The Middle East is being rocked by explosions - and questions are circulating on Iran's governance. The US and Israel have bombed more than 2000 targets in Iran and killed close to 800 people. The conflict has sparked criticisms over the international response, but one expert is pushing back against Helen Clark's condemnation of our Government. Over the weekend, Israel and the US launched an all-out missile attack on Iran in an operation that has been dubbed 'Operation Epic Fury.' Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in the strikes along with 48 other senior Iranian regime figures.  The attack comes at a time of widespread unrest in Iran, after Ali Khamenei's government killed tens of thousands of protestors opposing the regime.  Founder of Iranian Women in New Zealand Dr. Forough Amin told Matt and Tyler that, 'We know that it's going to prevent the regime from killing more people, and Iranians have been celebrating.' The New Zealand government says it's tough on crime policies are working. New reports show alcohol consumption is at an all-time low, and there's concerns about what this could mean for the hospitality sector. Stats NZ figures show overall consumption dropped 8.3 percent, beer consumption fell 10 percent, wine was down 11 percent - with spirits rising by 1.3 percent. Sam MacKinnon from Hospitality NZ says it's likely rising costs are driving consumers away, but recent health trends are also a factor. There was controversy after the recent BAFTA Awards, after a guest with Tourette's syndrome shouted racial slurs when two black actors went on stage. John Davidson, whose life story inspired the film I Swear, used obscene language when Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo presented the first award of the night. Wellington-based start-up OpenStar is looking to make changes in the world of clean energy, and they've gotten financial support from the Government. They’ve successfully levitated a half tonne superconducting magnet, confining a cloud of ultra-hot plasma - which will help ultimately produce carbon-free energy. About 40 jobs are on offer for those willing to brave sub-zero temperatures and work in one of the most remote places on earth.   Antarctica New Zealand has launched a nation‑wide recruitment drive, inviting people across Aotearoa to work at Scott Base in Antarctica for the 2026/27 research season.  Winter Leader Stuart Kininmonth told Matt and Tyler that, "everyone that's listening could probably be involved." The honesty box - a small stall where Kiwi farmers can sell their produce - has been a road trip tradition, but there's been an uptick in thieves. Farmers and residents have voiced outrage as thieves have been taking money and products away from the stalls, and people are fed up. The Government has ditched the idea of a referendum on a four year electoral term this election. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says a bill has been taken to select committee as part of coalition agreements.  But he says to have a referendum would require passing the bill through the rest of the stages in enough time before the election.  Goldsmith says the Government can't do everything at once, and taking care of more pressing issues, like crime, is more important at this stage. There's calls from experts, concerned citizens and politicians alike over whether animal control has enough powers and resources to lock animals up. A woman was mauled to death by dogs at a Kaihu home yesterday morning.  SPCA senior scientific officer Alison Vaughan says the current laws are out of date, and a review is needed - plus additional funding. "The Dog Control Act is 30 years old, it's hopelessly out of date with modern science and what we know for other jurisdictions in terms of what is acceptive." There's growing calls for additional regulations around feral dogs - and a recent attack has sparked renewed debate. A woman was killed in Northland's Kaihu yesterday by dogs, and the attack has prompted concern and outrage. NZ First MP Shane Jones says the character of the owners involved is more feral, and there needs to be a no-tolerance policy. "What else do we need to happen, before we as a community - quite apart from the politicians - move in and do what my dad used to do? If you have a stray, feral dog, it got shot." A lot of the country's small businesses are feeling the end of financial year sting. Data from Xero shows 75 percent of the New Zealand small business owners surveyed say the current financial year has been more stressful than past years. Nearly half had considered giving up their business due to stress, with 67 percent citing financial management as their main worry. The Government's removing the full license test as part of major changes - saying it will save time and money. Drivers under 25 will spend a year on their restricted before moving to their full, while over 25s will get six months. A zero alcohol limit will apply to people on their learners' or restricted, regardless of their age. Most changes will come into effect next year. Former National leader Judith Collins is retiring from politics to take a new job as President of the Law Commission, starting from mid-year.  The MP for Papakura entered Parliament in 2002.   She was a Minister in the Key Government, and ran for the party leadership three times - assuming the role in 2020, before stepping down in 2021.
