The path is now known. Duke's journey to reach the college basketball promised land begins in Brooklyn. New York on Friday night against the Vermont Catamounts. We don’t like these episodes, but we have to do it. The ACC Tournament ended in abrupt fashion last night with Duke’s loss to NC State, and Jason and Donald discuss what went wrong on Episode 610. Donald was at the game and after speaking with pride about the many listeners who he met in DC, he and Jason have to discuss the product on the floor and how it was not a great performance. The many headlines we received reflected some of our feelings about the game. There was some good in this game, namely the play of Kyle Filipowski as well as the play of Mark Mitchell. Well, that was no fun. UNC completed a season sweep of the Blue Devils and with it took the ACC regular season title. The Duke Blue Devils went over to Raleigh and, in what could be the best road win of the year, defeated the NC State Wolfpack 79-64. Virginia has been one of the most formidable defensive teams in college basketball for more than a decade. Duke utterly dismantled that defense on Saturday night in Cameron, making it look easy on their way to 40 first half points. Meanwhile, the Duke D was forcing Virginia into bad shot after bad shot and the Cavs weren't hitting hardly any of them. We’re going to talk about it on DBR Bites #37. The Duke Blue Devils lost to Wake Forest 83-79, but the biggest story is what occurred as the game ended. Wake’s fans stormed the court, hurting Kyle Filipowski in the process. Filipowski got hurt bad enough that he needed to be helped off the court by several members of the Duke team, including Jon Scheyer. We’ve learned he hurt his knee and Jason and Donald are absolutely furious and wanted to spend some time on it. Jason has some serious rules changes that he wants the ACC to implement, while Donald is angry at the fact that Wake let the situation get bad by not preparing for it. Duke road losses almost always result in fans storming the court, and there were no plans in place nor did security do its job of protecting the players and staff of the teams on the court. A full Wake recap will be coming Sunday on Episode 599, but this had to be addressed immediately. There will surely be more thoughts later about how this transpired and what measures need to be taken to ensure that teams remain safe when they’re playing a basketball game. Duke fans can exhale as the Blue Devils defeated the Clemson Tigers 72-71 yesterday in Cameron. We recap that thriller and preview their next game against Virginia Tech on Episode 587. Scott Rich joins Donald to discuss the Clemson win that came down to two ice cold free throws by Tyrese Proctor at the very end. He wasn’t the only person that had good performances. The Duke Blue Devils rebound with an 83-69 victory over the Louisville Cardinals, and we welcome JJ Jackson from the Locked On Blue Devils Podcast to break down the win on Episode 585. Jason’s still off high fiving penguins, so JJ joins Donald to recap the win over Louisville in what had some very good performances and still involved some frustrating moments. Jeremy Roach and Mark Mitchell returned, but Roach injured his ankle in this one and was limited in action as a result. We’re back after the Christmas holiday to recap a couple of big Duke Football wins as well as the future of the ACC on Episode 573! Duke Football won the Birmingham Bowl 17-10 last Saturday, and Donald and Jason recap the big win for the Blue Devils. Donald was there and gives some insight as to how everything was down in Alabama. This was a big win... a win Duke needed. The Blue Devils victory over Baylor was a crucial non-conference game for a team that didn't perform as expected over the first month of the season. But Duke has been a whole different animal lately and Baylor bore the brunt of it.
