One fellow industry lead has welcomed the news of Sky TV purchasing Three Now and TV3. Warner Brothers Discovery has sold its New Zealand television arm, saying it was no longer commercially viable on its own. KiwiRail has made the move to ban workers from using sleep aids such as melatonin and Zopiclone, citing safety concerns. Civil Defence is bracing for the worst as wild weather is set to thrash the upper South Island.   MetService has issued a red heavy rain warning for Tasman off the back of three weeks of rain saturated the region.   Nelson-Tasman's under a state of emergency and has activated its emergency operations centre.  Civil Defence Controller Alec Louverdis says they have clear messages to those at risk.   He says previously flooded residents should self-evacuate and those in region should avoid roads or going near waterways as it's a threat to life.   Orange rain warnings are also in effect for Marlborough, Mount Taranaki, east of Kawerau, Waikato, the Coromandel, Auckland, and Northland.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A plan to revive the extinct Moa has sparked debate - and excitement - among experts. US company Colossal Bioscience has partnered with Ngai Tahu in a $50 million project to revive the flightless bird through gene editing and surrogate hatching. Thylacine Integrated Genomic Restoration Research Laboratory head Andrew Pask says bringing the moa back could help fix many of the environmental issues impacting New Zealand. "It's one of those species that we've lost due to humans coming into an environment - but these species were so critically important in maintaining the ecosystems which they came from." A major fire has engulfed a central Auckland supermarket, with acrid smoke billowing across the CBD since 11am. The Victoria Park New World's been evacuated - with more than 30 firefighters racing to the scene. Caller Susie Nordqvist says homeowners in the surrounding neighbourhoods have been ordered to close their windows - and reports claim people can see the smoke from as far as Auckland's North Shore. "We've heard it may have started in a storeroom, but that's just word of mouth at the moment. It's caused a lot of damage and traffic disruptions this afternoon." There's growing calls to implement price controls on alcohol sold at off-licence stores to boost the hospitality industry and reduce the negative impacts of alcohol harm. Experts say a significant percentage of alcohol consumed in New Zealand is purchased at an off-licence and consumed in the home, where there's more room for harm.
