As good as the Kings have been this season it is puzzling to think they are a better road team than home team. Last night in arguably the biggest game in the history of Golden One Center the Kings lost to the T-Wolves 119-115. On today's episode I play part of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO regarding sports. Bill makes some spot-on comments regarding what matters in sports and also talks about race and sports. I share some of my experiences from being in locker rooms and travelling with a professional team spanning 5 decades. My question is why can't society mirror sports locker rooms? The big reason is too many people are afraid to step out of their circle, their comfort zone, thus they stay stuck in the mud! In sports you are forced to be a team, to be around others with different backgrounds etc. The end result is enhanced education and an understanding of different cultures. On today's episode I discuss the NHL's Pride Night initiative and how it has backfired on the league. Several of the players from around the league have refused wearing "special" warm up jerseys to celebrate Pride Night. Many of the players have cited religious beliefs for refusing to participate. The Chicago Blackhawks decided to forgo the warmup jerseys citing Russian law that could make life very difficult for their three Russian players. I have said this for years....when pro sports leagues start moving into the political and social arena, this is exactly what happens. Another night of NBA Basketball and another night of complaining about the refs. In Dallas, Mavs owner Mark Cuban filed a protest after the Mavs lost to the warriors by two points. Cuban feels the refs made a mistake in the 3rd quarter that led to an easy basket by the Warriors. In LA, Suns coach Monty Williams went on a post-game tirade about the refs after his team lost to the Lakers. Paul George of the Clippers went down with a knee injury and as of this recording we still don't know the severity, but it did not look encouraging. On today's episode I reflect back on 2006, the last time the Sacramento Kings had a winning season. I talk about some odds and ends from 2006 and go over the roster from that season. The Kings won 44 games and were the 8th seed, losing to the Spurs in 6 games in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Fast forward to 2023 and this year's Kings team. What a relief! The Kings are assured of having their first winning season since 2006. They are on the way to the post season for the first time in 16 years, but I guess that isn't good enough for NBC and Kings TV. The Kings beat the Suns Saturday night for their 40th win of the season. If you watched the game, you saw one of the league's biggest whiners in Devin Booker. The guy never stops. Same with the Mavs Luka Doncic. Can we please go a minute without you guys complaining about a call? On today's episode I talk about the criticism directed at ESPN's Kendrick Perkins for his comments regarding Nikola Jokic. Perkins insinuated that Jokic has won MVP's because he is white. This past week JJ Redick called out ESPN and Perkins for his "absurd" comments. Redick is an employee of ESPN, so it was noteworthy that he called out ESPN's First Take program and colleague Perkins. Fred VanVleet was fined 30k by the NBA yesterday after his critical comments about the officiating Wednesday night in the Raptors loss to the Clippers. VanVleet called out Ben Taylor and said it is an ongoing thing with this particular ref. The Ravens and QB Lamar Jackosn are involved in a game of high stakes poker. Yesterday the Ravens gave Jackson the nonexclusive tag which means the former league MVP can engage in contract talks with other teams. If a team can strike a deal an offer sheet means the Ravens would have 5 days to match, or receive two first round picks as compensation. On today's episode I talk about the past few weeks being a bad one for the NBA. Load management continues to be an issue despite NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's denial. Now Memphis star Ja Morant is away from the team as he deals with repeated, alarming incidents. Morant was suspended for two games, but that number could be much, much higher. In the past 24 hours, it has been reported that Morant took his firearm on the team's charter aircraft. If true Morant is looking at a 50 game suspension! It will be interesting to see how the Grizzlies and the NBA deal with all of this! I also talk about the alarming race card used by those in the media and former players like Paul Pierce.
