Secret Service as a Special Agent in Denver Field Office and later with the Counter Assault Team in Washington, D.C. Prior to becoming a Special Agent, served for 8 years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps (peacetime service -- no combat deployments) with: 3rd Marine Division in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii Marine Corps Ground Defense Security Forces in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Virginia My proudest professional accomplishment is earning the title of a U.S. Marine and serving as an infantry officer. My experience as a Marine instilled a set of values, physical and mental fortitude, and drive to succeed that define my work ethic. That experience early in my adult life also helped me become extremely adaptable to change. I embrace change and love it. Personally (and most importantly), I absolutely adore and am very proud of my wife and daughters. They are kind, loyal, funny, and inspire me to be a better man. There are a lot of different definitions of an authentic leader but mine would be an individual who is self-aware of their strengths and weakness, leads with integrity, has purpose, puts others above themselves, and doesn't pretend to be something they are not. My mission at the present time is to develop into a truly authentic leader – a man who leads with the same conviction at home that he does at work. Goals keep us on point and help us to see the bigger picture in life. Do you have any goals for the new year?

I'm the happily married father of 12 children and live on a farm in Virginia, but this is a miracle. In 1992, I was a broke, divorced father of a two-year-old son. I didn't want to marry again and I didn't want any more children. Today I have a strong marriage, eight sons and four daughters. Pretty crazy. The most formative years of my adult life were in the Army. For 20 years I was an Armored Cavalry Officer and China Foreign Area Officer. I served in the U.S., Europe, throughout the U.S. Government, in The Pentagon, the Hong Kong Consulate and the Beijing Embassy. I left the Army in 2002 to start businesses but had to do it part time because I had to feed my family. I worked for Northrop Grumman, IBM, ManTech and other corporations. I got the best training in the world from the Army and these iconic American corporations. I started my first business in 2002. Business ownership is scary, liberating and addictive, but making money using your creativity and wits is life-changing. I have started several companies, but I crashed the best one in 2007 when I tried to drive it too fast. That same month my daughter got cancer and that same year my son was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Lots of challenges. Crashing that business when I did made me look hard in the mirror and confront my life. As a husband, as a father, as a man, I wasn't stacking up. I had to learn new skills and dig deep to get back on my feet. I had to heal a lot of wounds I had caused. I had to grow, learn and improve. A lot. In one of our legacy episodes (published under the name The Man Card Podcast and ministry name The Great Hunt for God) bestselling author John Eldredge joined Jim Ramos to discuss his book Wild at Heart. They talk you through the three purposes of every man. Every man lives to have an Adventure to live, a Beauty to rescue, and a Battle to fight. John Eldredge is an American author, counselor, and lecturer on Christianity. He is known for his bestselling book Wild at Heart. Eldredge describes himself, "I'm 55. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My wife Stasi and I have three sons. My graduate degree is in counseling. Professionally, I'm a writer and a speaker. I don't pastor. I'm not a preacher. I don't have a church that I lead." While living in Los Angeles Eldredge was looking for a "worldview." After exploring other religions, Eastern mysticism, Lao-Tzu, and New Age spirituality, he discovered the writings of Francis Schaeffer, whom he calls one of the best philosophers of the 20th century. Through Schaeffer, Eldredge came to Christ and later to the church. He eventually got a master's degree in counseling and practiced in Colorado Springs before working for Focus on the Family, where he served as Senior Fellow for Christian Worldview. John received his undergraduate degree in theater from California Polytechnic University (Pomona) and his MA in biblical counseling from Colorado Christian Universityunder the direction of Dr. Larry Crabb and Dr. Dan Allender. Prior to joining Focus on the Family in 1988, John served for five years on the staff of Sierra Madre Congregational Church in Southern California. In July 2000, John left Focus on the Family, where he worked for 12 years, to launch Ransomed Heart Ministries. John travels extensively in the U.S. and abroad. John, his wife, Stasi, and their three sons live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
