EP 207: The Rookie Season of Recovery ~ How to Build Upon Setbacks & Step Up to the Plate with Confidence⚾
In this heartfelt episode, we explore the parallel between rookie seasons in baseball & the early stages of eating disorder recovery. Through a personal story about my 11-year-old son, I share with you powerful lessons about perseverance, finding purpose in setbacks, and recognizing God's work in challenging seasons. Whether you're just beginning your recovery journey or facing a difficult setback, this episode offers both spiritual encouragement and practical tools to help you step up to the plate with renewed confidence. Here are a few key points: Why setbacks in recovery are like strikeouts in baseball—necessary parts of the growth process The story of a young baseball player learning to value progress over perfection How God uses "rookie seasons" to develop dependence, resilience, and character The difference between the scoreboard mentality and the growth mentality in recovery Biblical perspectives on finding purpose in struggle and disappointment Transform your setbacks into stepping-stones by creating a Recovery Learning Log. After experiencing a slip in your recovery journey, ask yourself these three questions: What was happening right before I felt triggered? (Identify patterns) What need was I trying to meet through this behavior? (Uncover underlying issues) What's one small adjustment I can make next time I face this situation? (Build practical wisdom) This simple practice shifts your relationship with struggle from shame to growth and invites God into your development process. EP 206:✨Unlocking the Freedom Formula Experience™ ~ Your Personal Invite to Find Lasting Freedom From Disordered Eating✨
Your Path to Freedom: The Freedom Formula Experience with Lindsey Nichol THE PROBLEM: Trapped in the Cycle You wake up every morning with that familiar heaviness. Another day of obsessing over food, second-guessing every bite, and feeling like you're never doing recovery "right." Despite your best efforts, you feel stuck in an endless cycle: You're exhausted from constantly thinking about food and your body You feel like you should be "further along" in recovery by now Traditional treatment gave you tools, but you struggle to apply them in real life You're tired of having the same conversations with yourself day after day You're living in "the gap" – always focusing on how far you still have to go, never acknowledging how far you've come You feel isolated because nobody seems to truly understand what you're going through You wonder if complete freedom is even possible for someone like you The worst part? You're doing this alone. You're piecing together advice from books, podcasts, and social media, but without consistent guidance from someone who's actually walked this path, you keep falling back into the same patterns. THE TRANSFORMATION: What You'll Gain Working with me isn't just about stopping behaviors – it's about reclaiming your entire life. Here's what my clients experience: Freedom from the constant mental chatter about food, calories, and body size The ability to eat intuitively without rules, restriction, or compensatory behaviors A compassionate relationship with yourself, replacing the harsh inner critic Skills to manage difficult emotions without using food The confidence to show up authentically in relationships instead of hiding behind perfectionism A renewed sense of purpose beyond your body and appearance The ability to live in "the gain" – celebrating progress and practicing self-compassion The joy of redirecting all that mental energy toward the things that truly matter to you Imagine waking up and not having food be your first thought. EP 205: Are You Living in the Gap or the Gain? + The #1 Regret I Have From My Personal Healing Journey With Anorexia & Exercise Bulimia
In this deeply personal episode, I share my biggest regret from my eating disorder recovery journey – how focusing too intensely on "being recovered" almost caused me to miss the beautiful growth happening along the way. Drawing on Dr. Benjamin Hardy's powerful concept of "living in the gap vs. living in the gain," I explore how this mindset shift can transform the recovery experience and help you find meaning even in your most challenging moments. xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> www.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> [email protected] ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? EP 203.5: How To Heal Your Gut After Years of Food Restriction ~ 7 Practical Ways to Reduce Bloating & Digestive Pain
Hey girlfriend, How dis your week beginning? I'd love to hear all the stories of how your spring is starting off! I spent the weekend recording the pod for you, practicing yoga with my hubby & having a movie night snuggled up next to the boys. But none of that is what I wanted to chat with you about today. Today, I wanted to dive right in to GUT HEALTH! So here it goes.... How is your gut? Weird question to ask right? Well, maybe not so strange after all. If you experience high levels of anxiety or stress, don't be surprised if that comes alongside gas, bloat or other gut health issues. Another fun fact... Did you know your gut is your 2nd brain? Yep! In Episode 203.5, I talk all things gastro, bloat, constipation & how you can tame those tummy troubles while navigating freedom from food controlling your life! The truth in recovery from disordered eating is that you most likely will experience stomach discomfort, but the good news is that it won't last forever. EP 202: Get Back to the Basics - The 8 Foundational Human Needs to Reclaim Your Motivation & Move Past a Recovery Slump
Hey there sis! Whew it has been a start to my week. Both of my boys are sick with something awful (negative flu and strep tests) but it has got this mama worn slam out! And it got me thinking what the doctor said..."it's time to get back to the basics mom." Huh? You want my kids to "just rest" and get better? No magic antibiotic that I can refill on our way home today sir? Sadly....Nope. ARGHHHH!!!! ~ This fun story (yet not really) gave me the inspiration to share on the podcast today about how important it is to go back to the basics when you may be in a recovery slump. Recovery isn't about becoming a different person sis, it's about reclaiming the person you were always meant to be. And gosh can I not wait for you to do that! But with if you decided to stop measuring success based on your accomplishments, appearance, or other peoples opinions of you? ~ Food is a basic right friend. You don't have to earn it. EP 200.5: The Identity Crisis ~ 17+ Questions to Ask Yourself to Help You Discover Your TRUE SELF Beyond Food Control & Exercise Obsession **MUST Listen FAV!**
How is your week going sis? I am in baseball mom mode over here. Yep, this past weekend we geared up for another season of travel baseball! I never thought I'd actually feel proud wearing bright yellow, as it's not really "my color"....(lol, Go Pirates!), but it sure was fun over the weekend spectating, screaming & living life in the present moment. When I sat down to bring content to you on the podcast today, I thought I MUST share all about identity. I recorded this one during last baseball season and it fits perfectly with my spring ball vibes! I was reminded of all the years that being outside of my normal weekend routine would have completely thrown me for a loop. I remembered how "tied" & "chained" I felt. I remembered how I wasn't able to enjoy the moments because I was consumed with thoughts about food. Thoughts like, "when can I eat next? what am I allowed to have? haven't I already had too much today? I guess I'll save my calories for later", & God forbid I went to a sporting event....I would have ordered a diet coke, secretly wanting a bite of anything other than my chewing gum, yet never allowing myself one. I probably would have spent majority of the game wondering how other people around me could even take one bite of their hotdog. I lived paralyzed by shame, guilt and fear. Maybe you can relate. What I came to find out, was that the only way I was ever going to escape my mind, was to realize it had been hijacked. I had to realize that I was not my anorexia. I didn't cause it. I couldn't control it. I couldn't cure it. BUT....I could no longer contribute to the patterns and the behaviors that were keeping me chained to it. In order to do just that.....I had to separate myself FROM my ED. In Episode 200.5, I share with you the importance of separating yourself from your eating disorder. I ask you questions for you to challenge yourself this week. Yep, you won't want to miss this one girl! Bring a notebook & a pen & listen in! And remember...YOU my sweet friend may have a disordered relationship with food, but you are NOT disordered. You are not broken! You are healing. You are a warrior. xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> www.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> [email protected] ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? EP 200:🎉What Is Your “Perfect Weight”? How Do You Find It? (+ Learn 5 Ways to Weigh Yourself Without the Scale)
Hey there sister, friend~ I'm so glad to drop a new message of truth into your inbox today! I cannot wait for you to listen to Episode 200 on the Her Best Self Podcast. I don't even know how we got here. I feel like I blinked and we're at episode 200. This has to be the best project I've ever done outside of completely healing myself from a toxic relationship with food and my body for years. In Episode 200, I talk about your perfect weight, what it is, how you can find it, and ultimately how you can redefine what you're looking at in terms of measurement. We live in a culture obsessed with numbers on the scale. Magazine covers wellness influencers on Instagram and even healthcare providers push this idea that there's a magical number that will solve all of your problems. But what if I told you friend that your perfect weight has nothing to do with a number? Are you mind blown yet? Well, if you've been listening to the show for some time, you already have been preached at by me regarding this topic, so stick with me long enough and I will have you believing that you deserve a free life. But I wanted to start today's show with a question. How much mental and emotional energy do you spend thinking about your weight? Maybe it's a significant amount. I wanna ask a follow up question: Is it worth it? Is all that energy actually improving your life? Is it making you better? Is it making you worth more? Is it making you happier? Today, I wanted to offer a different perspective because I just felt this calling on my heart, not only to make Episode 200 freaking epic, because hey, that's why you're here is to listen to some good stuff that's actually gonna change your life. But to have you shifting your mindset a bit. Sis, what if your perfect weight isn't a number at all, but rather a state of being? EP 197.5: Learn to Love Yourself and Recognize Your Own Strength as You Heal From Disordered Food Thoughts & ED Behaviors
Hey sis, I am going to go on a riff with you for a little because I just showed up to the mic today and I'm feeling very creative. I'm in one of my centers of energy where I feel like I could just go on one and not even have a podcast script, which I typically do try to leverage some bullet points that I want to share with you for every single episode to make it super tactical. But today I really want to talk about love and self love because it's love month. Today is Valentine's day here! We are doing all the Valentine's exchanges and showing the people that we love in our life even more love today. I try to tell my kids we should show love every day, but today is just an extra little bonus of love (and chocolate!). So I encourage you to get some Dove and spend quality time to yourself. But even if you aren't at the Dove chocolates just yet....honoring you and how far you have come in your journey of navigating food freedom is just as important. Your best today, sis, can be your best. Your body is your vessel and your home, and it's important that even if we're not feeling totally in love with our body that we can appreciate and view it as a palace of self love and respect. If you feel that you're confused on where to turn next and life feels so heavy and you feel like you're doing the same thing expecting different results, then I want you to turn to you. I want you to turn inward and I also want you to turn to God upward and whatever that looks like for you versus outward. Which is what we do, we tend to turn to the world when we're not feeling enough. Today, I just want you to think about what self love looks like for you personally? I wanted to dive into this topic on the podcast because it is incredibly challenging in recovery. First of all, learning to love yourself and recognizing your own strengths. And if you're like many people in recovery, including my own self, my past journey, you might find it super easy to support others, but then you don't show that same kind of love or that same kind of kindness to you. In Episode 197.5, I wanted to explore some practical ways that you can nurture that self love and how you can spread love and awareness as you acknowledge your progress. EP 196: 4 Strategies to Implement This Week to Create Calmness & Stillness in Your Life + How to Be Okay With Being a Beginner (Again) in Recovery
Hey girl! I am super excited to talk to you today about something deeply personal, yet universally relevant in my life right now. And that is the art of being a beginner, and being a beginner again. This is a concept that not only has kind of resurrected itself as I continue to coach more and more women in healing their relationships with food and their body, but specifically in the context of facing a challenge like recovery when you're in the messy middle of it. This type of challenge requires you to build again, to rebuild your life, to create this best version of you and to become a beginner again, because everything that your mind has taught you over time and those lies that you've been believing are truths are really just lies. You are not going to be unlovable if you gain weight. You are not going to be rejected if you nourish your body. You are not going to live trapped in your thoughts forever....all of those are just LIES. And the reality is, is the more awareness that you get around this, the more present you are and the more still you are, the more you realize, rationally, you're going to have to relearn some things. You're going to have to be okay being a beginner. That can take some time and some hard work and quite honestly it can be challenging when you love being a high performer or a master in all areas of your life. So today's podcast episode is all around the art of beginning again. I hope you will tune into to this one girl and share it with someone you love! I'm going to challenge you with some stillness this week and to give you four different strategies that you can try on to apply to your life, so that you can create a more peaceful life full of all the very BEST things. "Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently". ~Henry Ford "You must learn to stop thinking in beginnings and endings, successes and failures, and begin to treat everything in your life as a learning experience instead of a proving one." ~Guy Finley xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> www.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> [email protected] ______ Join the free FB community -> www.facebook.com/groups/herbestselfsociety/ ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? EP 192: From Stronghold to Strength ~ Ask Yourself These 3-4 Impactful Questions to Unleash Your Leadership This Year & Step Into Your Very Best Self
Hey sis! It is January and we are rolling in deep and today we're going to be talking about something that has been so heavy on my heart lately. And that is how your relationship with food isn't just affecting your health, but how it could be holding back your leadership potential and the significant impact that you're meant to have in this world. Marshawn Daniels says it best in her devotional..."As women, we've had an up and down roller coaster like relationship with the word leadership. On one hand, we're supposed to be submissive and supportive. We learned so much about surrender, but less about stepping up. We want to expand the kingdom, but we don't want to step out of place. We want to be a good wife. We want to be a pleasing daughter. We want to be a wonderful mother, but we're afraid to admit that our hearts are craving something more. And therein lies a holy tension. See, God desires that we absorb the wisdom of others, but also that we never place the perspective of other people and this world above His voice and His plan." And the truth is that leadership is your birthright. It's in your DNA. I cannot agree with that more. I have felt God nudging me and calling me to lead even more this year. And you know what breaks my heart? Seeing brilliant, capable women sitting on the sidelines of their own lives because their eating disorder has convinced them that controlling food and their body is more important than their God given purpose. ~ Today on the podcast, we're going to talk about your unhealthy relationship with food is actually a stronghold, keeping you from becoming the best version of you and from becoming a leader that you're meant to be. You see, I personally believe that my word for the year, "leadership" is not just meant for me, but it's meant for you too, because leadership is so tightly ingrained in our identity. And when you can't believe in your own identity because you have been living under the cloud of false truths in your mind, then you forget that you are a mighty warrior. You forget that you have influence. You forget that God has been grooming you since you were born for a purpose. ~ I want to ask you something: when is the last time you thought about the influence that you're meant to have here, not just in your family or in your job, but on this planet in this world? 2025 is all about leadership for me. I'm realizing more and more how many of us are letting so many other things in our life, things of quote, "the world", rob us of our leadership potential, rob us of our impact. These beliefs that we're not good enough, or we're not qualified, or we haven't yet arrived, or we aren't there yet. All these things, they're literally sucking the hope out of your journey forward. And without HOPE, I mean, what is it that we truly have anyways? Am I right? I want you to stop letting your ED, letting this relationship with food, steal the rest of your life and your leadership potential. EP 191: Ditch the 'New Year, New Body' BS ~ How To Protect Your Recovery & Set Healthy Goals in Diet Culture Season🎆
Happy January sister friend! So the boys and I rang in the new year in a new place this year. Hopefully you've had a great start to your new year! We surely had an awesome experience. We took the boys tubing at a ski resort in the Blue Ridge mountains, and it was fantabulous. Yes, I'm still a beach girl. And yes, I dread being cold, but between the fireplace and the glorious snow, it was beautiful. The mountains were breathtaking and it was just what my soul desperately needed...but back to reality and the podcast with you. And I am so happy to be back here recording a new show today! I can't wait for you to tune in to Episode 191 :) As we made memories over the break, I got to thinking about 2025 and goals and just how much influence culture has on our personal goals and expectations. Not that that's a bad thing, but just hear me out here. So yes, January is the start of a new year, but society makes us feel disorganized, society makes us feel lazy and unproductive if we don't set massive, crazy, audacious goals as soon as the clock strikes midnight. And I just got to thinking, I'm not. Not this year! And I'm not suggesting not to have goals for this year. I'm not saying that I don't have personal goals and I don't have business goals. But for me, the way I want to view my 2025 journey is going to be different. Instead of aiming at these massive goals, I plan on aiming at the goals that God places on my heart. But with INTENTION and less pressure of my timeline. I want to stop looking around and comparing myself to what everyone else is doing or what everyone else is thinking. And so I wanted to share today's episode to help you grant yourself the same grace and permission, because maybe like me, you don't have it all together either and maybe you haven't decided to read 20 books in 2025. And maybe you don't even know what a resolution could be for you. So here is what I want you to think about. Instead of trying on another resolution that may or may not last until February, I want you to think about how you want to do this year differently and how you want to show up with grace and permission as you lean into the best version of yourself. Tune in to this one friend! EP 190: Did You Know 92% of Eating Disorder Thoughts Are Hidden Emotions? Here Is the Scientific Truth Behind ‘Feeling Fat’ + 2 Tools to Help You Silence the Voice
I hope you are starting the New Year off right sis! And my wish for you is that you invest in yourself and your recovery in 2025. But just in case you are doubting the new year already, I wanted to give you some TRUTH BOMBS and 2 tools that you can use when you catch yourself "feeling fat" as the world around you continues to push the billion dollar diet culture fads this January. ~ Did you know that 92 percent of the time when you're feeling fat, you're actually experiencing a completely different emotion? In Episode 190 of the podcast we're diving into the science behind this powerful truth + I can't wait to share some eye opening statistics with you because research is so clear in this area. Research shows 95 percent of women engage in what we call "fat talk". That's right. Almost every single woman spends nearly 50 minutes every single day feeling fat. That is almost an hour of every day lost to these thoughts. Now you mix in an eating disorder and years of unhealthy behaviors and bam....most of the day spent with that battle in your mind... But here's the game changing truth. 80 percent of these moments have absolutely nothing to do with your body. Nothing. I want you to let that sink in for a minute. I remember in my own journey, there were so many days when I would wake up just feeling fat, like my body physically felt bigger, but the reality was that nothing had changed in my body overnight. Something had triggered that feeling of fatness. Maybe it was an upcoming work event for me, or when I look back in my journal, it was tension with my mom or a friend or just plain overwhelm of feeling out of control in various different areas of my life because I was struggling with this control and the grip of it in the eating disorder. But I didn't have the tools at that point to really understand what was going on inside of me. And the truth is that when I began to accept that in order to be my most authentic, my most healthiest best self, I would need to accept my body changing and for me, that meant weight restoring. It was as if the fat feelings came in like a flood overnight... but nothing had changed except my brain knew that my goal was no longer to lose weight because that wasn't going to lead me anywhere good. Research from the International Journal of Eating Disorders shows that body dissatisfaction significantly increases during times of emotional distress. Listen in to the show today, where I breakdown what's actually happening when you're having those feeling fat moments. Because 92 percent of the time, that's nine out of 10 times when you're feeling that fat feeling, you're actually experiencing something completely different. EP 188.5: Why Recovery Setbacks Don't Define Your Journey + How to Handle Slip-Ups Without Losing Hope
It's that time of the week girl! I'm jumping in to your inbox today to check-in on you my sweet friend. How was your holiday? How are you? Okay, I'll ask it again...how are you really?! ~ It's okay if you answered not so great. I promise not to judge! When you struggle with disordered eating, slip-ups & set-backs happen....well as sucky as they are (making you want to throw in the towel), it's time to start expecting them. Prepare for the slip-ups! Especially during overwhelming times like the holidays. ~ Here is a golden nugget for you today girl... Change is hard. Growth is hard. Slip-ups & set-backs are just proof you are doing hard things. NOT proof that you are failing at the things. In my recovery journey I wanted so badly to DO recovery "right". On days where I fell back to old patterns & behaviors, I felt like it was just "too hard". I felt like I was just never going to get to freedom. I had moments of feeling that recovery just wasn't in the cards for me. Reality is....THAT way of thinking is a LIE. A false narrative. STOP believing it! That lie is a trap your mind wants you to believe to keep you chained to the disorder. Discouragement + Doubt = Quitting You aren't a quitter! You aren't a giver-upper either! So when slip-ups & set-backs come your way....use them as a SET-UP as you step into the BEST version of yourself. You totes got this! & I got you sister. hugs, lindsey Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> [email protected] ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? EP 188: The Present is Your Present ~ Finding Magic in Recovery this Holiday Season | ED🎄Recovery Guide
Ekkk Happy Christmas Eve!!! I hope your week is starting off great as we all patiently wait for the big guy to come down the chimney! I wanted to drop a brand new pod episode into your inbox for you to listen to while you finish your gift wrapping and last minute "to-do's". In Episode 188, I share THE BEST gift you can give yourself and others this Christmas and how you can find magic in recovery this holiday. ~ So yesterday I was at Santa with my boys and it hit me. While everyone around us was rushing, stressed about perfect pictures and checking their phones, my kids were just Present. It was like time stood still to them. They were living in the pure magic of the moment as they waited in line to see Santa. And it got me thinking about how often we miss these precious moments. My kids are 6 and 10 and I look at it as a very pivotal year because I am hanging on to my 10 year old with the expectation that he's always going to want to stand in that line. And the reality sis, is I know that we're on the last leg of moments like that one. How about your reality? Well when you're struggling with an eating disorder, it literally sucks all the good moments from your life. So many moments are missed because you are caught up in those eating disorder thoughts. So many moments I missed. And so I wanted to bring you this episode today not to be a negative Scrooge. But actually quite the opposite. It's time to take a stand against spending ONE more Christmas at war with your body! No more giving your best gift away for a false sense of control. And that gift, friend? TIME. ~ The boys and I went to a family gathering last night after Santa, one that in past years would have sent me into a tailspin. I mean, yes, it was the kind with all the festive dishes, a charcuterie board, espresso martinis, all the tasty festive treats, enter the cookies, the brownies, the shortbread...there was banana pudding. It was amazing! And while my recovered-self enjoyed every bite of nourishment. I couldn't help but realize just how fast time flies. I questioned myself, "do I live here in all the right now moments? Or am I living back there and how it used to be or fast forward to what hasn't even arrived yet?" I don't know about you, but I want to remember all these moments that I have left, all of them. It's so important to really get real and present with ourselves. And that's what I wanted to do was to question your current state. If you are feeling drained, overwhelmed, and maybe the holidays are just not your thing because of past traumas, or because of the eating disorder or because of lost loved ones. I totally get that, but there is still something so magical about this time of year. Here's the thing. The magic of recovery, just like the magic of Christmas, it happens in the NOW. It happens in the present. And it happens when we choose to be here, even when it's super, super uncomfortable. So my hope for your this holiday is that you LIVE in the PRESENT and make a commitment to your future self to get the help and support you need to combat your eating disorder. EP 187.5: Do You REALLY Want to Recover from Your Eating Disorder? | The Pain of Recovery vs. The Pain of Staying Sick⚖️
Hey there girl! Can you believe we are falalalala-ing all the way into a brand new year in a matter of weeks? I always find myself at the end of a year thinking about the things that I clung to, & the not so good things that clung to me. & I wonder how I can make the next one even better. Sadly, I used to wonder how I was going to exercise away Christmas food choices, avoid weight gain & get back to a rigid routine as soon as the clock struck midnight. So much so, that I became completely chained to my eating disorder. ~ If your lifestyle requires you to track, monitor & count every food morsel, carb, calorie, or pound on the scale.....then ask yourself -> are you really living? I know one thing is for sure...freedom from disordered eating is REAL, because I myself have escaped her chains. I myself broke the patterns of unhealthy diets, restrictions & behaviors that year after year kept me trapped in my own mind & body. And, YOU can too! In Episode 187.5, I share all about ambivalence in recovery & I talk about the path of pain. Tune in to the show today sis! It's a goodie! EP 186: Recovery Portions Made Simple! Break Free From Food Anxiety & Portion Distortion Using the “Dollop Method”
Hey girl, welcome back to the Her Best Self world! On the podcast today, I'm talking about how you can nourish your body when maybe you have portion anxiety or a fear around weight gain and so you simply don't know what portions to have. Do you find yourself asking these questions? "Am I eating too much? Am I eating too little?" If so, Episode 186 is New and just for you! I hope that your week is starting off strong, sis, just as you keep getting stronger in the truth and more grounded in the reality that you are no longer hanging out with this wannabe friend, the eating disorder. She isn't coming with you in 2025~ Which brings me to reflect on 2024 and I just wanted to share my gratitude with you for reading my emails, listening to the show...all the things. I am honored to hold your hand as you recover! Did you know, when you become a client with HBS Co., I have this board that I put your name on and that's for all clients, whether you're a current client, whether you're a past client, whether you're one of my coaching clients to become a coach, to help other clients, like It doesn't matter. Your name goes on the board. And typically when I'm recording the show, I look at that board. I have it right next to me because it is a constant reminder of the lives. The change that happens when you step forward, raise your hand and make a commitment to do something differently....with support! Sis, if you've sought out help. And whether that's me as your coach or another coach that you are also listening to, I want you to know I'm proud of you. It takes a courageous person to step out in faith, scared to death and realize they don't want this for their life anymore. And so I see you, I continue to look up at that board and just relish and the names that are there. I mean, it is wild. I love it because it is a constant grounding reminder of the work that happens when you invest in yourself and step into truth. Here is truth for your Tuesday: Freedom is possible for you. And this fear of what if I can't stop eating? Well, I want to pull up a seat at your table friend and love on you because I lived in this exact terrifying reality. Here comes the tough Lindsey love: Nothing changes, sis, if nothing changes. Everything that you are doing in your life right now is a result of actions and beliefs that you have put on up to this point. In order to see a change, you're going to have to change and you're going to have to do something differently. You're going to have to take action. And in my own personal recovery, I remember being in this exact spot and not really knowing how or what to do next. I knew I couldn't trust myself, but not really knowing who to trust. Hey girl, it's a great today to have a great day! Today I have a special treat for you. Hey sis, oh my gosh, have we made it? Have we arrived? Is everyone in one piece? I feel like the days and weeks up to the holiday can be treacherous. Am I the only one? I just feel like the 'to-do' list never ends and everyone's running around like crazy pants. I'm just over here trying to be Mama Elf without forgetting to move the Elf on the Shelf after putting the boys to bed. LOL Anyways, let's dive in to today's show. I'm talking all about that huge mistake that you're most likely making right now as you battle this unhealthy relationship with food and your body. And I'm going to give you two strategies that you can implement today that are going to help you overcome and actually get to freedom. If you're always looking for 'the thing' that is going to set you free and you just don't understand why this feels so hard for you...Then today's podcast episode is FOR YOU SIS! One of the biggest mistakes that I see in coaching countless of women in recovery, (including my own self and my own recovery journey) is you get to a point of functioning, but you're struggling so much and you're like, "is this it?" "Is this as good as it gets?" ALERT ->This ISN'T IT for you sweet friend! And today I wanted to shout into your ear that your dream is achievable. There is more for you. You haven't arrived yet, and that's okay. I want you to know you're okay, you're here, I see you, you're right where you need to be. And if you're always looking for the next thing, then you're most likely doing it wrong from the start. (And I say that with so much love because I did it wrong for so very long.) The struggle is certainly real, but in order to build a battle plan for your recovery, you need to let go of it needing to look a certain way. I'm going to say that one again for you. To build a battle plan for the blueprint of your recovery, you need to let go of it looking a certain way. ~ Tune in to this one girl & share it with a friend! EP 184: Hope for the Exhausted Perfectionist -> Your Brain Can Change! Here Is the Science Behind Your Struggle
Hey sis, How has your week gone? I don't know about you but I am exhausted...yet not the same level of exhaustion that I use to operate at when I was stuck in the destructive cycle of an eating disorder. But I share this with you because maybe you have been trying to do everything "perfect" this season, yet you feel like you've failed. Sis, the cost of perfection left me perfectly exhausted. It left me stuck in the messy middle of anorexia. ~ Society will tell you to be thin, but not too thin. Be confident, but not overly confident. And be successful, but not too successful. If you're with me and you experience the pressure to be perfect, this is a perfect paradox and it is time to dump the impossible standards that are destroying your mental health, linked directly to eating disorder behaviors, and it's time to stand in your truth. In Episode 184, I share scientific research about the cost of perfection and what you can do about it as you step into the best you in the upcoming year. I'm so excited for your listen of today's show. EP 183.5: Stop Comparing, Start Living! 6 Keys to Recovery Freedom That Will Have You Scrolling Instagram Less, While Loving You More
Happy Tuesday sis! I hope you are enjoying the pre-Thanksgiving vibes & hopefully you are getting ready for turkey day! I am all over the place as I LOVE this time of year, but to be fair your girl needs more TIME in the next few days....so I'm playing one of the most favorite episodes on the Her Best Self Pod today. My hope is this will hit you right where you need it. I just know it will change the way you experience your holiday this week. ~ Have you ever caught yourself scrolling through social media, feeling like everyone else has it all figured out? Like somehow you're the only one still struggling? Today, we're breaking down the science of comparison, perfectionism, and most importantly – the six research-backed strategies that can help you break free. The first step to self-acceptance is to STOP unhealthy comparison. As humans we are going to compare ourselves to others. It is in our nature to watch others. This is how we learn. But, if we look long enough, we will find someone who has done more, who has more & who seems to have it all together. In the eating disorder world, comparing your journey to someone else's does NOTHING but rob your TRUTH. In today's show, I discuss 6 strategies to help you stop the comparisonitis, so that you can start showing up & comparing you vs. you. You have so much to give to the world. When you are captivated with purpose, you won't be stuck in comparison. Do you need a break-up with social media, so you can experience a breakthrough in your recovery?! If so, this could be your saving grace. I am so happy to have you here! Here is your reminder today if you struggle with comparing yourself to others: "You are God's Masterpiece, & He has created you a new in Jesus, which He prepared in advance for you to do!" ~Ephesians 2:10 Friend, stop keeping yourself from your best self. EP 183: When Family Doesn't Understand ~ Setting Boundaries in Eating Disorder Recovery 💞 (+ TRUTH just for YOU!)
Happy Friday sister! We have arrived. Actually, I secretly wish I could sleep the day away because my bed is cozy & even though I do enjoy this time of year there is just SO MUCH To DO! Speaking of which, are you ready for turkey day? I will be showing up at my in-laws pies in hand & ready to enjoy all the holiday brings. However, this wasn't always the case for me. For a decade I spent my life dreading this holiday. I would legit fantasize about how I could get out of being around "all that food" & even around my family, who I thought was watching me with each bite. Are you feeling this way? You don't have to sit in this mess & let it become who you are and that be it. This is just a speed bump. This is just a blimp in your journey here. If you are a loved one of someone who struggles with an eating disorder and you are unsure of what to do next, you don't have to have it all figured out, but it is important to get as educated as possible so you can help support your person. In Episode 183, I'm going to be talking about boundaries & what to do when your family just doesn't understand. ~ Boundaries are a better you, & in order to be the BEST version of you, you have to put some boundaries in place. It's so important. If you struggle with disordered eating, it's vital that you understand in some form or fashion that it affects and hurts every person close to you in your life. Yes, this is an isolating disease, but it echoes to everyone around you. It's like a domino. It just dominoes over & you can be in your own feels & you can think that it's not harming people that are in your circle. But if you don't have energy, you're snapping at your kids. If you don't have energy, you're nasty to your husband. If you aren't nourishing yourself or eating properly, you're not honoring yourself and therefore you're not giving your best version to everyone else. My goal today is that this helps you as you head into the holidays & that it encourages you to keep walking along your path to freedom. EP 182: End the Year Strong & Plan for Your 2025 Recovery Revolution! Use This Strategy to Let Go & Level Up
Hey there my sweet friend~ As we enter into the last 43 days of the year, how do you want to finish? Like really...how do you want to end 2024? Sit on this one sis! You're going to finish strong. You are going to hit 2025 where it didn't even know it was being hit. But in order to do so -> What needs to go in your life? What needs to change and what needs to get the wave as you say goodbye to it? In Episode 182, I provide some strategies for you to get you thinking and planning in advance for your BEST year yet. ~ To enter in to next year without bringing all the junk that you want to leave behind requires a present reality check. Which means you have to acknowledge the journey so far, and celebrate all the wins and all the progress that you've made this year, even if to you that feels like not a lot. So many times I'm talking to clients and ladies and they're telling me that they feel like they're behind or they should be further along or they haven't yet arrived and they're mucking through this journey day after day after day in the mundane and feeling like they're not moving forward. It's so important that you celebrate those small wins. Maybe you're not where you want to be YET. But I want you to honor the struggle and the challenges. EP 181: Break Free Sis! Here’s Your Personal Invitation & First Step to Becoming Your Best Recovered Self
Have you ever wondered what life would be like on the other side of your eating disorder? Not just surviving, sis, but truly living? Stay with me because today's podcast episode might just change everything for you. I want to welcome you back, friend, because Episode 181 is different & it's incredibly special to my heart. I'm speaking directly to you if you feel trapped by your eating disorder, especially if the thought of recovery feels overwhelming. I see you friend, I hear you, & most importantly, I have something transformative to share with you. Let me paint a picture that might feel familiar... You wake up thinking about food, your days are consumed by rules & restrictions. You're exhausted from fighting your body & just trying to survive this thing called life. & deep down, you dream of this freedom, but the thought of getting there...uhm...Do I know this place intimately, because I have lived there. & today I want to share something that could be your first step toward real freedom. Here's what I've discovered after working with hundreds of women in recovery. The reason most people stay stuck isn't lack of desire for freedom. It's not even lack of information. It's something much deeper. It's something that traditional treatment often misses completely. I've learned that it's in the transformation, it's the belief, it's in the not yet readiness that we actually find our place & that we heal. I can't put one word on it, like I can't give it this miraculous transformational word because it's a feeling that is just a feeling, it doesn't exist in terms of a word. When you feel empowered, when your soul feels awakened, & when your life is changed...truly changed because you've conquered your own mind & your own self. There is nothing like that. A feeling of inspiration, a feeling of liberation. & this revelation led me to create something super special for you. So today's mini pod episode is to introduce the masterclass that I'm doing tomorrow, November 13th at 2 p. m. Eastern, & it is not too late for you to join us. Can't wait to see you sis! EP 180: STOP Overthinking & Overanalyzing! Use the 51% Rule to Make Better Decisions As You Step Into Recovery ACTION
Hey sis! I am so excited to drop a brand new episode on the Her Best Self podcast! If you struggle with overthinking and constantly overanalyzing your choices along with your decision making, & you just wonder if you will ever escape the nonsense...then today I want you to listen in to Episode 180. It is so important when you're looking for certainty in life in the moment, you start with how you're making your own personal decisions and that goes for recovery, but also just for every other thing in your current circumstances. You are making a ton of decisions on the daily and you can sit in analysis paralysis if you aren't aware. You can sit in self sabotage & you can sit in perfection. & so if you've questioned, "what do I need to eat next? when can I eat next? what can I have next?" & you're struggling with that in your mind regularly...part of this is just a tactic that the eating disorder is doing to get you confused & caught off guard. But I'm going to help you make better decisions today. Tune in to Episode 180 to learn what the 51% rule is & share it with a friend! xo, lindsey **p.s.: don't forget to sign up for the free masterclass where I teach you how 3 powerful truths to conquer your eating disorder. EP 179: The Power of Your Rejection Story ~ Make Meaning of Past Pain So That You Can Discover Redemption & Freedom From Perfection & Judgement
How is your Tuesday going sis?! I am over here squealing because we are so close to the upcoming masterclass. If you have no idea what I am talking about, just register! It's completely free and you can hang out with me and a bunch of amazing ladies who are going to be joining us as well. Click this link & you are all set! www.herbestself.co/masterclass ~ Okay, let's switch gears! Today on the podcast, we're talking about rejection because your girl has had a life experience of rejection. And if you have been chasing perfectionism. Then you actually have been trying to prevent rejection in your own life. You see perfectionism is rejection prevention. It's the way that our brain and our mind tries to avoid the pain and the emotional trauma of feeling the "not enoughness". And the eating disorder that you may have developed over time, it offers this illusion of protection and it gives you that false comfort. In Episode 179, I want to talk about my rejection story and some of the examples of rejection in my life. I'm going to share a special story with you, with hopes that you will meet me there and hopes that you will find yourself in this place. Because the truth is that if we can look at our rejection story, we can create it into our redemption story. Recovery will be your biggest transformation. You can use the pain over all the years of your rejection to elevate you and to give you power as you move forward and embrace the imperfect mess that you are. I so believe you are enough! You don't need to fear rejection any more! You totes got this! xo, lindsey **p.s.: don't forget to sign up for the free masterclass where I teach you how 3 powerful truths to conquer your eating disorder. Happy Friday! And not just any Friday, but here in the states, it's POST Halloween Friday, which simply means kids are high on sugar & mom's are running on fumes! This one is going to light a fire under you today girl & have you showing up VICTORIOUS as you crush your day and head into the weekend. ~ A victim is a person who is deceived or cheated by their own emotions. A victor is a person who defeats an enemy, opponent & conquers the very struggle set out to destroy them. Are you a victim or a victor? Sis, you are not the victim of your current life & circumstances. You are a product of your choices. & yes, maybe some of those choices weren't the best....but if choices got you here, choices can get you out! In Episode 178.5, I share the power of CHOICE. Your choice! & I discuss 6 choices you can make right now to move you from Victim to Victor. The truth is, you deserve to live life FREE from the chains of disordered eating. You deserve to be present with the people you love & to experience more of the places you enjoy. You see, just because you aren't their yet...is more proof that now is the very best time! Victors see challenges as opportunities -> Victims see challenges as evidence of a hard life. Victors look for hope -> Victims say stuck in fear. EP 177.5: How Recovery Transformed My Life ~ 8 Hidden Gifts I Learned Along My Journey Through and Beyond Anorexia
Gosh the year is just flying, isn't it? Lately, I've been asked by women battling an unhealthy relationship with food & their body if recovery was worth it. Am I truly happy now? And I've seen so many women make the mistake of believing the lies. The lies that they will be miserable once they gain weight or that once they commit to putting their health first, they just won't like who they are. Many women I work with 1:1, actually come to me feeling like they are stuck in this never-ending cycle of an eating disorder & they just aren't sure they will ever escape from it. I feel that on so many levels. & I have sat with all of those same thoughts & beliefs. But I Recovered. & sis, so can you! Today's episode is a special one, because I wanted to share with you 8 reasons why my battle with anorexia was the BEST thing that happened FOR me in my life, in hopes it gives you some assurance & peace. Sister, sometimes the BEST thing & the WORST thing, can be the SAME thing! My eating disorder was the BEST, WORST thing that I have experienced, & I am truly grateful for the process of recovery. Robert Adams says, "There is only one decision you need to make: you are either working at your freedom or you are accepting your bondage." Stop staying chained where you are sweet friend! There is so much more to this thing called life. My question for you today is: What is your freedom worth to you? ~ I hope today's show touches your soul & helps provide PROOF to you, that recovery is possible & that there is LIFE after an eating disorder. There is freedom available for you! No but for realssss...go run (not walk) & listen to Episode 177 of the Her Best Self Podcast today, where I share with you the "Day Dare Method" & how you can create positive & lasting change in your life by simply "daring" yourself! ~ Do you remember the game "truth or dare" from your childhood? EP 176.5: The Freedom Formula ~ 9 Key Attributes of the "Recovered" & Fuel to Fight Your Fight⚗️**FAV ALERT!**
This year is flying by! How is it going for you sis? The truth over here is we are one baseball weekend to the next & I am doing my best to keep up with both boys, while granting myself permission to rest at the same dang time. I'm sure you feel me. My biggest advice: snacks on snacks! This baseball mom must have all snacks on deck for survival in the busy season. But it wasn't always that way for me....you see, I use to avoid snacks. I would tell myself that I could snack but only instead of eating a real meal. Any extras seemed scary...& at that point in my life...unnecessary. What changed? Well, I knew if I wanted to get somewhere I hadn't gone, then I had to do something that I hadn't done. So I followed my dietician's advice, & I packed snacks with me every time I left the house, so that I would never be in the position to skip eating. I ate the snacks...& the real meal. & after years of recovering myself, I wanted to bring to you a podcast episode around what traits & I feel are the core characteristics of those who have recovered. EP 176: True-up Tuesday! Embrace Your Enough-Ness With a Tangible Check-in to Recalibrate Your Goals Without the Pressure to Do More
Happy Tuesday sis! Monday was a complete blur. And if I'm honest, I'm still catching up from the weekend & week before! How about you? Do you have those weeks where you feel like you have been thrown right into the next week, yet you are still trying to play "catch up" from all the "to-dos"? That is me lately! But I'm grateful to be popping into your inbox & ear, as I share a new podcast episode with you. In Episode 176, I discuss the concept of a True-up Tuesday! This is like a start of the week check-in with you to ensure you are aligning your goals with where you are headed as you press forward in the creation of your best self. I always find Tuesday check-ins to be better than Monday check-ins because... well, Monday has the blues & the shenanigans! There is a TON of pressure that Monday brings. Tuesday is just Tuesday! I mean think about the last time you missed a goal that you promised yourself you would start "next Monday". Then the day comes & goes & you feel like a failure (again) pushing it to the next week. But how about just starting over on Tuesday?! How about having a Tuesday true-up? In this episode, I provide a tangible reflection that you can work through to help you check your priorities & get working on your wants, dreams & desires no matter what day of the week! ~ STOP believing the lie that being productive means being successful. Stop believing the lie that you have to DO more & BE more in order to find happiness & therefore BE worthy. Stop believing the lie that you have to please everyone else & get everything done perfectly in order to "arrive". ~ You are allowed to heal & grow. You are allowed to forgive & grieve. You are allowed to love others while also learning to honor yourself & your body with adequate nourishment. You are allowed to have a crappy Monday & to start again on Tuesday without any judgement. ~ Ask yourself this question: "What do I need to do LESS of this week, so that I can do MORE of the thing that is going to get me to freedom?" ~ Put down that checklist & pick up your notebook for this one! I promise to leave you inspired, motivated & ready for whatever the rest of the week brings your way. xo, lindsey Find All the Things -> wwww.herbestself.co ______ Coach with Me ->Client Application ______ Email me directly -> [email protected] ______ Join the free FB community -> www.herbestselfsociety.com ______ Need a helping hand guiding you girl!? EP 175: Coaching Over Coffee ~ “What to Do to Increase Portion Sizes & UP Your Food Intake When You “Aren’t Feeling It”
Hey girl HEYY! How is your Friday? I hope it is starting out oh soooo well! But to make it even better, I'd love for you to join me in another coaching over coffee episode on the HBS podcast today! If you are new here, I just wanted to hop into your inbox to say THANK YOU for listening to the Her Best Self Podcast! & if you are a veteran, I am so grateful that you trust in me week after week to bring you juicy, raw & real content that you can binge on to help support your relationship with food & your body. ~ In Coaching over Coffee, Episode 175 I answer the question: "What Can I Do To Increase Portion Sizes & Up my Food Intake When I'm Just Not 'Feeling It'?" ~ Here is a hint, (but I encourage you to listen to the full episode still): If you find yourself here, this is typically because you have a deep routed fear that if you increase food, you will gain weight. I mean, what if you don't know how to stop eating? Gosh, have I been there! What you are experiencing, I have also experienced. This comes from ED & the only way around it is to shift your perspective & begin to accept that maybe your body just isn't supposed to be controlled, forced or manipulated into a size. When you live life from a place of restriction...you believe you aren't allowed to have something, you shame yourself & you go against what it is you actually want....CONTROL, PEACE & FREEDOM. Body Acceptance is Key! But increasing your food gradually is also very helpful! ~ You can learn to embrace nourishment & to honor your body in all that it DOES for you! If you are looking for practical tips to help you with reframing your thoughts around food intake, then today's show is perfect for you. I hope this episode gives you more permission to do the next right thing!
