S6 Ep 1379Ep. 1379 Sebastiano De Corado | Wine, Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to Episode 1379 in which Marc Millon interviews Sebastiano de Corato of Azienda Vinicola Rivera. More about Azienda Vinicola Rivera: The de Corato family roots go deep into the agriculture of Puglia. Here, in the countryside of Andria, Sebastiano de Corato founded the Azienda Vinicola Rivera in the late 1940s, inspired by a vision of realising, and bringing to the world’s attention, the enormous viticultural potential of the Castel del Monte area. Widespread recognition quickly followed and since then Rivera, has become the benchmark of Puglia quality wine production and the force driving its rebirth, thanks also to innovations in both vineyards and winemaking introduced since the early 1980s by his son Carlo. Today, with the involvement of the third generation of the family represented by Carlo’s sons Sebastiano and Marco, Rivera continues with pride and renewed commitment the production of wines that eloquently express the intense yet elegant character of this land and its native grape varieties. The winery’s winemaking philosophy is rigorously applied to every step of the process: vineyard management, grape harvest, winemaking, maturation and bottling; the most up-to-date viticultural and oenological practices are married to the deepest respect for natural processes, with all activities focused on achieving environmental and economic sustainability and on continuous improvement in quality. S6 Ep 1368Ep. 1368 Massimiliano Menon | The Next Generation

Welcome to episode 1368, in which host Victoria Cece interviews Masimilliano Menon this week on The Next Generation. The Next Generation where Victoria Cece interviews young Italian wine people shaking up the wine scene. More about today’s guest: “I was born in Venice, attended “London South Bank” University in London and developed my green thumb here in Ridgewood, precisely in my backyard in Queens during the global pandemic. Felicity Lawrence’s book “Not on The Label” changed forever my understanding on environmental issues in production and packaging of food and drinks. Avoiding mass produced sugary abominations and promoting polyculture, biodiversity and a more conscientious lifestyle. Taking part in the first UK natural wine fair in Borough Market made me understand how a natural approach could have helped preserve wine’s interest. Not just wine as a homogenized commodity, placed in supermarkets and convenience stores but a diversity of distinctive fermented grape juice with a sense of place. Through my harvest experiences in Mendoza, Loire Valley and Penedes, I was lucky enough to understand that grapes are not just a raw ingredient in a manufacturing process but wine had a more socially responsible and ethical mission, the power to tell the story of its origin through passion, tradition, emotion, heritage, legacy and culture of those persons involved. Currently living in NYC, I am an Italian Sommelier Association Diploma (AIS) holder and Wine and Spirit Education Trust Advanced level (WSET) certified with a deep understanding and a holistic approach towards the business of food and wine. Unfortunately, consumers lack understanding of what wine and food is, let alone what authentic wine and food is. My objectives through the years pouring glasses to customers in Brooklyn was to help them progress in their journey, enhancing their dining and drinking experiences. When addressing specialist retailers and training restaurant staff member, informing them about the point of difference amongst organic, biodynamic and naturalness. Since that day at Oxfam where I found the book, I’ve always been convinced of food and wine as a driving force to change. My main role has always been to help people reconnecting to nature in a largely disconnected life.” To learn more visit: linkedin.com/in/massimiliano-menon-06389094 More about the host: Victoria Cece is a food and beverage storyteller whose curiosity is somewhere deep in a bowl of pasta or a bottle of wine. It consists of over 890 hectares of vineyards, planted in very different soil and climatic conditions, from which 7 million high quality bottles are obtained every year. Difficult to make customers, admirers and journalists perceive such a varied reality. The Frescobaldi’s succeeded by exhibiting the characteristic elements of their most important estates in a hall, and offering visitors a virtual journey through their biodiversity, using all five senses: smell and taste, in the first place, tasting the most significant wine, paired with gastronomic specialties of the area, and identifying one by one the perfumes in the essences that the oenologist of the estate made available. It was a game in which sight, touch and even hearing were also involved, with specially chosen pieces of music being listened to. An original way to get to know the ancient Frescobaldi properties, the Pomino Castle, the Castiglioni estate, the Nipozzano Castle, but also the more recent ones, Castelgiocondo, Montalcino, Santa Maria, in the Grosseto Maremma, Luce della Vite, born as a joint- venture with the Mondavi of Napa Valley and then fully acquired, and finally the Attems estate in the Gorizia Collio. Montesodi and Mormoreto come from the crus of Nipozzano, and Lamaione from those of Castelgiocondo: the SuperTuscans that have given the most satisfaction to the Frescobaldis. Today, the family winemaker, Lamberto Frescobaldi, takes care of its production and with him three other representatives of the latest generation already work in the company: Tiziana and Diana Frescobaldi and Stefano Benini. S6 Ep 1360Ep. 1360 Matthew Kaner | Masterclass US Wine Market With Juliana Colangelo

Welcome to Episode 1360 on Italian Wine Podcast, today on Masterclass US Wine Market With Juliana Colangelo she will be interviewing Matthew Kaner. More About today’s guest: Fermented grape juice has allowed me to have a voice within an industry full of characters and strong personalities. I quite enjoy how things smell and taste. In fact, as a kid I wouldn’t eat anything until I smelled it first. Now a 14+ year veteran of the wine world, my humble wine career began at the Wine Cask Wine Store in Santa Barbara, California where I also grew up. Moving to Los Angeles in 2006 brought an opportunity to work at Silverlake Wine, where I worked my way up from holiday help to the manager. In 2009, my close friend Dustin Lancaster came to him with an idea…”I want to open a wine bar and I’ll only do it if you’ll do it with me.” The only acceptable response: “you tell me when and where.” In July of 2010, Los Feliz’s Bar Covell opened with a new spin on wine…ditch the traditional wine list and use your words. Bar Covell has a program of over 150 wines by the glass and the staff instead start a conversation/interaction with each guest to gage what they are in the mood for at that moment. This was just the beginning... I was graciously was named one of the Sommeliers of the Year by Food & Wine Magazine in 2013. In early 2015 with Lancaster and new partner David Gibbs, the trio opened Augustine Wine Bar in Sherman Oaks. Augustine has been named Best Wine Bar in American by Food & Wine Magazine and gets critical acclaim for its Vintage Collection of wines that it makes available by the glass and by the bottle on their in-house chalk boards nightly. In August of 2019 Wine Enthusiast Magazine named me to the 40 Under 40 Tastemakers list for 2019! S6 Ep 1359Ep. 1359 Emilia Chunju | The Next Generation

Welcome to episode 1359, in which host Victoria Cece interviews Emilia Chunju this week on The Next Generation. The Next Generation where Victoria Cece interviews young Italian wine people shaking up the wine scene. More about today’s guest: Emilia, the founder of Le Yi Cup ASip Wine, is also one of the very few Italian Wine Ambassadors in Taiwan. She has lived in Milan for many years, & because she can’t forget the European life of drinking wine with meals and respecting Italy’s long history and enthusiasm for wine making, she decided to introduce exquisite wineries with professional spirit, introduce these traditional and unique wines to Chinese people, and convey the beauty of Italian vineyards through dinner parties, wine tasting parties, and wine lectures. Adhering to this concept, the founder and her friends had the idea of bringing Italian wine to life. Different from the general concept that wine must be drunk on specific occasions, ASip Wine believes in enjoying a glass of Italian wine in a relaxed way at any time. It allows the overly nervous pace of Taiwan to have a sense of leisure that can be found everywhere in European life. To learn more visit: www.asipwine.com/ More about the host: Victoria Cece is a food and beverage storyteller whose curiosity is somewhere deep in a bowl of pasta or a bottle of wine. A fool for history, you can find her reading up about ancient grape varietals or wandering around a little Italian town eating everything in sight, under her alias Slutti Spaghetti. S6 Ep 1357Ep. 1357 Alessandro Torcoli | On The Road Edition With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 1357, another episode of “On The Road Edition”, hosted by Stevie Kim. In this episode Stevie is in Cortina and is talking with Alessandro Torcoli More about today’s guest: To what extent Alessandro Torcoli made his passion for wine a profession or was it his profession, that of a journalist, that made him passionate about wine, we cannot know. Instead, it is certain that he is one of the greatest connoisseurs of wine tourism in Italy. His curriculum is public and easily traceable on the web, therefore we will not retrace the stages of his brilliant career here. We at FisarMilano know and appreciate him not only for his professionalism but also for his great availability . During the very sad period of the lockdown he kept us company for an evening leading us by the hand to discover some wines that he presented and described to us with loving passion . On this occasion we were also able to experience the more human side of his character: an affable and very courteous person like him, he then entertained himself to answer some questions that were posed to him, placing his many years of study at our disposal . The firmness and certainty of his answers may have made one think of a certain arrogance, a bit like some people who consider themselves "arrived". For him, however, this is not the case: he recently got back into the game by participating as a "student" in the courses organized by the Institute of Masters of Wine , which can only be accessed after having taken a very difficult exam, aimed at testing the deepest knowledge of the world wine. And while he is taking part in this "course" he directs his magazine Civiltà del Bere which is based in Milan at the Enoluogo wine shop where he can also be met and consulted for some buying advice. On 17 February 2022 he will be a guest again at FisarMilano: on this occasion he will present his new book, Vinology – Tasting course , of which we only know that it is an infographic manual (like the previous Vinology, a visual guide to d' Italy and the world) to learn to taste and to identify the peculiarities of each vine through our senses. Find out more by visiting: www.fisarmilano.org/magazine/2022/0…tutto-rispetto/ More about the host Stevie Kim: Stevie Kim hosts Clubhouse sessions each week (visit Italian Wine Club & Wine Business on Clubhouse), these recorded sessions are then released on the podcast to immortalize them! S6 Ep 1355Ep. 1355 Andrea Leone | Italian Trade Agency Masterclass Wineries In Germany

Welcome to Episode 1355; part of our new Italian wine interview series set in Dusseldorf, Germany. Today Joy Livingston interviews Andrea Leone, Export Manager of the Cotarella Family Wineries. Stevie Kim and her team travelled to Dusseldorf, Germany this March to collaborate with ITA, the Italian Trade Agency. ITA was organizing some incredible Masterclasses featuring the best wines Italy has to offer. Each masterclass was led by the Master Sommelier Eros Teboni (awarded Best Sommelier Worldwide in 2018), and they wanted us there to document the amazing 3 days! Tune-in each Thursday as we bring you the great interviews that unfolded over the course of 3 days. More about today’s winery: The brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella are two of the greatest exponents of Italian enology and their company, Falesco, produces some of the best Merlot, Cabernet, Sangiovese and Roscetto from all over Italy. Cotarella is a name to combine with Italian wine. The family, originally from Monterubiaglio , near Orvieto , began with a simple activity as local grape fermenters and wine producers that were used by larger bottlers of that important denomination. But it was the current generation, the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, that moved far beyond these modest origins, becoming a real driving force in the Italian panorama. Riccardo Cotarella , the eldest, began his career as a winemaker of a local company, but, starting from the 80s, he forged a career, as one of the most important, probably the most important, wine consultant in all of Italy , creating wines acclaimed and award winners across the country and becoming both the president of the Italian oenologists association and also the co-president of the international association. All of this may seem enough to satisfy most people, but the brothers seem to be permanently dissatisfied with what others would consider a success and have set up their own company in Umbria , again an amazing force. Over 370 hectares of vineyards is by no means a small property, and the millions of bottles produced annually have found their way to the world’s largest high-quality wine markets. First with a series of well made and extremely pleasant wines at reasonably low prices, to demonstrate that quality and quantity are quite easy to reconcile. And, in more recent years, with a new line, clearly called “Famiglia Cotarella” , which offers superb examples of Merlot, Cabernet, Sangiovese and Roscetto , among the best wines in Italy. More about the winery: www.famigliacotarella.it/gb/experienc…and-tastings More about the interviewer: Joy Livingston is the Producer of Italian Wine Podcast. Narrator extraordinaire and Scienza whisperer Joy Livingston has been known to edit the occasional book from time to time. If you want to learn more you can by visiting: Instagram: @thosewinemoments About today’s guest producer: Sonia Spadaro Mulone Sonia is the owner and CEO of Santa Maria La Nave., Sonia has transformed in few years a small family vineyard into a real jewel of Etnean viticulture and biodiversity. Despite the very limited quantities produced, Sonia's wines reach more than 20 countries in the World, are requested by some of the best restaurants and sophisticated collectors, and are appreciated by international critics (for instance Millesulmare 2016 has been included by Decanter in the list of the 50 Most Exciting Wines in the World). Sonia's mission is to protect Mount Etna's biodiversity and identify and work with ancient and almost extinct local grape varieties, while maintaining maximum respect to the Etna traditions, the environment and the local communities. S6 Ep 1348Ep. 1348 Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini | On The Road Edition With Stevie Kim

Welcome to episode 1348, another episode of “On The Road Edition”, hosted by Stevie Kim. In this episode Stevie is speaking with Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, a legendary lady of the Caparzo Winery. More about today's guest: Of Bolognese origins, but born and raised in Rome, Elisabetta does not come from a family of wine producers. Passionate about history, art and archaeology, however, she has always cultivated a passion for the countryside – her Bolognese ancestors cultivated peaches and maize – and, after working as a film producer in partnership with Luca Barbareschi, at the fateful 40 she finally fulfilled the dream of his life: to devote himself to the land by starting, almost by chance, to produce wine. The story begins in 1997 with the purchase of Borgo Scopeto in the Chianti Classico area , between Siena and Vagliagli . The Borgo, which today is a relais de charme called Borgo Scopeto Relais , is so spectacular that it was chosen by director Gary Winick to set part of his film "Letters to Juliet", starring Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero . The film, released in 2010 , surprisingly climbed the US charts : the presence, in a scene of the film, of Brunello Caparzo, positively influenced sales in the United States. But Borgo Scopeto is also a large farm that produces Chianti Classico and an excellent extra virgin olive oil . I studied enology at the highschool and then at the university, but I always follow my mother in her wine travels around the world. In the last ten years I spent more time in the vineyards instead to travel for the wine business because I love work in contact with nature and because I want to follow the road of my father as a winemaker. S6 Ep 1337Ep. 1337 Enrico Coser | Italian Trade Agency Masterclass Wineries In Germany

Welcome to Episode 1337; part of our new Italian wine interview series set in Dusseldorf, Germany. Today Joy Livingston interviews Enrico Coser of Ronco dei Tassi winery. More about today’s guest: Enrico Coser’s wine was featured in the “Bordeaux Blends of Italy” masterclass. The Friuli region, located in north-eastern Italy on the Slovenian border, is renowned for being home to some of Italy’s most avant-garde winemakers. Ronco dei Tassi, however, stands out from the crowd with its firm commitment to tradition, producing layered, elegant wines that speak of the terroir and the land from which they come. The winery is guided by Fabio Coser, previously a consulting oenologist in the area, who purchased the estate in 1989 with his wife, Daniela. At the time, the property comprised about 22 acres, 10 of which were already planted to vine, in the heart of the Collio Goriziano in the township of Cormòns. The name of the winery itself is closely tied to the region: “ronco” is the word in Friulian dialect to describe a “hillside, terraced vineyard,” while “tassi” refers to the badgers who often pay visit to the vineyards to enjoy the harvest’s juiciest grapes. Sons Matteo and Enrico have joined the family business and the estate has grown to over 30 hectares (75acres), 18 (45 acres) of which are planted to vines. The remainder of the land has been left as woodland, considered essential to maintaining the delicate balance between cultivation and forest, allowing sustainable agricultural practices to be implemented most effectively. The estate is ideally positioned at the boundary of the Plessiva Natural Park, an oasis protected by the Friuli region, and as such provides a safe haven and ideal habitat for local flora and fauna to flourish. The family firmly believes in the value of protecting this little corner of paradise, acting as a guarantee to ensure the future of this splendid territory and its wines. More about the winery: roncodeitassi.it/en/ More about the interviewer: Joy Livingston is the Producer of Italian Wine Podcast. Narrator extraordinaire and Scienza whisperer Joy Livingston has been known to edit the occasional book from time to time. When Joy is not busy Producing the podcast she is also working hard on the Mamma Jumbo Shrimp YouTube channel where many of the interviews stream on video! Let's keep in touch! S6 Ep 1334Ep. 1334 Sandro Boscaini | Wine Food & Travel With Marc Millon

Welcome to Episode 1334 in which Marc Millon interviews Sandro Boscaini, Chairman/Co-Managing Director, Masi Agricola Spa More about Masi Agricola: Representing the sixth generation of family ownership and management, Sandro Boscaini heads Masi Agricola today, one of the most important vignerons and winemakers in Valpolicella. The historic Masi headquarters are in the center of Valpolicella, a lovely hilly area between Lake Garda and Verona. Differentiating the winery from others is the Boscaini family’s careful selection of specific vineyard sites, their use of indigenous grape varietals, and their respect for historic winemaking techniques from the region, which are constantly updated by Masi Technical Group. Coordinated by Raffaele Boscaini, Masi Technical Group is made up of experts from different disciplines — including agronomists, oenologists, and experts in quality control, marketing, and sales – and works with national and international institutions and universities. Some of its most important projects include innovations in the appassimento technique, which has been used to create a modern style of Amarone and has achieved international success. Appassimento is the traditional method used in the Veneto region to concentrate aromas and flavors in wine. Before vinification, grapes are laid out on bamboo racks in drying lofts over the winter, an ancient technique used for centuries in the region. Passed down through generations in the Boscaini family, this craft has been modified innovatively by the Masi Technical Group and is used today to make fresh and lively wines from dried grapes, notably Amarone. The APPAXXIMENTO® symbol signifies Masi’s expertise in appassimento in the 21st century and guarantees the authenticity and quality of Masi wines. To learn more about the company visit: www.masi.it/en More about the host Marc Millon: Marc Millon, VIA Italian Wine Ambassador 2021, has been travelling, eating, drinking, learning and writing about wine, food and travel for nearly 40 years.
