Susan Smith's ex-husband has revealed what she said to him after she killed their young boys. David Smith tells Dateline his ex-wife casually, said, ‘I’m sorry,' and that was about as far as it went."   After high school, Susan Leigh Vaughan married David Smith. They had two sons, but the marriage faltered despite the children. The couple separated multiple times. During one separation, Susan began dating Tom Findlay, the single son of a wealthy mill owner. Smith imagined a future with Findlay until she received a "Dear John" letter from him, stating he did not want an instant family. On the night of October 25, Susan Smith knocked on the door of a house near John D. Long Lake. Hysterical, she told the man who answered to call the police. She claimed an armed Black man had carjacked her at a red light, with her two boys—3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alex—still in the car. For days, Susan repeated increasingly inconsistent versions of the carjacking story. Eventually, Smith confessed. There had been no carjacker. Feeling desperate, alone, and suicidal, she had taken her sons for a drive. At John D. Long Lake, she put the car in neutral, jumped out, and watched as the car sank. Scuba divers later found the vehicle with the boys still strapped in their seats. Since her conviction and incarceration, tabloid reports have alleged that Smith told prison investigators about four sexual encounters with Lieutenant Houston Cagle, a supervisor at South Carolina’s Women’s Correctional Institution. C Cagle admitted to having sex with Smith and another inmate. In August 2000, he was charged with the offenses, pleaded guilty, and served three months in jail. Captain Alfred Rowe also pleaded guilty to having sex with Smith and received five years of probation. Thirty years after Susan Smith drove her car into a lake with her two sons strapped in their car seats, she sought parole. A parole board denied her request. Taylor Meyer plans a Valentine's Day dinner for his wife, Deborah, with the theme "Bring Paris to You." Pulling out all the stops, he has their children draw pictures of the Eiffel Tower to decorate the table, buys Deborah a beautiful new dress, and orders food from their favorite Japanese steakhouse. After a lovely dinner, he gives his wife a Valentine's Day card with a personal message, and they dance to their wedding song. When the song ends, Deborah does not react as Taylor hopes, and they begin to argue. She leaves the house for about 20 minutes. When she returns, Taylor accuses her of cheating with a coworker and claims she visited her boyfriend, who had just gotten off work. He demands to see the messages on her watch and check her phone. When she refuses, a physical fight breaks out. Taylor pins her to the ground, sits on her back, and chokes her while grabbing the phone. He finds a number saved as "My Best Friend Emily" and calls it. A man answers. Taylor tells him, "It's your... fault." Deborah continues to struggle and challenges her husband, asking, "What are you going to do, kill me? You're going to hurt me and leave our kids with no parents?" She hits Taylor in the head with a water bottle. He responds by striking her in the head with a wine bottle. Deborah screams for help, calling for her children and the police. The person on the other end of the call hears her cries. When Deborah becomes unresponsive, Taylor goes to the kitchen, grabs "a big-ass knife," and stabs her 40 times. 11:16 p.m. Saturday. Princeton police respond to a 911 call about a dead body and a fire in an apartment building. The caller remains cryptic, refusing to answer the dispatcher’s questions about who is dead, why they are dead, or who owns the apartment. Police and first responders surround the building, but nothing prepares them for what they find inside. Matthew Hertgen, 31, answers the door. Inside, officers see a bloody, unresponsive young man with blunt force and laceration injuries covering his body. He is pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators note that one of his eyes has been removed. Nearby, they find a bloody plate, fork, and knife. Officers also discover a bloody golf club and what appears to be the charred remains of a cat. The victim is identified as 26-year-old Joseph Hertgen. Matthew Hertgen is immediately arrested for the murder of his younger brother. The discovery of the bloody plate leads police to believe that, in addition to beating Joseph to death, Hertgen ate his eye. Princeton police have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack. Hertgen is also charged with animal cruelty and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Princeton community is stunned. Residents describe Joseph’s death as devastating and tragic. A police source says no one could have foreseen such violence. Matthew Hertgen, they say, came from what appeared to be a stable, all-American family, with no signs he was capable of such brutality—especially against his own brother. Bryan Kohberger's attorneys have filed a motion to remove the death penalty as a sentencing option for their client. Their motion, titled “Motion to Strike Death Penalty RE: Autism Spectrum Disorder,” was filed Monday, along with a separate motion to "Redact or Seal Newly Filed Records in Support of Their Motion to Strike Death Penalty RE: Autism Spectrum Disorder Under Seal." This indicates the defense is citing autism spectrum disorder in its effort to keep Kohberger off death row. As of early this morning, the full documents were not publicly available online. The motions are sealed, so it remains unclear whether Kohberger has been diagnosed or if the defense is seeking a diagnosis. Meanwhile, Judge Stephen Hippler ruled against Kohberger’s defense regarding the DNA technique used to identify him as a suspect in the quadruple homicide case. Hippler determined that police did not violate Kohberger’s constitutional rights, stating there is "no reasonable expectation of privacy in identity" and that Kohberger’s team "did not prove that his DNA was tested for anything other than identifying purposes." The judge wrote, "Even if the DNA analysis revealed sensitive personal details, there is no reasonable expectation of privacy in crime scene DNA." Hippler has rejected multiple defense motions to suppress evidence. He ruled that police did not violate Kohberger’s constitutional rights during searches leading up to his arrest. One motion sought to exclude genetic evidence obtained through forensic genealogy, but the court found no violation. The defense also requested a hearing to determine whether the court was misled in obtaining warrants, but the judge denied the request. A Pennsylvania family is worried sick about 14-year-old Enci “Aubrey” Wu, who disappeared six weeks ago. Aubrey’s parents say based on her secret social media use, Aubrey could be anywhere from California to Saudi Arabia. Her parents terrified she was lured out of their home by a predator and may be a victim of sex-trafficking.   Just over six months after Aubrey gets her own phone, her parents discover a second, older iPhone hidden in her room. When confronted, Aubrey admits she convinced a boy at school to give it to her, and he told his parents he lost it. Aubrey paid for a new iCloud account to use on the phone, bypassing both her parents’ blocks and rules on when she can use a phone. Aubrey’s extremely upset when her parents take both phones away and ground her.   10:00 p.m.,  January 10th,  Palmer Township PD knock on Aubrey Wu’s door, asking her parents to wake her up for a welfare check. Officers say Aubrey’s boyfriend, a boy the parents don’t know, begged his parents to call police, as he hadn’t heard from Aubrey in more than 24 hours. Stepfather John Gehrmann calls upstairs for Aubrey several times—but receives no answer. The family’s security cameras reveal Aubrey crawled out her bedroom window, crept across the roof, shimmied down a grate, and disappeared into a back alley behind their home more than three hours ago.  Where is Aubrey? Investigators quickly determine that Moriah "Mo" Wilson, shot dead at a friend's home, was not a random target. After a few interviews, they realize Wilson's past relationship with Colin Strickland did not sit well with his current girlfriend, yoga instructor and real estate agent Kaitlin Armstrong. The day after police question her, Armstrong sells her Jeep Grand Cherokee to a CarMax in South Austin for $12,000. The same Jeep appears on surveillance video near the scene of Wilson's murder. The next day, Armstrong books a flight out of Austin. Eight days after Wilson's murder, investigators link Armstrong to the crime, and a warrant is issued for her arrest. As the warrant is issued, police discover she is already gone. Surveillance footage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport captures Armstrong boarding a flight to Houston, then on to New York. Investigators track her to New York's LaGuardia Airport, where she is seen again on surveillance video before seemingly vanishing. They later trace her to Newark International Airport but find no outbound flights under her name. However, had they looked closely, they might have noticed a young woman with brown hair flying out of Newark using the passport of her sister, who also has brown hair and lives in New York. A check with Homeland Security reveals "Christie Armstrong" left Newark on a one-way flight to Costa Rica. Armstrong lands in San José, Costa Rica, but does not stay long. She quickly disappears again. A month later, a source reports she may be hiding in Santa Teresa. After days of searching with no success, U.S. Marshals try a new tactic: placing ads for a yoga instructor. After nearly a week, they get a break—someone responds. An investigator, posing as a tourist, visits a hostel to get a closer look at the woman. She resembles Armstrong but not exactly. As he gets closer, he notices a bandage on her nose and swollen lips, but her eyes remain the same. Investigators now understand why she was so difficult to find—she had undergone plastic surgery. Hours after Chris Watts made an emotional plea for help finding his missing wife and two young daughters, the Colorado man led police to their bodies hidden in oil tanks near where he worked. Now after being convicted for the three murders, Chris Watts has labeled his pregnant wife, Shanann, a “control freak,” and claims that he sought refuge with his mistress. He says Nichol Kessinger  was “everything my wife wasn’t like with me.” Watts confided to a jail mate that his marriage to Shanann was unhappy but Nichol was just everything my wife wasn’t like with me. In a new attempt to dismiss at least one charge against him, Sean "Diddy" Combs argues that the government is prosecuting him under a racist law. Count 3 of the federal indictment—transportation to engage in prostitution—stems from a violation of the Mann Act, previously called the White-Slave Law, which was passed in 1910 to prohibit the transportation of women for human trafficking. Combs’ attorneys claim there has never been a similar prosecution under the Mann Act and that he is being singled out as a powerful Black man. Combs’ attorneys argue that the statute has primarily been used to prosecute people of color, writing that the law has “a long and troubling history as a statute with racist origins, used to target Black men and supposedly protect White women from them,” and that “what was racist in its inception has often been racist in its operation.” They further claim that using escorts is "widely accepted in American culture today" and that Combs is being prosecuted for conduct that “regularly goes unpunished for White men.” In their latest filing, Combs’ defense states, “There has never been a similar RICO prosecution. No white person has ever been the target of a remotely similar case." However, Keith Raniere, the founder of the personal development company NXIVM—which served as a recruitment tool for the sex cult DOS—was convicted of both sex trafficking and racketeering just six years ago. Ghislaine Maxwell was also found guilty of violating the Mann Act even more recently. In other Diddy-related news, the Jane Doe who accused Sean Combs, Jay-Z, and the mysterious “Celebrity B” of watching and participating in her rape when she was 13 has dropped her lawsuit without an outside settlement. She dismissed the allegations with prejudice, meaning the case cannot be refiled. Luigi Mangione’s first public comments since pleading not guilty to murder comes in the form of an open letter shared on a new website dedicated to his legal defense. His legal  team says the website — luigimangioneinfo.com — was created to ”share case updates, “dispel information” and publish letters from Mangione while he’s incarcerated.  He writes “I am overwhelmed by — and grateful for — everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support.”   Mangione’s legal team explain why the website was necessary. On the homepage they write.... “Due to the extraordinary volume of inquiries and outpouring of support, this site was created and is maintained by Luigi Mangione’s New York legal defense team to provide answers to frequently asked questions, accurate information about his cases, and dispel misinformation. “The intent is to share factual information regarding the unprecedented, multiple prosecutions against him.”  On the FAQ page of the website,  the defense teams ask that supporters limit the number of  items they send. Its pointed out that quote “Luigi is allowed to receive photos via Shutterfly and FreePrints in accordance with mail procedures”.  It contines “Luigi appreciates the photos that are sent and kindly asks that people send no more than five photos at a time. In his public statement , Mangione writes “While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.”   Luigi Mangione’s new website includes a link  to a GiveSendGo crowdfunding website. Supporters have been making donations in order to help pay Mangione’s legal fees. Recent reports of a missing child have many Muncie, Indiana residents asking, how does a little boy disappear without anyone realizing for nearly 5 years? Hayden Manis, now just a few months from his 10th birthday, was last seen in early 2020. The little boy believed to be living with his father, Dustin Manis, but a chance run in between two relatives reveals Manis has told several conflicting stories about Hayden’s whereabouts. Law enforcement now trying to recover from a years-long delay following the death of the main person of interest, Dad Dustin Manis.   Early September 2024, more than a year after Dustin’s last text to a family member, two of Hayden’s great-grandmothers run into each other at the grocery store and get to talking about Dustin and his son. One says Dustin told her DCS gave Dustin’s mom full custody in 2022..but the other had heard nothing about that. After some discussion, the extremely concerned family reaches out to both DCS and police, asking for a welfare check for Hayden.      Nearly 5 years after he’s last seen, now 9-year-old Hayden Manis is reported missing. While family last saw Hayden on Christmas Eve 2019, investigators say they have a verified sighting by someone other than his father on January 11, 2020.  Delaware County Sheriffs are desperate to locate Hayden Manis and are asking the public for help. James Craig and his wife Angela were married for over 20 years. They created a beautiful family of six, loving, happy family, happy children. Between work and taking care of their children, the Craigs still manage to fit a workout into their daily routine. The husband and wife go for a run or hit the gym together almost every day, and when they return home, James Craig makes protein shakes or fruit smoothies for breakfast while Angela delves into getting the kids ready for the day.    Angela complains of having a really nasty headache, along with problems focusing her eyesight.  She goes to the hospital saying she felt tingly and cold.   Doctors cannot figure out what's wrong with her.   Angela goes to the hospital multiple times, only to be sent home.  When she goes back for a third time, that's when she's checked in and her condition deteriorates, coding quickly.  Angela passes away.  One of Summer Brooks’ dental assistants recalls opening a package for Dr. Craig—that had potassium cyanide in it. She googles the symptoms of cyanide poisoning, and is horrified at how closely they match Angela’s symptoms. She immediately calls Craig’s partner, Ryan Redfearn, hoping he has some other explanation for the contents of the package...but he doesn’t. While visiting Angela, Redfearn tells a nurse about the cyanide, explaining there’s no medical use for the element in their practice. As a mandatory reporter, the nurse calls police.   With suspicions raised, Angela Craig is sent for an autopsy with additional toxicology screening. Tests reveal the otherwise healthy mom of six died of poisoning from both cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a common ingredient in eyedrops. While investigators have no definitive evidence Angela’s food and drinks were poisoned with cyanide, the tests reveal her cyanide levels increased while she was in the hospital.    Police then check Craig's computer finding strange searches.  One of them was how to poison someone, how to make poison and top five or top 10 undetectable poisons that people won't be able to find after someone has died and will not signal foul play. Less than 24 hours after his wife’s death, dentist James Toliver Craig is arrested for Angela’s murder and additionally charged with tampering with evidence. A 52-page arrest affidavit details Craig’s concerning computer searches, three poison orders, an ongoing affair, and proof Craig took several measures to cover his tracks.    Police then learn the dentist  allegedly tried to hire his cellmate to kill Aurora PD’s lead detective Bobbi Jo Olson for $20,000. Calling Olson the “worst, dirtiest detective,” James Craig tried to recruit Nathaniel Harris to take her out for cash or free dental work. Olson wasn’t the only person on his list. "Up and Vanished" host Payne Lindsey joins the program to discuss the focus of "Up and Vanished: In The Midnight Sun" - The Disappearance of Florence Okpealuk.  Thirty-three-year-old Florence Okpealuk was last seen on West Beach in Nome, Alaska. When Blaire could not reach her sister, she posted on Facebook, asking if anyone had seen Florence, and began searching around town. Florence had not been to work or the grocery store, and neither her ex nor her friends had seen or heard from her. Blaire felt she had exhausted all leads when Naomi, a bartender at Board and Trade, messaged her. Naomi said she last saw Florence on her birthday, but a man at the bar claimed he saw Florence on West Beach with a miner the night she did not come home. Blaire and several family members canvassed West Beach, asking anyone willing to talk if they had seen Florence. Eventually, a man told Blaire he saw Florence leaving a nearby tent around 4 p.m. He asked Blaire to wait while he rummaged inside his tent, then returned with Florence’s socks, shoes, and jacket. Bewildered, Blaire asked where Florence was and why he had her belongings. The man became quiet but insisted he did not bring Florence to West Beach and claimed he found her belongings outside his tent. An older man in the neighboring tent offered a different account. He said he saw Florence with his neighbor the night before, riding down the beach on an ATV. The ATV did not return until the next morning, but his neighbor was the only rider. Blaire reported Florence missing at 6:15 p.m. that evening, two days after she last saw her sister. Payne Lindsey, host of the "Up and Vanished" podcast, traveled to Nome to investigate Florence’s disappearance. Lindsey contacted Naomi, the bartender from Board and Trade, who received a tip from a patron that Florence was last seen on West Beach. Audrii Cunningham's body has been found along the Trinity River after water levels were lowered, allowing detectives access.   Don Steven McDougal, 42, led investigators to the location earlier in the investigation. McDougal has now been charged with capital murder.   Don Steven McDougal has been a person of interest since the first 24 hours of Audrii Cunningham's disappearance. He was arrested on an unrelated charge. In 2010, Don Steven McDougal was working in a local garage with Elic Bryan III. Bryan says McDougal seemed like an OK guy, until one night when McDougal had too much to drink and Bryan had to kick him out of his house. McDougal left, briefly, and came back with a knife, slashing tires and trying to stab Bryan.  Bryan had to get his gun to try to run a drunk McDougal off his property, but it took police with police dogs coming out to track him down and take McDougal to jail. Don Steven McDougal admits he was supposed to take Audrii Cunningham to the bus stop but he has yet to tell investigators if she made it to the bus stop or not. January, the Kansas City Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers.  Jordan Willis invites a couple of buddies to watch the game at his home. David Harrington, Ricky Johnson, and Clayton McGeeney arrive in time for the 3:25 p.m. CST time kickoff. After the game, Willis waves the guys off and crashes on the couch.  Later, he heads to bed. The next day, Willis says he didn't leave his home at all. That same day, the friends and family of David Harrington, Ricky Johnson, and Clayton McGeeney are concerned. The last they knew was that they were headed to Jordan Willis' house to watch the game but now, none of the guys, including Jordan Willis, are replying to messages on social media or by phone. Tuesday, January 9, 9:51 p.m.: Clayton McGeeney’s fiancée shows up at the Willis' home.  She sees the cars in the driveway and since nobody is answering the phone or replying to messages, She breaks into the home and screams Willis' name.  She walks through the house, then looks on the back porch and sees a body.  Clayton McGeeney's fiancée calls police. They find Willis in his underwear with an empty glass of wine in hand, according to the victims' families. The other two bodies were then found in the backyard. Bryan Kohberger’s attorneys say investigators found blood from an unknown man on a handrail in the victims' home and another person's DNA on a glove outside. Anne Taylor argues this could indicate Kohberger's lack of involvement in the crime. Although court filings acknowledged the unknown DNA samples last year, they did not disclose that at least two of the samples were from blood. During Kohberger’s last hearing, Taylor accused authorities of withholding information, saying police did not disclose the unidentified blood when obtaining a search warrant for Kohberger's arrest. She argues this omission should invalidate some evidence collected during the search because it was not properly authorized. Kohberger's attorneys also allege the FBI illegally obtained his DNA, violating the Fourth Amendment's protection against illegal searches and seizures. They argue that submitting Kohberger’s DNA to a public ancestry database was improper because law enforcement cannot legally use the site. The attorneys also claim that police did not submit two other blood samples from the scene to the FBI’s DNA database due to eligibility issues and failed to inform the magistrate judge about them. Wendy Williams, the former talk show host known for her catchphrase, “How you doin’?” has been under a court-ordered guardianship since 2022 after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. However, the star is disputing both her diagnoses and need for a guardian. Williams calls her life a prison and accuses her guardian of emotional abuse.   After a successful trial run of The Wendy Williams Show, the talk show is broadcast internationally and garners 2.4 million daily viewers. Williams trades off with Ellen DeGeneres as the number one female daytime television host for years. The daily show runs for 12 years straight while Williams starts her own reality TV production company with her manager, and husband, Kevin Hunter. Williams’ health issues become apparent in the later years of The Wendy Williams Show. Williams has always been open about her cocaine addiction in the 80s and 90s, which she overcame with no treatment. The host also diagnosed with Graves’ disease, which causes hyperthyroidism. In 2017, Williams passes out during a taping of the show, and in the following years fills months of several seasons with guest hosts due to struggles with her health issues.    In 2019, after 20 years of marriage, Wendy Williams files for divorce from her manager and husband, Kevin Hunter, after discovering he fathered a child with another woman. Williams does not take the betrayal well and begins drinking heavily. Just before the divorce, Williams reveals she’s been in rehab for some time. During the treatment, Williams is diagnosed with alcohol-induced brain damage. By 2021, doctors say Williams, 57, has alcohol-induced dementia.   January 2022, Williams’ bank freezes her accounts after documenting a “pattern of unusual and disturbing” financial events. Wells Fargo requests a New York Supreme Court hearing to determine if Williams is in need of a guardian. The Feds expect to file additional charges against luxury real estate agents Tal and Oren Alexander, and their brother Alon, as the number of women accusing the siblings of rape climbs. The brothers plead not guilty at their first Manhattan court appearance, all three appearing in matching beige jumpsuits, slip on shoes, and handcuffs on their wrists and ankles. Prosecutor Elizabeth Espinosa informed the court that a superseding indictment in the works, will add new allegations against the three siblings.  While prosecutors previously alleged 40 victims, Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Espinosa now says the government has interviewed more than 60 people who have reported being sexually assaulted by at least one of the brothers. The settlement means that after 14 years, the  Philadelphia Medical Examiner's office will reopen and reinvestigate Greenberg's manner of death.  Ellen Greenberg was found stabbed 20 times in the head, back, neck and chest. Then her death was ruled a suicide. The attorney for the Greenberg's, Joseph Padraza, Jr says the settlement includes an agreement that the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an “expeditious” review of the manner of Greenberg’s 2011 death. The settlement is reached days after Doctor Marlon Osbourne, who conducted the autopsy, as the former assistant medical examiner with the ME's office, signed a sworn verification statement in which he says he now believes Ellen's manner of death should be designated as something other than suicide. Doctor Osbourne initially ruled Ellen Greenberg's death a homicide then changed the ruling to suicide. In a public statement, Doctor Marlon Osbourne said after reviewing additional information in the Ellen Greenberg case file obtained from the Philadelphia Police Department as well as a consult with Doctor Lucy Rorke-Adams, a pediatric neuropathologist, he decided to make the change. In his verification, Osbourne writes that he is now unsure of the series of events that happened that day. He also says he doesn't know "whether the door was forced open as reported; whether Ellen's body was moved by someone else inside the apartment with her at or near the time of her death, and the findings of Lindsey Emery, M.D., from her neuropathological evaluation of Ellen's cervical segment sample." Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly rushed to the hospital hours after prosecutors filed a superseding indictment in his federal racketeering case. The disgraced rap mogul is now accused of criminal activity spanning two decades and of sex trafficking two additional victims in addition to ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. Alongside the amended indictment, more alleged victims have come forward in lawsuits, claiming sexual assault at the hands of Combs. Combs was transported from the Metropolitan Detention Center to Brooklyn Hospital Center under the cover of darkness to avoid whispers and speculation from other inmates and prison staff. He underwent an MRI but did not require an overnight stay and was returned to prison a few hours later. The MRI was reportedly authorized because Combs has been complaining about an old knee injury. Diddy has faced knee problems for decades after running the 2003 New York Marathon. He injured his knee during the six weeks he trained for the marathon. Combs, accompanied by undercover officers, participated in the race as part of his fundraiser, “Diddy Runs the City,” which ultimately garnered $2 million for New York public schools and children suffering from HIV and AIDS. He finished in four hours and 15 minutes, achieving his goal of beating Oprah Winfrey, who previously completed the Marine Corps Marathon in four and a half hours. Ahead of his May trial, federal prosecutors have amended the indictment against Sean Diddy Combs. He still faces charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution, but two more women have been added to the last charge, referred to as Victims 2 and 3 throughout the document. According to the new filing, Combs “used force, threats of force, and coercion to cause victims, including but not limited to three female victims, to engage in commercial sex acts.” The superseding indictment is very similar to the original filed in September, but in addition to accusing Combs of trafficking more women, it also extends the time frame of his alleged racketeering conspiracy. Prosecutors initially accused the mogul of using ‘Combs Enterprises’ as a 'criminal organization' responsible for kidnapping and drug-related crimes as far back as 2008, but they now allege the illegal activity began four years earlier, indicating that Combs’ pattern of abuse has continued uninterrupted for two decades. The amended indictment expands the list of drugs that Combs and his associates are accused of distributing, which initially included cocaine, ketamine, and oxycodone. Methamphetamine and magic mushrooms have now been added to the list of substances. Combs is accused of encouraging women to engage in sex by plying them with substances, including ketamine and ecstasy, often without their knowledge or consent. Prosecutors also allege that he offered women money and promises to help advance their careers if they participated in his "Freak Offs." The superseding indictment includes allegations from fashion designer Bryana Bongolan, who claims that Diddy dangled her over the edge of a 17th-floor balcony. This is listed as just one example of how Combs allegedly used force to combat threats to his reputation. Just months after beating Cassie Ventura at the Intercontinental Hotel, Bongolan claims that an intoxicated Combs let himself into Ventura’s apartment looking for his girlfriend but only found Bongolan, who had spent the night there. Enraged, Diddy allegedly grabbed Bongolan by the armpits, dangled her off the edge of the balcony, and threatened to drop her until Ventura happened to arrive home and intervene. Combs has once again vehemently denied all of the allegations in the revised indictment. Police responded to a shooting in New Haven. When they arrived, they found Kevin Jiang shot to death in the street. About 100 feet away sat his Prius. Jiang had been shot multiple times. Officers initially considered the shooting a possible case of road rage. Surveillance video from a nearby home captured the sound of a car crash before Jiang’s Prius entered the frame, followed closely by a dark SUV. Jiang’s Prius came to a stop as the SUV reversed. Jiang exited his car and walked toward the SUV, stepping out of the frame. Seconds later, eight gunshots and a scream were heard. A witness told police she looked out her window after hearing the gunshots and saw the shooter standing over Jiang, who was already on the ground. The gunman fired additional shots at close range. Detectives at the scene noted stippling on Jiang’s face, indicating he had been shot at close range. New Haven homicide detective David Zaweski believed the evidence suggested something more than a random shooting or road rage. That same night, police in North Haven responded to a separate incident at Sims Metal Management, a scrapyard near a highway entrance. A security guard reported a dark SUV had driven through the yard and become stuck on snowy railroad tracks. Officer Jeffrey Mills arrived and identified the driver as Qinxuan Pan. Pan’s license came back clean. Mills didn’t notice anything suspicious but recalled a yellow jacket, a black briefcase, and a blue bag with a Massachusetts logo inside the SUV. Officers arranged for Pan to stay at a nearby hotel for the night. At 11 a.m., as Sgt. Mills was finishing his shift, an employee at Arby’s reported finding a bag containing a gun and bullets. Mills responded and recognized the yellow jacket, black briefcase, and blue bag from Pan’s car. Arby’s was next door to the Best Western where Pan had been dropped off. By then, Mills had learned about the New Haven homicide and the search for a dark-colored SUV. He checked the Best Western and confirmed Pan had checked in but never stayed. Mills alerted New Haven police. Tests later confirmed the .45-caliber handgun found at Arby’s matched the shell casings from Jiang’s murder scene. The SUV Pan abandoned on the railroad tracks remained at a tow facility. Investigators discovered it had been reported stolen from a car dealership in Malden, Massachusetts, where Pan lived. A dealership employee told police Pan had taken the vehicle for a test drive but never returned it. Now, New Haven police were investigating a homicide, Malden police were handling a stolen vehicle case, and North Haven police had recovered the stolen SUV and the suspected murder weapon. All agencies were searching for the one man connecting them—Qinxuan Pan.
