Cobb County, Georgia, police and EMTs respond to a 911 call reporting an unconscious person just before 8:30 a.m. They find a woman’s body in a bush, her face partially covered by her disheveled sweater. Police say she has been dead for several hours and that there are signs of a struggle. Authorities identify the woman as Camillia Williams, a mother of five. Her family in Louisiana describes her as someone who wouldn’t hurt a fly and could hold a conversation with anyone. Police say the 52-year-old was strangled. Detectives with the Cobb County Police Department spend two days searching the neighborhood where Williams’ body was found. Investigators block off the street while collecting evidence and knock on neighbors’ doors, looking for witnesses and surveillance footage. A neighbor across the street from where Williams was found turns over Ring doorbell footage, revealing the entire attack on video. The footage shows a young man closely following Williams. When she turns to tell him to leave her alone, he rushes at her. The video shows the man wrapping Williams in a chokehold and dragging her to bushes in front of a home on Pat Mell Road. When she goes limp, he puts both knees on her neck and kneels there for several minutes, preventing her from breathing. He then casually walks away. Investigators identify the attacker as 21-year-old Honduran national Hector Sagastume. A recorded phone call between Kanye West and Sean Combs has been used in a new song. The recording leaked just as West released his latest track, Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine. The song features samples from the jailhouse call, a verse from Combs’ son, Christian “King” Combs, and West’s daughter, North. As West faces backlash from ex-wife Kim Kardashian over North’s inclusion, a source claims Combs now feels like “he’s collateral damage.” The source added that Combs believed the call was a sincere expression of concern for him and his family and is now embarrassed to be caught in the crossfire. Kardashian is fighting to stop West from releasing the song, calling it “irresponsible” and a blatant disregard for North’s future and reputation. She first reminded West that she holds a trademark for their daughter's name, then sought emergency mediation with a judge. West did not appear. Although his X post featuring the song was quickly deleted, fans had already reposted the audio across the internet. As Combs’ trial approaches, his defense team is pushing to block evidence from the courtroom. Attorneys argue that the widely circulated video of Combs attacking then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura was altered to misrepresent the altercation. Prosecutors, however, claim to have the original, unedited footage from the Intercontinental Hotel. Stephan Sterns wants to keep his trial private and is arguing to bar the public and media from the courtroom. Sterns’ public defender, Alesha Smith, presented a PowerPoint to the judge showing how many podcasts, TikTok, Reddit, and YouTube accounts are following the case. She called the coverage “unprecedented” and argued it would make a fair trial impossible. Minch Minchin, representing several news organizations, countered that Florida and U.S. courts consistently rule proceedings should remain open. “Prominence does not produce prejudice, and juror impartiality does not require ignorance,” Minchin said. Judge Keith Carsten said he would rule within 10 days. Meanwhile, authorities released 35 recorded jail calls between Sterns and his parents. In the recordings, Sterns said he found Maddie “ice cold” with her lips “turning blue.” He also said he wished he had called 911. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home after workers saw bodies through a window when no one answered the door. Gene Hackman, 95, his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, and a dog were found dead. Officers found the front door of Hackman’s two-story green stucco home slightly ajar but saw no signs of forced entry. During a search, deputies found all other buildings and the garage of the $3.8 million home locked and secured. The home did not appear to have been rummaged through, and no items were reported missing. An officer noted that nothing seemed "out of place." According to a search warrant affidavit, officers entering the home saw a bathroom to the left of the front door. The bathroom door was open, and Betsy Arakawa was lying on her right side, deceased. Police said she was wearing dark gray sweatpants and a light-colored sweatshirt. A black space heater was near her head, but the report did not state whether it was on. Officers also saw an open orange prescription bottle with pills scattered on the countertop. A deputy reported obvious signs of death, including body decomposition, facial bloating, and mummification in her hands and feet. Deputies then saw feet and legs near the kitchen. They found Gene Hackman dead in the mudroom. He was wearing gray sweatpants, a blue long-sleeve T-shirt, and brown slippers. He had a walking cane and a pair of sunglasses. Hackman showed similar signs of death as his wife. An autopsy was performed, but initial findings noted no external trauma to either individual. In a press conference, authorities said Arakawa died February 11 from hantavirus. However, new documents show she made multiple phone calls and was seen on February 12. Ricky Johnson, David Harrington, and Clayton McGeeney were last seen alive on January 7, 2024, watching the final regular-season Kansas City Chiefs game at the home of their friend, Jordan Willis. Two days later, authorities found their frozen bodies outside the house. After a yearlong investigation, prosecutors charged Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson in connection with the deaths, which gained national attention. Both men face three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivering a controlled substance. Police say Carson, known as "Blade Brown," supplied and sold cocaine to Willis and the victims. Investigators found Carson's DNA on a bag of fentanyl inside Willis' home. Willis and Carson remain in jail on a $100,000 cash bond. If convicted, they each face up to 10 years in prison. During the investigation, law enforcement initially said they did not suspect foul play. A toxicology report later confirmed that the men had cocaine, THC, and fentanyl in their systems. Police have since ruled the deaths as caused by "fentanyl and cocaine toxicity." As the case progressed, Willis moved out of the home and checked into rehab. A forensic analysis of Harrington’s phone uncovered text messages between Willis, McGeeney, Johnson, and others, linking Carson to the cocaine supply. Emily Pike, 14, sneaks away from the group home where she lives. When she does not return, Mesa police are contacted, and she is reported missing. Her mother is not informed until she has been missing for a week. Police say the group home is responsible for notifying her case manager, who would then contact Pike’s family or tribe. Authorities post her picture on social media, print flyers, and alert the media, stating that Emily Pike is missing and may have run away. Nearly a month after Pike disappears, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office reports that searchers found the remains of an unidentified female in a wooded area near U.S. 60, about 20 miles northeast of Globe, Arizona. The remains are difficult to identify but appear to belong to a missing Native American girl. Within 24 hours, authorities confirm the remains are those of 14-year-old Emily Pike. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office reports that detectives found the head and torso in large contractor trash bags, while the legs were in separate bags. Investigators search the area but do not find the arms and hands. This information, meant for law enforcement only, reaches friends and family without warning. A preliminary autopsy report notes visible trauma to Pike’s face and head. Authorities do not find clothing, jewelry, or identification with the remains. The cause of death remains undetermined. Investigators believe someone killed Pike elsewhere before dumping her dismembered remains. Her arms and hands remain missing. The sheriff’s office says investigators recovered surveillance footage from Mesa, where Emily was last seen alive, but have not found footage from the rural area where her remains were discovered. Officials urge anyone with information to come forward. The San Carlos Apache Tribe is offering a $75,000 reward for information leading to Pike’s killer. Law enforcement released the 911 recording after prosecutors unsealed a court document containing a transcript of the call. The filing responds to Kohberger’s argument that the jury should not hear the 911 call. His attorneys argue that the call was improperly submitted as evidence, claiming many statements in the recording are hearsay.   Judge John Judge previously ruled that the statements in question fall under the present sense impression and excited utterance exceptions. Wendy Williams says she feels like she is in prison as she fights to end her court-appointed guardianship. Almost on cue, she may have proven her point when Coterie, the assisted living facility where she resides on the fifth floor, called police, claiming her niece, Alex Finnie, had kidnapped her. According to the report Coterie filed with the NYPD, Finnie evaded staff and took Williams out to eat at an Italian restaurant. After police were called, Williams and Finnie cited the incident as an example of how restrictive the guardianship has allegedly become. Speaking to paparazzi outside Coterie, Finnie noted that Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, claims Williams can come and go freely and that no family visits are blocked. Finnie questioned that statement, pointing out that staff escorted Williams to the elevator, yet Coterie still called police. Williams told the interviewer, “Clearly, they are lying to me when they say I can go out and do what I want to do.” Williams claims she can only leave the facility’s fifth-floor memory unit with permission and an attendant to unlock the elevator. This week, a judge approved an emergency petition filed by Williams’ attorney to move her from what she calls a “luxury prison” to a less restrictive environment. In a major development in the search for Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office announced that the missing person investigation is now a homicide investigation. Detectives made the determination based on evidence gathered, information from interviews, and the fact that none of Nikki’s family members have heard from her since May 18, 2024. Nikki Cheng Saelee McCain has been missing for ten months, and her husband, Tyler McCain, had remained silent until now. At a press conference alongside Nikki's family and the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, McCain spoke publicly about his wife for the first time. Nervous and struggling to find the right words, he said he didn’t know what to say, apologized to Nikki's family and his children for not being more publicly involved in the search, admitted he had not handled the attention well, and offered a message to Nikki, saying, "We miss you." Sudiksha Konanki and five college friends arrived in the Dominican Republic on March 3. They booked rooms at the all-inclusive resort Riu Republica in Punta Cana.   A few days later, Sudiksha and her friends were dancing at a disco when the resort experienced a 25-hour power outage in some areas. Some reports say that’s when the group of six women and two men decided to take a moonlight walk on the beach. Surveillance footage shows Sudiksha Konanki and five women, along with two men, walking toward the beach. About an hour later, the footage shows five women and one man leaving. Konanki apparently stayed behind with Joshua Riibe, a 24-year-old spring breaker from the U.S.   The next morning, Konanki’s friends went on an excursion she had not signed up for, so they did not realize she was missing. When they returned that afternoon, they discovered they had not seen her since the night before.   When they tracked down Riibe, he said he had passed out on the beach and, when he woke up, he was alone. Assuming Konanki had already left, he returned to his hotel room. By then, she had been missing for 12 hours.   Dominican Republic authorities questioned Riibe for hours over the weekend, including intense questioning by Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso and Navy Vice Admiral Agustin Morillo Rodriguez. Authorities have confiscated Riibe’s passport, and he is not free to leave. Reports say police escort him wherever he goes. Kouri Richins' defense alleges that the Summit County Sheriff’s Office illegally obtained evidence while investigating the death of Eric Richins. Defense attorneys Kathy Nester and Wendy Lewis say detectives violated Richins' constitutional rights and argue that the evidence should be ruled inadmissible during her murder trial.   At the center of the motion are the "Walk the Dog" letter and data from her phone and Apple accounts. Defense attorneys argue that investigators took Kouri’s phone without a proper warrant and failed to inform her of her right to remain silent, her right to request a lawyer, and her right to refuse questioning.   The case began when Eric Richins became violently ill on multiple occasions after having dinner with his wife, Kouri.   The couple, who owned a successful real estate business, was celebrating a big sale when Kouri Richins prepared a drink for her husband. She then went to care for their children. Hours later, when she went to bed, Eric Richins was dead.   Investigators believe his wife killed him by putting a fatal dose of fentanyl in his drink. Police also discovered that Kouri Richins attempted to change the beneficiary of her husband's life insurance policy. Kevin Franke and his two oldest children have opened up for the first time together to tell their story of living with infamous vlogger Ruby Franke. Hulu's docuseries Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke reveal the disturbing details of the abuse endured by the Franke children and how husband Kevin was isolated from his children during his year-long separation from their mother.  We learned of the horrendous abused when Franke's 12-year-old son climbs out of a window in a home, belonging to Franke's business partner Jodi Hildebrandt. The boy  running to neighbors begging for food and water.  Neighbors called police. Officers said the boy looked emaciated and malnourished.  Cops also noted that the boy had “deep lacerations from being tied up with rope” and duct tape around his wrists and ankles.. After searching Hildebrandt’s home, police found Franke’s 10-year-old daughter in a similar condition.  Both children were taken to a hospital.    Franke's parenting channel "8 Passengers," which at one time boasted over 2 million followers,  doled out parenting advice,  and in her video, she admits to withholding food as a form of punishment.   Both women  charged and convicted with aggravated child abuse. Elizabeth Johnson gives birth to a boy on May 3. She and Logan McQueary name him Gabriel. Logan says Johnson has trouble adjusting to motherhood. When Gabriel cries, Johnson sometimes puts him in a room by himself so she does not have to hear him. After a heated argument with Logan in June over her parenting, Johnson flies to Boston with Gabriel to visit her grandmother. Returning to Arizona in August, she meets Tammi Peters Smith during an airport layover in Indianapolis. Johnson, crying and holding Gabriel, attracts Smith’s attention, leading to a conversation about Smith and her husband adopting the baby. Johnson returns to Arizona without Gabriel. The baby is later found safe at the Peters Smith residence. After Gabriel’s return to Arizona, a family court judge grants joint custody to Johnson and Logan, with Johnson having Gabriel first. Mother’s Day, 2002: Jennifer Harris spends the afternoon at her friend Kristy Farr’s house. Around 8:00 p.m., Jennifer says she has to go, seemingly heading to other plans. She leaves in her green soft-top Jeep, but she never makes it home that night. Her family reports her missing early the next morning. That afternoon, Jennifer’s car is found abandoned on the side of the road near a local music spot. There are no signs of a struggle, and none of her belongings are inside. Six days into the search, a fisherman on the Red River calls 911 after spotting a woman’s naked body floating face down in the water. It is Jennifer. Her body is so badly decomposed that a medical examiner cannot determine the cause of death, classifying it only as a "violent homicide." Investigators learn that Jennifer told her ex-husband she was pregnant and that he was the father, despite Rob Holman having a new girlfriend. In a shocking twist, the only evidence of Jennifer’s pregnancy is missing from her remains. Forensic experts cannot determine why her uterus is gone but believe fish and turtles likely destroyed it. A New Jersey woman has been missing for nearly a year after taking a weekend camping trip. Danielle Lopez’s family should have celebrated her 38th birthday during that time. She was last seen walking near her blue two-door Hyundai Accent on a secluded dirt road deep in Penn State Forest around 6 p.m. on April 13, 2024. Danielle went camping at the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest Campground with her boyfriend to watch an eclipse. On Friday night, she spoke with her mother from the campground and seemed in good spirits. On Saturday morning, she was seen grabbing coffee at a Wawa in nearby Vincentown. That afternoon, Danielle was spotted driving down Lost Lane Road in Penn State Forest. Minutes later, she was seen walking. She asked a couple for help because her car was stuck in the mud, but they declined. After dark, a good Samaritan towed her car out, but she never returned to the vehicle and has not been seen since. Danielle is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. She usually wears glasses and was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and light-colored shoes. A limited-time $5,000 reward is available. After two weeks in office, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the release of documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.  The Justice Department issued a statement alongside "Phase 1," clarifying that the declassified files largely contained previously leaked documents that had never been formally released by the U.S. government. While many expected Epstein’s client list to reveal explosive details, most of the roughly 200-page release consisted of previously circulated information, including Epstein’s contact list and flight logs from his private jet. Amid public disappointment, Bondi sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, claiming a source at the New York FBI Field Office informed her that thousands of pages of Epstein-related documents remained in the agency’s possession. She demanded the remaining files be delivered to her office by 8:00 a.m. the next day and ordered Patel to investigate why her directives had not been followed. Bondi has since stated that her office received a "truckload of evidence," which she says includes the remaining Epstein documents the FBI had withheld. She claims Director Patel is investigating the reason for the delay while other agents work to redact the remaining files. Bondi promised, “If something’s redacted, you will know the line and you will know why it’s redacted.” Many anticipate new indictments based on the documents’ contents. A circuit judge ordered Donna Adelson to remain in jail until her trial this summer. Judge Stephen Everett denied her bond request in a three-page ruling. Her attorneys argued that the 76-year-old felt unsafe in jail, citing alleged assaults, threats, and extortion. Adelson is charged with murdering her son-in-law, Florida State University law professor Dan Markel. Police found him shot in his garage on July 18, 2014. Her son, Charlie Adelson, along with his ex-girlfriend Katherine Magbanua and hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, have been convicted in the case. Markel was married to Adelson’s daughter, Wendi Jill Adelson, who has not been accused of involvement or prior knowledge of the plot. Miami International Airport police arrested Adelson in November 2023 as she and her husband, Harvey, prepared to board one-way flights to Vietnam via Dubai—two countries without extradition treaties with the U.S. In the bond ruling, Everett found prosecutors had presented enough evidence to keep her in jail. He acknowledged that courts have discretion in detaining defendants but said her case did not warrant release. He cited her arrest as a key factor in the decision. John-Paul and Mica Miller marry in 2017, and at just 23, Mica becomes stepmom to John-Paul Miller's five children.  At first, outside the home everybody seems happy, but inside the home, not so much. Mica Miller has decided she has had enough of Pastor John-Paul Miller and files for divorce.   Four months after filing for divorce, Mica Miller pulls back the divorce papers, only to file again weeks later. After filing for divorce the second time, Mica Miller says she feels like she is being stalked. Her tires are slashed twice. Police discover a tire deflator has been used on the tires. Taking her car in for service, a mechanic finds a tracking device in Mica Miller's car. Mica Miller tells police she is afraid for her life. She knows who the suspect is, but the police tell her there isn't much they can do. A report is filed, but no charges. Weeks later, Pastor John-Paul Miller announces during church service that he got a call telling him his wife is dead. Mica commits suicide, according to police. Separate memorial events spring up for Mica Miller, one for her husband at Solid Rock and one for her family and friends held beachside. Days after the service, Pastor John-Paul Miller is relieved of his duties at the church. Then, police arrested Pastor John-Paul Miller on assault charges unrelated to his wife’s suicide. An FBI raid of Pastor John-Paul Miller's home followed. The FBI declined to specify what they were searching for.  Now, Miller is facing new lawsuits alleging he sexually assaulted a teen girl more than 20 years ago. Two people were shot on the set of Alec Baldwin's movie Rust. Director of photography Halyna Hutchins died, and director Joel Souza was wounded. Reports say first assistant director David Halls picked up one of three prop guns set up by armorer Hannah Gutierrez and yelled, “cold gun.” "Cold gun" is industry slang meaning the gun does not contain live rounds. Halls gave the gun to Baldwin, who used it to rehearse a scene. According to the search warrant, Baldwin aimed the weapon at the camera when he fired, striking Hutchins and Souza. Reports suggest crew members used the weapon for target practice earlier that morning. A judge dismissed charges against Baldwin. The actor sued and launched a reality show. Ricky Johnson, David Harrington, and Clayton McGeeney were last seen alive on January 7, 2024, watching the final regular-season Kansas City Chiefs game at the home of their friend, Jordan Willis. Two days later, authorities found their frozen bodies outside the house. After a yearlong investigation, prosecutors charged Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson in connection with the deaths, which gained national attention. Both men face three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivering a controlled substance. Police say Carson, known as "Blade Brown," supplied and sold cocaine to Willis and the victims. Investigators found Carson's DNA on a bag of fentanyl inside Willis' home. Willis and Carson remain in jail on a $100,000 cash bond. If convicted, they each face up to 10 years in prison. Bryan Kohberger’s defense team has revealed a major development in his upcoming trial. A newly unsealed court filing shows that investigators found three unknown DNA profiles under victim Madison Mogen’s fingernails. Clippings from Mogen’s left hand contained the samples, but testing has not determined their source. Comparisons between the profiles and Kohberger’s DNA were inconclusive, meaning he has neither been confirmed nor excluded as a contributor. Kohberger’s defense is seeking to have the DNA evidence dismissed, arguing that the term “inconclusive” could mislead a jury into believing he might be one of the three individuals whose DNA was found under Mogen’s nails. The attorneys also argue that likelihood ratios, which simply compare the state’s hypotheses, may be wrongly interpreted as a probability of identity. The search for Dane Paulsen continues. Crews have searched 382 acres. In the first 24 hours of his disappearance, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, working with local, state, and federal agencies, deployed 88 certified search and rescue members, four watercraft, four divers, four drones, six human-trailing K9s, 40 investigators, and 138 community volunteers. The FBI is providing family resources through its Victim Services Division. Volunteers arrived at sunrise to help search for the two-year-old, who has been missing since around 4:30 p.m. the previous day. Law enforcement, surprised by the large turnout, set up a command post at a boat launch across the river from the toddler’s home. In a Facebook post, Dane’s mother, Cha Met, pleaded for help, writing, “Our baby is missing. His name is Dane. He’s 2 years old, but he looks like he’s 3 or 4. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home after workers saw bodies through a window when no one answered the door. Gene Hackman, 95, his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, and a dog were found dead. Officers found the front door of Hackman’s two-story, green stucco home slightly ajar, but there were no signs of forced entry. During a search, deputies found all other buildings and the garage of the $3.8 million home locked and secured. The home did not appear to have been rummaged through, and no items were reported missing. An officer noted that nothing appeared "out of place." According to a search warrant affidavit, officers entering the home saw a bathroom to the left of the front door. The bathroom door was open, and Betsy Arakawa was lying on her right side, deceased. Police said she was wearing dark gray sweatpants and a light-colored sweatshirt. A black space heater was near her head, but the report did not state whether it was on. Officers also saw an open orange prescription bottle with pills scattered on the countertop. A deputy reported obvious signs of death, including body decomposition, facial bloating, and mummification in her hands and feet. Deputies then saw feet and legs near the kitchen area. They found Gene Hackman dead in the mudroom. He was wearing gray sweatpants, a blue long-sleeve T-shirt, and brown slippers. He had a walking cane and a pair of sunglasses. Hackman showed similar signs of death as his wife. An autopsy was performed, but initial findings noted no external trauma to either individual. The manner and cause of death have not been determined. The official autopsy and toxicology results are pending. 16-year-old Sophia Martin Franklin is still missing.  Sophia is 5’9”, 186 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. The teenager is believed to be travelling in a black 2014 Buick Lacrosse with Pennsylvania plate number KGW5186. The driver is 40-year-old abductor, Gary Day, the father of Sophia’s unborn child, but how did Franklin come to be with Day?  The summer before Sophia’s junior year of high school, Sophia asks her parents if it would be okay if she stays with her best friend’s family. The girls have been close for years and do everything together. Sophia makes a lot of good points about saving time and gas, and promises to check in frequently, so her parents eventually agree, knowing how happy it would make their daughter. The teen admits she’s been with Day since August, and her family has no idea.   Sophia Franklin is removed from Day’s home and taken for a medical examination while authorities contact her family.
