Ep 536#536 - Revisiting your wild predictions!

The Duke Basketball Roundup is back with Episode 536! On our last episode, Jason and Donald gave some bold Duke Basketball predictions for the upcoming season, and we asked our listeners to give their own wild predictions. And what a response! So many of you chimed in via email and the DBR Forums that we had to discuss some of them on the show. So, Jason and Donald go through some of their favorite bold predictions and grade the odds of them happening. There are some very bold picks and some that we think are more likely to happen than people may believe. After the break, Duke Football has another test this weekend, this time on the road against UConn. UConn has not been great this season, but they will be ready to play Duke, and we preview what Duke needs to do in order to pass their first road test of the season. There’s also a looming matchup next week against Notre Dame, but they can’t look ahead. The team needs to be focused on putting the Huskies in their place first. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 535#535 - Football crushes Northwestern

Three up, three down... Mike Elko and his merry band of bad@*! football players remain undefeated in 2023 thanks to a thorough beatdown of Northwestern (suck it, Big Ten!!). The Duke Basketball Roundup has all the details from the victory starting with words of praise for the defense and ending with swooning over the run game and QB Riley Leonard. After the break, it is time for some basketball content with a couple predictions that may seem unlikely, but could come true in the 2023-24 basketball season -- one about Jaden Schutt and one about the ACC as a conference. And, before we sign out, Jason and Donald talk about which road venue in the ACC seems most interesting to visit as a rival fan. #534 - What Happened at the World Cup?

Today's episode is a potpourri of interesting topics. We begin with some reflections on the solemn day of 9-11. Both Donald and Jason have person connections to the tragic events of that day in 2001. Next, we move to the gridiron news both Duke's thumping Lafayette (a game that was more than a little bit frustrating early on) and a look ahead at the Northwestern Wildcats, a program that seems to be in utter turmoil. After a break, the podcast guys are back to dive into Team USA and their disappointing performance at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, as well as a look ahead at the big name players who seem to want to play in the 2024 Olympics. And the podcast wraps up with word that Fox Sports is thinking about staging a competitor to the NIT postseason tournament. How will that work? Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 533#533 - Expansion is upon us

The Duke Basketball Roundup is finally ready to give their thoughts on ACC expansion on Episode 533! First, Duke Football is back on the menu as we get ready for this weekend’s game against Lafayette. Jason and Donald begin by going back to Monday night’s stomping of Clemson to give one more thing they loved about that game. Donald is still on a high after that one and how they played, while Jason continues to marvel at the defensive side of the ball. Next up for Duke Gang is the Lafayette Leopards, a FCS opponent that isn’t thought to be very good. Still, fans should not take them lightly. Duke will want to get out and play like the ranked team they now are and show that being ranked is not a fluke. After the break, it’s finally time to discuss ACC expansion, which will see Cal, Stanford, and SMU enter the conference next year. Jason and Donald are both on the same page: it’s a complex issue, and there are pros and cons for the conference. Money, prestige, keeping the conference intact, logistics...all are on the table as the expansion talk continues. Make sure you’re following us! The Duke Basketball Roundup is the Duke Football Roundup in this emergency Episode 532! Duke Football takes down Clemson 28-7 on Labor Day night before a raucous Wallace Wade Stadium and a national TV audience, and Sam, Jason, and Donald jump on as the students rush the field to discuss it all! We first talk about how historic a win this was for Duke and just how happy we are at how they played. It wasn’t a perfect win for Duke, and we quickly discuss that, but come on now...we’re having fun with this one! We talk about our favorite plays and performances, what this means for Duke moving forward, and we even compare it to other big wins in Duke Football history. Listen and feel the joy!! Ep 531#531 - Preparing for the Duke Football opener

The Duke Basketball Roundup is back with Episode 531, with Jason and Donald getting us ready for the start of Duke Blue Devils Football. We start with some comments on the tragedy that occurred at UNC on Monday. Our hearts are with the family and friends of the faculty member who was killed. UNC may be our rivals on the court or field, but they are our neighbors, co-workers, friends and family in the game of life, and we stand with them. We also wanted to announce that we have moved the show to a new network: Fans First Sports Network! We’re hoping this move will be a beneficial one as we reunite with several podcasts from the SB Nation Podcast era, and we’re excited about all the possibilities! We get into Duke Football, as they host the Clemson Tigers in a huge game to open up the season on Monday night. We discuss what makes Clemson really good and why Duke has a better chance than most think of pulling off the upset and otherwise turning some heads with their play. After the break, The Brotherhood Podcast had a great episode featuring the freshman class for Duke Basketball. We marvel at how tight knit the players are and how they seem to really enjoy being around each other. It’s a fun interview done by Ryan Young, so check it out! Finally, we give Johnny Dawkins and Coach K their flowers, as they are both inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame. We reflect on their career and how it’s awesome that the two of them get to enter the Hall together. Make sure you’re following us! Ep 529#529 -Part 2 of our conversation with Ryan Young

If you missed part 1 of the Duke Basketball Roundup's chat with Duke big man Ryan Young, go listen to that before you tackle this one (https://dukeroundup.podbean.com/e/528-inside-duke-hoops-with-ryan-young-part-1/). Ok, now that you have heard part 1, be ready for some really juicy stuff in part 2. We get the lowdown on the teambuilding weekend in Chicago and what caused the NCAA to cancel Duke's special NIL scrimmage that was going to put thousands of dollars in the pocket of the Duke players. Ryan also tells us a bit about how NIL programs work at Duke, peeling back the curtain at least a little bit on an area where we rarely get much concrete information. Finally, we ask Ryan to tell us his favorite Coach Scheyer story... and it includes massive spoilers for one of the greatest movies of all time. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 527#527 - NIL Event Cancelled & a New Assistant Coach

The news was coming fast and furious on this Thursday, so the Duke Basketball Roundup team sat down to bring you all we have heard about the two breaking stories. First up, the big NIL event Duke was scheduled to hold in Chicago this weekend, an event that was going to bring in more than $100,000 for Duke's players, has been cancelled by the NCAA. While details are sketchy, the DBR podcast gang has speculation about why the NCAA squashed this fun fan event. After the break, the podcast also dives into the newest addition to Jon Scheyer's staff, Emanuel Dildy. He's deeply experienced and really respected in recruiting circles. We discuss what it means that Scheyer is again going outside of the Duke family to find help on the bench. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 526#526 - Scrimmage video and non-conference schedule set

The Duke social media team has been hard at work lately and their latest offering is 10-minutes of highly edited video of a scrimmage from a recent practice. It is tough to read too much from these videos where 95% of the missed shots and turnovers are hidden from view, but the DBR Podcast gang gives it a shot. But, before that happens, the guys have to talk about Baylor officially being added to the non-conference schedule. There are 4 big time games on the schedule now. Is that the right number? Ep 525#525 - Spying on Media Day

The Duke Basketball Roundup was in the house as Duke revealed a little bit of itself to the media this week. We heard from Flip, Ryan, Mark, and Jeremy... as well as from Coach Scheyer. And, as an added bonus, we got to watch as the team ran through some drills. Among the biggest takeaways, we really like the way Jai Lucas coaches these guys. Plus, after the break we talk a bit about the ACC's new broadcast deal with the CW Network. It may seem small time, but this could be an important step in the conference keeping up with the rest of the P5 conferences. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 524#524 - Will Avery returns and Peach Jam highlights

The Duke Basketball Roundup celebrates the newest member of the Duke coaching staff, former player Will Avery. We have been talking about Will working hard the past several years to finish up his Duke undergrad degree and he is now using that degree to teach basketball to the Duke team. The DBR podcast gang breaks down Will's unlikely path back to Durham and what he brings to the table as an assistant coach. And, after the break, we do a deep dive into what happened at the elite EYBL Peach Jam this weekend. Future Dukies Isaiah Evans and Darren Harris both led their teams in impressive fashion, boosting their "recruiting stock" in the process. But everyone was talking about class of 2025 recruits Cameron and Cayden Boozer and Cooper Flagg. The podcast's Jason Evans watched numerous games over the weekend and has plenty to tell us about these guys who we (hope) to someday see in a Duke uniform. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 521#521 - NBA Draft and Goodbye to Amile

The Duke Basketball Roundup has a slew of stuff for you on this day. After the intros (in which we debate a huge travel decision facing Jason) the guys dive right in to the NBA Draft. They look at where Dereck Lively and Dariq Whitehead ended up and if those teams need them now or will bring the newest Dukies in the NBA along slowly. After a commercial break, the podcast gang laments the departure of Amile Jefferson, headed from the Duke bench to the NBA's Boston Celtics, and they take some guesses at who might be the next assistant coach in Durham. Lastly, Paolo Banchero has been added to the USA Basketball roster for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, a move that no one saw coming because Paolo had indicated he planned to play for Italy instead. Ep 519#519 - NBA Draft Preview - Part 1

ESPN draft analyst and Duke legend Jay Bilas joins the Duke Basketball Roundup for a pair of episodes to look at the draft prospects of a pair of Dukies this year. In part 1, Jay talks to us about Dariq Whitehead and how he can stand out among a whole lot of mid-sized wings who are hoping to go in the middle of the first round of the NBA draft on Thursday. And while we have Jay joining us, we could not resist talking about the decisions by Flip, Proctor, Mitchell, and Roach to reject the siren song of the NBA and come back to Duke for another season. Jay breaks down what went into those decisions and what it means for Duke going forward. By the way, there will be more Bilas coming to your podcast feed very soon. Later this week, he will join the DBR podcast team to break down Dereck Lively's draft prospects and also talk about the huge hype happening around Victor Wembanyama. Ep 518#518 - The Best Sophomores in Duke History

Wojo got a job, Duke is targeting a new big man in the high school ranks, but the main topic on this episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup is sophomores. Next year, Duke will be counting on 3 sophs (Flip, Mitchell, and Proctor) to help lead the team to the promised land of another Final Four (or Natty?!?!). The notion of stud sophomores is not something Duke fans have seen very often in the one-and-done era. So, the DBR Podcast's Jason Evans went back over the history books to find the 10 best Sophomore Seasons in Duke history (since the mid-1970s). It is a list full of great memories and the podcast gang knows you all will enjoy it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 514#514 - New Dukie, Roach’s Decision, Portal Prospects, and NBA News

The Duke roster got a new addition with Stanford transfer Neil Begovich and while he projects as a practice player, his transfer presents a golden opportunity for the Duke Basketball Roundup gang to chat about Duke's amazing success at holding onto players this off-season. With the portal window due to close in only hours, Duke has not lost a single player to the rush to find greener pastures. The DBR Podcast guys also dive into the decision facing Jeremy Roach. He didn't get invited to any of the NBA combines. Does that mean his only real choice is to return to Durham? And, after the break, the guys give us quick hits on a bunch of Duke topics including JJ Redick eyeing a NBA coaching gig and some of the strange transfer decisions hitting other ACC teams this off-season. Ep 513#513 - Big-man Target and a Shameful Score

The Duke Basketball Roundup dives into the latest big man in the portal getting interest from Jon Scheyer and his staff. His name is Aziz Badaogo and he was a shot-blocking machine last season at Utah Valley. We discuss how he would fit on the 2023-24 Blue Devils and why Duke might interest this young man from Senagal. After the break, the podcast crew does something unusual... they are critical and disappointed in the Duke basketball team. The NCAA has released its latest Academic Progress Report and Duke hoops scored embarrassingly low. The DBR guys dove into the numbers and they think they know exactly what went wrong and when it happened. Have a listen and let us know if you agree. Write to us at DBRPodcast at gmail dot com. Ep 512#512 - Catching up on recruiting!

We are back! It’s been a couple of weeks where due to work and travel we couldn’t get together, but now we have some things to talk about. Sam, Jason, and Donald are here to bring it to you on Episode 512! Duke lands a top 10 recruit in the Class of 2024 in Isaiah Evans, and we begin by discussing what he brings to the table. There’s a reason people call him Baby Ingram. We then use that to enter a discussion about Cooper Flagg and the potential for him to reclassify into the Class of 2024 to join Evans and Darren Harris. Next, the transfer portal seemed to be hot, with Duke considering several big men a couple weeks ago. Now, it seems the market has cooled off a bit, with Duke not landing anyone yet. We discuss whether that’s a good thing and if Duke feels confident about the players already on the roster. After the break, we get into the 2023-24 schedule, and Duke appears to be foregoing some of the more traditional early season tournaments to set up a multi-team event of their own. Except, this one would feature LaSalle, Bucknell, and Southern Indiana. We discuss the fact that while these teams are not going to excite any Duke fans, it could be part of filling out a non-conference schedule that will have some very big opponents. Finally, we take a few minutes to celebrate the life of Dick Groat, who passed away last Thursday at age 92. He was a legend in two sports, and is revered not just at Duke, but at Linktree! Ep 511#511 - Flipping out over Flip and Mgbye-bye

Wow, one of the biggest news hours in Duke history this morning as Kyle Filipowski announced he is running it back for his sophomore season at Duke and then, minutes later, superstar recruit Mackenzie Mgbako said he would be looking for a different school and not coming to Duke. The Duke Basketball Roundup podcast gang is here to break down all of it. First, they talk about Flip's return, an almost unprecedented thing for Duke as a player eschewed being a first round draft pick so he could come back to school. The podcast looks at historical comparisons for what Duke will return next season and also discusses how Flip can evolve his game this summer to be even better next season. After the break the guys do a deep dive into Mgbako's decision to go elsewhere. There are no hard feelings here as it just looks like the Duke roster may not have been a good fit for what MM wanted or needed from a college program. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 510#510 - Roach’s Future

Jeremy Roach is entering the NBA draft... but is he staying there? The Duke Basketball Roundup has plenty of thoughts and opinions on the decision facing Duke's captain. Should he stay or should he go? And, regardless of what he chooses, how will it impact other Dukies we expect to be on the roster in the 2023-24 season? After the break, the guys come back with a conversation about the Nike Hoop Summit. Three future Dukies were in action and, for the first time, we got to see a glimpse of how good Mackenzie Mgbako can be. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 509#509 - Dereck Lively departs for NBA...replacement incoming?

Hello Duke fans and welcome to the Duke Basketball...Roundup? YES! With the calendar moving to April, it’s official...we are the Duke Basketball Roundup Podcast! We spend a couple of minutes going through the new name and some of the changes that are forthcoming to the show over the next week as we move to our new home on Podbean. The main highlight of the show isn’t us however...it’s the announcement that Dereck Lively has decided to depart Duke for the NBA Draft. Jason, Sam, and Donald reflect on the year that D-Live had for the Blue Devils and how they think he will carve out a terrific NBA career. We will always have 8 blocks against UNC, and his defense and motor are going to be something that teams really want in a 5 at the next level. After the break, with Dereck Lively leaving, Duke is looking at the transfer portal. There are 4 big men out there that are looking at new homes that Duke has either contacted or fans are loosely linking to Duke, and we go through those players and what they bring to the table. In the end, while none of them have Lively’s qualities, Duke is right to try and add them to a team that is looking like one of the best in the country to start the 2023-24 season. We have a new Twitter account! Find us on there @DukeRoundup. DBR Bites #23 - Mitchell Year 2 loading!

On DBR Bites Episode 23, we have Donald and Sam react to the news that Duke forward Mark Mitchell is returning to Durham for his sophomore season! We discuss how valuable Mitchell’s return will be to this team and what he can improve on in year 2. His return is giving potential DPOY vibes! We also comment on where he can improve on offense, and how his leadership and motor could serve the incoming freshman class well. Needless to say, we’re excited about Mark Mitchell’s return! We also get some late breaking news while we’re recording that Kyle Filipowski has won the Kyle Macy Award, an award given to the nation’s top freshman. Flip wins the award over Alabama’s Brandon Miller. It’s a surprise award, but Flip deserves it and we react in real time to him winning this prestigious award. He’s the 5th Blue Devil to win the award, joining Jabari Parker, Brandon Ingram, Marvin Bagley III, and Zion Williamson. Ep 508#508 - Whitehead chooses NBA, McDonald’s All Americans on the menu

We have our first departure to the NBA Draft, and we discuss it on Episode 508. Dariq Whitehead is leaving Duke for the NBA, and we are not surprised given his draft prognosis falling somewhere in the mid-to-late first round. We discuss what he brought to the table and where he could fit at the next level. There’s a nice discussion about the Dariq Whitehead that was expected when he arrived on Duke’s campus as well as how he evolved with the injuries he suffered in the preseason and during the regular season. We’re all in agreement that his workouts will determine where he ends up in the draft. After the break, we discuss the McDonald’s All American games that took place last night in Houston. Duke had 3 recruits in the Boys Game - Sean Stewart, Jared McCain, and Mackenzie Mgbako - and Jadyn Donovan in the Girls Game. We break down how each of them did, and we’re pretty convinced: the future is bright for both Duke Men’s and Women’s Basketball. #507 - Proctor returns

On this episode of the soon-to-be-renamed and now vaguely pre-rebranded Duke Basketball Report Podcast, we're talking Tyrese Proctor's return to Duke for his sophomore campaign, Celeste Taylor's news about the same, and Duke recruits' performance in the skills events at the McDonald's All American Game festivities on Monday. Proctor announced his return with a quick social media post, and Jason and Sam are giddy, not just because they correctly predicted that Proctor would return, but because Proctor could be the latest Duke guard to show significant improvement in his second year, with recent examples like Tre Jones, Luke Kennard, and Grayson Allen for him to look up to. Jason tells us how much these guys improved after their move to West Campus, and we speculate about the ways that Proctor will distinguish himself with a full summer working with the staff and team in Durham. After the break, we dive into Celeste Taylor's decision to return to Duke for one last season, and we finish with Jared McCain's performance in the three-point contest and Sean Stewart's in the dunk contest, both of which were winning displays. Duke fans have a lot to look forward to this fall when the team returns. We'll be back to talk further NBA Draft and high all-star circuit news. Stay in touch like always at dbrpodcast at gmail.com! #506 - Who Stays & Who Goes - Part 2

If you missed the last episode of the Duke Basketball Report podcast, go back to #505 right now and listen to it. Only once you have heard the podcast crew break down the stay or portal or NBA decisions of the perimeter players on the Duke team are you allowed to listen to episode #506 in which they do a deep dive on the big men. Kyle Filipowski, Mark Mitchel, Dereck Lively, and Christian Reeves all face decisions that could make or break Duke's future. The podcast gang even takes a few minutes to look at what the future holds for the one big man who has made his intentions known, 6th year senior Ryan Young. As with the last episode, the pod gang gives you their predictions on what each player WILL do and what they SHOULD do, and the answers are not always one and the same. #505 - Who Stays & Who Goes - Part 1

Wondering whether the NBA or the transfer portal is going to come calling for your favorite 2022-23 Dukie? Well, the DBR Podcast is here with all the answers. On this episode, Jason, Donald, and Sam will do a deep dive into the guards and wings -- Tyrese Proctor, Jeremy Roach, Dariq Whitehead, Jalen Blakes, and Jaeden Schutt. #504 - Stats game recap

We're all still reeling from the abrupt end to Duke's season in the first weekend of the tournament, but as is tradition on the DBR Podcast, we are back today to recap the stats game, our special way of previewing the season. You will have to listen to find out who won, but it was not a pretty thing. It turns that Duke's season took many different turns than what we anticipated, from the good (Kyle Filipowski 2nd team All-ACC! Tyrese Proctor's emergence!) to the new as good (mostly injuries and Jacob Grandison not hitting his threes). All that said, though, we are holding ourselves accountable to our picks, at least the ones that were easy enough to track. After the break, we review what happened in the second round of the women's NCAA tournament, where Duke lost a heartbreaker in Cameron to Colorado. Similar to the men, it's a frustrating way to end the season, but also similar to the men, the future appears to be bright, so we eagerly await the return of Duke Basketball this fall. Stay in touch with us throughout the offseason as Duke players make their decisions for next year, and we will be back soon. Learn more about your ad choices. #503 - The end of Scheyer’s first season

It's certainly not the most fun mostly annual tradition, but the podcast is back to talk about Duke's loss to Tennessee on Saturday, a loss that ends Jon Scheyer's first season in the head coaching role. We dive deep into how the Volunteers dismantled Duke on defense. The Blue Devils had their lowest first half scoring output of the season, and without Mark Mitchell, Duke didn't have enough playmakers to counter Tennessee's attack at either end. Turnovers returned to plague Duke in a way we thought Scheyer's squad had shored up given their performance in the first round. All that said, we have to spend a few minutes on the officiating, which most of us were not thrilled with. It was an overly physical game, and Duke couldn't figure out how to overcome the circumstances. After the break, we have to touch on Duke Blue Planet's feature video on Dereck Lively II and his mother and on Purdue's loss to Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round of the tournament. We'll be back on a future episode to recap the season and speculate about all of the players' pending NBA draft decisions, but until then, stay in touch with us via email and we will talk to you again very soon. DBR Bites #22 - We Volunteer this preview

The Duke Blue Devils are in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament, and on DBR Bites Episode 22, we preview their upcoming game against the Tennessee Volunteers. Duke is riding high off its victory over Oral Roberts, but they are meeting a team that has been great defensively all season. Jason gives us the metrics on what Tennessee has been doing great and where they may have weaknesses. They are missing their star point guard, but they have plenty of reasons why they are still a really good team. After he takes off, Sam and Donald continue the preview by highlighting Tennessee's season and how they've struggled in recent weeks. Sam discusses some of the other key players and gives us a warm bath on Rick Barnes and the most recent times Duke has taken on Barnes-led teams. We will be back at some point after the game on Saturday, which is at approximately 2:40pm ET. Let's go Duke! Learn more about your ad choices. #502 - Making easy work of Oral Roberts

The NCAA Tournament began yesterday, and the Duke Blue Devils starred in a big victory over Oral Roberts. We recap everything on Episode 502! After some of the great headlines we received, we get into the good. Duke had a ton of good in this game, beginning with the defense. We spend about 10 minutes discussing how great the defense was in this game and how some players who may have had off days on offense excelled on the defensive end for the Blue Devils. Oh don’t worry, we discuss the offense as well, with Jeremy Roach destroying everyone and Dariq Whitehead raining 3s. Duke was tremendous on the night and it led to it being a very relaxing evening for fans. We do pinpoint a couple of items that Duke could improve on as they advance in the tournament. After the break, we dish out our favorite plays, and there were plenty to choose from. Then, we have to talk about a couple of the major upsets from Day 1, including Furman over Virginia and Princeton over Arizona. We will be back in your feeds literally this afternoon! We have another game tomorrow against the Tennessee Volunteers, and we will preview what to expect in a Bites episode, so stay tuned! Learn more about your ad choices. #501 - How to beat Oral Roberts

The Blue Devils dive into the big dance tomorrow night with a matchup against a very good Oral Roberts club. The DBR Podcast team went deep into the stats and the videotape to figure out what has allowed ORU to win every game they have played since early January. And at the core of this analysis is two players -- scoring guard Max Abmas, a three-point specialist, and 7-5 Connor Vanover, who's game is different from pretty much any man-mountain you have ever seen. The podcast crew looks at how Oral Roberts has done against other quality competition and what the matchups will look like when they play Duke. Anyone who thinks this game will be easy is fooling themselves. After the break, the podcast guys talk about something that has changed about Duke lately -- their pace of play. They explain why slowing things down has led to better results. And, before they guys are done with the edition of the most popular Duke podcast around, they also lay out the path for the Duke Devil women as they embark on their own road to the Final Four. DBR Bites #21 - Bracket Busting with Booz!

The DBR Podcast is excited for the NCAA Tournament, and on Bites Episode 21, we welcome back Duke great and current ACC Network analyst Carlos Boozer to discuss the NCAA Tournament! Boozer has seen more ACC basketball than just about anyone, so we discuss the teams that made the NCAA Tournament and why they collectively have a chance to once again show that the conference deserves more respect than it’s getting. We of course talk about how far Duke can go and the key to success for the Blue Devils. We then discuss his partnership with the DraftKings Zero Right Bracket Challenge presented by Pepsi Zero Sugar, where picking the wrong teams could get you some serious cash! Most of us are already picking the wrong teams in the bracket, and in this bracket those same wrong picks can make you a winner. We also touch a bit on Boozer’s thoughts on Jon Scheyer and the job he’s done for Duke this year. Boozer is also the proud father of two twins - Cameron and Cayden - who are two of the best high school sophomores in the country. He talks to us about what it’s been like to witness their recruiting frenzy and how they may decide on where they end up going to college. We end our time with Boozer by asking for his Final Four picks and his champion, then react to Boozer’s interview and give our favorite moments. The DBR Podcast will be back tomorrow evening to preview our opening game in the NCAA Tournament against Oral Roberts. Get those brackets in! Learn more about your ad choices. #500 - Kenny Dennard returns!!

We have reached the 500th episode of the DBR Podcast, and we’re so happy to welcome back Kenny Dennard to the show! The Dog is a beloved friend of the podcast and has featured on episodes 100, 200, 300, and 400, so it makes sense to bring him back on for this one. We have a nice discussion with Kenny about this year’s Duke Blue Devils team, which is a 5 seed in the East Regional and one of the popular picks to get to at least the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament. We talk about what has worked well for the Blue Devils lately and the Dog gives us his bracket picks. We also get to reflect on this year’s team and the job Jon Scheyer has done in his first season as head coach. Kenny also gives some insight on what it’s like for a team that has big expectations to try and fight it out in the NIT after a season that didn’t go to plan. We love having Kenny Dennard on, and we thank all of you for being a part of 500 full episodes of the DBR Podcast. We will be back in your feeds real soon with more content this week, so stay tuned! #499 - NCAA Tournament, here we come!

The field has been revealed. The Duke Blue Devils find themselves criminally under-seeded as the #5 seed in the East Region, which is loaded with strong teams. But, the DBR Podcast crew is undaunted and actually thinks the Devils got a pretty good bracket, one that could easily end up with Duke cutting down nets and moving on to the Final Four. That notion seemed pretty far-fetched just a couple weeks ago, but with a team that seems to be peaking at just the right moment, there is plenty to be excited about. The Podcast gang also looks at other ACC teams and the opponents they will face as the conference again tries to put on an impressive showing to prove the pundits wrong about the strength of the league. After the break, the Pod has more to say about Duke's victory in the ACC Tournament, including some interesting tidbits about the players from Duke who made it onto the All-Tournament team. DBR Bites #20 - ACC Champs!

We are the champions! The Duke Basketball Report podcast is here to celebrate Jon Scheyer's first banner as head coach of the Blue Devils as Duke throttles Virginia and wins an ACC Tournament title in Scheyer's first season. The podcast crew, broadcasting for the first time from a swanky swimming pool, begin with lots of praise for the lockdown Duke defense that kept Virginia from getting any easy shots and scared the Cavs into one of the their worst offensive performances of the year. But, Duke's victory was more than just that stifling defense, led by Dereck Lively. On the other end of the floor, Kyle Filipowski and Jeremy Roach combined to almost outscore the Cavaliers all by themselves as they each showed that even one of the best defensive teams in the nation will struggle to find ways to stop Duke's offensive aces. With the NCAA selection show less than 24 hours away, Duke has made a statement and no one wants to see the Devils in their portion of the bracket. Learn more about your ad choices. DBR Bites #19 - Back in the ACC Final

On this episode of DBR Bites, we mess around with the definition of DBR Bites by going 30+ minutes, doing a full game recap, and still calling it Bites. We promise, though, it is for a good reason, because as we approach episode #500 of the DBR Podcast, we have our favorite repeat guest returning and we need to work around that schedule and Selection Sunday. So, Duke takes down Miami on this episode, and we are excited to talk about Duke's emergence on offense. It was a parade of three-pointers, free throws, assists, and huge rebounding that send Duke into the final. Miami gave Duke a ton to deal with on defense, but Duke responded in a way we have come to expect from this suddenly mature team. The Blue Devils face Virginia in the final tonight, with one more revenge opportunity from February lingering before their seeding is solidified. We'll be back to discuss the outcome of Jon Scheyer's first ACC championship game as head coach soon after it's over. Keep those headlines and reactions coming to dbrpodcast at gmail.com! #498 - Pitt Pounded into Submission

Well, that was fun! The Duke Basketball Report podcast crew is here for a recap of what was almost certainly Duke's best game of the year. Ridiculous shooting combined with stifling defense to allow the Blue Devils to run the Pitt Panthers out of the building. This one was a laugher that was effectively over for almost the entire second half. The podcast gives you a dose of all of it, from the highs of Flip draining threes to the lows of Schutt missing his long-range attempts and everything in between. The podcast says the guy who probably deserves the most praise from this game is Tyreese Proctor, who put up 10 assists and was the key part of continually setting his teammates up for quality looks at the basket. Duke's D has been consistently good lately so when Duke plays offense like this, the opposition is in for a tough time. The pod crew has a good time with the recap and they prepare you for what comes next, a rematch with the Miami Hurricanes. Learn more about your ad choices. DBR Bites 18 - It’s ACC Tournament time!

It’s time for the ACC Tournament! The DBR Podcast crew is here with Bites Episode 18 as they preview the tournament in Greensboro. The Duke Blue Devils may enter the tournament as the 4 seed, but they are arguably the tournament favorites, as they are playing their best basketball of the season. As they wait for the winner of the Pitt Panthers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, we discuss Duke’s potential path to an ACC title and what they will need to do in order to cut down the nets in Greensboro. We also look at the rest of the bracket and determine what some teams will need in order to get a place in the NCAA Tournament when it’s revealed on Sunday. We also quickly give kudos to Jon Scheyer for being a Joe B. Hall Award finalist. The award is given to a coach in his first season, and while we don’t think Jon will win it, he absolutely deserves to be a finalist. Also, we give congrats to Daniel Jones for his $160M contract extension with the New York Giants...Danny Dimes now is Danny Dollars!! #497 - All-ACC awards

On this episode of the Duke Basketball Report Podcast masquerading as a DBR Bites, we run you through the All-ACC awards as announced by the ACC on Monday, following the conclusion of the regular season this past weekend. Kyle Filipowski is the headliner for Duke, capturing Duke's fourth rookie of the year award in a six-year span. Dereck Lively II also got two nods, one for the all-defense team and the all-rookie team. Tyrese Proctor gets an all-rookie team mention, and we have a bit of quibbling to do with Jeremy Roach getting votes for most improved player and player of the year. Our biggest annoyance is that Jon Scheyer got no love for coach of the year, a travesty we explore in more depth than it probably needed. The podcast will return this week to preview Duke's potential path to an ACC championship, but until then, stay in touch with the show at dbrpodcast at gmail.com, and we will return soon. It's March! #496 - Season Sweep of the Heels

How sweet it is! Duke knocks back the UNC Tarheels by a score of 62-57, almost identical to the score of their first game in Cameron. The Devils are proving to be masters at winning these low-scoring affairs. This time, it was Kyle Filipowski on offense and a stellar team defensive effort led by Dereck Lively that proved to be too much for our bitter rivals to withstand. The Duke Basketball Report podcast crew chimes in with their analysis of what worked for Duke in Chapel Hill and also the moments that made them nervous. Podcast co-host Donald Wine was in the Dean Dome for the game and gives us some stories of how Jon Scheyer and Hubert Davis handled the post-game news conferences. The Devils march on to the ACC tournament with a whole lot of confidence and a season-high 6-game winning streak... and the podcast is there with them, every step of the way. #495 - Another Year of Young and Another Carolina Clash

The DBR Podcast always treats the Carolina game with the respect it deserves, doing a deep dive on where the Tarheels are now and what it will take to beat them. But this Carolina preview episode has even more. The guys start by discussing the news that Ryan Young has announced he plans to return to Durham for one more year in a Duke uniform. They say this is big news as Young provides fierce rebounding, tremendous scoring ability around the bucket, and a much needed dose of experience and leadership to next year's Duke team. Up next, the podcast crew talks about all the seeding possibilities for Duke in the ACC Tourney. The Blue Devils could be anywhere from a #2 to the #5 seed. And step one toward getting a high seed is knocking off the hated Tarheels. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. #494 - Physical Duke clinches perfect Cameron record

The Duke Blue Devils closed out a perfect 16-0 record at Cameron Indoor Stadium Tuesday night when they beat NC State 71-67. The DBR Podcast crew jumps on soon after the game to recap everything with Episode 494. Donald was in the building, and he starts by giving his take on some of the Senior Night festivities that occurred. Cameron was at full tilt, and the passion was just as palpable as the physicality in this game. We go through some of the headlines and then get to the good from this game, featuring Jeremy Roach’s performance, Dereck Lively and Kyle Filipowski having tremendous effort on defense and on the glass, and Tyrese Proctor locking down Terquavion Smith. The game was physical, and Donald highlights just how tough this young group played. After the break, we get into what didn’t go well for the Blue Devils in this one, from some shooting woes to a tough night moving the ball around in the offense. We close with our favorite plays, and while we don’t look ahead to that team we will face this weekend, we have a thing about hot streaks and Duke can add to one before the end of the regular season.
