DBR Bites #28 - Elko Exits Duke

Under the cover of night, Mike Elko boarded a plane and put Durham in his rear-view mirror. After 2 years of great success at Duke, he is moving on to Texas A&M, one of the big power-players in college football. I guess this is what it feels like when Duke basketball swoops in and grabs a stud recruit at the last minute. The DBR Podcast gang (including a guest appearance by Sam Klein) discuss the impact of Elko's decision from both a rational and an emotional standpoint. The guys have plenty of thoughts on how this all went down, including comments on what Elko was apparently saying to Duke at the same time as he was talking to A&M. After a quick break, the podcast crew looks at some of the names being bandied about as the next head coach at Duke. We think this is a candidate search that needs to go very fast as Duke needs a leader in place to keep recruits and transfers committed to the program. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 561#561 - Duke overcomes Thanksgiving hangover

The Duke Blue Devils had a poor effort display against Southern Indiana, but still emerged with the win on Friday night. We recap the game on Episode 561. The Blue Devils had a Black Friday hangover, whether it was too much turkey or not enough intensity, and it showed against the Screaming Eagles. After breaking down all the headlines that listeners sent in, they get to the good and bad of this contest. They focus on some of the great “statless domination” that the team showed at the end of the 1st half, but they also reflect on how the game started, with everyone saying that they didn’t have the effort that Duke Basketball requires. We end with our play of the game, which was a dynamite hammer from Tyrese Proctor, and we give out our first Player of the Week honors of the season. We also hit the gridiron, where Duke Gang finished out their regular season with a solid victory over Pitt. Duke finishes the season 7-5 and now turns to where they will end up for their bowl game. Jason and Donald review some of the possible destinations and discuss the ACC’s various bowl tie-ins. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 560#560 - Doctor Proctor, gimme the W!

We’re back with Episode 560 to recap Duke’s win over LaSalle! The Blue Devils took out LaSalle 95-66 to move to 4-1 on the season, and Donald and Jason are here to recap the good and bad from the game. There were some great headlines, so they begin there, recapping some of the best that were sent in by others. Then, they get to the wealth of good things that happened in this game from Tyrese Proctor to Sean Stewart and the team defense. After the break, we deal with the things to improve from this game as the team wasn’t perfect on the evening. Limiting the scoring droughts and stretches of sloppy play are at the top of the concern list. We end by discussing Justin Robinson’s appearance on The Brotherhood Podcast and taking a look at some of the big early season tournament results that hit our radar. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 559#559 - Bison Beatdown

Duke had no trouble taking care of the Bucknell Bison, 90-60, but there were several interesting events in the game that need a deep analysis. That is what the Duke Basketball Roundup is all about. Jason and Donald sit down to discuss Flip's near-injury, Scheyer's first technical, Mitchell dominating in the paint, and McCain grabbing boards and raining threes. After talking about all the good and bad from this game, the DBR Podcast crew dives into the next opponent in the Blue Devil Challenge, La Salle. The Explorers have some interesting players and are coached by a college basketball legend, Fran Dunphy. Oh, and be sure to stick around at the end to hear a little bit about Donald's trip to Trinidad and Tobago. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

DBR Bites #26 - How to beat the Bison!

Let's be honest, Bucknell won't be as tough an opponent as Arizona or Michigan State but no one should be overlooked or dismissed so the Duke Basketball Roundup crew is here to look at what to expect from the Bison. They've got an excellent scorer on the wing who can rip down the nets with his 3 point stroke and a 7-footer on the inside who will present a challenge for Flip and the Duke big men. Have a listen to the podcast to hear a bit more about what Bucknell does well and where they struggle. And, as soon as the game is over don't forget to send your suggested headlines (alliteration and puns preferred) to DBRPodcast at gmail so the guys can read the best of your submission when they recap the game over the weekend. Ep 558#558 - Spankin' Sparty

The Duke Basketball Roundup is here with a recap of the Blue Devil's bounce-back win over Michigan State. Caleb Foster went bananas (get it?!?!) from long range in this one... and Duke needed it as some of our more reliable guards suffered from poor shooting performances. Jason and Donald are joined by Forbes.com college basketball writer Jeff Fedotin to talk about what went right and wrong in the United Center. In addition to gushing about Foster, everyone was impressed with the rebounding and the play of Ryan Young. Plus, Jeff gives us some behind the scenes from his conversations with Jon Scheyer and Tom Izzo at the game. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 557#557 - How to rebound against the Spartans

Duke Men’s Basketball heads to the United Center in Chicago tomorrow to take on Michigan State in the Champions Classic, and we preview the big game on Episode 557. Michigan State comes into this game with the same record as Duke: 1-1, with their loss courtesy of James Madison in the biggest upset in college basketball in the first week of the season. Jason and Donald preview what the Spartans can do well and what they have struggled with on the short season. They then take a look at the rest of the ACC, and the conference’s struggles make this game a bit more important. After the break, we switch to the gridiron, where Duke fell in a close game to UNC in 2OT. However, there were a couple controversial calls that once again changed the trajectory of the game. After a brief discussion of the game, the conversation shifts to the reports that Texas A&M have let Jimbo Fisher go, and lots of people list Mike Elko as a top candidate to replace him. Jason and Donald talk about the reports and whether they think he will stay in Durham or move onto one of the big college jobs that are either currently open or could be open by season’s end. Ep 556#556 - First Loss! What Happened Against Arizona?

The Duke Basketball Roundup takes a deep dive into the good and the bad from the Blue Devils' heavyweight matchup with the Arizona Wildcats. It was a tough, back-and-forth battle that put several Duke weaknesses on stark display. The starters suffered from poor shooting early and Arizona really dominated the boards, especially in the first half. When Duke turned to what was expected to be a deep bench, the guys who came in failed to provide a meaningful lift. But, nothing we saw rises to the level of an unfixable problem. The big question for Duke moving forward is, will they learn from this game and transform into a better team? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 555#555 - Welcoming the Wildcats

The Duke Blue Devils welcome the Arizona Wildcats to Cameron on Friday night, and we preview the big game on Episode 555! It’s an early season matchup between two highly ranked teams, and to help us preview the Wildcats, we welcome Brian Pedersen of Arizona Desert Swarm to the show. Brian helps us understand the Arizona team that is coming to Cameron, from the players we know like Caleb Love to guys we may be unfamiliar with, like Oumar Ballo. Arizona’s a tall team with a lot of muscle, and Brian really helps Duke fans know what to expect when the two teams hit the floor. Jason and Donald then take the time to preview what they want to see from Duke in this matchup. They discuss rebounding, guard play, rotations, and of course, the hope that “Vintage Cameron” is alive on Friday night. It’s going to be a really fun game that we can’t wait to watch, and this preview will help get you ready! Make sure you’re following us! Ep 554#554 - Duke Dunks Dartmouth

If you had guessed that Jalen Blakes and Spencer Hubbard would arguably play bigger roles in Duke's season opening victory than Sean Stewart and TJ Power, go to the prize window to collect your reward. The Duke Basketball Roundup has plenty to talk about in their recap of Duke's impressive win over the Dartmouth Big Green and it all begins with the impressive display of depth from Jon Scheyer's squad. Duke used a combination of withering defensive pressure and smart offensive execution to pull away from Dartmouth around the middle of the first half and then coasted to victory. The DBR podcast crew of Jason and Donald are joined by a special guest -- former Chronicle Digital Sports editor Scott Rich -- for this recap of the game. In addition to a deep dive into the Duke win, they also look at how the rest of the ACC did on college basketball's opening night including a close call for Louisville and several impressive wins where ACC teams showed no trouble clearly the 90 or even 100 point marks. Ep 552#552 - Duke awaits the Big Green

The basketball season is just a few sleeps away from beginning, and we get started with the previews on Episode 552! The Duke Blue Devils host the Dartmouth Big Green on Monday night in the season opener for men’s basketball. Jason and Donald begin with a preview of the Big Green, giving you some names to watch for and how Dartmouth generally plays. It’s been a long time since Dartmouth played a top 5 opponent. We also give a quick look at how you might see Duke line up on Monday night. After the break, Duke Gang is bowl bound! Duke grinded out a 24-21 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and we discuss the play of Grayson Loftis, how long Riley Leonard might be out, and we salute the team for how they came back so many times and battled adversity to get that crucial 6th win on the season. Ep 551#551 - How did Duke look in their exhibition game?

It was our first peek at the 2023-24 Blue Devils in a (sorta) real game as Duke took on UNC-Pembroke last night in Cameron. Though it was just an exhibition against an outmanned DII school, we learned a lot about how the early rotations look for Jon Scheyer's club and we are starting to see what the new faces on the team are capable of achieving. The Duke Basketball Roundup had a bunch of takeaways from the game starting with this one... Jared McCain looks like the real deal, an elite scorer who can get his shot (and to the FT line) any time he wants. After a full breakdown of the game, the DBR Podcast crew also looks ahead to the next recruiting announcement on the horizon -- 5-star big man Patrick Ngongba will announce his school of choice on Saturday and there are a lot of signs that say he will be picking Duke. Finally, Jason and Donald take a moment to reflect on the career and legacy of Bobby Knight, the General, a man who had a profound influence on the entire college basketball world, and especially on Duke's own Coach K. Ep 550#550 - Still flipping out over Flagg

Whew, it has been a busy few days for the Duke Basketball Roundup but the guys are still gushing over the decision by Cooper Flagg to come to Duke next year. Make no mistake, this kid is a generational talent and the podcast gang has some stats and comparisons that will help all of you understand what it means that he will be playing in Cameron next season. After the break, Jason and Donald turn to the future of ACC football. The conference has unveiled the schedule for the next several years and the guys have some thoughts about what works and what doesn't for the Blue Devils and Mike Elko. Lastly, we go outside of Duke but inside the conference to talk about an historic basketball power that has fallen on some really tough times lately. What is the future of Louisville basketball? Oh, and wait until you hear about the Duke connection to a little known player from Flagler College who put a scare into big bad Florida State over the weekend! Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 549#549 - Sam Klein says farewell to the DBR Podcast

The Duke Basketball Roundup is getting a little bit smaller. Longtime co-host Sam Klein announces he is leaving the pod, though he promises to still show up every now and then when the mood (or the news) suits him. This episode features Sam reflecting on the 9 years he has been alongside Jason and Donald on this little experiment that has so far begat well over 500 episodes. The simple truth is that Sam was always the heart and the humor of the DBR Podcast and there is no way to replace him. Donald and Jason will carry on, with a rotating series of occasional guest-hosts who all will pale in comparison to Sam. Ep 548#548 - Emergency Pod COOPER FLAGG TO DUKE!!

So, this is a crazy episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup. About 31 minutes into the podcast, we found out -- LIVE -- that super-recruit Cooper Flagg had committed to Duke. You get to hear the guys react in real-time to this major piece of recruiting news that sets up the 2024-25 Blue Devils to be one of the best teams in the land. Flagg is considered a "generational talent," and may be the best defensive wing we have seen at Duke in many years. Meanwhile, the beginning of the podcast features Jason, Sam, and Donald talking about the Preseason ACC rankings and the All-ACC teams. Plenty of Blue Devils show up on the lists including Flip, Proctor, McCain, and Foster. Oh, and the guys also talk about Duke's secret scrimmage with Villanova on Saturday. News about that event has been hard to come by but the Roundup has some sources who told us a bit about what happened. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 547#547 - Preseason All American Ratatouille!

There is a ton of topics to discuss on a loaded Episode 547, so we put several of them in the pot and start stirring! Kyle Filipowski was named a 1st team preseason All American, and Jason and Donald discuss what a cool honor it is for the sophomore big man. It also brings some more expectations, and we think Flip is ready to rise to the challenge. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips had some comments during ACC Media Day about the logistics that will face Cal, Stanford, and SMU when they enter the conference next year. He also mentioned that if it were up to him, the ACC Tournament wouldn’t have all 18 teams competing. That’s a topic that has to be discussed in full. The 2023-24 NBA season kicked off last night, and there are 24 Duke Blue Devils on the rosters of 18 teams. We discuss who has moved in the offseason and who we’re looking forward to watching at the next level. After the break, Duke Football will take on the Louisville Cardinals on the road on Saturday in another big ACC game. We investigate what Duke will need to do in order to get back on track. Finally, we’re waiting for some recruiting news to drop with Cooper Flagg, Pat Ngongba, and VJ Edgecombe. We hope to hear something soon, but no we are not going to jinx anything! Ep 546#546 - A magical Countdown to Craziness!

It was a busy weekend for Duke Blue Devils Athletics, so we take some time on Episode 546 to discuss the magic that was Countdown to Craziness as well as Duke Football’s tough loss to Florida State. First, Sam’s voice is nearly gone from his fun weekend, so he gives his quick takes on both Countdown and the football game before he departs, leaving Donald and Jason to discuss both in depth. We start with Countdown, where Donald kicks off by mentioning Duke Women’s Basketball’s performance and showing them some love as well as Jon Scheyer inking a new contract to remain at Duke for a long time. Then, the two get into Duke Men’s Basketball, starting with the player intros and then the performance of the team. They analyze every player on the team, from All American Christian Reeves to Jaylen Blakes. It was a fun night in Cameron and it’s time to officially get excited about our team! After the break, Duke Football suffered a tough loss to the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night. Donald and Jason discuss some of the good and bad and of course describe the big turning point in the game: Riley Leonard aggravating his ankle injury. There’s a quick discussion on the game as well as whether each believe Riley Leonard should be rested against Louisville. Ep 545#545 - Scooping how to smash the Seminoles

We’re back in your feeds already because on Saturday night, Duke Football has a big, big game. We preview the matchup with the #4 Florida State Seminoles on Episode 545. Duke enters the game as the #16 team in the AP poll, but they’re facing their toughest test of the season as they travel to Tallahassee to take on the Noles. FSU is 6-0, tops in the ACC, and are thinking playoff as they host the Blue Devils for their homecoming game. Jason and Donald are back to preview what they hope to see on Saturday night from the Blue Devils. After the break, we welcome Tim Alumbaugh from Tomahawk Nation, our sibling FSU podcast over at the Fans First Sports Network. Tim and Donald go through the FSU team in depth, with Tim providing some insight on what makes the Seminoles so good and where Duke might have an advantage as they attempt the upset. Ep 544#544 - Start the Countdown!

The Duke Basketball Roundup is starting to get busy with our first football/basketball weekend of the year, so on Episode 544, we have our preview of Countdown to Craziness! Duke Men’s Basketball will take to Coach K Court for the first time in front of a packed Cameron tomorrow night for Countdown to Craziness, and Jason and Donald discuss what they are most looking forward to seeing. Jason begins by saying he’s looking forward to...the refs?! With new rules on charges in effect, he’s looking to see how refs apply that moving forward. We get to the actual event and the focus will be on some of the dancing and the introduction of the personalities on the team. Talk then shifts to Caleb Foster and his performance in the “uncut” highlights from Duke’s most recent scrimmage. Foster looked great in the video, and Jason is excited to see more of him when they take the floor tomorrow night. After the break, Coach K dropped by The Brotherhood Podcast to chat with Ryan Young on life after coaching Duke Basketball. It was an amazing episode where the GOAT spoke on how much joy he has doing the things he loves to do, from spending time with his family to all of his philanthropic efforts and serving as an ambassador for Duke. He also speaks frankly about conference realignment, NIL, and the inability for the NCAA and ACC to lead in securing the future of college basketball. It’s well worth a listen! Ep 543#543 - We're Number 2!! Preseason rankings are out

Two of the most watched preseason polls came out today -- the Associated Press and KenPom. The Blue Devils check in at #2 (to Kansas) in the AP poll but are a bit lower, #9, in Ken Pomeroy's initial rankings. Of course, none of this will really matter very much once the actual games start being played, but that won't stop the Duke Basketball Roundup from obsessing over these polls and dissecting every aspect of them... including expectations for the rest of the ACC (this just in, the conference is getting very little respect). After the break, the DBR Podcast dives into the football game against NC State, a 24-3 victory for dear old Duke. While it may not have been the most impressive offensive display, the podcast crew is full of praise for the Duke D, which is making a case as one of the best defensive units in the entire college football universe. Ep 541#541 - A look ahead to NC State

The impressive Duke football team gets back in action this weekend... and star QB Riley Leonard might actually play. The Duke Basketball Roundup team are thrilled with that report and they use it as a launching off point to discuss the "backyard brawl" coming up against NC State. Duke has visions of big things this season and need to take care of business against a decent Wolfpack team. After the break, Jason, Donald, and Sam also get into a quick chats about a series of other stories... there's Mike Elko's profile in The Athletic, Duke and St. John's maybe getting ready to play at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Kansas basketball getting in trouble with the NCAA (not!), and news that one of the most coveted basketball recruits around has decided to move up a year and put himself in the same class as Cameron Boozer. Ep 540#540 - Reviewing the "Raw Uncut" scrimmage video

The Duke Basketball Roundup is back to do what it does best on Episode 540: overanalyze scrimmage video! First off, Sam’s back from working too hard, so Donald and Jason give him the floor to put a bow on the Duke-Notre Dame game and give his thoughts. Then, we move to the raw uncut. Duke Men’s Basketball released a 9 minute scrimmage video from and intrasquad scrimmage it had last weekend with ACC officials. It’s time to overanalyze, y’all. First, we discuss Kyle Filipowski and TJ Power and how good they looked. Could TJ Power challenge for that 5th starting spot? We then move to the guards, discussing the competition for playing time between Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, Jared McCain, and Caleb Foster. It’s going to be a good one that only makes the team better. After the break, we discuss Christian Reeves and how he looked great in the 2nd half of the video. Will he be the #1 pick in the NBA Draft? Will he get off the bench for Duke this season? Two questions that must be answered. Ep 539#539 - Heartbreak against the Irish

The DBR Podcast has a message -- Duke Football has arrived. Yes, they lost a gut-wrenching game to Notre Dame this weekend, but the team showed that win over Clemson was not fluke. They can compete with any team in the land. The Duke Basketball Roundup guys turn into the Duke Football Roundup for a brief moment to sing the praises of the players and the coaches who accomplished so much, even as they fell from the ranks of the unbeaten. After the break, the focus turns back to basketball with word that Jon Scheyer has named his 3 captains for the upcoming season... 2 of those names were expected, but one of them was a bit of a surprise. The DBR Podcast guys dive into the difference in freshman year and sophomore year Tyrese Proctor to understand why he is taking such a big role on this season's Blue Devil team. Ep 538#538 - Preparing to Fight the Irish

The Duke Basketball Football Roundup is here with Episode 538 as we do an extensive preview of Duke Football’s huge game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish! Jason and Donald begin the show by discussing the fact that for the first time, the football College Gameday show will be on Duke’s campus. We hope that the football team and the fans embrace the moment that’s upon us...we’re the center of the college football world, if only for a day. Impress! We then begin our preview with an interview with Hayden Adams from One Foot Down, the Notre Dame SB Nation blog. Hayden helps us take an in depth look at the Fighting Irish, first discussing the aftermath of their loss to Ohio State last weekend and then focusing on both sides of the football. Hayden tells us about some of the players that Duke should focus on when they take the field on Saturday. Hayden then ends with a few predictions. After the break, Jason and Donald react to Hayden’s thoughts on Notre Dame and give some of the keys to the game for Duke. Of course, we end with predictions, but not just on scores. We discuss which headgear we think Lee Corso will pick as well as who we would like to see as the celebrity guest picker on Saturday morning. It’s going to be a fun weekend of football...enjoy it, Duke fans! Make sure you’re following us! Ep 537#537 - The schedule is out!

If you are like the DBR podcast crew, you have been waiting for months for some real, solid news about the 2023-24 Blue Devils. We got some just a short time ago as the ACC announced the schedule for the upcoming season. Jason and Donald take a deep dive into the when and where to try to find potential landmines that could trip up the Devils. And there is much more to enjoy on this episode -- Kon Kneuppel's dad writes to us, we look back at Duke football crushing UConn to go to 4-0, and we tip our cap to NC State as they honor an absolute legend with a statue outside Reynolds Coliseum. DBR Bites #25 - Kon Kneuppel is a Blue Devil!!

Thursday night, Duke Basketball received a surprise commitment from Class of 2024 star Kon Kneuppel, and we had to jump on to react to it on DBR Bites Episode 25! Kneuppel’s commitment was way out of left field, to the point where Duke’s “Another One” video that they post with a commitment didn’t come for quite some time. But, Duke fans should be very excited about landing the best shooter in the Class of 2024 to add to a class that is already one of the best in college basketball and loaded with supreme shooters. After the break, we break down some stats from Kneuppel’s play on the EYBL circuit, and we take a deep dive into the Kneuppel family tree and their basketball pedigree (we’re taking you back to the Gus Macker, folks). Needless to say, we’re very excited about this addition to The Brotherhood! Make sure you’re following us! Ep 536#536 - Revisiting your wild predictions!

The Duke Basketball Roundup is back with Episode 536! On our last episode, Jason and Donald gave some bold Duke Basketball predictions for the upcoming season, and we asked our listeners to give their own wild predictions. And what a response! So many of you chimed in via email and the DBR Forums that we had to discuss some of them on the show. So, Jason and Donald go through some of their favorite bold predictions and grade the odds of them happening. There are some very bold picks and some that we think are more likely to happen than people may believe. After the break, Duke Football has another test this weekend, this time on the road against UConn. UConn has not been great this season, but they will be ready to play Duke, and we preview what Duke needs to do in order to pass their first road test of the season. There’s also a looming matchup next week against Notre Dame, but they can’t look ahead. The team needs to be focused on putting the Huskies in their place first. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 535#535 - Football crushes Northwestern

Three up, three down... Mike Elko and his merry band of bad@*! football players remain undefeated in 2023 thanks to a thorough beatdown of Northwestern (suck it, Big Ten!!). The Duke Basketball Roundup has all the details from the victory starting with words of praise for the defense and ending with swooning over the run game and QB Riley Leonard. After the break, it is time for some basketball content with a couple predictions that may seem unlikely, but could come true in the 2023-24 basketball season -- one about Jaden Schutt and one about the ACC as a conference. And, before we sign out, Jason and Donald talk about which road venue in the ACC seems most interesting to visit as a rival fan. #534 - What Happened at the World Cup?

Today's episode is a potpourri of interesting topics. We begin with some reflections on the solemn day of 9-11. Both Donald and Jason have person connections to the tragic events of that day in 2001. Next, we move to the gridiron news both Duke's thumping Lafayette (a game that was more than a little bit frustrating early on) and a look ahead at the Northwestern Wildcats, a program that seems to be in utter turmoil. After a break, the podcast guys are back to dive into Team USA and their disappointing performance at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, as well as a look ahead at the big name players who seem to want to play in the 2024 Olympics. And the podcast wraps up with word that Fox Sports is thinking about staging a competitor to the NIT postseason tournament. How will that work? Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 533#533 - Expansion is upon us

The Duke Basketball Roundup is finally ready to give their thoughts on ACC expansion on Episode 533! First, Duke Football is back on the menu as we get ready for this weekend’s game against Lafayette. Jason and Donald begin by going back to Monday night’s stomping of Clemson to give one more thing they loved about that game. Donald is still on a high after that one and how they played, while Jason continues to marvel at the defensive side of the ball. Next up for Duke Gang is the Lafayette Leopards, a FCS opponent that isn’t thought to be very good. Still, fans should not take them lightly. Duke will want to get out and play like the ranked team they now are and show that being ranked is not a fluke. After the break, it’s finally time to discuss ACC expansion, which will see Cal, Stanford, and SMU enter the conference next year. Jason and Donald are both on the same page: it’s a complex issue, and there are pros and cons for the conference. Money, prestige, keeping the conference intact, logistics...all are on the table as the expansion talk continues. Make sure you’re following us! It wasn’t a perfect win for Duke, and we quickly discuss that, but come on now...we’re having fun with this one! We talk about our favorite plays and performances, what this means for Duke moving forward, and we even compare it to other big wins in Duke Football history. Listen and feel the joy!! Ep 531#531 - Preparing for the Duke Football opener

The Duke Basketball Roundup is back with Episode 531, with Jason and Donald getting us ready for the start of Duke Blue Devils Football. We start with some comments on the tragedy that occurred at UNC on Monday. Our hearts are with the family and friends of the faculty member who was killed. UNC may be our rivals on the court or field, but they are our neighbors, co-workers, friends and family in the game of life, and we stand with them. We also wanted to announce that we have moved the show to a new network: Fans First Sports Network! We’re hoping this move will be a beneficial one as we reunite with several podcasts from the SB Nation Podcast era, and we’re excited about all the possibilities! We get into Duke Football, as they host the Clemson Tigers in a huge game to open up the season on Monday night. We discuss what makes Clemson really good and why Duke has a better chance than most think of pulling off the upset and otherwise turning some heads with their play. After the break, The Brotherhood Podcast had a great episode featuring the freshman class for Duke Basketball. We marvel at how tight knit the players are and how they seem to really enjoy being around each other. It’s a fun interview done by Ryan Young, so check it out! Finally, we give Johnny Dawkins and Coach K their flowers, as they are both inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame. We reflect on their career and how it’s awesome that the two of them get to enter the Hall together. Make sure you’re following us! Ok, now that you have heard part 1, be ready for some really juicy stuff in part 2. We get the lowdown on the teambuilding weekend in Chicago and what caused the NCAA to cancel Duke's special NIL scrimmage that was going to put thousands of dollars in the pocket of the Duke players. Ryan also tells us a bit about how NIL programs work at Duke, peeling back the curtain at least a little bit on an area where we rarely get much concrete information. Ep 527#527 - NIL Event Cancelled & a New Assistant Coach

The news was coming fast and furious on this Thursday, so the Duke Basketball Roundup team sat down to bring you all we have heard about the two breaking stories. First up, the big NIL event Duke was scheduled to hold in Chicago this weekend, an event that was going to bring in more than $100,000 for Duke's players, has been cancelled by the NCAA. While details are sketchy, the DBR podcast gang has speculation about why the NCAA squashed this fun fan event. After the break, the podcast also dives into the newest addition to Jon Scheyer's staff, Emanuel Dildy. He's deeply experienced and really respected in recruiting circles. Ep 526#526 - Scrimmage video and non-conference schedule set

The Duke social media team has been hard at work lately and their latest offering is 10-minutes of highly edited video of a scrimmage from a recent practice. It is tough to read too much from these videos where 95% of the missed shots and turnovers are hidden from view, but the DBR Podcast gang gives it a shot. But, before that happens, the guys have to talk about Baylor officially being added to the non-conference schedule. There are 4 big time games on the schedule now. Is that the right number? The Duke Basketball Roundup was in the house as Duke revealed a little bit of itself to the media this week. We heard from Flip, Ryan, Mark, and Jeremy... as well as from Coach Scheyer. And, as an added bonus, we got to watch as the team ran through some drills. Among the biggest takeaways, we really like the way Jai Lucas coaches these guys. Plus, after the break we talk a bit about the ACC's new broadcast deal with the CW Network. It may seem small time, but this could be an important step in the conference keeping up with the rest of the P5 conferences. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 524#524 - Will Avery returns and Peach Jam highlights

The Duke Basketball Roundup celebrates the newest member of the Duke coaching staff, former player Will Avery. The DBR podcast gang breaks down Will's unlikely path back to Durham and what he brings to the table as an assistant coach. And, after the break, we do a deep dive into what happened at the elite EYBL Peach Jam this weekend. Future Dukies Isaiah Evans and Darren Harris both led their teams in impressive fashion, boosting their "recruiting stock" in the process. But everyone was talking about class of 2025 recruits Cameron and Cayden Boozer and Cooper Flagg. The podcast's Jason Evans watched numerous games over the weekend and has plenty to tell us about these guys who we (hope) to someday see in a Duke uniform. Learn more about your ad choices. After a commercial break, the podcast gang laments the departure of Amile Jefferson, headed from the Duke bench to the NBA's Boston Celtics, and they take some guesses at who might be the next assistant coach in Durham. Next year, Duke will be counting on 3 sophs (Flip, Mitchell, and Proctor) to help lead the team to the promised land of another Final Four (or Natty?!?!). The notion of stud sophomores is not something Duke fans have seen very often in the one-and-done era. So, the DBR Podcast's Jason Evans went back over the history books to find the 10 best Sophomore Seasons in Duke history (since the mid-1970s).
