Ep 285#285 Dave Aranda, Baylor Football Head Coach, on Winning the Big 12 Championship and Sugar Bowl in 2022, and the Importance of Authenticity, Vulnerability, and Finding Your Coaching Why

Dave Aranda is the Head Coach of Baylor Football, the 2021 Big 12 Champions and winners of the 2022 Sugar Bowl. A 2020 National Champion Asst. Coach at LSU and a 26-year coaching veteran, Dave Aranda was named the 28th head coach in Baylor Football history on Jan. 16, 2020. In 2021, Aranda's Bears tied for the best turnaround in college football, boasting a ten-win improvement from the previous year, including a school-record five wins against ranked opponents. Aranda came to Waco after four seasons as associate head coach and defensive coordinator at LSU, including a 2020 National Championship and a 2019 SEC Championship. Widely considered one of the top defensive minds in football, Aranda has a track record of producing NFL-ready players. In this conversation with John and Jerry, originally recorded for the 2022 Way of Champions Virtual Conference, Dave talks about his coaching journey, his first introduction to the Way of Champions through Jerry's book Thinking Body, Dancing Mind, and their long friendship. He talks about his struggles to be his authentic self while coaching a sport that often has in your face screamers as coaches, and how difficult it was to be a quiet, confident leader. Ep 283#283 Podcast Lessons That Changed the Way I Coach: Kris Van Der Haegen, Mark Upton and Mark Bennett from Season 1 and 2

Last week, the Belgium Red Flames Women's Soccer Team qualified for the knockout stages of the 2022 Women's European Soccer Championships, the first time the team has advanced that far in a major tournament. Our friend and popular podcast guest Kris Van Der Haegen is the assistant coach of that team, as well as Director of Coach Education for the Belgium FA, and we thought it would be good to share some of his best things we have learned from him. In our search we came across episode 80 from 2018, clips from three amazing podcasts in our first two seasons that changed the way John has coached his teams. Upon listening, we had to share it again. This episode contains lessons from Kris www.icoachkidseu.com, @KrisVDHaegen), Mark Upton (founder of www.MyFastestMile.com, @uppy01) and Mark Bennett (www.PDSCoach.com, @PDSCoach), long clips and then John's explanation on how these clips influenced his coaching, and how he implemented them. Our hope with the podcast is not just to disseminate information, but bring about change, not just for our listeners, but ourselves. These three coaches certainly did that and hopefully they will for you as well. This week's podcast is brought to you by our friends at Sprocket Sports. #280 Keagen Hadley, The ACL Therapist, on Overcoming the Psychological Challenges of Sports Injuries

Keagen Hadley (@theacltherapist) is an occupational therapy doctor specializing in using psychological treatments such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with his patients. As a patient and therapist, he has a deep understanding of the interventions and knows how emotional stress can interfere with rehabilitation, daily activities, and overall quality of life. As an athlete, he tore both ACLs playing college and semi-professional football. This experience made him acutely aware of the struggles associated psychologically post-ACL injury and how to overcome them with positive results. In our conversation today we discuss how psychological recovery is just as important as physically recovery, why we should throw out current timelines for recovery from major injury, and how injuries an add gasoline to other psychological/emotional issues that pre-exist the injury. This is a topic we have never devoted a full episode to before and its a very important one. Visit http://theACLtherapist.com for more information. Ep 268#268 Mark Bennett Masterclass Part II: How to Implement the PDS System, Avoid Common Mistakes, and Engage Parents and Coaches in the Process of Creating the Needs Centered Environment

In Part II of our Masterclass with Mark Bennett, founder of Performance Development Systems, we build upon last week's session and cover how to implement the PDS needs centered approach, how to avoid common mistakes, and how to engage fellow coaches and parents in the process. If you have come here first, we highly recommend starting with episode 267 or some of what we speak about will not make much sense. Mark Bennett (@PDScoach) has been one of our most popular guests over the years, and has been training, coaching & mentoring individuals and teams since the early 90s, including world and Olympic champions, professional rugby teams, the Cleveland Indians of MLB, and Oklahoma Thunder of the NBA. He joined the British Army in 1983 and passed the world famous Commando course in 1990, and while serving with 29 Commando Regiment as the senior instructor, running the Commando Training Wing, Mark was the first person to initiate structural change to the way soldiers were trained for the commando course. His work in this field culminated in the design of the Performance Development Systems; a holistic and robust approach to maximize real world performance for organizations, coaches and athletes. Following several years of running, designing and quality controlling "train the trainer" courses for the Military, Mark turned down promotion in order to leave the forces to commit to working on PDS full time. He has spent over 30 years researching and developing effective learning and adherence systems to help coaches and trainers maximize the performance of the individuals and teams they are working with. In 2006 Mark was awarded the Member of the British Empire (MBE) by her Majesty the Queen for his work in developing the system. In Episode 267, we discussed the foundations of PDS, including the Rule of 3, developing non negotiables, UAE's, and the importance of self awareness and state for both coaches and athletes. Mark has recently launched a super deep dive online course which you can get 25% off by entering Champion25 at this link. It is a great course that I have recently gone through and cannot recommend it highly enough. https://bit.ly/37riGVE ANNOUNCING THE 2022 WAY OF CHAMPIONS VIRTUAL CONFERENCE, JUNE 25-26: Yes, we are going virtual again in 2022, and we have already amassed an incredible lineup of guests that we are ready to announce, with more to come. Ep 267#267 Mark Bennett Masterclass Part I: Creating a Needs Based Coaching Environment, The Rule of 3, Developing Team Non-negotiables, and Getting Your Athletes to Take More Ownership of Training and Games

This week we bring you Part I of a two episode masterclass with Mark Bennett (@PDScoach). Mark has been one of our most popular guests over the years, and has been training, coaching & mentoring individuals and teams since the early 90s, including world and Olympic champions, professional rugby teams, the Cleveland Indians of MLB, and Oklahoma Thunder of the NBA. In part I of our talk, we discuss the foundations of PDS, including the Rule of 3, developing non negotiables, UAE's, and the importance of self awareness and state for both coaches and athletes. Mark has recently launched a super deep dive online course which you can get 25% off by entering Champion25 at this link.
