WORST. COMIC. PODCAST. EVER!

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Finally, we have the chance to get caught up on Andor this week, as Season One finished last week. (What will we do now with our Wednesday nights?) We share our thoughts on the last episodes and the season as a whole. Disney+ was not done with the big releases last week, such as the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Will this become a holiday standard that we watch year after year? All signs point to yes. Jerry found some new Humble Bundles which will catch you on a lot of comics from the last decade plus. Superman is getting his secret identity back. How about a show of hands, who was surprised by this announcement? As always, we have our Pick 3 choices sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We are all back in the studios this week, and we cannot wait to talk about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with you. This movie was everything we were hoping for in the sequel, following the passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. Hear our thoughts about what excited us, inspired us, and moved us to tears. DC Comics announced last week a new initiative for 2023, Dawn of DC. We run down what is in the announcement and what isn't (or should have been) in the announcement. We are going to push back the Andor discussion for just one more week! We will give you recaps of episodes 10-12 to round out season 1 of our favorite Star Wars series. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We are so excited to be able to share our interview with comic creator Richard Pace. If you visited the Hero Initiative table at Planet Comicon last spring, you would have had the chance to meet Richard. We were delighted to be his hosts that weekend, and are more delighted to have him sit in with us to talk about comics. We were nearly 20 minutes into our conversation before we figured we should press RECORD so we could let you in on the wonderful conversation. Between last week's podcast recording and the recording of this episode, the comic industry was hit hard with the loss of three titans - artists Kevin O'Neill and Carlos Pacheco, and voice actor Kevin Conroy. If any of their creative work ever inspired or moved you, consider dropping a buck into the next Hero Initiative bucket you see. We didn't forget to watch Andor this week! We just ran out of time to talk about it. We'll catch up with the two episodes, plus we might have some thoughts to share about the new Black Panther movie. As always, we have our Pick 3 choices sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We're going to lead with our Pick 3 selections this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. There are a lot of really interesting books coming out this week. This could have easily been a Pick 15 week for us if we wanted to. Get into your store this week and pick up some new books - and make sure you are up-to-date with your pull box. We have an interesting discussion on the continuity over at DC Comics. Or maybe it's a lack of continuity. Does continuity matter anymore? Listen to what we have to share, but then let us know what you think about continuity. Some favorite questions are just impossible to answer. Name your favorite kid? Not going to do it if either can hear me. Name your favorite member of the podcast? Inconceivable! Another impossible question is to name your favorite episode of Andor? Episode 9 did not disappoint, as we are just three weeks away from the finale. We've got some random comic talk about new books read, new projects being announced, and a new Humble Bundle offering. We would love to hear your comments on the show. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: See any good trailers this week? Like the new trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania? What about the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming to Disney + later this month? Wowsers!!! Great stuff coming in the next few months from Marvel. DC appears to have found their version of Kevin Feige to oversee their films. Word came out last week that director James Gunn and producer Peter Safron will oversee the DC movies going forward. This has us excited, as well as a lot of other fans. Andor episode 8 did not slow down at all. Seriously, prison life is not that glamorous a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Cullen and John made it out to their respective theaters over the weekend to watch Black Adam on the big screen. There may be mild spoilers but they should not ruin your experience when you do see the film. Andor episode 7 shows just how ruthless the Empire can be. Not that this should come as a surprise, but the Empire was not too happy about the bank heist last episode. So the Empire comes down hard on numerous worlds. By the end of this episode, Andor finds himself convicted and sentenced to prison for six years. Thankfully, we do not have to wait that long for episode 8. Some users of the online DC Universe Infinite, in particular the Ultra plan, have been having some issues with their accounts being deleted. And when we write "some users", we specifically mean John. Thankfully, John's Log-On Crisis has been resolved and he can get back to reading the Dark Crisis books. Jerry got his new box of books from DCBS last week. Find out what he is reading, plus a heck of a deal on a trade paperback from AWA. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Jerry and John are on the road this upcoming weekend, traveling to Sioux Falls, SD, for the 2022 SiouxperCon. They will see some familiar faces that we have seen in Kansas City, as well as some creators that they have never met before. The first three episodes of Andor premiered on Disney+ last week. We discuss what we saw and who we would like to see by the end of the series. So when Jennifer Walters is invited to a wedding, is the She-Hulk automatically considered as her plus one? The latest episode of She-Hulk helps answer that question. Plus we are introduced to Mr. Immortal, which means you can start planning on seeing a Great Lakes Avengers series coming soon, right? We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics, which is celebrating its the 55th-anniversary since it opened its doors back in 1968. Join the celebration this Saturday, October 1. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Last week's episode of She-Hulk answered that question, as well as provided some much-desired screen time for Titania. Jerry made a trip to Clint's Comics for the Batman Day celebration. We discuss a hiring for a movie role, some firings at a publisher, and a comic con explosion that didn't need to happen. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: OK, how many of you made Hammer TIme last weekend to see the new Thor: Love and Thunder movie? Cullen and Jerry did, and we share some spoiler thoughts about the latest Tales of Asgardians. We discuss Episode 5 of Ms. Marvel, which seems to wrap up the family storyline while barely including Kamala on screen. We look at 52 #45, which finds Black Adam on a rampage to kill Death. So he kills a lot of other people, stealing a page out of Thanos' Guide to Picking Up Death. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We have another con coming up three weeks from now. This year, Fountain City Con is growing by leaps and bounds, with four times the floor space and two days of con goodness. To get all of the details for the show, we brought on FCC co-head honcho (and friend-of-the-show!) Barry Poole to talk about the guests, the activities and the opportunities to be had July 30 & 31 in New Century, Kansas. We discuss episodes 3 & 4 of Ms. Marvel, which featured a wedding reception gone wrong, a trip to Pakistan, and the beginnings of the traditional Ms. Marvel costume. We look at 52 #44, which finds Black Adam and Isis taking on the Four Horsemen - but who is left standing? And will Renee ever become the Question? We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We are back from our respective cons from last weekend. John and Jerry got to host panels again, and Cullen met a lot of all-star creators. We discuss the final two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi season one. What a finish! And it turns out that Darth Vader did kill Anakin Skywalker. We look at 52 #43, focusing on the Black Adam family. Osiris resolves one issue and helps to create a new all-consuming threat. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We are trying to get out the door this week to get to our con appearances (Smallville Con and Washington State Summer Con), so this is going to be a short recap. Cullen and John take a look at the solicits for books coming out in August. Make sure to let your local comic store know what to order for you! We look at 52 #42, getting us just ten issues away from the finish line. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Ms. Marvel made its debut on Disney+ last week, and we are all in on the adventures of Kamala Khan. We dive into the first episode and make some guesses for the upcoming season. The fourth episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi reminded us of another Episode IV, as Obi-Wan leads a mission to rescue Princess Leia from an Imperial base. Guess what? Darth Vader was not pleased. We saw the first trailer for Black Adam coming out in October. Is it too soon to ask for a Dr. Fate movie right now? Cullen has a follow-up to our Substack conversation last week, and Jerry has some Humble Bundles to recommend. We look at 52 #41, where we see Renee Montoya take on the Dragon, Ralph gets behind the wheel, and Starfire and Adam Strange make a crash landing on a green planet. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Obi-Wan Kenobi is already at the halfway point of its season, and it continues to amaze us. Especially the return of Darth Vader. But did any else think it was odd that Vader didn't have an adverse reaction to the fire? Say it isn't so, Joe! Longtime editor Joe Quesada announced this past week that he would be leaving Marvel Comics after more than two decades with the company. We look at Joe's time at Marvel and compare it against other similar creators or editors at Marvel. Cullen has a follow-up to our Substack conversation last week, and Jerry has some Humble Bundles to recommend. We look at 52 #40, with the showdown we have been waiting to see for half of a year now, Steel vs. Luthor. And when exactly did Steel get a detachable hand? Is anyone still looking to track down a copy of JLA/Avengers? Listen carefully... We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Obi-Wan Kenobi debuted on Disney+ over the holiday weekend with the first two episodes of the six-episode season. These episodes had all of the feels! Familiar faces, familiar characters, even familiar voices. Seriously, if you did not like these episodes, we would kindly suggest you take a one-way Bantha ride through the Jundland Wastes to the Dune Sea. News surfaced this week of the apparent success (so far) of the 3W3M Substack with features Jonathan Hickman, Mike Hiddleston, and Mike del Mundo. Doing well enough that they are bringing in editor Steve Wacker to oversee the line. So we revisit the Substack concept and if this is now showing more viability as an ongoing channel for your entertainment consumption. We look at 52 #39 where we can assure you that despite the claims on the cover, neither the Question nor Renee Montoya appears in this issue. Oh, and now Lex Luthor has powers. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: The Eisner nominations were announced this past week. A lot of great comics and creators have been recognized and, sadly, a lot of great comics and creators were not recognized (How do you leave out Tom Taylor?) We look at 52 #38 with the long final climb up the mountain for the Question. Seriously like 12 pages of going up the mountain. We got some first trailer looks at She-Hulk, The Boys season 3, and Umbrella Academy season 3. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We are looking ahead to our summer con appearances coming up in the next few months. Expect to see some of us at the Smallville Con, Washington State Summer Con, and Fountain City Con. But the more important question is if we will see you at these shows? We look at 52 #37 with the surprising return of Booster Gold! The last time we saw him, he was caught in an explosion. Yet here he is, alive and well and fighting Skeets! On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: As we recorded this over the weekend, we had just found out about the passing of legendary creator George Pérez. We'll have more to say next week but for now, we say "Thank You" for everything you have done for the comic book industry and for the fans. We all had the chance to see the new Doctor Strange movie. Seriously, we would pay full price for a ticket just to see those cameos. Getting a Sam Raimi film on top of that was just icing on the cake. Listen in as we share our thoughts on the film. We also finished up Moon Knight over on Disney+, so catch those thoughts as well. We look at 52 #36, where a member of the Lost in Space trio is lost, and the Question is somehow still alive. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We say thank you to a true titan of the comic book industry. Neal Adams passed away on April 28. So much of what we know in comics comes back to Adams' drawing table. Like Batman? The Batman you know started with Adams and Denny O'Neil. Like seeing creators get recognition for their characters on the silver screen? That credit goes to Neil. The introduction of Tim Drake as Robin sporting a new costume? That's all Adams. We could spend multiple shows discussing Neil and his legacy in comics. We finally get a chance to wrap up Planet Comicon Kansas City. What a weekend! As always, Kansas City steps up to support the Hero Initiative. We had a blast hanging out at our table with artist Richard Pace. And we are already making plans for Planet Comicon 2023 next March. We look at 52 #35 with the new year starting out with a bang. As in the bang of bodies falling from the sky. Once again, we find ourselves asking why anyone would ever live in Metropolis. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: A big thank you to Planet Comicon Kansas City for another spectacular show. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Hero Initiative table, came to our panel, or stopped us in the aisle for pictures. We had a great time and cannot wait to give you our recap -- next week. It's going to be a quick show this week so we can catch up on some rest and unpacking. We look at 52 #34 and, with apologies to REM, it's the end of the year as we know it, but the Question does not feel fine. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: As this podcast goes live, we are just hours away from the start of Planet Comicon - a.k.a. the reuniting of Cullen, Jerry, and John in one building! We will be at the Hero Initiative table (#339) all weekend long. Except for 6:00 on Saturday, when we will be hosting the WCPE panel. Be there! Not to bury the real lead here, but guess what we will be raffling off to benefit the Hero Initiative? Just a copy of JLA Avengers!! Seriously!! Again, table #339, we will see you there. We look at 52 #33, with Alfred Pennyworth directing a children's choir singing "Christmastime is Here." And what do you get a Batwoman for Hanukkah? On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: How exciting is this? We got the chance to speak with David Dastmalchian about the return of Count Crowley, this time as the Amateur Midnight Monster Hunter. We spoke to David back in 2019 when the first series was released. And much to our surprise, he is still taking our phone calls. In addition to the Count Crowley talk, we discuss Polka-Dot Man action figures, upcoming film projects, and what it's like to fly with Timothée Chalamet. Jerry got the chance to read a new book, Sort of Super, from friend-of-the-show Eric Gapstur. Listeners, you owe it to yourself to check this book out, especially for the parents in our audience. We look at 52 #32, where the Teen Titans are holding open auditions to increase their membership. So you have to ask yourself, what's the worst that could happen? Hmm, Osiris, we're looking at you. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Prompted by a New York Times article about the musician Questlove and his collections, we discuss our own collections - the love we have for them, the work we put into them, and how much we actually spent vs what we have told our families. Did you see the trailer for Ms. Marvel coming in June to Disney+? Totally adorbs! We break down what we saw or didn't see in the trailer, and some of the hidden Easter eggs to be found. We look at 52 #30, with the return of Bruce Wayne. And we finally get the meeting we have been dying to see between Batwoman and Nightwing. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Well, what seemed like a light topic week turned into a pretty long discussion this week. So wherever you are when you listen to this show, make yourself comfortable. Lots of comic talk this episode. We look at the May solicits from Marvel and DC. If we mention any books that sound interesting, make sure to let you LCS know this week to order you a copy. Jerry got some comics this week, with a box of books from DCBS plus a trip down to Clint's Comics. He does a run-through of the pile and notes an interesting change in direction from Marvel Comics. Writer Tony Isabella posted on Facebook this week what he is asking from cons that invite him to a show. We run down the list and offer our thoughts. All in all, we think everything is very reasonable. Well, except for the rider about no blue M&Ms in the green room. Did you watch the preview for Obi-Wan Kenobi premiering in two months? If we weren't already subscribing to Disney+, we would be signing up now for sure to watch this series. We look at 52 #29, where it's Thanksgiving in the DC Universe. The JSA breaks up a parade. Sivana uses a chainsaw to slice the turkey. And John Irons appears to dealing with flaky skin in the dry pre-winter air. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: As of earlier today, the Marvel Knights shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, et al) that were once found on Netflix now have a new home on Disney+. What does that mean for your subscription, especially with the introduction of parental controls? (And let's be honest, our kids will probably have to tell us how to get those set up anyway.) DC Entertainment announced a reshuffle of their movie line-up for 2022, which makes very little sense to us. We detail the changes and why they might be moving the movies around on the release schedule. Cullen went from coast to coast in the last week for work and managed to find some comic book stores along the way. Find out where he went and what he bought. Did you watch the preview for Obi-Wan Kenobi premiering in two months? If we weren't already subscribing to Disney+, we would be signing up now for sure to watch this series. We look at 52 #28, where the Questions return to Gotham City to warn Batwoman of her impending demise, and the Lost Heroes in Space meet up with Green Lantern? We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. Jerry has a pick, but it is not a comic book. What could it be? On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Did you go see The Batman last weekend? John and Jerry made it out to see the new take on the Dark Knight Detective. We offer our non-spoiler thoughts on the move with things we like (99%) or that we didn't like (what's up with the Penguin's car not having airbags?). We look at 52 #27, which is really, really dark. We weren't trying to coordinate this with The Batman, but man, this was a dark issue. Don't let the kiddies begin their comic journey with this issue! Jerry shares a tale of trying to buy one comic off of eBay, and how the two oldest books in his house arrived in the last three weeks. We have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We sit down with writer Jon Dexter to discuss the launch of his Alpha Dogs #2 Kickstarter. Continuing the story that was started in a previous Kickstarter, Alpha Dogs focuses around Buck, a dog with the heightened strength and intelligence, as well as the ability to heal from almost any wound. Unfortunately for Buck, there are a lot of humans that want to know why Buck has these abilities, and will stop at nothing to find out. The Kickstarter runs the entire month of March, but go ahead and make your pledge today to get in on the canine capers! We look at 52 #26, which puts us at the halfway point of the project. The Black Adam Family is invited to dinner with the Sivannas. Yes, those Sivannas. And yes, it ends just like you think it will. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: This is it, people. We have reached episode #400. No one thought we would be ever at this point, but here we are! What started as a crazy suggestion back in the summer of 2014 just kept going and going. So sit back and enjoy the extra-long super-size edition of the longest-running lowest-rated show in our markets. We look at 52 #25, with the Marvel and Black Marvel families on patrol on October 31. Yes, all the kids want to dress like Black Adam this Halloween. Plus we get a retelling of the Nightwing origin from Waid and Pérez. You would have had to have been in a coma for the last week to not have heard the news about the re-release of JLA/Avengers as a benefit to the Hero Initiative in support of George Pérez. We have finished season one of Peacemaker, and what a season it was. We were all doing a collective head-scratch when this was first announced, but Gunn and Company delivered. Bring on season 2, and give us a few more cameos like the ones we saw at the end of this episode. What was your highlight of the Super Bowl? Ours was definitely the new Doctor Strange trailer for the May release. We try a new game/feature of Good Cop/Bad Cop. It may take some fine tuning to get the kinks worked out, but let us know if you like that or not. John put together an Over/Under game with his students, testing their knowledge of different characters in Marvel and DC.
