Today's OCR cut probably won't be the last in the current cycle, according to new claims. The Reserve Bank's Monetary Policy Committee agreed to cut the cash rate 50 basis points to 2.5 percent. They expect the tough economic conditions to stop inflation getting too high. NZ Herald Business Editor at Large Liam Dann says there's definitely scope for at least one more cut. Social media giant Meta has tried to issue a defence, despite ongoing efforts to regulate the technology in Parliament. National MP Catherine Wedd recently put forward a member’s bill to ban social media for under-16s - a plan backed by the Prime Minister. Wedd says this technology is causing harm to young people and it needs to be taken seriously. "That addiction leads to other places, it leads to cyberbullying, it leads to anxiety, it leads to depression - and we see some of our kids going into deep, dark places on social media." Winston Peters supports banning protests outside of people's homes. Submissions close today on a proposed law change, to prohibit disruptive demonstrations outside private residences. Pro-Palestine demonstrators last week protested outside the Foreign Minister's Auckland home after Israeli forces intercepted a flotilla headed to Gaza, including three Kiwis. Peters says this new law aims to provide clarity. "Everyone is entitled to their peace in their neighbourhood, and if you want to protest, there's places for protesting - but it isn't outside of people's homes." The suspect is still at large following the shooting and killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.  The Donald Trump ally was shot during an event at Utah Valley University this morning and later died in hospital.  Trump has expressed his shock and sadness and ordered all US flags to half-mast.  US correspondent Ira Spitzer says Kirk was an influential figure who helped Trump secure the youth vote in the 2024 election - and investigations are currently ongoing. A police officer's undergoing surgery after being shot in the head by Marokopa fugitive Tom Phillips - as the search continues for two of his children. Police were alerted to a burglarly in Piopio around 2.30am, and laid spikes on a rural road more than half an hour away. That brought the quad bike Phillips and one of his children were travelling on to a stop - and an officer approached, but he was shot with a high-powered rifle. A second officer shot Phillips, who died at the scene. NZ Herald reporter Jamie Lyth is in Marokopa - and she joined the Afternoons team with the latest. A major police operation is underway to find fugitive Marokopa father Tom Phillips' remaining two children - after he was shot dead by police on a rural Waikato road. Newstalk ZB reporter Jordan Dunn is near the police operation in the Waikato. He says a lot of resources have been deployed. "There are cordons on the way to Marokopa and there's a police presence around where that robbery was.
