A new report by  Outward Bound reveals young Kiwis are feeling less optimistic about the future than ever, with a majority believing the world is on a downward trajectory. The report shows over a quarter of young people have 'little to no confidence' and one in four young men report having zero close friends. Outward Bound CEO Malindi MacLean says young people feel like they have less power to change the world around them, and this perceived lack of agency feels confronting. "Young people who spend more than four hours a day online... they're feeling like they have less agency and control. Civil Defence is warning landslides can happen without warning, after this week's record-breaking downpours across the upper North Island. The adverse weather conditions have triggered slips across the region, and people have been put at risk as a result. Andrew Stolte from the University of Auckland explained how to identify banks or cliffs that could pose a risk. "At the top, if a slip is starting to happen, you might see evidence of cracks forming at the top of a slope, indicating that mass is going to come down and move at you." Fire and Emergency says crews won't stop searching until everyone is found, following a landslide that tore through Mount Maunganui’s Beachside Holiday Park. Fewer than 10 people are still unaccounted for - including young people. Voices haven't been heard since soon after the slip smashed through tents, cars, caravans, a toilet block and the pools, and investigations are still ongoing. Disastrous land movement in Mount Maunganui this morning, following days of adverse weather impacting the upper North Island. Several people are unaccounted for after a slip near a campsite earlier today, at the base of Mount Maunganui's Mauao. People still aren't accounted for in Mount Maunganui's Beachside Holiday Park, after a landslide roared into the campsite at the base of the mountain earlier this morning. Tauranga City Council says most people have been evacuated from the park, and they're contacting campground guests who checked in and out. Young people are among those not accounted for, as rescuers search Mount Maunganui's Beachside Holiday Park, which was slammed by a landslide this morning. Fire and Emergency says they've heard no signs of life inside the slip since this morning, with numbers affected in the single figures. It hit tents, cars, caravans, a toilet block, and the hot pools. Officials say the number of people not accounted after a campground landslide at the base of Mount Maunganui is in the single figures and includes young people.  Rescuers are working at Beachside Holiday Park, devastated by a slip this morning that swamped tents, cars, caravans, a toilet block, and the hot pools.  Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell told Matt Heath and Tyler Adams that it’s definitely still an active rescue situation, and those on the ground are flat-out busy.   He says it's a substantiative slip and there’s extensive damage, but the team is working as quickly and diligently as they can.   Mitchell says the community has been outstanding in their support for those impacted, and they’re all trying to wrap as much support, comfort, and reassurance around them as possible.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today marks a significant anniversary for Newstalk ZB's Raylene Ramsay, as she celebrates 40 years with NZME. Ramsay started out in radio in 1976 as an intern at 2ZB Wellington, before returning as a network newsreader for Radio New Zealand. She’s since co-hosted 2ZB's breakfast show with Lindsay Yeo, presented 9 to Noon for 2ZA in Palmerston North and worked as a breakfast network newsreader for Classic Hits. A 10-year-old girl, a rabbi and a Holocaust survivor are among the dead following a terror attack targeting a Jewish gathering in Australia's Bondi. Last night, two gunmen opened fire on a crowd of about 1,000 people celebrating the first day of Hanukkah. Fifteen victims were killed and more than 40 people are in hospital.  Deakin University associate professor Dr Joshua Roose says anti-Semitism has been on the rise following the October 7 attacks and a bipartisan solution is needed. Australian authorities say no stone will be left unturned as the country confronts a terrorist attack on one of the country's most famous beaches. Sixteen people are dead and more than 40 injured - after two gunmen dressed in black opened fire at a Jewish Hanukkah celebration last night, just before 9pm NZT. Preventing reproduction can extend lifespan in mammals across a wide range of species, a new study has found. A major international study led by the University of Otago has found that blocking reproduction increases lifespan in both males and females across a wide range of species. The Resource Management Act is officially bound for the scrapheap. The Government's replacing the hefty legislation with two new laws - one based around planning, and the other on the environment. More than 2,000 greyhounds urgently need new owners following the Government's decision to ban greyhound racing in 2026.   Now comes news that The Simpsons have taken the unusual step of getting involved, lending New Zealand the use of one of the world’s most recognisable dogs: Santa’s Little Helper. Behind this effort is the charity committed to finding safe homes for retired racing greyhounds: Greyhounds as Pets.   Lisa Philp from Greyhounds as Pets told Matt Heath & Tyler Adams, "(greyhounds) are the best. They're lazy, gentle, loyal, gorgeous, and quiet." Deloitte's Top 200 awards took place at Auckland's Viaduct Event Centre last night, with New Zealand space company Rocket Lab, founded by Peter Beck, taking the title of Company of the Year.  NZ Herald Technology Editor Chris Keall joined Matt and Tyler to chat about the win. From December 10, Australia is requiring multiple major social media platforms and websites to remove underage accounts or face a hefty fine in their under-16 social media ban. The platforms effected include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. This move by the Australian Government is a world first, and has sparked conversations in other countries, including New Zealand.   But, Free Speech Union CEO Gillaine Heather calls it 'legislative virtue signalling'. "I think the problem is real. You know, if there's predatory algorithms, if there's harm to kids from some of the social media, address the problem, but make it a proportional response," she told Matt and Tyler.
