S1 Ep 224To Be Continued...
Some episodes of Star Trek are just so epic, they can't be contained to a mere hour of television. The precedent started in 1966 with Star Trek's, "The Menagerie," and it's a format that occurred all the way up through Star Trek: Enterprise: the two-part episode! Sometimes they're a cliffhanger to give us something to anticipate over the summer hiatus and, other times, they're stories that happen mid-season. In any case, there are things to love about all of them and we'll dive into some of that this week. Joining us to talk about some legendary two-parters are Patreon producers Christina Werther and Chris Tribuzio! It's a fun discussion that we hope you'll enjoy. Plus, like the topic at hand, it takes more than an hour to talk about this fantastic topic! Plus, since there's no possible way we could talk about them all, we want to know YOUR favorite two-parters! Let us know on social media! FIVE YEAR MISSION The music of Trek Geeks comes from none other than Five Year Mission and Episode 16 of Five Year Mission: The Podcast is available now! Speaking of two-parters, this week the guys take a look at the epic DS9 episodes, "Past Tense I & II" with Jim Moorhouse from the Trek Ranks Podcast! This week, we're incredibly proud to bring you the audio from our Feeding America Charity Livestream with Star Trek: The Next Generation's Jonathan Frakes! We'll talk about his career, returning to the Captain's Chair as Captain William T. Riker, and we'll even put Jonathan in the hot seat and play a game of "This or That!" It was an amazing night and we raised money to provide just over 56,000 meals to people in need! While our campaign is over, you can still help those in need by donating to Feeding America directly through their website. THIS OR THAT What were the choices Jonathan Frakes had to make in the game we played with him? See the images that he saw on the Trek Geeks website! S1 Ep 222Coda
Star Trek has always told stories about the human condition and, this week, we look at an episode that truly explores "the final frontier." "Coda" from the third season of Star Trek: Voyager is part time loop and part alien infiltration. In it we see Kathryn Janeway die over and over and over--and we learn things about her crew that we might not have learned otherwise. It is an amazing episode with layer upon layer of character building. We'll dive in on this hugely underrated episode in this week's Trek Geeks and tell you why it's better than you probably think it is! S1 Ep 221Dr. Erin Teaches Science to Two Idiots
What happens when you take someone who is an astrophysicist and consults on Star Trek and subject her to explaining the science behind things to...well...us? We're not sure, either, but we're pretty sure that her head exploding might be a possible outcome! You might have seen her at STLV or maybe even in her online series, "Dr. Erin Explains the Universe." This week, we welcome Dr. Erin MacDonald to the podcast to talk about the science of things in Star Trek and whether or not some of these things make sense. Plus, we'll talk about the rescheduled dates for STLV and give you an update on our online fundraiser for Feeding America in this week's episode of The Flagship of the Trek Geeks Podcast Network! S1 Ep 220Lost Audio from Kingsland
It's only taken us four years but this week on Trek Geeks, we'll right a grievous error. If you recall our 100th episode, "A Journey to Future's Past, Part I: Beaming Aboard Star Trek Continues," we told the story of our trip Kingsland, Georgia and visit to sets of this legendary fan film series. We told you about the people we met and how our love for The Original Series had been rekindled. We brought you a story of family. It was the most ambitious episode we've ever done: an audio documentary in the style of National Public Radio, and it's become a favorite among Trek Geeks listeners. It was an episode we still get feedback about, and it even led to us being a finalist for the Parsec Awards. It was our every intention to bring you part two of that story, and then CBS started making more Star Trek. They launched Discovery and we started a second podcast. Then we started a network. Now with eight Star Trek series in some form of production, we decided that we needed to bring you the conversations from Day 2 of our trip. So, in this episode, you'll hear from Grant Imahara, Wyatt Lenhart, and our dear friend Kasey Shafsky. Plus, we'll also have some audio of our final walkthrough of the sets before we said goodbye to the Starship Enterprise for the last time. Plus, find out about our charity livestream with Jonathan Frakes from Star Trek: The Next Generation coming up on June 11th! Get all the details! FIVE YEAR MISSION The music of Trek Geeks comes from none other than Five Year Mission and Episode 15 of Five Year Mission: The Podcast is available now! S1 Ep 218Strange Other Worlds
Over the decades, Star Trek has become part of international pop culture--to the point where references and parodies turn up in other productions. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and, if that's true, Star Trek is probably one of the most imitated and referenced shows in history. This week, we'll take a look at some of our favorite occurrences of Star Trek popping up in other media. Joining us for the conversation is our dear friend and fellow podcaster, Hayley Stoddart! Plus, get the details on Hayley's brand new podcast, SCIENCE STATION 2, coming to the Trek Geeks Network this year! Plus, find out how he's passing the time during this period of self-quarantine--and what games he's fond of playing! It's a truly delightful conversation and we hope you'll join us! S1 Ep 216Tuvix
Star Trek has always given us things to think about and topics to examine and discuss, but few episodes have generated the type of reaction as the one we'll discuss this week. We'll continue our salute to Star Trek: Voyager's 25th Anniversary this week as we look at the second season episode, "Tuvix." Part Tuvok, Part Neelix, and all the makings of a legendary hour of the franchise. Did Captain Janeway do the right thing--and what did it cost her? We'll discuss that and more this week! S1 Ep 214Star Trek: Picard Season 1
The return of Jean-Luc Picard to Star Trek was truly epic. The first season may have been only ten episodes, but it truly took viewers where no Star Trek had gone before. S1 Ep 213Say Something Nice, Part III
During this time of global pandemic, we thought to ourselves, "What could we do to give people a fun distraction and make them forget about COVID 19 for a while?" Then, we had the idea to take the normal episode of Trek Geeks we'd do and do it as a Live Stream! On Tuesday night, April 7, 2020, we did just that! We had a great time with everyone during "Say Something Nice, Part III," and we share the recording of that with you this week. Bill and Dan will each pick five things to say nice things about and, this time, they may be part of Trek or they may not! S1 Ep 212Chakotay
As our year-long celebration of Star Trek: Voyager's 25th Anniversary continues, this week we examine a character that we've really grown to love. As First Officer of the USS Voyager, he was responsible for executing the Captain's vision--but that wasn't how his path began in "Caretaker." A Maquis terrorist, he was thrust in to the role when stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Over time, he became indispensable to Captain Janeway and the epitome of what an outstanding Starfleet Officer should be. Join us this week as we look at Chakotay on the Flagship of the Trek Geeks Podcast Network! It's probably been at least a couple of weeks and you might be starting to get a little stir crazy. That's where we come in! S1 Ep 210BONUS: Distractions
bonusThis is the audio-only version of the live stream to Facebook/YouTube on March 19, 2020. There's a lot going on in the world, so let's get together and talk about…well…nothing! We could all use a distraction so we're going to do our best to provide one. We don't even know if we have a topic or a plan, but we'll give this a shot anyway! Join Bill, Sara, Barry, and Dan for a discussion about whatever comes up to distract us from the news of the day!

S1 Ep 210Embracing the Suck: Threshold
Last week we looked at one of Star Trek: Voyager's best episodes and now the pendulum must swing the other direction. It's probably one of the most maligned Voyager episodes of all time, and this week, we're going to look at it a little differently. Join us as we kick off a new series which looks at some episodes that aren't as popular and finds a reason to love them! It's "Embracing the Suck," and in this episode we'll examine Voyager's "Threshold" in our first installment. Even Brannon Braga calls it terrible, but we'll look at the reasons why you should love it and why it might not be as bad as nearly everyone thinks. Our year-long celebration of Star Trek: Voyager's 25th Anniversary continues and, this week, we look at one of Voyager's best. S1 Ep 208The Romulans
They're one of the most feared and most deceitful adversaries we've ever seen. From their first appearance in Balance of Terror, the Romulans have been a constant threat to Starfleet and the security of the United Federation of Planets. They've been featured pretty heavily in Star Trek: Picard, so we decided this would be a great time to look at this race. We'll examine the Romulan society and the history of the Romulans, plus we'll take a look at some of our standout episodes and some of our favorite Romulans ever. We'll examine the things that work (or don't) in this episode and how it might be even more relevant today than it was in 1994. S1 Ep 196The Completist
There are approximately 750 hours of Star Trek and fans who have seen every episode and movie are typically referred to as "completists." Until recently, Bill had not been part of that club. He hadn't seen most of Star Trek: Voyager and had a goal of finishing that by the 25th anniversary of the series in 2020. Just a couple of weeks ago he completed the series, earning him his completist badge and we figured it would be a great time to hear his thoughts on the fourth live action Star Trek series. Joining us to celebrate the milestone is our good friend John Krikorian from the Trek Profiles podcast--who is also in the midst of trying to finish Voyager for the first time! S1 Ep 192The Corbomite Manuever
It was the third hour of Star Trek ever produced, and it's considered among the best of The Original Series. S1 Ep 191What I've Learned From Saru
EPARENTAL ADVISORY: The following episode contains adult themes, adult language, and a frank discussion on child abuse and its aftermath. PARENTAL DISCRETION IS STRONGLY ADVISED. Earlier in 2019, Bill wrote a column for the Official Star Trek Website titled, "What I've Learned From Saru." In it, he discussed what the Kelpien from Star Trek: Discovery has taught him in his journey living with anxiety. As he continued to examine the character, he found that he identified with Saru in more ways than he thought. This episode contains very personal and disturbing revelations about Bill's childhood and, as a result, we are cautioning parents that this installment may not be suitable for younger listeners. FIVE YEAR MISSION Episode 2 of Five Year Mission: The Podcast is available now and you'll hear Mike and Fark have a discussion on "Is It REEEEEAL Or Is It FAAAAAAAAKE?" Make your Mondays suck a whole lot less and subscribe now on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever you download podcasts! 5YM, of course, is every note of music you hear on the Trek Geeks podcast, and we couldn't be more grateful. "Face of the Enemy" debuted in 1993 and it instantly became a favorite of fans everywhere. Counselor Troi is kidnapped by Romulans and her appearance is changed so she can assume the identity of a Tal'Shiar operative to help dissidents defect to the Federation. Star Trek has had a lot of holodeck stories where a malfunction has posed danger to the crew, but the concept rarely gets executed better than Voyager's third season episode, "Worst Case Scenario." S1 Ep 179Available Light
It's the first Star Trek: The Next Generation novel in nearly two years and it picks right up with the fallout from the exposure of Section 31! "Section 31, the covert organization which has operated without accountability in the shadows for more than two centuries, has been exposed. Throughout the Federation, the rogue group's agents and leaders are being taken into custody as the sheer scope of its misdeeds comes to light. Now Starfleet Command must decide the consequences for numerous officers caught up in the scandal—including Admirals William Ross, Edward Jellico, Alynna Nechayev, and Captain Jean-Luc Picard who, along with many others, are implicated in the forced removal of a Federation president." Plus, the Enterprise-E, still in the Odyssean Pass, has encountered a derelict ship---or is it? There's a lot going on in this novel, and we'll be joined by author Dayton Ward to discuss all the details!
