S1 Ep 177Do You Wanna Build a Theme Park?
This week, Dan is on vacation in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and it seemed like a good time to discuss this particular topic! Last month on our Patreon Subscribers Feed, we talked about this topic in one of our Carpool KHAAANN-versations: one topic discussed in the time that it takes us to get to work commuting down Route 3 between Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts. We'll discuss what attractions we might like to see, as well as what components we think a Star Trek themed park should have! Plus, don't forget that we have news and this week's exclusive FanSets discount code on The Flagship! S1 Ep 176The Wrath of Khan
It is the Star Trek film to which all others are invariably compared at some point or another. We'll discuss why we love this movie and what makes it the greatest of all time. Everything from favorite scenes to the captivating performance of the late Ricardo Montalban. S1 Ep 174Devil in the Dark
Essential Star Trek. Almost everyone has their own definition, but almost every Trek fan believes that this episode should be on that list--and we agree completely. "The Devil in the Dark" tells a story that speaks to the very heart of Star Trek and was some of the best science fiction produced for television then or now. We'll discuss why this episode is so truly amazing and why it still is one of Trek's best outings and why it has stood the test of time. Plus, we've got news and your exclusive FanSets discount code this week on The Biggest Little Show This Side of the Alpha Quadrant! S1 Ep 173How to Be a Star Trek Fan
Social Media. It brings out the best and worst in people. This can be especially true of Star Trek fandom. The loudest voices are a small minority trying to impact the fandom of others. That's why we're here! We'll tell you about why Star Trek fandom is so great and how to enjoy this thing we all love even more. We aren't doing this alone, though. We put out the call to our Official Facebook Group, Camp Khitomer, for help! You'll get to hear from some of the Campers on what Star Trek means to them, and why fandom is so important. FIVE YEAR MISSION We are truly grateful to our friends FIVE YEAR MISSION for allowing us to use their music for every episode of Trek Geeks. S1 Ep 172The Women of Star Trek
One of the reasons we love Star Trek is because of its incredible and amazingly strong women that have been a part of the franchise since the very beginning. Characters. Actors. Writers. Producers. Directors. Artists. They've all contributed to a rich tapestry for more than half a century and Star Trek wouldn't be what it is today without every single one of them. This week, we'll look at the characters that have helped shape this franchise at every turn. From Lieutenant Uhura to Michael Burnham, we'll discuss the characters that we feel are among the most ground breaking and those that have come to mean a lot to us. Obviously, there's no way we could discuss them all in a single Trek Geeks episode, so we'll spend the next year celebrating the contributions of women in Star Trek in every capacity. Plus, we'll have a special bonus segment with our dear friend, Lew Halboth, from FanSets to announce their brand new Women of Star Trek master set which will debut this summer at STLV---and how you could help determine future pins in this series! FIVE YEAR MISSION We are truly grateful to our friends FIVE YEAR MISSION for allowing us to use their music for every episode of Trek Geeks. They're creating one song for every episode of TOS and their brand new album is amazing! Get your copy of YEAR 4 right now over at FiveYearMission.net and, while you're at it, grab a copy of all their other fantastic albums: Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, The Trouble with Tribbles, and of course, Spock's Brain! April 5, 2063. Bozeman, Montana. First Contact between Humans and the visitors from Vulcan. ...or...was it? Turns out in 1957, the initial contact we never knew about occurred in Pennsylvania when a Vulcan ship crash landed in the woods outside a small town in the eastern United States. This week, we'll take a look at Carbon Creek from Star Trek: Enterprise's second season. T'Pol's second foremother was part of a group of Vulcans stranded in a Pennsylvania mining town in 1957. We'll see how they assimilated into life in a small town filled with lots of humans. We'll discuss what makes this episode so great and why we love it. S1 Ep 169The Killing Game
Back in October of 2018, we met our new friend Emilie at Northeast TrekCon in Albany, NY. We asked her to tell us her favorite Voyager episode and she didn't wait very long to tell us it was the two-part epic, "The Killing Game," from Star Trek: Voyager's fourth season. We told her that we'd cover that episode just for her and that's what we're doing this week! Then, we gave her homework. We asked Emilie to leave us a voicemail telling us WHY The Killing Game was her favorite Voyager episode. So, this week, hear in her own words why this episode is so great, and then you'll hear us break it down--and, is there ever a lot to talk about! Holograms, Hirogen, and...Klingons?! Yep---KLINGONS! S1 Ep 153Geek the Stump
Throughout the decades, Star Trek fans have always tested each other at trivia. They challenge one another with seemingly impossible questions to celebrate the most obscure and celebrated aspects of Star Trek. Yeah, that's not what's going to happen today. This week, Bill will have to answer questions along the level of Teen Jeopardy in "Geek the Stump!" (Dan's turnabout response to our fan-favorite "Stump the Geek" episodes.) Will Bill be able to answer the questions that a fifth grader who has only ever seen Trek ONCE could solve? We'll see! (It's a good thing he's on vacation because he may not want to come back after this performance!) Enjoy the fun and the good times of Geek the Stump on this week's installment of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast! S1 Ep 141Odo & Quark
Of all the relationships in Star Trek, perhaps none is as layered and complex as the one between Odo and Quark. On one side, you have the lawful Odo who is responsible for ensuring the safety of one of the Alpha Quadrant's most strategic locations. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country debuted in 1991 and it marked the end of the adventures from the cast of the original Star Trek. A whodunit with political overtones, this movie was a great success, leaving many wondering why it was the last movie with Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest of the Enterprise crew.
