Ep 601#601 - Duke Destroys Cards

The Duke Blue Devils took care of business against the Louisville Cardinals, and we recap the game on Episode 601! Duke made easy work of the Cards, winning by 25 in a game that really was over early in the 2nd half. Jason and Donald hit the headlines and discuss the good in this game. In a game that was sloppy at times, the defense was still very good on the evening. They rebounded amazingly well and won almost every positive statistical category. We then get into the individual players, and there was a lot of love shown for guys like Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, Sean Stewart, and even Spencer Hubbard. After the break, we get into some of the things to improve from this game, and spoiler: turnovers and free throws were the bulk of this discussion. We’ll be back in your feeds again really soon to preview Saturday’s game against UVA. Make sure you’re following us! DBR Bites #38 - Duke hopes to reshuffle the Cards

We’re back with DBR Bites Episode #38, where we preview the Duke Blue Devils’ upcoming game against the Louisville Cardinals. Duke hopes to get back to their winning ways against a Louisville team that has not been good all season. Jason and Donald go through what they’ve done since they last played back on January 23rd and some of the things that they do well. Duke will obviously have some question marks depending on whether Kyle Filipowski and Caleb Foster are healthy enough to play, but this is a game that Duke should use to take care of business and win. After the break, we get into the 2025 NBA mock drafts, and there are some interesting names on the list. We end with a brief look at one AP pollster’s “mistake” of putting Arizona State into his top 25. As we move towards March, we are teaming up with MyBookie, who is offering a special promotion to DBR Podcast listeners! Ep 600#600 - The Dawg Does It Again!

E

The Duke Basketball Roundup has reached 600 total episodes and you know what that means. If it has two zeros on the end, then Kenny "The Dawg" Denard must be a part of it! Jason and Donald are thrilled to welcome Kenny back for more of his recollections of his time at Duke as well as his assessment of the current state of the team and the entire college basketball landscape. And, as a special bonus, Sam Klein joins us as well to celebrate this momentous episode. Our conversation with Kenny includes a never-before-told story about a scandalous "Red Sparrow" trick he used to help Duke win games back in the day. It also takes a more serious turn as we ask Kenny to reflect on his longtime friendship with the recently departed Lefty Dreisell. It is worth noting that this interview was recorded last week, before the game against Wake Forest and the court storming incident that marred the end of that contest. So, if you think this pod avoids talking about the elephant in the room, well... the elephant wasn't even there when this conversation happened. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 599#599 - Great game at Wake ends badly

E

With the outrage over the court storming incident fading a little bit, the Duke Basketball Roundup takes a few moments to look back on the actual game, which was a heck of a battle between the Blue Devils and Wake Forest. Both teams were playing at a high level and no one deserved to lose. Jason and Donald break down all the action on both ends of the floor with special praise for Duke big men Kyle Filipowski and Ryan Young, who were each outstanding in this contest. After the break, the DBR guys have some additional comments on the dangerous court storming at the conclusion of the contest. Have a listen as Jason is outraged at some of the comments by Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes. You may not be surprised to see that this episode carries an "explicit" rating as the DBR Podcast crew have some choice words for the Wake fans and administration. DBR Bites #37 - Flip gets hurt in Wake courtstorming

We’re going to talk about it on DBR Bites #37. The Duke Blue Devils lost to Wake Forest 83-79, but the biggest story is what occurred as the game ended. Wake’s fans stormed the court, hurting Kyle Filipowski in the process. Filipowski got hurt bad enough that he needed to be helped off the court by several members of the Duke team, including Jon Scheyer. We’ve learned he hurt his knee and Jason and Donald are absolutely furious and wanted to spend some time on it. Jason has some serious rules changes that he wants the ACC to implement, while Donald is angry at the fact that Wake let the situation get bad by not preparing for it. Duke road losses almost always result in fans storming the court, and there were no plans in place nor did security do its job of protecting the players and staff of the teams on the court. A full Wake recap will be coming Sunday on Episode 599, but this had to be addressed immediately. There will surely be more thoughts later about how this transpired and what measures need to be taken to ensure that teams remain safe when they’re playing a basketball game. DBR Bites #36 - Road Warrior Weekend

Duke's 3 game road trip takes them about an hour down the road to Wake Forest for what will be one of the toughest games of the season. As the Duke Basketball Roundup crew explains, Wake is a good team on the road but a truly great team at home, raining 3-pointers down on opponents. The Demon Deacons are undefeated in Winston-Salem this season and they are in desperate need of an attention-getting win... and Duke is just the opportunity they want. The DBR Podcast breaks it all down as Duke tries to stay atop the ACC standings and remain in line for a very high seed in the NCAA tournament. After the break, the podcast guys also reveal a shocking statistic about Duke's Mark Mitchell. His poor shooting reputation from early in the season is really starting to fade. Ep 598#598 - Duke cancels all Hurricane warnings in dominant road win

The Duke Blue Devils destroyed the Miami Hurricanes on the road Wednesday night, and Jason and Donald jump on soon after the game to recap all the fun on Episode 598! We are so thrilled with the effort the Blue Devils had that after some very good headlines, we jump right into that. The effort permeated every single facet of the game, from offense to our stellar defense, and it was fun to see. Jason and Donald go back and forth on the good, marveling at how well Duke played individually and collectively. The ball movement was there, the highlight dunks were there, the 3 ball was flying, and we were getting rebounds. After the break, we nitpick to find some things to improve from this performance, but make no mistake, Duke really closed out their Florida road trip with a performance that makes the rest of the nation take notice that the team they thought we were might be starting to announce its presence. Ep 597#597 - Hurricane Warning

A whole lot of folks circled this one on the calendar back when the schedule came out. Duke versus Miami was sure to be a matchup for the top of the ACC as the 'Canes were coming off a Final Four season and returned a whole lot of talent. But things have not worked out as expected for Jim Larranaga's crew and this is now a game against a team struggling to even stay eligible for the NIT. Today's episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup prepares you for the matchup Wednesday night by looking at what has gone wrong so far in Miami's season. The DBR crew also warns that this is not a team to be overlooked... there are no easy road games in the ACC this season, that's for sure! DBR Bites #35 - Heading to Tally

The Duke Blue Devils embark on a 3 game road trip that will go a long way toward determining who will be the #1 seed in the ACC Tournament. It starts in Tallahassee with a matchup against the always tall and deep Florida State Seminoles. After a few seasons of being near the top of the ACC standings, FSU has taken a bit of a step back but they are still a very dangerous opponent. The Duke Basketball Roundup has a breakdown of what FSU does well and where they struggle so you can know what to look for in this important contest. Plus, after the break, the DBR Podcast chats a bit about JJ Redick's new gig at ESPN/ABC as part of the team that will be calling the NBA Finals. Ep 595#595 - Duke Pushes Past Wake Forest

The Duke Blue Devils were able to fight and push past Wake Forest to win 77-69, and Jason and Donald recap everything on Episode 595. Jason’s still in Durham, so we record just a couple of hours after the game, which saw Duke move to 19-5 on the season, 10-3 in the ACC. There was a lot to get to, but after some great headlines, we discuss Jon Scheyer getting Cameron Indoor Stadium lit late in the game and how it spurred a Jeremy Roach 3 to really open things up a bit. We use that to transition into some of the great performances we had on the evening, notably from Mark Mitchell, Kyle Filipowski, and Jared McCain. After the break, we analyze some of the things that made this game frustrating as well and why it was such a struggle to defeat the Demon Deacons. We end with our play of the game and spend some time hearing about Jason’s fun weekend in the Gothic Wonderland. Make sure you’re following us! DBR Bites #34 - A Huge Game Coming Against Wake Forest

The Duke Blue Devils have a crucial matchup coming this evening against Wake Forest, and on DBR Bites 34, we preview the big game. Jason and Donald begin with how strong Wake has been recently, and the metrics show them to be one of the best teams in the country at different categories. They have some balanced scoring and defending, and when they get to the free throw line, they are 2nd in the country at knocking them down. Duke will have their work cut out for them, and it should be a tough game for Duke. But, if they can take care of business on defense, they can win this game. Ep 594#594 - Duke defends Hotel Cameron Indoor against the Eagles

The Duke Blue Devils won the first game of their Saturday-Monday double when they defeated the Boston College Eagles 80-65 yesterday. We recap the victory on Episode 594! Jason and Donald begin with the headlines, which did a great job of describing how Duke played in this game. We start with the good, where we marvel at the performance from Mark Mitchell on both sides of the ball. The interior defense kept BC center Quinten Post at bay. Jared McCain and Jeremy Roach both had great offensive showings and we enjoyed the contributions of Sean Stewart. After the break, we discuss some of the things to improve as we focus on Duke’s recent inability to get to the free throw line in the first half and playing strong around the rim. We end by discussing our play of the game as well as our player of the week. As we move towards March, we are teaming up with MyBookie, who is offering a special promotion to DBR Podcast listeners! DBR Bites #33 - Eagles Coming to Town

Duke continues its trek through the ACC this weekend with a contest in Cameron against Boston College. The Eagles present an interesting test as they are built around a very impressive big man in the versatile Quentin Post. His matchup with Kyle Filipowski will go a long way toward determining whether this is an easy win for Duke or a game where the fans in Cameron are sweating it out. The Duke Basketball Roundup breaks down how BC has done so far on the season and what to watch out for when they come to town. After the break, the DBR guys also dive into the ACC standings with a look at who has the toughest remaining schedules among the top teams in the conference. Ep 593#593 - Knocking Off Notre Dame

Going from North Carolina, at the top of the ACC standings, to Notre Dame, at the bottom of the ACC standings, was quite a change for the Duke Blue Devils... and the result of the game was quite a change too as Duke dispatched the Fighting Irish with relative ease, 71-53. The Duke Basketball Roundup breaks down what went right for Duke and where the Devils were lacking in this contest. This was a game with some real highlights -- and the pod spends several minutes enjoying Sean Stewart's block and slamdunk -- but also one where Duke struggled with shooting and offensive execution. Ep 592#592 - Duke prepares to bring the Fight to the Irish

The Duke Blue Devils look to return to the win column on Wednesday night as they welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to Cameron. On Episode 592, Jason and Donald break down what to expect when the teams take the floor. Notre Dame has really struggled since they last faced Duke in early January. Their offense has been one of the worst in the country, but they pair that with a defense that’s actually played fairly well. We talk through why they have struggled so much on offense and how that’s led to their dismal record. And, we discuss what Duke needs to do to rebound and get the win. It starts and ends with energy, intensity, and fight. After the break, Khaman Maluach is narrowing his list of potential schools, and Duke is one of them. Jason and Donald break down his remaining schedule of official visits and the prospects of him coming to Durham. Finally, Dartmouth’s men’s basketball team has won a key ruling in their quest to officially unionize and become employees of the school. We discuss some of the ramifications for college basketball and how the NCAA once again needs to step up and figure some things out as this progresses. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 591#591 - Devils fail to match Carolina's energy

Let's face it, recapping games where Duke lost is no fun... but when we lose to UNC it is really a tough time. Still, the Duke Basketball Roundup crew soldier through this episode with some dashes of humor and positivity as they break down what happened in Duke's 93-84 loss to the North Carolina Tar Heels. There is plenty of praise for Jared McCain and also some honest assessment of what the team needs to work on. The words "energy" and "effort" come up again and again as Jason and Donald discuss the problems Duke had on this night and the expectations for the rest of the season. Ep 589#589 - Duke-UNC Preview, Part 1: Jay Bilas Prepares Us For Battle!

There’s a big game coming up on Saturday evening. It’s that time. The biggest and best rivalry in college sports takes flight when the Duke Blue Devils head to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. We welcome Jay Bilas to the show on Episode 589 for Part 1 of our preview of the big game! Jay Bilas provides some incredible insight in several areas of this game, first focusing on UNC. He discusses what has made them so successful this season and why they’re such a problem on defense. He talks about the All-American play of RJ Davis and how the UNC offense has operated using him a lot more than he was utilized last year. Bilas provides some excellent context to the big man matchups and who may end up guarding whom when the ball is tipped. If you haven’t watched UNC play this season, Jay really helps you understand what makes their engine go. After the break, we switch our conversation to how Duke is doing and what they need to bring to the table on Saturday to walk out of Chapel Hill with a win. Jay provides some valuable knowledge on what Duke has done right and whether players on the team that received some high expectations may actually be playing at an improved level this year. Of course, we end with Jay’s predictions and even a surprise guest towards the end of our time with him. Jason and Donald then react to Jay’s thoughts as we close out Part 1 of this preview. Look out tomorrow afternoon for Part 2 of our Duke-UNC preview, where we continue to further break down the matchups and discuss what Duke needs to do to win this huge battle for 1st place in the ACC. The Duke Basketball Roundup has been operating with one hand tied behind its back lately because co-host Jason Evans has been on an extended break visiting Antarctica. Well, Jason is back home now and he is back on the podcast to tell all of us about his amazing journey. He has stories about the penguins, whales, and majestic icebergs/glaciers that he saw. Ep 588#588 - Duke Masters The Hokie Pokey

The Duke Blue Devils had a huge victory on the road against Virginia Tech, and JJ Jackson from Locked On Blue Devils returns to the show to help us recap the win on Episode 588! That was a tremendous win for the Blue Devils, and after the headlines, Donald and JJ dive into the many things that Duke did well against the Hokies. They spend time on the excellent defense, including a tremendous block by Ryan Young. They also spend time on the offense, from Young’s production to Jeremy Roach and Tyrese Proctor really putting the Hokies to bed and denying them their bacon. After the break, we spend some time on the things to improve, particularly the uncharacteristic turnovers they had. Still, this was a solid win for the Blue Devils in a place that they normally don’t play well. We end with some talk about the ACC’s chances to get more than 2 teams into the NCAA Tournament. Ep 587#587 - Aussie Ice Cools Clemson

Duke fans can exhale as the Blue Devils defeated the Clemson Tigers 72-71 yesterday in Cameron. We recap that thriller and preview their next game against Virginia Tech on Episode 587. Scott Rich joins Donald to discuss the Clemson win that came down to two ice cold free throws by Tyrese Proctor at the very end. He wasn’t the only person that had good performances. Jared McCain’s 20 points and 3 huge steals was a central focus, and Mark Mitchell once again had a really good game. The team defense was what kept Duke in it and ultimately helped them to the win. We also talk about the struggles in this game, from rebounding to Kyle Filipowski on offense. Overall, the team didn’t make things easy on themselves on offense, but they were able to battle and walk out of Cameron with an important ACC victory. After the break, this is the first Saturday-Monday back-to-back for Duke this season, as they head to Blacksburg to take on the Hokies on Monday night. Duke traditionally does not play well at Cassell Coliseum, and Virginia Tech is one of the best teams in the ACC on offense. Donald and Scott discuss how Virginia Tech is doing this season and overall how they can win on the road, something that has been very hard for ranked teams to do across college basketball this season. Ep 586#586 - Clemson's Coming to Cameron

With the Clemson Tigers coming to town to play the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, Donald is joined by Scott Rich to help preview the game on Episode 586! Clemson started out the season hot, but since the calendar turned to 2024, they have been ice cold. Donald and Scott highlight some of the reasons for Clemson’s struggles in the ACC portion of the schedule and break down what they do well. Clemson will want PJ Hall and Joe Girard to get hot if they want to have a good shot at winning in Cameron. Duke on the other hand wants to take Clemson out of it, and Kyle Filipowski and Mark Mitchell can be X factors in this game. Of course, we discuss what happens if Jeremy Roach comes back and how Duke should adjust if he’s not able to play. After the break, the guys step back and take a look at the season thus far, evaluating Duke’s resume for the NCAA Tournament. We look at how they’re doing in some of the rankings that the tournament committee uses to evaluate teams and you may be surprised at how they compare to Duke’s metrics at this point last season. Finally, Duke Football saw the release of their 2024 schedule, and it seems very balanced. Ep 585#585 - Duke's Aces Enough To Topple Cards

The Duke Blue Devils rebound with an 83-69 victory over the Louisville Cardinals, and we welcome JJ Jackson from the Locked On Blue Devils Podcast to break down the win on Episode 585. Jason’s still off high fiving penguins, so JJ joins Donald to recap the win over Louisville in what had some very good performances and still involved some frustrating moments. Jeremy Roach and Mark Mitchell returned, but Roach injured his ankle in this one and was limited in action as a result. After the incredible headlines we received, they discuss some of the great performances, notably Tyrese Proctor’s career night and Mark Mitchell dominating on both ends of the floor. Kyle Filipowski had a 10-5-5 game with both he and Mitchell having double-doubles as the rebounding margin proved to be clutch. The team closed out the game well, taking Louisville’s best shot and then slowly punching them into submission. After the break, we get to some of the things that need to improve, namely the struggles that Duke had on defense to begin the second half. The tight calls on the perimeter led to more open space for Louisville to work and Duke was frustrated as a result. However, the team got it together and closed the game well. JJ and Donald close out with their plays of the game and they discuss JJ’s time on the podcast and interviewing the legendary Dick Vitale.Make sure you’re following us! Ep 584#584 - Duke sent into Pitt of despair

The Duke Blue Devils lost over the weekend to the Pitt Panthers, and we recap what went wrong on Episode 584. With Jason somewhere in the deep blue sea, Donald welcomes Sam Klein back home to the show to help break down what happened against Pitt. Sam was at the game, so after discussing the headlines and some of the good performances, we dive into the stuff that led to the bad loss against the Panthers. Blake Hinson was hitting everything, but while there was a lot of fight from the Blue Devils, there wasn’t that sharp play throughout the game. Another slow start that is starting to unfortunately become too much of a routine proved to be the difference. After the break, Duke turns around and heads to the Yum! Center on Tuesday to take on the Louisville Cardinals. We preview what to expect in that matchup and how Duke needs to turn it around quickly against the worst team in the ACC and needs to do it with a fast start and consistent energy and intensity. We end the show by congratulating Tara VanDerveer on her 1203rd win as a coach, which passes Coach K for the most all time. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 583#583 - Re-Previewing Pitt Prior to Jason's Drake Passage

The DBR Podcast is back with Episode 583 as Jason and Donald once again get ready to see Duke take on Pitt. Duke will play Pitt for the 2nd time in 11 days on Saturday, and Jason and Donald break down how Pitt has struggled lately, particularly in a home loss to Syracuse last night. Pitt has dropped 24 spots in KenPom and Duke needs to continue to surge early to not give the Panthers any hope. We also have some other news from around Duke Basketball and Football. VJ Edgecombe has decided to go to Baylor, and we give reactions to that news. Kyle Filipowski won a national player of the week award for his incredible week on the floor, and it’s a really cool award that well deserved. After the break, Jaylen Stinson is returning to Duke Football, having removed himself from the transfer portal. It’s really huge news for Manny Diaz on the defensive side of the ball, and it provides him with some leadership as well as someone who will get a huge number of tackles. Jason also discusses his luck in his fake betting pool for ACC games. Finally, Jason will be headed on vacation for the next couple of weeks...to Antarctica! Jason discusses the trip, but it means he will be gone from the show for a couple of weeks. Donald has a plethora of guests lined up to help in Jason’s absence, so continue to tune in. Ep 582#582 - Duke Survives Tech's Second Sting

If you had Ryan Young as a key player getting big minutes against Georgia Tech, raise your hand. The Duke Basketball Roundup gang admits they sure didn't see this coming as Duke needed help from all kinds of unlikely places to survive a very game Yellowjacket club that came to Cameron on Saturday. Kyle Filipowski may have been the headline -- he led Duke is every conceivable statistical category -- but it was unlikely contributions from Young, Tyrese Proctor, and Jaylen Blakes that helped the Blue Devils notch another ACC victory. The DBR Podcast gang wraps it all up, including some comments about whether fans should be up or down after this game. With two starters banged up, it is a good thing Duke has the middle of the week off! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

DBR Bites #31 - Revenge!!

The Blue Devils get their first rematch of the season as Georgia Tech comes to town on Saturday. The first game in Atlanta was arguably the worst performance of the year for Duke as Tyrese Proctor got hurt and Duke struggled to match the energy of a game Yellowjacket squad. But Duke has been a very different club since then, winners of seven games in a row and playing their best basketball of the year. The Duke Basketball Roundup tells you what has changed for Tech since we last saw them and dissects what it will take for Duke to reverse the result of the first game. After the break, we also dive into one of the questions that has been burning up the DBRPodcast inbox... the fate of Christian Reeves. When will we next see him in a Duke uniform? Ep 581#581 - Flip sends Panthers to the Pitts

The Duke Blue Devils pounded the Pitt Panthers last night in what was a super fun game, and Jason and Donald are here to recap everything on Episode 581! The first half was everything you wanted from a Duke team, and after Jason and Donald go through some of the wonderful headlines we received from listeners, we get into all of the good things that happened. We start with the defense, which was incredible, from the rebounding to Duke’s ability to make Pitt take terrible shots. We then shift to the efficient offense, led by Kyle Filipowski’s incredible game and the team’s ridiculous shooting. After the break, we get into some of the things that Duke can improve on, but it’s mainly nitpicky. Make no mistake, this was one of the best displays Duke has had this season, and we beat Pitt so bad, it almost cost us a Quad 1 win! Make sure you’re following us! Ep 580#580 - How to tame the Panthers

Duke has a very winnable, but also easily losable, game on the road Tuesday night against the Pitt Panthers and the Duke Basketball Roundup is here with all you need to know about Duke's next ACC opponent. Pitt has a deep roster that is a nice mix of youthful exuberance and experienced leadership. It is a team filled with plenty of height and length to give Duke trouble too. On this edition of the DBR Podcast, Jason and Donald are joined by former Chronicle Sports Editor Michael Corey for some insights in what it will take to notch another "dub" for the Blue Devils. And, after the break Mike Corey gives us some stories from his time at Duke, including the moment Coach K asked him if he wanted to join the Duke team as a walk-on. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 579#579 - The Mighty Mark Mitchell Helps Duke Dunk Notre Dame

Thanks to Mark Mitchell and Jeremy Roach, the Duke Blue Devils got their first road win of the season, but the Duke Basketball Roundup pulls no punches when talking about this victory over Notre Dame, there were a lot of problems in Duke's play against a team that is widely expected to be at the bottom of the ACC this season. Duke was anemic on offense throughout much of the game and several guys expected to be stars for this team suffered through dismal performances. Still, the emergence of Mitchell as a big offensive threat is a major development for Duke and something to get excited about. Jason and Donald have all the good, the bad, and the ugly from this one in their latest DBR Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 578#578 - Heading North to South Bend

Irish eyes have not been smiling very much this season at Notre Dame. The basketball team has suffered some pretty awful defeats. But, lately they have been showing signs of life, including a really impressive 20+ point beatdown of Virginia just a week ago. So, it will be a suddenly confident Notre Dame club that Duke will face on Saturday in South Bend. The Duke Basketball Roundup is here to tell you all you need to know about the Fighting Irish under new coach Micah Shrewsberry. For this preview, the guys are joined by JJ Jackson of the Locked on Blue Devils podcast. He has seen Notre Dame up close and has several interesting takes on how this matchup should go. Ep 577#577 - Beating the Pulp out of the Orange

The Duke Blue Devils used an impressive second half shooting display to pull away from the Syracuse Orange in the first game of 2024, but the Duke Basketball Roundup crew says the story of this game is the stellar play of Mark Mitchell in the first half. The podcast gang has plenty to say about how MM kept Duke in the game with his energy and athleticism on those aggressive cuts to the basket. It was clearly Mitchell's best half of basketball in his hoops career. And then came the threes... one after another raining down on Syracuse as McCain, Roach, and Proctor got hot. Ep 576#576 - How to Juice the Orange

On Episode 576, Jason is back from the slopes to join Donald as they preview tomorrow’s Duke Blue Devils game against the Syracuse Orange. The Orange have a new coach, as Jim Boeheim has retired and Adrian Autry is now in charge. With that coaching change has come the switch from the 2-3 matchup zone to man-to-man on defense. It also has come with more tempo when they’re defending the ball. Donald and Jason go through the Orange’s metrics, who they’ve played, and which players Duke should pay attention to when they take the floor. After the break, we discuss the tweet from Mark Mitchell’s dad that came in the late hours after the victory over Queens. The tweet caused a lot of confusion among the Duke fanbase, but Donald and Jason are here to take a measured approach on what it means and how Mark Mitchell can get back on track on the offensive end this season, particularly from beyond the arc. Ep 575#575 - Duke snatches the crown from Queens

The Duke Blue Devils take care of business in a big way against the Queens Royals, and we welcome Scott Rich to discuss it on Episode 575! With Jason hitting the snowy slopes of Utah, Scott joins Donald a few minutes after Duke defeats Queens 106-69 to recap the game, from the headlines to the incredible offensive display. Tyrese Proctor made his return to the floor from his ankle injury and performed well off the bench. However, both Donald and Scott were left impressed by how the defense performed and how it fueled the offense. They also marvel at the offensive performances of guys like Jared McCain, whose 24 points was a game high. After the break, we discuss some of the things to improve, nitpicking some items from a blowout victory. We then pick our play of the game and player of the week. Ep 574#574 - How To Decrown Queens

Men’s basketball action restarts this weekend for the Duke Blue Devils, so we preview their upcoming matchup against Queens University on Episode 574. Duke takes on the Queens Royals in Cameron on Saturday, and it’s the first game after the Christmas break for the Blue Devils. It could also be the return of Tyrese Proctor to the floor after his ankle injury. Donald and Jason preview what to expect from the Royals when they take the floor. This is one of the smallest teams in Division 1, and they discuss who to watch out for and how Duke may match up with them on Saturday. After the break, recruiting news is on the front burner as VJ Edgecombe has narrowed his list of schools to Duke, Baylor, and Kentucky. Also, Khaman Maluach has burst onto the scene in a big way and has Duke as a potential landing spot in the Class of 2024. Ep 573#573 - Duke Football wins twice and FSU sues

We’re back after the Christmas holiday to recap a couple of big Duke Football wins as well as the future of the ACC on Episode 573! Duke Football won the Birmingham Bowl 17-10 last Saturday, and Donald and Jason recap the big win for the Blue Devils. Donald was there and gives some insight as to how everything was down in Alabama. Both of them comment on how awesome it was to see the team win and commend Trooper Taylor and the rest of the coaching staff and players for keeping it all together for one last run this season. The conversation shifts to next season, as new head coach Manny Diaz secured his first huge recruiting win with the transfer of Maalik Murphy from the Texas Longhorns to Duke. We marvel at how big of a get that is for Duke Football and what Murphy can bring to Durham next season. After the break, the Florida State Seminoles have officially sued the ACC to get out of the Grant of Rights deal, but not before the ACC sued first to keep them tied to the deal and the exit penalties should they decide to leave the conference. Luckily, Donald is an attorney in his normal life, and he read both of the complaints filed by FSU and the conference. DBR Bites #30 - Don't Overlook Hofstra

One of the better mid-major teams in the country comes to Cameron Tuesday night as the Hofstra Pride arrive in Durham. Make no mistake this is a club capable of giving Duke a real game. We are sure Jon Scheyer and his staff are treating this opponent with respect and the DBR Podcast crew is too, with a breakdown of all the things to watch out for in this contest. Hofstra is a super-experienced team that is full of outstanding shooters. This will be one of the more dangerous backcourts Duke will face and the task of guarding scorer Tyler Thomas, a job that would have fallen to Tyrese Proctor, will be a critical one for the Blue Devils in this game. With Tyrese Proctor still nursing a sprained ankle, Duke needed other guys to step up. DBR Bites #29 - Manny Diaz takes over

The Duke Blue Devils have hired a head football coach (cue the blue smoke!) and Jason and Donald discuss the hire on a special DBR Bites Episode 29. Manny Diaz comes to Duke from Penn State, where he was the defensive coordinator for 2 years. Before that, he was the head coach at Miami. He also had coaching stints at Florida State, NC State, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Texas, and Louisiana Tech. We discuss what Manny Diaz brings to the table, starting with some incredible defenses. Penn State fans are very upset at losing Diaz to Duke, and it seems like players are excited to have him coming to campus. After the break, Donald breaks down some of the concerns for Manny Diaz that he followed closely in his stint as the Miami defensive coordinator and head coach. While he introduced the Turnover Chain, there were some lessons that were hopefully learned from his first head coaching stint. Ep 566#566 - Changes coming against Charlotte

Duke has a big game this weekend, not because of the opponent (though this is a team to be respected) but because we begin to get to see what Duke looks like during the "Proctor is injured" part of the season. It appears Tyrese Proctor may be out for an extended period of time and the Duke Basketball Roundup is here to talk about the changes Duke may make to fill in for the star PG. You may be surprised at the names who they see getting extra playing time. The Podcast gang also break down what to expect from Duke's next opponent, the Charlotte 49ers, a team with some interesting players and that has shown it can play with the big boys. Ep 565#565 - Wrecked down at Georgia Tech

The Duke Blue Devils had another poor showing yesterday against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and we discuss the first ACC loss on Episode 565. Duke lost 72-68 to Georgia Tech in a game that saw Duke fans lament the loss of Tyrese Proctor to an ankle injury early in the game and saw more poor shooting and stagnant offense. Jason Evans was in the building, so Jason and Donald start the discussion with his vantage point before we get into the headlines. There is some good to point out from this game, namely the play of Jeremy Roach as well as how the team once again fought to get back and have a chance to win. We also have some sound from the locker room as Jason was able to capture some of what Jeremy Roach and Jon Scheyer said after the game, and then we get into what went wrong with Duke Men’s Basketball in this game and how home bad patterns have formed on offense and defense. We discuss the Mark Mitchell technical foul that was a pivotal moment in the game, and we take a 30,000 foot view to hopefully ease some concerns that this season is already a wash. Perhaps more importantly, which Duke team will show up and will the players be able to shed these early season doldrums? Ep 562#562 - What to expect when Duke plays Arkansas

They are calling this one of the biggest home games in Arkansas basketball history. That's what happens when Duke comes to town. The Blue Devils will be playing the Razorbacks at Bud Walton Arena on Wednesday night as part of the first-ever ACC-SEC Challenge and the Duke Basketball Roundup is here to give you all you need to know about what to expect. For Arkansas, the biggest question may be the health of their star player Trevon Mark, who went down with a nasty back injury in a game against UNC last week. He's the leader of a deep and very experienced Razorback club that has struggled thus far in big games and probably sees Duke as an opportunity to right the ship and restore their tarnished reputation this season. And, after the break, the podcast guys look ahead to the rest of the Challenge. There are some really interesting games that could show whether some ACC teams are contenders of pretenders this year.
