Ep 12047_Just In Time Strategy(零库存战略)
Elementary ‐ Advanced ‐ Just In Time Strategy (E0047) A: I called this meeting today in order to discuss our manufacturing plan. As I'm sure you're all aware, with the credit crunch, and the global financial crisis, we're obligated to look for more cost efficient ways of producing our goods. We don't want to have to be looking atredundancies. So, we've outlined a brief plan to implement the just-in-time philosophy.B: We have two basic points that we want to focus on. First of all, we want to reduce our lead time.C: Why would want to do that? I think this is not an area that really needs to be worked on.B: Well, we want to reduce production and delivery lead times for better overall efficiency.A: Right, production lead times can be reduced by moving work stations closer together, reducing queue length, like for example, reducing the number of jobs waiting to be processed at a given machine, and improving the coordination and cooperation between successive processes. Delivery lead times can be reduced through close cooperation with suppliers, possibly by inducing suppliers to locate closer to the factory or working with a faster shipping company.C: I see, That makes sense.B: The second point is that we want to require supplier quality assurance and implement a zero defects quality program. We currently have far too many errors that lead to defectiveitems and therefore, they must be eliminated. A quality control at the source program must be implemented to give workers the personal responsibility for the quality of the work they do, and the authority to stop production when something goes wrong.C: I'm with you on this one. It's essential that we reduce these errors; we've got to force our suppliers to reduce their mistakes.A: Exactly. Well, let's look at how we're going to put this plan into action. First... A: 没错。 首先…(声音淡出)【表达总结】召开会议:Call a meeting信贷紧缩:credit crunch不得不做某事,有义务做某事:be obligated to冗余: redundancy梗概,概述:outline执行,实施:implement零库存理念:just-in-time philosophy产品交付时间:lead time工位:work station给定的:given有道理,说得通:that makes sense有缺陷的:defective消除,根除:eliminate这点我同意你:I'm with you on this one公众号:东北英语课

I couldn’t imagine life without my little hamster(仓鼠)! hook up 【连接】when we’re talking about hooking sth up, we’re usually talking about electronic. 一般讲到hook up的时候,通常是与电子设备相关,意思是“把 (计算机或其他电子设备) 与 (类似机器或电源) 连接起来”,比如:>> I finally got a Nintendo Wii(任天堂游戏机) ,come on, help me hook it up to the TV. >> I don’t know how to hook up this new DVD player, can you help me? 我不知道这个新的DVD播放器要怎么连,你能帮帮我吗?>> I just hooked up my new HDTV,wanna come over and watch a movie? 我刚接上我的新高清电视,要不要过来看电影?page【(在公共传呼系统上)呼叫】call out somebody's nameover a P.A. system. hold still【不要动】stop moving. hold和keep类似,表示“维持某种状态”,still是静止的,故hold still就是让某人“不要动”,看电视剧时应该也会看到警察对可疑的人物说hold still。>> If you don’t hold still, I can’t see if you have something in your eyes. >> Hold still while she cuts your hair, or else she might make a mistake. >> Hold still, you have a beetle on your back. BP 【血压】it’s short for blood pressure. acute respiratory failure【急性呼吸衰竭】it’s serious, you stop breathing, if you’re going to acute respiratory failure, the doctor or somebody else has to perform CPR. intubate【插管】it’s a medical procedure, when patients can’t breathe properly, sometimes doctor takes a long tube and put it into their mouth, and down their pipes so that they can breathe better. bag sb.【挤压气囊把空气送进呼吸管里】there’s a bag attach to the intubation tube, and you squeeze it to put the air through the tube to the lungs. 它可以算是一个医学上的俚语(Medical slang), 在电视剧中医疗相关的部分你可能会经常听到,所以了解一下吧~stabilize【(使)稳定】when the doctor stabilize a patient, they take that patient out of danger. out of the woods【脱离险境,脱离困境】when someone is out of the woods, he’s free from danger, he’s safe. 稳定:stabilize脱离险境:out of the woods紧急状况:critical condition重症监护室:intensive care

Ep 14045_I’m Sorry I love You IV(对不起,我爱你4)
文 本Elementary‐Intermediate‐I’m Sorry I love You IV (C0045) A: ... so, I said, ”let’s take a break.” And since that night, I’ve been waiting for him to call, but I still haven’t heard from him. You don’t think he’s seeing someone else, do you?B: Come on, don’t be so dramatic! I’m sure everything is going to work out just fine.A: You think so? Oh, no! How can he do this to me? I’m sure he’s cheating on me! Why else wouldn’t he call?B: But, you two are on a break. Theoretically he can do whatever he likes.A: He’s the love of my life! I’ve really messed this up.B: Come on, hon. Pull yourself together. It’s going to be alright.A: But I... I still love him! And it’s all my fault! I can’t believe how immature and selfish I was being. I mean, he is a firefighter, it’s not like he can just leave someone in a burning building and meet me for dinner. I’ve totally messed this up!B: You know what, Veronica, I think you should make the first step. I’m sure he’ll forgive you...A: No, this is not gonna happen! I... I’ve ruined everything....B: Hey... do you hearsomething? Guess what? It’s your lovely firefighter!C: When I had you, I treated you bad and wrong dear. And since, since you went away, don’t you know I sit around with my head hanging down and I wonder who’s loving you. A:但是我… 是你可爱的消防员来啦C: (男主开始唱歌,who’s loving you的歌词)讲 解take a break【休息一下;分开一段时间】stop having a romantic relationship for a short time. take a break本身的意思是“休息一下”,比如说你的朋友已经连续工作了十几个小时了,你感觉到他满脸倦容,你就可以说>>- You look so tired, maybe you should take a break. on a break【处于冷静期】we’re on a break= we are not dating. 即如果你和你的伴侣take a break之后,你就可以说we’re on a break. 故事大概是这样的Racheal和Ross屡次争吵之后,有一次Racheal提出we should take a break. Ross一直强调的是“We were on a break”,这期间的出轨不能算是出轨。 hear from sb【得到某人的消息】be seeing someone【与某人约会,交往】when you are seeing someone, you’re dating them . >> I am seeing her. It has been a while. >> As far as I know, she's not seeing anybody. cheat on sb【对某人不忠】if you’re cheating on someone, you’re kissing or even having sex with somebody who’s not your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend. mess sth up【搞砸】cause sth to be spoiled by inept handling. Sth可以放中间,也可以放后面,mess up sth>> An error like that could easily mess up an entire day’s work. pull yourself together【振作起来,打起精神,恢复镇定】to become calm after being so angry or upset that you were unable to behave in a sensible way. Kinda like “calm down, be organized, stop crying, relax and take a deep breathe.” I know you can pull yourself together. 也可以表示“冷静一点,控制下情绪”,当对方生气而表现的很激动的时候,让他pull yourself togetherimmature 【不成熟的】behaving in a way that is not sensible and is typical of people who are much younger. >> Your toilet jokes are not funny, stop being so immature. >> Gini acts like she’s 16, she’s so immature. >> God,you and your friends always act so immature. selfish【自私的】a person who only thinks about themselves, not care about others. self表示“自己”,ish后缀加在后面变成形容词,意为“像… Everything is going to work out just fineEveryting is gonna be fineIt’s going to be alright其实不过大同小异,只是几个单词换着使用而已,不用太拘泥于用alright还是fine>> Everything is going to work out just fine, we’ll find your puppy,

Ep 15044_Small Talk (寒暄两句)
Elementary ‐ Small Talk (B0044) A: Morning.B: Hi there Mr.Anderson! How are you on this fine morning?A: Fine, thank you.B: It sure is cold this morning, isn’t it? I barely even get out of bed!A: Yeah. It’s pretty cold, alright.B: Did you catch the news this morning? The Patriots scored in the last minute!A: No, I don’t like football.B: Oh. . . By the way, I saw you with your daughter at the office Christmas party. She is really beautiful!A: She’s my wife! Oh,here’s my floor! Nice talking to you. Goodbye.B: Sir this is the 56th floor! We are on the 70th!A: That’s okay, I’ll take the stairs! B: 这是56层,我们在70层呢!A: 没关系,我爬楼梯!2讲 解small talk【闲聊,寒暄】small talk is a small conversion you have with people that you don’t know very well, but you still wanna be polite and you want maybe just chat a litter bit. 我们生活中可能会遇到一些认识但不是很熟的人,比如在街上,在电梯里,这时候不聊天好像有点尴尬,为了表示礼貌都会简单的问候闲聊几句,这就叫做small talkit sure is【的确是…】when you say “sure is”, this is a great way of emphasizing you believe the adjective to be true . It sure is hot/late/interesting, 的确是很热/迟了/很有型,前面的主语也可以是人,比如he sure is smart. 万能句式是Yeah ,it’s (pretty)+形容词,alright ,表示对对方观点的认可即可,比如说>> -It sure is a nice day today .–今天真是个好天气。 –Yeah,it’s pretty nice, alright. >> -The bus sure is late today. –Yeah,it’s late, alright –对啊。>> -This class is really hard. -Yeah, it’s hard , alright. 当然你也可以有其它回复,只要表示出你的认可就行啦~barely even【几乎不】it’s like almost couldn’t, almostnothing, we use it usually in the negative sense. barely本身就有“几乎不”的意思,even只是用来强调而已,可要可不要,这个词组常用在消极、否定的意思里面,表示由于一些原因,某人几乎不能完成或是做到某事。 >> I was so busy today, I could barely even eat my lunch. >> She was barely aware of his presence. >> I was so poor, I can barely even pay my rent. catch【听到】to see or hear sth. catch的意思和用法有很多,这里我们只讲一下本文的用法,它的意思是“听到”,didn’t catch sth可以表示没听到/没听懂/没听清,要根据上下文分析,本文中简单的表示“听到”>> I didn’t catch what you said= I didn’t hear what you said. >> I didn’t catch your name. = I didn’t hear your name. Do you happen to 【你碰巧…】do you by chance... happen有一个意思是“碰巧”, do you happen to就是“你碰巧怎么怎么样吗”,比如说do you happen to know where I can get a taxi, 直译起来是“你碰巧知道我能在哪里打到出租车吗”,这样翻译是不是有点奇怪,其实,你可以把do you happen to当作一个询问对方的一种切入方式,这个“碰巧”不需要翻译出来,上面的句子其实意思就是“你知道我能在哪里打到出租车吗”,下面的句子同理:>>Did you happen to go to that restaurant I recommended?你去了我推荐的那件饭店吗?>> Do you happen to have a pen?你有钢笔吗?>> Do you happen to know where the bathroom is?你知道卫生间在哪里吗?(第3次见到bathroom了,再记不住面壁吧)by the way【顺便提一下】when you say it you’re introducing a different topic after you’ve been talking about sth. >> Erica, don’t forget we have a meeting today, oh by the way, I like your haircut. (发型和开会没关系,是两个话题)>> -will you be at the meeting today?-你今天会来开会吗 - yeah, I’ll be there, oh btw,did you hear what happened yesterday? –会的,对了,你听说昨天发生的事儿了吗?(昨天发生什么事儿这八卦和开会没关系,是两个话题)>> oh by the way, I almost forgot, Maggie called. take the stairs【爬楼梯】it doesn’t mean you’re gonna take them somewhere, it means that you go upstairs. 关于爬楼梯,可能很多人会说use stairs,或是go upstairs(上楼), 正确的说法应该是take the stairs【表达总结】的确,真的:it sure is几乎不.:barely even听到:catch你碰巧...: do you happen to 对了,顺便说一句:by the way爬楼梯:take the stairs

You’re the one who’s responsible for all their expenses. >> Dozens of companies, including Hewlett-Packard, are sponsoring the event. Sponsor 还可以作为名词,表示“赞助者”,“倡议人”>>Race officials announced a handful of new sponsors on Tuesday. >> He was the sponsor of the parade. invitation letter【邀请函】a formal letter a friend, relative, or a business write to ask you to visit that country, you have to give that letter to visa officer. tie【联系;关系;纽带】a strong connection between people or organizations, so the ties you have to your country is the things that keep you attached to your country, that make sure you’ll return to your country . tie作为动词是“捆绑”,“束缚”的意思,作为名词就是“关系”“联系”的意思,ties to sth就是你和某事之间存在的一种联系,存在的牵绊。 >> I sold my house, and closed my bank account, I don’t have any more ties to my home country. >> Alvin enjoys being single, he wasn’t ready for the ties of family life. >> Diplomatic relations have improved, and the ties between the two countries are stronger. financially independent【经济独立】you have enough money for yourself, you don’t have to ask you parent to pay for your ticket or food or whatever. Ep 17042_I Need More Time(我需要更多时间)
Elementary ‐ I Need More Time (B0042) A: So, Casey, how are things going with the photos for the press kit?B: Yeah, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about that. I had trouble booking the photographer, and then Michael was sick for three weeks, so I couldn’t include him in the photos, and the design team lost all the files, so I had to re-do the pictures.A: I’m not going to put this off any longer, Casey! I want those photos ASAP! 我要尽快拿到那些照片!2讲 解Press kit【宣传资料袋;新闻发布材料】a set of documents, usually containing useful facts and figures, given to journalists by a company prior to a product release, news conference, etc .kit是“成套工具/设备”的意思,press是“新闻”的意思,合起来就是“整套的新闻发布资料”的意思。在一些正式的会议或是公司新产品的发布会前,都会准备这样的新闻发布材料给记者、新闻机构、报纸杂志等,主要是一些文档,包括数据,报表和图片等等,了解即可~I’ve been meaning to (do sth)【我一直想(做某事)】you’ve been wanting to do sth for a while, you’ve been thinking about it, and planning to do it, but you just haven’t done it, maybe because you don’t have time or money, etc。 I‘ve been meaning to来表达。 I’ve been meaning to,也可以把这件事放在后面,即用I‘ve been meaning to+你想做的事儿,如:>> I’m sorry I haven’t called you yet, I’ve been meaning to, but I‘ve been busy. >> I’ve been meaning to see that film for a while. deadline【最后期限;截止日期】the last possible date to do sth. For example, when you have a project, you have to finish by a certain date, that’s the deadline. 记的时候可以拆开单词来记,dead是死,line是线,最后期限其实就好像一条线,超出这条line就是dead(死路一条)~赶上截止日期,即在截止日期前完成就是meet the deadline,没赶上可以说是didn't meet the deadline 或是 miss the deadlineextension【延期】extension and deadline go together, if you can’t make or reach your deadline, you’ll ask for an extension, you ask for more time , and the extension is moving the deadline in the future . delay【推迟,延期】the opposite is “on time”. 动词:>>The match was delayed for half an hour due to heavy rain. 我们经常在谈论交通的时候会用到,如>> I was delayed by heavy traffic this morning. >> Myplane was delayed by a heavy storm. put off【推迟】when you put sth off, itmeans you leave it for later.put off 表示延迟时一般是主动提出延期的要求或做出推迟的决定,并不是因为有意外或者由不定因素而导致需要延期。>> I’ve been putting this project off for a week, and it’s due tomorrow. (顺便回顾下我们上两集讲到的due)>> Can we put our meeting off to next week, I’m too busy right now. >> I’ve been putting my email off all day, and now I have 50 messages to respond to. run into problems 【遇到了问题】”meet some problems” is wrong, the correct expression is “run into problems”. 我们在谈到“遇到问题”问题的时候很可能会想遇到是meet,问题是problem,就合成了meet some problems,但是这种说法是不对的,正确的说法应该是run into problems, run into是“遇上(问题、麻烦)”等的意思,后面可以跟problem, difficulty, trouble 等不好的事物,如>> we ran into a storm on our way home. >> if you’re not careful now, you’re going to run into a lot of problems later. >> I ran into some troubles with my computer. 【拓展】run into后面也可以加sb,还可以表示“撞见某人”beyond my control【无法控制】you can’t control, you can’t do anything about it. “超出了我的控制”,类似sth is out of controlhave trouble doing sth【做某事有困难】表示“做某事有困难”,“难以做到某事”ASAP【尽快】as soon as possible . ASAP是as soon as possible的缩写,在工作的邮件里非常常见。 I've been meaning to延期:extension最后期限,截至日期: deadline延迟,推迟:delay遇到问题:run into problems无法控制:beyond my control做...有困难:have trouble doing sth推迟某事:put sth off尽快:ASAP

I look at this as an opportunity. This is a chance for me to get a jump start on building my nest egg.B: All I know about that; with all the uncertainty in the markets right now, it would be a very unwise decision to invest. I don’t know if you’re aware son, but there has been a lot of turmoil in the markets recently. There've already been half a million layoffs in the last few months, and we have no idea how the proposed stimulus package will impact upon the economy. There’s just too much instability. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in this climate.A: But look at it this way, every challenge is an opportunity. And anyway, I’m not talking about investing in the domestic market. There are emerging markets that promise great returns. Look at China, for example; they have 1.4 billion people, half a billion of whom have recently entered the middle class. Here alone, the aggregate demand for consumer goods represents an amazing wealth generating opportunity.B: Oh, come on, son, you’re looking at this too naively, the Chinese market has exhibited a great deal of instability, and their currency has been devalued by almost a whole percentage point.A: Fine, then! If that’s the way you feel, so be it. But you’re losing out on a great opportunity here. I’m going to go hit up Mum for the cash.A:爸爸,我想借一些钱。 KeyVocabularyinevitable:unavoidable;不可避免的nest egg:money that is saved to pay for something in the future, usually a house, or retirement;储蓄金turmoil [ˈtɜ:rmɔɪl]:a state of confusion, disorder, disturbance;混乱 骚动stimulus package:amount of money the government uses to improve the economy;刺激经济提案emerging market:nations undergoing quick industrialization;devalue:reduced in value;贬值hit up:ask for money;请求
