Sean “Diddy” Combs' sex-trafficking trial kicks off with jury selection. This week, Combs listened intently as potential jurors answered questions after completing their written questionnaires. During the proceedings, Combs asked the judge for a bathroom break. When he returned, he apologized to Judge Subramanian, saying, “I’m sorry, Your Honor, I’m a little nervous today.” Final jury selection continues Friday. Several potential jurors have been dismissed. One called the Cassie Ventura beating video “damning evidence.” Another said he believes the rap mogul can “buy his way out of jail.” Yet another attended Sean Combs’ high school. One person, a producer for HBO who did not work on the Diddy documentary, admitted to hearing “water cooler” talk about it. Dr. Sanford Sherman and his wife of three decades, Aliza Sherman, are going through a contentious divorce from accusations of infidelity to money changing accounts. Aliza Sherman receives another blow when she learns her attorney is suspended and she needs to hire another attorney.  Gregory Moore of the Stafford Law Company takes over her case, and Aliza notices red flags from the start. Moore does not prepare for each court appearance, and he continues to ask for continuances,  until the judge finally says there will be no more continuances.  The day before their first day of trial, Attorney Gregory Moore texts Aliza Sherman  to come to his downtown Cleveland office to discuss the case. Standing outside the Stafford Law Company in downtown Cleveland, Aliza Sherman tells   Moore she is going back to wait in her car because it is too cold.  As Aliza Sherman walks back towards her car, she is confronted by a masked individual wearing dark clothing and gloves, the assailant circles behind Aliza then chases the 53-year-old and stabs her over 10 times. She is stabbed her face, neck, right ear, and eight times in her back. As the masked assailant leaves the scene, the mortally wounded nurse calls 911. A Columbia, Missouri, father receives a call from his teenage daughter’s high school, reporting she is absent after missing all her classes. He calls his 15-year-old several times. After receiving no answer, he rushes home from work to check on her. He hopes she simply overslept or missed the bus. But she isn’t there, and some of her belongings, including her phone, are also missing. The teen is immediately reported missing. Police believe she intentionally prepared to leave home. After searches turn up nothing and her phone remains unused since the day she vanished, investigators begin interviewing her friends. Fellow students say she may have been talking to someone online. More than four months later, police find the girl cowering naked in a closet in a Fort Collins, Colorado, home, where she had been forced to work in a snow shoveling business. Sean “Diddy” Combs lost his bid to delay trial, and jury selection begins today as celebrities he once partied with gather for the Met Gala. Combs appeared in court wearing glasses and a pullover after Judge Arun Subramanian allowed him to avoid prison attire during the proceedings. The judge also approved a written jury questionnaire but limited it to 30 questions. The defense seeks insight into potential jurors’ views on topics including multiple sex partners, cheating, intimate partner violence, drug use, rap, and illegal firearm ownership. Prosecutors may call Jennifer Lopez to testify as they attempt to introduce evidence related to the 1999 Club NY shooting. Lopez and Combs fled the club after gunfire wounded three people. Combs’ defense team denies all rape allegations and argues that he lives a consensual swinger lifestyle. Attorney Marc Agnifilo told the court that Combs’ behavior is legal and misunderstood. Prosecutors intend to show that Combs used his businesses to host “Freak Offs” involving male prostitutes and women allegedly coerced into sex acts. At Combs’ last pretrial hearing, prosecutors said he rejected a plea deal. Federal prosecutor Madison Smyser confirmed the offer but declined to disclose the terms. Shari Franke's book, The House of My Mother: A Daughter's Quest for Freedom, details her discovery of the relationship between her mother, Ruby Franke, and business partner Jodi Hildebrandt. In her memoir, Shari says that after her mother’s arrest, she found messages on her laptop confirming the true nature of their relationship. The abuse the children endured came to light when a 12-year-old boy climbed out of a window and ran to neighbors, begging for food and water. The boy is the son of Ruby Franke, a popular blogger known for the YouTube channel 8 Passengers. The home belonged to Franke’s business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt. Neighbors called police. Officers said the boy appeared emaciated and malnourished. They also noted he had “deep lacerations from being tied up with rope” and duct tape around his wrists and ankles. After searching Hildebrandt’s home, police found Franke’s 10-year-old daughter in a similar condition. Both children were taken to a hospital. Franke’s parenting channel, 8 Passengers, which once had over 2 million followers, offered parenting advice. In one video, she admitted to withholding food as a form of punishment. Both women were convicted of aggravated child abuse. After two people were shot on the set of  Rust, many predicted that the Alec Baldwin produced movie would simply remain unfinished.  Director of photography Halyna Hutchins died, and director Joel Souza was wounded. Reports say first assistant director David Halls picked up one of three prop guns set up by armorer Hannah Gutierrez and yelled, “cold gun.” "Cold gun" is industry slang meaning the gun does not contain live rounds. Halls gave the gun to Baldwin, who used it to rehearse a scene. According to the search warrant, Baldwin aimed the weapon at the camera when he fired, striking Hutchins and Souza. Reports suggest crew members used the weapon for target practice earlier that morning. A judge dismissed charges against Baldwin. The actor sued and launched a reality show. *New Kohberger Evidence Reveals What Idaho Roommates Saw the Night of the Murders According to court documents, one of the surviving roommates, identified as "D.M."—referring to Dylan Mortensen—saw one of the victims lying on the floor hours before calling 911. One of the first and most vocal women to speak out about Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse of young girls has died. Virginia Roberts Giuffre's family first announced she took her own life, but her father is asking for her death be investigated. He tells TMZ, Virginia said if she ever died by suicide, not to believe it. Giuffre's attorney told The Sun there were no signs she was contemplating suicide, saying, "There's suicide and then there’s misadventure." Four individuals connected to the Epstein abuse scandal are now dead, including Jeffery Epstein. He committed suicide in prison, but many still question if that's true. Epstein is alleged to have abused dozens of victims by causing them to engage in sex acts with him at his mansion in New York, and at his estate in Palm Beach, Florida. The victims - all underage girls at the time of the alleged conduct - were given hundreds of dollars in cash after each encounter either by Epstein, or by one of Epstein's employees.  The underage girls were initially recruited to provide Epstein with massages, and often did so nude or partially nude. These massages became increasingly sexual in nature, and would typically include one or more sex acts, as specified in the indictment. As alleged, Epstein also paid certain victims to recruit additional girls to be similarly abused. Scott Peterson was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son, Conner, in 2003. He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was later overturned. He is now serving life in prison without parole. The Los Angeles Innocence Project has filed a petition to overturn Peterson’s conviction, citing new scientific evidence and witnesses who support his innocence. Attorneys with the Innocence Project argue that the break-in at the Medina home across the street from the Petersons’ and the subsequent arson of the burglars’ van were not properly investigated. They also allege potential Brady violations by the Modesto Police Department and the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office. The attorneys further claim that medical research has advanced since Peterson’s conviction and now indicates Conner’s fetal growth was consistent with a date of death later than prosecutors presented at trial. Prosecutors maintain that Conner was likely expelled from Laci’s decaying body shortly before the remains were discovered. Wendy Williams’ guardianship battle intensified after sources alleged a judge told her she has no hope of restarting her career. Williams appeared before Judge Lisa Sokoloff, who criticized her niece, Alex Finnie, accusing her of leaking information to the media and threatening sanctions for any future conduct. Williams said she feels like she is in prison as she fights to end her court-appointed guardianship. Almost on cue, the situation escalated when Coterie, the assisted living facility where Williams lives on the fifth floor, called police and claimed Finnie had kidnapped her. According to a report Coterie filed with the NYPD, Finnie evaded staff and took Williams out to an Italian restaurant. After police were called, Williams and Finnie cited the incident as evidence of how restrictive the guardianship has allegedly become. Speaking to paparazzi outside the facility, Finnie noted that Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, claims Williams can come and go freely and that no family visits are blocked. Finnie challenged that, pointing out that staff escorted Williams to the elevator, yet Coterie still called police. “Clearly, they are lying to me when they say I can go out and do what I want to do,” Williams told the interviewer. Williams said she can only leave the facility’s fifth-floor memory unit with permission and an attendant to unlock the elevator. This week, a judge approved an emergency petition filed by Williams’ attorney to move her from what she called a “luxury prison” to a less restrictive environment. 11:16 p.m. Saturday. Princeton police respond to a 911 call about a dead body and a fire in an apartment building. The caller remains cryptic, refusing to answer the dispatcher’s questions about who is dead, why they are dead, or who owns the apartment. Police and first responders surround the building, but nothing prepares them for what they find inside. Matthew Hertgen, 31, answers the door. Inside, officers see a bloody, unresponsive young man with blunt force and laceration injuries covering his body. He is pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators note that one of his eyes has been removed. Nearby, they find a bloody plate, fork, and knife. Officers also discover a bloody golf club and what appears to be the charred remains of a cat. The victim is identified as 26-year-old Joseph Hertgen. Matthew Hertgen is immediately arrested for the murder of his younger brother. The discovery of the bloody plate leads police to believe that, in addition to beating Joseph to death, Hertgen ate his eye. Princeton police have not disclosed a possible motive for the attack. Hertgen is also charged with animal cruelty and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Princeton community is stunned. Residents describe Joseph’s death as devastating and tragic. A police source says no one could have foreseen such violence. Matthew Hertgen, they say, came from what appeared to be a stable, all-American family, with no signs he was capable of such brutality—especially against his own brother. Sources now allege that the decision to plead not guilty came at the urging of his mother, Maryann Kohberger, who reportedly believes he should fight the charges. A conviction could put him on a path toward capital punishment. Jaclyn Diiorio, 26, a hairstylist, and her police officer boyfriend broke up after dating for nearly a year. The relationship had been contentious, with both filing protective orders. After the breakup, Diiorio began dating again and turned to Tinder. During conversations with a match, Diiorio said she wanted her ex dead and asked if he could carry it out, noting that her ex was a Philadelphia police officer. The Tinder date was a police informant and contacted county prosecutors. Detectives notified Philadelphia police, who then informed the officer and identified him as the target. The officer told investigators he met Diiorio when she cut his hair. Ellen Greenberg was found dead in her apartment by her live-in fiancé, Sam Goldberg. She had been stabbed more than 20 times in the back, neck, and torso. Her death was initially ruled a homicide, but after a closed-door meeting, officials changed the ruling to suicide. For more than 14 years, Ellen’s parents, Josh and Sandee Greenberg, have fought to overturn that decision. Now, after settling two lawsuits, the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office will reopen the investigation. Layla Santanello, a young mother from Tennessee, was last seen on June 27, 2023, in a field next to the Americourt Hotel. Employees and guests reported that she appeared erratic and paranoid. Surveillance footage captured Layla walking around the hotel, reportedly knocking on doors and searching for someone. The events leading up to her disappearance began on June 24, three days earlier. Jennifer Santanello, Layla’s mother, received a message from Layla’s Facebook account. The message, sent by Layla’s boyfriend, asked if Layla was in jail or the hospital, saying he hadn’t seen her in more than 24 hours. Later that night, Layla messaged her mother from the same account, writing, “I’m fine mom,” and adding, “I been with a friend. I don’t have a phone to text or call. I’m using someone else’s.” About two weeks later, a series of strange Cash App requests were sent from Layla’s account to both her stepmother, Brittany Zeitler, and her mother. One request for $100 included the subject line “twlmg.” Several more requests followed in quick succession with the same subject line. Jennifer sent $1 to the account and asked if Layla was okay. As the transactions continued, she came to believe that “twlmg” meant “they won’t let me go.” Another message allegedly read, “We have Layla. Easter Sunday is a holy day for Christians around the world. Its celebration brings hope to the nations through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.   Just a month before the start of his trial, Sean "Diddy" Combs faces a third indictment. The new document adds two counts: sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The additional charges focus on “Victim-2,” who prosecutors say Combs recruited, harbored, and transported for coerced commercial sex acts between 2021 and 2024. If convicted, the charges could result in more jail time. Combs pleads not guilty. His legal team argues the allegations are not new and involve the same accusers—former long-term girlfriends who, they say, had consensual sexual relationships with Combs. He insists the encounters prosecutors call “Freak Offs” were mutual decisions between romantic partners to invite others into their relationship. Combs claims the tapes prosecutors plan to introduce as evidence will show all parties as willing participants. Prosecutors say “Victim-1,” also known as Cassie Ventura, plans to testify under her real name. They have asked Judge Arun Subramanian to allow witnesses 2, 3, and 4 to remain anonymous. They argue that revealing their names could lead to significant embarrassment, anxiety, social stigma, and media harassment. A California mother is now charged with murder after driving drunk and killing her 4-year-old daughter. Juliette Acosta, 26, crashed her SUV into a canal. The sound of the crash was loud enough to alert nearby residents, including Acosta’s uncle and a neighbor. Her Subaru SUV landed partially submerged in the water. Acosta’s uncle jumped in, helped her out of the vehicle, but could not find 4-year-old Reagan. When officers arrived, Acosta was no longer at the scene. A deputy immediately entered the water to search the vehicle and found Reagan Herrin still buckled in her seat. With help from Acosta’s uncle, the deputy freed the girl and began CPR as an ambulance arrived. Deputies later found Acosta at a nearby home, reportedly taking a bath. She was arrested and initially charged with felony DUI. Her blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit. Acosta now faces charges of murder, drunk driving, and several related offenses. Karmelo Anthony's bond hearing allowed him to walk free after the judge lowered his bond from $1,000,000 to $250,000. This occurred after the family hired new counsel, Mike Howard, a Dallas criminal defense attorney. The defense used the hearing to discuss the character of the accused killer, Karmelo Anthony, highlighting his role as captain of both his high school football and track teams. Described as the oldest of three children, Anthony had never been arrested prior to the murder. His father testified that he worked at Foot Locker, as well as a second job at an H-E-B supermarket, before the stabbing. Prosecutors questioned Andrew Anthony, father of the accused, about why Karmelo Anthony's bond should be reduced, given that the family had already raised over $400,000 from a crowdfunding site. Anthony stated that he has no access to the donated funds and cannot afford to pay the million-dollar bond. Anthony's lawyers argued that the money is not intended for bail but should be used for his legal defense. As the defendant walks free, we learn that the family of Austin Metcalf is dealing with threats and swatting incidents. Metcalf's mother's home was targeted with a false report claiming someone had been shot in the mouth. She was not home when police arrived. Oscar Hernandez is out playing soccer at Whitsett fields when he meets Coach Mario Garcia-Aquino.  Garcia-Aquino approaches Oscar about joining the Huacane Club, telling the boy he’s impressed with his skills. When Garcia-Aquino offers him one on one lessons without charge, Oscar jumps at the chance!  On a Friday afternoon, Coach Garcia-Aquino gives his star student a call, inviting Oscar Hernandez to make some money doing a few odd jobs at his Lancaster home. The teen is immediately interested. Before the 13-year-old gets permission from family, he grabs the next train to Lancaster, a 2-hour trip. Oscar facetimes his brother Josue from the train, telling him Coach will drop him back at home tomorrow morning. Later that night, Josue tries to call Oscar again, but it’s not his little brother that answers, but Coach Garcia-Aquino. Coach tells Josue that Oscar can’t come to the phone because his hands are dirty. Josue tries to ask exactly what time he can expect Oscar home, but the coach waves him off, once again promising he’ll bring Oscar home at a reasonable time Saturday. Saturday morning comes and goes, and Oscar still isn’t home. The teen isn’t answering his phone either. It’s already dark when the Hernandez family finally gets Coach Garcia-Aquino on the phone. The coach says he dropped Oscar off that afternoon in North Hollywood, but strangely, he claims he can’t remember exactly where Oscar got out of the car.
