The Seattle Seahawks lost 25-19 against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 of the preseason game on Sunday. Despite coming out on the losing end, Adam talks about how he views it as a win when considering how fans got to see Russell Wilson with time behind his offensive line. Even Ethan Pocic, the least experienced of the offensive lineman, showed improvement over last season. While Wilson played only a limited number of series before handing the ball to Paxton Lynch, the vanilla style of preseason play was far less tasty with the former first round pick at the helm. Poona Ford was a bright spot on the defensive line. Chris Carson looked like his dominant self and contrasted to the hesitation seen as Rashaad Penny had trouble getting going behind the second team offensive line. Hopefully, we see what Penny can do behind the starters when the Seahawks play the Chargers on Saturday. The Seahawks corners were not dominant versus one of the top receiving tandems in the league, but it did give Coach Carroll a chance to learn what to consider when throwing a challenge flag on a non-call of offensive pass interference. The guys talk through the new ability to challenge calls through the lens of a past non-call by officials. The Seahawks face off against the Vikings on Saturday and are coming off their annual preseason win over the Broncos (though they didn't play them last year until the regular season). We discuss some of the things that stood out from the Broncos game and how that performance by Paxton Lynch didn't excited Adam at all about the potential for solidifying the backup spot behind Russell Wilson. Talking about the Vikings gets Adam to the point of cutting down just about every other NFC team that he can think of who might be considered contenders. Officially kicking off the 2019 season of the podcast with our annual "season expectations" show. Adam and Brandan talk about where they have questions and concerns and what to expect from the team this year in terms of play calling on offense and, even with some big departures, why the defense will continue to be in the top half of the league for points allowed. One thing that is much different from past seasons is that there are more concerns on defense than the offense, particularly because the offensive line seems to be solidified and relatively unchanged from the previous year. Fans can also expect the coordinator to have a better feel for the offense, something it took Brian Schottenheimer time to get a feel for last season. On defense, Adam says that although the defensive line has some of the bigger questions with injuries and suspensions, he's more concerned about the defensive backs. Brandan is concerned about where the turnovers are going to come from this season, because that was one of the biggest reasons for the team's success on that side of the ball last year. In the second half (final third?) of the show the guys have a solution for the continued complaint surrounding the microphones at the preseason press conferences. We also talk about the status of Michael Kendricks going into the season. The San Francisco 49ers are hoping for a full season out of their starting quarterback this year after losing him early in the season due to an injury. Oscar of the Better Rivals podcast joins us to let us know that Handsome Jimmy will be expected to run out of bounds this year. We start by taking a look at the defense, and the 49ers have a clear strength on their defensive line with five first round picks including the number two overall pick in 2019. We discuss whether it will be enough to make up for some of the deficiencies in the secondary and where some of the biggest concerns are when it comes to San Francisco's defense. An annual tradition for the show kicks off this week as we bring on fellow podcasters from rival NFC West teams in the month of July. This year we kick things off with the team that finished at the bottom of the division, but a team that may have the most intriguing offseason. Bo Brack of the Locked on Cardinals podcast joins the show to talk about a team that had made a lot of moves this offseason. Not only have they made moves in free agency, but they had the first overall draft pick with Kyler Murray. With 2018 Seahawks backup quarterback Brett Hundley as the only other QB seemingly providing competition at the spot in Arizona this year, it looks as though Murray is a lock to be the Week 1 starter. Brandan and Bo talk about any concerns about making sure Murray has a more veteran presence to try and overcome to ensure he really earns that starting spot. With Patrick Peterson suspended for the first six games of the season, including the first matchup with the Seahawks in week 4, it looks as though former Huskies corner Byron Murphy could be lining up as a starter. This week is a crossover episode with The Seahawks Nest podcast as co-host Nathan joins this show to break down the Seattle Times' early look at a potential 53-man roster. There isn't much controversy apart from wondering why George Fant isn't listed among the tight ends and trying to decide which backups in different position groups could be slotted to play quarterback behind Russell Wilson. One of the marks of a solid roster is seeing players who are potential cuts who have spent significant time with the team or other veterans who could be overtaken on the roster by some of the younger players. Rashaad Penny talked about having to learn how to be a professional and several players have talked about changes they've made in the offseason. The guys talk about what some of the differences could be from the professional game to the college game and why players like Shaquille Griffin are talking about changing the way they eat. Also, with the Seahawks having nearly $30 million in cap space are they to a point where fans should be concerned that new ownership is less willing to spend up to the salary cap? Not all of the rookies are going to be amazing, so we're going to take some time this week to point out why each one of the Seahawks draft picks could end up being a bust. From L.J. Collier's lack of knees that bend to John Ursua allowing the football to beat him up, we point out what scouts have said as to why each player could fail in the NFL. Ultimately, we talk about which Seahawks rookie will be the biggest disappointment and that is most likely going to fall on the shoulders of DK Metcalf. Nesby Glasgow, former Seattle Seahawks safety from 1988 to 1992 returns to the show and talks about his 14 year NFL career that came after a college career with the Washington Huskies and ended back in Seattle. As a 14 year NFL veteran who played until he was 35, we talk about the surprise of the offseason that Doug Baldwin is leaving the game at a relatively young age. We start the show by talking about his experience with the NFL draft and how an injury in the Senior Bowl dropped him down into the 8th round of the 1979 NFL Draft. With college players opting not to play in certain games leading up to the draft, Glasgow offers his perspective on the particular game he would be sure not to miss out on. Glasgow played for former Seahawks head coach Chuck Knox, who passed away last offseason, and he talks about how Knox was the greatest coach he played for and shares a story about how Coach Knox decided to celebrate after one of the team's big wins. He also shares a story about how the team got in the head of Bo Jackson in the final game of the 1988 season that earned the team its first AFC West Division title. Seattle went on to lose to the Bengals in the playoffs who represented the AFC in the Super Bowl that year against Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Concussions in the NFL continue to be a concern, and a particular concern to Glasgow who is now 62 years old, he says some recent changes to the offseason could actually be detrimental to current NFL players. The 2019 season feels like it's just starting to kick off as the entire team gets together for their first week of organized team activities (OTAs). The status of Bobby Wagner's contract seemed to be the main concern as well as how he might handle the negotiations without the help of an agent. In the case of Wagner, it would seem like the negotiations should be relatively easy considering he's the top player in the entire NFL at his position. The biggest concern for the team going into this upcoming season seems to be at defensive line and Gerald McCoy sounds as though the Seahawks aren't on his list of teams to visit now that he's a free agent. Tampa Bay replaces him with the former Rams interior defender, and McCoy is going to Cleveland and Baltimore for visits. It does sound like the Seahawks are considering some other options to help with their pass rush, and one player is already on the team. The Seahawks made a transaction this week that hit a lot of Seahawks fans hard. Doug Baldwin, along with Kam Chancellor, were released from the team with a failed physical designation. The guys talk about what Baldwin meant for the Seahawks in his career and how he'll be missed for a little while, but Adam seems to think he's not gone for good. It could be that both Brandan and Adam are in Baldwin retirement denial. There was some good news, however, as Seahawks free agency appeared to start this week with Ziggy Ansah being signed to the team along with another veteran defensive lineman Al Woods. Ansah is a former Pro Bowl player who has fought through some injuries the past few seasons and let go by the Lions after suffering an injury during the season he played under the franchise tag. Seattle may have even found their new third string quarterback with Geno Smith coming in for a visit this week amidst reports that he is expected to sign with the team. Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze take a look at the Seahawks 2019 Draft Class and all 11 picks from General Manager John Schneider and Head Coach Pete Carroll. With about a week to go before the draft, the Seahawks had a franchise low four picks, by the time the day was complete they were just one pick short of having the most selections of the entire draft (the Vikings had 12). The guys talk about which picks they're most excited about, which ones might be the most likely to surprise us, and listen in to some of the best phone calls from the first couple days of the draft. While there were some obvious themes to the draft, Adam points to one that is a little more under the radar, but when you hear some of the interviews with the players, it becomes pretty clear that the Seahawks were looking beyond what they saw on the field from their players. Brandan joined Anthony with the Nach on Sports to talk about the Seahawks draft through the first and second round. While we were on the air live, Seattle traded with the Patriots into the last spot in the second round for the DK Metcalf pick. Check out the live reaction! With only four selections going into the 2019 NFL Draft and looking at the prospect of paying defensive end Frank Clark upwards of $20 million per year, the Seattle Seahawks made a move this week. It's a move that increases the number of picks in 2019 to five, the add a second round pick in 2020, and they save about $17 million against the salary cap by making the move. But it creates a hole that Seattle will need to fill either through the draft or free agency. Brandan Schulze and Clinton Bonner talk about the trade, how it impacts the draft, and which players in free agency that Seattle could get to fill behind Clark. Having two draft picks at the end of the first round gives them options now to either stay put with the 21st pick overall or move back and compile picks in the second and third rounds where there is a lot of depth to help fill positions of need for Seattle. In what has become an annual tradition, Dave Bloomquist (aka Hong Kong Hawk) joins the show to break down the Seahawks 2019 schedule in a unique way. In past seasons, Dave has pointed out how the Seahawks often get dealt a tough hand by giving Seattle's opponents more rest, particularly in big games leading up to home games in Seattle. This was a fun conversation! Unfortunately, it started off on the wrong foot with me sending a jolt of static electricity into the system via the headphone jack, which knocked out the computer and the phone lines right in the middle of Anthony's previous interview, but we turned it into nearly a half hour of Seahawks talk with the Russell Wilson contract, my draft crush going into next week and a look at the prime time games I'd like to see on the schedule.

Michael-Shawn Dugar of the Athletic and the Seahawks Man 2 Man Podcast joins the show this week to talk about the NFL's Annual League Meeting down in Arizona and his encounter with coach Pete Carroll who is challenging the popular opinion of the most important meal of the day. Brandan and Mike talk about the departure of Earl Thomas and how the best move the Seahawks made was to stay away from paying high-priced free agents. A couple big takeaways from the meetings in Arizona is just how reactionary the league continues to be when it comes to changing the rules. Pass interference is now reviewable and we may see a change down the road to how playoff games are handled in overtime after Tom Brady quickly scored on the Chiefs to send New England to another Super Bowl. Sam Marcoux, co-host of the Perfectville Podcast, jumps on later in the show to talk about his feelings on the change to make pass interference calls reviewable. He clearly still holds a grudge against Doug Baldwin after the Seahawks beat Miami back in 2016. What will be some of the consequences of the rule change? The guys talk about expectations of increased game time, how coaches will save their challenges specifically for pass interference calls, and maybe some increases in seeing offensive pass interference calls. The hope of course is that the implementation results in making sure the calls on the field are correct. While we don't often talk about the Dolphins on the show, Miami can show Seahawks fans just how difficult it can be to replace a franchise quarterback. Ryan Tannehill is now out and at least Dolphins fans are starting to see a plan in place for having a tough year or two with the potential that they can be this year's Cleveland Browns sometime in the near future. Brandan joins Anthony on the Nach on Sports to talk about the latest moves by the Seahawks in free agency and to talk about the upcoming draft and how Seattle will approach the first round of the draft in April.

Before discussing some better than expected performances, particularly at safety, a few news items jumped out in the news today as the Seahawks reportedly met with Kyler Murray at the combine. Rob Staton from seahawksdraftblog.com is back on the show to remind us why that was a smart move even with Russell Wilson locked in at quarterback. Wilson is going into his final year and Joel Corry said on KJR Monday that Russell's contract will need to start around $35 million per year. The Seahawks also announced that they've placed the franchise tag on Frank Clark ahead of Tuesday's deadline. Jachai Polite reportedly did not interview well, but Rob thinks the reports could be based on Polite reaction following his talks with teams. However, scouts are calling him on bailing on the workouts and that could be what causes his stock to tumble a bit. There were a number of safeties that improved their stock in a class that was not expected to be as athletic as they proved to be on the final day of the NFL Scouting Combine. There were three safeties that ran in the 4.3s or better. The fastest player of the weekend was a safety who ran 4.29. Juan Thornhill had an impressive 44-inch vertical to go along with his 4.4 speed. Rob says there's one safety to look at as a possible safety to cornerback convert, similar to Tre Flowers last year for Seattle and that's USC safety Marvell Tell. Taylor Rapp of Washington had an impressive day, topping the field in the short shuttle, a drill that measures short-area quickness. Among the cornerbacks, there were five who tested very well and also fit the Seahawks profile: Mike Jackson, Miami; Isaiah Johnson, Houston; Lonnie Johnson, Kentucky; Justin Layne, Michigan State, and Ken Webster of Mississippi St. Of all those players, Rob says Lonnie Johnson would be the player most likely still around in the range that Seattle may be interested in taking a corner. The others could be going in the first two rounds of the draft. Rob offers some final thoughts on the class as a whole and the guys discuss where Seattle may be most likely to go while trying to project 2-3 years out. One of our listeners on YouTube says Khalil Hodge is a Seahawks linebacker and Rob says there is a lot to like about him and could be a potential late-round prospect for Seattle. Some of the biggest names of the 2019 NFL Draft are on the defensive line and players like Rashan Gary, who called himself the best player in the draft, along with Nick Bosa and Quinnen Williams didn't disappoint on Day 3 of the NFL Scouting Combine. Their numbers simply proved they are indeed among the top names in this year's draft, all long gone before the Seahawks pick. Montez Sweat may have put his name up there in the elite with a blazing 4.41 performance at 260 pounds. Rob Staton of seahawksdraftblog.com joins the show to offer some reasons why he still may not go in the top 15 even with his impressive numbers. Trysten Hill, a teammate of the Griffin twins at the University of Central Florida, showed his athleticism in the drills posting a 4.38 short shuttle, 35 inch vertical, 9-foot-7 broad jump and a 1.74 10-yard split as a 308 pound defensive lineman. Renell Wren, of Arizona State, was a player the Seahawks could be likely to consider along with Jerry Tillery of Notre Dame who had a nice performance at the combine. Rob put the defensive linemen into his Trench Explosion Formula and came up with a player who joins the Miles Garrett club as the only other player above a 4.0. Ben Banogu will now be a player that Rob goes and looks a little more at his tape from TCU. Brian Burns of Florida State was another edge rusher that could be a possibility for the Seahawks toward the end of the first round who was among the top edge rushers in the 10-yard split. Rob talks about Justin Hollins of Oregon as a potential Day 3 option. At linebacker, the Seahawks may be scrambling in free agency or working harder at re-signing K.J. Wright considering the lack of options in the draft class. Devin White of LSU will almost certainly be off the board early while the other potential first round pick, Devin Bush of Michigan could still be there. Rob previews the corners to watch on Monday, the final day of the combine, and adds three running backs from the first day of the combine who fit the Seahawks profile.

Before the workouts were underway in Indianapolis, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports tweeted out that Frank Clark and the Seahawks may be closing in on a deal in advance of the deadline to use the franchise tag. The Kansas City Chiefs recently announced that they would be tagging Dee Ford and Seattle has been consistent in saying that Clark won't be going to free agency. With the latest news and the press conference from John Schneider where he pointed out that Seattle hasn't used the tag since 2010, it sounds as though the team may be close to a deal. DK Metcalf stole the headlines away from Kyler Murray with his impressive performance at the combine running a 4.33 as a 6-foot-4 receiver. Rob points out that it's not the top time by a wideout as Parris Campbell from Ohio State may have improved his stock even more than Metcalf. The Seahawks are notorious for drafting speed at the position and we learned this class is loaded with speed. Considering some of the players who didn't run or weren't invited or allowed to work out at the combine, there could be a couple dozen players in that range for Seattle. Noah Fant had an impressive day at the combine, but considering his skillset primarily as a pass catcher, Seattle is likely going to stay away from obtaining a pair of Fants. LSU tight end Foster Moreau could be a more likely player Seattle would consider as primarily a blocker and as a well-respected member of the Tigers team. Rob talks about Moreau wearing number 18 for the Tigers and the significance behind it. Reports early on in the day were that several teams were of the mind that Arizona would be taking Murray with the first pick overall. Is it a smokescreen to try and get another team to move up to the first spot overall? As a Seahawks fan, which player would you rather see with the Cardinals Week 1, Rosen or Murray? That answer should tell you the direction that the Cardinals should choose to go. The 2019 NFL Combine kicked off this week and Rob Staton from Seahawks Draft Blog is back on the show to talk about the first day of action. Earlier in the week, some big news for the team was announced when word came out that the Seahawks would not be up for sale in the near future. Jody Allen, sister of Paul Allen, is the chair of the Paul Allen Trust and that it's in place as the ownership structure. John Schneider and Pete Carroll had their meetings with the press. We didn't get much in terms of draft news, but we did hear that Frank Clark will not be a free agent and that Earl Thomas certainly will. The first position group to get going at the combine was the offensive line. Rob talks about how Andre Dillard, tackle from Washington State, was the stand-out player who likely secured a top 15 spot in the draft based on his performance. He continues to watch for the player who fit into his trench explosion formula (TEF) to look at some of the more athletic players among the lineman and came up with 8-9 potential draft picks who shined in the testing. Justice Hill was the standout running back, topping the charts with a 4.4, as well as coming in first for the vertical and broad jump. Hill is undersized for what the Seahawks have looked for historically, but there were initially four names who the Seahawks would likely look at if they're available toward the end of the draft or as an undrafted free agent. Rob has updated his blog with three additional names, including Miles Sanders of Penn State. The 2019 NFL Combine is being held in Indianapolis this week, February 26 – March 4, 2019, with televised drills beginning on Friday. Rob Staton, of Seahawks Draft Blog, joins the show to talk about how the range of options for Seattle could be very diverse this year. Considering Russell Wilson's contract situation and Seattle's need to fill the backup role, he doesn't believe drafting a quarterback is off the table (12:18). Brandan and Rob talk about how well New England has done at drafting backups and turning many of those players into assets for players or more draft picks. Depending on what happens with D.J. Fluker and J.R. Sweezy, Seattle could be in desperate need for additional offensive lineman. Rob talks about his formula for measuring an offensive lineman's explosiveness and how it used to be a marker for lineman the Seahawks would consider drafting (20:03). The Seahawks appear to be set at running back, but it's also interesting to point out that Seattle definitely has a type when it comes to who they want to select in the draft (32:17). Seattle has three tight ends in Ed Dickson, Nick Vannett and Will Dissly, but could some uncertainty lead them to draft another tight end? Rob talks about one tight end who would provide outstanding value if he slides down the board in the first round (39:20). Wide receiver is another spot that Seattle could be looking to add to from the draft. It's a spot they have usually selected at least a player per year. It's also a position with one key stat to look for at the combine -- speed (44:19). Technique is also a critical component to success for receivers in the NFL, Rob talks about what he watches for in receiver drills to judge how well a player catches passes (51:56). The Seahawks find themselves in need of a kicker again this offseason. Are there any of them worth considering in the draft this year (54:40). The talent on the defensive line is strong this season. Rob talks about how watching defensive line drills are among his favorite to watch and who we should be watching (58:47). When the Seahawks have looked for edge rushers in the past, they have gone after players with a 10-yard split around 1.5 seconds. Linebacker could be another key position to watch depending on what happens in free agency, and Rob offers thoughts on players on the strong and weak-side spots (1:10:21). Getting into the defensive backs, it seems like everyone throughout the NFL knows what a Seahawks-style corner looks like. But could their thinking shift toward filling behind Justin Coleman, as a player who breaks the mold for the body type they've looked at in the past (1:26:19). Seattle has depth at safety, but Rob talks about the notion if they truly need a star to come in behind Earl Thomas at that spot (1:31:51). Having someone with speed like Thomas has been very helpful, but the combination of speed and ability have been very elusive throughout the NFL. How can the Seahawks improve in 2019? This last week, in one of Jay Glazer's latest articles on the Athletic, he was asked to make a bold prediction for the offseason. His answer was that Odell Beckham Jr. gets traded. It seems unlikely that the Giants would move on after OBJ signed a five-year $90 million contract to stay in New York just last year, but it doesn't stop the speculation of what kind of deal the Seahawks could make and what a trade package could look like. James and Bear from the Rams Podcast join the show as winners of their bets with us this past season and join the show as losers to talk about what went wrong in the Super Bowl against the Patriots. Rams fans sound a lot like Seahawks fans after the season in bemoaning the team's ability to make in-game adjustments. The difference is that Seattle fans wanted to adjust to the pass much sooner while Rams fans were left wondering what if they looked toward the running game for success. The Super Bowl is just hours away, and we're starting off the show with some important quarterback news. It's important because it may just show how lucky we are that Russell Wilson slipped to the third round and the Seahawks were able to take him. With the Pro Bowl this past weekend, Wilson dominated the NFL skills challenges. One former Seahawks quarterback looks like he may get another chance in the AAF. For those who aren't familiar with that acronym, you're not alone. Maybe the marketing budget isn't quite to the level of the NFL's budget to promote Rams coach Sean McVay. Does that budget also include making sure the refs made the proper calls at the end of the NFC Championship or does that get it's own separate budget? If you want things done fast and done well, it's not going to be cheap. So will the NFL do the right thing and pay the money it will take to get officiating above the level of scrutiny it has been taking since the championship weekend? In discussing the AFC game, at least we can agree that the overtime rules can stay as is. Another thing that is clear is how fortunate Seahawks fans have been during their three appearances in the NFC Championship. Adam and Brandan look ahead to this weekend's game. Don't count out Genghis Tom even with a pair of outstanding defensive tackles. They go over some of the key differences between the defensive lines that the Patriots have lost to in the past. For those who don't care to watch the game (most of us), the guys talk about the Sandra Bullock movie bracket that we've been working through on the Facebook page the last couple weeks. It's down to the final four! The Pro Bowl radio announcers could do much better to provide the theater of the mind to made the game more enjoyable than watching on television. Looking back at the season, Rob discusses some of the players who impacted this team the most from the 2018 draft class. Did John Schneider regain some of the magic from his earlier years, or is it just a trend of continued success? One thing for sure we can count on is that Schneider won't be content with four draft picks and will most likely trade back to accumulate extra picks on Day 3 of the draft. The Senior Bowl is this weekend and Rob talks about why this game hold so much significance for draft analysts. Who are some of the players to look for? Rob talks about players like Montez Sweat, a pass rusher from Mississippi State and Terry McLaurin who have impressed so far this week at the Senior Bowl. Two local lineman, one from Washington and another from Washington State, have also performed well and could be potential draft targets for Seattle. Rob and Brandan spend some time talking about a potential candidate in the draft for the big-bodied wide receiver that Coach Carroll has seemingly been looking for. DK Metcalf of Ole MIss has some injury issues that could cause him to fall down the board and potentially into the second round. His father, uncle and grandfather all played in the NFL. Rob lays out a scenario where, if Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray falls in the draft, the Seahawks should consider taking him. Though Rob is high on the Murray's potential, it wouldn't necessarily be with the goal in mind of immediately trading Russ. Instead it could serve as a fallback plan in case contract negotiations don't go well in this offseason and if Russell Wilson ends up going the franchise tag route down the road. In his final press conference for the season, Pete Carroll characterized the 2018 Seahawks year as a season of growth. We look at many of the strengths of the team this season as well as areas of growth for 2019. With young players filling a lot of key positions, particularly on defense, Carroll sounds like he is counting on many of those players to be better. But as we've pointed out in the past, it's not always a steady progression toward awesome. When the Seahawks lost both Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson on offense in the offseason, we were wondering where those 16 touchdowns would go. As we hoped, a lot of those went to the run game, which improved from one score last season to 15 this year. Add that to a career year in touchdown passes for Russell, and that helped the team become the second highest scoring offense in franchise history. Which players outperformed their contracts this season? Which ones didn't quite live up to the value? Injuries were the primary factor in determining underperformance, and apart from that the Seahawks received a high level of performance from the value of the players on the roster. The 2018 rookie class was one area in particular fans should be very happy with. In the second half of the show we learn that nearly half of the top 10 in the pickem league cheated in a way that we made clear was not acceptable. Adam goes after Nike for requiring an app for a new pair of basketball shoes and Brandan calls out a USA Today reporter for leaving out some key facts in characterizing the Seahawks play calling this past season. Better at life honors go to NASA for a possible upcoming mission to look for life in other parts of our solar system, and to a Philadelphia Eagles fan in second grade who provided some inspiration to fans everywhere. Russell Wilson was named to the Pro Bowl (finally) after Aaron Rodgers has decided to sit the game out due to injury. Wilson led the NFC in touchdown passes in 2018. Why was Rodgers even in the Pro Bowl after the season he had this year? After the game Pete Carroll called this year a season of growth. Is it better to lose early to emphasize the additional growth the Seahawks need? Going back to the game against the Cowboys, we dial into the second half to see when a change of gameplan could have made a difference in the outcome. Ultimately, there were two plays that nearly always goes the Seahawks way. Had Seattle made just one of those two plays (one on offense, one on defense), they would have been in a much greatest position to get a win in Dallas. Seattle made it abundantly clear in this game, they were sticking with the same formula they used in the Week 3 game. Run the ball no matter what and wait for the Cowboys to make a mistake. The problem was the one mistake they made was on their side of the field and the Seahawks couldn't capitalize unless they had a short field. Even when they had a short field in the third quarter, it took four downs and an incredible sideline catch from Doug Baldwin to put them in position for a touchdown. After the Baldwin catch, it looked like they had finally adjusted to what the Cowboys were doing. Dallas was completely selling out to stop Chris Carson, so Russell kept the ball and made some plays. The problem was they didn't adjust. They continued to pound into the brick was that was the Dallas defensive front on first down. Over. And over. And over. Clinton Bonner joins Adam and Brandan for the reaction show this week. As a passionate supporter to give Chris Carson the ball all season, Clinton finds it hard to be too critical, but Adam makes the point that this was how effective the run was this season. It was so good that Dallas was throwing everything they had to stop it, and it was on the Seahawks coaches to adjust and take what the defense was giving them. It's a playoff episode on the first Blue Friday of 2019 and our Seahawks are back in the playoffs after missing the postseason last year. Adam is back in his hosting chair along with Brandan to help kick the New Year off the right way. Chris Carson had a great start to the year by learning that he earned offensive player of the month honors for December. Going into the matchup, one thing that seems to be overlooked is just how prolific the Seahawks offense was this season. Seattle tied the Chiefs with their ability to create explosive plays going into the final stretch of the season and this Seahawks offense put up more points than any other team apart from the one that went to the Super Bowl in the 2005 season. The guys discuss whether that is a product of the league this year or something that's truly exciting heading into the playoffs. Adam has been hearing about how much more talent the Cowboys roster has than the Seahawks, so he wants to take a look at the position groups to see exactly which areas have more talent than Seattle. In past years, fans could count on the Dallas offensive line being the best unit on the field, but that may not be the case anymore. Dak Prescott has been doing one thing at an elite level this season, and that has been his ability to generate game winning drives. He's slightly ahead of Russell Wilson and second only to Drew Brees. Can it translate to playoff success? So how exactly did a team that was predicted to miss the playoffs end up in a position that surprised so many in the national media? There were even some surprises to those of us who predicted a playoff season. We run down the top three reasons why Seattle found the success it did this year and to a level that beat expectations. Pete Carroll is now set to be the Seahawks coach through 2021, and with his comments in a recent Seattle Times article, it seems we have a better idea of the immediate future of team ownership after the passing of Paul Allen. Closing out this week's show, Adam give us his playoff picks, shares a life lesson he learned over the past week, and tells us why Antonio Brown needs to do better. Brandan calls out Patrick Mahomes for something that should be creating a lot more controversey. With a postseason spot already clinched, the Seahawks took fans on a ride that seemed to be reminiscent of past memories. From a player wearing number 83 getting knocked down as a slant pass was intercepted, to abandoning the run in the way they did early this season, it brought back some bad memories. Ross Bell of the UK Sea Hawkers joins Brandan to talk about why, against the Cardinals, the Seahawks seem to refuse to win pretty. The last time a matchup between these two teams was decided by more than a touchdown was a 36-6 victory in Arizona. But the Seahawks finally get a win at home, 27-24, against an Arizona team that had won three straight times at CenturyLink. With their two starting guards out, Seattle moved Ifedi into guard and put George Fant at right tackle for the second straight game. It didn't go well as Wilson was sacked six times. Protecting the punter was also a problem as one punt was blocked for a touchdown and another was partially blocked. After back-to-back drives to start the half were unsuccessful following three straight pass plays, Seattle was backed up on the two-yard line to start their third drive. It looked like another turnover would go into the end zone for a touchdown until a holding call on the Cardinals defense gave Seattle new life. Chris Carson broke his biggest run of the season going 61 yards downfield and Mike Davis finished off the drive with a 17-yard run into the end zone. The Cardinals continued to fight back, but Russell Wilson put together another one of his fourth quarter game-winning drives and Janikowski kicked the game winner (something Blair Walsh couldn't manage last season).

With a playoff spot on the line, the Seahawks put up an outstanding effort against the Kansas City Chiefs and earn a 38-31 victory to solidify a spot on the postseason. Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog joins the reaction show this week to talk about the offensive performance on the ground and through the air with 464 total yards. Three touchdowns from Russell Wilson to go with 271 yards, and Chris Carson added two touchdowns on the ground to go with his 27 carries for 116 yards. The Seahawks defense came up big when it needed to by helping to get the Chiefs off the field and go three-and-out on their first drive. Their effort to hold them to field goals instead of touchdowns on drives in the 1st and 4th quarters was also a key difference in this game. Brandan talks about how Ken Norton Jr. changed things up with the scheme to help hold Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce to just five catches on the day. Of course it can't go without mentioning the spectacular effort by Doug Baldwin in this game. His touchdown catch in the third quarter helped the Seahawks pull away from the Chiefs for good. In the next quarter, the concentration to bring the football down at the one yard line in right before the Seahawks final touchdown was incredible. But even before that touchdown by Doug, Brandan goes back to a moment in the third quarter where they game could have gone in a different direction and it was the effort by tight end Ed Dickson that helped lead Seattle to victory.

Facing one of the top offenses in the NFL this week, the Seahawks have a number of players on the injury report. On defense is where the names jump out the most. Particularly seeing both Bradley McDougald and Tedric Thompson along with Shaquill Griffin on the injury report. Griffin was a full participant in practice, but Thompson has already been ruled out this week and McDougald is questionable. How will injuries impact Sunday night's game? The Chiefs are incredible on offense, but what about the defense? What's the magic number the Seahawks will have to put up on the board to be able to outscore the trio of Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce? It's a difficult number to come up with when they've score upwards of 40-50 points in two of the three losses. A few of the Seahawks players are looking to hit some big milestones in this game. Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, Chris Carson and Frank Clark all have some important milestones that could be within range in this game. The guys run down the short list of Pro Bowl players with Bobby Wagner and Michael Dickson earning a spot. But there are seven more Seahawks players on the list who are listed as alternates. With a playoff berth on the line, the Seahawks fall to the San Francisco 49ers 26-23 in overtime. We could blame Ross in Eureka who made the trip down and was in attendance last time the Seahawks lost to the 49ers, but instead we peg the blame on a few of the players, bad calls in tough moments and inability to adjust early on to the way San Francisco was attacking the defense. It makes sense, based on past history, the Seahawks wouldn't take the easy road to the playoffs by locking it up in week 15. For some reason they have to make it more interesting over the final two weeks of the season. There are also some positives to touch on, as well. Doug Baldwin had a really nice game coming back from injury. Both of his touchdowns offered some nice moments. Chris Carson had a career day and his touchdown on fourth and goal showed a tremendous effort and the defensive line had some big plays in key moments. But no Seahawks player seemed to be admired more by the home 49ers crowd than punter Michael Dickson.

Changing the show up a big this week now that it's been a few days since the Vikings game and the Seahawks are facing a familiar foe in the San Francisco 49ers we covered recently. With so much feedback over this past week, we're reaching into the mailbag and covering some of the biggest topics from the past few weeks. The Monday Night Football matchup between the Seahawks and the Vikings was a defensive slugfest for the first 55 minutes of the game. Halfway through the fourth quarter, Minnesota started playing the field position game and were able to line up for a 47-yard field goal, but Bobby Wagner wasn't having it. Wagner leaped over the line and blocked the try to keep the Vikings scoreless. Minnesota couldn't stop the Seahawks on the ground as Russell Wilson escaped outside the pocket and picked up 40 yards down the sideline. From 21 yards out, Chris Carson carried five straight times to put the first touchdown on the board with less than three minutes left. Seattle added a 2-point conversion and just a couple plays later the defense added a score of their own. Within the span of 30 seconds, the game went from tight 6-0 game to a 21-0 blowout. Adam and Brandan talk about the biggest plays from the game, including a catch by Geroge Fant, and the dominant play from a Seahawks defense that looked like the play we came to expect from previous seasons. Looking ahead to the game next weekend against the 49ers, Tod Gomes of the NorCal Sea Hawkers joins the show to talk about the upcoming events leading into Sunday's game in Santa Clara as well as the fundraising efforts to support victims of the Camp Fire in California.

The Seahawks keep their winning streak against the 49ers alive with a 43-16 victory over San Francisco at CenturyLink Field. Russell Wilson doesn't throw for many yards, but he really didn't need to. He only needed four completions in the first half, and three of them were for touchdowns, to put Seattle up 20-3. With a big Tyler Lockett return to start the second half and a Rashaad Penny run to punch it in from 20 yards out, Seattle had more than enough points to coast through the rest of the game. Richard Sherman was unwilling to accept that Wilson had a solid performance and pointed to the fact that Russell threw for less than 200 yards, while also noting that it was the 49ers quarterback had thrown for more than 400. We ask the important questions, like, is Sherman a yardage truther? But this game was more about Bobby Wagner than it was Wilson or Sherman. Wagner had a game that busted off the stat sheet with 12 tackles, 2 for a loss, 1 pick six, a fumble recovery and two pass defenses. His 98-yard interception return was a new Seahawks record. If the NFL season ended after this game, Seattle would be the 5th seed in the playoffs. It actually gives them a bit of room for error over the next four games and that's what has Adam a bit worried going into this week's matchup. The Vikings are hanging onto the final playoff spot and have one of the best receiving corps coming into Seattle. But will the Vikings coach choose to air it out or try and stick to promoting a run game that is currently 30th in the NFL? After Sunday's 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Adam and Brandan continue to enjoy the win. This week, we award those who deserve to be recognized for some of the biggest plays from Sunday's win. Russell Wilson also gets some recognition for his franchise record milestone and a pair of receivers do something that has been done less than a handful of times in the Pete Carroll era. The Carolina Panthers were able to end the Seahawks streak of seven straight games with more than 150 yards rushing. With that coming to an end, Brandan brings up the other teams that have accomplished that feat since Seattle joined the NFL and they all have something in common. Four weeks ago, we said the Seahawks needed to go 2-2 over at tough four-game stretch where they faced the Chargers, Rams, Packers and Panthers. Seattle got the job done, despite falling in a 0-2 hole, but now they are back on track after handing Cam Newton his first home loss in Carolina this season. A missed field goal late in the fourth quarter gave the ball back to Seattle and a huge pass to Tyler Lockett set up the game winning field goal and the 30-27 victory. Lockett was outstanding in this game and David Moore caught a ball on a rope from Russell Wilson on fourth down to tie the game up in the fourth quarter. Adam says he wants all the Seahawks receivers to watch what Lockett does after he catches the football. Chris Carson didn't have a lot of yardage in this game, but he certainly made the highlight reel with a full flip where he landed on his feet. Wilson gets another stat on the road and is now has more regular season wins than any Seahawks quarterback in franchise history. We'll be talking about that along with the matchup against the 49ers in the show later this week.

The Seahawks overcame a lot in last week's 27-24 win over the Packers. They won despite a fumble on the opening play that was quickly turned into a score, they won despite a huge touchdown throw from Aaron Rodgers to put the Packers up by double digits early on in the game, and they overcame a rough first half by Russell Wilson. Not only that, they racked up a few pre-snap penalties, Kyler Fackrell had a huge day, and they even got some help in a few key areas late in the game. The running game continues to have a positive impact for the Seahawks. With Carson, Penny and Davis all proving to be solid options, they continue to impose their will on teams. It showed up in the final four minutes of the game when they showed the Packers that they would not get the ball back and have a chance at some late-game magic. It was a stark contrast to a team that led at the half, yet fed their lead back only four times in the final 30 minutes of the game. Now at 5-5, Seattle will travel across the country and face their second to last road team for the season before hosting four of their final five games. Carolina is coming off two road losses, but they return home where they have proven to be a very different team. The Panthers, Rams, Patriots and Chiefs are perfect at home this year. Fortunately, Seattle has been a very good road team after losing their opening two games on the road. The guys talk about how similarly the two teams match up going into a critical game for Seattle to maintain momentum toward a playoff spot. In the final segment of the show, they talk about how the national media seems to be coming around to the idea that Seattle is a team with playoff potential. The Seahawks fell back below .500 this week after another close game. Just like in the first loss, the Seahawks had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to score and came up short. Where is the clutch Russell Wilson that we've come to expect in these finals moments? The guys aren't buying the notion that an improved running game has any sort of negative impact on the passing offense late in the game. Wilson got it done on the ground, but when it comes to the passing game, one particular stat surprised Adam. So are the Seahawks the best of the bad teams or a bad, good team? Whichever one it is, they're about to face a team that has similar questions. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are facing Seattle on Thursday night and they seem to have a back who can make things happen on the ground. The other side of the ball is an issue for them. Green Bay has a defense that is structured similar to the Rams and Seahawks have put up at least 30 points in those matchups. The guys explain why there was no quick reaction show, although technically this could be a quick reaction show considering the amount of time between watching the game and the show this week. The Seahawks lose what ends up being a close game at the end to the Chargers. The defense holds the Chargers offense to zero points after having a rough first half. With the fact the defense was able to keep it close, Russell Wilson has to own a big part of the loss. Taking sacks, missing receivers and not getting rid of the ball when he has an opportunity all had an impact. The guys talk about how he's having to do some work to get back to working within the offensive system. Part of the trouble in the first half against the Chargers was with giving up explosive players to the Chargers. The guys dig into the third down stats to see that the Seahawks are among the best in the league on holding teams on third down. Why does it feel like if the opposing team is in a third and long situation that the defense is going to give up a big play? Looking ahead to the Rams game on Sunday, the Seahawks ability to attack the perimeter the way the Saints did last week and success throwing deep against Peters will help keep them in the game. Adam thinks the defense has to be able to get enough stops to keep the Rams under 30 points for Seattle to have a shot to win. Seattle hasn't shown much ability to get a pass rush against good offensive lines and Jared Goff has been outstanding when throwing from a clean pocket. Those two things could make for a difficult day. The loss to the Chargers knocked the Seahawks playoff chances down to 35% when it was 50% last week. Adam and Brandan look at the other teams in the playoff race for the NFC Wild Card spots to try and see where the biggest competition is and how it will impact the games on the schedule. In the second half of the show we talk about Bruce Irvin going to the Falcons rather than coming back to Seattle and talk about how the Seahawks touchdown celebrations having been on point this season. One of our members of the flock went to Western Oregon University, or at least a school that now refers to itself by that name. Others attempt to verify its existence, but it starts to sound more like a Bigfoot sighting than actual verifiable evidence. In the Do Better segment Brandan goes after Troy Aikman while Adam talks about his experience trying to license his camper. Penalties, whether on the Seahawks or on the Chargers, seemed to be the story of this game. Seattle, in the final minutes of the game, are able to drive down and have one more shot at a touchdown thanks to calls that went against the Chargers defense. J.R. Sweezy gets called for a false start right before the final play just for good measure. A tipped pass makes it so David Moore is unable to come down with it in the back of the end zone and Seattle loses 25-17. Philip Rivers made it pretty clear he would have liked to have seen a whole lot more penalties go his way. Even will all of the laundry on the field, the Seahawks still had moments to overcome the calls. Seabass had a chance to make a field goal and missed. Russell had opportunities where he missed guys on throws. Some calls, like the one where Mike Williams had a foot or two out of bounds, may have even allowed Seattle to score more points. What is certain is that the Seahawks did have a chance in the end and they missed an opportunity to get one game closer to the Rams. Following a 28-14 victory over the Lions, Seattle was quiet at the trade deadline and didn't give up or acquire any picks. But they did open up a roster spot by dropping Brandon Marshall. Marshall hadn't seen much action in recent weeks and Coach Carroll mentioned a desire to add to special teams. And speaking of special teams, Michael Dickson earn NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after earning a new nickname and making a play from his own end zone that was celebrated by his teammates, by his coach and by a former Colts punter who took to Twitter to offer an amazing call on the play. The Los Angeles Chargers are next up and Philip Rivers is having a solid season. The guys take a look at how the Chargers earned their 5-2 record and what the Seahawks need to do on defense to have success. For Seattle, their secret weapon may be their defensive coordinator who had a lot of success against Rivers in his previous position. The Chargers bring a secret weapon into this game, too, a second receiver with the last name Williams from a college we're not sure actually exists. This week's show features a deep dive into offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's headwear selections and how it has impacted the games throughout the season. Adam sounds as though he's prepared to eat crow based on his reaction after the signing in the offseason and Brandan is prepared to make a deal with a local beat writer to track the coordinators headwear at practice. Do better nods to go out to players from the Jaguars for their behavior in London and to several members of the Packers organization for their behavior in the closing moments of the game against the Rams that continued to impact them through the trade deadline. Celebrating a victory this week as the Seahawks improve to 4-3 and earn their third straight victory on the road. After seven games this season, Seattle still has six home games left on its schedule. And with the Seahawks coming out of the bye, many of us fans were wondering if Seattle could carry the momentum over from the win overseas against the Raiders. With the 28-14 win, the defense was able to hold off some late charges by Matt Stafford and the Lions. A 21-point second quarter allowed Seattle to grind out clock throughout most of the second half and a 14-point lead in the final minutes allowed punter Michael Dickson to take a risk on a play that was intended to run out clock before taking a safety. Instead, he ran from the very back of the end zone and turned upfield to get a first down to help cement the win. Adam Nathan of the UK Sea Hawkers joins Adam and Brandan this week to talk about the emergence of David Moore, a great showing by Chris Carson, and the continued efficiency of Russell Wilson in what turned out to be a record-breaking performance.

The Seahawks are coming off of their bye week and are back on the road to a location that Russell Wilson has yet to win a game. The last time the Seahawks and the Lions played in Detroit, it was Wilson's rookie season. Fortunately, Russell is undefeated against Detroit when he's not a rookie. A lot of the talk leading up to Sunday's matchup, is how Detroit now has a running game. They now have a talented player to hand the ball off to, but it hasn't changed the way that the Lions and Matt Stafford attack opposing defenses. Even with an improved run game, it isn't as if the Lions are making it a point to shift their offensive philosophy. Adam and Brandan break down some of the statistics going into the game and where the Lions have the biggest deficiency against the Seahawks. On offense for Detroit, they have a former Seahawks receiver who Adam considers the biggest concern for the Seahawks defense. One area to watch is if the Seahawks pass rush can continue what they showed us against the Raiders, even though the Lions offensive line is much better. Brian won the pickem league this past week and there is an eerie coincidence that matches up with the 20-year anniversary of an iconic movie. We revisit the segment from last show and cover many of the remaining types of tape we didn't get in last week's power rankings. In the Do Better segment, Brandan has a problem with some of the marketing from his cell provider and Adam goes after a writer for ESPN's power rankings.
