On today's episode I discuss what happened after the LSU-Iowa Women's National Championship game. Iowa's standout player Caitlin Clark made a "John Cena hand gesture" earlier in the tournament, but when LSU's Angel Reese did it after the game, she was criticized by many. Clark is White and Reese is Black, thus the attacks of racism began. The problem is, if we are being objective, the two acts of taunting were not similar and yet that is being glossed over by the national media members who are declaring racism. I discuss the commentary of Shannon Sharp of FS1 and Stephen A. Smith of ESPN. Both commentators said the incidents were exactly the same. Again, I don't know how any person can make that claim. The bottom line is race is once again at the forefront of an incident due to different opinions. It is a disturbing trend, and we should all think twice about why that is. The Women's National Championship game between Iowa and LSU was the most watched women's game in history with 9.9 million viewers. It is a shame thought that almost all of the conversation is centered around Iowa's Caitlin Clark and LSU's Angel Reese. The Sacramento Kings are on their way to the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2006. On today's episode I reflect back to 1996, the first ever game playoff game at Arco Arena. I share stories from that era and talk about how much easier life was without social media. I also reflect back on game 3 vs the Sonics in '96 and forecast what it will be like when the Kings play the first ever playoff game at Golden One Center. Here's what I do know, in '96 nobody had cell phones in their hands. In two weeks 18,000 people will have their cell phones out instead of clapping. I don't know about you, but I miss how much easier life was back in 1996. Bottom line, 2023 is a great one for Kings fans and no fan base in America deserves this more than Kings fans! On today's episode I play part of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO regarding sports. Bill makes some spot-on comments regarding what matters in sports and also talks about race and sports. I share some of my experiences from being in locker rooms and travelling with a professional team spanning 5 decades. My question is why can't society mirror sports locker rooms? The big reason is too many people are afraid to step out of their circle, their comfort zone, thus they stay stuck in the mud! In sports you are forced to be a team, to be around others with different backgrounds etc. The end result is enhanced education and an understanding of different cultures. On today's episode I discuss the NHL's Pride Night initiative and how it has backfired on the league. Several of the players from around the league have refused wearing "special" warm up jerseys to celebrate Pride Night. Many of the players have cited religious beliefs for refusing to participate. The Chicago Blackhawks decided to forgo the warmup jerseys citing Russian law that could make life very difficult for their three Russian players. I have said this for years....when pro sports leagues start moving into the political and social arena, this is exactly what happens. Another night of NBA Basketball and another night of complaining about the refs. In Dallas, Mavs owner Mark Cuban filed a protest after the Mavs lost to the warriors by two points. Cuban feels the refs made a mistake in the 3rd quarter that led to an easy basket by the Warriors. In LA, Suns coach Monty Williams went on a post-game tirade about the refs after his team lost to the Lakers. Paul George of the Clippers went down with a knee injury and as of this recording we still don't know the severity, but it did not look encouraging. The Kings beat the Suns Saturday night for their 40th win of the season. If you watched the game, you saw one of the league's biggest whiners in Devin Booker. The guy never stops. On today's episode I talk about the criticism directed at ESPN's Kendrick Perkins for his comments regarding Nikola Jokic. Perkins insinuated that Jokic has won MVP's because he is white. This past week JJ Redick called out ESPN and Perkins for his "absurd" comments. Redick is an employee of ESPN, so it was noteworthy that he called out ESPN's First Take program and colleague Perkins. Fred VanVleet was fined 30k by the NBA yesterday after his critical comments about the officiating Wednesday night in the Raptors loss to the Clippers. VanVleet called out Ben Taylor and said it is an ongoing thing with this particular ref.
