Napier residents who cut down their wheelie bin use by composting and recycling could see their rates bill cut down too. The Less Waste Incentive is open to all Napier property owners who receive the council wheelie bin service. The Reserve Bank today moved to cut the OCR by 25 basis points to 3 percent, sparking debate among experts. While economists priced in a cut, some anticipated a 50 basis point cut - and the monetary policy committee was reportedly divided on the matter. Richmond-based café Coffee on Queen is pushing back against a ban on advertising flags, and one expert says it's a sign of a bigger problem. An article in the NZ Herald recently explored the realities of a private investigator who specialises in missing people, debt recovery and cheating spouses - and it's sparked discussion about the nature of the role. New Zealand's biggest energy players - Genesis, Meridian, Mercury and Contact - have formed a deal to stockpile coal at Huntly Power Station, and questions have been raised. The Government's proposal to eventually scrap NCEA qualifications has been met with approval from educators. The Government's looking at phasing NCEA out entirely within five years - with level one being replaced with a literacy and numeracy test and levels two and three giving way to educational certificates. US President Donald Trump has announced an increase to the current 10% tariff on NZ goods. As of today, the President has raised these tariffs to 15%, leaving exporters concerned about their businesses. President Trump says that this increase is a 'reciprocal' tariff. Senior Business Journalist John Weekes says that this comment has left confusion, as New Zealand does not impose tariffs on US products. Pioneering jewellery retailer Sir Michael Hill has died this morning, aged 86, after a cancer battle. An expansion of paid parking around Tauranga’s city centre has been met with outrage by residents. Liam Jackson, who lives near the CBD, revealed he would have to pay $10 a day to park outside his Park St home from August 4 after the council decided to expand paid parking to the city centre fringe. Eyebrows have been raised among experts as a growing number of Kiwi kids have been using AI as a personal companion.  AI has become a source of emotional support and companionship for 23 percent of New Zealand school children, according to cyber security firm Norton. He told us he was planning a funeral - his own - as he has a potentially terminal sarcoma.
