out on the list to this point. The highest ranking player on the list so far is entering the final year of his contract and Michael Bennett is lobbying for him to get a new deal. The ESPN article that was discussed on last week's show continues to make headlines, because now local reporters can ask players about their opinion on it while the players go through OTAs. One of the more shocking revelations is that some guys still aren't over the Super Bowl loss. Do they really have to get over it or just find a way to use the loss as some sort of constructive motivation? Austin Davis has been signed to compete at the backup quarterback position which set off a small firestorm of its own, because apparently it was Colin Kaepernick's last opportunity to get a job. The guys break down an incredibly contradictory media report on NFL Network to show just how absurd the situation is. The guys close out the show with some new members of the flock and some of your emails. Do better nods go to Bleacher Report and a writer using a slippery slope argument for ending a Nashville tradition. Better at life nominations go to a pair of former Stanford teammates, one for a lecture to reporters and one for keeping a year-old promise to a high school student. Content mentioned worth checking out: Danny Kelly reminds us that there's some drama that Seth missed when writing his article about the Seahawks Russell Wilson moves past the 49ers on skates in the latest Nike commercial. Ep 157157: Remembering Cortez Kennedy w/former Seahawks DB Nesby Glasgow, ESPN writer pits Sherman vs Wilson
Incredibly sad news this past week as we learned of the passing of Seahawks Hall of Fame defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy. Kennedy passed away at the age of 48. Adam and Brandan bring on former Seahawks defensive back Nesby Glasgow to talk about his memories of Tez as well as his memories of finishing off his career in a Seahawks uniform. In other Seahawks news from the past week, Colin Kaepernick made a visit to Seattle in addition to another backup prospect Austin Davis. Is it time we start, at the very least, considering the idea that Kap may be the Seahawks backup quarterback? Michael Bennett had Kapernick's back this past week and his support found him in a Twitter war with Stephen A. Smith. That wasn't the only fight he got into with a highly opinionated member of the media as Matt Calkins of the Seattle Times took some shots at him, which Bennett responded by advocating a boycott of the local newspaper. Bennett also called an article by Seth Wickersham of ESPN "trash," after the reporter clearly went out of his way to try and pit Richard Sherman against Russell Wilson. The guys go through the article and talk about what was worthwhile in the article as it tries to explain some of the reasons behind why Sherman hasn't gotten over the Super Bowl loss. The title of Flocktimus Maximus goes to DCH this week, who is helping us with our latest piece of equipment for the show. Accuracy of reports coming out of Montana's special election get a big do better as well as a guy who got Adam into a high speed pursuit on I-90. Better at Life goes to Cortez Kennedy as we honor his memory and close out the show with some of his words from his 2012 Hall of Fame induction. Ep 156156: Clickbait, rookie minicamp, Seahawks numerology, and the 'perfect backup' QB for Seattle
Introducing a new segment for the show this week as the guys break open some of the recent clickbait headlines with a parody jingle that we hope you enjoy. In real news, Tom Cable went on the radio recently and got the Luke Joekel hype train rolling, so the guys talk about what that could mean for the left side of the offensive line. Rookie minicamp took place recently and we bring in the audio that stood out to us from each of the players along with each player's new number. We recognize some of the players from the past who wore the same number. News this week made it sound like Colin Kaepernick would be the perfect backup quarterback for the Seahawks, however we're missing one key piece of information about how much Kaep would be willing to play for. For some reason a lot of people are assuming he's going to take close to the veteran minimum. If he were to come to the Seahawks, the team doesn't have much more room for that under their cap. Jason Cole uses a statement from Michael Bennett to re-hash and old story about how Russell Wilson doesn't mesh well with the locker room. But the language he uses doesn't even make sense, so the guys try and figure out what he could even mean by perceived favoritism. Chris Johnson from the Renton Sea Hawkers joins the show to talk about his work with the Seattle Ronald McDonald House. Chris has been a part of the show since the beginning having produced the music from the 12 Train that has been used in the show since we started in 2013. Do better nods this week go to the construction crew of the new Chargers and Rams stadium for not factoring in the potential for weather to interrupt their goal to have the venue ready for 2019. Adam goes after the leader of a country who was recently embarrassed by a YouTube video where he was caught wearing some interesting clothing. Better at life nods go to Seahawks fan Chris Cornell, a former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman, who kicked off the 2014 NFL season at CenturyLink. Adam nominates Cary Grant for trying to find a better version of himself in his early days of film, though the method he went about it would not be recommended today. For any use of "You've Been Clickbaited" please contact us and let us know where you'll be using it. Thanks to Jay Stevens on Fiverr for his work.
