Ep 212212: Sports Nutrition with Taryn from Dietitian Approved
We delve into the realm of sports nutrition for children, seeking insights from the knowledgeable Sports Dietitian, Taryn Richardson. The central question we tackle is whether supplements and energy gels are truly necessary for budding athletes. Taryn's expertise sheds light on this topic, emphasizing that, contrary to popular belief, kids don't require sports drinks. Instead, the focus should be on providing them with the essentials: water and fresh, unprocessed foods. By avoiding the marketing traps, parents can make healthier choices, like offering slices of fresh fruits during break times. The core of our discussion revolves around the importance of proper nutrition, highlighting the key roles that proteins and carbohydrates play in a child's athletic journey. Taryn underlines that these nutrients are the building blocks for recovery and fuel, emphasizing the significance of incorporating them into a child's diet. Furthermore, she highlights the importance of timing, drawing parallels to preparing for a significant event. Just as expecting mothers prioritize their health during pregnancy, young athletes should similarly prepare their bodies to perform at their best. A crucial piece of advice that emerges from our conversation is the importance of seeking guidance from professionals. While a gym trainer might excel in workouts, when it comes to nutrition, a sports dietitian's expertise is indispensable. Taryn stresses that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition, making the expertise of a sports dietitian invaluable, particularly when undertaking significant endeavors like a three-day hike. In conclusion, this episode highlights the significance of prioritizing natural, nutrient-rich foods over synthetic supplements to support your child's growth and athletic achievements. Ep 188188: Effective Natural Remedies for Muscle Pain and Injuries
A few weeks ago, I was walking my dog and had only gotten a short distance from home when I twisted my ankle. Don’t ask me how I did it, because I have no clue – let’s just chalk it up to one of life’s great mysteries! Haha At the time of recording this podcast episode I was about 3 weeks post ankle injury and it’s still a bit sore, bruised and a little swollen. Safe to say I did a good job of it! I used all the weapons in my natural remedy arsenal to support my ankle injury. I go through all the things I used, including recipes, supplements and more over in our show notes which you can find HERE. Ep 187187: Jo's Gut Health Journey
The road to getting my gut health on track has been a long one, not going to lie! And the reality is I think it will be a lifelong commitment for me to maintain good gut integrity and to be honest, sometimes I fall off the wagon of doing the things I should, to support my gut, and then I have to get back on that wagon and correct it. What initially started this journey for me was learning all that I had through running our business here at Additive-Free Lifestyle. Over the years we have spoken to many gut health experts which got me thinking about my own gut health and gave me the insight to recognise that something wasn’t great with my own gut microbiome. Yes, even me who lives additive-free and has a low-tox environment and does all the things to support my body to stay healthy can still suffer with gut issues. For the full show notes of this episode including: What my symptoms were What was the catalyst for doing something about my gut health Who I saw to help me Why optimal gut health is so important And more Check out our full show notes at: Podcast Episode 187 If you have found some benefit from this podcast episode we would love it if you could give us a review in your preferred podcast app – as this will help get our podcast show out to as many people as possible and spread the word about living an additive-free lifestyle. Ep 186186: Avoiding Aluminium: Protecting Our Health in a Toxic World
When I was in the midst of creating our app I was researching the additive, Aluminium (173) and let’s just say I was blown away! I knew as an additive it wasn’t great because I used to see it plastered all over baking powder containers in health food stores stating that they were ‘aluminium free’, and I knew that aluminium in deodorants wasn’t great either, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be as bad as my research found. I’ve read so many studies on this additive and let me just say that in my humble opinion it should be banned as an additive and should NEVER be allowed to go in our body or on our body! For the full show notes of this episode including: Where you'll find aluminium How it can affect you What to be careful of How to avoid it And more Check out our full show notes at: Podcast Episode 186 If you have found some benefit from this podcast episode we would love it if you could give us a review in your preferred podcast app – as this will help get our podcast show out to as many people as possible and spread the word about living an additive-free lifestyle.
