Carolina Hurricanes: Seth Jarvelous on Cam Ward night!

Seth Jarvis notched his first career NHL hat trick, Andrei Svechnikov dished out (some big hits and) 3 assists, and Antti Raanta was excellent in net as the Hurricanes smacked the Canadiens, 6-2, on the night the Canes inducted Cam Ward into the team's Hall of Fame. It was the second straight win for the Hurricanes who padded their Metropolitan Division lead to 5 points as the Devils were losers in St Louis on Thursday night.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After bouncing back in DC

The Hurricanes kept it simple in their 3-2 win in Washington. They got to the front of the net to create traffic in front of the Capitals' goal. They got pucks through from the blue line and the Canes scored two of their three goals on net front deflections. Throw in 34 Freddie Andersen save and you have the recipe for a 3-2 win. Brent Burns, Paul Stastny and Stefan Noesen scored and Noesen added an assist hitting for 2 points for the 4th time this year. Carolina is off Wednesday before coming back to PNC Arena on Thursday to induct Cam Ward into the Hurricanes Hall of Fame

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After being snapped by the Rangers again

Artemi Panarin scored 4 goals, 3 in a decisive third period as the Rangers beat the Hurricanes 6-2 at PNC Arena. The loss ended Carolina's 7 game winning streak and trimmed their lead over the Devils to 3 points in the Metropolitan Division. The Canes led 2-1 on goals from Teuvo Teravainen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi until Panarin's 1st goal, with just over 2:00 remained in the 2nd period. From that point on, the Hurricanes sort of fell apart. Panarin's 2nd of the night was the product of a Vincent Trocheck steal and proved to be the game winner. Carolina is off until playing in Washington on Tuesday.

Carolina Hurricanes: Before we get back to the games...

What is going to happen at the trade deadline? What goes into getting ready for the Stadium Series game? The answers to those questions are right here as I'm joined by Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal and The Athletic to talk about what may -- or should -- happen over the next few weeks. Then a conversation with Steve Mayer of the NHL who's in charge of putting on the party that is the Stadium Series game against the Caps.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After closing the 1st half in style

Canes won their 7th straight, 5-1 over the Buffalo Sabres and head into the All Star break with a 10-game point streak. Sebastian Aho scored for the 6th consecutive game, netting a power play goal early in the 1st period. Stefan Noesen, Brent Burns, Derek Stepan and Jordan Martinook each scored, with Martinook's coming shorthanded into an empty net to close out the scoring. The Hurricanes have 8 shorthanded goals since the start of January and have only allowed 9 power play goals. Now, everyone is headed to a beach until we resume the schedule Saturday, February 11 at PNC Arena against the Rangers.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After Aho caps royal comeback in 5-4 OT win over Kings

Sebastian Aho's 22nd goal of the year capped a 4-goal comeback as the Carolina Hurricanes won for the 6th straight time. The Canes entered the 3rd period trailing 4-1 after an utterly disastrous 2nd period. Carolina was a puck management and decision-making catastrophe in the middle frame and the mistakes cost them on 3 of the four goals -- at least. But, similarly to Friday's win over the Sharks, this team doesn't understand that sometimes it's just not your night. And, when Paul Stastny potted a rebound of a Derek Stepan shot 3 1/2 minutes into the 3rd period, you could sense the difference. Jordan Staal scored 6 minutes later to draw within 1. Then Teuvo Teravainen's power play goal leveled the score. Freddie Andersen won his 6th straight decision since returning from injury. Canes are in Buffalo Wednesday night as they close out the pre All Star Game portion of the schedule.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After the PK beats the Bruins

Special teams won the day as the Hurricanes beat the Boston Bruins, 4-1, at PNC Arena. Paul Stastny scored a power play goal, Jordan Staal scored a shorthanded goal into an empty net and the Canes' penalty kill was a perfect 6 for 6 in sending the Bruins to their third straight loss. Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis also scored in the win, Carolina's 5th in a row as they also extend their point streak to 8 consecutive games (7-0-1).

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After a wild comeback win

With less than 2 minutes remaining, the Hurricanes trailed the San Jose Sharks, 4-2. But, Sebastian Aho's second goal of the period gave them a chance and Martin Necas' 20th of the year forced overtime. From there, just put Marty on the ice and go warm up the car. Necas scored his 2nd OT goal in as many games and his 3rd of the year. This one came off a feed from Andrei Svechnikov (2 assists) just 55 seconds into extra time. Antti Raanta got the win and extends his personal point streak to 11 games. The last time Raanta lost in regulation was November 12. Canes are back at it Sunday at 5:00 against the Boston Bruins.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After the OT Marty Party in Dallas

The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 in overtime when Martin Necas does what Martin Necas does: scores overtime goals against the Stars. For the second time this year, Necas beat Dallas in extra time, the first coming in December's 5-4 win in Raleigh. Sebastian Aho scored shorthanded, Brent Bruns added a goal and Antii Raanta came off the bench for an injured Frederick Andersen to stop all fifteen shots in the win.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After Aho's second hat trick

Sebastian Aho broke open a 2-2 game with 3 consecutive goals as the Carolina Hurricanes skated past the New York Islanders, 5-2, at UBS Arena on Long Island. Aho's 15th goal came in transition, off a feed from Teuvo Teravainen, and put the Hurricanes ahead, 3-2, in the 2nd period. Aho's second was entirely his doing, stealing a puck deep in the Islanders zone and beating Ilya Sorokin past the blocker side. His third was a hard-working empty net slider and closed out the scoring. Jordan Staal had a goal and an assist in the win. The Hurricanes are off until Wednesday when they play in Dallas.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After a downer of a 5-2 win

The Carolina Hurricanes gave up the first goal but scored the next five in a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. Frederik Andersen was stellar for the second straight start and Carolina once again got tons of offensive production from the blue line in the win. But, all excitement was lost when Max Pacioretty went down with a non-contact injury to his lower right leg, the same one that has his surgically repaired achilles. Pacioretty, the pure goal-scorer this team has craved has only played in 5 games for the Canes this year after being acquired from Vegas in the summer. The Hurricanes got goals from Brent Burns, Brady Skjei and Teuvo Teravainen in the 2nd period, and then Jalen Chatfield and Martin Necas in the 3rd. For Skjei, his power play goal gave him 10 on the season -- a career high. Teravainen's goal came shorthanded and snapped an 8-game goal drought. The Hurricanes will next be on the ice on Saturday on Long Island against the Islanders.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After not closing the deal against Vancouver

The Carolina Hurricanes blew a 2-0 first period lead, then a 3-2 lead in the closing seconds of regulation before falling, 4-3, in a shootout to the Vancouver Canucks. Paul Stastny and Jordan Martinook scored first period goals to stake the Canes to the 2-goal lead even though it wasn't by any measure a well-played period. Vancouver brought one goal back in the 2nd period and then leveled the score 7 1/2 minutes into the 3rd. But, Sebastian Aho's goal with just under 3 minutes left should have been the game-winner. I said "should have", it was not. Brock Boeser tied the game with 17 seconds left and then Elias Pettersson won it in the shooout. The Canes have now played an NHL leading 15 overtime games this year with a 7-8 record after regulation.

Carolina Hurricanes: Andersen leads Canes to 2-1 win over Pens

Freddie Andersen made 34 saves as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 2-1, Saturday night at PNC Arena. In fact, Andersen was so good that only he could score into his net. Rickard Rakell's 3rd period power play goal was really more of an epic gaffe by Andersen. About 50 seconds into a 3rd period power play, Penguins star Sidney Crosby lofted a puck high into the air towards the Carolina net. Andersen gloved it but rather than accept a defensive zone face off he tried to flip it up in the air with his glove and bat the puck out of the zone. Alas, the puck was redirected by Rakell into the net for the goal -- the only one Pittsburgh would muster Saturday night. Brady Skjei and Jalen Chatfield each also scored for Carolina who will host Vancouver Sunday afternoon at 5:00

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After getting defensive to snap the skid

Frederik Andersen's first start in almost 10 weeks was the panacea the Hurricanes were looking for. Andersen returned from a lower body injury to make 21 saves and posted a start-to-finish solid game in net for the Canes as they ended the 4-game losing streak with a dominant, 6-2 win over the Blue Jackets. The first five goals came from the blue line as Brett Pesce scored twice, Brent Burns, Jaccob Slavin and Jalen Chatfield added goals -- with Chatfield's coming shorthanded -- and Seth Jarvis broke through after an 11-game goal drought to close out the scoring.

Carolina Hurricanes: Struggles in net doom Canes to 4th straight loss

Everything was going well until there was about 1 minute left in the 2nd period. Then the Devils scored twice in an 18 second span and Carolina went on to lose to New Jersey, 5-3, for their 4th straight loss. Pyotr Kochetkov struggled for the 3rd straight game and Carolina wasted two shorthanded goals, one by Jesperi Kotkaniemi and the other by Sebastian Aho in the loss. Carolina will head to Columbus to try and snap the skid on Thursday night.

Ep 9 Canes 25th Anniversary The greatest games in Canes history

From the Shock at the Rock to the Miracle at Molson to Game 7's in Washington and Raleigh, Adam is joined by Mike Sundheim of the Hurricanes and Luke DeCock of the News and Observer to talk about the games that have shaped this franchise.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After emptying the barrel to no avail

The Carolina Hurricanes fired 67 shots at Nashville goalie Juuse Saros -- a franchise record number -- but only got 3 of them through and lost, 5-3. Carolina has now dropped 2 straight after winning 11 in a row. Max Pacioretty made his Hurricanes debut, had 6 of the Hurricanes' record total shots, but couldn't find the range. Andrei Svechnikov had a team-high 8 SOG and 10 individual scoring chances but didn't register a point in the loss. On the bright side, Andrei was selected to the Metropolitan Division All Star Team on Thursday. His 19 goals lead the Hurricanes and this will be his first All Star Game appearance. The Canes got goals from Paul Stastny, Brady Skjei and Jordan Staal in the losing effort. Next up, Saturday afternoon at Columbus.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After all good things must come to an end

The Carolina Hurricanes' 11-game winning streak came to a halt at Madison Square Garden last night as the Rangers rallied with three 3rd period goals in a 5-3 win. Artemi Panarin, K'Andre Miller and Filip Chytl turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 win as the Canes also saw their 17-game streak with at least a point come to an end. Brent Burns, Martin Necas and Jalen Chatfield all scored for Carolina which lost in regulation for the first time since the day before Thanksgiving. Pyotr Kochetkov made his first start in 2 weeks and suffered his first regulation loss since that November 23rd game at home against Arizona. The Hurricanes will get back on the bike Thursday at PNC Arena when they welcome in Nino Niederreiter and the Nashville Predators.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After surviving New Jersey in a shootout

Derek Stepan scored twice, Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho added special teams goals and Antti Raanta made 24 saves in a wild shootout win in Newark. Carolina has now won 11 in a row and earned at least one point in 17 straight games (15-0-2). Andrei Svechnikov's shootout goal was the only one to find its way through and when Raanta stopped Jack Hughes penalty try the celebration was on. Carolina now has a 25-6-6 record for 56 points, 7 more than New Jersey in the Metropolitan Division race. Next up, the Rangers Tuesday in New York.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After setting another franchise record

The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Florida Panthers, 4-0, at PNC Arena Friday night extending their winning streak to 10 games. That's the longest in franchise history. It also extends their stretch of getting at least one point to 16 consecutive games, which was already a franchise best. Carolina used special teams to dispatch the Panthers. The Canes scored three times on the power play and turned aside all six of Florida's man-advantage situations. It was the first time all year the Hurricanes rang up three power play goals in a game and the fourth goal came just seconds after another power play expired. Stefan Noesen, Andrei Svechnikov, Teuvo Teravainen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored goals, while Brent Burns and Seth Jarvis each had two assists. The Hurricanes will next play on Sunday -- New Years Day -- in New Jersey in a game that starts at 3:00.

Carolina Hurricanes: The Morning After the beat goes on

Antti Raanta made 24 saves as the Hurricanes tied a franchise record with their 9th consecutive win. Martin Necas, Jesper Fast and Jordan Martinook each had goals as the Canes beat the Blackhawks, 3-0. It was the second time this year that Carolina beat Chicago 3-0. The last time, on November 14 at the United Center, it was Pyotr Kochetkov's 1st NHL shutout. Tonight it was Raanta's first clean sheet of the season. It's the 5th time the Hurricanes have won 9 in a row, the last coming in the first 9 games of last season. By the way, last year's streak was snapped by the Florida Panthers. Carolina is off until Friday when they welcome in -- wait for it -- the Florida Panthers.

Carolina Hurricanes: Canes beat Flyers, 6-5, win their 8th in a row

The Carolina Hurricanes hung on for a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Friday night, going into the Christmas break on an 8-game winning streak and boasting a franchise best 14 game point streak. The Jordan Staal, Jordan Martinook and Jesper Fast line was the Hurricanes' best -- again -- combining for 3 goals and 5 assists as Carolina built a 6-2 lead through two periods. What happened in the 3rd period is easily flushed because it didn't cost the team anything. But, allowing two shorthanded goals as Philly made the Canes sweat out the finish wasn't ideal. Antti Raanta won his second game in as many nights as Pyotr Kochetkov was nursing a lower body injury. Carolina is off until Tuesday night when they host the Chicago Blackhawks.

Carolina Hurricanes: Staal and Slavin lead Canes past Pens, 4-3 in overtime

The Hurricanes stretched their point streak to 13 games with a 4-3 OT win over the Penguins in Pittsburgh. Jordan Staal's wrap around goal with less than five minutes left in regulation helped send the game into OT. And, once there, Jaccob Slavin finished off a great pass from Seth Jarvis for the win. On the play, Brent Burns recorded the 800th point in his career. In all, Carolina got two goals and four assists from the blue line including Jalen Chatfield's first. Chatfield was bumped up in the lineup due to the absence of Brady Skjei who missed the game for personal reasons. That also allowed Dylan Coghlan to jump back into the team and he posted a pair of assists. The Hurricanes will host the Flyers Friday night at PNC Arena.

Carolina Hurricanes: Kochetkov, Canes regain first place, 4-1.

Pyotr Kochetkov makes 37 saves, Jordan Staal scored his 9th of the season -- and the 5th time in the last 9 games -- and the Carolina Hurricanes reclaimed the top spot in the Metropolitan Division with a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. Jesperi Kotkaniemi opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the opening period winning a couple of net-front battles en route to his 4th goal of the year. Staal and Teuvo Teravainen would score twice in a 2:04 span of the 2nd period, the latter coming while shorthanded, as Carolina led 3-0 after 40 minutes. Stefan Noesen's 6th of the season, late in the 3rd period closed out the scoring. Canes will next play on Thursday in Pittsburgh.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After the Captain steers them to victory

Jordan Staal, Brady Skjei and Derek Stepan each had a goal and an assist to support Pyotr Kochetkov's 9th win as the Canes knocked off the Penguins, 3-2. The win was Carolina's 5th in a row and extends their point streak to 11 straight games (9-0-2). In addition, the two points drags them into a tie with the Devils on 44 points atop the Metropolitan Division with New Jersey coming to PNC Arena on Tuesday night.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After a happy homecoming

The Carolina Hurricanes got goals from Andrei Svechnikov, Derek Stepan and Stefan Noesen in a 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken in their return to PNC Arena for the first time in 19 days. Svechnikov's 16th of the year came off a turnover midway through the first period. Then another forced mistake led to Stepan's 1st, a whistling wrist shot just below the crossbar that beat Seattle's Philipp Grubauer. Stefan Noesen's penal;ty shot goal 2 minutes into the 3rd closed out their scoring. It was the first penalty shot goal Carolina's scored since January of 2016 (Elias Lindholm). Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 15 of the 17 shots he saw for his 8th win (8-1-4). It was his 11th appearance in the last 12 games for the Canes. Carolina is now 4 points behind the Devils in the Metropolitan Division after New Jersey lost at home to the Flyers.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After another Kochetkov shutout

Pyotr Kochetkov made 27 saves, Brady Skjei scored the lone goal of the game and the Canes beat the Red Wings, 1-0 in Detroit. Carolina closes out their longest road trip of the season 5-0-1 and have now extracted at least one point from 10 consecutive road games (6-0-4). The win, coupled with the Devils loss to the Stars (Saturday's opponent at PNC Arena) narrows New Jersey's lead in the Metro to 6 points over the Hurricanes and Penguins. Carolina is 6-0-2 in their last 8 and will host Seattle on Thursday as they open a 4-game home stand.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After suffocating the Islanders

On a night when Carolina was down to 11 healthy forwards the Hurricanes thoroughly dominated the Islanders in a 3-0 win. Pyotr Kochetkov turned aside 16 shots, Paul Stastny scored his first goal of the season and Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jordan Staal added 3rd period goals in the win. The captain's line, with Jordan Martinook and Stefan Noesen, was dominant -- again. Carolina is 4-0-1 on this 6-game road trip that ends Tuesday night in Detroit. In all, the Canes have gone 5-0-4 in their last 9 on the road and are 5-0-2 in their last 7 games.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After leaving SoCal with 3 out of 4 points

The Hurricanes chased the game all night in Anaheim, yielding the 1st score, and was never able to get their nose in front. The result was an OT loss to the Ducks. Three times Carolina tied the score. Three times the Ducks had an answer. Carolina has the rest of the week off as they're playing at the Islanders on Saturday night. Brady Skjei, Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal each scored in the loss and Seth Jarvis extended his point streak to 6 games.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After streaking in Los Angeles

Pyotr Kochetkov made 31 saves, Sebastian Aho, Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov each scored as the Hurricanes beat the Kings, 4-2 in Los Angeles. Brent Burns registered a couple of assists and two stellar defensive plays in the win which also marked the return of Teuvo Teravainen. Turbo returned after missing the last 10 games with an upper body injury and played just under 16 minutes. The Hurricanes kept pace with the Devils who won in Philadelphia. Carolina sits second in the Metropolitan Division, 8 points behind New Jersey. The Canes are on the ice next in Anaheim on Tuesday night.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After the St Louis Marty party

The Hurricanes spotted the Blues 2 goals, lost the battle of starting goaltenders and gave up a pair of power play goals. But, when you have Jordan Martinook, Jordan Staal and Jesper Fast on your side, that makes up for a lot of mistakes. The Captain's line was as dominant as ever, Martinook registered his first hat trick since November of 2018 and the Canes won their 3rd in a row.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After Pesce wins another one

Brett Pesce waited 22 games before he scored his first of the year, helping the Canes to beat Calgary, 3-2, on Saturday. That was so much fun, he decided to do it again, converting an Andrei Svechnikov feed into the OT winner as Carolina won for the second straight game, 3-2. Martin Necas (11th) and Svechnikov (14th) each scored, Sebastian Aho dished off a pair of assists. And, Carolina overcame the downer of Jake Guentzel's game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation to win their second in a row. The Hurricanes will try to make this a winning streak in St. Louis on Thursday

Carolina Hurricanes: See, the Hurricanes CAN win a hockey game!

The Carolina Hurricanes rode their power play to a 3-2 win over Calgary Saturday night, snapping a 5-game losing streak. The 5 game winless stretch tied the longest in the Rod Brind'Amour regime as head coach. Seth Jarvis broke an 11-game goal scoring drought and Martin Necas and Brett Pesce scored on the power play which now has 4 goals in their last two games. For Pesce, it was his first goal of the season and it was the game winner at 8:46 of the third period. Antti Raanta made 18 saves in the win, his first since November 4 against the Sabres. The Canes start a 6-game road trip Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After a Boston OT loss

The Hurricanes winless streak continued with a 3-2 overtime loss in Boston. On the bright side, Carolina did score two power play goals. But, they failed on their next four tries and ultimately gave up a 2-0 lead when the second of David Krejci's two goals beat Pyotr Kochetkov midway through the 3rd period. David Pastrnak's 14th goal of the year won it for the Bruins in overtime. Boston is now 12-0-0 at home this season, the best in NHL history to hope a home schedule.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After absolutely nothing

The Hurricanes were shut out by the Coyotes, 4-0, on Thanksgiving eve. Carolina is winless since last Monday in Chicago and have scored just 18 goals in their last 9 games. The power play is scoreless in their last 6 games and is just 1 for the last 28. But, it's Thanksgiving, so enjoy your family and we'll run it all back on Friday when the Canes meet the Bruins in Boston.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After stealing a point from Winnipeg

With six minutes to play in Winnipeg Rod Brind'Amour threw up his hands, yanked rookie goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov from his crease and tried something -- anything -- to spark his team. What happened next -- goals from Jaccob Slavin, Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Necas -- is really sports in a nutshell. Anything can happen because these games are the greatest, unscripted reality shows on TV. Carolina scored 3 times in 4:09 to force overtime....where they promptly lost the game to Josh Morrissey's second goal of the game. Maybe this will still get Carolina's attention.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After an OT loss to the Avs

Carolina dominated the shot chart, had more than twice the puck possession and triple the scoring chances -- especially those in the high danger areas -- but could only muster two goals and fell in overtime to the Avalanche, 3-2. The Hurricanes are either lucky or unlucky to be 10-5-2 on the season. Either way, we're bound to find out over the next few weeks. Nine of the Hurricanes next 11 games are on the road beginning Saturday night in Minnesota.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After Koochie shuts down Chicago

Pyotr Kochetkov made 27 saves as the Hurricanes shut out the Blackhawks, 3-0. Jordan Staal and Jordan Martinook each had a goal and an assist in the win as Carolina moved to 10-5-1 on the season.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After being star struck in Denver

Mikko Rantanen factored in on all four Colorado goals and the top 5 scorers totaled all of the Avalanche points in the 4-1 win over the Hurricanes. Rantanen assisted on the first three Colorado goals before icing the game with a full-court sling into an empty net. Cale Makar scored twice and Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist. Jordan Staal had Carolina's only goal and Antti Raanta made 24 saves in the loss.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After a Russian hat dance

Andrei Svechnikov's second hat trick of the season -- again, versus the Oilers -- leads Carolina to a dominating, 7-2 win over Edmonton. Andrei now has 6 of his 11 goals this season against the Oilers. Carolina put 11 different players on the scoresheet, including 6 with multiple points. Pyotr Kochetkov was dynamite in net, making 20 saves. The 23-year old rookie also provided the highlight of the entire evening with a dazzling poke check to deny Edmonton's Zach Hyman a breakaway goal in the second period.

Carolina Hurricanes: Morning After getting skunked in Florida

The Hurricanes suffered their first shutout defeat of the season tonight, 3-0, at the hands of the Florida Panthers. The Canes finally got great goaltending -- this time from Antti Raanta -- but couldn't support it with any offense. Carolina has now gone 111:49 without a goal dating back to the first period against Toronto.

Morning After the Canes fall to the Leafs

Does Carolina have a goaltending problem? Freddie Andersen lets in a late 3rd period bad goal as the Canes lose, 3-1, at home to the Maple Leafs. The Canes had plenty of chances to make that a moot point early in the game, but they were unable to get the puck behind Toronto's Erik Kallgren after taking a 1-0 lead in the opening period. Stefan Noesen scored the only Hurricanes goal, on a first period power play, as Carolina's record falls to 8-3-1 on the season.

Morning After slicing up the Sabres

Sebastian Aho notched his 5th career hat trick and Martin Necas added to his team-leading point total as Carolina beat Buffalo, 5-3, at PNC Arena. The Hurricanes are now 8-2-1 on the year, one point up on the Devils in the Metropolitan Division. Andrei Svechnikov, Teuvo Teravainen and Seth Jarvis all has a pair of assists and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his first goal of the season in the win. Antti Raanta allowed a couple of shaky first period goals, but rallied to play a very strong game for the final two periods as he runs his record to 3-0-1 on the year.

Morning After another extra time win

The Hurricanes overcame the Lightning -- and their own penalty issues -- in a 4-3 shootout win in Tampa. Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen scored in the shootout. But, it was Brady Skjei's shorthanded goal that got the Canes that far. Seth Jarvis and Martin Necas also scored in the win. Necas has 14 points through 10 games to lead the Hurricanes in scoring.

E8 Canes 25th Anniversary: The best deals in Hurricanes history

What were the best trades or free agent signings in Carolina Hurricanes history? We discuss with News & Observer columnist Luke DeCock and Hurricanes VP of communications Mike Sundheim.

Morning After shooting out the Caps

The Carolina Hurricanes needed extra time for the second straight game. But, they came away with a 3-2 shootout win over the Washington Capitals to move back in front in the Metropolitan Division. Stefan Noesen and Andrei Svechnikov each scored, Martin Necas continued his torrid start with a pair of assists, and Freddie Andersen stopped Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome in the shootout to seal the win. Canes are off until Thursday night when they play the Lightning in Tampa.

Morning After Marty steals 2 points from Philly

It was not Carolina's finest performance. But, sometimes you get away with it because you have players talented enough to erase all the mistakes. Saturday night in Philadelphia Martin Necas was the "eraser" to the Hurricanes' pencil. His 3rd period goal gave them a chance. Then his overtime patience and supreme skating ability created Brent Burns' game-winner and gave the Canes 2 points they probably didn't deserve.

Morning After a rough homecoming

Carolina's return to PNC Arena turned out to be a horror show of mistakes even as we're a few nights short of Halloween. The Hurricanes turned the puck over enough to give the Islanders great scoring chances and that was enough for a 6-2 loss. Carolina heads back out on the road Saturday against the Flyers in Philadelphia

Morning After closing the road trip on a winning note
The Hurricanes finished off a 5-game, 11-day road swing through the Pacific Division with a 3-2 win in Vancouver. The Hurricanes got goals from Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho and Jesper Fast in the win. Brent Burns played his best game in a Hurricanes uniform and helped the Canes control the game from start to finish. Carolina is off until Friday when they host the Islanders at PNC Arena. Morning After being powerless in OT loss in Calgary
The Carolina Hurricanes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Calgary thanks to goals from Sebastian Aho and Calvin de Haan. But, that's where the fun ended. The Flames rallied to beat Carolina in overtime, 3-2, thanks in part to a Hurricanes power (play) outage. The Canes had 6 minutes of power play time in the 3rd period and did nothing with it.
