S4 Ep 202#202: Kettlebells + Confidence with Colleen Conlon

#202: Kettlebells + Confidence with Colleen Conlon Today we are speaking with Colleen is an entrepreneur who specializes in helping women build strength, increase their metabolism, and ignite their spark to "find their fierce." And she does all of this through kettlebells. An eating disorder survivor, Colleen owes much of what has helped her overcome adversity in her life to learning the "hardstyle" kettlebell technique. It is her mission to support other women in overcoming their own challenges and feeling strong and fierce through this same discipline. In this episode, we discuss: Experiencing physical changes or injuries can lead to improving areas in our lives that can create so much change. Being open to learning how to use kettlebells helped her to build confidence in other areas of her life. Our health journey can go in so many different directions, and continuing to make time to heal ourselves can impact all areas of our lives. S4 Ep 201#201: Intentions Not Resolutions

#201: Intentions Not Resolutions In this mindset episode, I am talking about intentions, not resolutions, and the power of scripting. Before you start planning for 2021, it is important to do a self-assessment of 2020. What were your wins, what accomplishments are you proud of and what lessons did you learn? This exercise in scripting that I describe in detail is all about intentions and not resolutions. Resolutions focus on external rewards and that can create anxiety, are not always achievable, and don't reinforce the habits required to sustain long-term changes. Intentions focus on long-term change, achievable and sustainable, and focus on the habits that create the results. S3 Ep 200#200: The Power of Ownership

#200: The Power of Ownership In this mindset episode, I am breaking down the themes and messages from the past 200 episodes, solo, and interviews, to share with you the steps to owning your choices and ultimately owning your life. Thank you so much for all of your shares, reviews, downloads, and support. You have helped me bring this podcast out into the world. In this episode we discuss: The tipping point for all change starts with the feelings we avoid – guilt, shame, hiding, anger, resentment, blame, etc. Deciding that we don't want to feel these feelings any longer is when change starts. This is where we own it. Ownership is the start of radical responsibility. We recognize our role in the story, and we can then see the lessons that our story taught us. Now we are ready to embrace vulnerability – we find our voice, we build our courage, confidence and allow ourselves to be seen. The other things that come into play here are boundaries (energetic and physical), values, standards, expectations, self-care, and receiving. If you don't own your story it owns you. We have cleared the path to make room for what is next in your life, new experiences, people, and opportunities. #197: PR for Entrepreneurs- Being More YOU Will Help You Scale Your Business with Lauren Salaun Today we are speaking with PR + Influencer Marketing Expert and Consultant, Business Coach, Speaker, Lauren Salaun. Lauren spent the first decade of her career in public relations, marketing, and advertising – with time spent in the luxury, music, and health care industries before starting her own PR and marketing business in 2015. During this time, following intense burnout from her corporate career, Lauren got back into health and fitness. A lifelong athlete, she began sharing her health journey on social media and "accidentally" started a health and fitness business, which thrived for several years before Lauren chose to focus all her energy on public relations and marketing. Today, Lauren is the CEO and founder of Influence+IMPACT, a PR and influencer marketing agency that helps entrepreneurs elevate their visibility and make a global impact. She is also the founder of The PR Accelerator, a hybrid mastermind-coaching-agency program that teaches growing entrepreneurs how to scale their business through public relations. In this episode, we discuss: Learning how powerful it is to combine both the feminine and masculine sides of ourselves and our businesses will allow us to find flow in our business and life. Learning how to be more of ourselves is the secret to scaling our business. You are the magic or secret sauce. Working in high intensity and stress can give us a ton of different experiences, yet it doesn't typically lead to joy in our lives. Energetic burnout is real. Learning to listen to her gut, instinct and energy was the path to finding joy. No level of success is worth sacrificing your mental health or energy. S3 Ep 196#196: Let That Guilt Go

#196: Let That Guilt Go In this mindset episode, we are talking about the concept of guilt, the difference between shame and guilt, and how much guilt weighs when we carry it. This quote by Audre Lorde explains it perfectly. "Guilt is not a response to anger; it is a response to one's own actions or lack of action. If it leads to change then it can be useful, since it is then no longer guilt but the beginning of knowledge." In this episode, we discuss: Guilt is an emotion that keeps us at a standstill and is a focus on the fact that we are judging ourselves and feeling like we are never doing enough or doing enough of the right things. Christmas will be different this year no matter what we do because of how this year is unfolding. It is easy to drop into overcompensating this year but that is a story we are creating and telling ourselves. How can we recognize guilt in our lives and where we are putting the shackles on our own feet to keep us stuck in our stories? When we hold onto the guilt the weight of it only increases, and our own self-care is likely diminishing in the process. We don't realize the weight of guilt until we decide to stop carrying it. It is time to let go of guilt and stop punishing ourselves by reframing the story and forgive ourselves for the guilt we have put on ourselves. When we hold onto guilt, we cannot be in gratitude for what we have accomplished, and we cannot stay in the present moment. This is when gratitude is possible and the most powerful. S3 Ep 195#194: The Power of Trusting Your Body with Naomi Rotstein

#194: The Power of Trusting Your Body with Naomi Rotstein Today we are speaking with Personal Trainer and Certified Nutrition Coach, Naomi Rotstein. Naomi has been a Certified Personal Trainer in Boston for the past 12 years. She holds a BS in Exercise Science, Precision Nutrition Certified, and a certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Qualifications are important, but what is even more important when it comes to helping others is that she has been there and she gets it. Naomi has experienced the highs and lows of body image from severe overtraining, disordered eating to recovery, and optimal health. As a former fitness competitor, she spent years struggling with body image and dieting. She was constantly over-exercising and under-eating to maintain my show physique all year. After suffering a peptic ulcer at age 26, she made it my mission to heal my relationship with her body and obsessive thoughts of food. She helped hundreds of women reach their wellness goals. Her clients gain confidence and learn healthy lifestyle choices through scaling back on cardio, lifting heavy, and eating intuitively. The experiences she had and her own personal journey to get to a happier, healthier place with her body gave her the passion & inspiration to help others do the same. In this episode, we discuss: Learning to love herself and freeing herself from the all or nothing mindset was the key to healing her relationship with her body and mind. There is so much power in learning how to change our mindset, tweak our thoughts and words, and trust ourselves and our bodies. Learning to listen to our bodies as they are talking to us every single day is powerful. S3 Ep 193#193: A Gift You Give to Yourself

#193: A Gift You Give to Yourself In this mindset episode, we are talking about the concept of forgiveness and how learning to forgive ourselves for something that we have been holding onto is actually the best gift you can give to yourself. Forgiveness is the practice of healing vs hurting yourself. This quote by Brandon Bays says it all, "True forgiveness is one of the most healing releasing and freeing gifts we give to ourselves." In this episode, we discuss: Bring awareness to the one area of your life where you know you can forgive yourself. Ask yourself, "did you make the best decision you could with the information you had at that time?" Don't put hindsight into your judgment of yourself. Follow the 80/20 rule and put 80% of your energy to create a different future and 20% into understanding the lessons that you learned. Own it to change it. Own the decisions that you made to get to this point in order to create change. This gives your power to yourself instead of your past stories. Where can you see it in a different light? Would your advice to a friend be the same that you give to yourself? We are always extremely hard on ourselves. Let it go, let it go, let it go. When in doubt, let it go, it is already in the past. S3 Ep 192#192: Watch Your Expectations

#192: Watch Your Expectations In this Friday fact episode, I am sharing my thoughts on expectations and how especially at this time of year, especially in the year 2020, that we have to be aware and mindful of the expectations we are placing on ourselves. The holiday season is approaching and this year will be different for all of us, and to give ourselves a fighting chance for success, it starts with watching our expectations. In this episode, we discuss: The definition of expectations is putting our energy into trying to control future events that we have zero control over. This is not a great use of our energy which is our highest commodity resource that we have. S3 Ep 190#190: The Power of Gratitude

#190: The Power of Gratitude In this mindset episode, we are talking about the concept of gratitude. As we enter the final month of 2020, after a year of so much change and unpredictability, I know that this can be a very overwhelming time of the year. Today, I share some tips on gratitude and how it can be the number one thing to change our perspective. This quote from Oprah sums it up perfectly, "Be thankful for what you have, you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have you will never have enough." In this episode, we discuss: Creating a daily gratitude practice, something that you consciously do every day and focus on specific things that you are excited and grateful for. When it shifts your energy it can potentially change someone else's energy. This is the ripple effect that we can all be a part of. Your brain will go wherever you tell it to go. What we focus on expands. The more negative our thoughts, the more we will see things that will reinforce our negative thoughts. Be intentional and consistent about gratitude practice. Consistency pays off. What you listen to, watch, who you surround yourself with will all play a part in your ability to shift your thinking and be grateful. Someone somewhere is always experiencing more challenges or hardships. It is called a gratitude practice for a reason. S3 Ep 189#189: When to Talk More Than Listen

#189: When to Talk More Than Listen In this Friday fact episode, I am sharing a quote by James Gills, the only man to complete 6xs Double Ironman (I mistakenly said triathalon in the episode), and when he was asked how he did it, he said this, "I've learned to talk to myself instead of listening to myself." I shared how this quote landed for me in this brief episode. In this episode, we discuss: How toxic our thoughts are and we should spend more time talking to ourselves instead of listening to ourselves. By taking ownership of the words we use to talk to ourselves we are giving ourselves a fighting chance. I shared a personal story on how I have been focusing on the words I speak as opposed to the words I hear myself say, especially when I get into a negative spiral. S3 Ep 185#186: Your Greatest Calling

#186: Your Greatest Calling In this mindset episode, we are talking about the concept of our greatest calling. Our greatest calling can be wrapped up in our greatest challenges. Our deepest pain can be the launching pad for our greatest calling. I've referred to this quote many times in my life, "If your path is more difficult, it's because you have a higher calling", Jonas Meteling. If this speaks to you, this episode is for you. In this episode, we discuss: We all have a calling. Sometimes it is wrapped up in our greatest challenges. Read the War of Art by Steven Pressfield. Such an incredible book! When we ask different questions, we can see things differently. It opens up our eyes to the possibilities in front of us, instead of focusing on the problem that we are seeing.

We all have strengths that we can focus on instead of the stories (challenges) that we let define us. Create a mantra to refocus your thinking when the challenge feels too big or overwhelming. I used to remind myself that I had I was in this challenge because I was able to handle it. S3 Ep 185#185: Moving Through Doubt

#185: Moving Through Doubt In this Friday fact episode, we are talking about the concept of doubt and how much we let doubt stop us from moving forward on our goals. We give doubt so much power instead of just calling it emotion and not giving it so much energy. The opposite of doubt is confidence and we can only increase our confidence by doing. We either feed the fear and doubt or we feed the faith that we can move forward. Here are a few tips to move through the feelings of doubt. In this episode, we discuss: Living in doubt means that you are questioning all of your possibilities for the future, and those are all the things that you cannot control. Look back to all of the things you have overcome or achieved. Where can you use any contrary evidence to prove that your beliefs are not accurate and that your doubt doesn't serve a purpose? Ask different questions. Don't train your brain for all of the what if's or what could go wrong. Instead, ask how does it get any better than this? Ask questions that focus on your strengths and not your weaknesses. I love this quote by Hanoch McCarty, "It is not who you are that holds you back, it is who you think you are not." Remember you choose what you feel. You can feel doubt or believe in your future self. #183: Be the Leader You Wish You Had In this mindset episode, we are talking about the concept of leadership and how we start with learning to lead ourselves first. If you are someone who has craved learning about leadership, or leading others, it is most likely because you wish that someone had been there to lead you on your journey. Leading yourself means owning the habits, rituals, mindset, actions, and programming that make you the best version of you. In this episode, we discuss: Identify what you need to do on a daily basis in order to be the best version of ourselves. Leadership is a turning point and solving a problem that exists. The answers you have learned on your journey are not basic. They are valuable for someone else. Leadership is using your voice and finding your courage to stand up and go first. It can be a very lonely journey in the very beginning. If you feel called to be a leader it is most likely that you wished someone had been there to lead you. S3 Ep 182#182: It's Always an Inside Job

#182: It's Always an Inside Job In this Friday fact episode, we are talking about the concept that everything we do or want to change is an inside job. We can't just put positive on top of negative. In order to change our thoughts, mindset, or beliefs, it starts with changing what isn't working for us by starting on the inside. In this episode, we discuss: In order to change your thoughts, beliefs, and mindset, you must first breakdown what isn't working for you. That means clearing out the negative thoughts before you can truly absorb the positive ones. We have this habit of how we think, believe, and act, which is the habits we have of being ourselves. This is the work of Joe Dispenza, "Breaking the Habits of Being Yourself." Journaling has allowed me to dump out my thoughts with no filters or judgments on them at all. Then I look at what limiting beliefs I have right now and what contrary evidence do I have that disproves it? By chiseling away the negative thoughts and beliefs, we create a space for the meditations, mantras, podcasts, books, to cement in our bodies and mindsets to be able to grow. This creates long-lasting change to take place. #181: Face Everything and Rise with Sandra Rinaldi Today we are speaking with Certified Life, Health & Youth Coach, Writer, Speaker, Sandra Rinaldi. As a former live entertainment marketing executive for the biggest independent promotor in Eastern North America, Sandra Rinaldi made the huge decision to part with the rock and roll world after 20 years in 2019. Back to school at 41 years old, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery and completely started over as a Life Coach. Living through her own struggles with insecurities and fear, she is now helping people with what she says is the base of happy living: deep and unwavering self-confidence. In this episode, we discuss: You are more than enough. You should never let someone's opinion of you determine what you choose to do in your life. The longer you don't listen to your own inner voice, the harder it is to hear what you want and live in alignment with your true purpose. Be aware of and admit what isn't working in your life. Take a stand and take responsibility for yourself in your own life. Our identity will change many times over our lifetime. When we allow it to naturally evolve it will. The irony of life changes in Sandra's life, and it becomes more evident that we must trust the timing of our lives! S3 Ep 180#180: What You Know Is Valuable to Someone Else

#180: What You Know Is Valuable to Someone Else In this mindset episode, we are talking about the lessons that we learn and how we judge what we know as basic information. We are far too critical of ourselves and believe that what we have learned is basic. It wasn't basic to us when we learned it and it is still not basic to us as we continue to learn and embody these lessons. I always promise you that someone, somewhere is praying for a solution that you have, that you have learned, and that you can support them within their life. In this episode, we discuss: The lessons we learned are valuable. There comes a time when we understand that they are more valuable than we think, and they can make a difference in someone else's life as well. When we doubt ourselves, and we always do, we then fall into the comparison trap of comparing our story to someone else's. This is where things go sideways, and we lose sight of what we are here to do. Remember you cannot be a coach, speaker, or an "expert" if you are not willing to be vulnerable and let people see the real you. This is really where the magic happens. It is time to stop judging yourself, your lessons, and what you have learned as being "basic" because these lessons truly are more valuable than you realize. #179: What Your Triggers Are Telling You? In this Friday fact episode, we are talking about the concept of our triggers. We are all triggered by people, situations, behavior, stories, relationships, you name it, we all experience triggers. Here are a few of my thoughts on triggers and how to see what they are really telling you. I love this quote, "Just like the first breath of life, any engine must be triggered in order to turn it on." Toba Beta. In this episode, we discuss: Triggers always teach us something about ourselves that is unhealed that needs to be healed for us to move forward. Triggers are causing us to react to a situation instead of us living in intention. They are showing you something you don't like. Listen to one of my past episodes on triggers. Episode #129, Celebrate The Triggers, https://apple.co/3p4Ckv2 Start with being aware of what your triggers are, you know who triggers you. Learn to recognize and celebrate your triggers. What boundaries can you put into place to protect this trigger of emotion, reaction, and energy? Recognize it when it happens, don't fight or resist it. See it, smile, and let it be as it is. Don't be attached to how someone else is behaving or showing up. Join me live starting on November 1st for 10 days as I dive into each of the blockages that you are experiencing on Owning Your Story. S3 Ep 178#178: Taking Responsibility Helped Me Beat Cancer + Depression with Jill Bunny

#178: Taking Responsibility Helped Me Beat Cancer + Depression with Jill Bunny Today we are speaking with CBT-Fitness Health Coach, Functional Medicine Health Coach, Jill Bunny. Dedicated and energetic fitness professional, Jill Bunny specializes in CBT-Fitness (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) with 15+ years' extensive experience in Functional Nutrition, Human Kinetics, and Psychology. Retired professional athlete, turned Cancer Survivor and MS warrior, Jill inspires her audiences to view responsibility as one of the key pillars to owning fitness, health, and life. In this episode, we discuss: By taking responsibility for the choices Jill made, and stopping the blame game/excuses, she was able to regain the mental and physical strength she needed to fight Cancer, put MS back into remission, and beat depression. Our learned experiences carry a lot of weight in our lives, in how we show up and how we push through our experiences. It took experiencing things such as degeneration in her eyesight, extreme fatigue, and changes in balance before a diagnosis of MS. The next challenge for Jill was her diagnosis of thyroid cancer. This was a lot of things to digest in a very short period of time. These things challenged her identity, and her need for personal control, and this was the time that she needed to shift her focus into CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). The shift required asking others for help and recognizing who was actually there to help her. Learning to let go of control was the major shift and turning point in her life. How all of our experiences shape us for how we show up in our lives and how we can use our experiences to share with and impact others. Jill now offers CBT Certification programs for fitness professionals and coaches. S3 Ep 177#177: Your Perception of the Obstacle is Everything

#177: Your Perception of the Obstacle is Everything In this mindset episode, we are talking about the 4 blocks to owning your story and your perception of the obstacles that you are facing. We are talking all things perception, how to approach it differently, how you can work through these blocks to owning your story to create massive shifts in your life. In this episode, we discuss: The obstacle doesn't change. Our perception of the obstacle is everything. We can change how we approach it, the meaning we give it, how we see it and react to it. If your friend came to you with the exact same problem would your answers to her be the same as the words of advice you give to yourself? It usually isn't because we are ridiculously hard on ourselves. By taking ourselves out of the equation we can actually change our perception of the obstacle. Our perception is everything. Our brain precedes all of our actions, so how we perceive it dictates how you will react to it. The mental mindset work is worth its weight in gold. You never know when or where you will need it, and it is will help you to deal with the obstacles you have to deal with. What if your perception and how you are approaching the obstacle are part of the problem? If you are part of the problem, then you are also part of the solution. How cool is that mindset shift?
