E

In a week where:Bob Iger returns as CEO of Disney. The World Cup is under way. World population cracks eight billion. At least 162 people killed and hundreds more injured after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s densely populated West Java province.Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Man Utd.1st of three Life segments: (8:43) With COP27 looking like it's not getting the job done, we're going to have to talk about Mass Migration due to the climate crisis. It's going to happen whether we like it or not.In the 2nd Life segment: (30:31) Billionaires have had an outstanding streak of Ls recently: Bankman-Fried, Bezos and of course Musk. If this year has told us anything, it's that billionaires ain't shit.In Music: (40:08) It seems that Drake has taken a turn in the past couple of years when it comes to his music, specifically his lyrical content. And it's finally starting to dawn on people that Drake might be garbage.Lastly: (51:40) With this being the final WG before my December hiatus, I take stock of the year.Thank you for listening! This gives me the perfect time to say that your employers don't care about you.In Radio: (39:55) An underrated W that the BBC has held for decades is it's diversity in radio, especially when it came to local radio. But now, they decided to axe African/Caribbean Local Radio shows.Lastly, in Arts: (52:54) Creative journeys are unique in so many ways but one ubiquity is that there will be successes and failures. Ep.207 - "We Put Ourselves First" W/ Apex Zero

E

This is one of the longest interviews I have done and for good reason. A week & change before this recording, Apex Zero was in the centre of an amazing proof of concept day of exhibition & immersive performance with "Drummer Warrior Storyteller", a multi-format project that was five years in the making and is only the beginning.I was invited to the day of note at Rich Mix in the heart of Shoreditch to look at the exhibition which featured photography, painting, visuals, fashion & even blacksmithing that provided a prelude for a performance that contained rap/spoken word, dance, ritual and drumming. With all that said, I spoke to Apex Zero about all of the above; but also his beginnings, his battles, travels, past projects and - of course - his Top 5.AND, for the second time, this will drop with my own photography which you can peep here. Be sure to spin the short film "Drummer Warrior Storyteller" which also dropped today & the EP which you can find here.Rate & ReviewE-Mail: [email protected]: @The5thElementUKWebsite: https://medium.com/@the5thelementIntro Music - "Baxter" By Brock BerriganChillHop MusicOther Podcasts Under The 5EPN:Diggin' In The Digits5EPN RadioBlack Women Watch...In Search of SauceThe Beauty Of Independence

E

In a week where:Twitter & Meta undergo major employee lay-offs.COP27 is underway in Egypt.Politicians bark at Just Stop Oil protesters as they continue their campaign.Gavin Williamson resigns as Cabinet Office minister over abusive messages. The US Midterms go down.In the 1st of two Life segments: (8:43) Remembrance Sunday dawns upon us, which means the poppy army will be (have already been) out in full force. But is the Poppymania waning? In Tech: (26:02) It's been around a fortnight since Elon Musk took over Twitter and day-by-day it's looking like Twitter is going down the loo. So should we get off Twitter? In the 2nd Life segment: (39:12) Male body dysmorphia is one of those things that is rarely talked about unless you're a man suffering (or have suffered) from it. But it turns out it's much more widespread than you think.Lastly, in Society: (56:36) I hate having to keep an eye on the US as much as I do with the country I reside - but when the US harbour one of the most influential religious sects in the world - we got to continue watching the nutters. 3-4 thousand miles away.Thank you for listening! And why are watchdogs having to state the obvious? In Film/TV: (14:10) With the pandemic speeding up the process, its pretty clear that TV is superior to film. They got the money, they're getting the views and everyone has a device to view it all. So what's stopping TV?In Music: (30:27) There's a type of music that's taking over the music industry - you may be like me and have never listened to it - but apparently white noise is the force that's putting musicians in a bottleneck.Lastly, in Society: (48:31) It has been more than six weeks since Iran plummeted into public outrage. And even in this short time - it's giving "Arab Spring" vibes - insofar as, it's doomed to fizzle out.Thank you for listening! Rishi Sunak is finally in No.10, and whilst it's aesthetically interesting that he's British-Asian, it means jack shit when rubber meets the road.In the first of two Tech segments: (20:14) We've all been involved in Phishing scams, but have you ever been involved in a Blue Check scam? Well, it's a thing now. In Arts: (32:23) Since Lockdown, The UK Arts sector has been clawing to get back to 2019 levels, to no avail. Now, as the cost of living crisis drags on, orgs up & down the country are on their last legs.Lastly, in the 2nd Tech segment: (48:02) I've talked about Voice Notes/Messages before on the show, I love them. Happy 100th birthday to the BBC.In Society - (7:42) There has been a lot going on in the UK recently and the the wider you look out, the more it's evident that societal collapse is very close to becoming a reality. In Life - (25:53) Battersea Power Station is back after a decades-long project to rejuvenate the 'accidental masterpiece'. And as with most "rejuvenations", its now a symbol for consumerism. In Sport - (41:52) The Qatar World Cup is now weeks away and the think pieces on it and sportswashing at large has begun. Starting with this meditation on Qatar itself and how its worse than 'Sportswashing'.Lastly, in Music - (52:52) I hate stans, I hate "Stan Culture". Good luck with that.In Society - (21:04) It's no surprise that Boomers don't get the true level of fucked people younger than them are at. Case in point, a woman fresh off the Tory Conference going in on the state of housing. In Music - (31:56) Rappers getting killed is seeming like a consistent occurrence these days. And whilst we can have the same argument that's been had since the dawn of time, there's always a deeper thread to pull.Lastly, in Life - (46:42) What's the longest you have gone without saying anything? A few minutes? Sure. A day? Unlikely. How about 17 years? One man has done just that and, ironically, has some words on the effort.Thank you for listening!
