Ep 284284: Free agent news - Greg Olsen to the Seahawks, Jadeveon Clowney wants a market-setting contract

The first big news of the offseason hit on Tuesday this week as the Seahawks announced that they had agreed to terms with former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. While Seattle was in the market for a tight end this offseason considering the problems they had with depth at the position, is paying a 35-year-old the best approach. Brandan and Adam discuss the pros and cons of the situation and why the team could have felt that this was the best move to make. In the division, we saw what average tackles are going to start making as D.J. Humphries was re-signed by the Arizona Cardinals. That means that Germaine Ifedi is likely to move on. Could George Fant take Ifedi's spot or is Fant set on heading out of town so he can play at the left tackle spot? Reports of Jadeveon Clowney ran rampant this past week, but as we point out on the show this week, that when you visit the source material behind the story, the thing that sparked the issue is relatively benign. Of course Clowney wants the best deal possible. That's what every player wants in the offseason! We close out the show this week by talking about the Seattle Dragons and their first win at home. CenturyLink Field has decided they don't want to take cash at the stadium anymore, which earns the Seahawks home field a "do better" call out. Better at life honors go to a Super Bowl champion helping to better the lives of some furry friends and to Adam's daughter for asking something a teenager generally wouldn't ask a parent. Ep 283283: Catfish the 49ers!

We start off the show by celebrating the Chiefs win over of NFC West rival and a fourth quarter collapse that allowed 21 fourth quarter points by Kansas City. As much heat as Kyle Shanahan is getting, very little criticism seems to be going toward the San Francisco defense for being anti-clutch in the final moments. We discuss the joy many Seahawks fans are experiencing with Richard Sherman unable to add a second title with his new team. Now that the 2019 season is officially behind us, what needs to change for the Seahawks in 2020. Does Pete Carroll's philosophy need to evolve, could Russell Wilson talk him into allowing the team to run a more up-tempo offense? Adam discusses how the Seahawks can increase their tempo without changing the mindset of being physical in the run game. The discussion leads toward free agency and which players the Seahawks may choose not to re-sign and also players they may cut to add some additional cap space. The biggest key to the offseason should be improving the pass rush and focusing on ways to improve the team's ability to stay healthy throughout the season. Pick'em league winners are announced and the full results are posted. Congratulations go out to those who finished in the top 10 spots. Do better goes to the wind and people who don't return their carts in the parking lot as well as a discussion surrounding the geography of the Super Bowl winner. Better at life honors go to Brandan's daughters effort in the school spelling bee and to Andy Reid for earning his first Super Bowl title as a head coach. Ep 282282: Closing out the Seahawks 2019 season

In what is becoming an overused narrative, the Seahawks did not try and force the run in the divisional round loss to the Green Bay Packers. As frustrating as it was to see once again the Seahawks trying to overcome a big first half deficit, the defenses inability to quickly adjust to the Packers plan to carve the defense with throws to Davante Adams. Even when Flowers tried to stay over the top of Adams in the second half, the receiver made the defense look foolish. Seattle was able to mount a comeback in the second half, but Russell Wilson was under duress for a majority of the game. Adam explains why we saw Pete Carroll and the Seahawks reluctant to "let Russ cook," because he could not survive an entire season taking the kind of hits that he did against the Packers defense. Fortunately, fans were treated to one big moment as Shaquem Griffin logged his first sack in what could have been a huge turning point in the game. The guys talk about the frustrations that fans have with Pete Carroll, what's next for the Seahawks in the offseason and if this group of players lived up to preseason expectations for what they could achieve. Closing out the show, Adam calls out his friend Gerrad for his move to jinx the Seahawks late in the game, and to the 49ers quarterback who had no sense for history at the end of the regular season game against Seattle. Better at life honors go to a comedian raising funds for the wildfire relief efforts in Australia and the Seahawks twins for coming together and giving us a memorable post season moment. Ep 281281: Russell Wilson leads the Seahawks through Wild Card weekend

The Seahawks advance into the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs after their 17-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead of boosting their takeaway numbers, this time around they boost their sack numbers. While the numbers may say that Russell Wilson stayed clean in the pocket, it felt a lot different while watching the game. Ultimately, it was Russell Wilson leading the way for the Seahawks, both on the ground and through the air, and his biggest target downfield was rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf. While the overall numbers weren't impressive on the ground, Marshawn Lynch had three moments that stood out. Two of those moments involved Lynch driving defensive backs to the ground after catching a pass, and the other was a vintage Beast Mode run to get into the end zone. Adam and Brandan also discuss the Jadeveon Clowney hit on Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson's fourth quarter choices to go for touchdowns rather than field goals late in the game. Ep 280280: A game of inches - the Seahawks game that embodied the cliche

The regular season is over, and playoff football starts this weekend. Though a different outcome of the 26-21 loss to the 49ers wouldn't have changed the fact that the Seahawks would be playing on the first weekend, it does change the venue. About one inch could have made a huge difference. Not just for the Seahawks, but for the entire NFC playoff picture. A overdue episode this week as Brandan is traveling and Adam had a Jeep to fix that left him stranded out of recording range. The guys get into the biggest moments from the Week 17 game against the 49ers and look ahead to the matchup with the Eagles on Sunday. Ep 279279: The Beast is Alive and Well

For the 12 hours following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the emotions of Seahawks fans may have sunk to a season low. After the loss of Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise to injury in the matter of a few plays, Seattle fans were collectively asking the question if Marshawn Lynch was well enough to suit back up one more time in the blue and green. As things turned out, a return had already been in the works prior to Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Will the emotion of the move be enough to help motivate the Seahawks toward victory on Sunday? There is a lot for the Seahawks to overcome as Duane Brown is likely don't for the season and both Mike Iupati and Joey Hunt are hurt. Can an offensive line that allowed a huge day for Chandler Jones rebound against Nick Bosa and the other four first round picks on the stacked 49ers defensive line? On the other side of the ball, can Jadeveon Clowney return and have a similar performance to his game against the 49ers in Week 10? If Seattle is going to get to the quarterback, they're going to have to do so with their front four, because now George Kittle is back and is having a monster season. We take a look at both playoff scenarios with a win or loss in Week 17. Ep 278278: Seahawks versus the Arizona David Larry Johnson Fitzgeralds

With midweek news of the Josh Gordon and Al Woods suspensions, it takes us away from just how great this week started out following Sunday's game with the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks moved to 7-1 on the road, Pete Carroll won his 100th regular season game, Seattle took the top spot in the NFC away from the 49ers. Plus, they were able to get the win with having so many key injuries on defense. The Gordon suspended indefinitely and Woods out for four games, Brandan and Adam talk about which one will impact the team more moving forward. Seattle has a chance to finish the season at home now against the Cardinals at 49ers. Arizona has been a team with a history of winning late in the season at CenturyLink and Kyler Murray has improved as a passer since earlier this season. However, this game is relatively inconsequential in terms of winning the NFC West, so Seattle can afford to rest some key players in advance of the Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers. In other news, the Cardinals do have one of the NFL's top 100 players as Larry Fitzgerald was named one of the few active players to the list. The Seahawks now have two members of the top 100 as Steve Largent made the list along with Walter Jones. In the picks, congrats to BowDown2Young ! (not sure if the name was changed after the perfect week) Here is the full list of the Week 15 results Overall standings Subscribe via: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | TuneIn | RSS Follow us on: Facebook | Twitter Or listen on our free app for Android, iOS, Kindle or Windows Phone/PC Call or text: 253-235-9041 Email: [email protected] Support the show Get in the Flock! Ep 277277: The Decaf Metcalf Show

Turning the corner from Sunday's 28-12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, @Seahawkscrazy on Twitter helps out by taking the blame for the loss this past week. Shaquille Griffin mentioned after the game that the Seahawks needed to be taken down from their high horse they'd been riding on. Considering Seattle was coming off wins over the 49ers, a tough Eagles defense and a Monday night win over the Vikings, maybe they were due for the first road loss of the season. But did it have to come against the Rams when there is a game against the Panthers that could have served the same purpose? Despite their 5-8 record, there is a lot of talent on the Carolina Panthers team considering Christian McCaffery was being talked about as an MVP candidate earlier on this season. Quarterback Kyle Allen has come back to Earth after a show he put on earlier this season. The Panthers have a couple future Hall of Fame players on their defense, but have one of the league's worst teams against the run and that should allow Seattle to help get back on track after struggling to put up points on the Rams. Before the season started, one question we had was who would be taking over the Doug Baldwin role as Russell Wilson's favorite third down target. In 2012 it was Sidney Rice, Golden Tate took over in 2013 and then the next four years belonged to Doug Baldwin. Tyler Lockett looked like he would move into that spot considering he had it last year when Baldwin was injured, but that has not been the direction Wilson has gone the most on third down this season. In the second half of the show we talk about a couple of the latest roster moves for the Seahawks, we take a look at the latest controversy the Patriots have stepped into and we talk about the All-Time NFL Top 100 list and how Walter Jones could have the best chance for any Seahawks player to make that list. Ep 276276: Seahawks vs Rams quick reaction - Sleeping and jet sweeping

After debating the question all week about whether Seahawks fans should cheer for a 49ers loss or a Saints loss, we are left with what might have been the least desirable outcome - a loss for the Seahawks. Seattle lost to the Rams 28-12 in a way that we haven't seen from a Seahawks team in recent memory. A game where they didn't look like they came to play at any point in this game. After giving up 21 first half points, the defense was able to get two turnovers early in the 3rd quarter, but the offense wasn't able to move the ball. A big reason for that is how they were dominated in the trenches, and when Russell Wilson had time to throw the ball there were dropped passes, penalties and other annoyances that kept the offense from moving the ball. The good news is that the Seahawks still control their destiny and maybe this can be a wakeup call going into the next two weeks ahead of the Week 17 matchup with the Niners. Ep 275275: The Seahawks move into first place in the NFC West after win vs Vikings, 49ers loss to Ravens

For just the 12th time in franchise history, the Seattle Seahawks have now won 10 or more games. Russell Wilson has helped to make that happen as he has been the quarterback for 7 of those 12 double digit winning seasons. The latest 10 win season comes after a 37-30 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Although the Seahawks were down at halftime, it was clear the defense had Cousins, Cook and Diggs bottled up in the first half outside of the first and last drives of the first half. A huge third quarter propelled Seattle to a three-score lead in the fourth quarter, but as we've learned to expect, no lead is ever safe. Looking ahead to the Sunday Night Football game against the Rams, Seattle will look to continue their 3-0 prime time streak, Carroll's streak of undefeated games in prime time in December, and Pete's next win has a chance to be his 100th victory on a field that helped propel him back into the NFL as the coach for the Seahawks. To get the win the Seahawks will have to find a way to keep Aaron Donald in check, put pressure on Jared Goff and deal with a new piece of the Rams puzzle with Jalen Ramsey now at corner. Closing out the first half of the show, we discuss the injury that Jadeveon Clowney is dealing with and somewhat recent context of what Marshawn Lynch went through at the end of the 2015 season. It may be an injury that Clowney will decide to fight through until the offseason. In the second half of the show, we talk more about how the playoff picture is shaping up for the Seahawks. We also congratulate those who have won the last few weeks in the pick'em. Week 10 - Playoff Bound just Locket In - Week 10 standings Week 11 - Colchester Hawk - Week 11 standings Week 12 - Piggie0072 - Week 12 standings Week 13 - Ifedi's Gentle Shoves - Week 13 standings Do better nominees this week are for power rankings who consistently have the Seahawks at the bottom of the list of 10-2 teams in the NFL because of score differential and O.J. Ep 274274: Dalvin Cook gives the Vikings a style the Ravens, Saints had in their wins over the Seahawks

The Seahawks move to 9-2 on the season after this past Sunday's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles which puts them at 6-0 on the road. It matches their best mark in franchise history and they did it without the help of Jadeveon Clowney. We talk about the last time a core injury came up with a star player and how it impacted the Seahawks in the playoffs during the 2015 season. Even without Clowney, Seattle's pass rush was able to frustrate Carson Wentz who was dealing with a diminished offensive line and receiving corps. Rasheem Green had one of his best days as a member of the Seahawks and was instrumental in Al Woods getting a stat in the football deflation column. Rashaad Penny helped put the game away with a 58-yard run, but that didn't help to make Adam any less frustrated with the play from the running backs this past week. Looking ahead to the Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle faces a team in a similar mold of the last two football teams. The difference is that the Vikings have far superior weapons on offense with Dalvin Cook, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Seattle will be in their modified color rush jerseys which are reminiscent of the 2009 jerseys the Seahawks only wore once. Plus, Adam shares his concerns as well as his joy regarding the Rams getting thrashed in their color rush jerseys. We close out the show with a do better to the 49ers and their fans who might have to experience some inclement weather for a change in their game against the Ravens. While Better At Life carriers on the 49ers theme for some good causes that Richard Sherman has been a part of during the holiday season. Ep 273273: Playing with 'juice' vs playing with Carson Wentz, previewing Seahawks vs Eagles

It's been two years since the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl and many of us still have the feeling that they're a good team. The team continues to have a stacked roster. But then you look at the record of the Eagles and some of their losses as they sit at 5-5 on the season and you can't help but wonder what the issue is. How could a team that beat the 8-2 Packers lose to a Falcons team that only won a single game going into their bye week? The answer: juice. It's something we see from the Seahawks in how they play for one another and it's something that you don't get a sense of when watching the Eagles in those down weeks. We talk about how Philadelphia could be working through some of the same issues as the Seahawks faced after their Super Bowl, but it was a decision at the quarterback spot that could have impacted the team. So how does one predict what could happen in a game against a team that has the ability to be very good or very bad. Brandan calls out Google in the Do Better segment and Adam has something for everyone on either side of the Colin Kaepernick workout. Lamar Jackson is leading the Pro Bowl vote and deserves a Better at Life nod and we close out the show with a Better at Life for the Flock for their help in donating half a ton of turkey to families in need on Thanksgiving. Ep 272272: Three is the overtime charm for the Seahawks, the return of Pete Prisco

The Seahawks go into overtime for a second straight week and it didn't have to be that way. The Seahawks offense had a chance to draw the game down to a final field goal in regulation, and that was after multiple plays went the 49ers way that kept the game from being a Seattle landslide. Once again, it was a slow start on offense for Seattle as they didn't score on offense until the second half and needed a short field to do it on multiple occasions. The 49ers defense showed up, but so did the Seahawks and Jadeveon Clowney. Adam is back from his long road trip and in his usual studio and saw a series of play calling that he enjoyed much more than what he saw against the Tampa Bay Bucs. We try and get to all of the biggest moments of the game, from huge plays by the 49ers to strip DK Metcalf, the interceptions or missed interceptions that could have sealed the game, and Russell Wilson who made the play in the end to set up Jason Myers for the game-winning score. Following the game, Pete Prisco gave us some material for a return to Prisco's World as he makes some head scratching moves in his weekly power rankings. We talk about how the Rams may be in serious trouble now in the division after losing on the road to the Steelers, and a 49ers fan emailed in before the game to give his prediction for the Monday Night Football outcome. The second half of the show discusses the shift from next Sunday's prime time game to an early morning start as the NFL moves the Packers and Niners into the spot Seattle previously held. A big welcome to our newest members of the flock from getintheflock.com and seahawkerspodcast.com/support. In do better we take a look at some commentary from First Take and one of the latest reports from the fallout of Thursday Night Football. Ep 271271: Sit back and continue to enjoy the Russell Wilson show

There were some things to like in last Sunday's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Russell Wilson notched is fourth "stat" of this season. He's never had more than four during the regular season in his career, so with the Seahawks going into a really touch stretch in their final seven weeks of the schedule, the expectation is that he should be able to reach his personal best. There were also some things not to like about the last game. Jason Myers missed three kicks, the defense had a hard time stopping a quarterback who may be in his last year with the team, and Adam took issue with how the game was called in certain situations. Two guys you can't be mad at after this game were Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. In the win, Metcalf had the fourth best game of any Seahawks rookie receiver, behind only Brian Blades, Doug Baldwin and Steve Largent. There's still a chance for him to improve his position and continue to lead all NFL rookie receivers. Looking ahead to the matchup with the 49ers, Russell Wilson is facing one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL and a group of corners who are playing well against the pass. Considering how the 49ers have been playing, the guys address if this feels like a must-win game if Seattle wants to finish on top of the NFC West. Adam is still on travel and dialing in on the hotel phone and we get to hear of an encounter on Bourbon Street that led to Adam taking a bottle to the face. Brandan takes issue with an NFL Network graphic highlighting the MVP candidates. Better at life honors go out to a study that called out his least favorite NBA team and Brandan has a pro tip for Veteran's Day on Monday. Ep 270270: The Seahawks defense has a YAC problem, but Coach Carroll prefers other base defense stats

This week we're talking Seahawks football as Adam dials in during his drive across Nebraska to discuss the Seahawks 27-20 win over the Falcons. But even in victory, there were questions that came up about how far the Seattle defense can carry this team as it's currently operating. Coach Carroll, in his weekly press conference, talked about how the team his ranking high on stopping opponents on third down. Seattle is also among the top teams in the league when it comes to holding teams to field goals or no points inside the red zone. However, one of the stats that jumps off the page is the number of yards after the catch (YAC) the Seahawks are giving up and which players the opposing pass catchers appear to be targeting most. So does this test the mantra the show has stuck with consistently that yards don't matter? Thanks to Ron Evans from the How Bizarre podcast for helping support our reminder with a show jingle. We also look ahead to the Sunday matchup with the Bucs and if quarterback Jameis Winston will continue turning the ball over especially considering how turnover prone Seattle has been in its two losses at home. Thanks to associate producer Flocktimus Prime for his lyrical stylings with a Tom Petty parody tune that calls out anyone who isn't part of the podcast flock. And thanks to Montana and Nebraska for being states that give us a reason to call them out in the do better segment. Ep 269269: Seahawks trade for safety help, Russell can build on his bounce-back win stat vs Falcons

With the NFL Trade deadline still a few days away, the Seahawks have made a trade with the Detroit Lions to bring in Quandre Diggs to help with the struggling safety group. Adam and Brandan evaluate the trade as well as how the roster is currently constructed on defense. Detroit Lions fans appear to be upset about the trade and they've found one of the better online reactions to play on the show. Looking back to the Ravens game, Adam points out the turning point where things really started to go downhill for the Seahawks and the moment wasn't the Russell Wilson interception (which may have taken Russ out of the MVP discussion now that he's no longer perfect on the season). One thing Wilson is - one of the best at coming back and getting a win the week after taking a loss. But it's possible, based on what we've seen from the team previously, is that this could be another frustrating victory. In the second half of the show, we welcome some new members of the flock, read some email that came in from the past week and discuss a potential trade target for the defensive line. Do better call outs go to a high school coach who lost his job over some serious integrity issues, and to the Jets for whining about Darnold's audio that was broadcast during the game. Better at life honors go to Shaq for his help given to an Atlanta family and to John Schneider for his latest trade Topics discussed: Seahawks trade 2020 5th round pick for Quandre Diggs (1:12) Is there any trade on defense that would be a surprise? Ep 268268: Russell Wilson has Tom Brady in his sights, Earl Thomas returns, and Prisco's World's collide

After another outstanding performance by Russell Wilson on Sunday, we take some time kicking off this week's episode with a look at some of the milestones that Russ has reached so far and one on the horizon that Tom Brady has held for about 10 years. We also look at one of the position groups that is playing at a high level that maybe didn't have the highest expectations coming into the 2019 season. And looking back at the Browns game, we highlight two of the top plays that should make the year-end highlight reel. Since it seems as though everyone wants to point fingers at the officials, we find a list from a Browns fan who details his biggest officiating complaints and we go down the list on the ones we agree and disagree with. Moving beyond that we look ahead to the Sunday matchup with the Baltimore Ravens and discuss Earl Thomas and the move we probably won't see from Pete Carroll when he sees ET3 back at CenturyLink for the first time. This episode may mark the final time that we visit Prisco's World, because now the lines are blurring of whether or not we're living in his world or he's living in ours. We hear from little mch, and Adam asks the question of what it might take to get Von Miller on the Seahawks. In the Do Better segment Adam goes after People Magazine, and Brandan goes after a new term that's getting a lot of attention based on the poor officiating. Better at life honors go to the Rams general manager for continuing to make bad moves and to the Seattle Dragons for picking up two former Seahawks receivers who were fan favorites. Topics include: Russell Wilson's growing list of accomplishments (1:34) Wide receiver group has been impressive (4:15) Two favorite plays from the Browns game (12:50) Russell Wilson has one thing left to perfect (16:50) Browns fan complaints about the refs (21:46) Best team of the AFC North coming to Seattle next (30:26) Ravens get Marcus Peters in Rams trade flurry (34:53) Past matchups with the Baltimore Ravens (37:50) Seahawks defense matching up against the Ravens offense (40:08) Earl Thomas returns to CenturyLink (45:35) Ravens 2003 comeback against the Seahawks in Baltimore (48:22) Are we now living in Prisco's World? Ep 267267: Seahawks vs. Browns - Ride or die. Ride or die.

Through six weeks of the season, the Seahawks are now 5-1 and have as many wins as the San Francisco 49ers who are leading the division after their win on Sunday over the Rams. But is it starting to feel like Russell Wilson and Chris Carson are Brian and Dom from Fast and Furious? If these are the two guys we're going to ride or die with this season, we're happy to be on board, but at some point it would be nice to see some pressure from the defensive line. Is that something we'll be able to see with the return of Jarran Reed? The defense was making plays in terms of turnovers in this game. The Seahawks defense needed three interceptions, one forced fumble and a goal line stand to hold the Browns to 28 points. On top of that they needed Wilson and Carson to be the dominant duo we've come to expect this season. Russell adds two more touchdowns through the air, while he and Carson share their pair of rushing TDs. Looking over at the Rams loss to the 49ers. We take a peek at San Francisco's schedule over their final 11 games of the season. Could the Seahawks face a 8-0 49ers team in Week 10? And although the Rams are reeling after a three-game losing streak, the next three games look pretty favorable. Let's see if our Seahawks can continue to keep pace and ultimately take the lead in the NFC West. Ep 266266: Russell Wilson emerges as MVP candidate, win at Cleveland would match Seahawks best road start

Nearly a week after the Seahawks game, Brandan and Adam help re-live some of the top moments from the game by pulling up the Steve Raible highlights. Will Dissly and DK Metcalf had two of the longest catches on the day, while Tyler Lockett and Tedrick Thompson competed for who had the most spectacular catch. In previewing the upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns, we take a look at the pass rushers and how the Seahawks are going from a defensive line full of players who can cause the Seahawks problems to one or two players who are disruptive on the Browns defensive line. The Browns secondary has been struggling with injury issues, but could get two of their young players back this week. On the offensive side of the ball, the Seahawks need to stop the run to have success and just how poorly has Mayfield performed while under pressure? After the break, we look at some of the history between the Seahawks and Browns and how the Seahawks could match a road record that goes all the way back to 1980 with a win in Cleveland on Sunday. This week's 'Do Better' segment features Ziggy Ansah and a variety of backup options that were available to the Steelers on Sunday instead of a motorized cart. We close the show by honoring the Seahawks general manager as well as NFL analyst David Carr for appropriately vaulting Russell Wilson to the appropriate spot in his offensive player rankings. Topics discussed: The play that set up the Seahawks first touchdown (4:03) Tyler Lockett continues to make the Baldwin plays (6:26) DK Metcalf finds the end zone once again (9:45) National media finally recognizing Russell as an MVP candidate (11:48) Potential for a new QB Advanced Stat (15:35) Clowney helps the Seahawks win the turnover battle (19:46) Seahawks win in the red zone (22:44) Rooting for the 49ers versus the Rams (24:48) Sunday's matchup versus the Browns (26:11) A look at Cleveland's pass rush (27:36) What stood out from the Browns game versus the 49ers (31:41) Will the Browns get their two top corners back for this game? Ep 265265: Clowney has his first big moment vs Arizona, Seahawks efforts in the red zone are key vs Rams

The Seahawks finish the month of September at 3-1 with Sunday's victory over the Arizona Cardinals. They earn their first win over an NFC West rival and now they have the chance to do the same thing on a short week against the Los Angeles Rams. The guys preview the matchup against these hated rivals and Adam explains how a win here goes a long way to shifting the balance of power back toward the Seahawks in the division. Before we get to the Rams discussion, Adam discovers what he has learned about the different running styles between Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny and how Carson maintains his balance while taking big hits. Jadeveon Clowney has his first signature moment as a member of the Seahawks in the win against Arizona. Also, the Seahawks have two players among the leaders in end zone targets. However, only one of those players has multiple touchdown conversions. With the Rams coming to town, it looks like they've taken a step back from previous seasons in some respects, but can Pete Carroll finally figure out how he wants to defend the Rams offense after being so close last season. The biggest concerns are the Rams defensive line as well as their wide receiving corps, though Shaquill Griffin seems to be taking a big step toward being a star. We cut the show a bit short this week as the Cardinals are called out to do better and the Seahawks tight end from Montana earns a nod in Better at Life for his unselfish touchdown celebration on Sunday. Topics include: Seahawks vs Cardinals as a quick summary (1:13) Adam explains the different run styles between Carson and Penny (4:20) What to expect from the Seahawks run game versus the Rams (5:56) Two Seahawks among NFL leaders in red zone targets (8:21) Jadeveon Clowney has his first signature moment for the Seahawks (12:27) Previewing the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks (16:31) The Los Angeles Rams and their favorite play to run (22:12) How a win Thursday puts the Seahawks in position for the division crown (30:21) The Rams defensive line vs the Seahawks offensive line is a huge concern (31:37) Shaquill Griffin taking next step toward defensive stardom (36:27) The Seahawks have a statistical edge in key areas through four games (40:27) The Seahawks are better when playing in their base defense (44:27) Paul Allen to become the 12th member of the Seahawks Ring of Honor (51:13) We really screwed up last week (53:25) Week 4 Pickem results (54:12) Called out for missing out on a show tradition after loss to the Saints (56:35) Do Better: Arizona Cardinals and their Ring of Honor (1:01:14) Better at Life: Will Dissly knows how to celebrate TDs (1:07:42) Subscribe via: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | TuneIn | RSS Follow us on: Facebook | Twitter Or listen on our free app for Android, iOS, Kindle or Windows Phone/PC Call or text: 253-235-9041 Email: [email protected] Support the show Get in the Flock! Ep 264264: Every aggressive Seahawks play call backfires, yet another reminder that yards don't matter

As Seahawks fans are coping with the first September loss at home in the Pete Carroll era, Adam and Brandan are looking for who to blame. When the opposing team scores in every phase of the game and you need more than one hand to count some of the questionable coaching moves in the game, the answer is clear. But a majority of those coaching calls came down to playing an aggressive style of football. Except for a decision to not call timeout at the end of the first half and a decision to not go for a two-point conversion late in the game. Those calls are still a bit tough to explain. Luke Willson is back on the team for the Seahawks and says that Techno Thursday will return, but Bobby Wagner may be the wet blanket that keeps that as something of the past. Russell Wilson threw for more than 400 yards and demonstrated once again how yards don't matter. The guys preview Sunday's matchup with the Cardinals and what to expect from Arizona's offense through the first few games. In the closing segments of the show, Brandan calls out a Redskins employee in charge of Gatorade and Adam says the NFL went too far by banning pyrotechnics. Better at life nods go to a young Seahawks fan who made a trip out to Seattle and to Nelson Agholor for inviting a critical fan to an upcoming game. Topics discussed: Who to blame for the first loss of the season (2:17) Michael Dickson having a sophomore slump (4:58) Seven coaching decisions that made a difference (6:45) Excitement for the return of Luke Willson to the Seahawks (8:12) Seahawks timeout blunder at the end of the first half (10:54) Why weren't the Saints called for offensive pass interference (15:38) Adam rants on what the Seahawks should do on 4th and short (18:27) Russell Wilson throws for more than 400 yards (24:43) No noticeable pass rush versus the Saints (26:42) Adam proposes a new rule for using the term undefeated (32:14) What's the importance of a Week 4 win against Arizona (33:52) What to look for with the Cardinals offense (37:34) Why isn't the Cardinals offensive line better with this style offense (39:51) Chandler Jones and the Cardinals defense (41:37) Prosise may be making a move for RB1 (46:27) Seahawks transactions (51:35) Welcome to the Flock (55:51) Week 3 Pickem Winner (58:31) Do Better: Redskins employee stirring Gatorade (1:15:45) Do Better: A blanket ban on pyrotechnics (1:18:48) Better at life: Seahawks fan Griffin Cherniss (1:22:20) Better at life: Nelson Agholor (1:24:51) Subscribe via: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Stitcher | TuneIn | RSS Follow us on: Facebook | Twitter Or listen on our free app for Android, iOS, Kindle or Windows Phone/PC Call or text: 253-235-9041 Email: [email protected] Support the show Get in the Flock! Ep 263263: Jalen Ramsey trade intrigue, Saints without Brees still a threat for 2-0 Seahawks

After a 28-26 victory on Sunday, Russell Wilson, for just the second time in his career, is taking the a 2-0 Seahawks team into Week 3 of the NFL season. On top of that, Pete Carroll and the Seahawks are 15-0 at home in September and they're coming back home to take on the New Orleans Saints. Adam and Brandan talk about the Wilson's dominant performance against the Steelers and why Seahawks fans can likely expect another close game even though the Saints will be without future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. As part of the NFL's 100th season, the Seahawks are taking votes for the top play in the history of the team. Is the number one spot an easy decision? According to the early returns, there are two plays that are dominating the votes. Closing out the show, Adam has words for a Canadian who tried to fight a grizzly bear and Brandan joins a former Seahawks running back in his frustration over throwback jerseys. Adam honors a team of scientists who came up with an breakthrough idea for a lunar elevator. Brandan highlights a college football fan's desire for beer money that turned into an amazing fundraiser for kids. Ep 262262: DK Metcalf's record performance vs Cincinnati and how a road win is key to a Super Bowl victory

With less than 36 hours before a Week 2 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, have Seahawks fans had enough time to cool off after a narrow victory over the Cincinnati Bengals? There were some frustrating moments in this game, but the team was able to pull out the win and the defense was able to hold their opponent to just three points in the second half. Seahawks fans can be excited that DK Metcalf lived up to the hype by breaking a record held by the greatest wide receiver in Seahawks history. The Steelers are coming off an embarrassing loss to New England, and historically that was been bad news for their opponents when they play at home the following week. What could the Seahawks have learned from that performance against the Patriots both in terms of attacking the Steelers defense and the key to slowing down Big Ben early in this game. Ep 261261: Seahawks trade for Jadeveon Clowney to kick off the season and no 2019 draft pick gets cut

The 2019 NFL season has officially arrived and the Seahawks started with a huge move and building up what looked like one of their biggest weaknesses in the preseason. Jadeveon Clowney is now a member of the Seahawks and eventually Adam will learn how to pronounce his name. Brandan and Adam take a look at the surprises of the 53-man man roster and give credit to the Seahawks general manager John Schneider for making some significant moves to start the season, but also landing all of his 2019 draft picks. Not a single one was cut, although two head to the PUP list to start the season. Ep 260260: Hype around possible Jadeveon Clowney trade to the Seahawks, preseason week 3 frustrations

With the Seahawks pass rush looking like a potential weakness for the team, this week's show focuses on the hype around a possible trade for Jadeveon Clowney and why it makes a lot of sense for the team. We talk about one of the most frustrating parts of the Sehawks 23-15 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, and we spend time talking about one of the biggest surprises in recent NFL history with Andrew Luck's announcement to retire from football. Topics include: Report of Jadeveon Clowney's interest in the Dolphins, Eagles and Seahawks (2:46) Why a Jadeveon Clowney trade would work out well for the Seahawks (9:19) Reactions to the Seahawks win 23-15 over the Los Angeles Chargers (14:17) Adam makes a case for trading George Fant (18:34) The most frustrating aspect to preseason week 3 (19:13) The six WRs who will make the 53-man roster (24:18) Will Poona Ford be the Seahawks fullback? Ep 259259: Seahawks show improved o-line play in loss to Vikings, problems with secondary and injuries

The Seattle Seahawks lost 25-19 against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 of the preseason game on Sunday. Despite coming out on the losing end, Adam talks about how he views it as a win when considering how fans got to see Russell Wilson with time behind his offensive line. Even Ethan Pocic, the least experienced of the offensive lineman, showed improvement over last season. While Wilson played only a limited number of series before handing the ball to Paxton Lynch, the vanilla style of preseason play was far less tasty with the former first round pick at the helm. Poona Ford was a bright spot on the defensive line. Chris Carson looked like his dominant self and contrasted to the hesitation seen as Rashaad Penny had trouble getting going behind the second team offensive line. Hopefully, we see what Penny can do behind the starters when the Seahawks play the Chargers on Saturday. The Seahawks corners were not dominant versus one of the top receiving tandems in the league, but it did give Coach Carroll a chance to learn what to consider when throwing a challenge flag on a non-call of offensive pass interference. The guys talk through the new ability to challenge calls through the lens of a past non-call by officials. For those looking to join our annual pickem league, and haven't already, you can go to seahawkerspodcast.com/pickem, use the League ID of 18882 and entry code of shp12. Hopefully someone has a contact with Yahoo, because the issue of having to combine groups now could end up being a challenge. To close out the show we find out that the Rams now have a possible acronym for their top corners. Instead of LOB, they can be the POMCB. Kirk Cousins' complaints about his center's sweaty backside have been voiced and Adam suggests possible testing of SAW at the combine to help avoid this issue in the future. Tune in to learn about all these new acronyms. Ep 258258: Cutting down the Vikings and other NFC opponents, revisiting the six phases of football

The Seahawks face off against the Vikings on Saturday and are coming off their annual preseason win over the Broncos (though they didn't play them last year until the regular season). We discuss some of the things that stood out from the Broncos game and how that performance by Paxton Lynch didn't excited Adam at all about the potential for solidifying the backup spot behind Russell Wilson. Talking about the Vikings gets Adam to the point of cutting down just about every other NFC team that he can think of who might be considered contenders. Brandan talks about the Zeke Elliott contract situation and how this could be a preview of what to expect for a running back like Chris Carson who could be forced into a similar situation because running backs have to try and get paid before they start to approach 30 years old. Thanks to Kofi for posting a great video that is best to be watched and not listened to, because he adds to the production value, check it out on YouTube here: Sea Hawkers Podcast, Top 5 Adam Emmert Rants We talk about where we've been over the past week, how to get into the pick'em league this year, and after welcoming some new members of the flock we talk about what to expect from the show this season with Adam's increased in-season workload. Russell Wilson gets a do better nod for his latest hairstyle in a recent video as Adam goes after the hotel he's in for not having a functioning elevator. Adam gives some positive recognition to one of the first places he worked in his current profession and Brandan honors Russell Wilson to close out the show for his latest investment into the Seattle sports scene. Officially kicking off the 2019 season of the podcast with our annual "season expectations" show. Adam and Brandan talk about where they have questions and concerns and what to expect from the team this year in terms of play calling on offense and, even with some big departures, why the defense will continue to be in the top half of the league for points allowed. One thing that is much different from past seasons is that there are more concerns on defense than the offense, particularly because the offensive line seems to be solidified and relatively unchanged from the previous year. Fans can also expect the coordinator to have a better feel for the offense, something it took Brian Schottenheimer time to get a feel for last season. On defense, Adam says that although the defensive line has some of the bigger questions with injuries and suspensions, he's more concerned about the defensive backs. Brandan is concerned about where the turnovers are going to come from this season, because that was one of the biggest reasons for the team's success on that side of the ball last year. In the second half (final third?) of the show the guys have a solution for the continued complaint surrounding the microphones at the preseason press conferences. We also talk about the status of Michael Kendricks going into the season. Do better nods go to "the Skynet of bars" and to Mina Kimes for going to the dark side of the force for at least the preseason. Better at life honors go to a North Koreans soldier who Shawshank-ed his way to South Korea and to Bobby Wagner for his new deal keeping him in Seattle through 2022. Ep 256256: Los Angeles Rams - Know Your Rival, with James and Bear of the Rams Podcast

There's still time left to nominate the Sea Hawkers Podcast in the Sports category of the 14th Annual Podcast Awards. Go to podcastawards.com to register and submit for our show to compete as the top sports podcast. As the Seahawks open up training camp for 2019, we're finishing up the offseason Know Your Rival series with last year's winner of the NFC West, the Los Angeles Rams. Adam is back to provide his commentary on a team that we may have more sports hate for than any other franchise. James and Bear from the Rams Podcast and Locked on Rams join the show to break down the key departures and additions on defense that add years of experience to a team that struggled against the run in 2018. Of course one of the biggest questions this year is how running back Todd Gurley will respond after it was revealed that he has a knee injury that could become a big issue for the team if he's not able to maintain his health. Also, Jared Goff is in the fourth year of his contract, and we just watched Carson Wentz get a deal from the Eagles. How do Rams fans feel about paying Goff moving forward? To close out the show, a team of researchers identified the worst fan base in the NFL according to their scientific methods, which earn them a spot as a research team that is better at life than Skip Bayless. Ep 255255: San Francisco 49ers - Know Your Rival, with Oscar of the Better Rivals Podcast

**Note: It's that time of year when you can nominate the Sea Hawkers Podcast in the Sports category of the 14th Annual Podcast Awards. Go to podcastawards.com to register and submit for our show to compete as the top sports podcast. Continuing our Know Your Rival series, this week we discuss the third place team from the NFC West in 2018. The San Francisco 49ers are hoping for a full season out of their starting quarterback this year after losing him early in the season due to an injury. Oscar of the Better Rivals podcast joins us to let us know that Handsome Jimmy will be expected to run out of bounds this year. We start by taking a look at the defense, and the 49ers have a clear strength on their defensive line with five first round picks including the number two overall pick in 2019. We discuss whether it will be enough to make up for some of the deficiencies in the secondary and where some of the biggest concerns are when it comes to San Francisco's defense. Special teams also has a number of questions considering their franchise kicker is holding out and we get Oscar's take on selecting a punter in the fourth round of the draft. To top it all off, their long snapper got popped for PED use! On offense, they looked for more help at wide receiver early on in the draft as well as through free agency. The have a strong group of running backs and a competent offensive line. Will that line be able to keep Jimmy healthy enough for a full season and will the young receivers develop into a solid unit. We get Oscar's take on all of the new faces. After backing up their talk (and also my talk last week) the U.S. Women are World Cup Champions and earn the Better at Life honors on this week's show. Ep 254254: Arizona Cardinals - Know Your Rival, with Bo Brack of Locked on Cardinals

An annual tradition for the show kicks off this week as we bring on fellow podcasters from rival NFC West teams in the month of July. This year we kick things off with the team that finished at the bottom of the division, but a team that may have the most intriguing offseason. Bo Brack of the Locked on Cardinals podcast joins the show to talk about a team that had made a lot of moves this offseason. Not only have they made moves in free agency, but they had the first overall draft pick with Kyler Murray. With 2018 Seahawks backup quarterback Brett Hundley as the only other QB seemingly providing competition at the spot in Arizona this year, it looks as though Murray is a lock to be the Week 1 starter. Brandan and Bo talk about any concerns about making sure Murray has a more veteran presence to try and overcome to ensure he really earns that starting spot. With Patrick Peterson suspended for the first six games of the season, including the first matchup with the Seahawks in week 4, it looks as though former Huskies corner Byron Murphy could be lining up as a starter. Bo explains why the schedule lines up favorably for the second round pick to ease his way into the starting role. After breaking down each position, the guys gets into what really matters, ranking the most handsome coaches in the NFC West. Kingsbury joins a division with Carroll, Shanahan and McVay, which clearly makes the West a lock for the best looking group of head coaches in the league. We also make Bo predict the finishing order for each of the teams in the NFC West. Lastly, we recognize former Seahawks owner Ken Behring who passed away this week at the age of 91. After he sold the team to Paul Allen, Behring went on to be involved with some philanthropic endeavors that earn him Better at Life honors for this week. Ep 253253: The too early 53-man Seahawks roster prediction

This week is a crossover episode with The Seahawks Nest podcast as co-host Nathan joins this show to break down the Seattle Times' early look at a potential 53-man roster. There isn't much controversy apart from wondering why George Fant isn't listed among the tight ends and trying to decide which backups in different position groups could be slotted to play quarterback behind Russell Wilson. One of the marks of a solid roster is seeing players who are potential cuts who have spent significant time with the team or other veterans who could be overtaken on the roster by some of the younger players. The guys talk about which areas of the roster appear to present the most strength with that regard and which part of the roster seems to have the least depth. Last week's show looked at some of the negative aspects of each of the rookies on the roster, and this week we talk about the rookies that Nathan is most excited about, both in the short term and long term. We also look at Pete Prisco's top 100 for this year. With only two Seahawks players making the list, who got snubbed and who could we expect to see jumping onto the list next season. In second segment of the show, the guys look at the NFL's rule change for pass interference in the 2019 season and close the show with a segment from The Seahawks Nest as Nathan and Brandan talk about some of their favorite movie crossovers. Ep 252252: Why every 2019 Seahawks draft pick is a bust

This week we kick off the show with some of the discussions coming out of OTAs and mini camp interviews. Rashaad Penny talked about having to learn how to be a professional and several players have talked about changes they've made in the offseason. The guys talk about what some of the differences could be from the professional game to the college game and why players like Shaquille Griffin are talking about changing the way they eat. We're still waiting for Bobby Wagner to get paid, and while Carson Wentz gets his big pay from the Eagles, the guys talk about what that might mean for Jared Goff and the Rams. Also, with the Seahawks having nearly $30 million in cap space are they to a point where fans should be concerned that new ownership is less willing to spend up to the salary cap? Not all of the rookies are going to be amazing, so we're going to take some time this week to point out why each one of the Seahawks draft picks could end up being a bust. From L.J. Collier's lack of knees that bend to John Ursua allowing the football to beat him up, we point out what scouts have said as to why each player could fail in the NFL. Ultimately, we talk about which Seahawks rookie will be the biggest disappointment and that is most likely going to fall on the shoulders of DK Metcalf. Not because he's legitimately going to be bad, but because the expectations are so high for him that it's unlikely for him to get the kind of stats that people seem to be expecting from him. Adam talks about how he's now dealing with life with smart speakers his house, as he has a Do Better to offer this week and Brandan thanks the past and current Seahawks players who showed up to the Sea Hawkers Annual Banquet last weekend with Better at Life honors this week. Ep 251251: Nesby Glasgow, former Seattle Seahawks safety

Nesby Glasgow, former Seattle Seahawks safety from 1988 to 1992 returns to the show and talks about his 14 year NFL career that came after a college career with the Washington Huskies and ended back in Seattle. As a 14 year NFL veteran who played until he was 35, we talk about the surprise of the offseason that Doug Baldwin is leaving the game at a relatively young age. We start the show by talking about his experience with the NFL draft and how an injury in the Senior Bowl dropped him down into the 8th round of the 1979 NFL Draft. With college players opting not to play in certain games leading up to the draft, Glasgow offers his perspective on the particular game he would be sure not to miss out on. Glasgow played for former Seahawks head coach Chuck Knox, who passed away last offseason, and he talks about how Knox was the greatest coach he played for and shares a story about how Coach Knox decided to celebrate after one of the team's big wins. He also shares a story about how the team got in the head of Bo Jackson in the final game of the 1988 season that earned the team its first AFC West Division title. Seattle went on to lose to the Bengals in the playoffs who represented the AFC in the Super Bowl that year against Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Concussions in the NFL continue to be a concern, and a particular concern to Glasgow who is now 62 years old, he says some recent changes to the offseason could actually be detrimental to current NFL players. As we reach a middle point of the offseason, Glasgow talked about his preparation and how he feels it set him apart from others in the NFL. Ep 250250: Bobby Wagner's contract status and the first week of Seahawks OTAs

The 2019 season feels like it's just starting to kick off as the entire team gets together for their first week of organized team activities (OTAs). The status of Bobby Wagner's contract seemed to be the main concern as well as how he might handle the negotiations without the help of an agent. In the case of Wagner, it would seem like the negotiations should be relatively easy considering he's the top player in the entire NFL at his position. The biggest concern for the team going into this upcoming season seems to be at defensive line and Gerald McCoy sounds as though the Seahawks aren't on his list of teams to visit now that he's a free agent. Tampa Bay replaces him with the former Rams interior defender, and McCoy is going to Cleveland and Baltimore for visits. It does sound like the Seahawks are considering some other options to help with their pass rush, and one player is already on the team. With a shorter show this week, Adam calls out any graduation prior to high school and Brandan thanks a writer for the Athletic for pointing out an amazing factoid with regard to Doug Baldwin's personal life. Ep 249249: Doug Baldwin retirement denial, Seahawks sign Ziggy Ansah

The Seahawks made a transaction this week that hit a lot of Seahawks fans hard. Doug Baldwin, along with Kam Chancellor, were released from the team with a failed physical designation. The guys talk about what Baldwin meant for the Seahawks in his career and how he'll be missed for a little while, but Adam seems to think he's not gone for good. It could be that both Brandan and Adam are in Baldwin retirement denial. There was some good news, however, as Seahawks free agency appeared to start this week with Ziggy Ansah being signed to the team along with another veteran defensive lineman Al Woods. Ansah is a former Pro Bowl player who has fought through some injuries the past few seasons and let go by the Lions after suffering an injury during the season he played under the franchise tag. Seattle may have even found their new third string quarterback with Geno Smith coming in for a visit this week amidst reports that he is expected to sign with the team. Thanks to DCH and to Dustin this week along with other thank yous this week. Adam is on travel, so we get to hear about his latest airline misadventures in the Do Better segment along with a Miami Dolphins running back who is leading the NFL in an offseason stat that is going to be tough to break. Better at life honors this week go to a group from Adam's airline misadventures and to, now a former Seahawks receiver, Doug Baldwin. Ep 248248: The Seattle Seahawks 2019 Draft Class

Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze take a look at the Seahawks 2019 Draft Class and all 11 picks from General Manager John Schneider and Head Coach Pete Carroll. With about a week to go before the draft, the Seahawks had a franchise low four picks, by the time the day was complete they were just one pick short of having the most selections of the entire draft (the Vikings had 12). The guys talk about which picks they're most excited about, which ones might be the most likely to surprise us, and listen in to some of the best phone calls from the first couple days of the draft. While there were some obvious themes to the draft, Adam points to one that is a little more under the radar, but when you hear some of the interviews with the players, it becomes pretty clear that the Seahawks were looking beyond what they saw on the field from their players. After looking at Seattle's draft, Adam talks about the quarterbacks from the draft as part of his annual breakdown of who he thinks will succeed in the NFL. Tune in to find out who is behind a portable power station that needs to do better, along with the rankings that say the Seahawks didn't get enough "value" in the 2019 draft. Ep 247247: The Frank Clark trade and how it impacts the Seahawks in the 2019 NFL Draft

With only four selections going into the 2019 NFL Draft and looking at the prospect of paying defensive end Frank Clark upwards of $20 million per year, the Seattle Seahawks made a move this week. It's a move that increases the number of picks in 2019 to five, the add a second round pick in 2020, and they save about $17 million against the salary cap by making the move. But it creates a hole that Seattle will need to fill either through the draft or free agency. Brandan Schulze and Clinton Bonner talk about the trade, how it impacts the draft, and which players in free agency that Seattle could get to fill behind Clark. Having two draft picks at the end of the first round gives them options now to either stay put with the 21st pick overall or move back and compile picks in the second and third rounds where there is a lot of depth to help fill positions of need for Seattle. Ep 246246: The Seahawks break even on the 2019 Schedule

In what has become an annual tradition, Dave Bloomquist (aka Hong Kong Hawk) joins the show to break down the Seahawks 2019 schedule in a unique way. In past seasons, Dave has pointed out how the Seahawks often get dealt a tough hand by giving Seattle's opponents more rest, particularly in big games leading up to home games in Seattle. This year, the Seahawks actually break even overall. Even though the story is that it's better than usual, there are some rough parts of the schedule. But with five prime time games, the fact that the Seahawks start the season off at home, and they get a bye in Week 11, even Dave can't find a lot to be mad about this season. In addition to breaking down the Seahawks schedule, Dave tells us why the Green Bay Packers got, by far, the worst schedule in the league and which one of the NFC West division rivals was gifted one of the top 3 overall schedules. This was a fun conversation! Unfortunately, it started off on the wrong foot with me sending a jolt of static electricity into the system via the headphone jack, which knocked out the computer and the phone lines right in the middle of Anthony's previous interview, but we turned it into nearly a half hour of Seahawks talk with the Russell Wilson contract, my draft crush going into next week and a look at the prime time games I'd like to see on the schedule.

Ep 245245: The NFL's Annual League Meeting, rule changes, free agency and how to overhaul a middling franchise

Michael-Shawn Dugar of the Athletic and the Seahawks Man 2 Man Podcast joins the show this week to talk about the NFL's Annual League Meeting down in Arizona and his encounter with coach Pete Carroll who is challenging the popular opinion of the most important meal of the day. Brandan and Mike talk about the departure of Earl Thomas and how the best move the Seahawks made was to stay away from paying high-priced free agents. A couple big takeaways from the meetings in Arizona is just how reactionary the league continues to be when it comes to changing the rules. Pass interference is now reviewable and we may see a change down the road to how playoff games are handled in overtime after Tom Brady quickly scored on the Chiefs to send New England to another Super Bowl. Sam Marcoux, co-host of the Perfectville Podcast, jumps on later in the show to talk about his feelings on the change to make pass interference calls reviewable. He clearly still holds a grudge against Doug Baldwin after the Seahawks beat Miami back in 2016. What will be some of the consequences of the rule change? The guys talk about expectations of increased game time, how coaches will save their challenges specifically for pass interference calls, and maybe some increases in seeing offensive pass interference calls. The hope of course is that the implementation results in making sure the calls on the field are correct. While we don't often talk about the Dolphins on the show, Miami can show Seahawks fans just how difficult it can be to replace a franchise quarterback. Ryan Tannehill is now out and at least Dolphins fans are starting to see a plan in place for having a tough year or two with the potential that they can be this year's Cleveland Browns sometime in the near future. Ep 243243: Day 4 of the NFL Combine (defensive backs) with Rob Staton, Seahawks Draft Blog

Before discussing some better than expected performances, particularly at safety, a few news items jumped out in the news today as the Seahawks reportedly met with Kyler Murray at the combine. Rob Staton from seahawksdraftblog.com is back on the show to remind us why that was a smart move even with Russell Wilson locked in at quarterback. Wilson is going into his final year and Joel Corry said on KJR Monday that Russell's contract will need to start around $35 million per year. The Seahawks also announced that they've placed the franchise tag on Frank Clark ahead of Tuesday's deadline. Jachai Polite reportedly did not interview well, but Rob thinks the reports could be based on Polite reaction following his talks with teams. However, scouts are calling him on bailing on the workouts and that could be what causes his stock to tumble a bit. There were a number of safeties that improved their stock in a class that was not expected to be as athletic as they proved to be on the final day of the NFL Scouting Combine. There were three safeties that ran in the 4.3s or better. The fastest player of the weekend was a safety who ran 4.29. Juan Thornhill had an impressive 44-inch vertical to go along with his 4.4 speed. Rob says there's one safety to look at as a possible safety to cornerback convert, similar to Tre Flowers last year for Seattle and that's USC safety Marvell Tell. Taylor Rapp of Washington had an impressive day, topping the field in the short shuttle, a drill that measures short-area quickness. Among the cornerbacks, there were five who tested very well and also fit the Seahawks profile: Mike Jackson, Miami; Isaiah Johnson, Houston; Lonnie Johnson, Kentucky; Justin Layne, Michigan State, and Ken Webster of Mississippi St. Of all those players, Rob says Lonnie Johnson would be the player most likely still around in the range that Seattle may be interested in taking a corner. The others could be going in the first two rounds of the draft. Rob offers some final thoughts on the class as a whole and the guys discuss where Seattle may be most likely to go while trying to project 2-3 years out. One of our listeners on YouTube says Khalil Hodge is a Seahawks linebacker and Rob says there is a lot to like about him and could be a potential late-round prospect for Seattle. Ep 242242: NFL Combine Day 3 (DL, Edge, LB) with Rob Staton, Seahawks Draft Blog

Some of the biggest names of the 2019 NFL Draft are on the defensive line and players like Rashan Gary, who called himself the best player in the draft, along with Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams didn't disappoint on Day 3 of the NFL Scouting Combine. Their numbers simply proved they are indeed among the top names in this year's draft, all long gone before the Seahawks pick. Montez Sweat may have put his name up there in the elite with a blazing 4.41 performance at 260 pounds. Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com joins the show to offer some reasons why he still may not go in the top 15 even with his impressive numbers. Trysten Hill, a teammate of the Griffin twins at the University of Central Florida, showed his athleticism in the drills posting a 4.38 short shuttle, 35 inch vertical, 9-foot-7 broad jump and a 1.74 10-yard split as a 308 pound defensive lineman. Renell Wren, of Arizona State, was a player the Seahawks could be likely to consider along with Jerry Tillery of Notre Dame who had a nice performance at the combine. Rob put the defensive linemen into his Trench Explosion Formula and came up with a player who joins the Miles Garrett club as the only other player above a 4.0. Ben Banogu will now be a player that Rob goes and looks a little more at his tape from TCU. Brian Burns of Florida State was another edge rusher that could be a possibility for the Seahawks toward the end of the first round who was among the top edge rushers in the 10-yard split. Rob talks about Justin Hollins of Oregon as a potential Day 3 option. At linebacker, the Seahawks may be scrambling in free agency or working harder at re-signing K.J. Wright considering the lack of options in the draft class. Devin White of LSU will almost certainly be off the board early while the other potential first round pick, Devin Bush of Michigan could still be there. Rob previews the corners to watch on Monday, the final day of the combine, and adds three running backs from the first day of the combine who fit the Seahawks profile.

Ep 241241: Day 2 of the NFL Combine with Rob Staton, Seahawks Draft Blog

Before the workouts were underway in Indianapolis, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports tweeted out that Frank Clark and the Seahawks may be closing in on a deal in advance of the deadline to use the franchise tag. The Kansas City Chiefs recently announced that they would be tagging Dee Ford and Seattle has been consistent in saying that Clark won't be going to free agency. With the latest news and the press conference from John Schneider where he pointed out that Seattle hasn't used the tag since 2010, it sounds as though the team may be close to a deal. DK Metcalf stole the headlines away from Kyler Murray with his impressive performance at the combine running a 4.33 as a 6-foot-4 receiver. Rob points out that it's not the top time by a wideout as Parris Campbell from Ohio State may have improved his stock even more than Metcalf. The Seahawks are notorious for drafting speed at the position and we learned this class is loaded with speed. Considering some of the players who didn't run or weren't invited or allowed to work out at the combine, there could be a couple dozen players in that range for Seattle. Noah Fant had an impressive day at the combine, but considering his skillset primarily as a pass catcher, Seattle is likely going to stay away from obtaining a pair of Fants. LSU tight end Foster Moreau could be a more likely player Seattle would consider as primarily a blocker and as a well-respected member of the Tigers team. Rob talks about Moreau wearing number 18 for the Tigers and the significance behind it. Reports early on in the day were that several teams were of the mind that Arizona would be taking Murray with the first pick overall. Is it a smokescreen to try and get another team to move up to the first spot overall? As a Seahawks fan, which player would you rather see with the Cardinals Week 1, Rosen or Murray? That answer should tell you the direction that the Cardinals should choose to go. Ep 240240: NFL Combine Day 1 with Rob Staton, Seahawks Draft Blog

The 2019 NFL Combine kicked off this week and Rob Staton from Seahawks Draft Blog is back on the show to talk about the first day of action. Earlier in the week, some big news for the team was announced when word came out that the Seahawks would not be up for sale in the near future. Jody Allen, sister of Paul Allen, is the chair of the Paul Allen Trust and that it's in place as the ownership structure. John Schneider and Pete Carroll had their meetings with the press. We didn't get much in terms of draft news, but we did hear that Frank Clark will not be a free agent and that Earl Thomas certainly will. The first position group to get going at the combine was the offensive line. Rob talks about how Andre Dillard, tackle from Washington State, was the stand-out player who likely secured a top 15 spot in the draft based on his performance. He continues to watch for the player who fit into his trench explosion formula (TEF) to look at some of the more athletic players among the lineman and came up with 8-9 potential draft picks who shined in the testing. Justice Hill was the standout running back, topping the charts with a 4.4, as well as coming in first for the vertical and broad jump. Hill is undersized for what the Seahawks have looked for historically, but there were initially four names who the Seahawks would likely look at if they're available toward the end of the draft or as an undrafted free agent. Rob has updated his blog with three additional names, including Miles Sanders of Penn State. The guys close the show with some names to watch for tomorrow and a couple of players the Seahawks have reportedly met with at the combine, including Washington quarterback Jake Browning. Ep 239239: NFL Combine preview with Rob Staton, Seahawks Draft Blog

The 2019 NFL Combine is being held in Indianapolis this week, February 26 – March 4, 2019, with televised drills beginning on Friday. Rob Staton, of Seahawks Draft Blog, joins the show to talk about how the range of options for Seattle could be very diverse this year. Considering Russell Wilson's contract situation and Seattle's need to fill the backup role, he doesn't believe drafting a quarterback is off the table (12:18). Brandan and Rob talk about how well New England has done at drafting backups and turning many of those players into assets for players or more draft picks. Depending on what happens with D.J. Fluker and J.R. Sweezy, Seattle could be in desperate need for additional offensive lineman. Rob talks about his formula for measuring an offensive lineman's explosiveness and how it used to be a marker for lineman the Seahawks would consider drafting (20:03). The Seahawks appear to be set at running back, but it's also interesting to point out that Seattle definitely has a type when it comes to who they want to select in the draft (32:17). Seattle has three tight ends in Ed Dickson, Nick Vannett and Will Dissly, but could some uncertainty lead them to draft another tight end? Rob talks about one tight end who would provide outstanding value if he slides down the board in the first round (39:20). Wide receiver is another spot that Seattle could be looking to add to from the draft. It's a spot they have usually selected at least a player per year. It's also a position with one key stat to look for at the combine -- speed (44:19). Technique is also a critical component to success for receivers in the NFL, Rob talks about what he watches for in receiver drills to judge how well a player catches passes (51:56). The Seahawks find themselves in need of a kicker again this offseason. Are there any of them worth considering in the draft this year (54:40). The talent on the defensive line is strong this season. Rob talks about how watching defensive line drills are among his favorite to watch and who we should be watching (58:47). When the Seahawks have looked for edge rushers in the past, they have gone after players with a 10-yard split around 1.5 seconds. Linebacker could be another key position to watch depending on what happens in free agency, and Rob offers thoughts on players on the strong and weak-side spots (1:10:21). Getting into the defensive backs, it seems like everyone throughout the NFL knows what a Seahawks-style corner looks like. But could their thinking shift toward filling behind Justin Coleman, as a player who breaks the mold for the body type they've looked at in the past (1:26:19). Seattle has depth at safety, but Rob talks about the notion if they truly need a star to come in behind Earl Thomas at that spot (1:31:51). Having someone with speed like Thomas has been very helpful, but the combination of speed and ability have been very elusive throughout the NFL.
