Plus we had Alligator Loki and the Thanos Copter and so much more. We may have to create some variants of ourselves to have enough time to unpack everything we witnessed in the final episodes of the season. We also check in on what we have been reading lately, which turns out to be a lot of indy books and Kickstarter projects. We also have our Pick 3, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Two of our picks were available yesterday, but the third hits shelves today. As always, be sure to support your local comic shop and pick up your holds each week. WCPEver Episode 368 - Black Widow Movie Review
The balcony is open once again. The guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! took in the new Black Widow movie over the weekend, bringing the MCU back to the big screen for the first time since 2019. Set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, we find out what Natasha has been up to behind the scenes. Turns out to be a family reunion of sorts, as we meet her parents and sister. And along the way, she encounters the Taskmaster. Seriously, why are we even putting anything here. We've seen the movie, we know you have seen the movie. Let's just discuss it and have a good time.) But do listen close because we have another trivia question related to Natasha! Jerry is back from a family vacation to Texas, which included some stops at a few comic books stores, PLUS he visited the fabled Ollie's discount chain for some great deals on comic collections. On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we continue our summer reading program with the original Astro City mini-series from 1995. This started a new universe that has spawned countless homages over its 100+ issue run. Written by Kurt Busiek, interior art by Brent Anderson, and cover art by Alex Ross, Astro City introduces us to multiple characters, situations, and one-of-a-kind moments that can only occur in a big city, albeit one filled with super-heroes. We are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Bill Schmidt who suggested the Astro City series to us. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 366 - This Isn't About You!
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we need to catch up on our Loki discussion, so Cullen and Jerry are here to break down episodes 2 and 3. We have Loki chasing Loki across time and space, with stops in Alabama and deep space. Plus, Loki sings! There is a Kickstarter ongoing for HELP to benefit the Hero Initiative, so you know we are going to talk about it and encourage you to sign up for it! Warren Ellis was in the news the past week, but not for a good reason. Cullen gives us the breakdown of what's going on there. As we do each and every week, we also have our Pick 3 choices for the week as well as a trivia question with mischievous prize. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 365 - 2021 Summer Reading | Wolverine (1982)
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we begin our summer reading program with the Wolverine mini-series from 1982. This is one of Marvel's earliest mini-series, and has stayed in print in some form or fashion over the last four decades. Written by Chris Claremont with art by Frank Miller, Wolverine has Logan traveling to Japan to try to win back Mariko but those plans quickly go off of the high-speed train rails. This series showcases both creators' strengths, making for a memorable story that stands the test of time. We are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Rick Zinn who suggested the Wolverine series to us. Cullen got to attend the Washington State Summer Con last weekend, and he put together a fine collection of autographs and sketches that he is auctioning off on eBay. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the Hero Initiative, so please consider placing a bid on either piece he assembled. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 364 - I Am Burdened With Glorious Purpose
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are talking about the God of Mischief as the first episode of Loki dropped on Disney + last week. Heck, as you are reading this write-up, other people are already watching episode two. Go watch it, we'll wait here until you're done. Starring Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson as Agent Mobius, Loki takes place immediately after we last saw Loki in Avengers Endgame. Unfortunately for Loki, he is now the target of the Time Variance Authority. Why are they going after Loki? Well, the TVA needs some help stopping another Loki. Just sit back and enjoy the madness! We also take a look at the Eisner Nominations which were announced last week. We take a look at the more popular categories and make our picks. Here's a sneak preview - if the category mentions The Department of Truth, expect Jerry to pick that one. We feature the always-popular feature, What's In The Box? Jerry got his new box of monthly books, and Cullen received a birthday present. Speaking of books, we also have our Pick 3 choices for the week as well as a trivia question with multiple prizes. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. WCPEver Episode 363 - Pride Month
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are taking a look at representation in comics with the celebration of Pride Month. Representation is important, and there were times when comics got it right, and more times when comics got it wrong. Whether is Northstar, Harley & Ivy, or any other characters past or present, we have a free-form conversation talking about the characters that so many people identify with. And while we did not address this on the show, let's put this back out as a reminder as we slowly return to conventions across the country. Whether we are set us as the podcast or volunteering for the Hero Initiative, our booths are always a safe space for anyone. If you see us on the show floor and need assistance, just grab us and we will do what we can. We are here for you. Speaking of conventions looks like Cullen will be the first one returning to a full con next weekend with the Washington State Summer Con. They have a great list of modern and veteran comic creators, and they will all get the full Stapleton experience at the show in mid-June. (On the off-chance that Al Milgrom happens to be reading this post, let us go ahead and apologize now for anything Cullen may say or do during his fanboy meeting with you in ten days.) Of course, we do have to talk about comics, especially with our Pick 3 choices sponsored by Clint's Comics. We have three great books chosen for this week, including John's pick which ties back in with this week's theme. We have a return of our trivia question, but we are not giving away just one prize. Try FOUR! Seriously, answer early and get the first pick of the loot. Jerry got to watch some of the new Sweet Tooth series on Netflix - check it out NOW if you haven't already. Especially if Disney + crashes with the launch of Loki today. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. WCPEver Episode 362 - Now Witness the Power of This Fully Armed and Operational Podcast
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are back to peek nerdiness, as we have an all-star line-up of podcast champions in our studio tonight. Batting first and hosting the podcast is Cullen Stapleton, a.k.a. The Blonde Ambition! When he's not reading comics or driving the Portland backroads, Cullen is saving the world one shared social media post at a time. Next up is the one-and-only Electric Boogaloo himself, Jerry McMullen. Hunkered down in the basement of the Hall of Justice, Jerry sustains himself by consuming Galactus-style all of the Hostess Fruit Pie advertisements from the 1970s comics. And batting clean-up for WCPEver, returning from a nine-month quarantined stay in the halls of Blue Valley North, we have the Jukebox Hero himself... John Holloway, master of the Zoom! Yes, the rumors are true that the sultry voice that once inspired Sade to record Smooth Operator is back where he belongs -- in his basement talking comics with the boys. Seriously, do we need to keep up with more show notes here? You have all three of the guys talking nerdy to you, our loyal listeners. Enjoy the show, people. Enjoy the show! WCPEver Episode 361 - Fantastic Four Life Story with Mark Russell
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we have writer Mark Russell on to talk about Fantastic Four Life Story #1, which hit the shelves last week. Following in the footsteps of Spider-Man Life Story from 2019, Fantastic Four Life Story gives us a new look at the history of Marvel's First Family but told by the decades with the characters aging in real-time. Joined by artist Sean Izaakse (Fantastic Four), issue one takes a look at the origins of the FF in the 1960s. Mark discusses the origins of this project, as well as the challenges of representing 60 years of comics in just six issues. We also run down Mark's other ongoing books, including a new horror book coming out from Vault Comics later this year. We are in the final days of taking recommendations for our summer reading project. For 2021, we want to read three mini-series of 4-6 issues in length. We want to read one from Marvel, one from DC, and one from any other publisher. Our request is that the issues or collection is readily available so we can read it and have others join in on the fun. Please get your suggestions to us by May 28. We also review our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. As always, stop by your local comic shop and pick up your books! The trivia for this week is of a Marvelous nature. If you think you are smart enough to get it right, send us your answer and win a prize! We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 360 - Douglas Wolk and All of the Marvels
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we have writer Douglas Wolk on to talk about comics. In particular, we should focus on Marvel Comics. Well, truth be told, we should discuss all of the Marvel Comics. Or maybe, just maybe, we talk to Doug about his upcoming book called All of the Marvels, due to hit bookstores in October this year. What started out as a father-son reading project turned into a five-year odyssey to read 27,000 Marvel comic books. From A-Force to Zombies Assemble, and all titles in between, Doug has read, scanned, re-read, memorized panels, and absorbed more information than even the Watcher knows about. Doug shares all of the details of how he went about this project. Now even though the book does not come out until October, we want to make you aware of a special opportunity to pick up a signed copy of All of the Marvels. Our friend Katie over at Books With Pictures in Portland has a sign-up list to pre-order a copy and have it autographed or even personalized by Doug. Maybe we just put this out to our listeners, but if anyone wanted to get us a holiday gift this year, click the link above! We are still taking recommendations for our summer reading project. Jerry makes some bold predictions to accurately predict everyone's selections this week. As always, stop by your local comic shop and pick up your books! Now you may have heard that every time Cullen goes to a local comic shop, he plans on only buying three books. Then the vapors take him over and he comes out with a big stack of books. We say that because Cullen went shopping again. And he did some reading, too. Or was that two? Of course, Jerry's been staying steady working on the #My500ComicGoal for 2021. And he is up over 600 books at the 1/3 mark of the year. WCPEver Episode 356 - Beyond Mortal Kickstarter with Cullen Bunn
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we have comic horror writer Cullen Bunn in the studio with us to talk about his new Kickstarter, Beyond Mortal #1. Working with artist Danny Luckert, Beyond Mortal is the first of a three-issue series where the world's mightiest heroes (think Justice League) goes up against Elder Gods (think Cthulhu). The first issue alone is 64 pages, and we can expect the same, if not more, with the remaining issues. The good news is that the Kickstarter has already funded, within the first 24 hours. But we still want to talk to Cullen about the project! Besides, there are all kinds of stretch goals being added to make this a spectacular package. We also check in on some upcoming books to be hitting stores in the next few weeks. Be on the look out for Shadowman #1 in just seven days! We also have our pick 3 selection, sponsored by Clint's Comics; a look at the local weather, and a trivia question related to Episode 5 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. WCPEver Episode 352 - Kickstarters Galore!
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we have not one but two Kickstarters to share with you. First up is a new Kickstarter from friend-of-the-show Justin Zimmerman (The 27 Run: Crush), who has an ongoing project for his new documentary film Soldier. The movie is about a modern-day super-hero: Daniel is a firefighter, a former sniper, an MMA champion, a father of five, and most importantly a PTSD survivor. His story is one that needs to be heard, and supporting this Kickstarter will help that be done. Even though the project is funded, please help the Kickstarter reach the stretch goals so that the film can include additional scenes. Next is a Kickstarter from new friend-of-the-show Matt Blairstone, who is prepping his new horror anthology Green Inferno. Inspired by the wildfires that swept the west coast last year, Green Inferno is a collection of horror stories with ecological roots. Matt has brought in an incredible roster of creators, such as Ian McGinty, Jordon Kroeger, Alex Woodroe, Kristofor Harris, Lorna Keach, Diane Barker, Harrison Webb, Lena Ng, and more. This project has one week left to reach its goal, so let's all step up and help this reach. Now with any other podcast, that would be enough for a full show. Not us. We have a lot of discussions still to do, including Justice League, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, some retail comic book therapy, and our weekly Pick 3 selections, sponsored by Clint's Comics. WCPEver Episode 351 - Nerd Trifecta
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are entering the nerd trifecta over the next three days. Seriously, forget the basketball March Madness because the geek March Madness is awesome! For Wednesday, we have New Comic Book Day, which should be a standing holiday every week. A lot of great books coming out this week. In fact, we have our Pick 3 choices, sponsored by Clint's Comics, where we fall into our predictable habits of Cullen choosing an Image book, John choosing a DC book, and Jerry choosing a Marvel book. For Thursday, we get Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBOMax. Clocking in at just over four hours, this remastered film will leave many people talking about it throughout the weekend. Our recommendation is to give it a watch and go in with an open mind. Who knows, you might end up loving it! For Friday, we get the start of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series on Disney+. After the success of WandaVision, we are sure a lot of people will be checking this out. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. WCPEver Episode 349 - Previously On WCPEver...
We are just one episode away from the season finale of WandaVision, as well as just one podcast away from our spectacular 350th live podcast recording, which will occur this Friday night, March 5. Check out our Facebook page for more details! But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's recap this week's episode. Previously on WCPEver: Jerry and Cullen discuss episode 8 of WandaVision, as we find out the origins of Wanda and Pietro. Plus the surprise appearance at the end of the episode of Vision? We also speculate on who might be the rumored big surprise appearance in the final episode. Listen closely because we have ANOTHER trivia question, dealing with the origins of the Scarlet Witch. Jerry watched the first episode of Superman and Lois on the CW. Did this live up to his super-expectations? There was an announcement this week of a live-action Blue Beetle movie. We have our Pick 3 selections for this week. Two books were released yesterday, and one book being released today has lost all of its vowels. Intrigued? We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. WCPEver Episode 348 - Superman '78 and Batman '89
Well, the comic book deities have blessed us once again with new announcements this past week, as DC is giving us Superman '78 and Batman '89 comics this summer. It's like someone has been reading the dream comic book project wish list of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! Being released as digital-first offerings, both titles will quickly be collected as floppy issues followed by collected editions. Jerry and Cullen are both excited to see all-new takes on the classic characters brought to life by Christopher Reeve and Michael Keaton. We also had a new episode of WandaVision to discuss. We finally get the inside scoop on Agnes, which almost everyone had from the start. But who saw the connection with Quicksilver? And what if someone is controlling Agnes? So many questions, and so few episodes remaining to get the answers. Jerry went down to Clint's Comics over the weekend and picked up some new books. And speaking of new books, be sure to review our Pick 3 selections for New Comic Book Day today. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 347 - Milestone Return
It's another outstanding week in the studios of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! As if talking about WandaVision, which is the gift that keeps on giving to podcasts everywhere, wasn't enough to talk about, we also have a new trailer for the Justice League moving coming to HBO MAX in March. We also have the return of the Milestone Universe at DC Comics. These were some of the best comics of the 1990s, and their return is long overdue. We hope that you are a fan of these titles, as this week's trivia question surrounds the Milestone titles. If you know the answer, reach out to us on our feeds to win the prize pack. If you have won in the last 30 days, we want to spread the comic book wealth around. We still want to hear from you, but we want to let someone else win. Jerry got in a new box of comics from DCBS, so we run down his reading pile for the next week or so. As always, we have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. The three discuss the upcoming new biography of Stan Lee, which has generated a lot of buzz in our nerd community. Will you be reading the book? WCPEver Episode 344 - WandaVision Now In Color
Before anyone asks, we want to assure you that this is an entirely new episode. Brand spanking new! We recorded it Sunday morning (to free up our time later that night to watch the Chiefs game!) and had a great time putting it together. It was only after the episode was done did we realize that our talking points are almost exactly the same as last week's show. Talk about the new episode of WandaVision? Check! Share our recent reads? Check! Discuss the DC Universe Infinite app? Check! Provide our Pick 3 choices of new books, sponsored by Clint's Comics? Check! Review of new Batwoman? Check! So, if you liked last week's show, you are going to love this one! If you didn't like last week's show, well, we will remind you this is a free show and we are glad you are still checking in with us. WCPEver Episode 343 - WandaVision on Disney+
So... watched anything good lately? Maybe a comedy? Or a satire? Ooooh, wouldn't it be fun to watch a show with a lot of mysteries behind it, like Lost? Well, look no further, as all of those questions can be resolved with the release of WandaVision on Disney+. The first and second episodes were released last Friday, and all of the guys had the chance to sit down and take in the shows. This is a quirky show, focusing on two of our favorite Avengers from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To help out our loyal listeners, we have gone ahead and answered some of the most popular questions we have received on our Google machines in the last week. So, where does this fit in the cinema timeline? We don't know yet. What is this S.W.O.R.D. that is subtlety referenced in each episode? We don't know yet. Where are Wanda and the Vision going to set up a baby registry? We don't know yet. So should I watch this? ABSOLUTELY! We also have a one-two punch of comic goodness. Earlier this week, we saw the return of the Arrowverse shows with the launch of the new Batwoman series on CW. Tune back in next week to get our impressions on the new caped crusader. Next, as this show goes up, the DC Universe Infinite comic reading platform will be launching. All movies and TV shows have been removed, giving us a dedicated DC Comics reading platform. Again, tune back in next week for our impressions. As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for January 20, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Be sure to support your local comic shops regularly and safely. Wear a mask, wear gloves, and pick up your books each week! We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 342 - The 27 Run: Crush with Justin Zimmerman
So nine weeks ago, we had writer Justin Zimmerman on the podcast to talk about his upcoming book, The 27 Run: Crush. And today that book hits retailer shelves across the country. So we brought Justin back into the studio to discuss the new book and all the work that goes into publishing a book once the book is done. Now, if you listen closely -- and we know you do! -- there is a special giveaway promotion hidden within the podcast. Because who doesn't like a free comic? Listen close and enter to win! The original book, The 27 Run, came out in 2018 and is still available via Amazon, Comixology, or the publisher A Wave Blue World's website. The book can be summed up as Mechs vs Monsters with a black-comedy twist. If you are a fan of Godzilla or the Pacific Rim movies, this is the title for you! In addition, we have our Pick 3 selections for January 13, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Obviously, we want you to pick up The 27 Run: Crush today, but here are three more books to keep an eye out for as you do your shopping this week. Finally, we say goodbye to Kansas City comic creator and our friend, Steve Lightle. From a breakout debut in Legion of Super-Heroes to The Doom Patrol to Classic X-Men, Steve was a stellar artist in the field. More importantly, he was a stellar human being, husband, father, and grandfather. Our world is a little dimmer with his sudden passing last Friday. At the time of our recording, there was a GoFundMe set up to help provide for the Lightle family. Once again, the comic community stepped up and provided generously in just a short period of time. At the family's request, that GoFundMe has been stopped, as the needs have been met. We would suggest if you would still like to make a donation in memory of Steve Lightle, please go to the Hero Initiative website and contribute there. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 341 - Wonder Woman 1984 Movie Review
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are still trying to wrap up 2020 with our movie review of Wonder Woman 1984, which debuted on HBO Max and in theaters on Christmas Day. Helmed again by director Patty Jenkins, and starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, the movie takes place in 1980s Washington DC. In this installment, Wonder Woman has her hands full with the dual threat of Cheetah and Maxwell Lord. And all is right in the WW mythos as we finally get the Invisible Jet. Now, if you have seen any commentary on the internet over the last two weeks, you have noticed by now that this movie has provoked a lot of strong reactions, both positive and negative. And you're going to hear some of those arguments on the show today. The bottom line from the discussion is that we all have the right to our opinions. If you loved WW84, that's awesome, and your opinion is valid. If you didn't like WW84, we understand your disappointment, and your opinion is valid too. We have our Pick 3 choices for new books hitting the stores today for the first NCBD of 2021. There are so many good books out there this week, so make sure to visit your local comic shop, such as Clint's Comics in Kansas City. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 340 - #My500ComicGoal with Mike Nickells
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, 2020 is quickly coming to an end, so we have one last check-in on the #My500ComicGoal challenge! We even invited friend-of-the-show Mike Nickells into the studio to discuss this movement he helped start last January. Who would have thought back then that we would have time this year to reach 500 comics read? And we're sure that some of you are wondering if we reached 500 books? Collectively, we sure did! We also take the opportunity to point out some of the 2020 highlights (not an oxymoron!) of our reading and viewing from the last 366 days, give or take. There really was a lot of great stuff out there in 2020, and we'll run down some of those for you. We thought we might discuss WW84 this week, but we talked about so many comics this week, we need to push the movie discussion back seven days. Tune in next week for our thoughts on Diana in the 1980s. Of course, we have our Pick 3 choices for new books hitting the stores today. As of the posting of this podcast, there are just two shopping days remaining in 2020, so use them wisely! We would love to hear your comments on the show. All chairs are occupied, all mics are turned back on, and all is right in our podcast bubble! We have the final two episodes of The Mandalorian to discuss, which we save until the end of the episode. Just in case you haven't watched it yet. But seriously, how do you listen to this podcast and have not watched the season finale of Mandalorian yet? We catch up on our comic reading, and discuss some of the recent DC solicits for later in 2021. WCPEver Episode 338 - Marvel Spotlight with Don Leibold
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are joined by Don Leibold to discuss the Marvel 616 series on Disney +. This show debuted in November 2019, but in all fairness, we were focusing on season 1 of The Mandalorian then. While we are still focusing on Mandalorian, we have all had a little more free time over the last few months to watch some additional programming. Marvel 616 takes a look at the impact of the comics and characters in the real world. Episodes focus on how a monthly comic is made, international artists, cosplay, school plays with Marvel characters, toys and so much more. These episodes usually clock in around one hour and can be watched in any order. Of course, we have to cover the many announcements Disney made last week at their investors' meeting, with all of the new projects due to role out in theaters or on Disney + in the next two years. That could have been an entire podcast just with those announcements. We have our Pick 3 choices for new books hitting the shelves today, or yesterday with Cullen's pick from DC Comics. Whether you are visiting Clint's Comics or your local comic shop, be responsible and wear a mask and gloves. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. WCPEver Episode 336 - Holiday Comics with Jim McClain
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, the holiday season is finally here. After a year like 2020, we find ourselves thinking back to past holiday seasons with positive memories. Obviously, with a show like WCPEver, our holiday memories focus on the holiday comics of our youth, which is a good reason to bring friend-of-the-show Jim McClain back to hang out with us! Now, if you've listened to us for any length of time, you know that sometimes we get off track, as a comment will bring up a side conversation followed by another side conversation. So, that said, we ramble all over the place this episode. We also catch up on some Star Wars viewing, discussing The Mandalorian and the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. So, who's getting a Grogu for Christmas this year? As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 335 - Ranking Movies with Vince Vaughan
EOn this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we have made it to Thanksgiving Eve! For many people, we have a long four-day weekend ahead of us with our immediate family... the same family you have been quarantining with since mid-March. But have no fear, as the guys at WCPEver have you covered. This week, you get: One of our longer episodes, as we know you will have plenty of time to listen to it. A fun conversation with friend-of-the-show Vince Vaughan of the Technically Drinking Podcast. Vince and his crew (Eddie, Eden, and Taylor) have been knocking it out of the park for the last two years as the premier podcast for nerds who like to argue and drink. Vince brought along a list that he is working on to rank/categorize all of the many movies derived from comic book origins. Will we spend a lot of time discussing the Fantastic Four films? Not likely. Is Black Panther one of the all-time greatest comic book movies? We may be swaying Vince's opinion. Should Superman: The Movie and Superman II be viewed as separate films or one long film? One of the many questions that are raised during our discussion. As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. Shops will be closed on Thursday, so be sure to pick up your new stack of books today! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. WCPEver Episode 334 - DC Changes and Comic Talk
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, it's been a while since we have had a chance to just talk about comics. Sure, we put out a podcast last week and talked comics then. But this is a week when we could just get into our reading piles and review some reads. We also spend some time discussing changes and speculation regarding DC Comics. Staffing changes were made last week, and not in a good way as many editors were let go. Add in the rumor mills that hint that DC may be looking at a digital-only approach to the monthly titles. And what does this mean for Wonder Woman 84? Of course, we are going to have things to say about all of this! As always, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. Don't let those pull books pile up, loyal listeners! Buy those comics, read them, then send us a note and tell us about them. We finish the episode with a discussion of the most recent episodes of The Mandalorian. HAVE WE TOLD YOU LATELY HOW MUCH WE LOVE THIS SERIES? AND THEN YOU BRING IN KATIE SACKHOFF??? OMG, THIS SHOW HAS ALL OF THE FEELS! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. WCPE Episode 333 - The 27 Run Crush with Justin Zimmerman
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, Cullen and Jerry sit down with writer Justin Zimmerman to talk about his upcoming book, The 27 Run: Crush. Now the sequel, The 27 Run: Crush, is set to hit comic book store shelves in January. You can place your order now with your LCS, as it is in the current Previews catalog. In addition, the hardcover collection of the entire The 27 Run: Crush series will be available in March 2021. With a background in film, Justin brings a distinct approach to his storytelling, helping to transform a cinematic concept into a printed collection. Joining Justin on the Run is artist Russ Brown and colorist Fran Gamboa, whose combined output reminds one of George Perez and looks outstanding on the printed page and the digital screen. In addition, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. Don't let those pull books pile up, loyal listeners! Buy those comics, read them, then send us a note and tell us about them. WCPEver Episode 332 - Wherever I Go, He Goes
With all of the craziness in our world right now, a little bit of calmness returned to our lives last Friday with the release of episode 1 of The Mandalorian Season 2 on Disney +. This is the way. With a return to Tatooine, and appearances by Tusken Raiders, Jawas, and the Boba Fett armor, all is well with Cullen and Jerry as they gush over the first episode. In addition, we each got the chance to read the concluding issue of Batman: Three Jokers from DC Comics. We share our wrap-up thoughts and how this impacts the world of the Dark Knight going forward. It's been a while since we checked in on our #My500ComicGoal challenge. Jerry reached the 1500-book mark on Halloween, which means it's time for another Darwyn Cooke Parker book. Of course, we have our Pick 3 selections for this week, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Please remember to support your local comic shops, especially as we head into the holiday season. WCPEver Episode 331 - Nerd Mental Health with Angie Pedersen
OK, let's get real this week. There is a lot going on in the world right now. I mean, we always have to deal with whatever life gives us, right? But right now life seems to be giving all of us more than we can handle. Whether it's the pandemic, staying at home, concerns about finances or health, the contentious election cycle, or any other number of high-stress issues in our lives, it's pushing a lot of people right now to their breaking point. We see it from you. Heck, we see it in ourselves. And sometimes, you have to be willing and able to say, "Help!". On this week's show, we brought in friend-of-the-show Angie Pedersen, who runs the KC Geeks blog. In fact, her most recent post on the blog is Coping with Depression and Anxiety. Angie has also helped run mental health panels at our local cons - check out her recap of her panel at the 2018 Planet Comicon. Angie sat down with Cullen and Jerry for a free-form conversation about identifying issues, tricks to help cope with life, and ways to seek out assistance. We share based on our own collective experiences and hope that something we said in this episode can be of help to you. WCPEver Episode 330 - La MANO del DESTINO Kickstarter with J. Gonzo
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are joined in the studio by comic creator J. Gonzo, who has a new Kickstarter for La MANO del Destino, a Lucha Libre tale set in Mexico in the 1960s. Think wrestling with a Mad Men vibe, and you are on board for this project. What makes this project so unique is that the project is a flipbook. On one side, you can read the six-issue series in English. Flip the book over and you can read the six-issue series in Spanish. In between the two collections are pages of bonus material and pin-ups, giving you a 400-page book for your support. Now I know you're thinking, what about the rewards? Seriously, you want more than just the book? Well, there's art prints, doodles, the original comics... oh, and a LUCHA MASK! Name one other comic Kickstarter offering you a kick-butt Lucha mask to wear while reading this book. We'll wait here while you compile your list. You owe it to yourself to check out the campaign video on the Kickstarter page. We swear on the spirit of sweet baby Jack Kirby that this is the best promotional video ever put together for a Kickstarter campaign. Gonzo was answering our questions before we could even think of them. The video alone should get you to back the project, and the finished book is just bonus comic goodness. Now, the campaign is in the final two weeks, so we really need you to review this project today and show your support! Books will be in your hands for the holidays, so keep it for yourself or give it away as a gift. (Or buy two books, one for yourself and one to give away!) Sadly John couldn't join us this week, but he still gave us his choice for our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by Clint's Comics. As always, if you are supporting your local comic book stores, AND YOU SHOULD, remember to wear masks and gloves. We would love to hear your comments on the show. WCPEver Episode 329 - Batman: Three Jokers #2
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, we are joined in the studio by friend-of-the-show Brent Kincade. After all, if we are going to be discussing Batman: Three Jokers, we need a third Joker for the conversation, right? With the release of the second issue, more questions are raised with few answers provided. What are Batman's true feelings about Red Hood? What's going on between Batgirl and Red Hood? And why was Joe Chill in Crime Alley that night? This story has us all shades of confused, but we want more. Give us the third issue now, DC! Cullen shares the details of a recent Kickstarter project that he supported, and Jerry got in a reward from a Kickstarter last spring. We also run down what we have been reading lately, with Jerry pushing to reach 2,000 books read by the end of the year. Even though John couldn't join us this week, he still gave us his choice for our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by Clint's Comics. In addition to Cullen's and Jerry's selections, Brent chimes in with a DC Halloween book that has us intrigued. WCPEver Episode 323 - Remembering Chadwick Boseman
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Like many others in our fandom, we are saddened over the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, known to many as the face of the Black Panther of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Boseman was 43. Since coming to the big screen in Captain America: Civil War, Boseman has inspired fans, young and old, with his portrayal of T'Challa which seemed to leap straight from the pages of a comic book. We look back at Boseman's impact in his too-short career and wonder what can be done going forward with the Marvel films. WCPEver Episode 322 - Fringe Kickstarter with Tim Benson
On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: Cullen, John, and Jerry sit down to talk comics with friend-of-the-show Tim Benson from OmahaBound, who has a new Kickstarter going on for the complete Fringe collection from Paul Tobin and Phil Hester. Published by Caliber Comics in the 1990s, Fringe was an early indy book from Tobin and Hester, before their careers took off. The Kickstarter is collecting all eight issues, plus assorted extras, into a collected volume that will fit in nicely on your bookshelf. Tim gives us the history of the title and how this opportunity came together for OmahaBound. As if that wasn't enough to talk about this week, DC Comics hosted their FanDome online convention last Saturday, announcing new film projects, debuting new trailers, and getting us all excited about the future of the Distinguished Competition. We also have our Pick 3 selections, brought to you by our friends at Clint's Comics. Be sure to support your local comic shop, and wear your gloves and masks when shopping. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email.
