558 | How Is Your Self-Awareness [available on Patreon]
Listen to the full episode on Patreon https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on self-awareness and how it can be your greatest gift. It can be the thing that supports you in the first steps of creating change. Self-awareness is the ability to see yourself clearly and objectively through reflection and introspection. If you're highly self-aware, you can objectively evaluate yourself, manage your emotions, align your behavior with your values, and understand correctly how others perceive you. Those who are highly self-aware can interpret their actions, feelings, and thoughts objectively. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Self-awareness is the ability to tune in to your own feelings, thoughts, and actions. When people are self-aware, they understand their strengths and challenges and know what helps them thrive. emotional self-awareness is that most of us are on autopilot and don't even know it. We lock in our thoughts, beliefs, habits, and behaviors early in life. And that kind of hardwiring is tough to rewire. 2) When we look inward, we can clarify our values, thoughts, feelings, behaviors, strengths, and weaknesses. We are able to recognize the effect that we have on others. Start with being aware of your triggers, how you're landing with others, and how your routine behavior impacts your future opportunities. 3) Ways that you can improve your self-awareness is to meditate, slow down, move your body, recognize your boundaries, lead and coach yourself, see where your actions are not in line with your values, focus on one thing at a time, and watch your screen time, it is a huge and surprising trigger. 557 | The Moments That Define You
In this episode I am sharing thoughts on the moments in life that define you and a different spin on these moments. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The typical moments include graduation, your first house or apartment, falling in love and getting married, seeing loved ones pass, fighting illnesses, memorable trips, finding success, or experiencing failure. What it's more about is how you show up in these moments, how you handle them not working or how you work through adversity. 2) I recently interviewed a mom who lost her 21 year old son, she is currently writing a book on reflecting on life and growing through grief and she shared how it is our Pattern Interrupter moments that define us, how do you handle an adversity, how do you move through the challenge, and who can you become in the process. Life isn't about checking the boxes, it is about building your legacy and knowing you lived. The little things become the big things. 3) More is said about our character in the moments that are not going as planned, when we are not "winning" than when everything is going our way. 555 | What We Learn In The In-Between [available on Patreon]
Join the Patreon Community today! https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on the in-between, the time in between where we are today and where we think we are supposed to be. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The in-between is the most uncomfortable time, where we aren't where we want to be yet, and we equate that to doing something wrong, not enough, or that we are on the wrong path. There is power in the pause and this is the in-between space. We are not yet who we want to be and have to grow into the version of the person who can hold and handle the next level of success, yet that person is inside of us, it is up to us to bring them to life. 2) This is the time we feel the most resistance, the most struggle and resistance recruits allies, thank you Steven Pressfield, and it shows up a lot like self-sabotage. The power of the pause. This is the time to become the identity that you are desiring to be. Health, fitness, reader examples. To assume the identity is to become that version, what do you do, see, hear, feel if you have that identity. Use this in-between time to anchor in the traits of this person. Bringing in your subconscious mind and not just consciously setting the goals. Goal getter vs goal setter 3) At the identity level, the self-image, the ideas a person constructs about themselves and their behaviour, abilities and beliefs, mostly unconsciously. In this level of change it is our beliefs, our values that will shape our identity. 4) In this in-between we are learning more about ourselves, building on our non-strengths, learning what is required, and getting clear on what we do or don't want. It is a time of pause, but it is a required time of learning. The more resistance we feel and feed on the longer we can stay in this in-between. It requires surrender, trust, aligned action, belief. This is where one small step or act of courage every day can move the needle forward to create results. If you rush the in-between, or crowd more into this space, you create a temporary crash landing of more in between. You might not know exactly where you are going, but you know that backwards isn't an option. 554 | What Lesson In Life Am I Most Grateful For?
In this episode I am sharing my own answer to the last question I ask every single guest, yet I don't know if I have fully answered it myself. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Where these questions originated from and why I wanted to include it at the end of each interview. 2) That no matter how isolated I feel in my situation or in my story, I am not alone. The only reason I feel alone is that I am making it about myself and I am not being open and vulnerable and those are strengths that I have cultivated over the years. Also what goes with this is when I feel alone I am making it about myself, and that never moves me out of my own mindset. 3) The best purpose I have ever felt is when I started to make this journey about others and how I could make an impact and show others what is possible. 552 | How My Story Has Evolved
JOIN US IN PATREON https://patreon.com/ownyourchoicesownyourlife In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on how my own personal story has evolved, what I have learned in this process and some of the key areas I am committed to doing the work. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Where it started 10+ years ago, and I am sharing what it felt like in those early days. 2) Some of the key turning points, the courage, the unknown, and the doors that opened up for me which felt like out of nowhere. The tickets to events gifted by strangers, the willingness to play full out, and how it was actually the discomfort that nudged me further. Good vs great 3) Now I am building a newer audience, becoming known for more than just sharing stories, following up on big visions, and still navigating doubt every single day. This is where the NLP tools have been so helpful in helping me navigate my blind spots. 551 | The Progress You Can't See
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on the progress you can't see, and how often we judge ourselves for the progress that we can't see and then assume that nothing is happening. When you start judging yourself for the progress and then equating that to your value it will stop you faster than you realize. In today's episode we discuss: 1) You can have full certainty in your vision, and not have certainty in the path or how you will get there. There's a million ways to get there so how can you stay more open in all of the possible ways to get there? 2) Think of a bamboo tree. Its growth has been measured at almost 4 feet in a 24 hour period during the Spring shooting period. When the new shoot reaches its height, it will unfold its branches and new leaves. It teaches us lessons about patience, faith, perseverance, growth, development and, most importantly, human potential. It can take five years to grow. It has to be watered and fertilized in the ground where it has been planted every day. 3) Allow yourself to be proud of yourself and all the progress you've made. Especially the progress that no one else can see. You will overestimate what you can do in one year and underestimate what you can do in 10 years. You are literally the bamboo tree and sometimes it is one connection, one person, one opportunity or introduction that can change your story or situation. 550 | The Road From Hollywood To Wall Street with Robert Kerbeck
In this episode we are speaking with Author & former Corporate Spy, Robert Kerbeck's. Robert's true crime memoir, RUSE: Lying the American Dream from Hollywood to Wall Street is the story of how a wannabe actor became the world's greatest corporate spy. Frank Abagnale, author of Catch Me If You Can, said, "Kerbeck has mastered the art of social engineering, or what he calls 'rusing', and taken it to a whole new level," while Shondaland (the producer of the Netflix series Inventing Anna) described RUSE as "a story almost too good to be true with no shortage of wild stories." Kerbeck's previous book MALIBU BURNING: The Real Story Behind LA's Most Devastating Wildfire, won a 2021 SoCal Journalism Award, the 2020 IPPY Award, and the 2020 Best of LA Award. His writing has appeared in numerous publications including the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Magazine, and Lithub's Crime Reads. In this episode we discuss: 1) Robert's pivot from the journey of a Hollywood actor to Wall Street as a former corporate spy to a writer and speaker sharing his story. We are never too old to pivot into the career we desire to have. 2) We are all walking through different stories and experiences and they are continually shaping us into who we are becoming and the work we are here to do. 548 | Will It Save You Or Consume You?
In this episode I am sharing my thoughts on a quote I heard Lori Harder say on a podcast. It stopped me in my tracks and I knew it was something I wanted to share more thoughts on. "If you bring forth what is within you, what is within you will save you. If you don't bring forth what is within you, what is within you will consume you." ~Lori Harder In today's episode we discuss: 1) Ask yourself, what is consuming you? What is it that you are holding onto, overthinking and not bringing into the world that is consuming you? You know the thing that you are sitting on, waiting on, resisting, feeling frustrated over, that energy is all consuming for you and it is not moving the needle forward for you or for the impact you are here to create in the world. 2) If you bring forth what is within you, it will save you. I knew years ago that I was meant to bring my story forward, to do something good with it, and I spent so long sitting in doubt, fear, and uncertainty. Today we are speaking with Business Mentor, Laura Minard. Laura is the co-founder of the largest business mentorship program in the country for nurse coaches. She is a medical freedom advocate, a financial freedom advocate, and believes in the ability to create one's own reality. In this episode we dive into: 1) How we all are always working through different chapters of our life, and we will have moments of falling backwards, and how important it is to show others the process so they can find their way through and see what is possible. 2) The topic of shame, how shame is truly arrogance, how we are giving it far too much power, and how we can shift this by finding a human we can trust in being non-judgemental with us. This is truly the birthplace of changing the story and stepping into who we are truly meant to be. 3) Laura openly shares her story, the struggles and early challenges including overcoming addiction, bankruptcy and founding and creating the largest businesses mentorship company in the country for nurse coaches Connect with Laura: Email: [email protected] Website: https://www.thesuccessfulnursecoaches.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thesuccessfulnursecoach Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/successful_nursecoaches Marsha Vanwynsberghe — Storytelling Business Coach, 2xs Podcaster, Author, Speaker Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of "When She Stopped Asking Why". 545 | Who is Actually Criticizing You?
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts on criticism and encouraging you to stop and see who is actually criticizing you. When you can change where you see it coming from, you change how you see it and ultimately its effect on you. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Criticism is the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes. Fear of criticism or fear in general is one of the number one reasons why you are not showing up and using your gifts. 2) Who will criticize you more than what you criticize yourself? No one, we judge ourselves more than anyone. 3) This is the message I want to convey: no one will criticize you for what you are doing. It will always come from someone who isn't doing what you are doing. 543 | The Path to Building Connections
In this episode I am sharing a powerful way to build connections with others. Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued, when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship." – Dr. Brene Brown. The number one desire we all have is to build connections, to be seen and heard. In today's episode we discuss: 1) There are four principles of conscious connections: empathy, authenticity, shared values, and support. So ask yourself if you are desiring more connections in your life, are you embodying these principles? Can you give empathy towards others, that is simply your ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Are you practicing authenticity (using your voice, message and values), and are you willing to give support to others without wanting or expecting something else in return? 2) Vulnerability is the path to building connections, "The definition of vulnerability is uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. But vulnerability is not weakness; it's our most accurate measure of courage - Brene Brown. It is that unstable feeling we get when we step out of our comfort zone or do something that forces us to loosen control. 3) The number one desire we all have is to build connections, to be seen and heard. How can you go first and do this for someone else with no expectation for something in return? 542 | The People You Meet On The Way Up
In this episode I am sharing some thoughts about a message I heard recently after an interview with Brandon Puffer. His episode was #541 on the podcast. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Success, money, acknowledgement should only make you more of who you are. These things amplify who you are. If you become a different person (in a negative frame) in the process, then success is changing you. 2) Who you meet on the way up is who you might meet on the way down too. Let Brandon's lesson in life that he is most grateful for ring through for you. 3) This relates to the book, "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", by Mitch Albom. The core take aways are this: everything happens for a reason; sacrifices make an impact in the lives of other people; forgiveness; the essence of love; and every human life has a purpose. My personal take away from this book has always been that I never know who I am having an impact on and some of the people who have impacted me, I have never met. 541 | My Redemption Story with Brandon Puffer
In this episode we are speaking with Motivational Speaker and Baseball Coach, Brandon Puffer. Brandon is an American former MLB player who played with the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. In 2007, Brandon signed with the Texas Rangers, playing for their Double A affiliate the Frisco RoughRiders. After a playoff game, Brandon joined his teammates for a celebratory night out which led to a night of drinking and poor choices. As a result, he was arrested for the intent of a crime and sentenced to 5 years in prison. After 3 1/2 years, he was eligible for parole and was free to start his new life over. Today, Brandon Puffer is the co-founder of GPS Legends where he serves as a coach and mentor to 17 year old players. The GPS Legends mission is to create a competitive baseball environment by instilling character, developing leaders and building confidence one player at a time. In this episode we discuss: 1) Brandon's story, the turning points, how he sat in a place of ownership, and used his time in prison to change his life and reinvent himself> 2) The journey of growth and sharing his story in his book, "From the BullPen to the State Pen", and how owning his story is allowing him to continue to make a massive impact with youth in baseball and life. 540 | Rejection is Redirection
In this episode I am sharing a personal lesson, experience regarding the word rejection and what we are making it mean. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Rejection is simply the act of pushing someone or something away. What if that person we are pushing away is ourselves? What if in the process we are pushing away the opportunities that are meant for us but we are the block? 2) Rejection is a re-direction, a tilt away from but also towards something new, like a course correction. This or something better? 3) Are you determined enough to do the reps, the work, the unseen work, the highs and lows, and trust that the rejection can be a redirection? 538 | Education and Support for Youth Substance Abuse with Chris Bungay
In this episode we are speaking with Executive Director of Sober Kids BC, Chris Bungay. Chris was a lawyer for 20 years, through the first half of his career (and first half of his life since age 12. Chris had a substance use disorder, mainly relating to alcohol use. He comes from a community and to some extent a family with a history of addiction. He sold his law practice 3 years ago and wanted to give back to the community, so with the help of his wife, they started a charity known as Sober Kids BC. This is a non-profit dedicated to educating families about youth substance abuse, and providing tools, speakers and courses to help parents who want to prevent their teens from using alcohol and drugs, but also to assist parents who have teens who are experiencing problems with using alcohol/drugs. In this episode we discuss: 1) Teen cannabis use in Canada and sharing some very relevant stats about addiction, teen substance abuse and how we can support families trapped in this cycle. 2) Sober Kids Canada is offering lots of educational resources through their website including a night where Marsha will be guest speaking on May 11th at 9 pm EST. 537 | Resistance is Growing Your Self-Doubt
In this episode (part 2 from episode #534), I am sharing some thoughts on resistance and a few quotes from the War of Art by Steven Pressfield. "The more important a call to action is to our soul's evolution, the closer you are to your life's mission, the more resistance we will feel and the more resistance we will feel about answering it. But to yield to Resistance deforms our spirit. It stunts us and makes us less than we are and were born to be. Never forget: This very moment, we can change our lives." In today's episode we discuss: 1) You don't overcome self-doubt, you build something bigger than it. You move through the resistance and become bigger than the self-doubt. Self-doubt comes from a belief, and when you have a belief your subconscious mind goes searching for proof either way. 2) What if what you are resisting in your self-growth is only feeding your self doubt? How can you get bigger than your self-doubt? Get into action, make promises to yourself and keep them, this will build confidence and belief in yourself. 3) Resistance is experienced as fear; the degree of fear equates to the strength of Resistance. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do. Remember our rule of thumb: The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it. 536 | What You See In Others Speaks Volume
In this episode, I am encouraging you to ask yourself some interesting questions. We can learn a lot about ourselves by how we see others, by what we see in others, and some of the first thoughts that come to mind when we meet people. I invite you to lift up the mirror for this episode because it might be enlightening! In today's episode we discuss: 1) When judgment shows up, or you are having a heightened reaction to someone, stop and ask yourself where that is coming from and is that the person you want to be? 2) What if you think of yourself as having navigated a really difficult time, did you do the best you could at that time? What if someone else is actually in the same place? One of the basis of NLP is that people are doing the best they can with the information they have. What if we are doing our best and our best changes from day to day? What if that's more than enough? 3) The next time you see something, someone that makes you think, why are they doing x,y,z, what if instead you stop and see the best in them, see them from a different light? When she's not working or writing, you can find her on city adventures with her family of six or yelling at the tv during a packers game. 534 | What Is Resistance Teaching You?
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on resistance and a few quotes from the War of Art by Steven Pressfield. "The more important a call to action is to our soul's evolution, the closer you are to your life's mission, the more resistance we will feel and the more resistance we will feel about answering it. But to yield to Resistance deforms our spirit. It stunts us and makes us less than we are and were born to be. Never forget: This very moment, we can change our lives." In today's episode we discuss: 1) Steven quotes resistance as a negative force in the world that prevents you from living your dreams. This includes the things we say yes and no to. Everything is taking our time and energy and that is also affecting our flow of money at the same time. Resistance is that voice in the back of your head that tells you that you aren't good enough, that you don't have enough time, or that it will never work. 2) We literally have two lives, the one we are living and the one within us and the difference between those two is simply resistance. In that space in between it is made up of the decisions, choices, activities, habits, rituals that help us manage the resistance. The problem is you think you're not supposed to have resistance. 3) Resistance is experienced as fear; the degree of fear equates to the strength of Resistance. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do. Remember our rule of thumb: The more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it. 533 | Your Self-Judgment Is Costing You
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on self-judgment and how it is actually costing you opportunities. It is our thoughts on self-judgment that muddy the waters with our beliefs about ourselves and then continue to block us from all that is available for us. This continues to derail your confidence and personal growth. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Recognizing the self-judgment thoughts, the awareness of them, and then not further shaming ourselves in the process. 2) The next step is to look for evidence or proof (you will find what you are looking for), replace the self-critical thoughts, challenge/break the negative loop, and then continue to practice self-compassion and mindfulness. 3) It's a process and it takes practice, and when you are willing to call yourself out on your own BS you will be able to change the words and messages you are telling yourself. 532 | The Roadmap To Understanding And Processing Emotions with David Wood
This is the second time I have had the pleasure of speaking with David Wood. This is such a deep conversation, a powerful, personal, vulnerable conversation that I am beyond grateful to be a part of today. In this episode I am speaking with David, a former consulting actuary to Fortune 100 companies. He built the world's largest coaching business, becoming #1 on Google for life coaching and coaching thousands of hours in 12 countries around the globe. As well as helping others, David is no stranger to overcoming challenges himself, having survived a full collapse of his paraglider and a fractured spine, witnessing the death of his sister at age seven, anxiety and depression, and a national Gong Show! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgKwAJieQes) He helps business owners and leaders become the badass leaders people want to follow, creating more authenticity, connection, confidence, and revenue. In this episode we discuss: 1) We all experience a fear of loss, respect, yet we don't have a roadmap of how to move through those emotions, to overcome them or even to share them. 2) David shares his roadmap, his journey that led to the premise for his book, "Mouse in the Room" 3) David shared how we can learn to become clear on our past; decide if this is a mouse worth naming; then learn how to disarm the mouse and share in our own way, followed by how we can be more transparent and honest with our lessons with others. 531 | What Is The ROI On Yourself?
In this episode, I am sharing a spin on the term ROI and something I have had to process and shift my thinking on especially these last 3 years. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The pandemic became the birth of so many online businesses and especially in the online space, there are pros and cons to all investments and we can learn from every single investment we make. I have made some good and some not great investments, and I learned to make a list of values for what I am looking for and release the pressure of the investments that have not turned out the way I expected. 2) Investing in yourself is the most profitable investment you can ever make. It yields not only future returns, but a current pay-off as well. The sure way to achieve a better quality of life, to be successful, productive, and satisfied is to place a priority in personal growth 3) The lessons can pay you back for years to come. When you invest in yourself, it is impossible to have a clear dollar for dollar return. One of your investments, even a low cost one from years ago could continue to pay you back for years to come. I think back to investing in my first facebook group. It was $97/month or my first live event was a stretch to go to Arizona, that is what inspired me to finally write my book. 530 | Joy Is The Road To Gratitude
In this episode, I am sharing a simple yet powerful shift when it comes to gratitude. Years ago I was stuck in a spiral of not being able to practice gratitudes the way I thought I was supposed to, I felt like I wasn't doing it right, I didn't actually mean it, and I couldn't embrace gratitude. It started with looking for joy. In today's episode we discuss: 1) "The root of joy is gratefulness." — David Steindl-Rast. Becoming thankful doesn't just make you a happier person, it literally boosts your immune system, lowers blood pressure, decreases depression, improves your love life, and gives you more patience in enduring times. 2) Joy is the simplest form of gratitude because it is a basic human emotion that can be easily understood and expressed. It is a natural response to the good things in our lives and is a way for us to express our gratitude for them. 3) Where can you look for joy, allow yourself to feel it, embody it and carry it into your daily life. With this practice you can start to find gratitude in the places you would have never expected. Her first book, Cry Until You Laugh, is about her breast cancer journey and her husband's battle with pancreatic cancer after being diagnosed just four months apart. 528 | Change Your Life At Any Age
In this episode, I am sharing a message I received in my dm's about how to shift from feeling like we're too old for change, how the rooms aren't meant for all of us, and that things have to stop for us because of our age. In today's episode we discuss: 1) What are you waiting for? What story are you telling yourself about why you have to wait for x, y or z to happen before you can start? Who says we're too old? It isn't coming from others, it is the message in our own head. 2) What if you are exactly where you are supposed to be? What if you are perfectly designed to be exactly where you are right now? What if you now have the knowledge, experience, and expertise to be able to hold that new experience? 3) What you are waiting for is not coming. Rooms are calling for you to step into and you have gifts at any age that you can use to support others with, so let's change the narrative and say yes to the work we are being called here to do. 527 | Storytelling to Grow Your Business
In this episode, I am sharing some reasons for how you can use storytelling to grow your business by building authentic connections and allowing others to see and hear you. We don't have to live the exact same stories in order to connect with others. By allowing others to see and hear our emotions, our experiences, they can see themselves in our stories and that is what continues to build the relationships. All business and connections are built on the backbone of relationships. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Storytelling makes you a real, relatable human who has lessons, experiences and expertise to share with others. It also removes the veils of social media and instead of showing the highlight reels it gives a real snapshot of who you are at the core. This is who others want to know. 2) Not everything in your story has to be shared. Only sharing your parts of the story, always leaving others in integrity and if you have to justify it to explain it then don't share it. 3) The simple framework is a)who you were before the story happened; b) what happened, your part of the story; c) now as a result you are or you do. 526 | Recalibrate Your Mindset with Alundas Haven
In this episode we are speaking with CEO and Founder, Alundas Haven. Alundas Havens was a Marine Corps Veteran. He endured physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and created mental barriers to keep myself "safe" from the world. He later understood that he trapped himself into a box where he had limited beliefs and didn't understand simple life concepts. The Marine Corps allowed him to find his tribe and excel but when he had a freak injury that too took a toll on his mental well being. He had to leave what he was good at and searched for what was next, as a Veteran it's tough to reintegrate into a society that does not understand you one bit. He started The Winners Paradigm to help people who are currently battling to improve and calibrate their mindset so they can achieve their definition of success. 525 | Your Story Is Your Legacy
In this episode, I am sharing a very personal story, an experience and the impact it has had on me. I have an even deeper belief and conviction that our story is meant to be left as our legacy. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Your story matters, the good, the hard, the messy parts, the normal, the feelings, emotions, all of it. How can you stand in that space, remove the blocks, and lean in knowing that you can help someone else. You are perfectly designed to support the person you once were. 2) Picture it being the end of your life, what is the message, the story, that you want to leave with your loved ones, with others, the legacy you want to live on long past your time here? 3) This is actually something that pisses me off, watching people wait, think, overthink, stop themselves, block themselves, and then sit in regret when something difficult happens in their life. What you are waiting for is not coming. Waiting for it to be perfect, for it to be a happy ending means that it's done and you are done learning and growing, and how relatable is that? #524: Stop Waiting for the Happy Ending
In this episode, I am sharing a message I received in my dm's and I know that there is some value for you here and that's why I am sharing. Someone sent me a dm saying "it is easy to share your story when you have a happy ending." In today's episode we discuss: 1) What are you waiting for? What story are you telling yourself about why you have to wait for x, y or z to happen before you can start? 2) How resourceful can you get? How out of the box can you think? Are you utilizing all of the resources available for you? 3) What you are waiting for is not coming. INC Magazine wrote that Jake has "more than enough chutzpah" to scale any business, and Huffington Post wrote that he's built an impactful career at "the intersection of culture and consciousness." In this episode we dive into: 1) We spoke about the power of responding vs reacting, and the power of playfulness and how it is such an important piece in co-creation. 2) Jake shared his journey from 17 when he experienced many changes in his life from the loss of his 13 year old brother to leukemia, his dad being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and how this greatly impacted his own personal belief system and direction over the next decade. 3) Through his story, he has shattered previous belief systems, pushed the boundaries of what even he thought was possible, and how he takes action on the clear yes' and then lets go of the control of the outcome to let it unfold as it is meant to Connect with Jake: Email: [email protected] Website: https://www.imiloainstitute.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imiloa.institute/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jakesasseville/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jake-sasseville-355732/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jakesasseville1 Listeners can get $200 off any retreat by using keyword "JAKE" at https://www.imiloainstitute.com Marsha Vanwynsberghe — Storytelling Business Coach, 2xs Podcaster, Author, Speaker Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of "When She Stopped Asking Why". 522 | This is Envy in Disguise
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts about the emotions that we are experiencing and how they say more about us than we realize. This one in particular is criticism, which is actually envy in disguise. And envy is one of the most poisonous emotions to carry. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The definition of criticism is the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes. Criticism is the act of making judgments; analysis of qualities and evaluation of comparative worth; especially the critical consideration and judgment of someone's work. 2) Both negative and constructive criticism have their appropriate uses, but often it is considered a requirement of criticism that they are combined. Thus, it is often considered that those who find fault with something should also offer an option for putting it right 3) Criticism is a reaction to us feeling a loss of personal value by the attitude or behavior of someone around us. We end up criticizing that person to regain some of our value. 4) Envy is considered one of the seven deadly sins, and it tends to go hand-in-hand with destructive criticism towards the object of envy. It is destructive both for the person who feels it and the person it is felt towards. This emotion is as common as it is harmful, and it is often masked by superficial, shallow statements Reference for this article: https://exploringyourmind.com/keep-criticism-getting-way-dreams/ Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken Join Master Your Emotions Audio Program https://www.marshavanw.com/offers/YFrLty4v/checkout Marsha Vanwynsberghe — NLP Storytelling Trainer, Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of "When She Stopped Asking Why". 521 | What If My Story Isn't Big Enough?
In this episode, I am sharing some of the messages and words I receive from people asking me about their story. There's a constant theme of messages asking, "Is my story big enough", "who's going to care", "is it important enough", or "what will they think" In today's episode we discuss: 1) The underlying reason why people don't share is it boils down to this constant fear of judgment, what will others think or say about your work and what you are saying? There's also a lack of self confidence that also makes it harder to share your voice and message with the online or in person world. 2) Stop talking yourself out of something before you even start. How would you know it won't work, you haven't done it before? If you are ready to learn how to speak on stages, on a podcast, write your book, or make more money in your business, you have to allow yourself to be seen and heard. 3) It's hard for me to openly celebrate wins, today I share one of the big podcast wins that we are celebrating, and none of it would be possible if I didn't decide that my story wasn't big enough 7+ years ago! She helps high achieving women ditch the anxiety, doubt and stress through her integrative approach that blends her training in Western evidence-based psychotherapy with eastern philosophy. Jessica supports women through 1-on-1 and group coaching as well as her podcast- Un Learn to Level Up. In this episode we dive into: 1) Jess shares her step by step process she shares with her clients when it comes to changing your thoughts. It starts with awareness, then creating discrepancy with this thought pattern, acknowledging how it is hurting or helping you, then looking ahead in time to see how that pattern won't create the change you might be desiring. 2) Our subconscious patterns that we repeat in cycles until we increase our awareness and do the work to break the cycle and rewritten the new beliefs. 3) Jess shares her knowledge and expertise on self care, boundaries, burnout, the feelings of safety and certainty and receiving and resentment. 519 | What Do You Do When You Are Not Hitting Your Goals?
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts and experiences from it being March 1st and not being anywhere near where I set my goals for 2023. I am thrilled it is March as January and February are not my fav months, but I had a moment of feeling like I am not anywhere near where I thought I would be by now. Since I am navigating it, I am sure I am not the only one in this loop. In today's episode we discuss: 1) The story only has the meaning that you give it. Remember your thoughts are always focused on your past or on creating your future, you get to decide what they mean. 2) Standing in the gap vs the gain, if you can stand in the gain you can see what you have accomplished, what you are experiencing and what habits you have made improvements on. 3) The goal is to shoot bigger than anticipated so you can stretch, but this is one of the reasons that I don't love the term goals. It is not all or nothing, it is a process. Ask yourself what are you learning, what do you know you want less or more of, and how can you ask for help. 518 | Who Are You When It's Not Working?
In this episode, I am sharing some after watching a movie called True Spirit. True Spirit is the true story of Jessica Watson, the 16 year old who set sail on a 10-metre vessel, a sailboat, on October 18th, 2009 and returned May 15th, 2010. She sailed approximately 18, 582 nautical miles, crossing through the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans all on her own without stopping. I loved this movie and I had some big takeaways that I wanted to share with you. In today's episode we discuss: 1) When she decided to go on this journey, her family believed in her, yet very few people believed she could do it and a lot of people were planning on her failing, media, the government wanted to stop her mission, and it wasn't until she started to live out her vision, she did a video blog of it, and it became real that others started to get on board and support her. I think she had >80, 000 people meeting her at the harbour when she came back to port. 2) Imagine 7 months completely on your own, all food, resources mapped out ahead of time, and fighting mother nature in a sailboat? Without giving any of the movie away, there were moments where she had no wind, and no movement and those moments became the defining moments. This is so parallel to our lives. 3) It's the times when things aren't working out, going as planned, that challenge our identity, our belief in ourselves and those moments forge who we are, and what we believe to be true. His calling is to serve humanity, and he executes his calling at many levels. He is an award-winning author, teacher, trainer, and a highly experienced mediator. 516 | Why Don't You Write Your Book?
In this episode, I am sharing the idea of writing your story. This journey of writing 7 years ago and I could never have imagined it would lead to this place of helping others to learn how to share and write their stories too. So you have had this dream of becoming a published author but have no clue of where to start? Here are a few tips I wanted to share. In this episode we discuss: 1) Who is going to benefit from your story? Who are you speaking to? It actually isn't about us, that was a huge eye opener when I was writing my story. 2) Why are you being called to write? Can you write from a place of integrity about your story? What is being shared, what is off limits, what are the readers' takeaways? 3) What are the turning points in your story? This is where I was, this is what happened, and this is where I am now. Such a simple step process but that's the general breakdown. You are the hero of your own story and that is what you are being called to share. 4) So if it is such a great idea then why don't people do it? If you are ready to write your collaborative chapter or to dive into your solo book, I invite you to send me a quick email or book a discovery call to see if you'd like to join me in writing your book alongside me this year. https://calendly.com/mvanwyn761/discoverycall Join the OUTSPOKEN NLP Coaching Certification https://www.marshavanw.com/outspoken Master Your Emotion Audio Program https://www.marshavanw.com/offers/YFrLty4v Marsha Vanwynsberghe — Author, Speaker, and Life Coach Marsha is the 6-time Bestselling Author of "When She Stopped Asking Why". 515 | How Long Do You Sit In It?
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on sitting in the muck. The muck is whatever you know you are sitting in. Fear, judgment, waiting to be ready, planning out every single piece before you move, and it is all literally just sitting and waiting for whatever you call it. This is avoiding rejection, feeding the fear, blocking you from opportunities, and not allowing you to step into your gifts and create the impact you are here to create. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Create a guideline for yourself for how long you are going to sit in it before you take action. No decision is a decision. 2) Rejection and redirection are diving protection. Decide that rejection is better than regret. When I feel stuck I ask myself is this something you would regret not doing later and if the answer is yes, then I say yes and I work to figure it out and sit in trust that this is happening for me. 3) Sitting is ok, it is not weakness, it is listening. But don't unpack and buy real estate there, you are simply driving through. 514 | How Big Is Your Dream with Shanti Hershenson
Today we are speaking with Author and young student, Shanti Hershenson. Shanti's first two novels were published when she was in the sixth grade, although her writing journey started long before then. Ever since she could hold a pencil, marker, or crayon, she was creating stories. They started from pictures, mere scribbles, and eventually, turned into captivating tales. Shanti lives in California with her parents, sister, and furry friends. Besides writing, she enjoys skateboarding, Beyblading, free-running, falconry, and of course, reading. Shanti writes in a variety of genres, including Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Historical Fiction, although she mostly sticks to Sci-Fi. She advocates for anti-bullying, and you may find her at open mic-nights, performing her spoken word poem Needles & Thorns, which is about the struggle of bullying in middle schools. In this episode we dive into: 1) Shanti's age may be deceiving, she has gone through a lot of experiences that she decided to move into action and transform her pain into beautiful things like her writing. Especially since the pandemic, Shanti has learned a lot about being resilient and that she was capable of more than she ever imagined. What if we all took that approach in life? How much more could we accomplish? 2) Shanti shares her story of self-publishing, the discipline to write and publish while going to school, and is a reminder that we are never too old or too young to do something or follow that dream we have in our life. 513 | A Lot Changes When You Tap In
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on EFT Tapping and how this tool is something you can use on yourself to shift your energy especially when you are in a funk. EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique. If you have recently done the Blocks to Owning Your Story Quiz, you might have come across this technique, also known as tapping, as I share some tapping videos and solutions with you in the results emails. I want to use this episode to share one of the tools that I have used in my own healing journey that I have found to be so powerful! In today's episode we discuss: 1) EFT is a modality I recently learned when I became NLP certified. NLP is a model for success. It's the blueprint for success and the language you learn to speak to talk to your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is where 95+% of your thoughts and beliefs are formed. Think of the iceberg picture and all the work we never see below the surface. To access your subconscious mind, you must learn how to speak to it and this is exactly what NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) is. 2) What is EFT? EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a therapy technique loosely based on the techniques of acupuncture or acupressure. It uses the same basic energy meridians in the body to eliminate physical, emotional and mental issues. With EFT we balance the energy system of the body to relieve issues. 3) This internal representation of how we see things creates a picture in our minds of what we are receiving and our physiology creates our state and our state determines our behaviour and that determines our results. Our state is incredibly important to how we perceive the information. 4) WE tap in the fear and tap out the desires, this is how we create lasting change in our subconscious mind. Depending on what we are experiencing, we may need to repeat this processes like EFT multiple times each day. 512 | The Chatter In Your Head
In this episode, I am sharing some thoughts on what is more important, the thoughts you think or the words you speak. We all have chatter, we get to decide how much of an influence that chatter will have on us and how it can predict what we do or don't create in our lives. We all have a voice in our head, we are our biggest cheerleader or our biggest critic. Yes it is important to say and speak positive language to life, but those positive words mean nothing if they are built on a massive pile of negative thoughts that are trapped inside our head. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Practice regular journaling and brain dumping to see the thoughts you are thinking and the chatter in your head. 2) Your words speak life into what you are creating. Speak to where you are going, what you are creating, and when you combine powerful thoughts and words with action steps you will become unstoppable. 3) Meditation is a method to recognize the chatter, quiet the chatter, and allow you to get outside of yourself which will help you to persevere when you face challenges. Today we are speaking with Business coach and Leadership Educator, Kevin Kepple. Kevin loves to be outside in nature, is an ironman athlete, and has the most fun (aside from being in the mountains with his dog Frank) when he is helping successful but stressed business owners and executives create more impact by aligning with their heart, so that they can truly maximize their genius and find more access to happiness and aliveness. In this episode we dive into: 1) We spoke about the power of trust, letting your clients/people see you so that they can trust you, and learning how to trust yourself. 2) Choosing anything over fear, freedom, grace, respect, humility, choose all of it over fear. When you do have these standards and continuously make these choices, abundance becomes a standard. 3) The only way to build connection with your clients, your future clients or others in your life is to let vulnerability be the model and the birthplace of all connections. 510 | Your Mind Is Easier To Program Than You Think
In this episode, I am sharing thoughts on programming your mind. We are bombarded with 2.3 million bites per second of information, every single second. If we didn't have a way to sort through that information, could you imagine how overwhelmed the circuit of our brain would be? We delete, distort and generalize based on the information and what we choose to focus on in that specific moment. Once we go through this process we break it down to 7 +/- 2 chunks of information at one time, this is our own personal internal representation of the information, and that we have far more control over than what we think. In today's episode we discuss: 1) Everything wants in, all information is fighting to get in, think like a bouncer in a nightclub where everyone wants to be. When our filters are initiated we are consciously being asked to decide what is important. You can train these filters to see what you want to see. 2) When you doubt yourself, you will see pop ups of every reason why you should doubt yourself, when you shift to self belief, you actively train the filter to look for everything that is going right in your life. You look for the proof, and you have more control than you think you do. 3) Look for something specific that you call out everyday such as a heart, a red bird, a butterfly, not simply for a manifestation, but to show your mind that you focus on what you search for. This is being Tapped In and using the power of your brain to your advantage. Look at your own explorer page on social media, that is what you are watching and searching for. It is an external representation of what is internally important to you. 4) Red car example, once you see it, you will see more of them everywhere. Another example is when you feel like something is wrong and an email or a phone call pops up, you immediately react from that space and energy. Be consciously aware of your unconscious thoughts to break the patterns and change them, and at the same time celebrate your wins when you consciously train your brain in real time. 509 | How Many Stairs Are You Willing to Climb?
In this episode, I am sharing thoughts climbing the stairs to success. First off, what does success mean to you? This is a powerful question to ask yourself and check in on a regular basis. Create a clear concept of what success means to you and then map it out like you are climbing a set of stairs. In today's episode we discuss: 1) What do you find on the ground floor? Lots of negative energy, non-growth mindset and the vibrations of gossip, negativity, lots of doom and gloom. Maybe you will have a lot of connections here but you might not have the deep connections you are searching for. 2) When you climb the stairs you will find less people, and the connections and relationships will be more meaningful, deeper connections and less crowded space. 3) You will slip back, fall back and fall into old habits, and the faster you can become consciously aware of your old patterns, the faster you will catch yourself and change them in the moment in real time. As Lisa Nichols says, "Your mindset is birthing your life experiences, can't have a life in the castle with a mindset in the doghouse." Echo shared how it starts with getting comfortable with silence, asking some deep internal questions, and getting honest with what your ideal day, what is working, what is not and what you would love to have more of. 2) The difference between divine masculine (healed and unhealed), and divine feminine (healed and unhealed), and how we can be more aware of the space and energy we are living in. 3) We talked about pain and how if we know and believe that we are here to do really big magical things, then we need to see, feel and move through our pain to understand what it is teaching us to truly see the magnitude of our power.
