Let's critique it.Lastly, in Arts & Culture: (47:50) UNESCO reports that the Creative sector lost 10M jobs due to the pandemic, which is a crazy number to pin down, but let's give it a go.Thank you for listening! And whilst we can conversate about whether this "sets a precedent", I just want to gas up the collective of people that decided to do what Bristol councillors were, for some reason, hesitant on.In Music: (15:25) The UK Music Industry is still reckoning with The Exit and la di da, the Government isn't providing much help.In Film/TV: (31:42) I personally have always been side-eyeing the concept of "Method" acting but never really looked into it. But luckily for me, my hunch was right. The process is not what you think it is.Lastly, in Education: (44:09) We finally have some evidence of school students being taught a more diverse curriculum. But does history & science suggest that we're even built for it?In Film/TV: (39:02) As we bathe in this era of Superhero blockbusters and notable figures shitting on said Superhero blockbusters, Christopher Nolan's new $100 Million WW2 film "Oppenheimer" could be the last of its kind.Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (53:17) It's obvious that due to the internet, the ease of access to literally anything and everything, it's getting increasingly easier to get lost in it all. And whilst I can confidently say I love the film, I can't ever recommend the film without flagging up one major error in the casting department. In the 2nd Film/TV segment: (39:19) I also saw "The Eternals" in the past week. Mixed reviews aside, it's worth having a conversation on films that use real-life tragedies as pathos.Lastly, in Life: (52:31) If you haven't been on Google Maps recently, you may not be aware of a time machine feature they have which, depending on where you are, can really show the changes in life in the 21st Century.Thank you for listening! Motorists. In the first of two Film/TV segments: (20:39) Succession is back for its third season. But whilst everyone is loving it, I can't get past its jarring attempt to be surreal in a hyperreal world. In Sports: (35:22) Elaine Thompson-Herah probably had the best year of any sportsperson, becoming the 2nd fastest woman ever over 100m and cleaning up gold medals in the process. But like every good sports story, it wasn't a rosy path.Lastly, in the 2nd Film/TV segment: (47:49) Insecure has begun its fifth and final season. And he triples down on everything...Lastly, (53:57) I went to the BFI London Film Festival to see "The Harder They Fall", a Netflix Original that will premiere on Netflix on November 1st. But with 'foreign' films getting more shine in recent years, is there any point? In the first of two Life segments: (38:26) The United Kingdom is fracturing more and more as days go by, but whilst I would love some anarchy and blame it all on the Conservatives, it's worth noting the very likely negatives of the UK splitting up.Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (54:23) I sometimes to myself, I don't know if I do it more than most or less than most, but I do it. So is it weird? Is it a sign of something worse?Thank you for listening! This time, they're getting on the Live Audio & Podcast space. And the figures on how many of them are black are alarming. In Film/TV: (30:16) Hank Azaria, most famous for his work on The Simpsons, has recently talked about the steps he's taken since ditching the role of Apu for the reasons of... You know. He's white. And it seems the steps he has taken so far have been not too bad.In the 2nd Life segment: (41:56) It has been 40 years since the Brixton "Riots" and from the oral retrospective of a few people that were there, we can draw parallels to what is going on now for young black Brits.Lastly, in Music: (56:19) The one-of-one DMX has passed. But with a week of marinating, I wanted to get one more shot at the topic. In the first of two Film/TV segments: (28:34) Netflix caters to more European languages than the EU itself. And because of its reach, Netflix is able to take any show in any country and make it a continent-wide hit.In the 2nd Film/TV segment: (44:31) It seems that some American elites want to host podcasts and make TV shows instead of doing their jobs and if that isn't 21st Century American Politics in a nutshell, I don't know what is.(The Weeds episode I referenced)Lastly, in Sports: (55:43) The World Cup in Qatar is just over a year away. And it's not only until now that players are speaking up on the deaths suffered just to get the stadiums built. The results could pave the way for every other show in the future. In the first of two Life segments: (19:46) Social Media blew up once people found out that the Home Office spent a dumb amount of money last year and offers up so many questions like "how much stuff do you need to buy to rack up 5k in Primark?!"In the 2nd Music segment: (34:58) UK Festival lineups have been coming thick & fast in the past few weeks, but the gender disparity for a lot of them is woefully bad. Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (51:31) On the day I record, the Government dropped a 200+ page report about Race in the UK and the deeper it goes, the more questionable the results get.Thank you for listening! A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hits Japan.Hall of Fame Basketball player Elgin Baylor dies aged 86. In Life: (7:10) The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is not just an unnecessarily long name, but it's something that could fundamentally change day-to-day society, for better and worse. In the first of two Film/TV segments: (23:22) "Sound of Metal" is a film that was laser-focused on delivering an experience that utilised sound more than most films. And the methods they used fascinate someone like me that's always listening to something. In the 2nd FIlm/TV segment: (34:23) You would think that a pandemic that forces you to stay inside would benefit Screenwriters. But for the ones in big-time writing rooms, doing things virtually mostly hindered their habits.Lastly, in Music: (50:48) Lil Baby's Grammy performance is the latest in a string of performative performances that are way too grandiose and 'on the nose' for a topic such as police brutality. There needs to be a conversation on why artists are going down this road.Thank you for listening! What are they? Who the hell are these people forking millions for a few lines of code? Are they dumb? Will they last?In Sports: (25:07) The NCAA Basketball Tournament is on the horizon and we know why it's happening. Money. But looking past that, how gross does this US Collegiate Sports system get when we account for racial dynamics? In Film/TV: (38:13) Judas & The Black Messiah got a lot of love with the Oscar Nominations, but how does a film, where you could make an argument for two lead actors, get two Supporting Actor nominations instead?Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (47:32) The Sarah Everard story is a commentary on many things, but one that should be universally talked about is the police's role in not just this case, but for the many cases of women suffering from harassment, kidnapping & maybe murder.Thank you for listening! Must be nice, billionaires lifting each other up.Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (53:04) The George Floyd Act was passed in the US recently, but looking at it on the face shows that it's not only papering over cracks, but the bill itself wouldn't have even saved the person it's named after.Thank you for listening! Why do men always let down Billie Holiday?Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (1:03:05) I found a story on some old fashioned racism that was disguised as science, which made me think about the remnants shown today and hopefully sees past all of this in the future.Thank you for listening! (Article is via PDF on pages 1, 3 & 4)Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (1:02:27) A book is coming out, documenting what the Chibok girls that were abducted by Boko Haram went through.
