In discussions with international collaborators Helga Zepp-LaRouche emphasized the danger emanating from the unwillingness of the European war party to seek peace and use negotiations to bring the Russia/Ukraine conflict to an end. The “Rearm Europe” campaign to make the European nations “war ready” and deliver more heavy weapons to Ukraine is escalating, despite high-level negotiations going on between the US and Russia. Zepp-LaRouche said: “Now, very worrisome also in line with the militarization of Europe, is the fact that Germany and Great Britain, together, decided on the development of the new, long-range missile, with a range of more than 2,000 km. That has been presented by the defense ministers of both countries, British Defense Minister John Healey and German Minister Boris Pistorius; naturally 2,000-5,000 km normally is called a medium-range missile, but they are calling it a long-range missile, and obviously, this goes way beyond the Taurus; and the Taurus, this is mooted in some alternative media articles, that Merz may have already decided on the Taurus, and just not made it public.” “ What is circulating widely is a so-called “Green Book” by the Bundeswehr, which demands a change in mentality, and it’s basically long descriptions and handbooks, how the civilian society must be pulled into military logic; the healthcare system has to be made ready to deal with 1,000 injured per day; then it has all detailed guidelines for how every household should have an emergency reserve of food, water, and electricity, first-aid courses, civil training in the schools, more money for the Red Cross and so forth and so on: It’s a complete hysteria.” Whereas Merz, in a television show May 15, made an attempt to play down, for the moment, the importance of the discussion about a delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, news from London the same day indicated that there may be worse things on the agenda than the Taurus. The so-called Trinity House agreement signed on October 23, 2024, under German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will be realized now under Chancellor Merz. We have here two videos: First, 100k people gathered yesterday at The Hague in the Netherlands, a hub of international law and diplomacy. You’ll see a sea of red shirts : Protesters walked a 3-mile (5-kilometer) loop around the city center of The Hague, to symbolically create the red line against genocide. And then we will go right to New Haven, Connecticut, where Schiller Institute activist Ben Wesley participated in a Pro-Palestine rally. Wesley was organizing for the LaRouche Oasis Plan for economic development and for dialogue!

In an open letter to the newly-elected Pope Leo XIV, Schiller Institute Chairwoman Helga Zepp-LaRouche expressed the basis of true peace as lying in the recognition of the interest of the other. She said, “We wish to communicate to your Holiness our commitment to try everything in our power, to reach out to all Christians, as well as believers of other religions and world outlooks, to unify in an effort to establish a true peace order in the world, one which eliminates the real causes for war by taking into account the valid security interests of all parties.” While regional conflicts are raging in several parts of the world—several of which have the potential of escalating to nuclear Armageddon—a promising chance for peace in the NATO-Russia conflict began yesterday with talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul. This marks the beginning of such talks since early April of 2022, when Boris Johnson intervened to sabotage a peaceful resolution based on no entry of Ukraine into NATO and recognition of Crimea as being a part of Russia. Above all, if peaceful negotiations between nations in regional hotspots are to be successful, a recognition in the humanity of the “Other” is required, as expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin during an event commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in Russia. Putin’s expressed gratitude to the U.S. and other allies who fought in the Second World War for their role in opening the western front against Nazi Germany, and for supporting the Soviet Union through the Lend Lease Program, also coincides with his view of the appreciation of the “Other” as the basis for true statecraft. The idea of peace through economic development as the basis for overcoming war is also an expression of Agape, or Love, in recognition of the better interests of the other. The fatal flaw in U.S. foreign and domestic policy, is the abandonment of this idea. On May 9, Russia also officially celebrates Victory Day in what they call the Great Patriotic War, when Germany’s surrender was formally signed in Berlin. Heads of state and government of 29 nations—including BRICS members China, Brazil and Egypt—are gathered in Moscow this week for the Victory Parade and related activities. In the weeks leading up to May 9, Russia’s top leadership have singled out, with pinpoint accuracy, the role of Great Britain as the force behind the rise of Nazi Germany and the power that urged them to drive east into Russia, in sharp contrast to the role played by the United States in defense of democracy and sovereignty—noting, as well, that this is the crucial lesson to be drawn for today. In March of 2001, Lyndon LaRouche delivered this keynote address to an EIR seminar in Berlin, Germany addressing the perspectives for recovery from the ongoing worldwide financial and monetary breakdown crisis. The one-day conference, which gathered over 100 policymakers, diplomats, institutional representatives, and press, centered on the theme, “America: From Economic Miracle to Nightmare: How To Overcome the Financial and Economic Crisis.” LaRouche sharply contrasted the American intellectual tradition, typified by Hamilton, Lincoln and FDR with what he termed the "American Tories" peddling British-style "free trade" and globalization. LaRouche's historical overview of this battle for the General Welfare going back to the 15th century is essential study for all those seriously interested in understanding what became the American System of Political Economy.

Unless those in the United States continue to willingly avoid reality, the fact that we are now heading towards a systemic breakdown crisis in the trans-Atlantic sector today, cannot be avoided. Though the Trump Administration embarks on a different path with Russia than the previous Biden Administration, there is a clear fight being waged by the war hawks to derail the progress that has so far been made. The attacks on Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, by nasty neocons like Michael McFaul and John Bolton in the New York Post, makes this battle within the administration very clear. Meanwhile, another war threatens to detonate in the India-Pakistan theater on the basis of a terrorist incident in Indian-controlled Kashmir, where both countries are nuclear powers and openly threatening to use those weapons. While the majority of those two countries’ leaders are set on blaming each other, an insightful comment was made by Pakistan’s Defense Minister, who pointed the finger at ‘outside forces’ for deploying terrorism in the region, particularly naming Great Britain as one of the main provocateurs in the region for the last thirty years. On April 30, 1975, the disastrous Vietnam War had ignominiously ended, 50 years ago. It was that war, launched after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, which put the United States on the path of imperialism, a policy path which previous leaders Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy had been vigorously opposed to. American troops who fought in the Second World War, which ended 80 years ago, fought against the forces of fascism and were ignited by outlook expressed by Roosevelt to end British imperialism. That war’s victory is being celebrated throughout Russia and China today. Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a three-day truce between Russia and Ukraine, commencing May 8-10, to commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe. That is just one step towards creating a new, security and development architecture for Europe, and all nations of the world. Friends of the International Peace Coalition, It is hard to avoid the reality that we are witness to a full-scale, systemic breakdown crisis underway in the West. British geopolitics, including the deployment of terrorists, threatens to detonate yet another war, this time in the India-Pakistan theater—where both countries are nuclear powers and are openly threatening to use those weapons. We are also witness to the U.S. government continuing to enable the genocide underway in Gaza, just as Joe Biden did, this time arguing before the International Court of Justice in favor of the Netanyahu government’s "right" to banish UNRWA—the major source of organized food and other aid to starving Palestinians—from Gaza and the West Bank. But to "bear witness unto the truth" means responsibility to act. But it’s an entropic motion. And I think what we have to do, is, we have to give people that sense that humanity is, in one sense growing up, and it’s quite natural that they would turn at many places in the world to Lyn’s ideas, because from all the thinkers, from Confucius, Leibniz, Kepler, whoever else—I mean, Lyn has taken all of these tendencies a step forward, and he has, in his entire life’s work, given the world a way how to become coherent. And I think it’s very clear that all the forces who are striving toward this, eventually recognize that. And I think what it means is that what we have to do in the United States, and in Europe, is to make people conscious of that, and actually only the good-meaning people have to take a really relatively small step: and that is, to consciously reject the idea that you need an enemy, that confrontation is the way to go, to take the step instead to cooperation. And then, everything will fall into place.” Zepp-LaRouche also emphasized two tasks facing all friends of humanity: First, to stop the escalation of warfare. Second, to recognize the failure of the policy behind the warfare and to initiate a new, correct policy. Governments in Europe are unpopular because they act on behalf of corporate cartels, not the interests of their people. Four months into the Trump Administration, the world is confronted with a wave of chaos. There is a struggle within the Trump Administration, particularly around its commitment to restore its relations with Russia. The same is reflected in the “war-no war” split in the Administration on Iran. Nations attempting to “find order” in the Trump Administration’s approach to policy making are baffled, but what is certainly undeniable is Trump’s efforts to normalize Russian-American relations, in the midst of the erratic, hawkish responses by the trans-Atlantic establishment in Western Europe. Incoming German chancellor Friedrich Merz, for example, has insanely doubled down on his intention to send Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine. The head of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service has responded, stating that, in the event of a NATO-backed attack against Russia, damage would certainly “be inflicted on the entire NATO bloc.” The President and his team, however, have a major cultural flaw—they are being soft on the poisonous “special relationship” with Great Britain. Those British forces, as well as their cronies in Europe, are absolutely determined to decapitate his Presidency. They intend to give Trump the “financial regime change treatment” former Bank of England head turned Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke about in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2019. They may use the collapse of the financial markets, as partially referenced by several unfriendly City of London-linked media publications. Vice President J.D. Vance, in his April 14th interview with the British publication UnHerd, showed the Administration’s susceptibility to British seduction when he said, “(Trump) admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship. And he’s a businessman and has a number of important business relationships in [Britain]…. And of course, fundamentally America is an Anglo country.” Contrary to that view, the United States was founded as the polar opposite to unbridled Anglo-Dutch imperialism in the late 18th Century. The drive to end all forms of colonialism and financial looting is embedded in the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the Federal Constitution—especially its Preamble—and was later manifested in economic form by Alexander Hamilton’s four reports on a National Bank, the constitutionality of such a bank, public credit, and the need for manufacturing. As we begin the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our Republic, let us look to the Platonic roots of our nation embodied in the European Renaissance that paved the way for it's existence nearly 600 years ago. On April 9, the same day that Trump’s nation-specific tariffs took effect, Trump announced a 90-day pause on those tariffs for most nations—the well-behaved ones—with the notable exception of China, on whom Trump brazenly announced a 125% tariff, because of the "lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets," and in retaliation for China’s announced reciprocal 84% tariff on US imports. Looming in the background of the bravado and news headlines is a financial system which is ready to blow sky-high, perhaps beginning in the bond market, and which, in its terminal condition, could not be saved by any amount of liquidity pumping or bailout. Add to this picture—because it is an integral part of the same system—the multiple flashpoints of war that still loom. At the moment, a meeting, or perhaps indirect negotiation, between US and Iranian representatives is planned for April 12 in Oman—a hopeful step toward diffusing a war that could quickly turn nuclear—while at the same time, the US amasses weaponry in the region and announces new sanctions targeting Iran’s nuclear program. Conditions have not yet been agreed upon for an end to the war in Ukraine, and Israel proceeds in its genocidal liquidation of Gaza. Moments like this must give us pause to think, along with Dr. Martin Luther King, that "only when it’s dark enough, can you see the stars." The fact that there is no solution within the dying geopolitical system of empire, war, and Wall St. means that the only way out is via the creation of a new system, a new paradigm, based on entirely different axioms than the current one. Much has been made of Trump’s newly announced tariffs targeting nations to solve trade irregularities. On April 9th, the same day they took effect, Trump suddenly reversed his policy and announced a 90-day pause on those tariffs “for most nations” with the exception of China, where the U.S. has now brazenly adopted a 125% tariff. Figures in the Trump Administration, such as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro, have misadvised Trump in this dangerous adventure while making claims that U.S. manufacturing will be revived. What these people do not understand is what’s critical for every American citizen to wrap their heads around right now, namely, Lyndon LaRouche’s discoveries in the field of physical economy, which are the ideas which actually built the United States into an industrial power. As LaRouche forecasted on July 25, 2007, in an international webcast just before the 2008 financial collapse, the world monetary system is now in the process of disintegrating, and can no longer continue to exist under any circumstances, no matter how much liquidity is pumped into the system.
