A group of Havelock North residents are considering legal action in a last-ditch bid to prevent a crematorium being built in the middle of the village. Lawyers say the only avenue open to them is to get the 2024 resource consents, issued by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and the Hastings District Council, overturned. The Government has confirmed it plans to funnel more money into New Zealand's film production sector. The $577 million injection over the rest of this year and the next four brings the total International Screen Production Rebate to $1.09 billion. Eligible productions can access a 20 percent rebate where production costs are more than $15m for feature films, and $4m for television productions. Experts have raised concerns after natural gas production took a nosedive. Ten thousand New Zealanders may have lost vision – sometimes permanently – because of toxoplasmosis, an infection triggered by a parasite spread by cats. University of Otago researchers estimate 40,000 people are affected by ocular toxoplasmosis – one in four seriously – but their efforts to develop new treatments are being hampered by a lack of funding. The long-time broadcaster revealed he was was suffering several health problems after his weight climbed to 135 kilos.
