Intimacy anorexia is relationship disorder that is marked by a lack of intimacy in a relationship. It occurs when someone in a relationship actively withholds emotional, spiritual and sexual intimacy from their spouse or partner. This lack of intimacy harms the marriage, damages the relationship causing pain and loneliness and impacts the spouse or partner significantly. Dr. Douglas Weiss coined the term "intimacy anorexia" when he started seeing a separate, yet related aspect of sexual anorexia in his private psychological counseling practice. He was able to link these cases of sexual anorexia into a broader spectrum of related issues and noted that people engaging in this type of withholding behavior did it for other reasons that those typically associated with sexual anorexia. Nate Larkin, author of Samson and the Pirate Monks, shares about the struggles men face with porn who are in the church, his story and how he overcame it, and what other men can and should do. Nate Larkin is the founder of the Samson Society. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Nate started out as a church planter in the 1980's but abandoned the pastoral ministry after five years because he was in despair over his inability to gain victory over porn and prostitution. He went into business, forming Engineering Support Team, a company that provides marketing, customer care and technical writing services for forensic engineers. After two decades of secret sexual behavior, Nate was discovered by his wife. That's when he finally sought help. His first steps toward freedom came in a 12-step recovery program, which breathed new life into his experience of the gospel. In 2004, Nate and a few friends launched the Samson Society in Franklin, Tennessee, as a place where Christian men of every description – not just those battling addiction – can bring their real selves, say the real truth, and walk together in the light. Dr. Gene Getz is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, earned a BA from Rocky Mountain College, an MA from the Wheaton Graduate School and a Ph.D. from New York University. He has served as a professor at Moody Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary. After 20 years in the academic world, Gene became involved in church planting and, in 1972, launched the Fellowship Bible Church movement.
