S1 Ep 1336#1336 WTF Is Grey Area Drinking? - Sarah Rusbatch
So, not a teetotaller and not an alcoholic but you still have a propensity to do dumb things with booze and wake up regularly feeling like complete shite? Well, you might just be a grey area drinker. Yep, it's a real thing. Sarah Rusbatch is a Grey Area Drinking Coach, Author and Key-Note speaker sharing her journey to sobriety and the impact of alcohol on mental health to global audiences. She is the face behind Perth's growing Alcohol-Free Movement, a brilliant communicator and a great storyteller. Even as a life-long non-drinker, I found this chat fascinating and insightful. S1 Ep 1335#1335 What's Not Working (For You)? - Harps
We Earthlings have a propensity to do things that don’t work and for some reason, keep doing them; with our lifestyle, finances, health, relationships, personal habits, diet, social behaviour and more. And despite the overwhelming evidence that our current operating system is broken, we often stay in a pattern of thinking, choosing and doing that keeps us trapped in a prison of our own making. If that sounds like you, tune in.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1334#1334 One Day At The Airport.. - Mike Elrington
Mike Elrington is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who recently introduced himself to me at the airport, informing me he was a listener (of TYP) and a fan. And now, after meeting him and hearing his music, I'm also a listener and a fan (of him and his music). I honestly believe Mike is an undiscovered musical gift to the world. He writes, sings and plays from the heart and is wildly talented. Chatting with him, I suspected there was an interesting back-story, a few life lessons, some laughter and tears and selfishly, a good podcast to be recorded. I was right and this is it. Enjoy. mikeelrington.com@mikeelringtonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1333#1333 It Started So Well... - Patrick Bonello
There was a moment in this episode when the entire conversation came to an abrupt standstill because Patrick revealed something the world didn't need to know. I was literally left to fill dead air because he and Tiff lost their collective shit and left me hanging. Nonetheless, we didn't edit it out and it's definitely one of the funnier moments in TYP history. If you want to see the actual video footage, you can find it on my Insta. Apart from that shenanigans, we spoke about why EV's (electric vehicles) may not be the saviour we imagined, the potential therapeutic benefits for kids with ADHD using old-school typewriters, diesel generators powering electric charging stations in the outback (not even joking), a new fibre that can optionally cool or heat the wearer, a new treatment for hoarders, dating apps and ghosting, self-flying air-taxis (zero chance I'm getting in that), the one time Patrick kissed a girl and lots more. genesisfx.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1332#1332 Dear Food, We Need To Talk - Matty Lansdown
Food and I have always had an interesting relationship. And by interesting, I mean anything ranging from healthy to destructive. In this very-relevant (for many) conversation, Nutritionist Matty Lansdown and I discuss the myriad of psychological, emotional, physical and practical challenges of navigating life with anything ranging from disordered eating, all the way through to a life-threatening eating disorder.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1331#1331 Should We Protect Our Kids From Discomfort? - Harps & Tiff
The other night on the news, there was a story about banning the 'beep test' from schools because it made (some) kids nervous and uncomfortable. Fear of physical discomfort. And comparison. And embarrassment. And anxiety. And while I (kind-of) get it, I also thought about how all those things (discomfort, embarrassment, comparison, fear, anxiety) also exist in the spheres of academic performance, exams, social media, sporting performance, school friendships, social groups and lots more. And for grown-ups (us ex-children), these things are an unavoidable pert of the human experience. If we constantly shield our kids from discomfort in all its forms, are we protecting them or taking away an opportunity to develop resilience, understanding, confidence and personal power? Of course, "it depends" is the right answer and yes, there are a myriad of variables but nonetheless, it’s worth considering. As an ex-fat (obese) kid, I truly understand the aversion to beep tests but at the same time, I think we need to find a way to help prepare our kids for a reality beyond childhood, where mum and dad aren't there to constantly make things comfortable, convenient and safe; a practical reality where life doesn't care about an individual's feelings, fear, discomfort, embarrassment, anxiety or results. It's not an easy fix (of course) but it's probably worth a chat.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1330#1330 Surrounded By Idiots - Thomas Erikson
Thomas Erikson is a speaker, educator, expert in human behaviour and one of the biggest selling Swedish authors of all time. While he has written six books, his biggest seller (Surrounded by Idiots) has sold somewhere in the ballpark of 8-10 million copies (he's not sure), been translated into almost sixty languages and sold in over 100 countries. This was a fun chat and I think you'll enjoy it. *Thomas's new book is called 'Surrounded by Energy Vampires: How to Slay the Time, Joy, and Soul Suckers in Your Life.' surroundedbyidiots.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1329#1329 Meet Our New Intern - Maddie Bond
21 year-old Maddie (Maddison) has arrived at TYP Central to bring down the average age of the team. Understandably, this is her first ever chat on a podcast and let's just say that her debut on a mic was a significant improvement on mine. Among other things, we talk about her role at TYP, lessons learned from following me around to speaking gigs, working alongside a dinosaur, training her 183 cm body for its first marathon (ex-basketballer), the pressure on young people to look a certain way, growing up without a father (her dad Ashley passed away when she was one), growing up in the country (where she still lives), working out without becoming obsessed and lots more. S1 Ep 1326#1326 Reading The Room - Harps & Tiff
If you want to create better interactions, and interpersonal outcomes with others (friends, family, strangers), I think you will enjoy this chat. How do we create meaningful connection with an audience of 1 or a 100? How do we share our thoughts, ideas and messages in a way which resonates with the person or persons with whom we're trying to connect? What does 'reading the room' mean? What is a 'warm audience'? And a cold one? Can we 'warm up' a cold audience? In this episode, Tiff and I discuss the myriad of variables that influence the quality (and outcomes) of our communication experiences. We also talk about the propensity we humans have to hate being wrong. Especially when our identity is intertwined with a certain idea, belief or practice. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1325#1325 What If Addiction Is The Goal? - David Gillespie
Are some organisations strategically trying to create addictive products, knowing that the consumer’s pain is their commercial gain? That's a rhetorical question; of course they are. Old Gillespo never disappoints and this time, he definitely delivered. Among other things, we had a fascinating conversation about how a nasal decongestant in the 1930's (which was essentially speed) became an amazingly effective treatment, for what would later (in history) be known as ADHD, and why giving over-stimulated and badly-behaved kids a stimulant somehow made them calm, focused and significantly better students, almost instantly. We also chatted about the modern-day equivalents and how they are derailing, not only our kids but also, our grown-ups too. Oh, and did I mention that some corporations are making a shit-ton of money? Enjoy. davidgillespie.orgSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1324#1324 What Is Happiness? - Dr. Tim Sharp
This was a fun, relevant and timely conversation about something we all want. But WTF is happiness? Is it the same thing for different people? Is it a smart goal? Or is it the byproduct of a smart goal? Or maybe, something else? What is the relationship between work and happiness? Socialisation happiness? Physical health and happiness? What's the difference between contentment and happiness? Joy and happiness? Do we need to feel sadness to appreciate happiness? Do our genetics impact our capacity for happiness? Can we measure it? All these questions and more are explored in this conversation with Dr Tim Sharp. *Tim is an internationally renowned leader in the field of Positive Psychology, a sought-after Speaker and Facilitator, Consultant and Coach, Writer and Podcaster, Spokesperson and Brand Ambassador. He also has three degrees in psychology (including a Ph.D.) and an impressive record as an academic, clinician and coach. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1323#1323 The Great Anti-Ageing Scam - Harps
There’s a lot of misinformation, marketing, deception, pseudoscience and less be honest, bullshit, when it comes to the (globally-huge) business of anti-ageing. This episode is me talking about that. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1322#1322 Is That An Alien At The Door? - Harps & Patrick
Patrick (our resident) geek is back and this time, we talk about schools which are banning mobile phones and seeing sociological and mental health benefits in their kids (not surprising), a possible supplement which might improve Alzheimer's, why phone scrolling on the crapper is potentially bad for your health, the gaslighting origin story (and what it actually is), a home security company that's offering a million dollars to anyone capturing an alien on film via their camera-equipped doorbells (pretty sure their money is safe), the gene-based eating plan (personalised nutrition) and lots more. S1 Ep 1321#1321 Your Cognitive Diet - Harps
Just like your body, your mind needs to be nourished. Fed. Stimulated. And consciously or not, for better or worse, we're always feeding it something. Sadly, many of are constantly filling our mind with crap. Cognitive junk food. Stuff that's bad for our mental health. Stuff that makes us more fearful, anxious and insecure. In this solo episode, I talk about the idea of consciously creating and implementing a cognitive diet, in order to make your mind a healthier 'place' to live. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1320#1320 What Is Your Body Telling You? - Lisa Tamati (PT2)
In this two-part episode, Lisa Tamati and I go super deep exploring the ins and outs of human health, human performance and human optimisation, through the lens of epigenetics, psychology, biofeedback and biohacking. S1 Ep 1318#1318 The Boy From Oz - Todd McKenney
This episode is a reboot of a chat I had with Todd a while back. What am I going to talk to the grumpy judge from Dancing with the Stars about? I wondered. The bloke who wrote and starred in The Boy from Oz? I wondered. The bloke who starred in 42nd Street, The Pirates of Penzance, Camelot, La Cage aux Folles, Singin' in the Rain, Priscilla Queen of the Desert (the musical) and Baz Luhrmann's film, Strictly Ballroom? Well, the answer is.. plenty. We spoke a lot and laughed a lot. He’s funny, real and loves dogs (big tick). Of course, he’s a talented, successful and well-known performer but more than that, Todd McKenney is a genuinely interesting bloke who’s done a sh*t-load, is a brilliant story-teller (no surprise), is great to chat with and I absolutely loved meeting him. Enjoy. toddmckenney.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1317#1317 I'm Starting A Cult - Harps & Tiff
Nah, not really. But sorta, kinda, maybe. I had a very clear and weird dream last night and that weirdness was the central theme for my discussion with Tiff. Before the weirdness happened, we spoke about the famous Australian Singer-Songwriter who's written a song about Tiff and is using her image on the front of his new album! We also chatted about, who I think could be the best all-round athletes (from a specific sport) in the world. Enjoy. And get your kaftan ready.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1316#1316 The Bogan & The Snow Bunny - Steph Prem

S1 Ep 1315#1315 Toxic At Work - David Gillespie
Our resident Lawyer, Researcher, Author, Entrepreneur and Shit-Stirrer David Gillespie is back, and this time we talk about his new book 'Toxic at Work', the healthiest chips at the supermarket (I use the term 'healthiest' quite loosely), how to be a nutritional detective (and figure out exactly what's in food products), and we also compare notes with our respective public speaking experiences. Enjoy. davidgillespie.orgSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1314#1314 Health Span - Harps
In this twenty-minute solo episode (mini workshop), I explore one simple question... how do I keep myself ‘working' (physically, mentally, emotionally, cognitively, behaviourally) as well as I can, for as long as I can?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1313#1313 What's Your Health Type? - Dr. Cam McDonald
this fascinating chat with Dr. Cam McDonald, we explore the six different health types used to categorise people within the Ph360 model; a classification and education model based on personal biology and epigenetics. Get to know the Activator, Connector, Guardian, Diplomat, Sensor and Crusader and see which type you are. Enjoy. 🙂See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1312#1312 Escaping Thought - John Purkiss
Can we really 'not think'? Can we really turn our over-thinking chaos into a cognitive oasis of calm and bliss? And can we really turn the internal volume down to zero? In this interesting chat with John Purkiss, we explore these questions and more. John is the author of 'The Power of Letting Go', a Cambridge educated academic, a spiritual seeker and teacher and just like you and me, a perpetual work in progress. S1 Ep 1311#1311 Self-Care - Dr. Hannah Korrel
In the penultimate episode of our Brain Series with our favourite Neuropsychologist Doctor Hannah, we explore the relationship between self-care and 'a smarter you. Enjoy. @nobullpsychSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1310#1310 Trying To Change People - Harps
In this brief solo episode, I discuss the (bad) idea of trying to change people. Good intentions don't always equal good outcomes, especially when the person you're trying to change hasn't sought your advice, feedback, input or help. In fact, in many cases, trying to coerce (guilt, threaten, leverage) a person to change will create more disconnection than connection, and more resentment than compliance. I've encouraged, supported and educated lots of people, but l've never changed anyone. If they did change for the better, they did the work, not me.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1309#1309 Winners Are Grinners - Jacqui Louder
Jacqui Louder is the Sport Psychologist for the Collingwood Football Club (the most loved and hated team in the land) and as most of you know, her team recently won the AFL Grand Final. Well, we sat down and spoke about the multitude of variables (physical, mental, emotional, practical, organisational) that contribute towards winning the ultimate prize. And yes, we cover much more than just footy, sport and Collingwood. Enjoy. performe.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1308#1308 Artificial Intimacy - Rob Brooks
I hope my mum doesn't listen to this episode. Like, reaaaally, hope. Wait till you discover what tellydildonics are. And why people are 'marrying' robots. And how someone is Perth can use technology to give someone in Sydney (or New York) an orgasm. Again, don't listen Mary. Or Ron. People have long told machines what to do by pushing buttons. Now, with advances in technology, machines are pushing our buttons. In 'Artificial Intimacy' (my guest's book), evolutionary biologist Rob Brooks takes us from the origins of human behaviour to the latest in artificially intelligent technologies, providing a fresh and original view of the very near future of human relationships. Sex dollbots, digital lovers, virtual friends and algorithmic matchmakers help us manage our feelings in a world of cognitive overload. Apps can sense when users are falling in love, when they are fighting, and when they are likely to break up. These machines, the 'artificial intimacies', already learn how to exploit human social needs. And they are getting better and faster at what they do. So how will humanity's future unfold as our ancient, evolved minds and old-fashioned cultures collide with twenty-first-century technology? robbrooks.net@Brooks_RobSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1307#1307 All Kinds Of Orgasms - Beau Lotto
I fu*king love Professor Beau Lotto. He's the least academic-y academic I know. He has an amazing ability to explain and explore - what can be - complicated stuff in an uncomplicated way. Among other things, we talk about destination disappointment (why achieving goals rarely equals satisfaction), the relationship between contentment and ambition, why we're addicted to certainty and why that's a problem (the certainty trap), the life of a scientific vagabond (him), why his company is called the Lab of Misfits, the idea of the world being a laboratory (taking research out of the lab), recognising and owning our bias, and lots more. Enjoy. **Bio: Dr. Beau Lotto is a neuroscientist and world-renowned expert in perception. His research explores the ways in which we experience the world through our own versions of reality. Beau is a three-time main stage TED speaker. He has spoken at the G8, Google's Zeitgest, Wired, Oslo Freedom Forum, Big Think and contributed to the BBC, National Geographic, Netflix and PBS. Beau is also the founder of the world's first neuro-design studio, Lab of Misfits. S1 Ep 1306#1306 Respect - Harps
In 1,300 episodes, we’ve never had a conversation about respect. Not sure why, because it’s something we all want and value (nobody wants to be disrespected). I want it. So do you. But what are the variables, factors and determinants? Well, here are my thoughts on the thing we all want. EnjoySee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1305#1305 Nothing Wrong With Being Wrong - Mark LeBusque

S1 Ep 1304#1304 The E-Myth - Michael Gerber
A full circle moment for me... The E-Myth was the first business book I ever read and it taught me about the concept of working 'on' my business and not just 'in' it. For me, it was enlightening, inspiring and transformational. And all these years later, I had the pleasure of chatting with the man who inspired me, Michael Gerber. I seriously love my job. S1 Ep 1303#1303 Lane 4 - Bronte Campbell
Apart from being a three-time Olympian, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, five-time World Championship Gold Medalist and five-time Commonwealth Games Gold medalist, Bronte Campbell is also a funny, interesting, intelligent, highly-focused and kind-of philosophical. That was my take anyway. This was an interesting chat with a super-athlete who, at times in her career, has been better than everyone in the world, except her sister. S1 Ep 1302#1302 Thank God It's Monday - Harps
I'm fascinated with the type of relationship people have with their jobs. For some people, it's something to be tolerated, survived and endured until the weekend. Or worse, retirement. For others, it's associated with more positive things like growth, learning, skill development, fun, connection, creativity and satisfaction. As a bloke who hasn't had a 'job' for thirty-four years, I f**king love my work but I'm saddened when I talk to people who seem to spend decades waiting for weekends and holidays, to experience joy. What if we got excited about Mondays?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1298#1298 Life After Gambling - Kate Seselja

S1 Ep 1296#1296 Understanding Value - Michael McQueen
Sometime I chat with someone and, despite the fact that we've never met, there's an immediate connection, the conversation just happens organically and I feel like I'm hanging out with someone I've known for years. This episode is exactly that. Michael and I covered a lot of interesting territory in the space of business development, the journey to professional speaking, creating and providing value, the psychology of spending, being broadly relevant, the illusion of objectivity and lots more. *BIO: Michael McQueen is a multi-award winning speaker, trend forecaster and bestselling author of ten books. S1 Ep 1294#1294 Dadding - Pete Shepherd
Super-Coach and new dad, Pete Shepherd is back and not surprisingly, we talk about parenting (what the f**k would I know?), sleep deprivation, the unexpected health benefits of being a parent (for Pete), the parenting equation for letting kids solve problems and experiencing (some) adversity vs. protecting them from the 'big nasty' world, dreading Monday mornings (work), upgrading our brain, the importance of new and diverse experiences, the futility of people-pleasing and trying to keep everyone happy, when things in our life (job, relationships, habits, etc.) have reached their 'use-by' date, the importance of curiosity and lots more. S1 Ep 1292#1292 Doing What Doesn't Work - Geoff Jowett
In this episode of TYP, Geoff Jowett and I talk about the propensity we humans have to keep doing what doesn't work (despite the overwhelming evidence), Geoff's new and improved approach to business and work, creating opportunities (versus hoping they come along), being solution-focused (while acknowledging the problem), the chasm between knowing and doing (theory, application), recognising (and meeting) a gap in the market and as always, there's a liberal smattering of 'Geoff-isms'. S1 Ep 1291#1291 Life Doesn't Care About Your Feelings - Carly Taylor
In this episode, Carly Taylor and I talk about getting better with age, being a conscious creator rather than an unconscious passenger (in our lives), staying calm and composed in the sh*t storm, the pressure on teenagers and young adults to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives, value-driven choices and actions, where identity comes from, what we waste energy on, the power of focus, proactive versus reactive living and lots more. S1 Ep 1290#1290 Fight For The Forgotten - Justin Wren
In seven years of podcasting and twenty years of radio, this conversation is in my all-time top ten. Justin Wren is a both a cage fighter and freedom fighter, who has fought on the world-stage in the UFC and in the jungles of the Congo, championing the cause of one of the most marginalised groups of people in thew world; the Mbuti Pygmies. Justin's personal story (as an elite athlete battling all kinds of problems) and the story of his mission and purpose to liberate, empower and love the Mbuti, is both inspiring and confronting. Enjoy. *Warning: parts of this conversation might be confronting for some.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1289#1289 Disordered Eating & Eating Disorders - Harps & Tiff
This is a somewhat-unscientific but interesting and broadly-relevant freestyle chat between Tiff and I exploring the psychology, sociology, physiology and emotion-ology (not a word - lol) of self-destructive eating. As someone who has worked with hundreds of people with eating disorders and (potentially) thousands of people with disordered eating, this topic is something l'm very familiar with. And, as many of you know, l've spent much of my life managing my own not-insignificant eating issues. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

S1 Ep 1288#1288 The Adrenaline Junkie - Sam Tait
Sam Tait is a self-confessed adrenaline junkie who broke his back (T11 vertebrae) riding his motorbike at twenty-two, leaving him a paraplegic. Naturally, he went from there to racing (as a sit-skier) down mountains at terrifying speeds all over the world. Sam is a combination of craziness (the good kind), inspiration, wisdom and fun. S1 Ep 1287#1287 The Downhill Slide - Dr Lila Landowski
According to multi-award winning neuroscientist, researcher, speaker and University of Tasmania lecturer Dr Lila Landowski, after twenty-five our capacity for learning, typically falls of a cliff. That's the bad news. The good news is, we don't need to be typical and effective learning is still possible as we age (and the fifty-nine year-old PhD student breathes a sigh of relief). This is a chat about avoiding the slide, optimising our physical and mental health and lots more. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
