On Monday, Aug. 18, President Donald Trump hosted acting Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and seven European leaders at the White House for a series of meetings on ending the conflict in Ukraine, following up on his Alaska summit last Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a statement following the discussions, Trump reported two primary outcomes of those meetings: 1) moving toward a bilateral meeting between President Putin and President Zelenskyy, followed by a trilateral meeting including President Trump; and 2) discussions of security guarantees for Ukraine, “provided by the various European Countries, with a coordination with the United States of America.” Prior to and during the meeting, those security guarantees were the obsession of the European leaders who had scrambled to Washington to back Ukraine as the last bastion against “the evil Russian invader.” It isn’t known exactly what kind of security guarantees were discussed behind closed doors, and, as with many things, the devil is in the details. While Russia will never accept European and NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine—especially with long-range missile capability—that is exactly what the British have been calling for, and it is quite unlikely that the Coalition of the Willing has so quickly suffered a change of heart. What is needed for the world is true security, which comes not in preparing for war and deterring the enemy through military might, as heard in the hyperventilating proclamations of the geopolitically minded, warmongering European leaders; the true content of security, and of peace, is development. This indisputable fact rests upon the authority of natural law: Mankind is a one—a unified species whose fundamental characteristic is creative discovery. The maximum development of the creative capacity of our species across the entire planet is in the best interest of every person in every nation. This principle is enshrined in the American Declaration of Independence as the Leibnizian “pursuit of happiness.” The shift in the world that began in the Aug. 15 Alaska summit between President Trump and President Putin, away from the precipice of confrontation between nuclear powers, must be seen against the backdrop of the larger, tectonic shift occurring in the world order. The geopolitical, unipolar system is over, and more and more nations of the world, such as the BRICS+ nations, are reorganizing themselves into new modes of cooperation and collaboration for long-overdue development. This was expressed in a statement by President Putin on the website of the Vladivostok Eastern Economic Forum, whose upcoming meeting begins September 3: “We have identified the development of the Far East as a national priority for the entire 21st century. The importance and correctness of this decision has been confirmed by life itself, by the challenges we have faced recently, and, most importantly, by the real trends that are gaining momentum in the global economy, where the key business ties, trade routes, and in general, the entire vector of development are increasingly reorienting toward the East and the Global South.” Helga Zepp-LaRouche has called for the crucial next steps to be taken coming out of the Trump-Putin summit: President Trump must go to Beijing for the September 3rd 80th anniversary commemoration of the end of World War II and there meet with Presidents Xi Jinping and Putin; to cement a new direction for the world, away from the forever wars of the British Empire, those three Presidents must agree to lead a new mode of economic development among nations, spearheaded by the Bering Strait tunnel project.

One of the important reasons for the Alaska summit, which may still be ongoing as you read this email, is not merely a cessation of hostilities between Ukraine and Russia. In fact, that may not even come about as a result of this first discussion between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. The Russians have repeatedly stressed that the most important aspect of this dialogue is that it is occurring at all. Consider how insane it is that the two leading nuclear superpowers, each with the capacity to destroy the world many times over, have not been able to communicate without the mainstream media and various intelligence operatives going into overdrive to sabotage such a dialogue. Years ago, former American presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche became a champion of the Bering Strait transport corridor as a crucial component of a new economic order. The War Hawks run by the City of London oligarchs are on a rampage, out to disrupt the Trump-Putin summit this Friday in Alaska. They want the war in Ukraine against Russia to continue, not just because they profit from war, but because their control over the global economy is threatened by peace.

As of now, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will be meeting next Friday, Aug. 15th, in Alaska, merely 40 miles from Russia. The British Empire is in conniptions about it. Such a meeting is a significant development in the direction of Helga Zepp-LaRouche’s proposal for a September 3 meeting of Presidents Trump, Xi Jinping, and Putin. Today, 80 years ago, the second atomic bomb was dropped in Nagasaki killing over 70,000 people. Contrary to popular atomic folklore, the two bombs were not dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to capitulate a hardened, irrational Japanese fighting force, but was done for the purpose of establishing a British-led imperial system over the world, monopolizing nuclear weapons for the purpose of scaring nations into giving up their own sovereignty. That perverted mindset is was expressed in Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s “Operation Unthinkable,” that a total war, including even preemptive nuclear war, would be launched against the Soviet Union after World War II. The lesson of “Never Again!” following the end of the Second World War has been replaced with genocidal warfare now being conducted in the Gaza Strip, which has become the new Hiroshima. As Lt. Col. Anthony Aguilar, a 25-year-old combat veteran who went to the Gaza Strip as a private contractor to supposedly provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, told the 1000+ grouping of the International Peace Coalition, “A day of atonement, a day of judgment, a day of reckoning is coming.... Now is the time ... not next week, not next year, not after. Now is the time for the United States to stand and hold accountable our ally. Because if we do not, the world is going to hold us accountable right alongside them—right alongside Israel—and it will not be to the benefit of Israel, the United States, and, quite frankly, the world” How can humanity atone for the senseless loss of life in the Gaza Strip? To President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin: When you are meeting in Alaska on August 15, the fate of humanity lies in your hands. Against all the attempts by the opponents of peace, you can not only bring the war in Ukraine to an end, and with it eliminate the Sword of Damocles of the nuclear extinction of the human species at least over this conflict, but you can also reintroduce diplomacy into the relation of the two most powerful nuclear nations on the planet. But there is something even more elevated you can do, by not only fighting off the threats facing mankind, but by giving the whole world a beautiful vision for the future. You could agree to build a corridor across the Bering Strait, and with that rail and tunnel project unite the rail systems of Eurasia with those of the Americas. This project would open up for development the vast untapped resources of Siberia, as well as the U.S. Arctic resources of oil, gas, precious metals of all kinds, as well as fresh water. Siberia and the Russian Far East hold the largest deposits of raw materials of all the elements which one can find in Mendeleyev‘s Periodic Table, and the joint development of these resources, to which many other resource-poor countries could be invited, could become the perfect war-avoidance program and greatly enhance the prosperity of the world. In the not so distant future, one could then travel by high-speed railroad around the world, from the most southern tips of Argentina and Chile in Ushuaia and Puerto Williams, all way through the Americas, then through the Bering Strait, across Eurasia, then with a tunnel under the Strait of Gibraltar, travel all the way through the African continent to the Cape of Good Hope. The Bering Strait Tunnel project has been studied and promoted over decades by leading scientific and political figures in the United States, Russia and China, as is documented in the attached set of articles from EIR magazine, dating back to 2007, as well as an 8-minute video prepared by Dr. Victor Razbegin, deputy chairman of the SOPS, Russia’s Council for the Study of Productive Forces, which won the Grand Prize for Innovation at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. President Trump’s approach to diplomacy has shocked the world. Just in the last several days, he has levied new, grave threats against Russia, Brazil, and now India—among others—in an apparently flailing attempt to squeeze a modicum of “success” out of his recent policy initiatives. While some will undoubtedly buckle to this kind of imperious pressure, as with the embarrassing case last week of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU, an increasing majority in the world are resisting, including nuclear powers such as Russia and China. Threats and bullying of this sort can never win the peace, and at best, will only postpone conflicts into the future; but Trump’s most recent remarks with regard to Russia are unhinged enough to bring the world back to the brink of nuclear war. Speaking on George Galloway’s MOATS show on Aug. 3, former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter noted that, when Trump mentioned he would be deploying two Ohio-class nuclear submarines “in the appropriate regions” in response to a tweet from Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, it can’t be ruled out that he’s preparing for a preemptive “decapitation” strike on Russia. Whether or not Trump intends this, Russia will absolutely have to take it into consideration as a real possibility. Even more so following the U.S.’ surprise attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, launched despite the fact that the U.S. was actively conducting peace talks with the Iranian government, and that Trump has now been whittling down the days to a supposed deadline for Russia to “make a deal” on Ukraine. Ritter also claimed that it was an identical circumstance in the 1980s—with the deployment of medium-range Pershing II missiles to Germany, and American nuclear submarines stationed close enough to Russia to launch a lower-trajectory strike—that was the impetus for Russia to develop its “dead-hand” system in the case of an attempted decapitation attack. Trump is now recreating this situation again today. However, it must be stated that, despite Trump’s erratic and naïve behavior, he is not the architect of this policy, but merely the fool implementing it. One must look to the likes of the U.K.’s Malcolm Chalmers, the former Deputy Director of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), and now Strategic Advisor to the Defense Secretary, who argued earlier this year that the U.K. should launch a tactical nuclear warhead on a Russian military base as a “demonstration strike” from a forward-deployed nuclear submarine. These types of British imperial actors are keen on creating the kind of environment that would pull Trump into their desired war with Russia, China, and the BRICS more generally, despite his earlier good intentions. If we are to steer this administration off its present course toward confrontation with a large part of the world, we must set our sights on the real enemy behind the proverbial curtain. The new document reveals yet further details of the determination by those principal actors behind the fabrication of Russiagate to start a confrontation with Russia, even despite the “lack of direct evidence.” Shedding the personal passions and prejudices surrounding Trump, and identifying the actual intention on the part of those trying to control his administration, is the only way we can pull the world back from the brink of war and pave the way to a new security and development architecture that establishes a new basis for peaceful relations among the world’s community of nations. On the anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we honor those that were lost and demand that nuclear war and genocide never be committed. When former South African Foreign Minister Pandor told a meeting of the International Peace Coalition that it is time for the "adults in the room" to emerge, she was warning about a moment like the present. President Trump announced on Friday he was ordering nuclear submarines to deploy to "appropriate regions", in response to a provocative tweet from former Russian President Medvedev. He acknowledged that this could lead to "unintended consequences." Continue the political mobilization around the world. Join the International Peace Coalition this Friday with Ray McGovern, Luiz Erthal, Mossi Raz and reports from the UN and China. On July 27, the United States imposed a broad trade deal with the European Union which included the imposition of 15% tariffs on all EU exports to the United States—a “deal” which will further devastate the once-strong physical economies of Germany, France, Italy, and other nations. Although the numbers change from day to day, the U.S. now has either tariffs or threatened tariffs in place of: 15% on the EU; 25% on India; 50% on China; 50% on Brazil; 19% on Indonesia; 30% on South Africa; 25-30% on Mexican and Canadian goods not covered by the USMCA; and, of course, the total sanctions on Russia—among others. A good starting point to understand what’s really behind the tariff warfare against the world, is to note that the purported architect of that trade policy, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, is also one of the prime movers of the cryptocurrency and stablecoin frenzy sweeping Washington and the world. Lutnick’s Wall Street investment bank, Cantor Fitzgerald, is the investment manager for Tether, the largest stablecoin on the market. And “Lutnick appears to have ‘sold’ candidate Donald Trump in 2024 on the argument that cryptocurrencies will ‘drive the demand for Treasuries worldwide’ and ‘ensure dollar dominance indefinitely,’” EIR’s Paul Gallagher has reported. So what we are looking at is far worse than simple, beggar-thy-neighbor bullying. Rather, the Trump tariffs are a key element of the City of London and Wall Street global looting policy to—yet again—try to prop up their unpayable $2 quadrillion speculative financial bubble with booty from around the world, combined with a vast new flood of funny-money under the rubric of crypto-currency and stablecoins. Will all of this work? Highly unlikely. Consider the response of Brazilian President Lula da Silva to the threatened 50% tariffs, scheduled to take effect this Friday, Aug. 1. He told the New York Times July 30 that “Brazil will negotiate as a sovereign country…. If the United States doesn’t want to buy something of ours, we are going to look for someone who will. We have an extraordinary trade relationship with China…. I have no preference. I have an interest in selling to whoever wants to buy from me—to whoever pays more.” Other nations that, like Brazil, are part of the BRICS, are getting the same treatment from Washington and London. And, with fits and starts, they have all begun to shift their global trade patterns away from the United States and towards fellow nations of the Global Majority. India, for example, purchased less than 1% of its oil imports from Russia before the Ukraine war; in June of 2025, it surpassed 43%. India is highly dependent on crude oil imports to meet its domestic needs, getting some 87% from imports. The lack of serious, well-built flood-control and water-management infrastructure in the Hill County of Texas, and especially on the Guadalupe River, is the predominant reason why heavy rains were able to turn into heavy floods. As a result of the July 4 flooding, as of now 120 people are dead, and that number is expected to grow. Had the infrastructure been built, it is likely that more than 85% of those who died would now be alive. If we are to prevent such deadly occurrences in the future, then all of the passing lies and fairytales, such as blaming these tragedies on "climate change," must be thrown aside and replaced by real flood control infrastructure projects, typified by what FDR did with the Tennessee Valley Authority in the 1930s, and what JFK continued in the 1960s. The Wall Street-City of London budget-cutters as well as some radical environmentalists may join together to oppose it, but the construction of this infrastructure is what will save lives.
