S6 Ep 1478Ep. 1478 Polly Hammond: Standing Out | wine2wine Business Forum 2022

This is the wine2wine Business Forum 2022 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide. About today’ session: Standing out in a noisy world: building memorable brands in turbulent times with Polly Hammond, moderated by Alice Wong IWA In a day and age when everyone has a voice, sometimes the best thing we can do is shut up and listen. But what does that mean when so much of our communication is online? How do we distill the signals from the noise? Won’t our loud competitors gain an advantage? And where do we even start with all that data? In this session, we’ll look at how your business can adopt Active Listening as part of a profitable digital strategy. You’ll leave with insights and actionables that will help you improve your messaging, strengthen your advertising, engender meaningful loyalty, survive impending privacy regulations, and – ultimately – stand out in a noisy world. About the Speaker: Polly Hammond is the Founder and CEO of 5forests, a globally-recognized, award-winning marketing agency for today’s lifestyle brands. She splits her time between Barcelona, Auckland, and Napa, consulting, writing, and speaking about the trends that impact today’s wine businesses. She’s an advisor to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, host of Uncorked with the Italian Wine Podcast, cohost of the Real Business of Wine with Robert Joseph, and, occasionally, a knitter. Polly is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned degrees in International Relations and French. Those studies led to a deep and abiding love affair with Behavioural Economics, and her work is based on insights into all the crazy and irrational reasons consumers engage with brands. Oh, and beware, she’s mad about pop culture and good stories, so any presentation is sure to have at least one Star Wars reference thrown in. Welcome to Episode 1477; part of our Italian wine interview series set in Bologna! Today’s interview is between Joy Livingston and Simone Benedetti of Cantine Benedetti. Stevie Kim and her team travelled to the Bologna Slow Wine Fair in March 2023. There they conducted dozens of interviews with some of Italy's most inspiring producers. Join the fun every Thursday afternoon! Tune-in each Thursday as we bring you the great interviews that unfolded over the course of 3 days. More about today’s Winery: Cantine Benedetti is a winery established in 1995 by our father Luigi. In 2002 the three brothers Giuseppe, Davide and Simone decided to lead the company and bring it to a higher level. Cantine Benedetti is an artisan winery that is run with the upmost care and dedication. As custodians of the land, the Benedetti brothers strive for excellence while protecting the traditions of the region and building the dream of their father and the original 15 acres. Some of their decisions mean that the process remains very labour intensive, but they feel that this is a small price to pay for first class wines. If you treat your land properly and you respect the plants, without chemicals and cutting corners, you will be rewarded with superior fruit. “From vine to bottle, a family tradition”. Our company uses only home grown grapes, giving us the ability to control the birth of our wines from the cultivation of the vines; this attentive care applied to every step and a deep love and passion for our land, gives us that marvellous product known as Valpolicella, in all its kinds. These choices don’t often follow the market’s rules, but they are to be perceived as an artist’s signature. S6 Ep 1468Ep. 1468 Gurvinder Bhatia: Understanding Consumer Behaviour | wine2wine Business Forum 2022

Welcome to Ep. 1468, How to Understand Consumer Wine Buying Behaviour? Stop listening to pseudo-experts, Gurvinder Bhatia IWE, Marianna Velenosi (mod) This is the wine2wine Business Forum 2022 Series. About today’ session: In order to communicate effectively with wine consumers, one must first understand human behaviour and accept that before someone is a wine consumer, they are a consumer. The wine industry too often fails to understand that making wine accessible is not about stratifying wine based on quality, but instead about appealing to a consumer’s (ie. individual’s) need to feel that they are benefiting from their purchasing decisions. All wine apps and data relied on to analyze wine buying behaviour rely on past purchases and predominantly well known wine labels that have wide distribution. The result is a narrowing and homogenization of the types of wines in the pool either recommended to consumers or relied upon by the wine industry to make decisions about consumers. But if the actual intent (as the wine industry likes to message) is to encourage consumers to explore, try and drink better (understand that quality and price are not mutually exclusive) then the wine industry needs to not just change the manner in which it communicates with consumers, but in many ways needs to return to the manner in which it communicated with consumers 20-30 years ago. The wine industry is in many ways its own worst enemy. About the Speakers Gurvinder Bhatia IWE Gurvinder Bhatia is the editor-in-chief and publisher for Quench Magazine – North America’s longest-running and Canada’s most widely distributed wine and food publication. Although he has written for Quench for over two decades and been on the editorial team for the past 15 years, Gurvinder purchased the magazine in 2021, and is committed to the magazine’s evolution to be a much truer representation of our society. Gurvinder is also the wine columnist for Global Television Edmonton, an international wine judge and the president of Vinomania Consulting. They began to travel in Italy learning the production areas, the philosophies of the individual wineries and the quality of the wines, but at the same time, they travelled a lot to Germany and other countries for the export of the wines of these wineries. In 2002 Sabrina; Marco and their father made a big investment and bought the Fosso Corno estate in Abruzzo. S6 Ep 1409Ep. 1409 Daniel Pfitscher | Italian Trade Agency Masterclasses In Germany

Welcome to Episode 1409; part of our Italian wine interview series set in Dusseldorf, Germany. Today Joy Livingston interviews Daniel Pfitscher Stevie Kim and her team travelled to Dusseldorf, Germany this March to collaborate with ITA, the Italian Trade Agency. ITA was organizing some incredible Masterclasses featuring the best wines Italy has to offer. Each masterclass was led by the Master Sommelier Eros Teboni (awarded Best Sommelier Worldwide in 2018), and they wanted us there to document the amazing 3 days! Tune-in each Thursday as we bring you the great interviews that unfolded over the course of 3 days. About today’s guest and winery: Daniel is the Conductor, sales wizard, and marketing guru at the Pfitscher winery. In 2011 when their parents decided to move away from the village centre of Montagna to set up a new winery, their main concern was to ensure that the premises were firmly embedded in their natural surroundings whilst retaining maximum functionality. Despite, or perhaps because of its straight lines, the building was intended to sink into the background, leaving the stage clear for the real stars: nature, the landscape and... the wine. Simple shapes and a predominantly black colour scheme ensure that these leading actors are never out of sight. Through its enormous window facade, the tasting room, offers breath-taking views of the South Tyrolean lowlands and the surrounding mountains. In the cellar, a trail of colours leads the way, ending with dark blue in the Blauburgunder (Pinot noir) cellar. Definitely a must-see! S6 Ep 1449Ep. 1449 What Pricing Communicates | wine2wine Business Forum 2022

Welcome to episode 1449, What Pricing Communicates (for Fine Wine) with Peter Yeung This is the Wine2Wine Business Forum 2022 Series. The sessions are recorded and uploaded on Italian Wine Podcast. wine2wine is an international wine business forum, held annually in Verona Italy since 2014. The event is a key reference point for wine producers and a diverse variety of wine professionals eager to develop and grow their wine business worldwide. About today’ session: Pricing, for fine and luxury wines, is always a complex topic. Whereas for more “commodity” or everyday wines, where pricing is a function of the what market will bear, pricing for fine wines has many embedded messages in it. It communicates where the brand is positioned (or desires to be positioned) in a regional and global market. It sends a message to consumers about the winery’s value proposition to them. In this session, we will explore both the art and science of fine / luxury wine pricing and what pricing communicates to the marketplace. About the Speakers Peter Yeung Peter Yeung (pronounced “young”) is a leading wine business consultant, developing strategic business plans and innovative marketing plans for the wine industry. He is the author of the book “Luxury Wine Marketing” and the host of the XChateau podcast. He was previously Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at Realm Cellars in Napa and Kosta Browne Winery in Sonoma, managing the allocation systems and business analytics functions. Peter holds the WSET Diploma as well as the CIA’s Certified Wine Professional designations. Prior to wine, Peter led Strategic Marketing, Market Development, and Sales for a clean technology company in Silicon Valley and was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. Peter also holds a MSc from the London School of Economics and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley in Economics and is based in San Francisco. S6 Ep 1445Ep. 1445 Francesca Seralvo | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to Episode 1445 in which Marc Millon interviews Francesca Seralvo in today’s episode of Wine, Food & Travel More about today’s winery: The story of the Mazzolino Tenuta began about forty years ago with Francesca’s grandfather Enrico when, on one of his travels, was seduced by an area that everyone already called "the Pinot Noir hill." Two of his great friends, Luigi Veronelli and Giacomo Bologna helped him to embark on this journey; they noticed right away the potential of the white, chalky lands surrounding the winery, land that the French had discovered had a vocation for Pinot Noir back in the mid-19th century, when it was still "Old Piedmont." They began from the very beginning to get the rootstocks and the best wood for aging directly from Bourgogne. In the meantime, Francesca’s mother, Sandra, had thrown herself in with her usual determination, running the winery and never missed an opportunity to take Francesca with her to Mazzolino. She couldn't wait to leave because she knew she would spend whole days among the vineyards, the roses in the garden, the animals in the yard, including the ducks, chickens, donkeys and horses. In 2015 Francesca began to write a new history for the Tenuta implementing it with all the teachings she received from her grandfather and enriching it with innovation and creativity. The desire to learn and her tenacity were decisive. The winery has been approaching organic farming for a long time now, they respect nature to reap the fruit of what they have been growing every day. To learn more visit: en.tenuta-mazzolino.com/azienda More about the host Marc Millon: Marc Millon, VIA Italian Wine Ambassador 2021, has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about wine, food and travel for nearly 40 years.
