Empire co-star Jussie Smollett is out of jail while attorneys appeal his conviction for lying to police about a hate crime attack against him. Smollett began serving his 150 day sentence, but just days later the actor was released. Smollett’s attorneys arguing that he would complete the sentence by the time the process was completed. They also cited homophobic threats received by the actor in their request for emergency release. The special prosecutor responded to the motion by saying it was “factually incorrect.” Two of the three members of the appellate court agreed with Smollett’s attorneys. Pamela Conyers spent the night of Oct 16, in typical teenager fashion. She went to the Friday night homecoming bonfire and pep rally at Glen Burnie High School. Afterward, her mother gave her 5 dollars and the keys to the family car to run to a nearby mall to pick up shoe dye. Conyers never made it home. Just days later, a man reports to police, that he found a 1966 Dodge in an overgrown field about 100 yards off the road. It was the car Conyers was driving. Her body is found about 300 yards from the car. Conyers was lying on her side, wearing slacks and a pullover sweater, that had been turned inside out. Her underwear, her purse and the car keys are missing. Four detectives are assigned to Pamela Conyers' case full-time. More than 200 leads are checked out. 25 suspects, were picked up interrogated and then released after their alibis checked out. Clothing, dirt and soil samples vacuumed from the car were sent to the FBI crime laboratory in Washington for analysis. No leads are generated and the case goes cold. Tiffany Valiante, 18, has graduated high school and is on her way to Mercy College in New York. Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall, Valiante is a star athlete, earning a volleyball scholarship. On July 12, 2015, Valiante left her cousin's graduation party. A few hours later, the family learns Valiante has been struck and killed by a train traveling 80mph in a secluded, wooded area just four miles from her home. The death is ruled a suicide by the medical examiner. Valiante's family is fighting that ruling over many issues. First and foremost, Valiante had an intense fear of the dark, meaning there was no way she would walk more than four miles in the dark. Two murders, weeks apart. Teen cheerleader Amie Hoffman vanished after leaving her part-time job. Two days later, her body is found floating in a retention tank at a local reservoir. Hoffman has been sex assaulted and stabbed repeatedly. Twelve days later 25-year-old Deirdre O’Brien, 25, bangs on a truck driver’s door at a desolate rest stop pleading for help. She also has been stabbed. Before O’Brien dies, she describes her attacker as tall and slender with bushy hair and some facial hair. No arrest is immediately made, but the next year, 1983, a break in the case surfaces. James Koedatich calls police, describing his escape from an attacker, who stabbed him. As emergency responders take Koedatich out on a stretcher, a responding officer sees a car that matches descriptions of a vehicle spotted at the mall the night of Hoffman's disappearance and at the rest stop where O’Brien is attacked. The next day, Koedatich is named a suspect in the cases. Casey White, the Alabama inmate freed by corrections officer Vicky White, reached a plea deal in connection with his escape. White pleaded guilty to first-degree escape in exchange for no prosecution for felony murder, meaning he will not be tried for his lover’s death. Jailer Vicky White commits suicide as cops close in on her and fellow fugitive Casey White. Authorities tracked down the Alabama outlaws to a motel in Evansville, Indiana. The pair attempted to flee when they realized police had found them, which led to a chase. A released 911 call appears to contain the last words of Vicky White. As sirens screech in the background, a woman’s voice says, "Airbags are going off! Let’s get out and run! We never should have left the hotel." Dashcam video also reveals that when the vehicle rolled over, police could see that Vicky was holding a gun to her head. “She still has the gun in her hands,” one officer says in the video, “Finger’s on the trigger.” Vicky White was hospitalized and died hours later. Casey White was extradited back to Alabama, where he has been charged with MURDER. He is already facing capital murder charges in connection with the death of Connie Ridgeway in 2015. Ten women have come forward accusing a Denver cardiologist of rape. Stephen Matthews, 35, was first charged with drugging and raping a woman he met on the dating app "Hinge." Matthews was later charged again as the nine additional victims revealed similar stories. Matthews is facing 16 felony counts. Three of the cases allege that Matthews drugged and subsequently raped the “helpless” victim. The remaining seven cases allege that Matthews drugged the victims. Matthews’s attorney, Douglas Cohen, said his client is innocent. Disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh is set to appear before a judge again. The convicted killer has been indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of bank fraud, a total of five counts of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and 14 counts of money laundering. The indictment alleges that while an attorney, Murdaugh came up with three schemes to take money and property from his clients. If convicted on the federal charges, 480 more years could be added to his current sentence. Fines could exceed $13 million. That's not all of Alex Murdaugh's legal woes. He will soon be deposed in a high-profile wrongful death suit against him. The family of Mallory Beach filed suit in connection with the March 2019 death of Beach in a boating crash. Police have been searching for a missing Mom and two teens from Springfield, Missouri, for more than twenty years. Pullos is now facing driving under the influence charges after her car flew over the dividing barrier, and into oncoming traffic. Bryan Kohberger's parents have been subpoenaed by a Pennsylvania grand jury to testify in connection with the May 2022 disappearance of a woman missing nearly a year. Dana Smithers was last seen leaving a friend's house in Monroe County late in the evening.
