The honesty box - a small stall where Kiwi farmers can sell their produce - has been a road trip tradition, but there's been an uptick in thieves. Farmers and residents have voiced outrage as thieves have been taking money and products away from the stalls, and people are fed up. My Honesty Box creator David Clark says his company has tried to update the concept with QR codes and digital payments, but the experience is still a mixed bag. The Government has ditched the idea of a referendum on a four year electoral term this election. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says a bill has been taken to select committee as part of coalition agreements.  But he says to have a referendum would require passing the bill through the rest of the stages in enough time before the election.  Goldsmith says the Government can't do everything at once, and taking care of more pressing issues, like crime, is more important at this stage. There's calls from experts, concerned citizens and politicians alike over whether animal control has enough powers and resources to lock animals up. A woman was mauled to death by dogs at a Kaihu home yesterday morning.  SPCA senior scientific officer Alison Vaughan says the current laws are out of date, and a review is needed - plus additional funding. "The Dog Control Act is 30 years old, it's hopelessly out of date with modern science and what we know for other jurisdictions in terms of what is acceptive." There's growing calls for additional regulations around feral dogs - and a recent attack has sparked renewed debate. A woman was killed in Northland's Kaihu yesterday by dogs, and the attack has prompted concern and outrage. NZ First MP Shane Jones says the character of the owners involved is more feral, and there needs to be a no-tolerance policy. "What else do we need to happen, before we as a community - quite apart from the politicians - move in and do what my dad used to do? If you have a stray, feral dog, it got shot." A lot of the country's small businesses are feeling the end of financial year sting. Data from Xero shows 75 percent of the New Zealand small business owners surveyed say the current financial year has been more stressful than past years. Nearly half had considered giving up their business due to stress, with 67 percent citing financial management as their main worry. The Government's removing the full license test as part of major changes - saying it will save time and money. Drivers under 25 will spend a year on their restricted before moving to their full, while over 25s will get six months. A zero alcohol limit will apply to people on their learners' or restricted, regardless of their age. Most changes will come into effect next year. Former National leader Judith Collins is retiring from politics to take a new job as President of the Law Commission, starting from mid-year.  The MP for Papakura entered Parliament in 2002.   She was a Minister in the Key Government, and ran for the party leadership three times - assuming the role in 2020, before stepping down in 2021. A new report by  Outward Bound reveals young Kiwis are feeling less optimistic about the future than ever, with a majority believing the world is on a downward trajectory. The report shows over a quarter of young people have 'little to no confidence' and one in four young men report having zero close friends. Outward Bound CEO Malindi MacLean says young people feel like they have less power to change the world around them, and this perceived lack of agency feels confronting. "Young people who spend more than four hours a day online... they're feeling like they have less agency and control. Civil Defence is warning landslides can happen without warning, after this week's record-breaking downpours across the upper North Island. The adverse weather conditions have triggered slips across the region, and people have been put at risk as a result. Andrew Stolte from the University of Auckland explained how to identify banks or cliffs that could pose a risk. "At the top, if a slip is starting to happen, you might see evidence of cracks forming at the top of a slope, indicating that mass is going to come down and move at you." Fire and Emergency says crews won't stop searching until everyone is found, following a landslide that tore through Mount Maunganui’s Beachside Holiday Park. Fewer than 10 people are still unaccounted for - including young people. Voices haven't been heard since soon after the slip smashed through tents, cars, caravans, a toilet block and the pools, and investigations are still ongoing. Disastrous land movement in Mount Maunganui this morning, following days of adverse weather impacting the upper North Island. Several people are unaccounted for after a slip near a campsite earlier today, at the base of Mount Maunganui's Mauao. People still aren't accounted for in Mount Maunganui's Beachside Holiday Park, after a landslide roared into the campsite at the base of the mountain earlier this morning. Tauranga City Council says most people have been evacuated from the park, and they're contacting campground guests who checked in and out. Young people are among those not accounted for, as rescuers search Mount Maunganui's Beachside Holiday Park, which was slammed by a landslide this morning. Fire and Emergency says they've heard no signs of life inside the slip since this morning, with numbers affected in the single figures. It hit tents, cars, caravans, a toilet block, and the hot pools. NZ Herald reporter Michael Morrah says police have confirmed the number of people unaccounted for is in the 'single figures' - and recovery efforts are under way. Officials say the number of people not accounted after a campground landslide at the base of Mount Maunganui is in the single figures and includes young people.  Rescuers are working at Beachside Holiday Park, devastated by a slip this morning that swamped tents, cars, caravans, a toilet block, and the hot pools.  Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell told Matt Heath and Tyler Adams that it’s definitely still an active rescue situation, and those on the ground are flat-out busy.   He says it's a substantiative slip and there’s extensive damage, but the team is working as quickly and diligently as they can.   Mitchell says the community has been outstanding in their support for those impacted, and they’re all trying to wrap as much support, comfort, and reassurance around them as possible.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today marks a significant anniversary for Newstalk ZB's Raylene Ramsay, as she celebrates 40 years with NZME. Ramsay started out in radio in 1976 as an intern at 2ZB Wellington, before returning as a network newsreader for Radio New Zealand. She’s since co-hosted 2ZB's breakfast show with Lindsay Yeo, presented 9 to Noon for 2ZA in Palmerston North and worked as a breakfast network newsreader for Classic Hits. She returned upstairs to Newstalk ZB in 2018 as a newsreader for Afternoons and Drive and went on to win the Services to Broadcasting award in 2020.  Matt Heath and Tyler Adams looked back on her 40 years in the business.
