Hey girl, welcome back to the Her Best Self world! On the podcast today, I'm talking about how you can nourish your body when maybe you have portion anxiety or a fear around weight gain and so you simply don't know what portions to have. And this fear of what if I can't stop eating? Well, I want to pull up a seat at your table friend and love on you because I lived in this exact terrifying reality. Everything that you are doing in your life right now is a result of actions and beliefs that you have put on up to this point. And in my own personal recovery, I remember being in this exact spot and not really knowing how or what to do next. I knew I couldn't trust myself, but not really knowing who to trust. EP 183: When Family Doesn't Understand ~ Setting Boundaries in Eating Disorder Recovery 💞 (+ TRUTH just for YOU!)
Happy Friday sister! We have arrived. Actually, I secretly wish I could sleep the day away because my bed is cozy & even though I do enjoy this time of year there is just SO MUCH To DO! Speaking of which, are you ready for turkey day? I will be showing up at my in-laws pies in hand & ready to enjoy all the holiday brings. However, this wasn't always the case for me. For a decade I spent my life dreading this holiday. I would legit fantasize about how I could get out of being around "all that food" & even around my family, who I thought was watching me with each bite. Are you feeling this way? You don't have to sit in this mess & let it become who you are and that be it. This is just a speed bump. This is just a blimp in your journey here. If you are a loved one of someone who struggles with an eating disorder and you are unsure of what to do next, you don't have to have it all figured out, but it is important to get as educated as possible so you can help support your person. In Episode 183, I'm going to be talking about boundaries & what to do when your family just doesn't understand. ~ Boundaries are a better you, & in order to be the BEST version of you, you have to put some boundaries in place. It's so important. If you struggle with disordered eating, it's vital that you understand in some form or fashion that it affects and hurts every person close to you in your life. Yes, this is an isolating disease, but it echoes to everyone around you. It's like a domino. It just dominoes over & you can be in your own feels & you can think that it's not harming people that are in your circle. But if you don't have energy, you're snapping at your kids. If you don't have energy, you're nasty to your husband. If you aren't nourishing yourself or eating properly, you're not honoring yourself and therefore you're not giving your best version to everyone else. My goal today is that this helps you as you head into the holidays & that it encourages you to keep walking along your path to freedom. Today on the podcast, we're talking about rejection because your girl has had a life experience of rejection. And if you have been chasing perfectionism. Then you actually have been trying to prevent rejection in your own life. You see perfectionism is rejection prevention. It's the way that our brain and our mind tries to avoid the pain and the emotional trauma of feeling the "not enoughness". And the eating disorder that you may have developed over time, it offers this illusion of protection and it gives you that false comfort. In Episode 179, I want to talk about my rejection story and some of the examples of rejection in my life. I'm going to share a special story with you, with hopes that you will meet me there and hopes that you will find yourself in this place. Because the truth is that if we can look at our rejection story, we can create it into our redemption story. Recovery will be your biggest transformation. You can use the pain over all the years of your rejection to elevate you and to give you power as you move forward and embrace the imperfect mess that you are. I so believe you are enough! This year is flying by! How is it going for you sis? The truth over here is we are one baseball weekend to the next & I am doing my best to keep up with both boys, while granting myself permission to rest at the same dang time. I'm sure you feel me. My biggest advice: snacks on snacks! This baseball mom must have all snacks on deck for survival in the busy season. But it wasn't always that way for me....you see, I use to avoid snacks. I would tell myself that I could snack but only instead of eating a real meal. Any extras seemed scary...& at that point in my life...unnecessary. What changed? Well, I knew if I wanted to get somewhere I hadn't gone, then I had to do something that I hadn't done. So I followed my dietician's advice, & I packed snacks with me every time I left the house, so that I would never be in the position to skip eating. I ate the snacks...& the real meal. & after years of recovering myself, I wanted to bring to you a podcast episode around what traits & I feel are the core characteristics of those who have recovered. EP 176: True-up Tuesday! Embrace Your Enough-Ness With a Tangible Check-in to Recalibrate Your Goals Without the Pressure to Do More
Happy Tuesday sis! Monday was a complete blur. And if I'm honest, I'm still catching up from the weekend & week before! How about you? Do you have those weeks where you feel like you have been thrown right into the next week, yet you are still trying to play "catch up" from all the "to-dos"? That is me lately! But I'm grateful to be popping into your inbox & ear, as I share a new podcast episode with you. In Episode 176, I discuss the concept of a True-up Tuesday! This is like a start of the week check-in with you to ensure you are aligning your goals with where you are headed as you press forward in the creation of your best self. I always find Tuesday check-ins to be better than Monday check-ins because... well, Monday has the blues & the shenanigans! There is a TON of pressure that Monday brings. Tuesday is just Tuesday! I mean think about the last time you missed a goal that you promised yourself you would start "next Monday". Then the day comes & goes & you feel like a failure (again) pushing it to the next week. But how about just starting over on Tuesday?! How about having a Tuesday true-up? In this episode, I provide a tangible reflection that you can work through to help you check your priorities & get working on your wants, dreams & desires no matter what day of the week! ~ STOP believing the lie that being productive means being successful. Stop believing the lie that you have to DO more & BE more in order to find happiness & therefore BE worthy. Have you ever been hit upside the head by an acorn? I sure hope not! It's not the most pleasant experience - haha. This happened to me on my morning walk today & it was if nature itself gave me a big "ah ha" breakthrough. You see, if I'm completely transparent with you, lately I've been coming up against some pretty big & terrifying changes in my life & business. & if I'm honest, I've been avoiding & procrastinating & getting tired of trusting the process. So much so, I've questioned if I'm even on the right path in the first place. Have you ever found yourself here? Questioning if the future you want is more than just a dream? The question I asked myself this morning while reflecting was: What does it actually mean to "trust the process"? I mean, does the process even know you are trusting it? ~ The truth is our minds love FACTS, & therefore it can be really hard to release control & trust details of your life to the unknown...even if you believe that God has your back. EP 159: Coaching Over Coffee ~ ”What Do I Do When The 'Voice' Inside of My Head Gets Louder & Louder?" [REPLAY]

This past week, a listener of the Her Best Self Podcast wrote in asking the question: "What do I do when the "voice" inside of my head gets louder & louder? I've been trying to navigate healing from disordered eating but the voice doesn't go away. Any help or feedback you could give on the show would be wonderful!" The truth, according to researchers is that over 90% of individuals with an eating disorder, or those who suffer from disordered eating, experience a self-critical inner voice that can be distinguished from self-critical thoughts or cognitions. According to an article in medium.com, researchers have proposed that as the illness progresses, these unhealthy thoughts (thoughts that motivate eating disordered behavior's which may initially have seemed reasonable or even desirable) are replaced by the experience of hearing a ‘voice’ that is threatening & abusive, dictating & compelling the person to act in ways they recognize are unreasonable & which cause them significant distress. So with this in mind, I knew I MUST share with you what exactly YOU can do about those pesky thoughts & that mean girl voice. You have permission sis! & NO this doesn't mean you are binging. What you are experiencing, I have also experienced. This comes from a scarcity mindset. & what you need is to work your way up to a goal that makes sense for you. When you live life from a place of lack...you believe you aren't allowed to have something or you are afraid you won't have enough of something, you go against what it is you actually want....ABUNDANCE and FREEDOM of that very thing. This rule is a classic ED tactic, but you are capable of changing it! Reality is, if you haven't allowed yourself prior permission....now is the time & when your body is questioning if you've had enough or more than enough it's usually a sign it just wants permission for more.
