Turns out, there are many potential health risks that are beefed up simply because the Earth is heating up. This glorious run of rage culminated in an amazing 16-minute conversation on BBC Radio 1Extra. Some points I agree, some I'm on the fence on. One thing I disagree with is the term "Culture Vulture". He's done some good, but A LOT of bad and it begs a question on leadership and how people can skew the definition. In Sports: (23:57) The US has three generations of black female Tennis players at the moment and they're all shining. But where are the black men in Tennis? The answer lies in two things. Grassroots investment & the wealth of options that male athletes have in America compared to women. In the 2nd Life segment: (36:31) There are always conspiracies about how virus outbreaks happen. Even why we haven't got cures for some. But here's a story about a South African mercenary group actively tried to spread HIV/AIDS in black communities. MP's on both sides of the Commons has responded now that Parliament is back in session, the news is so fresh, news about a snap General Election came across my wire. In the 1st of two Film/TV segments: (24:00) Disney have announced that they're going to release their Disney+ exclusive shows on a weekly basis. If you remember on Ep.38 of WG, I noted that Disney are mapping out their future (and therefore, the future of Film & TV) and this is another ripple in the looming Disney earthquake. In Sports: (38:56) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (My GOAT) hits up The Guardian to talk about political protesting in the Olympics and asks whether athletes should protest during Tokyo 2020 even though the IOC strictly prohibits it. It's an interesting question and some answers can be found looking back and seeing how it can actually ruin careers, making the decision that more brave. Lastly, in the 2nd Film/TV segment: (54:53) I read an amazing article all about "Friends" and why it is so terrible... I fully co-sign everything said.Thank you for listening! Ep.40 - The Amazon Rainforest & Notting Hill Carnival
EIn a week where: Glasgow University is going to pay £20 Million in slave trade reparations. Hasbro now owns Death Row Records. In an eventful G7 summit, Trump "Hereby orders US companies" to no longer do business with China.Ben Stokes unleashes a Braveheart-like performance in The Ashes. The NY Times unveils a massive anthology called "The 1619 Project" in trying to retell the story of Slavery in the US, 400 Years after its beginning.Parliament has been suspended. In Life: (10:11) The Amazon Rainforest is under attack by the government that is obligated to protect. But along with hateful rhetoric, Jair Bolsonaro & his government plan to plant a highway & a hydroelectric plant where the Rainforest should be. In Sports: (20:56) Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova for the 19th straight time in the 1st round of this year's US Open, but all I heard before the match was the word "Rivalry". In what universe is this a rivalry in any definition of the word?In Film/TV: (28:45) Comfort TV is all the rage now. Watching the show you know like the back of your hand over and over again. Why is this? Do we all do it in some way? And in Music: (41:03) Notting Hill Carnival has been & gone. From my vantage point, it looked like another successful year of good vibes, good music and good food. But I thought I'd broaden the scope and appreciate the largest street festival in Europe for what it truly is. Being a symbol of culture in the face of hate. Thank you for listening! Ep.39 - Jay-Z, Jeffrey Epstien & Spider-Man
EIn a week where: Boris Johnson & EU butt heads again.Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" No.1 streak is over.Home Secretary Priti Patel plans to end Freedom of Movement completely on Oct 31st.Keanu Reeves set to return for The Matrix 4.The Amazon Rainforest is *literally* on fire. In the 1st of two Film/TV segments: (14:26) Spider-Man is out of the MCU after Marvel & Sony couldn't land a deal to have Spider-Man in Marvel/Disney films. This is terrible for Marvel as they clearly wanted their most ubiquitous character to be present in future projects, but it's quite possible that Marvel/Disney dropped this news to pressure Sony. Time will tell if they find a deal or Sony takes it all back and bottles it again. In Life: (27:30) The US is still scratching their head over the death of Jeffrey Epstein, who was in jail & awaiting trial for sexual abuse and underage sex trafficking. The initial reports said suicide but conspiracy theories are all over the place. Everything is being questioned as it pertains to Jeffrey Epstein but in the middle of all of it are survivors that don't get to see the criminal go down.In the 2nd Film/TV segment: (41:47) People have been talking about Quentin Tarantino's new film "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood". But it's not all been positive. One scene, in particular, has gotten people riled up. Specifically, a scene where Bruce Lee is depicted in a not-so-flattering light. His friend (& my GOAT) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hops in and discusses the issue & context.Lastly, in the Sports segment: (53:29) Jay-Z and RocNation have created a partnership with the NFL and it has cut people in half. This shouldn't be a Kaepernick vs Jay thing. It should be "Let's all wait to see if Jay can cash the check that his mouth has written" as it pertains to Social Justice in America and getting the NFL to fix up.Thank you for listening! Ep.38 - Rich Paul, Kurtis Blow & Being 'Not Racist'
EIn a week where: Scotland has planted 22 Million Trees over the past year.Jeffrey Epstein, who was in jail waiting on a trail for sex trafficking, killed himself in jail. The Premier League season is underway for another year. The UK Treasury is minting special 50p coins to commemorate the country leaving. Red Bull pull the trigger & promote Alex Albon to their team, replacing Pierre Gasly.A$AP Rocky is found guilty of assault in Sweden. In Sports: (8:19) It has been just over a week since the NCAA created what has been dubbed the "Rich Paul Rule". The man involuntarily connected to all of this, Rich Paul, has penned a response to it all. The rule itself has been rescinded by the NCAA since he wrote it but their intentions are abundantly clear. In Film/TV: (22:10) Disney have mapped out their near future and it's very telling as to how simple their methods are. Blockbusters & highly touted films that have "Award SZN" potential will get theatrical releases. Everything else, straight to streaming. Is this going to be the case for the future of Film? Hasn't it already happened in a way?In Life: (37:22) Ibram X Kendi talks to The Guardian's Owen Jones and poses the idea that you're either racist or anti-racist. The term "Not Racist" doesn't help and actually serves as a scapegoat for people that don't have to face racism on a daily basis. The "on the fence" attitude has to stop. Finally, in Music: (52:27) Since it was recently the birthday of Hip-Hop, I thought it'd be a great moment to celebrate the first and original "King Of Rap". Mr Kurtis Blow, who also had a birthday recently.Thank you for listening! Ep.37 - Toni Morrison & Streaming Vs Traditional TV
EIn a week where:German authorities say they have seized 4.5 tonnes of cocaine, worth €1bn ($1.11 bn), in the northern port city of HamburgEthiopia planted 350 million trees in 12 hours.Man City beat Liverpool on Penalties to win back-to-back Com. Shields. First time since '02 a team has gone back-to-back.2 mass shootings in the US spark "Gun Control" conversation once again. Trains from Manchester to London are costing more than flights to New York. The NCAA set new criteria for agents, declaring they need a Bachelor's degree to get their foot in the door.In the 1st of two Life segments: (10:41) I pay respects to African American author Toni Morrison who died aged 88. I say off the bat that I've never read her novels, but in reading tributes by several people, it makes me want to read for myself and gain my own perspective on the legacy she has left.In Film/TV: (30:44) Ofcom have released a report showing just how much of a blow Streaming services like Netflix are dealing to Traditional TV. Along with the younger demographics flocking to entertainment alternatives such as YouTube. Places like the BBC & ITV are making moves to combat this, but they may be already too late. In Music: (43:56) Black Country Music stars like Lil Nas X & Blanco Brown are making headlines in the US with their non-traditional style, bringing up concerns of cultural appropriation. But is it really? My answer probably won't shock you...Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (53:00) I always wonder, in the stupid & self-destructive time the UK is currently in right now politically, how are other countries reacting? Well, I have my answer and they're all echoing the same thing. Our government is making the UK a laughing stock on the world stage.Thank you for listening! Ep.36 - eSports, Ras G & Deep Poverty
EIn a week where: A prison ID card once owned by late rapper Tupac Shakur has sold at an auction for $30,000 (£24,041). The sale set a world record for the most expensive piece of Tupac memorabilia ever sold at public auction.Egan Bernal has become the first Colombian to win the Tour de France. Caster Semenya suffers another setback as the Swiss Supreme Court has U-Turned their recent allowance for her to complete. In the Sports segment: (6:45) eSports is officially a phenomenon worth the attention. With weeks to go until the US Open, Flushing Meadows was recently swamped by fans of Fortnite. The game's "World Cup" boasted a $30M prize pool. The largest in eSports history, well over the average. The winner got $3M of it, which is more than the majority of the biggest sports tournaments, including the US Open. As fans numbers for eSports skyrocket, all other established Sports are slowly getting older. For the 1st of two Life segments: (24:52) In the endless sludge pipe of content that is the President of the US, Ms Afua Hirsch delivers a great piece about the US city of Baltimore and the racial bombardment by Trump. She also links it to Boris Johnson and it all kind of sums up how I feel about it all.In Music: (41:26) We say Rest in Beats to LA Producer Ras G, pioneer of the Brainfeeder collective and partly responsible for the re-vitalisation of the LA Jazz/funk/Hip-Hop scene. Which got me thinking about small communities and how they make us feel special.Lastly, in Life: (55:00) A recent report shows that 4M people in the UK are in "Deep Poverty". The numbers have risen dramatically compared to earlier in the decade. But unfortunately, we won't care because EU Leave right? That's way more important...Thank you for listening! Ep.35 - Boris, DiCaprio & Subscription Wars
In a week where: Avengers Endgame has passed Avatar to become the top-grossing film of all-time at the worldwide box office. Facebook is fined $5B by the US Federal Trade Commission after the year-long investigation on the Cambridge Analytica data breach.Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" ties the record for the number of weeks @ No.1 in the US. Mahershala Ali is slated to play Marvel's "Blade" Reboot. Turns out Mahershala went to Kevin Feige after "GreenBook" and said he wants to play Blade. In the 1st of 2 Life segments: (5:00) Boris Johnson is officially the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. While we can mock him and/or fear the near future, (I do both) we also need to realise that the system is broken. Once politicians reach a level of significance, it doesn't matter how terrible they are in their position, reputation alone can get them into the highest office and that's wrong. In Sports: (17:07) A conversation is going around in American circles that recording live events is killing fan participation at said live events. This is a conversation that has been long ongoing in music circles and more recently in Stand-Up circles. Whilst the other two arenas can genuinely be concerned, fans recording a free-kick is not a sign of the apocalypse. There are many more reasons, once I suggest, pricing. In Film/TV: (33:56) When looking at the Hollywood landscape. Nearly every actor of note is connected to major franchises. Every actor, not named Leonardo DiCaprio. Whilst other big names hook onto the big, multi-sequel films. DiCaprio is all about quality over quantity. He also isn't constantly on social media. Is DiCaprio the last bastion of the "Traditional Hollywood" star actor?Lastly, in the 2nd Life segment: (48:00) I have recently come to realise something that'll most likely be beaten into us as the new decade looms. Subscription-based services are going to be the primary method of media consumption. TV, Film, hell, even News organisations are doing it! While I understand why everyone is trying to get their piece of the pie, it's daunting thinking about having to have several subscriptions for something we used to have in one place.Thank you for listening! Ep.34 - Emmys, Colourism & Supporting Others
EIn a week where: More than 30 whistle-blowers give evidence to Equality Watchdog on Labour antisemitism. One in eight men (12%) say they could win a point in a game of tennis against Serena Williams. In a crazy sporting weekend, Serena loses to Simona Halep, Djokovic beats Federer, England win the Cricket World Cup & Lewis Hamilton the British Grand Prix. The first person to win it six times. The proportion of students getting a first-class degree in England has risen by 80% in the last 8 years. Scarlett Johansson, the highest-paid actress right now, in a cover story with "As If" magazine - "As an actor, I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job.”In the 1st of two Music segments: (7:22) Jermaine Dupri was in the news last week for basically de-valuing "Female Rappers". I put that phrase in quotes simply because we need to stop using the phrase. It makes females in Hip-Hop seem like they're an "other" when, in my mind, there are females in the game right now that are top tier. And we also need to quit bringing up this conversation when it's hot. There's talking the talk and then there's going to the artist's shows and buying hard copies of their work.In Film/TV: (23:37) The Emmy Nominations have dropped. You know the drill by now. I go through the major awards and deciding who *should* win and who *will* win. Put simply. "When They See Us" need to win everything. In the 2nd Music segment: (38:55) I explore Colourism in Music. Similar to the other Music segment, it takes the people above the social party in question to demand equity amongst themselves. In this case, "light-skinned" women have less of a hurdle to jump through than black women of a darker skin tone. (I don't like using the terms "Light/Dark-Skinned" but I use them for ease of conversation.) Is this systemic favouritism is too ingrained in society to change? And lastly, in the Life segment: (55:17) I actually talk about my life! This past month has been a challenge in many ways and I wanted to keep it real about how I was feeling about my work, my family and what is going on in the country. Thank you for listening! Ep.33 - Kawhi Leonard, The "Fun Guy" Gangster
EIn a week where:A UK Advertising Watchdog determined that having 30K followers on your Social Media makes you a celebrity. The US Women's National Team wins the Women's World Cup for the fourth time.MP's vote to liberalise abortion in Northern Ireland. And the Award for "Most Ironic Moment of 2019" goes to Tommy Robinson pleading the US Government to grant him asylum. In Sports: (5:06) Kawhi Leonard pulls off the ULTIMATE G move. Keeping every NBA fan and THREE organisations on tenterhooks for days, only to go for the least likely destination AND forcing his team (The LA Clippers) to gut their future to gain Paul George from OKC who was 3rd in MVP voting this past season. Not even LeBron James has pulled off a boss move of this calibre and it has sent shockwaves through the NBA. I believe this level of player power is only the beginning. In the first of two Film/TV segments: (19:17) There has been a recent influx of films that depict racists becoming humanised. Where they're racist at first but for whatever reason, they see the error of their ways. It's jarring to think about and sets a dangerous cultural precedent. Speaking of 'dangerous cultural precedent'. In the 2nd Film/TV segment: (33:54) White men have a monopoly on art criticism. From Film to TV, to Music, even Fine Art & Theatre, white men get to dictate what is good art. Now, this isn't new, but what is new, is that in all facets (Music has always had this...) of the Arts, there are now a significant amount of artists of colour. The demographic is changing, but art criticism is staying put. This also links to the previous segment. Hence why "Green Book" won "Best Picture" & "Skin" (Google it) won Best Short Film" at the '19 Oscars.Lastly, in Life: (47:54) There is now a device that can create not just Solar Power but can also create clean drinking water. If developed further, this can kill two birds with one stone and help millions gain electricity and clean water for their homes. Whilst I'm always sceptical of things like this actually happening and genuinely being implemented, I'm happy that some are still pushing to help the fellow man.Thank you for listening! Ep.32 - Stormzy, NBA Free Agency & Global Heating
EIn a week where: Wimbledon begins with plenty of amazing results including World No.2 Naomi Osaka crashing out of R1 & 15 Year Old Cori Gauff beating her idol Venus Williams. Hong Kong protests get violent as some protesters storm, vandalise & tag the walls of the Parliament Building. Max Verstappen charges through the field to win the Austrian GP, a far cry from the French GP which led to people asking "Is F1 dying? In Sports: (6:10) NBA Free Agency is in the fullest of swings. Day 1 was the most eventful day of Free Agency the NBA has ever had and I decided that we would take a quick tour of teams not named the Los Angeles Lakers. Brooklyn is (on paper) relevant again, Philly has extended their championship window, the Utah Jazz is looking beast and I only scratched the surface. In Film/TV: (21:30) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (AMPAS. The people responsible for the Oscars.) have released their invites to the Academy. 800+ people were invited this year but some of the invites and omissions are odd and makes me wonder whether the invites are a) Justified. And b) Partly why the winners can be so skewered. In Music: (34:15) Stormzy made several statements during his Glastonbury performance. Black ballet, the symbolism of being a black rapper in front of a historically white festival and, what I want to talk about, how he has cemented my opinion that we're entering a Golden Age for UK Black Music.Lastly, in Life, (42:12) The Antarctic is now melting at a crazy rate. But I instead talked about why the cycle of outrage, caring, not knowing what to do, realising it can't be remedied by a switch flip and then we move on with life until the next scary headline hits. It's a constant cycle and we need our respective Governments to make changes, make laws to do better as a society. Thank you for listening! Ep.31 - Multiculturalism = Knowledge
EIn a week where: Tory leadership ballot is down to four, Boris Johnson still (somehow) the front-runner. The legendary Paul Crowther who milkshaked Farage has pleaded guilty for common assault and has to pay Farage's suit cleaning bill. Arctic permafrost in the Canadian Arctic is thawing 70 years sooner than predicted. Donald Trump still thinks the CP5 did it. 3 Russians & 1 Ukrainian are charged with shooting down MH17. Homophobic and transphobic hate crimes surge in England and Wales. In the first of two Sports segments, (9:18) the NBA 2018-19 season is over. Toronto are the champions, much to my chagrin. But I decided to look at it from a broader lens and when you change the angle, you realise that this is great for the NBA in the long run.For the Life segment, (23:05) Hong Kong is currently butting heads with China, resulting in arrests and mass protests 2 Million strong. It's a sight to behold but why exactly are the protests going down? Rest assured, it's looking like a "Big Bank take Little Bank" situation. For the 2nd Sports segment, (33:50) you may remember that I talked about the BS ruling that the IAAF gave on Caster Semenya a few weeks ago. After getting the ruling suspended temporarily, Semenya has continued racing and has spoken on wax about it all.And for the Film/TV segment (43:32) the Head of ITV Comedy has abolished "All-Male" writing rooms in the effort to bring more female pens. You may see this as PC culture, but it's statistically logical to have more diversity, not just in the writing, but also in casting and directing. Multiculturalism = knowledge.Thank you for listening! Ep.30 - Central Park Five, NBA Finals & Sudan
ENew Music, same intro, better quality show!In a week where: Seb Coe unveils the IAAF's new name and logo - 'World Athletics'. Justin Bieber challenges Tom Cruise to an MMA fight. We begin with Film/TV (6:50) where after the premiere of Ava DuVernay's "When They See Us", a Limited Series about the Central Park Five, people are starting to hold the real-life prosecutors to account. One of which, Linda Fairstein, has lost her publishing deal in the aftermath of the show. Because the show has killed her cash flow, she takes to The Wall Street Journal to write an Op-Ed defending her choices and besmirching the show. But the whole thing is pointless because she agrees that the man who actually committed to the crime cleared the five. Wasted words simply because she's lost cash. Life comes at you fast...In Sports (24:30) The NBA Finals is still going after the Golden State Warriors pulled back a game to make the series 3-2 against the Toronto Raptors. A lot happened in Game 5. From the close game to the Raptors fans cheering after Kevin Durant ruptured his Achilles. This whole series is ugly and I want it to mercifully end... But I still want GS to win...In the first of two Life segments, (35:10) in the run-up to the Conservative Leadership election, two MP's in Michael Gove & Andrea Leadsom have admitted that they took drugs at one point in their lives. I'm not sure if they're trying to relate to us or something, but the fact that they're terrible at their jobs is more than enough for me to not want any of them to be the next PM.And lastly, (43:50) I knew I had to talk about Sudan and all the tragedies going on there. But I also wanted to talk about the 2nd Anniversary of Grenfell, so I focused on Sudan because there are many people spreading the word, but I want people to take another step and either donate or educate themselves on the reasons why there are massacres and why these atrocities link to other problems in the Middle East.Thank you for listening! Ep.29 - Anthony Joshua, Chernobyl & RIP iTunes
EHappy Pride Month everyone! In a week where: EE rolls out 5G Networks in the UK.Trump & the family visit the UK.Caster Semenya wins her Swiss Court appeal to temporarily suspend the new "Semenya Rule". A Stanford study shows that Islamaphobia has dropped 19% in Liverpool & 50% in anti-muslim tweets since Mo Salah joined. And a study shows that 25 cups of coffee a day is safe for heart health. (25 cups of anything surely isn't good for your health.)We start with Sports (3:51) where Anthony Joshua took his first L in professional boxing, by a dude that eats steak and a BAR OF SNICKERS BEFORE HE FIGHTS. Jokes aside, big ups to Andy Ruiz Jr. I didn't watch the fight but I certainly caught the memes the next day and they were glorious. Consider my TV attendance to the next fight sorted, whether it's in Mexico, LA, NY or London. In the Life segment (15:00) John Cleese has been on the wire, talking in "peak white man" fashion. He has talked about London not being "how it used to be" and has now doubled down on his thoughts, citing one Californian friend that asked him where are the English people? We all know what this means and it's not just Cleese perpetuating this toxic language, our politicians have done it for decades. For Film/TV (34:30) "Chernobyl" a limited series by HBO & Sky has recently ended holds the top spot in the IMDB audience ratings. I haven't seen it but it must be at least half decent if it managed to pip shows like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and everything David Attenborough touches right? And for Music, (45:30) Apple has recently announced that they're killing iTunes and basically is replacing it with three specialist apps. This is symbolic in name only but is a bad omen for things to come as it pertains to artist income. Someday, Apple will stop doing digital downloads, which will be great for places like Bandcamp but terrible for the majority of artists that rely on digital downloads as a healthy part of their income.Thank you for listening! Ep.28 - Spike Lee Is Ignorant
EIn a week where: Theresa May finally accepted the inevitable and made an announcement to resign, prompting a leadership campaign that came so fast, you'd almost think that MP's are trying to make career moves...We move that aside for the week and talk about Film/TV (2:35) where Spike Lee has decided to talk about the apparently large debate about Black British actors going to the US to further their careers. On S2 of "She's Gotta Have It", a couple of characters in the show talk about Black British actors, harking back to the comments Samuel L Jackson made about Daniel Kaluuya getting the role in "Get Out". The role in question was an American black man. Apparently, because Kaluuya is British, he doesn't have the "Burden" of being black in the way that African Americans have...Spike Lee doesn't just comment on it, he doesn't just expose himself that he's uneducated in the subject, he puts it on wax, on his baby. Well done, you played yourself. For the Life segment, (21:55) the concept of Facial Recognition Software on our streets is MUCH closer than you think. To the point of trials already being done in some towns & cities. Funny how we talked about Orwell last week and now we're talking about Facial Recognition... This is a topic that is highly relevant and it's a collective ethical decision we need to make. There's potential for racial, gender bias, there are qualms about privacy. Do you want to be scanned while you're on your local High street? There are many questions that need to be answered but maybe it's already too late.Lastly, for Sports, (33:16) The NBA Finals are here! And instead of talking about the series where I simply ask "Give me a reason not to pick Golden State", I talk about Drake for the majority, simply because I'm debating on whether to keep up with it all, strictly because of him.Not sure about you, but I don't keep up with the NBA for Drake. If I wanted to keep up with Drake, I'd follow him on IG. Simply put, NBA Social Media need to pump the brakes on the Drake content. Thank you for listening! Ep.27 - What We Know, Known & Should Know
EIn a week where: Kanye & Kim named their new kid PSALM. The European Elections loom over a UK that doesn't know whether to take it seriously or not. MILKSHAKES have become the symbol of being against the far-right. And RIP to Niki Lauda, who died aged 70. In the first of two Life segments, (4:45) George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four is considered one of the most well-known texts in recent history. While it might not be the best "novel" from an objective view when adding real-world context to what happens in the book, it's cultural & societal reach/commentary cannot be overstated. I've been thinking about the book a lot recently and the article I read from gave me a good reason to talk about it.For the 2nd Life segment, (15:26) a Nationwide study has concluded that Racism in the UK has risen significantly in every category. Whether it's on social media or in person, factually, the UK is more discriminatory than it was over two years ago. The article makes a loose connection to the EU vote which in my opinion, sparked something bad, to the point where it's taking steps to become more normalised. In Sports, (32:45) after the 6-0 butchering of Watford by Manchester City in the FA Cup Final, the questions of "Is Football Broken?" rise once again. The article read basically says yes but I make a point that maybe we're too late in asking this.Finishing with the Film/TV segment, (46:47) Game Of Thrones has mercifully ended, to a majority of cheers since the much-hyped 8th and final season was panned by most people. The day after, Breaking Bad fanboys/girls came out of the woodwork to claim once again that Breaking Bad is the best show of the 21st Century. To which I heartily say "Hell no." I give my reasons by not talking about the good of some shows that are considered the best (Breaking Bad, The Sopranos & The Wire are usually the three brought up.) but focusing more on the negatives the shows have. In which I conclude that The Wire is the best.Thank you for listening! Special - Gods Of Rap
ELast Friday, I headed to London with one of my "Day 1's" Tyler to go to the "Gods Of Rap" Tour at The SSE Arena, Wembley. De La Soul, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan & DJ Premier. First night. So I thought to myself, why not do some on-site recording and have this once in a lifetime event on digital wax! And that's exactly what happened! Before the show, Tyler & I talked about our excitement for the concert, how we got into Hip-Hop and also talked some football as well since we were days off the historic comebacks & results in the Champions League. We then gave our immediate reactions to the FIVE HOUR show and who we'd like to see for the rumoured "Gods Of Rap 2".I also recorded some snippets of the three main acts so it's not all just talking. It was a night to remember I for one was entirely grateful for the event.Rate & ReviewE-Mail: [email protected]: @The5thElementUKWebsite: https://medium.com/@the5thelementOther Podcasts Under The 5EPN:Diggin' In The Digits5EPN RadioBlack Women Watch...In Search of SauceThe Beauty Of Independence
Ep.25 - Facebook, Ramadan & F***ing AirPods
EIn a week where:A report by The Observer reports that Black people ‘40 times more likely’ to be stopped and searched in the UK. (In other news, the sky is blue.) "What's Good?" is now a quarter-century in! Gimme three Hip-Hop Hoorays! We begin with the Life segment (2:49) where Facebook has recently cut off several right-wing nutjobs from FB & Instagram, including the spiritual leader of the nutjobs, Alex Jones. They also added to the list Minister Louis Farrakhan who isn't a right-wing nutjob but has made some clear-cut anti-semitic statements over the years. Some notable people including Snoop Dogg have attacked the shutting down Farrakhan received. This is a notable action taken by Facebook here, one that will be constantly looked back on as we go deeper into the conversation of Social Media & Freedom Of Speech. Two Sports segments for this episode! The first (14:47) is about several stories in American Sports that all connect to how white people in power have recently complained either about the "Good Ol' Days" or have gone against their morals to hold up a completely different moral.Barry Hearn, Donald Trump & Bob Aram are the notable men in this piece and it's very fascinating how white men in power are slowly losing it and feel it's fine to point at black men and say "It's their fault".The 2nd Sports story, (31:00) I wanted to talk about Ramadan, but I'm very uneducated on it, so I decided to talk about something I do know (Basketball) and it's specific link to Ramadan. Case in point, Hall Of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon and how throughout his career in the '90s, participated in Ramadan, WHILE playing basketball! The story is crazy to think about but for Muslims of the world, must be incredibly inspiring. Finally, in the Music segment, (43:16) I talk about the one product that is making my blood boil. Apple AirPods. Here is a thing that is all the rage, is in memes and is considered a status symbol. But let's be honest, it functions as an earphone, is trash. Plastic earphones have been obsolete for over 15 years, but for some reason (we know the reason really...) people flock to this one. It's a joke from every angle and I seek to shame.Thank you for listening! Ep.24 - Endgame, Caster Semenya & John Singleton
EIn a stacked show with only three topics, I dive right into the first segment. For the Sports segment, (2:16) The IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) has won a landmark case against 800m specialist Caster Semenya. This means that if Semenya wants to race professionally over distances between 400m & Mile, (the distances she specialises in...) she will be forced to take (very harmful) drugs that will lower her testosterone levels. This is discriminatory and a witch hunt against one particular person. This story is far from over.In the Life segment, (16:36) groundbreaking writer & director John Singleton has died at the age of 51. His movies such as "Boyz N The Hood", "Poetic Justice" & "Higher Learning" are set in stone as trail-blazers in African-American cinema. But Singleton didn't stop there. Producing both in Film & Television, helping other black writers, actors & directors find their platforms & voices. He & Spike Lee CARRIED the 90's and he'll be immortalised by his filmography and the people he put on.In the Film & TV segment, (30:21) I'm giving you guys something special. I saw Avengers: Endgame a few days ago with my best friend David and we were so hyped before, during and after the film that I proposed that we record our thoughts. So 10 minutes after leaving the cinema, we found a place to sit down and talk it over. It's super informal and ALL over the place. Enjoy.Thank you for listening! Ep.23 - Amritsar, Reality TV & Y'all Boy Drake
EIn a week where: A redacted version of the Mueller Report is released. Hundreds are arrested in London as part of the "Extinction Rebellion" protests. Quavo invades my social media ad space with his BooHoo Man collab. (So many questions) And A 74-year-old Welshman is shot with a crossbow outside of his home!We begin with Life (4:44) and taking a look back at the Amritsar massacre. If you don't know what it is, then that's kind of the point I'm trying to make, talking about crimes committed by the former British Empire. Crimes that aren't taught in schools, because the powers that be want to keep a sheen of "Commonwealth is family" when in fact, if the Commonwealth was a family then Britain was an illegitimate father that beat its children and now don't want to dwell on the past because... Well, a lot of reasons. Some expressed in this segment. From neglecting the past to bringing up the past as in the Sports segment (18:47) The New York Yankees & Philadelphia Flyers have recently stopped using the music of Kate Smith, a popular singer in 1930's America. The reason? Because she created music that was super racist. So racist that I couldn't help but laugh because of how obvious it was. Why did it take until 2019 for people to clock that she had songs like "Pickaninny Heaven"? (No lie, that's legitimately the name of the song!)In the Film & TV segment, (30:10) my GOAT, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hops on The Hollywood Reporter to talk about famous people using their kids as publicity tools. Specifically in the Reality TV space (US Political spaces as well) where I wonder, if they're using their children when they're cognisant of what's going on, then maybe their conception was part of the script? In the Music segment, (44:32) I talk about Drake who has recently addressed the label that has been thrust upon him many times. "Culture Vulture". Now, I don't want to give away my thoughts on this. Let's just say that's not the label I would personally use. Although I'd understand if that is the destination someone would arrive at. Thank you for listening! Ep.22 - Tiger Woods, Wheel Spinning & White Fragility
EIn a Week Where: Sudan's Army removes leader Omar Al-Bashir after 30 years in power. Julian Assange is arrested and taken out of the UK/Ecuadorian Embassy, facing extradition to the US. The Notre Dame Cathedral burns down. Hopefully, the UK Government doesn't lash money. (Cough cough Grenfell) And it's reported that Amazon staff listen to customers' Alexa recordings (TOLD YOU SO)We begin with Life (3:48) where the process of the UK leaving the EU is now going to be strung out for another SIX MONTHS after the EU gave the UK an extension, with a June summit as a defacto check-up. It seems that it doesn't matter who's in charge, the wheel keeps spinning but yet not move forwards at all. At this point, everybody involved is to blame. In the Music segment, (15:19) Stormzy recently pulled out of Snowboming, hours before he was due to headline, citing racial profiling carried out by security personnel at the Festival. This zero tolerance attitude Stormzy holds is not only highly commendable but highly necessary and I think every BAME artist or a person of note should incorporate into their profession, regardless if money is on the table. In the Film/TV segment, (23:01) Myriam Francois details white fragility in an amazing piece that responds to the Jon Snow/"white people" debacle that occurred a couple of weeks ago. It's a perfect articulation on whiteness and how white people need to acknowledge their whiteness. Finally, in the Sports segment, (34:41) Tiger Woods has finally won a Major, 11 years after his previous Major title. Since then, he's been through scandal, injuries, surgeries, criticism and mental battles. It's one of the greatest sporting comebacks in recent memory. Ep.21 - Netflix, Dwyane Wade & Personal Venting
EIn a week where: Families at the Empire Cinema in Ipswich said their children were left in tears after seeing adverts for psychological horror Ma and scary superhero flick Brightburn. And a Blackhole picture is captured for the first time ever, labelled a "Breakthrough".For the Film/TV segment, (2:05) Helen Mirren says "Fuck Netflix", pandering to Hollywood big wigs & US Theatre owners. The whole one-sided argument between Netflix & Hollywood is ludicrous. It's not a war on quality, it's a war of necessity. Hollywood got it all the way backwards. For the Sports segment, (17:04) my first favourite NBA player, Dwyane Wade is retiring and I just wanted to give thanks and express why I am a fan of him, not just as a basketball player but as a person of note. Salute to the L3gend.And for the Life segment (24:18) I just needed to keep it real and speak about what's been on my mind recently. Ep.20 - RIP Nipsey Hussle
EIn a week where: Top Boy Season 3 IS FINALLY coming!!! Over 6 Million people signed a UK Government petition to revoke Article 50, only for it to be rejected. In the Music segment, (3:53) the legendary MC Shan snaps on Instagram, saying "Fuck Hip-Hop". Praising the fans and firing all the shots at the business side of Hip-Hop. Something that is mentioned later in the show.In the Film/TV segment, (18:23) the BAFTA TV Nominations dropped last week, I go through the list of nominees and kick myself for not watching the shows I've been meaning to watch over the year.In the Sports segment, (36:30) The Bahrain Grand Prix came & went, the highlight being Charles LeClerc's unfortunate mechanical fault killing his chances at his first career F1 win. But along with the reaction towards this and Mick Schumacher testing for Ferrari & Alfa Romeo. I take shots at the F1 fans that overblew LeClerc's finish and the F1 for what I see as fast-tracking Mick Schumacher simply because of his surname. For the Life segment, (46:44) we circle back to Hip-Hop business and link it to Nipsey Hussle's legacy not just as a rapper, but as a businessman. His death highlights a lot of things, but I wanted to highlight how he used his platform in the most genuine way possible. If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.19 - I Welcome Disney As Hollywood Overlords
EIn a week where: England Councils demand £1B for sprinklers for Tower Blocks. Trump takes semi-reveal of the Mueller report as a W. The European Parliament passed Article 13. More than 1.5M people spanning Mozambique, Zimbabwe & Malawi were affected by Cyclone Idai.We begin with Sports (2:52) and the game between Montenegro & England. While the game was great, it was marred by racist chanting by Montenegro fans. Prompting the potential punishment of UEFA shutting off some of the stadia for Montenegro's next game. That is a weak punishment. For the Film/TV segment, (14:55) Disney have finally swallowed 21st Century Fox, becoming the most dominant force in Film & Television. For $71B (£54B) they now have Fox's Film & TV studios which includes assets such as X-Men, Avatar, Deadpool, Kingsman, FX & National Geographic. For the Life segment, (26:55) The EU have made a call for action, asking member states to do more in tackling racism towards Europeans of African descent. It's not a legally binding vote but the fact that dialogue is happening as it pertains to acknowledging past crimes against humanity and systemic racism is a great step forward. For the Music segment, (41:17) In the aftermath of the US College Admissions Scandal, Dr Dre decides to flex. Posting that his daughter got into USC on merit. This was flagged quickly by people, noting that Dre spent $70M to have an entire department in USC named after him and partner Jimmy Iovine. If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.18 - March Madness, Kodak Black & White Supremacy
EIn a week where: Valtteri Bottas went beast mode in Australia for the first race of the 2019 F1 Season. I went to see Mick Jenkins live in Brixton. The world watches New Zealand as they try to heal from a horrible mass shooting. For Sports (2:32) I talk about March Madness, explaining the tournament for people that have no idea what it is and why it's probably the most entertaining sports tournament in the World.A WG first, we have two topics for one segment. 1st Music story, (16:26) is all about MySpace wiping all music & other content from it's inception to 2016. The 2nd story (26:47) is about Kodak Black and the many ways I class him a "Piece of S***". From using a homophobic slur towards NY rapper Young M.A. on wax & IG Live, to his over two-year long accusation of rape that is soon going to trial. For the Life segment, (40:24) off the back of the terrorist attack in New Zealand, I wanted to zoom out and talk about White Supremacy as a whole. From a macro to a micro level, White Supremacy is prevalent and it doesn't have to be violent to be toxic. If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.17 - Knife Crime Is A National Emergency
EIn a week where:Jussie Smollett pleaded innocent to 16 felony charges. An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashes, killing nearly 200 peopleDave dropped "PSYCHODRAMA" & got me in my feelings. We begin the show with Film/TV. (3:39) Talking about Will Smith and his illogical casting as Richard Williams in a Biopic about Serena & Venus' father. The news has brought up the conversation of Colourism and rightly so.For the Sports segment, (15:15) F1 IS BACK. Ya boy is hyped so I decided to do a few predictions ahead of the first weekend. Who will win the first race? Who will be the best out of the four newcomers? Who is the best duo on paper?! And of course, who will win the Drivers' & Constructors' World Championships? For the Music segment, (31:34) I wanted to talk about some words I read from lyricist Lupe Fiasco, talking about the news that radio stations across the world are taking Michael Jackson songs off the airwaves in the aftermath of the "Leaving Neverland" documentary. I reaffirm my opinions on MJ, R Kelly, the concept of "cancelling" and trying to put the "Art vs The Artist" conversation to bed.For the Life segment, (44:33) I wanted to talk about knife crime. Statistics show that it's not just a "city" or "urban" issue. It's a problem everywhere, it's a National issue, a National Emergency. But I feel like it'll fall on deaf ears because politicians are focused on their careers and "The Exit".If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Special - International Women's Day 2019
bonusEThis episode of "What's Good?" is a very special one and a very different episode from the normNo topics, not an hour of me talking about 3-4 topics. Instead, we focus on one particular topic. This episode drops on Friday 8th March, which is International Women's Day.Notice how I said, "we". Because for the first time on "What's Good", (The Podcast) I have called upon some friends to help me celebrate this day. I called out to several women, asked them to participate by answering two simple, open-ended questions and record their answers for the show. There were many reasons why I wanted to do this. The first reason was that I've already celebrated an "IWD" on "What's Good?". Way back in 2016, my 4th ever "What's Good?" as a Student Radio Show (NOTE: I say 3rd on the episode, it was my 4th.) was celebrating "IWD" and I created a playlist specifically for that episode. It's one of my favourite shows looking back. The 2nd reason was to echo the symbolism of "IWD". I wanted to show love to the women out there and give them some shine.I explain more in depth on the show, but the show mainly consists of the women I've come to know in varying capacities, answering two questions:1) What does being a woman mean to you?2) Who is your female hero, fictional or real, and why?The answers are all unique in their own right and in my opinion, are all great. I hope you enjoy as well, no matter who you are... Ep.15 - F*****g "Green Book"
EAwards SZN is over for another year. Capped off, as always, with The Academy Awards. And as you can see by the title. It would seem I would be angry about it all. But actually, apart from that one award, I'm very pleased with the results! For the Film/TV segment (3:06) I talk at length about the Oscars. The history makers, the "about damn time" awards and how the hell "Green Book" won Best Picture. For the Sports segment, (49:55… Yes, I talked about the Oscars for over 45 minutes…) I talk about Zion Williamson and the overall argument about paying US College Basketball (& College Football) players. And for the Life segment, (57:37) I wanted to check in with UK Politics and, it's gotten worse. "The Independent Group", while I respect them making a stand, this is probably the worst time to make a big career move. (which it is) Kind of like how it wasn't a good time to vote on "The Exit" at the time! It's been a long week for me personally, went to London for three days, the wallet is malnourished, but I still got your weekly dose of "What's Good?"Beginning with the Music segment, The BRIT Awards (1:58) which is probably the deadest Awards show in nearly every way from how I see it. Hosting is pound-for-pound the worst, rarely any upsets and when there are upsets, they make no sense. We then move swiftly onto Sports (10:51) which is all about the fresh conversation of 'Sportswashing' which talks about how oppressive regimes, mainly in the Middle East are buying football teams to "soften" their brand. The Life Segment (32:15) is a fun quiz I ran into recently. The NY Times created a "British/Irish Dialect Quiz" which asks you 25 questions about what & how we in the British Isles say certain things and maps them based on where other people who have taken the test are from. I find it fascinating how such a small island has so many nicknames for a woodlouse.Lastly, in the Film/TV segment (56:25) I finally talk about Jussie Smollett. I could've talked about it in earlier shows but I wanted to stay silent on it until the majority of the story panned out. It's still evolving but I wanted to recap the madness that has gone on so far. (CORRECTION: As part of the Film/TV segment, I say that there have been 21,000 hate crimes in the US in the past six years. It's not in a six year span, it's actually between 2016-2018...)If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.13 - BAFTAs & Grammys... Predictable
EThe two most predictable Award ceremonies have been & gone. Predictable, but for different reasons. We begin the show with The BAFTAs (2:08) which is predictable for hailing British films (As they should) but to the point where it was a bit too much. You will hear "The Favourite" a lot...I also talk about the severe lack of giving screenwriters credit, something I hope to eradicate when I make it to that level .Then we get to the Grammys (19:38) which is predictable for its glaring lack of actually awarding artistic achievement and just going for the most popular pick... Or the politically correct one... Or one that just doesn't make sense. Reasoned negativity galore! After a lengthy Grammys diatribe, we cool down with some Sports, (44:37) specifically the aftermath of the NBA Trade Deadline and my hope that Philadelphia gets waxed for their prior sins earlier this decade. And finally, for the life segment... (51:00) A 10 Year crime that is perfect for a blockbuster in the vein of "Wolf of Wall Street" but involving 12 countries and the ACTUAL FUNDING of "Wolf of Wall Street"!!!If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.12 - Liam Neeson + SuperBowl = Trash Week
EIt's been a trash week. I had a show in London that I couldn't get to because public transport bottled it. I've lost heating in my house for a week. BUT AT LEAST THE TOPICS ARE POSITIVE... Ah... Scratch that. For the Sports segment, (9:45) I talk about the SuperBowl that was trash everywhere you look. The slow death continues. For the Music segment, (15:48) 21 Savage is legally British. And while the memes have been glorious, there are so many more questions surrounding this that need to be asked. For the Film/TV segment, (25:17) Liam Neeson has caused headlines, but not for his new "Taken" retread dropping, but for admitting that he once used a friend's rape to fuel a WEEK-LONG bloodlust for a black person. And to finish, the Life segment (43:33) is simple. 15 Black Britons that everyone should know. And the list spans from 300AD to now.If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.11 - J.Cole, Anthony Davis & Education
EThe first month of 2019 finally up and out of the way, but it's not for me (as of recording). January gots to go! Bring on February! We begin with the Sports segment, (2:30) talking Anthony Davis shaking the NBA world by requesting a trade and everything surrounding that such as teams that want him, players linked to possible outcomes and, of course, the Lakers. For the Film/TV segment, (17:02) I talk about the politics of Awards SZN. Specifically "For Your Consideration" campaigns, using a Twitter thread by "Sorry To Bother You" director Boots Riley as the catalyst. For the Music segment, (25:19) I give an extremely loose opinion on J.Cole. I rate him, but I struggle to fall in love with his more recent works. Finally, for the Life segment, (40:02) I talk about an article I read on British BAME History, why it isn't taught in schools and how the Education System links with "The Exit". If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.10 - Oscar Noms, Right On Time
EOn the day of recording Episode 10 of "What's Good?", the Oscar Nominations drop! What a wonderful coincidence. So that's what we begin with, The Film/TV segment, (1:50) taking a look at the nominations for the 91st Academy Awards. For the Music segment, (21:22) I talk about an article that I have been infatuated with for years and has now been updated. Looking at Hip-Hop artists, their use of unique words and how large their vocabularies are!For the Sports segment, (36:18) I talk about the Philadelphia 76ers, who, even though they're a contender in the Eastern Conference, I still think their years of tanking was not worth it at all.And lastly, in the Life segment, (43:26) it was MLK Day recently and I honestly wonder if his legacy is that of a quote machine now and nobody actually seeks to learn from his ideologies. If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.9 - BAFTA, BRITs & Word Stumbling
EAwards SZN continues as we receive the nominations for the biggest awards in British Film & Music industries. We start with the Film/TV segment, (2:27) where I talk about the BAFTA Film Awards nominations. Safe picks galore. Then onto the Music segment, (19:39) where I look at the BRIT Awards. Never appointment viewing for me and the nominations affirm my non-viewership.For the Sports segment, (32:34) I talk about Andy Murray who's pretty much calling 2019 his farewell tour, which brings me to think about his legacy. And for the Life segment, (47:53) I wanted to talk about an article about the evolution of gangs and why young kids are getting into gang activity more these days. And I also have some extra thoughts as a little bonus! If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.8 - Globes, R.Kelly & An Anniversary
EIt has been an interesting week, to say the least. Which made for a show I really enjoyed recording. Hope you feel the same listening to it. For the Film/TV segment, (2:15) I talk about the results of the Golden Globes. Including winners, losers and me raging about "GreenBook" again...For the Sports Segment, (37:23) I talk about the two things that annoy me about the NBA right now. All-Star voting & James Harden/referees/the system. For the Music segment. (49:48) I talk about R.Kelly and everything that has transpired recently. And for Life, (58:36) I talk about one of my favourite TV shows ever turning 30 Years Old. A salute to "Desmond's".If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.7 - New Year, Same BS
EHappy New Year one & all! First "What's Good?" of 2019 is in full effect. For the Sports segment, (2:41) I talk about Sports punditry and how old ex-players are the most annoying people to listen to.For the Film/TV segment, (17:46) I talk about the booming British Film/TV economy and how it's under threat from, you guessed it, "The Exit".For the Music segment, (29:57) I cap off 2018 with my Top 10 Albums. And for the Life segment, (26:00) I talk Comedy. Is it dying? Is Political Correctness to blame or are comedians being elitist/bitching because the audience wants more nuance and/or variety? If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.6 - Reflection
ERecorded on Christmas Day, I thought I'd keep it loose and base a majority of the episode on reflecting. Reflecting on the Year 2018. But first, it was time for the Film/TV segment (4:00) where I talk about the resurfacing of a clip from 2011 HBO special "Talking Funny" wherein the clip in question. Comedians Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock & Louis CK talk about the N-Word. Sounds harmless until Gervais & CK actually utter the word & Rock doesn't check them on it.For the Life Segment, (12:04) it's time to look at the Forbes' "America's Wealthiest" where Jay-Z & Kylie Jenner are equal... That's America for you...For the Music segment, (18:09) I list my Top 10 EPs of 2018.And in place for the Sports segment, I simply talk about the Year I've had and how I feel about the past, present & future. (38:00)Last show of 2018, so with that said, hope you all have a safe New Years Eve and me & "What's Good?" will see you on the other side!If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.5 - 5E Top 20 Songs Of 2018
EWe are now fully into the Holiday period! For many of you, that means celebrating Christmas or whatever festive period you hold dear. For me, it's End Of Year Lists! But before that, we talk about the BBC Sports Personality of The Year ceremony in our Sports segment. (1:54) Highlights, general thoughts and awards that got people angry. For the Film/TV segment, (18:53) I talk about a new TV Film that's coming next year all about the "Vote Leave" campaign and the man that spearheaded it. This is while none of the dust surrounding the campaign has settled, making the film terribly mistimed. In the Life segment, (28:45) we talk about Santa. As a teacher in the US got fired for telling kids that Santa isn't real and people raging over articles talking about changing Santa's gender, I laugh at the people getting triggered over the wrong things such as Santa's (Who isn't real) gender. And in the Music segment, (38:49) I unveil the first of three 5E End of Year Lists. The Top 20 Songs of 2018.If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.4 - Award SZN Is Near
EAward SZN is nearly upon us! So I celebrate that fact in the only way I know how. Try to predict what will happen and probably fail miserably. For the Music segment (2:01) we look at the Grammy Nominations. Who should win and who will win.We continue the prediction train for the Film/TV segment, (24:10) The Golden Globes cover both mediums which is fun to chew on.We then move onto more serious matters for the Sports segment (40:19), talking about Raheem Sterling and the blatant racist abuse he received by Chelsea fans literally four feet away from him. Broadening the scope to race and Football as a whole. (Disclaimer: I do say what the fan said to Raheem a couple of times. Just a heads up.)And for the Life (57:26) segment, a little update on Britain leaving the EU. We now have the ability to call off Article 50 and act like none of this ever happened. If only it was that simple...And there's a little "What's Good Extra" at the end to finish on a lighter note.If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.3 - And... Exhale
EHaving not recorded for about two weeks, it was good to get back into it in my new environment. In this episode, I talk about what I've been doing between recordings in the Life segment. (3:55) Moving house and the stresses of that. For the Music segment, (26:03) I talk about seeing Ms Lauryn Hill live and trying to understand people's mixed feelings about her, her performance style and obviously, her perpetual lateness. (Shout out to @AllOnTheBoard, used their homage to Ms Hill to start the show) For the Sports segment, (38:47) I talked about why I think the NFL will die in less than 50 years. And lastly, for the Film & TV segment, (44:52) I talk about a film that's getting love from critics, but I see through its lazy conceptualisation. If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.2 - Setting The Record Straight
EEpisode 2 of "What's Good?" is all about setting records straight. For the "Music" section (1:14) we talk about Soulja Boy (Yes, you're still in 2018) and Drake. But less about them and more about the manner in which I talked about them… On Social Media comment sections. The "Film/TV" section (16:33) is all about Netflix and how their growth will soon rival that of Major Film Studios. More specifically, their efforts to enter the Oscar race. The "Sport" section (24:46) is all about Formula 1. With the F1 season now done for another year and Vietnam being announced as a new destination for future seasons. I'm really worried about where the Motorsport is going. The final section, Life, (32:25) is about the state of Britain right now. With nobody being happy about the EU leaving exercise, I feel numb about it all. Half anger, half contempt. I explain my feelings towards the landscape at the moment. If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly. Ep.1 - The Intro
For the first ever episode of the rebooted Podcast version of "What's Good?", I wanted to introduce the show itself and what it is all about. While doing so, I also wanted to give a little background of myself.Admittedly, I recorded this out of impatience & simply wanting to get something recorded. So this is a very loose episode structurally. But I hope you enjoy & join the journey from here on in.If you want to contribute to the show, whether it be sending me questions or voicing your opinion in any way, peep the contact links below and I'll respond accordingly.
