Another team is trying to navigate their way around a disaster surrounding Pride Night. The LA Dodgers rescinded an invitation for Pride Night to a group that is mostly men dressing up as nuns back on May 17th. Five days later they extended the invitation again after receiving some backlash. Now future HOFer Clayton Kershaw is upset at the team for having them back on the schedule. He's not alone. Trevor Williams of the Nationals also blasted the team's decision saying in part that he was "deeply troubled" by the Dodgers decision. It appears the NBA home court advantage is fading these days. The biggest issue has become three-point shooting. Just look at yesterday's home loss by the Celtics. This past week NBC Sports California fired long time A's TV Voice Glen Kuiper for using the "n"' word when talking about the Negro Leagues Museum. On today's episode I discuss what happened back on May 5th when Kuiper was talking on air about visiting the museum earlier in the day. I go over comments made by Bok Kendrick, President of the museum and former long time A's great Dave Stewart. I also call out NBC Sports California for their damaging statement about Kuiper. Trust me, I know what that's like. NBCSCA did the same thing to me back in June, 2020. That company is a disgrace and I talk about their despicable actions regarding Kuiper's firing. On today's episode I discuss the state of the NBA game. Yes, ratings have been very good thus far in the postseason, but do you really enjoy watching the game now compared to past eras? The NBA game has pretty much come down to three-point shooting. Make more three's and you win. Shoot a higher percentage from three and you win most nights. Fastbreaks now usually result in a corner three instead of an automatic two. The game needs some changes. As Jerry Reynolds told me years ago, get rid of the corner three. On Monday West Virginia men's basketball coach Bob Huggins went on a Cincinnati talk show and used a homophobic slur not once, but twice. Huggins was talking about the Cincinnati-Xavier rivalry and said "What it was, was all those f-gs, those Catholic f-gs, I think." West Virginia has issued a statement and said they are reviewing the situation. What's there to review? This isn't a Ben Mintz, or Glen Kuiper situation, both of who uttered the n-word in the past week. It was obvious the intent of Mintz, formerly of Barstool and Kuiper, the TV voice of the A's was not one of hatred. In the case of Huggins, how could anyone defend his comments? I begin by reading a column from Phil Mushnick of the NY Post who writes about the absurdity of transgender women competing against women in sports. Phil writes about how common sense doesn't exist anymore. I then discuss the stories of Ben Mintz and Glen Kuiper. Mintz was fired by Barstool last week after speaking the n word while reading lyrics from a rap song. On Friday A's TV Voice, Glen Kuiper was discussing his visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum earlier in the day and said the n-word instead of Negro. Kuiper has been suspended and his future employment status is unknown. Both NBA Sports California and the Oakland A's threw Kuiper under the bus with their gutless statements. Today's episode was inspired by Sean Salisbury. Sean was on one of my recent shows and described his experience of rescuing three dogs who were tied up in a garage and left to die. Joining me on today's show is Amanda Connors from Fosters and Paws and Dr Jay Griffiths of Gold Country Veterinary Hospital in Auburn. Both Amanda and Jay discuss some of the heart wrenching things they have encountered from animal abuse along with aggressive and abusive pet ownership. I start off the episode by playing Sean's comment's regarding rescuing the dogs and then Amanda and Jay provide their expertise on several issues regarding this topic.
