S1 Ep 908#908 When The World Is Your Office - Dr. Richard Chambers

Researcher, Author, Psychologist, Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher, Psychedelic Adventurer and all-round Good Bloke, Dr. Richard Chambers, is back at TYP and this time we chat about his upcoming trip to ‘Burning Man’ (Google it, if you’re unfamiliar), the pros and cons of the ego, the limitation of words (people using the same word but talking about different things), his wild days of raves, drugs and mayhem, self-actualisation, lifestyle medicine, having no agenda (is it possible?) and the idea of having a mobile, global office (he calls it his laptop lifestyle). Last time the Doc and I spoke (not long ago) he was in Sweden, this time Italy, in between, he’s been working in Portugal and next week he’s off to spend nine days in the Nevada dessert for a little spiritual and psychedelic odyssey. It’s tough for some. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 907#907 An Orangutan Stole My Undies - Natalie Kyriacou OAM

For someone who’s done a lot of amazing stuff from a really young age, Nat is grounded, humble, very self-aware and surprisingly, not totally exhausted! This was a high-energy, interesting and funny chat with a brilliant young woman, who has infections enthusiasm and passion. BIO: Natalie Kyriacou OAM is the Founder and CEO of My Green World, the Creator of World of the Wild mobile game app, and a Management Consultant at PwC. For over ten years, Natalie has been driving positive change worldwide; her approach has been to inspire curiosity. As CEO of My Green World, Natalie created inclusive youth education programs and technologies to increase access to wildlife and environmental conservation and sciences. In addition to this, Natalie is a Board Advisor at the Women Leaders Institute. For her work in the environmental space, Natalie has received the Medal of the Order of Australia, a Forbes 30 Under 30 honour, a Finalist for the UNEP Young Champion of the Earth Prize, and a Probono Impact 25 Award Recipient. S1 Ep 906#906 Baby Brain - Dr. Sasha Davies

Is ‘Baby Brain’ a thing? According to Dr. Sasha Davies, the quick answer is.. yep. That is, being pregnant can have an impact on cognitive function (memory, processing speed, decision-making). I found this conversation wildly interesting (but I am obsessed with the mind) and the good Doc’s research and findings will resonate with a lot of people. BIO: Dr. Sasha Davies is a Lecturer in the Graduate Diploma of Psychology Sciences and Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling programs at the Cairnmillar Institute. Sasha’s PhD research applied a mixed-method approach using both psychophysiological and behavioural cognitive approaches to investigate if and when pregnancy causes subtle changes in the neural indices of women's executive functioning. S1 Ep 905#905 Dying Cameras & Resurrected Tigers - Patrick Bonello & Tor Roxburgh

Patrick and Tor are back and this time we chat about the happiness-money correlation, needing stuff vs. wanting stuff, how we waste money on subscriptions (and how not to), the results of Patrick’s road test on his cheap ($39.95) ‘smart watch’ (spoiler alert.. I was very surprised), the de-extinction of animals (Tasmanian Tiger anyone?), poverty in Australia (how the poverty line is determined), banning phones in schools, the death of point-and-shoot cameras and lots more. S1 Ep 904#904 Self-Help Cliches & Other Stupid Sh*t - Bobby Cappuccio

TYP favourite Bobby is back sharing his considerable brain with us and this time we chat about self-help clichés, the theory vs. reality of changing a habit, grown-ups seeking attention and approval, when support (from others) becomes a dependency (a new problem), the attraction (and commercial potential) of quick-fixes and reward-without-work products, self-awareness and self-management, the challenge (as a speaker and coach) of sharing the popular (feel good) message vs. the uncomfortable truth, the phases of change and stupid (but widely used) generalisations about complicated, multi-dimensional (human) issues. S1 Ep 903#903 Life After Professional Sport - Brenton Sanderson

Brenton Sanderson spent almost three decades as a professional athlete and coach. Now, he’s neither. He played AFL footy for Adelaide, Collingwood and Geelong (209 games), won a B & F with Geelong, was an assistant coach at Port Adelaide, Geelong and Collingwood, was the senior coach of the Adelaide Football Club (2012 – 2014), won the NAB Cup in 2012 and was sacked with the second highest winning percentage of all Adelaide Coaches. This was a great chat with Sando and we covered everything from footy, business, coaching, tough crowds (as a speaker) and life beyond sport (for athletes and coaches) to mental health, mindset, blokes being vulnerable, the changing culture of footy, asking for help, his personal battles when he was sacked from the Crows, his current gig and lots more. S1 Ep 902#902 Listener Q & A - Harps (PT3)

In instalment three of our listener Q and A extravaganza, I explore the way that individual perception shapes personality reality, the possibility of global peace (okay, there were some deep questions), whether any guest (on TYP) has changed my mind about something, the space between ‘you’ and your conditioning, how to optimise the remainder of 2022, the idea of ‘life purpose’, how I decide which ideas to put into action, the ideas (projects, endeavours) I’ve had that didn’t work, getting past our own BS, good and bad foods, self-sabotage and the idea of ‘getting people to listen’. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 901#901 Doing The Work - Dr. Lillian Nejad

Dr. Lillian is back at TYP and this time we chat about procrastination, my teenage obsession with music, excuses vs. reasons, Psychologists with issues (they’re only human), creating long-term change (most people don’t), the convenience mindset, feeling guilty, types of exhaustion, work ethic and lots more. S1 Ep 900#900 FREESCHOOL.ORG.AU - David Gillespie

This episode is primarily about sleep but I chose this title to plug the amazing resource that David (and lots of volunteers) have created to help Australian students successfully navigate their secondary school journey. It’s brilliant and totally free. Okay, on with the show… In this episode of TYP, we chat about why we need to sleep (it’s probably not what you think), powernaps (do they work?), melatonin, how lack of sleep makes you stupid (reduces cognitive function), teenagers and sleep, being unconscious for a third of our lives (seems dangerous), shift workers, the relationship between addiction, anxiety, depression and sleep, jet lag and dodgy butchers who soak meat to make it weigh more (yes, super random - lol). S1 Ep 899#899 There's No F*cking Wagon - Dr. Libby Weaver

Dr. Libby Weaver (PhD.) is a Nutritional Biochemist, thirteen-times bestselling Author, Speaker and Founder of the food-based supplement range, Bio Blends. She’s also fun to chat with and in this episode, we spoke about her chickens that behave like dogs, food boundaries, conscious eating, the metaphoric wagon (the one people allegedly fall off), food information vs. food marketing, calorie requirement variability, RDI’s, biofeedback, how we unintentionally put ourselves in a fat-storing state, the rise of allergies (nut anyone?) and lots more. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 898#898 Dr. Bums - Dr. Lauren Burns

The reason for the title of this episode unfolds during our chat but rest assured, it’s not a conversation about bums. Or bum issues. Thankfully. So, the Olympic Gold Medallist, PhD. Researcher, Academic, Author, part-time Urban Ninja, Mum of two, Wife of one and Corporate Speaker, is back. This time Lauren and I chat about the way she approaches everything from parenting, study, lifestyle and business, to training (at 48), competition, finding balance, intuition, obsession, knowing who to trust and broadly speaking, all-things self-management. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 897#897 Listener Q & A - Harps (PT2)

In instalment two of our listener Q and A extravaganza, I chat about internal voices, the psychology and science of ageing, staying focused and productive when we’re not ‘feeling it’, my thoughts on ‘fitting in’ to a group, the likelihood of Tiff coaxing me into a Zuu workout, my (brief) thoughts on the current reality of health care (from an industry, societal and individual perspective), the pros and cons of competition, the six famous people I’d have at my dinner table, life ‘getting in the way’ (does it?) and idea of identifying our values and whether or not they change over time. And it goes without saying (yet hear I am saying it – lol) that these episodes are not intended to be personal advice or any kind of prescription but rather, me thinking out loud about some interesting questions. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 896#896 Ask Harps - Harps (PT1)

Well, my simple idea to do a listener Q and A episode turned into an avalanche of questions and a three-part poddy. So, in part one I explore the following questions… *What’s the best advice you’ve been given? *How to stay motivated and on track when you have adult adhd? *What legacy do you want to leave? *Your favourite books that have had a profound impact (non-fiction/non-fiction)? *What is the biggest change you might anticipate in your life after you achieve your PhD? *Generally (in your extensive experience), what is a person’s first domino (a behaviour alteration that leads to change)? Of course, I digress and wander off the conversational path but mostly, I stay on topic. Enjoy (Parts 2 & 3 to follow). See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 895#895 Jonnie One-Ball - Jon Summers

And before you ask, not only did I have Jon’s consent to go with that title but he used the term in our conversation. He threw himself under the one-nut bus. Classic. Jon Summers is leading the charge when it comes to opening up the conversation around infertility for men. Just like women, men can experience a fertility diagnosis. And just like women, that diagnosis brings it uncertainty, fear, guilt and all sorts of emotional turbulence. Gonna be honest, this topic isn’t really my area of expertise (at all) and it’s fair to say that Jon had his work cut out getting me up to speed. I loved his laid-back, self-aware, no-ego communication style and his ability to make this a fun and fascinating chat. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 894#894 Don't F*** It Up - Mark LeBusque

I was recently on the ‘Simply Practically Human’ podcast with Mark LeBusque and as is often the way, we opened the door on the never ending ‘how do I manage me and not f*ck up my life?” question. S1 Ep 893#893 My Mate, Dicko - Pete Dickson

Rob Dickson was my mate. But then, he was a mate to a lot of people. Everyone loved him. At school (and beyond), he had an ability to make me feel valued, special and connected - to him. But in truth, I wasn’t special, he was, because he made everyone feel the same. It was a gift. He was a gift. He had an undeniable energy that people wanted to be around. He was simultaneously charismatic, creative, cheeky, annoying, hilarious and undeniable. He got away with sh*t that I still can’t comprehend. After school, he went on to become a helicopter pilot (at the age of 17) working for the NSCA, an AFL player (Hawthorn and Brisbane), the winner of ‘Survivor Australia’ season 1, an incredible film maker (with his brother, Pete) and most importantly, a loving husband and dad. Tragically, Rob and his two boys passed away in 2009 as the result of a car accident, leaving his beautiful wife Dusty without her husband or children (a pain I can’t even begin to comprehend). I know it seems like this chat with Pete Dickson might be super-sad but it’s not. It’s thoughtful, uplifting, insightful, funny and at times, emotional. It’s not always easy talking about death, trauma and grief but these conversations also present an opportunity to talk about healing, vulnerability, communication and love. Enjoy. *Pete’s book about Rob, ‘He Was My Brother’, is out now via his website (public launch soon). dicksonfilms.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 892#892 Burnout - Dr. Amanda Ferguson

So, I made a new friend. Dr. Amanda Ferguson and I hit it off from the get-go and had a fun conversation, discussing burnout (from work, roles, situations, life), jobs having a use-by date, the flawed ‘work-life balance’ theory, the importance of unlearning, sharing complicated information in an uncomplicated manner (as a teacher, writer, speaker, coach), the benefit of getting ‘out of our mind’ and all-things self-management. On a lighter note, we also spoke about the career she almost had as an opera singer (for real), her floating meditation centre (yacht) and my complete ineptitude as a sailor. Enjoy. S1 Ep 891#891 The First Personal Training Client - Max Peggie

More than thirty-five years ago, Max Peggie walked into the gym I was managing, we chatted and about ten minutes later, I had my first Personal Training client before PT was even a thing; no course, no regulations, no industry. To be honest, I didn’t even have an official name for what I was doing; I was just training him three times a week and he was paying me three-times my hourly (gym instructing) rate. Giddy-up, I was rich. For me. Little did I know what would come from that conversation; the infancy of an industry, twenty-five years of owning studios, educating thousands of trainers (and employing hundreds), personally completing more than forty thousand PT sessions, speaking all over the world, radio, TV, working with elite athletes and lots more. Without Max, my story may have been very different. He was an important influence, mentor and support system in my journey and growth and all these years later, we got together to talk about the lessons and laughs, the student and teacher (he taught me business, I taught him body) and of course, the mutual sh*t-slinging. Enjoy. *Note: Max’s first book (out now) is called ‘I Didn’t Ask to be King’. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 890#890 Not A Real Job - Harps & Patrick

Patrick is back and this time we ditch the tech talk and open the door on being single without being lonely, careers and relationships that have a use-by date, where and how we invest our emotional energy, why I would have made a crap soldier (probably), Melissa’s capacity for catastrophising (I was four minutes late for the recording and she thought I’d had a heart-attack), Patrick’s cold shower update, being a billionaire and lots more. genesisfx.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 889#889 Working Differently - Karen Eber

Karen Eber is the CEO and Chief Storyteller of Eber Leadership Group. She helps build curious and empathic leaders and teams, and healthy cultures. Karen and I are on the same page in that, we both work with businesses without really talking about business. We talk about the people stuff in the middle of the business stuff (systems, processes, KPI’s, rules, roles). In this episode, we spoke about culture, communication, unnecessarily long (and boring) meetings, self-indulgent bosses (over-talkers), unaware leaders, the value of story-telling in the workplace, keeping staff happy and how to create a work environment that people want to be in. S1 Ep 888#888 Good Addictions? - David Gillespie

TYP fave David Gillespie is back and this time we chat about a very common drug (you probably use it) that reduces empathy (really!), Melissa’s OCD, good addictions (are they a thing?), David’s real motivation for coming on the show (it’s not me) and once again, we open the psychopath door. So to speak. Enjoy. davidgillespie.orgSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 887#887 Life After War - Heston Russell

Heston Russell is a Retired Special Forces Major, who after 16 years in the military and over 100 combat missions serving within the Special Forces, found his way to TYP Central for a chat and it (the conversation) was a revelation, inspiration and in some ways, not what I expected at all. I thought it would be good but it was brilliant. He was brilliant. We chatted about the mindset, morality and ethics around killing people when it’s part of your job (weird, I know), performing under the ultimate pressure (someone shooting at you), returning to ‘normal life’ after combat and some fascinating stuff that I don’t want to share in this overview because it will ruin the listening moment. S1 Ep 886#886 The Insecurity Epidemic - Jaemin Frazer

Jaemin Frazer is the founder of The Insecurity Project and specialises in helping entrepreneurs, leaders, and business owners eradicate insecurity so they can show up to life unhindered by doubt, fear, and self-limiting beliefs. He is a leading voice globally on the subject of personal insecurity and is the author of Unhindered - The Seven Essential Practices for Overcoming Insecurity, Elegantly Simple Solutions to Complex People Problems. Jaemin and I spoke about why and how we’re so insecure (and what we might do about it), finding our identity in our job (good or bad?), seeking approval from people who don’t love us, when a ‘group’ becomes a cult, blokes becoming more vulnerable, backlash from leaving the ministry (he was an ordained Minister), being self-sufficient and we even disagreed on a few things (graciously of course - lol). Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 885#885 "I Literally Died" - Tommy & Harps

Tommy slid by TYP Central and we chatted about having ‘relationships’ with people we’ve never met (like podcast hosts), how friendships change as we age, blokes being increasingly vulnerable, rejection therapy (it’s a thing), confidence vs. cockiness, Tommy trying to give away free money to strangers, the misuse of the word ‘literally’, procrastination, the horrible sound of our own voice and lots more. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 884#884 Bullying - Evelyn Field, OAM

This was an interesting chat with someone (Evelyn) who has been working in and around bullying for decades. Bullies exist in all walks of life, can be a problem for anyone of any age and research suggests that the numbers (of bullies) are not dropping. Evelyn M Field, OAM is a psychologist, professional speaker, bestselling author and regular media commentator. She has spent over forty years helping students and adults develop social survival skills and manage school and workplace bullying. Her passion was recognised in the Australian Queens Birthday Honours, June 2014, “For service to the community, particularly though anti-school and workplace bullying initiatives.” Enjoy. S1 Ep 883#883 Creating Forever Results - Harps & Tiff

For this episode, young Tiff and I riff about the ever-present challenge of creating forever results. Changing stuff and keeping it changed. Creating a new normal. A new standard operating system, that aligns with our goals and values. We share some thoughts and strategies and about escaping the on-again, off-again, start-stop merry-go-round-of-madness that so many of us have ridden for decades. Enjoy. Patrick is back at TYP and this time we chat about making a ‘tree change’ (moving to the country), robotic spiders (really), becoming a vegetarian, the Canadian town being extorted by a global ransomware gang, UFO’s (are they real), life on other planets, space junk falling to earth, the chess robot that broke a kid’s finger (ouch), how to dispose of your old computer and lots more. S1 Ep 880#880 Your Internal Sat-Nav - Harps & Tiff

You know the stuff you know without knowing how or why you know it? The stuff you’ve never been taught or told but somehow know? Some people consider this kind of ‘knowing’ a type of instinct or intuition. Some think it comes from a place more divine or spiritual. I think it’s a gift. I call it my internal Sat-Nav. It’s the life guidance system that I can’t explain but nonetheless, use daily. Whatever it is, wherever it comes from, it’s served me well over the years. I believe we all have access to a type of intelligence (knowing, insight, awareness) that doesn’t always ‘make sense’ and can’t always be explained. I was recently of Tiff’s show (Roll with the Punches) and we chatted about all this and more. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 879#879 Just Be Nice - Josh Reid Jones

Josh Reid Jones is the real deal. And I loved our chat. His life is devoted to helping the people who most need help in a practical, loving and life-changing way. From a childhood marked by poverty, violence, and challenging circumstances to a purpose-led life, founding the Just Be Nice project with the aim of changing the way that people help people; until they are housed, employed and have positive mental health outcomes. Josh has been relentless in his pursuit of creating an environment that ensures people in need, get the help that they need, when they need it, for as long as they need it. This was a thought-provoking conversation and Josh definitely enlightened me about a few things I hadn’t considered. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 878#878 Just Saving The Earth - Barney Swan

Apart from reducing environmental impact, aligning with sustainable development practices, educating the masses, bridging outdoor stewardship and conscious business practices, driving his tractor in one hundred percent humidity and generally ‘just saving the Earth’, Barney Swan doesn’t have much on. This was an illuminating chat with a young man who couldn’t be more passionate or committed to his life purpose. Oh, and he’s also funny, a little bit angry and tells a great story about (potentially) losing his er… ahem… ‘manhood’ while skiing a 1,000 kilometres to the South Pole. S1 Ep 877#877 BTW, I’m Gay - Patrick Bonello & Tor Roxburgh

The first half of this chat with Tor and Patrick has nothing to do with life-improving tech but nonetheless, it was super interesting. And unplanned. We learned about (younger) Tor being chased by the police while sitting on the front of her dad’s Mercedes holding a shotgun, Patrick ‘coming out’ on national TV (his identical twin brother, who was also on the show didn’t know) and I disclose a ‘Mary story’ that will probably get me trouble with the Old Darl. Oh well, (shoulder shrug). On a tech note, we talk about the father who warns his sons about their mum’s bad moods via text-alerts, a 'sand battery' that can store heat at 500C for months, TikTok stealing your cyber-stuff, personalised action figure dolls (with your face), the first company to implant a human brain-computer interface (WTF!), forty-dollar fitness trackers and new features on Android and Apple devices that can transcribe words in real-time (during a phone call), meaning that hearing impaired people can read (instead of listen to) the words of the person on the other end of the phone! S1 Ep 876#876 The Cataclsymic Sh*tstorm - Geoff Jowett

I didn’t realise how much I missed Geoffro until we reconnected. He is simultaneously grounded, hilarious, inappropriate, wise, laid back and (ironically) full on and this chat was awesome. The guy who, not-too-long-ago was up to his eyeballs in business deals, grinding and hustling, making money, TV appearances, booze, drugs, mayhem, madness and self-destruction, is now the guy living totally sober in the middle of nature with his two horses and four dogs, no television, limited hours of technology, minimal face-to-face human interaction, a crazy long beard and zero external ‘noise’. He has truly unplugged from the madness and reinvented himself from a soul level, up. If you told me eight years ago that the Geoff I knew then, would be living his current existence, I absolutely would not have believed you. We’re always talking (on TYP) about growth, evolution, transformation, self-awareness, living our values and choosing our path.. well, take a listen to this. @geoffjowettSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 875#875 Psychopathic Toddlers - David Gillespie

According to David Gillespie, technically all toddlers are psychopaths. So, keep clear of sandpits, swings and slides, I guess. Once again, this was an illuminating and fascinating conversation with one of Australia’s most successful authors. We spoke about ‘resetting’ our brain, how to find credible research, the value (or not) of returning to formal study, the relationship between biochemistry and behaviour, David’s underwhelming opinion of psychology (as a field), why stress is like addiction (biochemically) and how he comes up with ideas for his books. S1 Ep 874#874 Who Succeeds? - Axle Whitehead

Last time Axle Whitehead was on, we had so much fun that he and I caught up a few days later for coffee and conversation about all-things psychology, philosophy, spirituality and human behaviour. You know; the small stuff. Well, we went deep and thought we would continue a version of that chat at TYP Central. Here’s what we covered in this episode.. the ‘common denominators’ of successful people, the good and bad of religion, Aussies and their bullshit filter, being in a cult, the challenge of not ‘over-protecting’ kids (so they can build resilience, independence and capability), evolutionary instinct, the value of delaying gratification, tuning in to our Internal Sat-Nav and lots more. S1 Ep 873#873 An Elite Mindset - Genevieve Gregson

Genevieve Gregson is a three-time Olympian, two-time Olympic finalist, Australian record holder, one-time farm kid, Mum of one who’s married to a two-Olympian (Ryan Gregson). She specialises in the 3,000-metre steeplechase, is thinking about moving up to marathons and in our chat, admitted she’d like to compete up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, which could potentially make her a six-time Olympian. Oh, she’s also a Coach, Business Woman and Exercise Physiologist. Genevieve is a great communicator and we covered everything from training, recovery, nutrition, mindset, work ethic and discipline to ageing, biofeedback, financing an athletics career and why giving birth is performance enhancing. S1 Ep 872#872 Life And Death - Nathan Bolton

“You never feel more alive than when someone is trying to kill you.” It sounds strange but, according to Australian Soldier Nathan Bolton, deploying to Afghanistan (twice) and being in combat was simultaneously the best and worst time of his life. This chat was an interesting insight into the mind of a Special Forces Operator who, like many, struggled to leave the war behind when he came home. S1 Ep 868#868 Food as Medicine - Kate Save

Dietician, Exercise Physiologist, Educator and Entrepreneur, Kate Save is back, and while we’ve had a few chats on TYP, this episode is my favourite. I could give you a long list of what we covered (there was plenty) but for me, the awesome-ness was in Kate sharing her deeply personal story about her own significant health challenges (the ones that almost killed her). S1 Ep 867#867 The Idea of Value - Patrick Bonello & Tor Roxburgh

So, a bloke spent his life savings buying some pretend land in the metaverse. If he’s happy with his ‘investment’, does that mean he got a good deal? Maybe my idea of ‘crazy’ is his idea of prudent market speculation. And down the track we might discover that he was the smart one, when another investor buys it from him for double! But what is value anyway? Is it about the objective ‘thing’ or is it about our subjective assessment of what we think that thing is worth? And could floating cities be one of the answers to rising sea levels (it’s happening)? And what about the Webb telescope that can see back in time (that idea does my head in)? And what new health gizmos and gadgets are coming into the market to make our ‘personal health management’ more effective and efficient? And what’s happening at the intersection of biology, technology and medicine? For better or worse, we’re increasingly moving towards replacing biological bits with non-biological bits; is it all positive or are there some potential dangers? It’s a busy show! S1 Ep 866#866 How To Be In Demand - Harps

When I started my first business (Harper’s Personal Training), I had no management skills, little understanding of business, no marketing strategy, no idea how to talk to an accountant, lawyer or real-estate agent, no administrative skills, no idea how to employ (or fire) someone and an underwhelming collection of skills, resources, knowledge and confidence. In fact, I was so inept, I often didn’t even know what questions to ask. Nonetheless, I (and my team) figured it out. In 25 years of owning multiple centres, I employed hundreds of PT’s, we trained thousands of people, pioneered PT in Australia (first ever PT facility) and we did all of it, without being super educated, gifted or special and without spending one cent on marketing or advertising.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 865#865 From Hollywood To The Orphanage - John Marshall

This is a conversation about a middle-age guy who left a super successful career in the TV business and ended up living at an Indian Orphanage. John Marshall is a storyteller, a Hollywood screenwriter, a 9-time Emmy award-winning TV producer/writer and author of the Random House memoir ‘Wide-Open World.’ So how and why does someone leave the highly addictive and lucrative entertainment world to become an advocate for orphaned girls’ education? Take a listen and find out. Enjoy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 863#863 Mindfulness - Dr. Richard Chambers

Dr. Richard Chambers is a clinical psychologist, an internationally-recognised expert in mindfulness, a spiritual seeker, a researcher, an author and a bloke who runs psychedelic-assisted leadership programs (yep, that’s a thing). I’m constantly grateful for the amazing people I get to meet on this show and Richard was (is) totally brilliant. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 861#861 Robotic Dogs & Motorola Bricks - Patrick Bonello

If you’re after a typical ‘be-all-you-can-be’ (self-help type of) TYP experience, this might not be the episode for you. Nonetheless, it’s full of interesting information, thoughts and ideas that may even be useful to you. Or not. Among other things, Patrick and I speak about the evolution of the good ol’ TV, using public Wi-Fi (yes or no?), augmented reality, the re-emergence of 3D films, the potential use of holograms, the dropping price of (some) tech, robotic dogs (Patrick wants five), VR for healing and why young dudes have been banned from wearing suits to the cinema. S1 Ep 860#860 The Bloke Who Got Shot 14 Times - Derrick McManus

Derrick McManus was a South Australian Police officer operating in the elite Special Tasks And Rescue (STAR) Group. He held specialist skills as a sniper, diver and was trained by the military elite Special Air Services Regiment (SAS) in counter-terrorist tactics and worked in a physically, mentally and emotionally demanding environment. Derrick’s team had been tasked to arrest a high-risk offender, who was obviously not very keen on being arrested. He fired 18 times in less than 5 seconds and hit Derrick 14 times. Derrick was then lying on the ground bleeding for 3 hours prior to his rescue. How he didn’t die is still a mystery. To say this is a fascinating listen is an understatement. Enjoy. S1 Ep 859#859 Teen Brain - David Gillespie

One of David Gillespie’s (many) books is called ‘Teen Brain’ (2019). This episode is a conversation about the challenges that come with living in a teenage body that’s riding a rollercoaster of biochemical urges, emotions and changes. *Book Synopsis: With their labile and rapidly developing brains, adolescents are particularly susceptible to addiction, and addiction leads to anxiety and depression. What few parents will know is that what we think of as the most typical addictions and problematic teen behaviours - smoking, drinking, drug taking, sex leading to teenage pregnancy - are on the decline. The bad news is that a whole raft of addictions has taken their place. Whereas once the dopamine-hungry brain of a teenager got its fix from smoking a joint or sculling a Bundy and coke, it is now turning to electronic devices for the pleasure jolt that typically comes from online playing games and engaging with social media. What is doubly troubling is that, unlike drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, electronic devices are not illicit. Quite the contrary. They are liberally distributed by schools and parents, with few restrictions placed on their use. And, to add fuel to the fire, emerging research shows that if addictive pathways are activated during the teen years, they are there for life, and that what starts as a screen addiction can lead to major substance abuse later in life. davidgillespie.orgSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
