608 | What It's Really Like In The Moment
In this episode, I am sharing a personal story a real-time shift, and how to navigate through the muck. It's always important that we share our own story, sometimes we are walking through a ton of things that are outside of our control and we can only share our story. The old me would fight like hell through every single challenge that crossed my path, mostly on my own until I realized I was wasting a crap ton of energy and realized nothing was changing. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) Today I am sharing a personal story, and I wanted to share what it is really like in the moment navigating challenges. These are some of the tools that I use: I feel, I reach out and ask for help/support to shift my energy (not the fix-it friends, the holding space friends). Choosing to stay stuck in it is exhausting and changes nothing. I don't rush this phase I do my best to move through it. It takes days, sometimes a week or longer to shift it, but the longer you stay stuck in the muck, the harder it is to move. 2) One key reminder that allows me to move forward and this goes back to when we were walking through the most difficult years of our lives. First, I would remind myself that I was in the position because I could handle it, I was the person to find a way out, and I always had the answers, I might not like the answers, but I knew what the answers were. The second reframe was the question "Did I make the best decision that I could at the time with the information that I had?" Tomorrow or the next day I might have different information but at that time I had this information. 3) The wolf that lives is the one you feed. If you feed the anger, resentment, lies, etc, there are no solutions there. None. Which means no change either. When you feed the fear, the negative emotions and vibrations they only grow. 4) The final question I ask myself is "How can I get bigger than the problem, and what if you do have the ability and skills to find your way out? Getting bigger than the problem is being open to possibilities, potential people to cross your paths, and new insight. Letting go of an old decision. 607 | Are You Growing Your Self-Confidence?
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on self-confidence, are you growing it or squashing it, and what self-confidence actually means. Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weaknesses well and have a positive view of yourself. You set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively, and can handle criticism. The challenge is that your external results will NEVER exceed your internal identity, what you believe you are worth, or what you deserve. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) Confidence is believing in yourself, feeling comfortable in your true self, knowing you have worth. If you are confident, people believe you, confidence is attractive, brings success, helps to connect well with others and you generally feel happier. 2) This can start simply by creating promises with yourself and following through with them consistently, from the workout, water, food, screen time, rest, honouring your needs, and the standards you have set for yourself. The higher the standard, the deeper the self-confidence goes, always challenge yourself to do one more rep! 3) Doorway trigger, say a sentence that leads to confidence when you enter a room, you are shifting your internal energy and what you are looking for and expecting to find. It's also important to look at the root of why there is a lack of self-confidence, through TIME techniques, NLP tools and subconscious reprogramming you can get to the root of the issue. With no formal training or Harvard degree, Vic has managed to carve out a niche in the literary world. When he's not shamelessly promoting his books, Vic is a frequent guest on the nationally syndicated radio show Sterling on Sunday. In this episode, we discuss: 1) Vic shares his behind-the-scenes stories from years as a NYPD detective turned multi-published author and podcaster. 605 | The Gripping Hold Of Shame
In this episode, I am sharing a perspective and insight on the power of shame and how it is blocking us from being seen authentically. Releasing shame is one of the first steps to starting to share your story and this is the first step we will be moving through with the authors in the Write Your Damn Book Mastermind. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) Shame can only be released by giving yourself some grace. Sometimes we have shame and we don't even know what they are, it's not our shame to carry it but we do, we pile it on. They're not our bags, and this shame is stored in our body and in our emotions and will show up, and block you until you can release it. 2) Shame, body, heart, grace, when you feel awkward, that is a shame being activated. When we see someone expressing themselves, we feel awkward and disconnected because the part inside of us wants to be seen and not hold that anymore. Shame gives you the signal that it is not safe to be you. The fascia has no linearity of time, it doesn't care about the past or future, our fascia remembers as it happened one second ago, it is connected to our self-protection. Our subconscious mind is our body and that is where we store 95+% of our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, decisions, and self-doubt. Your fascia believes it is in the same moment that it was 40-50 years ago. It jumps into self-protection, fascia is always protecting you from the environment. 3) Shame is everything, it is an iron blanket on our shoulders, and it weighs us down and holds us back from our authentic expression. When you say "I am me" your body relaxes and allows, and you being you shift mountains. People will feel you because you can't be wrong being you. #604: The Story and The Narrative
In this episode, I am sharing a reframe of the story vs. the narrative of the story. The story is the story, it is the details of the event, simply the facts. The facts have no emotion, no bearing, no personal responsibility, blame, or meaning behind them. The narrative of the story is what creates the problem that keeps us stuck in a loop of a story that we don't want to be in. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) The story is the facts, and bringing yourself back to the facts allows you to stick to the facts. When we are in a more neutral emotional and energetic state we can respond vs. react and see possibilities that are in front of us to create change. We must be willing to let go of the old story before we can allow the new story to unfold. 2) We only accept, believe, and surrender to the thoughts that are equal to our emotional state. The stronger the emotions to the narrative of the story that we are holding onto, the more we are aligned to that experience or emotional state, and then the more the brain freezes and takes a snapshot. That memory is something that we keep replaying and it actually creates a chemistry of when it happened the first time and then our subconscious mind re-creates that event over and over again. 602 | It's Not Breaking You Down
In this episode, I am sharing a reframe of a statement or language that we all fall into using. What if the obstacles in front of you are not there to break you down or see how badly you want something? What if they aren't breaking you down at all, but they are shaping you into the person that you are capable of being? In today's episode, we discuss: 1) The ocean smashes into the rock thousands of times a day and if you look at the rocks in one day, you will see no change to the rocks. Over time the waves break down the rocks because they are persistent and consistent on a daily basis. You are the waves, breaking down your challenges every day by the action steps you continue to take over and over again. 2) These are compound actions that you can't see in isolation, they add up more than you realize or think are possible. Your sustained effort will wear down the obstacles in your path and eventually, the things that took you out at the knees will become speed bumps in the road for you that you trip over and they become a misstep and you catch your balance again. As a result, you continue to shape into the person you are capable of becoming, and confidence, and resilience continue to grow. 601 | What If You Are Closer Than You Think?
In this episode, I am sharing a quick message, mindset shift on what if you are closer than you think? Regardless of what the goal is, however, "long you feel it will take" will dictate how you choose to show up. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) The intention, the energy, and the focus of how you choose to show up are directly related to how far away it feels for you. 2) You will change the results you create by this one shift alone. 599 | Ask and Allow Yourself to Receive
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on asking and allowing yourself to receive. As we approach the release of episode #600, which is crazy and exciting, I am sharing an experience with one of my mentors and colleagues on asking and receiving. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) Giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin. In order to give at a much deeper and fulfilling level, it comes from fully allowing yourself to receive on a deeper level. 2) As we are nearing the celebration of episode #600, I am asking if this show has spoke to you in the past, that you share a video clip, something that spoke to you in the past, tag us on social media, and pay it forward. We are asking from a space of full appreciation for your time, energy, and support in the growth of this show! Stay tuned for episode #600, it is an incredible episode! 597 | What You Bury, You Carry With You
Connect with us on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts about unexpressed emotions and how we end up carrying what we are trying to avoid dealing with. Sigmund Freud said, "Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways." We become closed — not only to people's pain — but also to their happiness. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) The emotions always come before the thoughts. We feel everything before we can think the thought and comprehend what we are feeling. 2) The effects of suppressed emotions include anxiety, depression, and other stress-related illnesses. This suppression can lead to alcohol and substance abuse. We actually disconnect from ourselves and have a hard time knowing what it is that we actually want. It blocks our intuition with ourselves. 3) The tools of NLP, subconscious reprogramming tools, RRT (Rapid Release Therapy) to continue to release the emotions that are not serving or supporting you. 596 | What You Didn't Know About Resiliency
In this episode, I am sharing some takeaways from a book I am reading on resiliency. The book is called "The 5 Practices of Highly Resilient People", by Dr. Taryn Marie Stejskal, and I am only part way through and the concept is so freaking powerful. It starts with asking yourself "what story would people think I was crazy, if they knew about me?" That is the vulnerability story that builds resistance and also builds resiliency. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The practice of vulnerability is a foundational piece of resilience. To allow yourself to be vulnerable is to allow your inside self, your doubts, fears, insecurities and your authentic self to be seen by the outside world. Can you allow it to be consistent, aka, the same person? When it is the same person that the world sees, this is called congruence, so the practice of vulnerability is a lifelong practice of letting our inner and outer world be congruent with each other. 2) The more congruent we can be, the more we can actually handle hard times of challenge without burning up a ton of energy trying to do or be something that we are not. 3) There are 3 main fears that people experience with vulnerability, and Dr. Taryn calls this Vulnerability Bias, and it is the fear that if we let people see our true authentic selves, they will not like us; they might not love us; or they might leave us. This keeps us in a cage that we are in by choice, holding the key and not allowing ourselves out of. Vulnerability has the ability to be a strength and a superpower, instead of a weakness. That is how it becomes a pillar of resiliency and a muscle we are continuously building. With a straightforward account of one man's journey, he inspires audiences nationwide and shows how to be resilient and to persevere no matter what disadvantages and life struggles may happen In this episode we discuss: 1) Some low points in Jason's story, overcoming osteomyelitis, being identified as having a learning disability, many challenges during his 31 years in the army and how he continued to move forward, not quit, build his grit, perseverance and persistence. 2) The vulnerable experience of writing his book, sharing his story and what his body physically and physiologically experienced with releasing these stories and trauma that his body had held onto for years. 594 | What's Stopping You From Writing Your Book
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts to support you in writing your book. Maybe you have had a deep knowing that you were meant to write a book, you want to share your story and you are stuck in the cycle of overwhelm with where to start; concerned with what others might think of you for sharing your story or you might be wondering who your story could help or if it is big enough to share? Every single writer starts insecure, unsure, and afraid. We start with fear, and sometimes even terror, gripping us. And sadly, for some authors, these fears stop them from ever writing their book at all. In today's episode, we discuss: 1) A lot of the reasons why people don't write include saying, "I'm too busy to write, I don't want to be judged, my story is too small, I'm too scared of not doing it right or good enough (aka being a perfectionist); literally feeling unworthy of bringing that big dream to life. 2) This is what I would do instead, I would paint a clear picture of the reader holding the finished book, tapping into all of my senses. I would focus on it being done because it already is. I would uncover any blocks, limiting beliefs that were stopping me from starting: overwhelm; belief that my story wasn't important enough, and fear of what others might think of me for sharing my story. 3) I would anchor in a new empowering belief that: I can write from a grounded, calm space with full certainty of my story; that I am perfectly designed to help the person that I once was, and a knowing that my story can support people who I haven't met yet. I would create and use subconscious reprogramming to anchor in and support these new empowering beliefs, like EFT Tapping, Hypnosis, and Subliminals. 593 | How To Create Effortless Results
In this episode, I am sharing the concept of creating results using your conscious vs your subconscious mind, and the difference between the two. Conscious change is hard, takes consistent effort and feels like you're starting over and over again. Conscious change is using ~ 5% of your brain's capacity and ability to create change. Subconscious change is using the 95% powerhouse part of your brain), creates effortless, lasting change. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Conscious change includes writing more to do to lists, journaling your goals, making another vision board, creating another plan to start again, hiring another coach, buying another program thinking this is going to be the one that fixes it. Strategy is only a tiny piece of the puzzle. 2) Subconscious change includes getting to the root of the issue, uncovering the subconscious blocks, limiting beliefs as to why you might not fully believe that it is possible for you, and using tools and techniques to anchor in the changes you desire to create. All of this sets you up for success to create lasting change with ease and effortlessness. 3) I am sharing that this past week I worked with 3 clients on tools and techniques to change behaviours that they have been "fighting, shaming themselves for, and starting and re-starting over and over again." 592 | Getting To The "Why" Of Addiction with Joe Tlustos
In this episode we are speaking with Peer Coach, Joe Tlustos. Joe suffered from multiple addictions (including opioids, alcohol and others) for more than 20 years, mainly due to undiagnosed mental health conditions including Bipolar Disorder II, severe depression, anxiety and adult ADHD. Joe voluntarily entered inpatient treatment in November of 2008 and has been in recovery ever since. Prior to getting well, he spent more than 35 years in the broadcast media industry as an Emmy-award winning program director, on-air talent and talent coach. Joe started as a peer coach in 2017. In that time, he has helped hundreds of people from all walks of life find lasting wellness from addiction. He's learned a number of important lessons along the way and continues to share them with his members. He's experienced as a coach and a peer in that place where highly creative talent, mental health and addiction intersect. In this episode we discuss: 1) The importance of going slow to go fast, sometimes we are being asked to slow down, to tap in, to feed ourselves, take care of ourselves first, and none of it is a sign of weakness. 2) We have a current epidemic of loneliness, feeling as though we are lacking connection, not belonging or fitting in, and we're not as powerless as we think we are. 591 | What Got You Here Won't Get You There
In this episode, I am sharing some personal thoughts of something I have been walking through. It is based on the quote, "What got you here, won't get you there," by Marshall Goldsmith. The basis of the quote refers to the fact that 'Successful people become great leaders when they learn to shift the focus from themselves to others.' I had a real life experience that brought this quote to the forefront in my life and I knew I wanted to share it with you. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Honour what got you here first. What lessons have you learned because of what you walked through, and are they serving you? Be ridiculously honest with yourself and this question. 2) What is not serving you and what do you need to let go of? 3) Picture that it is a part of you that is literally releasing, dying or letting go of because you no longer need it, it is not necessary for your success and it may actually hinder or block you from receiving all that is possible for you. 590 | Can You Allow Yourself To Be Disliked?
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts about authenticity and how it is connected with our ability to let ourselves be disliked. This is a tough one as so many of us have struggled with pleasing people, wanting to be liked, not wanting to rock the boat or upset others. We may struggle to be authentic due to lack of self-esteem, fear of judgment by others, and a strong desire for others to like us. In today's episode we discuss: 1) A "people pleaser" personality means a person feels a strong urge to please others, even at their own expense. They may feel that their wants and needs do not matter or alter their personality around others. People-pleasing prioritizes the needs of others at the expense of your own, while kindness requires giving equal consideration to the needs of others and to your own. 2) Authenticity means you're true to your own personality, values, and spirit, regardless of the pressure that you're under to act otherwise. When you recognize that you're ok with being disliked, then you will allow yourself more space or leeway to be authentic with yourself and with others. 588 | How Can You Share A Story Authentically
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts from a previous masterclass on how to share a story authentically and what authentic storytelling is. When it comes to sharing a story, writing a book, or even building an online brand it comes from who you are as a person, what you have walked through and knowing that you are your brand. It's important to learn how to share it authentically. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Start with discovering your authentic story. What makes you unique, what experiences, stories, emotions and lessons have you learned that have shaped you into the person you are today. What moments have defined you? What values and beliefs do you hold true to your core and how can you share that and embrace vulnerability in an open and genuine way. 2) Cultivating authenticity in the world of social media. This starts with embracing your uniqueness, expressing your true self, your quirks, passions and authentic voice, this is how you attract an audience that resonates with your true essence. This requires you to be transparent, honest and open about your journey, and showing the imperfections. This also requires healthy boundaries, and regular check in's with yourself. 2) Storytelling is an art, it carries a lot of immense power, personal power to inspire, connect and create change and it is important that we maintain the integrity of the narratives that we share. Integrity also means being mindful of the responsibility of our stories and to use our stories as a force for positive change, shedding light on important topics. 587 | Are You Willing To Walk In Their Shoes
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on walking in someone else's shoes. To walk a mile in someone else's shoes means before judging someone, you must understand his experiences, challenges, thought processes, etc. We never know someone's full story especially when we think we do, we don't. In today's episode we discuss: 1) This is one of the most common questions I hear on podcasts as a guest, and it is "how do you navigate the judgement and criticism of others when you share your story?" I often say if they are not in the arena with me, on the floor of the arena, then I am not interested in their opinions. 2) Seeing a story from someone else's point of view has given me more perspective, more empathy and allowed me to grow as a person. We also unpacked the differences between therapy, coaching and mentoring and some of the unethical practices of marketing and business in the online space. 3) Vin shared the 3 steps to self-development: anything you do will help you (read the books, listen to the podcasts); go to events, immerse yourself into the environments, the groups to meet more like minded people; and then after you learn more about yourself, look for the specific investment, or mentor to support you on furthering your growth. 584 | How Fast Can You Reframe
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on reframing. Reframing is a strategy that people can use, either on their own or in therapy, to help adjust their mindset. It often involves focusing on more positive thoughts, but it can also be centered on changing excessively high expectations to be more realistic. In this episode we discuss: 1) Reframing is a powerful skill to have as it can give us immediate changes in our feelings about a situation, and make us feel more clear, resourceful, empowered, and optimistic about our circumstances. The steps to reframing include: identifying the pattern of behaviour, the words that need to be changed, establishing communication and ownership with the message, separating behaviours such as naming it or seeing it as a part of you that is trying to keep you safe; taking responsibility and creating a bridge to the future and what you want to create instead of where you currently are. 2) Positive reframing can help you to: reduce stress, build your resiliency muscle, improve relationships, see and act on new opportunities, be more thoughtful, open-minded and kind, find greater happiness in life. 3) Common reframes as an example when it comes to writing a book: Feeling overwhelm, my story isn't big enough; and what will people think, I will share some of the common reframes in relation to this. 583 | What If The Fire Isn't For You?
In this episode, I am sharing a quote that spoke to me deeply, "People who have overcome darkness in their life typically have a fire inside of them that is almost impossible to extinguish." ~Stephen Timoney. It feels like the more darkness or challenges we walk through the more I feel the fire to do something with it. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Suppressing that fire burns me, yet expressing that fire, learning how to share it does 2 things; 1. It sets me free, helps me to heal and solidifies my purpose; 2. It helps me to help others with their stories and that ripple effect pays back in ways I could never fully express. 2) That fire you're walking through, that you've walked through, doesn't have to be for nothing. Maybe you're not walking through it. Maybe it's moving through you to shape you into the person you are capable of becoming. 3) If you're feeling that pull to learn how to heal and support yourself, to find your voice and do something big and impactful with your story, I'm here to support you through it. 580 The Mindset Work Adds Up [Available on Patreon]
In this episode, I am sharing a personal story of how the mindset work adds up, you can do the work for years and then it is required on a whole new level. Mindset work is only in the implementation, the action – it is not in the books and preparation. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Today I am sharing a personal story of how I watched my husband navigate something incredibly challenging, having to let go of what he couldn't control to go on and claim a National Title in Olympic lifting while being completely covered in poison sumac. 579 | Words That Are Blocking You
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on the power of our words, and the words that might be blocking you more than you think. For years I used the words stuck, I felt stuck, why, why me, and all they kept me was stuck in a victim mindset. I learned from Tony Robbins years ago the power of the words we use on repeat and how they can literally create our world. Words such as try, why, can't, just, I don't have time, should etc., are all keeping you stuck in one space in time and are blocking you from moving forward in your life. Your words have power. In today's episode we discuss: 1) What word do you say on repeat that is not serving you and is actually blocking you from moving forward? 2) Track how often you say it, even for a one hour time slot as this starts to build awareness, and then rewrite it in a new empowering way. 3) Ask for some accountability, take ownership and decide that you are changing it Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken2023 Connect with us on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of "When She Stopped Asking Why". 576 | Are You Increasing Or Closing The Gap? [Available on Patreon]
In this episode, I am sharing a thought on how we shame and criticize ourselves for not being where we think we should be and how we are actually increasing the gap or the length of time it takes to create what we desire. I am also referencing the book The Gap and The Gain by Dan Sullivan and Benjamin Hardy . In today's episode we discuss: 1) Every time we shame, judge or criticize ourselves for not being where we think we should be, for not being enough, for buying into the limiting beliefs, we are actually keeping ourselves stuck in the space we say we don't want to be in. Our subconscious mind doesn't understand negatives, it only wants to keep us safe, it's uncomfortable with growth outside of the comfort zone, and it needs massive repetition to create change, until a habit is installed. 2) When these feelings arise, thoughts that are a confirmation of that then arise. Your subconscious mind wants to show you that you are correct. Instead, in the moment, don't reframe it in a fluffy, fake/toxic positive statement. Reframe it in a compassionate statement, honouring the gain of how far you've come in life, how differently you are handling different scenarios now compared to the past, and focus on how far you've come. 3) On the one side of a piece of paper, write down those top 1-3 limiting beliefs that are on repeat, the same statements that you know are not supporting you, and then on the other side of the dividing line, write the reframe that stirs up emotions and is full of so much love and compassion for yourself. As soon as you do this, you change the shame story, you create safety within yourself, you recognize that your feelings are normal and valid. This is how you build more self-trust within yourself because you are actively creating and engaged in finding a solution and creating change within your body. This is flipping the script, speak to yourself as you would a friend, a child, and you will shorten that gap faster than you realize. 575 | What Is It Costing You Not To?
In this episode, I am sharing a question I ask myself on a consistent basis to reframe a thought, a fear, an unknown or if I am having to make a difficult decision. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Every single thing has a price, a dollar value or a time value which is still a dollar value. Look at what your time is worth. Fear is temporary, regret is forever. People are quicker to take steps to cope with failures to live up to their capabilities and potential. 2) Using evidence, what is a message you can give yourself for a time in your life when you didn't think you'd make it through but you did. I was asked this question and the first thing that came up was, "I look back at my younger self, 8 years ago, afraid to show up and use her voice, and I thank her for starting before she was ready and before she had the confidence to do so." That state always reminds me that everything has a cost to it, and we get to decide the price of the regret. 574 | Become Your Own Health Hero with Lyn Delmastro-Thomson
In this episode we are speaking with Energy Healer and Hypnotist, Lyn Delmastro-Thomson. Lyn is a certified hypnotist and energy healer, using the healing systems of BodyTalk and Body Intuitive. She is also a speaker and author of the Amazon Best Seller, You Are Not Your Diagnosis. Lyn holds a master's degree in somatic psychology. After being misdiagnosed with leukemia at the age of 25, Lyn became passionate about sharing with the world her message that just because a doctor has said an illness is "chronic" or "incurable" doesn't mean that it has to be a life sentence, and that western medicine isn't the only approach to healing. When we explore other holistic options, true healing, rather than symptom management, can occur. In this episode we discuss: 1) Lyn shares her experience of being misdiagnosed with leukemia when she was 25. She had to learn to own her power and choices in her healing journey. After continually declining in health yet being told by doctors that the treatment was working and not being given any answers, she had to take her health into her own hands. 2) Lyn learned the power of what she thinks and believes has a HUGE impact on her health and well-being and I have to choose to work with her mind to create health. 573 | Thoughts or Beliefs - Who's In Charge [Available on Patreon]
In this episode, I am sharing my perspective on thoughts or beliefs and who's in charge. We dive into the relationship between emotions, thoughts and beliefs through the lens of NLP. In today's episode we discuss: 1) From neurological research, the sensory input always goes through the emotional centres of the brain before it reaches the frontal cortex — the place for our rational thought. With that understanding, one must realize it is actually physically impossible for thought to come before emotions. 2) Our thoughts are only ever replaying the past or predicting the future. A belief is a thought you continue to have, and the faster you can interrupt and replace a thought will determine what you see, what you believe and what you create. 572 | Playing The "What If" Game
In this episode I am sharing some a message that I heard after a recent interview with Michael Hingson, and how as humans we play a constant what if game and if we could be more like a dog and let things go and move on, or as Ted Lasso says, "be the goldfish" and forget it. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The what if game is putting a ton of emphasis and pressure into future events, trying to predict how they will turn out, what might happen, who will say what, how we will react etc, and we are playing with a ton of unknowns. Plus we have no idea how we will react or what it will look like. The most difficult moments in my life, I couldn't have predicted or planned and definitely couldn't have opened up a book to figure out how I would respond. 2) What if we played the "wouldn't it be cool game" instead, playing in possibilities, unexpected, open ended circumstances and playing in investing in the best possible outcome instead of the worst case scenario. We are creating our life with every single thought and emotion we have and are feeling, so why not give ourselves a better, fighting chance in possibilities? 570 | Are You Hiding In Plain Sight? [Available on Patreon]
Connect with us on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am talking to my hiders, the ones who are hiding in plain sight and telling themselves a story that it is working for them, or that it is too scary to change. I love this quote, "There is an old saying: If you want to hide the treasure, put it in plain sight. Then no one will see it." ~ Larry Dossey. What if this is exactly what you are doing as a human? You are not wanting to be seen, heard, fly under the radar, maybe that was what was safe for you to do as a child, a trauma response. In today's episode we discuss: 1) This might be the case in that you are hiding in plain sight, you are showing up, doing all the things, thinking you are doing what you need to do to be seen, to move yourself or your business forward, yet you know deep down you're hiding. Hiding in plain sight might be disconnecting yourself from yourself, from not being honest with yourself, not telling yourself the truth, and these actions are blocking you from being seen. 2) Shrinking, hiding, playing small, think back to being asked a question in school, on a zoom, and you want to ask but it is easier to shrink down in your seat and pretend that all is fine. This is closely tied to your self-worth because "you don't soar to the level of your hopes and dreams in life, you will always plateau to the level of your self-worth. And how you see and value yourself is an indicator of how you will allow yourself to be seen. 3) It is not just a confidence thing, since confidence is a verb, an action step and it is a way to help build belief in yourself. Hiding is serving something for you, or else you wouldn't keep doing it. Get curious, ask yourself, your subconscious mind questions, and be ready for some answer. Questions like, "when did you decide that?", "wouldn't it be cool if _____" Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken2023 Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of "When She Stopped Asking Why". 569 | What Is Your Tipping Point?
In this episode I am sharing an answer to a question someone asked me at a recent networking event. They asked who my niche was, and if you know you know my thoughts on niche. I said I actually think there's more of a connection between who they are, what their emotions are and where they are on their journey. Like a tipping point. Tipping points are turning points, the point of not going backwards, of having enough of your own BS, of the turning point in a story, I knew this had to be an episode. According to Webster's dictionary, here is a definition of a tipping point, "the point at which a series of small changes or incidents becomes significant enough to cause a larger, more important change." According to Malcolm Gladwell who wrote a book called The Tipping Point, "he says, "you know when you've hit a tipping point, "looking at the world around you. It may seem like an immovable, implacable place. It's not, with the slightest push - in just the right place, it can be tipped. In today's episode we discuss: 1) It only seemed fair to share my tipping point in sharing my story and how I got over myself to step into the role I felt I was called to show up for. 2) Here are some signs that you have hit your tipping point. Feeling stuck, feeling lost, uninspired, knowing you are meant for more, believing you are here to do way more and you're done hiding and playing small. 568 | The Heart of a Musician with Theo Tams
In this episode we are speaking with Canadian singer, songwriter and performer, Theo Tams. Theo has been playing music since his teens and releasing music for the past 15 years. He has three albums and three EP's to his credit along with a formidable collection of singles, and being the 6th season winner of Canadian Idol in 2008. Theo has put together a body of work that's substantial and diverse and it speaks of an artist whose mission is growth and adventure. Theo lives in Toronto with his partner and their 11-year-old daughter explains that to understand where he's going, it's important to know where Tams has been until now. Born and raised in the small town of Coaldale in southern Alberta, Tams was raised in a strict Christian household, learning to sing in church (two services on Sundays), with a family that was steeped in music. He began writing poetry and prose pieces as a teenager, gradually moving towards songwriting influenced by the likes of Jewel, as well as confessional Canadian storytellers such as Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, Sarah Harmer, and Sarah Slean. After a series of rock bottom moments, Theo says he took the plunge of "spontaneous sobriety" in 2020, declaring himself finished and embarking on therapy that made a world of difference in his healing, and in Tams' resolve. In this episode we discuss: 1) Theo shares his story as a Canadian Idol winner, sharing his open and vulnerable story dealing with addiction and how he found his way to where he is today. 2) Theo shares so much on what it is like to be in the public eye, to deal with criticism and hate, how he continues to support the LGBTQ community, and how he has actively worked to build a community to surround and support others. 567 | You Will Never Outperform Your Beliefs [Available on Patreon]
In this episode I am sharing a perspective shift and understanding I have learned firsthand and through this whole process of studying NLP. Achieving our goals is not always about working harder, doing more, working to the bone, it is about seeing where the limitations are, or the perceived limitations are. And no matter how hard you work, you will never outperform what you believe is possible for you. You will get close, almost reach your goals, but if you don't see it as something as possible then it will never happen for you. This quote by John C. Maxwell is so good, "Successful people don't have any fewer problems than unsuccessful people; they just have a different mindset in dealing with them." In today's episode we discuss: 1) Here are 5 of the most common limiting beliefs. I don't have enough time; I don't have the resources to be successful; I am not someone who follows through. I'm not good enough for x,y,z, and I don't have what it takes to be successful. 2) Your mindset is informed by beliefs, values, experiences, and cultural background, among other factors that guide your thoughts and actions. Beliefs are mental representations of what we consider to be true or false. They are the foundation of our mindset and influence our perception of the world, self-image, and behaviour. 3) A limiting mindset, on the other hand, becomes your ceiling. You can't outperform that belief. It holds you back and prevents you from achieving anything beyond it, such as "I'm not smart enough" or "I'm too old to learn new things." Once you get locked onto a set of beliefs or a single lens, everything else revolves around that mindset. Your life becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Your beliefs shape your behaviour, which in turn shapes our outcomes, reinforcing our beliefs. If we believe we are incapable of achieving anything worthwhile, we are less likely to take the necessary actions to make them a reality. Mahatma Gandhi explains it beautifully, "Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." 566 |The Affirmation You Didn't Want To Make
In this episode I am sharing some a message I heard Kute Blackson say and it was a gut punch, and it is a great spin on affirmations. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Affirmations do not work for everyone, find something that works for you, and support you where you are at and where you are going. If there is a lack of belief or a limiting belief or decision that is stopping you from believing it is possible for you, then start there first. Go to the root of it and do the work to ask the questions as to why you don't believe it is possible for you. 2) We tend to hold onto things (people, relationships, etc.) even though we know they aren't good for us, not the support we need, or we have a hard time admitting this. When you hold onto something that doesn't serve you or where you are going, that is your affirmation to the universe that you are happy with what you currently have and actually don't want what you say you do. 564 | What Is Your Next Level You? [Available on Patreon]
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts about your next level and what that looks like. To evolve into the best version of you is a lifelong task. What got you here won't get you there mentality. Some people don't even consider what their next level is, because even going there mentally is scary and coming up against your outer edge. Your outer reach of your capabilities is when all of our past stories, your failures feel like they're thrown into our face as a reminder of why we can't do something. The day you wake up and think, "I want more out of life" is the day your life will change. As Tony says, "our entire life can change in an instant." - Tony Robbins In today's episode we discuss: 1) Your next level you will always require more courage, grit, strength, surrender, trust, new levels, new devils. What if you are exactly where you are supposed to be, and how can you trust that a little bit more? 2) The next level of you requires a next level of you and the next level of you also requires that you let go of what you no longer need, what doesn't serve you, and what isn't supporting you as you move forward. What won't move you forward is not telling the truth about what you know is or isn't working in your life. Brutal honesty is so important. Achievers try to cover up their fear by saying they're being realistic, but in reality, they're only limiting themselves 3) This doesn't mean doing, being or becoming more. It means coming back home to yourself, being in alignment, checking in, honouring your needs, valuing yourself or giving back to yourself. It will require clarity, honesty and for you to work on your beliefs in yourself because you will never outwork or out achieve what you believe to be possible. 563 | If You Don't Ask You Block Receiving What You Desire
In this episode I am sharing a recent story about asking for what you want, need or desire. This is not an easy one for most people to ask for help in any form, yet it can be the thing that actually brings you what you desire. In today's episode we discuss: 1) No one likes to ask for help. It is so uncomfortable, maybe it feeds an old story, or maybe it is something that you feel is a sign of weakness. P.S it isn't 2) Let's talk about the difference between masculine and feminine energy and how you do need a dance of both. People want to help, they want to support and sometimes all it takes is one ask. 3)I had a recent story of receiving a box that was damaged, and it was the sticky note the delivery driver put on the box that made me smile and go the extra mile. I guarantee I wouldn't have done that if he didn't ask. So where are you blocking yourself from receiving what you desire, where can you ask for support, or where can you ask for a connection? Because if you desire it, it is available for you, it is up to you to creatively find a way to make it available. 561 | Are You Growing Your Self-Confidence? [Available on Patreon]
Join us in Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on self-confidence, are you growing it or squashing it, and what self-confidence actually means. Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weaknesses well, and have a positive view of yourself. You set realistic expectations and goals, communicate assertively, and can handle criticism. The challenge is that your external results will NEVER exceed your internal identity, what you believe you are worth or what you deserve. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Confidence is believing in yourself, feeling comfortable in your true-self, knowing you have worth. If you are confident, people believe you, confidence is attractive, brings success, helps to connect well with others and you generally feel happier. 2) This can start as simply as creating promises with yourself and following through with them consistently, from the workout, water, food, screen time, rest, honouring your needs, the standards you have set for yourself. The higher the standard, the deeper the self confidence goes, always challenge yourself to do one more rep! 560 | When Do You Learn How to Surrender?
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on the word surrender. By the time this episode was released, another episode featuring Kute Blackson, the author of the book, The Magic of Surrender. It is a fantastic book if you want to learn more about the power of surrender. In today's episode we discuss: 1) When we surrender, we give up, but not in the way we think giving up means. We don't give up to the situation, but rather, we give up the notion that we should be able to or even can manage the situation, that we know anything that can help 2) There is freedom in letting go of our need to control the situation or fix the problem. We invite the possibility of more desirable options and outcomes. We find a sense of serenity as we see a broader picture. 3) Surrendering creates space because it's giving over of yourself to something else. It's allowing yourself to be filled with something other than your own worries and emotions. It starts with letting go of judgment, being mindfully aware of the present moment, and learning to live at cause in our life.
