S1 Ep 292The News From TrekNews.net: Week of Sept. 30, 2022
bonusDan and Bill discuss the 35th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the off-again 4th Kelvin Timeline movie, revisiting Deep Space Nine, and the death of Academy Award winning actress Louise Fletcher.

S1 Ep 292David Livingston
This week, Bill and Dan welcome Star Trek royalty to the Trek Geeks Podcast! He's helmed a record 62 episodes of Star Trek across The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise. He's even directed the episode we refer to as "Star Trek's Finest Hour," DS9's "The Visitor," from Season 4. We are thrilled to be joined this week by our very good friend, David Livingston for a discussion about his time on Star Trek, the gift that was "The Visitor," the Hollywood Food Coalition, and meeting David Livingston cosplayers at Trek conventions! We hope you'll join us for an incredibly fun and enlightening discussion!

S1 Ep 29156 Year Mission Recap
This week, Bill & Dan review their first Vegas convention in over three years as they recap the goings on at the 56 Year Mission Convention which took place a couple of weeks ago. What went right, what went wrong, and what was up with that live music at the FanGeeks Party, anyway? They'll talk about it all and how they hope next year's return to the Rio All Suites Hotel brings back some qualities this year's show was apparently lacking. All things considered, we still want to thank Creation Entertainment for the great show they put on. As life gets closer to normal in some ways, it's good to be able to come together with our Trek Family.

S1 Ep 290LIVE FROM VEGAS: Stump the Geek
EFor the first time ever, Bill & Dan had one of their legendary Stump the Geek contests live on the Las Vegas Strip as part of Creation Entertainment's 56 Year Mission Convention at Bally's Hotel and Casino! Ten questions. One massive bonus. Eleven lucky winners---and one panel-crashing Denobulan?! Join the Trek Geeks in Vegas and special surprise guest John Billingsley from Star Trek: Enterprise as they engage in the first-ever Stump the Geek LIVE!

S1 Ep 289The Royale
After more than 3 years, Bill and Dan FINALLY return to the Vegas Star Trek Convention, and to kick off their trip, they're looking at one of TNG's Season 2 episodes! Five years ago, they reviewed TNG's second season in a See It or Skip It episode. Both Bill and Dan gave "The Royale" a big SKIP IT! Now, they look at this casino-themed episode and explain why their views on it have changed! Plus, how would they rate it today? Find out in this week's episode of The Flagship! VIVA LAS VEGAS!

S1 Ep 288Blood Oath
Kor. Koloth. Kang. Three names which would strike fear into even the bravest of Starfleet officers. They were among the finest warriors in the Klingon Empire in the time of Captain James T. Kirk! Eight decades later, the elderly warriors have arrived at Deep Space Nine to fulfill an oath of vengeance. They're seeking their old ally Curzon Dax, and they are surprised to find their friend looks a little different. Will Jadzia be able to help them complete their Blood Oath?

S1 Ep 287Our Top 5
With the Vegas convention on the horizon, we take a look at a topic that you can generally hear in casual conversation--our favorite episodes of Star Trek! Everyone has their own list, and in this episode of The Flagship, you'll hear ours! These are the episodes we each think are the five all-time best episodes of Star Trek, plus a list of honorable mentions. How does our list compare to yours? Let us know!!

S1 Ep 286In Memoriam: Nichelle Nichols
This week, Dan and Bill recall the life, career, and legacy of Nichelle Nichols who passed away at the age of 89 on July 31, 2022.

S1 Ep 285The Tholian Web
Bill and Dan return to The Flagship with a look at a classic episode from the original Star Trek! Season 3 saw Captain Kirk trapped in a different universe after investigating what killed the crew of the U.S.S. Defiant. He can't get back to the Enterprise in time and the crew has precious few chances to get him back in one of Dan's favorite episodes, "The Tholian Web!" We'll look at why this episode is one of Season 3's best, what bothers us about it, and some of the times this episode has been revisited in later Treks. We also announce a return to weekly episodes of The Flagship! HUZZAH!!

S1 Ep 284The News from TrekNews.net: Week of 7/7/2022
bonusThis week, it's the return of The News from TrekNews.net: Prodigy premieres on Nickelodeon, Creation announces no discount tickets this year, even more guests for Vegas, and the Season Finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds!

S1 Ep 284The "Problem" with Discovery
Back in May, Bill wrote an op-ed style piece for TrekNews.net titled, "Star Trek: Discovery Has Problems (& How They Can Be Fixed)," which was a constructive look at the issues many fans feel that Discovery has as far as crisis fatigue. It was an article that caused a lot of discussion and, this week, Bill and Dan return to break down the points the article makes and discuss how this enormously successful show might improve.

S1 Ep 283The Search for Spock
Dan and Bill return to The Flagship this week to discuss the third Star Trek film--the feature film directorial debut of Leonard Nimoy, "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock!" This is a movie that the Trek Geeks have been split on over the years and, in this episode, they'll discuss why. From casting, to script, to memorable scenes and what may just be William Shatner's finest performance in Star Trek, they'll cover it all this week on Trek Geeks!

S1 Ep 282Strange New Worlds
SPOILER ALERT! This week, Bill and Dan look at the debut of the latest live action Star Trek series, "Strange New Worlds!" Normally this is a topic reserved for Discovering Trek, but with all of the acclaim the series has received from fans and critics alike, they couldn't help but talk about it on this installment of The Flagship! In addition to talking about the characters, they'll also discuss highlights from the series' first two episodes, "Strange New Worlds," and "Children of the Comet." If you HAVEN'T watched Star Trek: Strange New Worlds yet, you might want to wait until you do before you dive in on this episode! Plus, news about FanGeeks Party 2022 in Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada that you're not going to want to miss!

S1 Ep 281My Kind of Town?: Mission Chicago Wrap-Up
Thanks to a global pandemic, it's been nearly three years since there has been an Official Star Trek Convention to attend. That all changed a few weeks ago when ReedPOP--the new licensee for Star Trek conventions--held their first event in Chicago, Illinois! Star Trek: Mission Chicago saw fans of all ages return to the convention scene to celebrate the franchise we love, and it wasn't without its issues. Bill and Dan will be joined by Ron Wrobel, host of the brand-new podcast "Con Pod: A Star Trek Conventions Podcast," to talk about the good, the bad, and the disappointing with this first travelling show. They'll be looking at the categories of Schedule, Vendors, Celeb Experience, and Overall Experience and assigning a grade to each. How will they rate the convention? Listen now and find out!

S1 Ep 280Mission Chicago Preview
It's been over two years since there's been an official Star Trek Convention and, this weekend, we gather again to celebrate the franchise we love! Bill and Dan are headed to Star Trek: Mission Chicago and, this week on the Flagship, they look at this new convention experience looks like. From panels to vendors, Bill and Dan break it down. They'll also talk about what they hope to see from their weekend on Chicago's South Side.

S1 Ep 279Newsapalooza
With all the craziness in our lives, it's been a while since we've been able to talk about some of the amazing news we've had in the Star Trek Universe the past couple of months. In this episode, we attempt to rectify that gap in your podcast listening! We'll discuss a bunch of major Trek stories including Kelvin Timeline movies, action figures, casting news, Mission Chicago updates and so much more! Plus, Dan announces the winner of the Farkism contest and reads the best Farkism this podcast has ever had! (Audio Note: Some of Bill's audio in parts of the podcast has quality issues in this episode due to an issue with our recording platform. We apologize that his mellifluous tones aren't as mellifluous as they normally are. Luckily, his face is still glorious. Yes, Bill wrote this.)

S1 Ep 278It's Only a Paper Moon
This week, Bill & Dan look at the standout Season 7 episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, "It's Only a Paper Moon!" Nog returns to DS9 after losing his leg in the events of "The Siege of AR-558" in an effort to continue his recovery. Starfleet has put him on medical leave, but Nog wants nothing to do with the real world. He escapes into the holosuites and the Vic Fontaine program--but will he ever leave? Aron Eisenberg truly shines in this episode, and we'll talk about all the reasons why. Plus, we'll look at Nog's escapism and compare it to how many people--including us--have dealt with the pandemic the last couple of years. This is one you're not gonna want to miss, pally.

S1 Ep 277SyFy Sistas
ELast year at this time, we invited a relatively new podcast called SyFy Sistas to take over the Trek Geeks Podcast for an episode during Black History Month. They wowed us with their passion and they spoke to our hearts with their positivity. Shortly after that they became part of the Trek Geeks family and we celebrate that--and them--today as Bill and Dan welcome Tamia, Yvette, and Subrina to The Flagship to discuss their fandom, how the podcast started, the concept of Afrofuturism, and what they hope to do next! Plus, did you know you could write a Farkism for Dan and possibly win a $50 gift card to FanSets? YUP! It's all in this week's episode!

S1 Ep 276Armin Shimerman
This week, Bill & Dan are honored to welcome a very special guest to the podcast. When Trek Geeks began seven years ago, this person was one of the first we put on our "wish list" of guests--those we really hoped to be able to chat with some day. Armin Shimerman from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine joins The Flagship to discuss his time on Trek, his novels, his involvement with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and why that charity means so much. This is a discussion you won't want to miss! Plus, Dan wants you to write a Farkism for him--be sure to listen for details! PanCAN PURPLE STRIDE! Help Bill & Dan raise money for the PanCAN Purple Stride walk in Los Angeles. If they can raise $2,500.00, they'll fly out to Los Angeles to walk in the event with Kitty Swink! https://trekgeeks.com/pancan READ ARMIN'S NOVELS Check out Armin's novels in the Illyria series from his publisher, Jumpmaster Press! https://www.jumpmasterpress.com/product-page/illyria-series

S1 Ep 275TREK*talks with Jeri Ryan & John Billingsley
EThis week, we bring you the audio from our conversation with Star Trek: Voyager & Star Trek: Picard's Jeri Ryan! Then following that, we have a special TREK*talks follow-up segment with John Billingsley to talk about the telethon and plans for next year! Plus, tell you about everything else that's been going on in the lives of the Trek Geeks as we celebrate our 7th anniversary on this installment of The Flagship! SUPPORT THE HOLLYWOOD FOOD COALITION If you didn't get a chance to check out TREK*talks, you can still watch it on our YouTube channel--and you can also make your tax deductible donation to the Hollywood Food Coalition today at https://donate.trektalks.net!

S1 Ep 274Oasis
Star Trek: Enterprise paved a lot of ground in its first season, creating characters and a history of Starfleet. However, it also dared to bring a regular cast member from another Star Trek series on board as a guest star, playing a character completely unrelated. We all know that the amazing René Auberjonois played Constable Odo for seven seasons on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but many people forget he also played Ezral in the first season Enterprise episode, "Oasis." For the second anniversary of his passing, we'll consider this episode and what René brings to it specifically. Plus, we have a winner of some FanSets pins! We've got one more brand-new episode in 2021 after this, so we hope you'll join us for this episode of The Flagship.

S1 Ep 273The Center Seat
E(This episode has been tagged as explicit for adult language.) You'd think that after 55 years, we'd know just about everything about the making of Star Trek, right? Guess again! This week, we're joined by Brian Volk-Weiss--producer and director of a brand new docu-series airing on the History Channel, "The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek." We'll discuss getting this 10 episode series made and hear some of the stories around its production--some of which haven't been heard very often in the last half century. Plus, we'll hear about some of the items in Brian's collection and how his fandom started--and maybe he'll even give Bill a new reason to watch Star Trek: Generations? Oh, and by the way, there MIGHT be a surprise giveaway this week--be sure to listen for details!

S1 Ep 272Doug Jones
This week, we're joined by one of the most positive and joyful people in the Star Trek Universe! This accomplished actor has been in so many memorable roles and, sometimes, we bet you didn't even know it was him! His ability to act while covered up under layers of latex and makeup make him one of the most talented human beings on the face of the Earth. His character, Saru, on the highly acclaimed and award winning series, "Star Trek: Discovery" was the main focus of an article written by Bill which was published on StarTrek.com called "What I've Learned from Saru," which was also the focus of Trek Geeks #191. We are honored to welcome the incredible Doug Jones to Trek Geeks for a discussion about his career, portraying Saru, and some of the other roles he's had which are among our favorites!

S1 Ep 271Moments Asunder with Dayton Ward
SPOILER ALERT It's the most epic Star Trek novel trilogy of all time! This week, we welcome our old friend, Dayton Ward, author of Star Trek: Coda Book 1: Moments Asunder. Starfleet and the Federation face possibly their gravest threat yet. We'll also discuss this trilogy concluding the novel continuity, and believe us there will be a lot of spoilers, so if you haven't read Moments Asunder yet, you're definitely going to want to! STARFLEET'S FINEST FACES A CHALLENGE UNLIKE ANY OTHER TOMORROW IS DOOMED Time is coming apart. Countless alternate and parallel realities are under attack, weakening and collapsing from relentless onslaught. If left unchecked, the universe faces an unstoppable descent toward entropy. WANDERER, ORACLE, ALLY Scarred and broken after decades spent tracking this escalating temporal disaster, while battling the nameless enemy responsible for it, an old friend seeks assistance from Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Starship Enterprise. The apocalypse may originate from their future, but might the cause lie in their past? EVERYTHING THAT WILL BE Identifying their adversary is but the first step toward defeating them, but early triumphs come with dreadful costs. What will the price be to achieve final victory, and how will that success be measured in futures as yet undefined?

S1 Ep 270John Billingsley
EParents: This episode is tagged as explicit for adult language and situations. There is no "bleeping" in this episode. This week, we're excited to welcome John Billingsley to The Flagship! For four seasons, he portrayed the NX-01's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Phlox and today he stops by to talk a little bit about the 20th Anniversary of Star Trek: Enterprise. In addition, we'll talk to him about an organization he's passionate about: the Hollywood Food Coalition! They've been feeding the homeless in the Los Angeles area for nearly 35 years and the organization has never missed a night. Plus, Dan throws out an idea that is pretty awesome--and something you'll be hearing more about very soon!

S1 Ep 269All Our Yesterdays
The Enterprise arrives at the planet Sarpeidon which is about to be destroyed by a supernova. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy beam down to investigate and are trapped in a planet's distant past--where Kirk is accused of being a witch and Spock finds love (or something) with an exiled woman. We'll discuss why we love this episode despite its obvious quirks and plot holes. Where does Spock think he's going to get seeds? Why doesn't McCoy regress? And what the hell happens to that cart once it goes through the Atavachron portal, anyway? Join Bill & Dan for All Our Yesterdays, this week on The Flagship!

S1 Ep 268Star Trek Day
This week, The Flagship is back! Bill and Dan return after a somewhat unplanned absence to talk about the developments from Star Trek Day! There were lots of announcements, some trailers, and some premiere dates. We'll break it all down and explain why Star Trek Day is now one of our favorite days of the year!

S1 Ep 267THE BEST OF TREK GEEKS: Nana Visitor
bonusOriginally Published: April 10, 2015 This week, Bill is having his wisdom teeth out so, in lieu of a brand new episode, we're sharing one of our favorite early conversations on Trek Geeks! In 2015, we were insanely lucky to have Nana Visitor from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on the podcast to discuss creating the Kira character, women and the Star Trek Universe, how DS9 has held up over time, how a new generation of fans is discovering the series, and even a little Friday the 13th talk! We hope you'll enjoy this Best of Trek Geeks episode--or enjoy it again! We'll be back with new episodes soon!
