WCPEver Episode 334 - DC Changes and Comic Talk

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, it's been a while since we have had a chance to just talk about comics. Sure, we put out a podcast last week and talked comics then. But this is a week when we could just get into our reading piles and review some reads. We also spend some time discussing changes and speculation regarding DC Comics. Staffing changes were made last week, and not in a good way as many editors were let go. Add in the rumor mills that hint that DC may be looking at a digital-only approach to the monthly titles. And what does this mean for Wonder Woman 84? Of course, we are going to have things to say about all of this! As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. Don't let those pull books pile up, loyal listeners! Buy those comics, read them, then send us a note and tell us about them. We finish the episode with a discussion of the most recent episodes of The Mandalorian. HAVE WE TOLD YOU LATELY HOW MUCH WE LOVE THIS SERIES? AND THEN YOU BRING IN KATIE SACKHOFF??? OMG, THIS SHOW HAS ALL OF THE FEELS! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjoy the show. The Worst. Comic. Whether it is new comics, trade paperbacks, action figures, statues, posters, or T-shirts, the friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you find whatever it is that you need. WCPE Episode 333 - The 27 Run Crush with Justin Zimmerman

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, Cullen and Jerry sit down with writer Justin Zimmerman to talk about his upcoming book, The 27 Run: Crush. The original book, The 27 Run, came out in 2018 and is still available via Amazon, Comixology, or the publisher A Wave Blue World's website. The book can be summed up as Mechs vs Monsters with a black-comedy twist. If you are a fan of Godzilla or the Pacific Rim movies, this is the title for you! Now the sequel, The 27 Run: Crush, is set to hit comic book store shelves in January. You can place your order now with your LCS, as it is in the current Previews catalog. In addition, the hardcover collection of the entire The 27 Run: Crush series will be available in March 2021. With a background in film, Justin brings a distinct approach to his storytelling, helping to transform a cinematic concept into a printed collection. Joining Justin on the Run is artist Russ Brown and colorist Fran Gamboa, whose combined output reminds one of George Perez and looks outstanding on the printed page and the digital screen. In addition, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. Don't let those pull books pile up, loyal listeners! Buy those comics, read them, then send us a note and tell us about them. Finally, we wrap things up with some comic chit-chat about Marvel Unlimited and future story plans for DC comics. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 332 - Wherever I Go, He Goes

With all of the craziness in our world right now, a little bit of calmness returned to our lives last Friday with the release of episode 1 of The Mandalorian Season 2 on Disney +. This is the way. With a return to Tatooine, and appearances by Tusken Raiders, Jawas, and the Boba Fett armor, all is well with Cullen and Jerry as they gush over the first episode. In addition, we each got the chance to read the concluding issue of Batman: Three Jokers from DC Comics. We share our wrap-up thoughts and how this impacts the world of the Dark Knight going forward. It's been a while since we checked in on our #My500ComicGoal challenge. Jerry reached the 1500-book mark on Halloween, which means it's time for another Darwyn Cooke Parker book. WCPEver Episode 331 - Nerd Mental Health with Angie Pedersen

OK, let's get real this week. There is a lot going on in the world right now. I mean, we always have to deal with whatever life gives us, right? But right now life seems to be giving all of us more than we can handle. Whether it's the pandemic, staying at home, concerns about finances or health, the contentious election cycle, or any other number of high-stress issues in our lives, it's pushing a lot of people right now to their breaking point. We see it from you. Heck, we see it in ourselves. And sometimes, you have to be willing and able to say, "Help!". On this week's show, we brought in friend-of-the-show Angie Pedersen, who runs the KC Geeks blog. In fact, her most recent post on the blog is Coping with Depression and Anxiety. Angie has also helped run mental health panels at our local cons - check out her recap of her panel at the 2018 Planet Comicon. Angie sat down with Cullen and Jerry for a free-form conversation about identifying issues, tricks to help cope with life, and ways to seek out assistance. We share based on our own collective experiences and hope that something we said in this episode can be of help to you. WCPEver Episode 330 - La MANO del DESTINO Kickstarter with J. Gonzo

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are joined in the studio by comic creator J. Gonzo, who has a new Kickstarter for La MANO del Destino, a Lucha Libre tale set in Mexico in the 1960s. Think wrestling with a Mad Men vibe, and you are on board for this project. What makes this project so unique is that the project is a flipbook. On one side, you can read the six-issue series in English. Flip the book over and you can read the six-issue series in Spanish. In between the two collections are pages of bonus material and pin-ups, giving you a 400-page book for your support. Now I know you're thinking, what about the rewards? Seriously, you want more than just the book? Well, there's art prints, doodles, the original comics... oh, and a LUCHA MASK! Name one other comic Kickstarter offering you a kick-butt Lucha mask to wear while reading this book. We'll wait here while you compile your list. You owe it to yourself to check out the campaign video on the Kickstarter page. We swear on the spirit of sweet baby Jack Kirby that this is the best promotional video ever put together for a Kickstarter campaign. Gonzo was answering our questions before we could even think of them. The video alone should get you to back the project, and the finished book is just bonus comic goodness. Now, the campaign is in the final two weeks, so we really need you to review this project today and show your support! Books will be in your hands for the holidays, so keep it for yourself or give it away as a gift. (Or buy two books, one for yourself and one to give away!) Sadly John couldn't join us this week, but he still gave us his choice for our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by Clint's Comics. As always, if you are supporting your local comic book stores, AND YOU SHOULD, remember to wear masks and gloves. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 329 - Batman: Three Jokers #2

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Brent Kincade. After all, if we are going to be discussing Batman: Three Jokers, we need a third Joker for the conversation, right? With the release of the second issue, more questions are raised with few answers provided. What are Batman's true feelings about Red Hood? What's going on between Batgirl and Red Hood? And why was Joe Chill in Crime Alley that night? This story has us all shades of confused, but we want more. Give us the third issue now, DC! Cullen shares the details of a recent Kickstarter project that he supported, and Jerry got in a reward from a Kickstarter last spring. We also run down what we have been reading lately, with Jerry pushing to reach 2,000 books read by the end of the year. Even though John couldn't join us this week, he still gave us his choice for our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by Clint's Comics. In addition to Cullen's and Jerry's selections, Brent chimes in with a DC Halloween book that has us intrigued. WCPEver Episode 319 - So You Want to Record a Podcast

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Cullen and Jerry are joined in the studio with friend-of-the-show Rick Heinichen, whose dulcet tones can be heard every other week on his own podcast, Unpacking the Power of Power Pack. The guys discuss the oft-wondered question of what it takes to start your own podcast. The path you take can vary from person to person, but you're going to encounter a lot of the same decisions each time. We share our experiences in bringing our respective shows to life. Of course, we have updates on our #My500ComicGoal. We're going to remind you that it's not too late to join in on the fun. Want to get started? Pick up a comic and start reading! WCPEver Episode 317 - The Comics That Made Us!

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: First off, we are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Brent Kincade, who we have been trying to get on the show for like five years. Brent designed our logos and wrote the lyrics to WCPE in Kansas City. We are delighted to finally get him on the line for a podcast recording. This week, we were inspired to talk about the comics that inspired us. A week or so ago, this was a trending topic in social media, but we wanted to take our time with making our picks. Fair warning, we love to talk about our favorite comics, so this is going to be a long discussion. Make yourself comfortable as we dive into the books that impacted our lives. We take a minute to honor the late Representative John Lewis, a civil rights leader, a long-time Congressman, and the writer of the award-winning March graphic novel series. Of course, we have updated on our #My500ComicGoal, including some recent reads from Brent. We're going to remind you that it's not too late to join in on the fun. Want to get started? Pick up a comic and start reading! As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for new books out today. Make sure to visit your local comic book store - such as Clint's Comics - but please do wear a mask and gloves. Capes are optional but encouraged. We would love to hear your comments on the show. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We are halfway through the year and quickly reaching the dog days of summer. The hot weather in the midwest is encouraging us to find a comfy seat in the shade and read a stack of books. Tune in to find out what has been in our reading queues. TV shows are going batty this summer, as word dropped this past week of a new Batwoman and a new Batman-based TV series for HBO. As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for new books out today. WCPEver Episode 315 - Heroes and Villains

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Following John's read of some old Thunderbolts issues from Marvel, we dive into the concept of Heroes and Villains. So many times in comics, those characters switch sides, with the good guys becoming bad and the bad guys finding redemption. Is there any hero that cannot turn bad? It's a fun discussion as we examine the concept. Or course, we are going to review our recent reads over the last week for the #My500ComicGoal. Jerry stopped in at our favorite comic book store in the whole wide world, Clint's Comics, and came home with a nice stack of new books. Make sure to visit your local comic book store - such as Clint's - but please do wear a mask and gloves. Capes are optional but encouraged. As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for new books out today. Marvel and DC are back to work with some new floppies, so we have our three picks from those two publishers. WCPEver Episode 314 - Inviting Women to the Table

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We take a look at our recent reads over the last week for the #My500ComicGoal. Lots of great books in our queues, which makes for some fun discussions. We discuss the story of former Batgirl writer Mairghread Scott, who revealed on Twitter this past week that she quit working for DC Comics over their failure to include her in the Bat-summits. This led to a flurry of other creators sharing similar experiences. John has started watching the new season of Doom Patrol, while catching up on Harley Quinn, too. Cullen and John compare the reward programs associated with the Marvel Unlimited app and the DC Universe app. And has anyone EVER redeemed points for a desktop wallpaper? As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for new books out today. Marvel and DC are just pushing collected editions out this week, so we have an eclectic mix of titles from the likes of Image, Dynamite, and Ahoy Comics. Be sure to visit your local comic book store - we would like to suggest our friends at Clint's Comics - but be sure to wear a mask and gloves. Capes are optional but encouraged. WCPEver Episode 313 - #MeToo Time Again For Comics

OK, people, listen up. We have some trouble AGAIN (STILL?) within the comic book industry. Some people have not been playing nice with others like your mothers taught you. And while we're trying to offer some humor with this introduction, this is a serious discussion about people being groomed, targeted, and assaulted, never mind the damage done to everyone's careers. In the last week, we have seen the #MeToo tag resurface in the comic Twitterverse. Male creators have targeted younger female creators, offering up a friendship/mentorship that turns ugly. Our position is that comics do not need this, nor should we accept or tolerate this. We should treat each other as equals with respect. In addition, we offer up our tables at cons as a safe space. Now, besides that, we do have our standard comic talk, with our reads from the last week and our Pick 3 selections for new books out today. Be sure to visit your local comic book store - we would like to suggest our friends at Clint's Comics - but be sure to wear a mask and gloves. Capes are optional but encouraged. WCPEver Episode 312 - Remembering Denny O'Neil

Since we were last together to talk comics, we lost an important part of our comic book community, as the legendary writer/editor Denny O'Neil passed away on Friday. Starting with DC in the late 1960s, Denny quickly made his presence felt on Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League of America, Superman, and his important run on Green Lantern/Green Arrow with Neal Adams. In the late 1970s, he moved over to Marvel and added his take to the tales of Iron Man and Daredevil. In the mid-1980s, Denny returned to DC to serve as the group editor of the Batman books, which he held for 15 years. During that time, Batman exploded everywhere, with movies, the animated series, and new monthly books on the comic shelves. Most importantly, Denny served as a board member for the Hero Initiative, a cause near and dear to our hearts. We lost a true hero this week, and we spend some time recognizing his contributions to the industry. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. We also run down a list of free Marvel books this month spotlighting black creators, which are available to read on the Marvel app and on Comixology. We would love to hear your comments on the show. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We sit down with creator Phil Hester to talk about The Wretch Omnibus from our friends at OmahaBound. The omnibus is now available on Comixology, so we thought this would be a good time to visit with Phil about the origins of Glass City's hero. Phil is also currently working on Family Tree with Jeff Lemire for Image Comics. WCPEver Episode 308 - There's a Stargirl Waiting in the Sky

Last night as news was breaking of one CW star leaving Gotham City, a new shining star took her place on the CW stage of heroes. A new shining Stargirl! Stargirl is based on the 2000 DC series Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., about teenager Courtney Whitmore, who moves with her family to Blue Valley, Nebraska, where she becomes a superhero after finding a cosmic rod in her step-father's garage. Once she overcomes the learning curve for becoming a hero, like managing a secret identity and getting to class on time, Stargirl earns her spot as a valued member of the Justice Society of America. We take a look at the 2000 series, which can be found on the DC Universe app or in a new Stargirl trade paperback available today. Wait, did we just say it's available today? Yes, that's right, the stores are back open as new books resume shipping this week. With the return of new books, we go back to our regular habit of choosing new books each week with our Pick 3 selections. This week we choose between one DC book, one Image book, and one independent book. Can you match up the publisher with the podcaster before you listen? Speaking of new books, as the shipping schedule resumes, it turns out some books will not be returning to bookshelves. DC and Marvel have announced plans to finish up some series as digital-only books. We discuss the pros and cons of the decision. We also have updates on our #My500ComicGoal challenge. WCPEver Episode 306 - From Ciudad to Extraction with Ande Parks

Listen up, friends. Despite the movie theaters being closed, there is still a #1 movie around the world right now - Extraction on Netflix. And if you pay attention to the credits, you will see that this film is based on the Ciudad graphic novel done by friend-of-the-show Ande Parks. For the long-time listeners, you are well aware of Ande Parks by now. As a fixture in the Kansas City comic book scene and a wearer of hats, Ande joined us back on Episode 37 when Ciudad was first published. In the five years since that recording, Ciudad was optioned, went through a few script revisions and title changes, and debuted at the end of April as Extraction starring one of those Chris guys from the Marvel movies. Ande has a print for sale of Extraction's main character Tyler Rake for sale over at his website. Be sure to pick up one (or two or three...) Also, we turn our attention to creator Neal Adams for our Pick 3 choices. With a career starting in the early 1960s, we have a lot of books to choose from Adams' credit list. ZOWIE! on Amazon, both as a print edition and a Kindle edition. We focus our attention on creator Bill Sienkiewicz for our Pick 3 choices. In the spirit of the show, we all bring up Bill's cover to Batman #400, but we each have a different book (or poster!) that we would want him to sign. Finally, we check in on our reading progress for the #My500ComicGoal challenge. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. WCPEver Episode 304 - The Return of DC Comics?

On this week's episode of the Worst.Comic. Podcast. EVER! Jerry sat in on a Q&A session with writer/artist Jeff Lemire. This was a fund-raiser for the Hero Initiative, allowing fans to chat with some of their favorite creators. Jerry asked about Jeff's work on The Terrifics at DC, which seemed to mirror the Fantastic Four just a little bit. We focus our attention on creator Walt Simonson for our Pick 3 choices. The man with the dinosaur signature has a long career filled with desirable books to get autographed! How are we going to pick just one book each? DC Comics made a big announcement at the end of last week, making plans to start shipping books by the end of April, albeit with someone other than Diamond. As you can imagine, we had a fun conversation with this topic. Finally, we check in on our reading progress for the #My500ComicGoal challenge. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 303 - Talking Comics with Jim McClain

On this week's episode of the Worst.Comic. Podcast. EVER! We are joined by friend of the show and Solution Squad creator Jim McClain, who sits in with us to discuss all things comic! We focus on creator George Perez for our Pick 3 choices. Man, it is so hard to keep this to just one book from each of us this week. We try to look into the future and imagine what the comic industry in the future - will we still have comic books, and will we still have comic book shops? We also check in on our reading progress for the #My500ComicGoal challenge. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Welcome back to the Worst.Comic. Podcast. EVER! The great thing about doing this podcast with your friends is that we have something to look forward to each week with our recording sessions. Sometimes, we get the recording done in an hour and we are on our way. And sometimes, we re-do half of the episode because we didn't realize the recording had stopped. Anyway, we hope that our podcast is something that you look forward to each week. Whether you listen to it on Wednesday when it is released, or you wait until later on to give us a listen. We appreciate everyone who takes the time to give our show a try each week. For our Pick 3 choices, which is sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics, we once again are spotlighting a classic comic creator, as we choose one book that we would want that creator to autograph. For this week, we look at writer/artist John Byrne and his legendary career. From X-Men to Fantastic Four to Alpha Flight to Superman to Next Men, there is no one correct answer. WCPEver Episode 301 - Forging Ahead While Staying At Home

We're back! Not that we weren't going to come back, but the conversation had to be held - what do we do after episode 300? How do we top that or improve on that or even just do another show ever again? But we looked at the news of the week - NO NEW COMICS ON WEDNESDAY - and we rose to the challenge. Can we talk about comics for an hour without any new product? The answer is YES! Of course, with no new comics, we had to do something different with our Pick 3 choices, which is sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. But inspiration struck through an email, and a new concept was developed. Each week until this comic crisis ends, we will take a look at a classic comic creator, and we will each pick one book that we want that creator to autograph. For this first week, we look at writer/artist Frank Miller, and his legendary career. From Wolverine to Daredevil to Batman to Sin City to Martha Washington, there is no one correct answer. Tune in to hear our picks, and get an early start on next week's pick. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. WCPEver Episode 300 - A Podemic of Podcasts LIVE

LIVE from Kansas City and Portland, It's the WORST. COMIC. PODCAST. EVER! Episode 300 show! Seriously, when we started this show back in 2014, the thought that we would do this for at least 300 episodes had not crossed our minds. We'll do it for a little bit until we got bored, or it became too much like work. Along the way, some of you started listening. Then more of you started listening. And we realized this could be our ticket to stardom. (Still waiting on that to finally happen....) So instead of recording this panel live at Planet Comicon in front of friends and family, we opted to record it live over the Internet. We got together, talked about some comics, played a game (see the slides here: Slideshow! ), and then took participants' questions about comics, movies, tv, and the other nerdy things in our lives. We want to thank everyone who has been part of our journey to episode 300, and we hope you stick around for even more fun stuff! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. WCPEver Episode 299 - Social Distancing Since 1982

So, since we were last gathered together, the world as we know it turned upside down and inside out. Planet Comicon this weekend? Nope, scratch that, let's push that out to August 14-16. Kids going back to school next week? Nope, scratch that, let's push that out to August, too. We got a lot of thoughts bouncing around in our heads right now, and we spend most of the time working through them. We would love to hear your thoughts on our various topics, so please write in and let us know. (We would offer for an in-person discussion, but that has been pushed out to August as well.) As a side note, we still have episode 300 coming up next week. We can't get together for a panel, so who wants to join us online for the recording of the episode? Details should be posting shortly. We still do have our Pick 3 choices for books coming out today in shops all over. We do want to remind you that your local comic shops still need your support, so contact your store and find out what their policies are going to be for the next few weeks as we figure out what the new normal looks like. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. WCPEver Episode 298 - PDX Pop Up Con Preview

We are counting down the days when we can see our friends at Planet Comicon in Kansas City, but before that, we have another con to tell you about. With the postponement of Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, originally scheduled for March 12-15, the comic community in the Pacific Northwest was left wondering what to do next? For many creators and vendors, they were counting on ECCC as a source of income. For fans, this was an event that they had been planning on attending for some time. So the brilliant team at PDXComicsArts.com decided to put on a comic convention in Portland, hosted at different comic book stores around the city. Within hours of the ECCC announcement, PDX Pop Up Con was up and running. We sat down with Indigo Kelleigh from PDXComicsArts.com and Katie Proctor with Books With Pictures to discuss what it takes to put together a city-wide con in just one week. While we cover a lot of content on the show, this is a fast-moving con, so please click the link above to get the most up-to-date info for the PDX Pop Up Con. As a reminder, make plans to attend the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel at Planet Comicon on March 20 at 7:30 PM. We will be in 2505A talking comics, playing games, and giving away great prizes. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. WCPEver Episode 297 - Banana Tail Kickstarter with Mark McKenna

Welcome to the Jungle! As in the Checkerboard Jungle! We've got a special show lined up this week, as John and Jerry sit down to talk with comic creator Mark McKenna about his new Kickstarter project, Banana Tail and the Checkerboard Jungle. If you came of age reading comics in the 1980s or 1990s, the odds are extremely high that you read a book that McKenna worked on. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and many more, if you name a character, it's a safe bet that Mark has multiple credits with said character to his name. In 2003, Mark created Banana Tail, inspired by characters created by his father. Over the last 17 years, Banana Tail has been featured in multiple formats and venues. This week, Mark launched a Kickstarter to help fund the latest adventures of Banana Tail. We think this is a great project and have already supported the Kickstarter, which runs through March 31. Click the link above to review the project, and check out the rewards - specifically the portfolio with Banana Tail prints from the likes of Greg Horn and Walt Simonson. You definitely need more Banana Tail in your life, people! But before we get lost in the jungle, we have our weekly segments, like our Pick 3 choices sponsored by Clint's Comics, and our updated reading list as we work towards our respective #My500ComicGoal. As a reminder, make plans to attend the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel at Planet Comicon on March 20 at 7:30 PM. We will be in 2505A talking comics, playing games, and giving away great prizes. WCPEver Episode 296 - Departure of Dan DiDio from DC

We must say - this was a good week to be in the business of talking comics. Last Wednesday saw the release of Batman #89, which skyrocketed in price before it could even go on sale in some stores. That was followed on Friday by DC letting Dan DIDio go in a surprising but not unexpected move. Just like that, we have a full episode worth of topics to discuss. Throw in our Pick 3 choices for the week, as well as a look at what we have been reading in the last seven days, and call it a show! As a reminder, make plans to attend the Worst. Comic. Podcast. WCPEver Episode 295 - Bad Idea? Terrific!

It was a busy Sunday evening for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! John and Jerry took in a showing of Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey before heading to the studio to record the show. So we are chockful of opinions and suggestions on the latest entry to the DC Cinematic Universe. We discuss the launch of Bad Idea, a new publishing venture that will put their comics in a limited number of stores to start. These books will not be available on digital or in a collected edition, so you will have to track down the physical comic to read these new stories from some top-notch talent. We debate whether Bad Idea is a bad idea or not. Jerry brought The Terrifics #25, which is a choose-you-own-adventure book done in spectacular fashion. If we were really smart, we would have you fast forward to the 30-minute mark for Jerry's take or go to the 32-minute mark for John's take. We have updates on our #My500ComicGoal from the last week. We round things out this week with our Pick 3 choices for new books coming out TODAY! Finally, start making your plans to attend the Worst. Comic. Podcast. WCPEver Episode 294 - Wednesday is the New Friday

So we got some bad news and good news for you this week. Let's start with the bad news first - there will be no new WCPE podcast this Friday. We know, we know, we're all creatures of habit, and not having that show on Friday morning is going to leave a gap in our listening schedule going into the weekend. But here is the good news - THE PODCAST IS NOW COMING OUT ON WEDNESDAYS! Seriously, here is it, the first of our new Wednesday releases. Forget about the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!. Instead, think of us as Wednesday. Comic. Podcast. Excellence! It will take a little getting used to the change, but we are sure you will come to embrace the new schedule as much as we have. Be sure to leave us your comments about the new schedule. Now, as for the show this week: Joker has a new girlfriend, or does he? Maybe she is just a new henchwoman? We discuss the news about Punchline joining the DC Universe later this year. We catch up on the end of the CW Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. We discuss parts 4 and 5, along with the guest cameos, and review the new post-Crisis world that the heroes now serve and protect. Have you seen Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn yet? We haven't yet, but we will still go ahead and discuss the move. (And to support a point made during our discussion, on Tuesday the film was renamed as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. That is a much easier title to say fast five times.) We catch up on our reading for our #My500ComicGoal challenge. With our new release schedules, our Pick 3 choices will be for the new comics coming out that day. We already announced on last week's show our picks for today, but we will have new fresh picks beginning next week. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 291 - Talking Star Trek with Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore

While Cullen was getting things ready this week for Wizard World Portland, John and Jerry decided to talk Star Trek. Sure, we could have discussed it ourselves and put out a decent podcast, but what if we talk to some guys who know Star Trek? Like really know the shows and the characters and the merchandising inside and out? So sit back and enjoy our conversation with Kansas City-based authors Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore. Dayton and Kevin have partnered on multiple Star Trek novels over the years, as well as their projects. Whether it's the original series, Next Generation, the Kelvin universe, or Discovery, these two authors have a lot of insight into what keeps Star Trek relevant after more than 50 years in the pop culture world. This just so happens to coincide with the launch of Picard on CBS All Access. With a lot of familiar faces to reconnect with, people are preparing their Earl Grey tea and are commanding their computers to Make It So as they watch the all-new adventures of Jean-Luc Picard. To get a full list of everything Dayton and Kevin have worked on together, check out DaytonWard.com | Stuff I've Written. In addition to the Star Trek discussion, we have our weekly Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our good friends at Clint's Comics. All three guys voted to "Make Mine Marvel" for books coming out on January 29. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week.
