Professionally, she is a lawyer. She graduated Law school in Pavia (North of Italy) in 2013. Three years later, she attended Law school at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid. In 2016 she officially became a lawyer and started to work as a legal consultant in the winery. She is today part of Donne del Vino (Women of Wine) an association that brings together women from all over the world, producers, sommeliers, journalists and restaurateurs united by their passion for wine. The wine industry has always been men-oriented and only nowadays it is opening more and more to women: women's influence changed the business. Women globalized the market, redefined the trading relations and represent the fundamentals of this business. She is also involved in the Board of Directors of Assovini Sicilia, an association of Sicilian winemakers that brings together over 91 wine companies to promote the quality of Sicilian wine around the world. What links the members is love and passion for Sicily and an awareness that the Sicilian wine territories represent unique value in the Italian, European and international wine markets. Today Giovanna leads the family winery, the Caruso & Minini, together with her sister Rosanna and her husband Andrea representing the fourth generation. The three of them certainly have a focus on sustainability, both environmental -with reference to the use of clean energy during the winemaking processes - and social, having started a collaboration a few months ago with an ONLUS Laboratorio Zanzara (laboratoriozanzara.it) which has been in charge of the restyling of all labels and winery The three of them certainly have a focus on image. S6 Ep 1289Ep. 1289 Silvia Fonzone | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to Episode 1289 in which Marc Millon interviews Silvia Fonzone of the Fonzone Winery in Irpinia. More about the Fonzone Winery: The Fonzone Caccese estate is located in Paternopoli, one of the seventeen municipalities of the Taurasi DOCG area, in the province of Avellino. The company boasts over twelve hectares of Aglianico, out of which the following wines are produced: Mattoda’ Irpinia DOC Campi Taurasini and Scorzagalline Taurasi DOCG Riserva made with the grapes coming from the highest portion of the vineyard. Furthermore, the vineyards of Falanghina, destined for the production of the Irpinia Falanghina DOC Le Mattine, complete the vineyard area of the estate. The hill where the company estate extends, just outside the town, is located in the “Campi Taurasini” sub-area, and is surrounded by the municipalities of Villamaina, Castelfranci and Gesualdo, whose castle was inhabited by a branch of the Caccese family, from 1856 to 1980. The vineyards extend on both sides of the hill, benefiting from multiple exposures and an altitude ranging from 360 m to 430 m / above sea level. The hill includes both clayey – calcareous soils and looser textured soils, of clear sedimentary origin, and is surrounded by the Fredane and Ifalco streams, which clearly influence the microclimate of the entire area. Furthermore, given the proximity to Vesuvius as the crow flies, the first two layers of the soil have volcanic dust, deposit of the eruptions that took place over the centuries. S6 Ep 1266Ep. 1266 Vinitaly International Academy Campania | Everybody Needs A Bit Of Scienza

Welcome to Episode 1266, of #everybodyneedsabitofscienza. Today Stevie is with our favorite Professore Attilio Scienza in Campania, in Irpinia. They discuss the grape varieties, the territory, and the wine evolution of this important region. Scienza tells the three most important things to know about Campania wines and its territory that has a great future in the wine world. The Consortium “Tutela dei Vini dell’Irpinia” was established as a voluntary, non-profit association, on 2003. Less than 50 kilometres from Naples, thanks to the conformation of its territory, Irpinia is a land devoted to the production of fine wines. The peculiar orography of the territory results in particular microclimates, varying from area to area, which allow different types of wines to be produced. In fact, Irpinia, today, is the province in Campania with the highest concentration of vineyards and can boast the presence of three DOCG wines: Taurasi, Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino. The mission of the Consortium is to protect and enhance these wines, vine products, vineyards of Irpinia as a a national cultural heritage. Guest-Moderator “I'm Wayne Young, a transplanted American living and working in Friuli Venezia Giulia in Italy since 1998. After being awarded the WSET Diploma and stints working for Wine Spectator Magazine and as a somm at Joe Bastianich's Becco restaurant in New York, I decided to try my hand at cellar work. My plan was to return to New York and start a new chapter in the wine business after my first harvest... But three months became 4 years, and after marrying my Italian girlfriend, I moved to Udine permanently in 2002. I LOVE the wines from this region, and I love being able to have these conversations with the people who create them.” To learn more visit: Facebook /Waynegrape Instagram /Waynegrape Twitter @Waynegrape LinkedIn Wayne Young Website LaTavernaFriuli.it About today’s guest producer: After graduating in Oenology, Marko Primosic joins the family business in 1989, followed by his brother Boris a few years later. Marko helps his father Silvan in the management of the cellar, and he is especially involved in the creation of the quality selections that give birth to the white field blend “Klin”. Marko is also very committed to valorization of the local grape variety Ribolla Gialla. The work in the cellar is complemented by the commitment in promotion and sales of the Primosic wines in Italy and abroad: Marko becomes the sales director of the winery, and at first he travels through Europe, then he flies to America and Asia also. In the United States, he starts to be known as “Mr. Ribolla Gialla”, the winemaker who brought to the fore a grape variety that before was unknown overseas. In the 2000s he is more and more involved in the Collio Consortium: for several years, he is the vice-president of the Collio Consortium and becomes an ambassador of the Collio territory all over the world. In 2007, Marko Primosic and Stanko Radikon are the founders of the Association of Producers of the Ribolla di Oslavia (APRO). Thanks to this association, the winemakers in Oslavia share their experiences about Ribolla Gialla fermented on the skins and they work together to promote the ”Orange wines” from Oslavia. In an historic moment when more and more attention is given to sustainability and natural wines, the Ribolla di Oslavia made by Primosic winery is awarded by the most important wine guides and magazines. On describing his introduction to wine-tasting he recalled: “...my room-mate Adrian Cowell, committee member of the University Wine & Food Society came in after dinner with two glasses and said, "Come on, Hugh, are they the same? Or different?" Both were, I am sure, red Burgundy, but one was magic and one was ordinary. This caught my imagination. It was my Damascene moment.” Johnson has been writing about wine since 1960, was taken on as a feature writer for Condé Nast Publications upon graduation, and started work on Vogue and House & Garden, becoming in 1962 editor of Wine & Food and in the same year wine correspondent of The Sunday Times, of which in 1967 he became Travel Editor. From 1968 to 1970 he edited Queen magazine in succession to Jocelyn Stevens. He has published a wide array of books, starting with the publication of Wine in 1966. The World Atlas of Wine (1971) was considered the first serious attempt to map the world's wine regions, described by the director of the INAO as "a major event in wine literature". S6 Ep 1247Ep. 1247 The Challenging US Market | wine2wine Business Forum 2021

Welcome to Episode 1247; The Wine Consumer in a Challenging U.S. Market Welcome to wine2wine Business Forum 2021 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide. About this Session There has never been a more difficult time to sell wine in the U.S. At the same time the wine industry is dealing with a pandemic, historic drought, wildfires, and channel shifting to name a few, it is also dealing with an onslaught of attacks from the anti-alcohol movement while discovering a rotation of the older wine consumers into retirement, against the backdrop of a very different younger consumer. The result of the tumult is an industry that is likely to see a drop in volume sold for the first time since 1994. The industry context for selling wine is changing, at the same time the average consumer is changing. Hitting the consumer mark today is like throwing a dart at a target placed on a carousel. About the Speakers Rob McMillan is one of the top wine-business analysts in the United States and the author of Silicon Valley Bank’s highly regarded annual State of the Wine Industry Report, described by the New York Times as “… probably the most influential analysis of its kind.” With decades of experience researching the industry and working with winery clients, his views are sought after and trusted by winery owners, journalists, entrepreneurs, and investors. He is a prominent speaker, both domestically and internationally, and you will find him extensively quoted in national, regional, and trade press. He has also been named several times as one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in the US Wine Business.
